David Zabriskie (born January 12, 1979 in Salt Lake City) is a professional road bicycle racer from the United States who rides for Team Slipstream.[2] His main strength is individual time trials and his career highlights include stage wins in all three Grand Tour stage races, as well as the US National Time Trial Championship. Zabriskie is known for his quirky nature, including singing before stages and the interviews he does with fellow riders in the professional peloton which are posted on his homepage.

David Zabriskie (DZ) has conducted a number of flash-interviews in the peloton with various riders, displaying them on his website. They usually go down like the following interview of Alessandro Petacchi (AP):
DZ: Could I ask you a question?
AP: Yes.
DZ: Do you like Star Wars?
AP: Star Wars?
DZ: The movies.
AP: Yes.
DZ: Thank you.

When Cyclingnews asked David Zabriskie before Stage 9 in Firenze how it felt to enter the cycling stats as the third American in cycling history along with Andy Hampsten and Tyler Hamilton to win a Giro d'Italia time trial, he smiled and said: "rock and roll, dude" - yet another example of his unique sense of humor, provoking plenty of laughter from his CSC team-mate Christian Vandevelde.

Hey Evan, who's that guy with the beard you're hugging?

Laurel, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 02:03 (sixteen years ago) link

good one

evan looks like LEVI? hee hee

cutty, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 14:29 (sixteen years ago) link

im a levi fan. master of his ego, i think hes been sorta dissed repeatedly by his ds's, worst by gerolsteiner. the fact that hes limited by his riding style (yugo like accellerations) makes me appreciate him even more. watching him and evans go at it on a col is pretty boring tho.

so even tho this z's appreciation thred, just sayin-

bonus: odessa

Zabriskie
"Early on in my career when I was on USPS I was dropped at some race in Spain with the entire Euskatel team and they continued to pull at a fast pace and I was annoyed so I started yelling rapido it was more of a taunt than a joke. Well one of the guys came back and grabbed me by the jersey and we stopped and I thought he was going to beat me up but he didn't. Now I am friendly with that team and don't have to worry about the ETA anymore. I actually wouldn't mind being the first foreigner to be hired by that team, now that would be funny me hanging out with bunch of Basque guys. "

Bradley Wiggins: Oh, yeah, we laughed ourselves into hysterics, with Christian (Vande Velde) and Dave (Millar) and DZ Nuts (Dave Zabriskie). It was such a pleasure being with all those guys.

Dave Zabriskie, Team Garmin-Slipstream

How will race strategy change without race radios - if at all?
Oh it's gonna be off the chain.

Do you agree with the ban?
Of course I do, it's gonna be off the chain.

Will some teams be more affected than others?
Maybe teams that don't know how to make decisions when things are going off the chain.

Do you think races will be less safe without radios?
I think they will be safer actually. Less stressful energy going around the bunch.

What's the strangest exchange you've ever had on the race radio?
I had grabbed a handful of purple condoms on the street from some group that was handing them out when I lived in Berkeley. I put those purple condoms in my rain bag. During my first Vuelta it began to rain and Johan is on the radio talking to everybody so and so wants this and that. I was like give me a jacket or something. Maybe a minute passed and Johan came on the radio and said real slow, Dave, why do you have condoms in your rain bag? I'm not sure how responded at that time, probably just said something like, well just in case or it is a rain bag...

schmalz Yeah, you get the protractor types with Dave.

Millar Yeah, he loves it as well.

He's kind of cerebral and ironic.
