ALPINE TOUR DE SUBURBS (a famous local rides thread)

ok so i have uncovered the existence of a training ride on thursday nights (yes it is really known as the 'alpine tour de suburbs', haw) that gets up to 80 people in good weather, with full-on sprint and mountain points awarded among the serious dudes!

course map + gradients

i used to live out doncaster way when i was a kid, that real sharp climb up williamsons + serpells rds is one of the most disgusting savages imo. i am quite enjoying being on the new bike at the mo so i'm considering having a crack at this once i whip myself into shape a bit more.

anybody else know of large-scale rides in their area like this?

When I was on the gold coast, used to ride in the 'cr4zy bunch'. which iirc was mon, wed, fri mornings 6am, super quick from burleigh through Surfers' to the Spit and back. all on the flat one sprint each end. Lots of crashes. would prob not ride again.

there's something like that on the regular down here at beach road along the bay, which is flat as - relaxed medium speed on the way out, but they really go for it on the run back towards the city. thinking maybe the hillclimb parts of the tds might break up the mentalism a bit?? definitely not so interested in going down amongst a big pack.
