King Boy Pato reviews the Australian Fast Food chains because as an insomniac, he can't sleep just yet

Here we go:

McDonalds
As with all Macca's in the world: only when drunk. When I'm drunk, I can fully go a Quarter Pounder with full on grease. Any other time, no, even if I like their Hash Browns at Breakfast.

Hungry Jack's
Not bad for now and again. I'm really there to taste the kerosene on the burgers (if I wanted a grilled taste, I'd put them on my mate's BBQ). And the onion rings, hell yeah.

KFC
Australian KFC, unlike any other KFC in the world, is actually edible. Possibly because of the onion salt. Love the nuggets but I don't go there too often because it is overpriced as buggery. Still, nice to see the bogans and the azn students mixing.

Red Rooster
Massively underrated. Some of their stuff almost feels healthy (it ain't). A++++ so underrated guyz. Nuggets are ace and so are the burgers (amazing for a chicken chain). The rolls are lame but that's because I don't eat mayo alright.

Nando's
You know what it is and it is ace. Best chips by far (but I prefer the Red Rooster salt).

Oporto
MOST OVERRATED FAST FOOD CHAIN IN THE HISTORY OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION. Lame chicken burgers + average chips = no way get fucked fuck off. Only cretins like this, and there are plenty of 'em.

Domino's Pizza
Not in a million years, son. Not in a million years. I'm taking them up with the Advertising Standards Board because you can't call that shite as "pizza".

Pizza Hut
Adequate. Won't make a Pato Special on the cheap but will do in an emergency.

For what it's worth, I'd go to Australia Pizza House or Marcellina's but that's Adelaide-only I'm afraid. Former won't do a Pato Special but is cheap and quite good. Latter is pricey but is number one and the best and will do a kick ass Pato Special.

Wendy's
They have to use some special sauce with the hot dogs. They must. That isn't tomato sauce, it is...something more glorious than that. Would be great if they just sold the sauce without the hot dog (Adelaide Myer Centre excepted as they actually make nice hot dogs).

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 12 June 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)

Wendy's serves hot dogs in Australia?

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:03 (seventeen years ago)

what is a ... "pato special"?

n/a, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

this thread really raises more questions than it answers

n/a, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

Wendy's serves hot dogs in Australia?

Australian Wendy's is totally unaffiliated with and very much unlike American Wendy's. It's more like Dairy Queen really.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:21 (seventeen years ago)

Isn't it like 4 in the morning there right now?

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

1am, and I am *finally* tired enough to attempt sleep.

what is a ... "pato special"?

Ham + Pineapple + Mushroom + Capsicum + Olives = Pato Special

Does Adelaide still have "Fasta Pasta"?

dan m, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

Australia had American Wendy's for a while. The two co-existed, I think.

Hungry Jack's is what you get if you chuck Burger King through two decades of legal wrangling.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 12 June 2008 21:30 (seventeen years ago)

I think there's a fasta pasta on the gold coast maybe.

Also i will rep for the expensive but amazing Grill'd Burgers as discussed in mongrel thread.

wilter, Thursday, 12 June 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

Does Adelaide still have "Fasta Pasta"?

Of course it does. Doesn't everywhere have a Fasta Pasta?

Because there just has to be a shitty place where you can get microwaved pasta somewhere.

King Boy Pato, Friday, 13 June 2008 05:15 (seventeen years ago)

Some facts:

Nandos is fucking shite
Grill'd is overrated
Pineapple on pizza is a gross Queensland affliction

Pato do you know about HJ's two for one?

S-, Friday, 13 June 2008 05:19 (seventeen years ago)

Pato, a coworker and I have a special similar to yours, but simpler. It's just pepperoni with jalapenos and pineapple, but swine + hot pepper + pineapple seems close enough.

El Tomboto, Friday, 13 June 2008 05:30 (seventeen years ago)

I like Oporto, but it's ridiculously overpriced. Nando's is shite - it's even MORE stingy and expensive.

I am yet to try Grill'd - is there one in Sydney? Am I a thicko for asking this?

