my team is getting CAAD9's on the cheap. what do we think about these stiffer than stiff aluminum frames?

cutty, Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:32 (sixteen years ago)

Never ridden but yuh there's the crack and fail rep

wilter, Friday, 9 January 2009 01:35 (sixteen years ago)

wilter, Friday, 9 January 2009 01:36 (sixteen years ago)

I have heard that these are the al frames that some people love so much they'll never think of going to carbon. I know nothing about them other than hearsay, though.

Mark C, Friday, 9 January 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

That's a nice looking machine.

wilter, Saturday, 10 January 2009 00:58 (sixteen years ago)

carbon seatposts are a good idea with those beasts. i'm not a huge cannondale fan, but they are nice bikes.

Always used to like working on them because they were always excellent, well-put together machines.

Pashmina, Saturday, 10 January 2009 14:53 (sixteen years ago)

id rather have a reliable mass prod frame for a team bike compared to some of the custom runs ive got and/or seen from smaller local builders. on year myself and two teammates had pipe clamps holding our driveside chainstays together for a few races ("oh, we forgot to heat treat that batch properly"). and some had just shitty prep.

On the other hand, i have kept the sandvik built dean ti that i got like 10 years ago because it is a pure joy to ride, tho not lite at 3.2 lbs. the bummer is that it has a 1" steerer and i dont know if i can source another 320g carbon fork for it. the current fork is old and im nervous.

wilter, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 01:55 (sixteen years ago)

cutty, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

Booker van Permalink (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:08 (sixteen years ago)

Ullrich dogged his teams' wheel sponsers to use them iirc

wilter, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

not unusual to dog sponsors that way rly

Booker van Permalink (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:15 (sixteen years ago)

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:37 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, tho there is a lol "FIXIE" wheelset listed on LW's website that pictures a classy looking track/street bike w/one brake hood 8[ and kitted out with a LW wheelset

i think i would actually kill a person that puttered around town on something like that

i like to fart and i am crazy (gbx), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:39 (sixteen years ago)

for the hipster who has everything... the surprising release from carbonsports comes last. many cyclists build or buy themselves a fixed gear bike to lighten the load, simplify pedalling life and lower the cost (unless you bought one of those mercian/paul smith fixed wheelers). yes indeed, carbonsports have provided the ultimate fixed accessory - the lightweight 'fixie' with a tubular rim. bearing in mind my total incompetence on a fixed wheel, the hub on the lightweight fixie will only accept a single speed freewheel (i know - like me you're wondering why it's called a fixie).

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:45 (sixteen years ago)

wait what that is hilarious

i like to fart and i am crazy (gbx), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 02:46 (sixteen years ago)

best thing about lw is that they don't do pro deals to anyone anywhere. jan had to buy them for $6000 just like everyone else.

#NAME? (ytth), Thursday, 15 January 2009 02:02 (sixteen years ago)

Riders such as Mario Cipollini, Paolo Bettini and even Lance Armstrong have reportedly had to buy their Lightweights out of either the team or personal budget. Apparently a set of rainbow stripes (or a few yellow jerseys) doesn't buy much in Germany. In addition, virtually every one of those riders has to add a specific clause in their contracts allowing them to use Lightweights in competition and Bettini was even supposedly fined a whopping US$40,000 or so for using them in the Italian national championships one year.
