Minoura Bike Tower

I've got a hybrid bike which I use for commuting in the week and longer rides and the occasional bit of off-roading at the weekends. We live in a first floor flat with really steep stairs, so I keep the bike in the narrow hallway by our door. We've got a baby on the way and we're going to have to use the hallway to store a pram/pushchair. There's nowhere outside that I can safely keep my bike and there's nowhere else in the flat where it could go, so I'm trying to figure out a cunning storage plan.

Neither of these walls are suitable for screwing things into, so I need some kind of free-standing thing. I've find this Minoura Bike Tower, which seems like it could work. Basically, there's a spring loaded stand which would go from the floor to the ceiling, and a couple of 'cradles' for bikes. I'm hoping I could stick my bike on the top one and that would leave space underneath for a pram.

Has anyone ever tried this product? Does my plan seem practical or hopelessly misguided? Is there a better alternative?

Is there enough height to do this:

Screwed into the ceiling joists.

There's enough height, but I'm not convinced it would be worth the hassle. Plus, when you strip away the wallpaper our (more than a hundred years old) walls are pretty crumbly, so I don't really want to screw anything into anything if possible.

minoura bike tower = WANT! we have 2 bikes (one with v wide and unmanouevreabe handlebars) and sometimes a pushchair living in our short and narrow entry corridor and it is a pain in the bum.

but £100?? sorry, fuck off.

That's not what I was hoping to hear. Do you think the Minoura Gravity Stand would be more stable or less stable? And would the legs just get in the way of the pram, thus defeating the whole object?

three months pass...

I went ahead and bought one and I've been using it for about a month without any problems (in case anyone was wondering):