Australia Pizza House is BEST EVAH.

edwardo, Friday, 13 June 2008 05:39 (seventeen years ago)

Hanaichi is taking over Brisbane
cheap take-away Japanese curries etc. It's pretty fucking awesome actually.

wilter, Friday, 13 June 2008 05:48 (seventeen years ago)

I have some hygiene reservations tho

wilter, Friday, 13 June 2008 05:49 (seventeen years ago)

Fasta Pasta had just opened when I was in Adelaide. It was the trendy place to bug the shit out of your parents take you there.

dan m, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:18 (seventeen years ago)

Also I remember being surprised at how Hungry Jack's managed to be worse than Burger King yet still retained their sign stylez.

dan m, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

Pato do you ever go to this place:

http://www.myspace.com/labohemebar

Apparently one of my "mates" from my year 9 class works there.

dan m, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

(it probably sucks)

dan m, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I've been there and it does suck.

King Boy Pato, Saturday, 14 June 2008 02:12 (seventeen years ago)

OH THANK GOD THE McAMERICA BAGEL IS HERE

King Boy Pato, Saturday, 14 June 2008 07:25 (seventeen years ago)

WAHT

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 14 June 2008 08:03 (seventeen years ago)

IT'S A BREAKFAST BAGEL WITH BACON AND EGGS AND SAUCE ALL FOR BREAKFAST

If it had maple syrup as well, I'd truly feel like I was back in the US of A.

King Boy Pato, Saturday, 14 June 2008 08:07 (seventeen years ago)

Hungry Jack's, thankfully, is giving us a more Australian option for breakfast: STEAK, EGGS, BACON WITH SAUCE IN A WRAP

King Boy Pato, Saturday, 14 June 2008 08:13 (seventeen years ago)

NO WAY IS IT CALLED THE McAMERICA BAGEL

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 14 June 2008 08:35 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.theage.com.au/national/australia-wins-world-heavyweight-title-20080619-2tfo.html

Australia is officially the heavyweight champion of the world, according to new figures showing the nation has a greater proportion of obese citizens than the United States.

The latest comprehensive obesity study has shown that 26% of adult Australians - almost four million - are now obese, one million more than the last calculation in 1999.

The findings give Australia top spot as the world's most overweight nation, ahead of the notoriously super-sized Americans, who have a 25% obesity rate.

Oporto
MOST OVERRATED FAST FOOD CHAIN IN THE HISTORY OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION. Lame chicken burgers + average chips = no way get fucked fuck off. Only cretins like this, and there are plenty of 'em.

this is truth. id say the same about nandos though.

sunny successor, Monday, 30 June 2008 02:56 (seventeen years ago)

yeah nandos is suck and i think red rooter is pretty awful - the last time i bought a roast chicken from RR it was literally the soggiest, greasiest chicken i have ever considered not eating in my life

electricsound, Monday, 30 June 2008 02:58 (seventeen years ago)

rooter reminds me of cronulla beach and thats crime enough

sunny successor, Monday, 30 June 2008 03:00 (seventeen years ago)

nandos is way better than any other chookchain, you get actual (non-greasy!) chicken, real cabbage in yr coleslaw, CORN as a side option.

have eaten red rooter once in the last twenty years, it was the closest thing on that side of the road when returning a rented van after moving house.

energy flash gordon, Monday, 30 June 2008 08:46 (seventeen years ago)

yeah its been a good 15 yrs for me but i seem to remember liking their fries maybe? i remember something was good there and it wasnt the chicken.

fyi: KFC also sell corn which is great and only their third best thing. im not sure cabbage is a motivator for me when it comes to fast food.

sunny successor, Monday, 30 June 2008 13:16 (seventeen years ago)

Is defo the chips, mostly dude to the salt. AND they sell corn too.

King Boy Pato, Monday, 30 June 2008 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

oo...and i just remembered they sell grilled pineapple slices. banana too?

sunny successor, Monday, 30 June 2008 13:52 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah but I'd rather have a proper pineapple fritter. And a potato fritter!

King Boy Pato, Monday, 30 June 2008 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

kumara fritter

I haven't seen corn in a KFC since the 80s!

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 03:09 (seventeen years ago)

REALLY??

sunny successor, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 15:03 (seventeen years ago)

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 15:18 (seventeen years ago)

Glarb.

energy flash gordon, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 06:06 (seventeen years ago)

it looks so patriotic!

sunny successor, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:05 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

Fucking hell, there is way too many Oporto's in Sydney. Like, one on every corner. And I haven't seen a Wendy's anywhere! Fuck dis.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 7 August 2008 13:48 (seventeen years ago)

Wendys all hide inside malls.
