335 miles in two days?

Adrian Chiles and Alan Shearer (TV presenter and ex-footballer), neither known for their cycling powers, are setting off this morning on a two-day charity bike ride from Newcastle, over the Penines, to WBA's ground, then off to London, about 170 miles each day.

Am I alone in thinking they won't even be able to finish the first day?

I mean, the most I've ever ridden in a day is about 90 miles. The idea of doing another 80 on top of that just seems insane. Even if I was physically capable of it (which is doubtful), I think it would take me about 18 hours. And then to do it the next day? I think they've made a big mistake.

Alan Shearer should be pretty fit. Adrian Chiles otoh... (clicks link)... wow he's lost a lot of weight.

Apparently they finished the first leg at half past midnight, got four hours sleep, then set off again.

They made it! There's hope for us all.
