Nope.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I have Shania's shirt!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I am neither punk nor rock.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 14 April 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Sheena is.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 April 2003 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, but then middle school ended.

hstencil, Monday, 14 April 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

No, punk rock hasn't been invented yet.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 14 April 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I'm way punk.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 14 April 2003 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Mohawks are a state of mind.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 14 April 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have a mohawk but I have a punk soul. Do I get some sort of prize?

By the way, slutsky, I'd always assumed you were female (please excuse me if you really are female and I mistook you for male on the pix page and you didn't intend to look so masculine).

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in Sep Ultra

jel -- (jel), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a mowhawk in '84 I think. I'm way more punk rock now, though.

Sean (Sean), Monday, 14 April 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I own a Marillion album, so that's me disqualified then.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I was sort of a punk back in 76-77. Never did anything with my hair, but I wore some of the clothes and went to loads of the gigs. I was 17 when punk started. I guess this is as remote to some of you as rock 'n' roll is to me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 14 April 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way, slutsky, I'd always assumed you were female

Let me clear it up right now then, I'm a dude. And my handle here is actually my last name.

the slutsky away from his home & password, Monday, 14 April 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw someone with a mohawk serving in IKEA on Sunday. Haha, pretty fukin' PUNK, eh? (he was dead helpful actually) Alex, which marillion album 'ave yer got? I bought a bunch cheap on cd in a used rekkid store. Um, they haven't got fish singing on them....some of them sound a bit like Talk Talk, strangely enough.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I have Script for a Jester's Tear.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to have that one, and "fugazi" as well, years ago. Obv, I'm pretty pro-prog, but when I sometimes feel the urge to buy them again, I get all nervous & a little embarrased! How does it hold up? I sort-of remember it being a little thin-sounding.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was a freshman in high school, a bunch of people referred to me and my small gaggle of friends as "happy punks". I played a show once where it said over the door on the way in "PUNK ROCK SHOW". So, um, yeah?

[inner monologue: "that's not a very punk answer dumbass"]

FUCKIN RIGHT PUNKINFUCKINAY MATE!!!!

[inner monologue: "a little better"]

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I am! Grrr! This is my happening and it freaks me out!

http://southsidecallbox.com/images/teen.jpg

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I never owned Fugazi. I think I picked up Script... after seeing them open disastrously for Rush (and get virtually booed offstage). There is something decidedly masturbatory about their schtick (although I have no idea what they sound like without Fish), but they had sort've a burly presence as well. I quite like the sprawling-if-needlessly-histrionic title track and "He Knows You Know." I think I toyed with picking up whichever album had "Incommunicado" on it (circa `87 or so), but never did. Never thought much of "Kayleigh" (their "big single"), though.

Getting back to this thread question, however, most of the kids in my high school who went out and bought the right hair-spray and gear knew precious fuckin' little about the actual music and cared more about the appearance, begging the question: "what makes a Punk Rocker?" If it was strictly tonsorial/sartorial, then no I definetely wasn't. If it meant identifying with the actual music, then sure I was. But, I was also fond of stoopid metal and the odd prog record, so whatever.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Jody makes me want to post that picture of me from when I was 15. FEAR MY FISHNETS AND ANGRY EXPRESSION.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Ya mean this one?

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/1657/harley152.jpg

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

(On the Marillion tangent -- my ex is a huuuge fanatical fan of them, particularly the post-Fish band. The new singer's Steve Hogarth, who sounds kind of like a plaintive Robbie Williams with a higher-pitched voice, and the band's become much more arty and emotive and concept-album-ish, with very little in common with the Fish era, catering heavily to their viciously loyal online fanclub. That said, though, even though I've been horrendously overexposed to the band, I think Script.. holds up pretty well.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i read an article in the grauniad the other week abt the mar1llion fan club doing an atp-style event at butlins with marillion playing like three times over the weekend but, and this was the wierd bit, there were NORMAL BUTLINS PUNTERS there too...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I read that as well. It was a but of a larf, I suppose, but the only such event I ever went to (a Hawkwind fan convention) was not a whole lot ov phun so I wouldn't fancy it much myself.
it just occurred to me, didn't one of marillion's earl;y 12"s have a painting of a guy made up like JAZ himself on it (really!!) I do remember that a lot of the early '80's prog revivalists - 12th night, pallas etc etc, before they got rekkid deals & became mulletheadz, went for the whole anarcho-grebo-combat gear look, and were virtually indistinguishable from yer average sub-crass anarcho punk band, apart fromthe gabriel-alike singer (drone drone i saw dagaband at sunderland old twenty-nine, here & now gigging w/atv etc etc etc all fall asleep)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

You're thinking of the 12" single of "Assassining," I believe....

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a couple of pairs of Doc Marten's.
And an old Black Flag T-shirt.
And can be quite surly, spitting invectives in a faux English accent.
And right beside my Carpenters records, I have a couple of Clash long players.
I am punk as fuck.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

DON'T MAKE ME POST PICTURES OF RUSSELL CROWE, KILLING JOKESTER.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool your boots, Ally, that's not a picture of Harley Quinn, it's a Marillion 12".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not talking about that one, you know. I'm talking about this one. Though this didn't need explaining, you just wanted me to post the picture again. You'll be sorry when I freak out and post the picture of me being scary and faux-punk. I was really hardcore, I looked like this:

One of the good things about my hair thinning is that I can actually make it into a mohawk in like two seconds. I'm totally punk now.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

now, where did I put my nail gun again?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

You said you didn't have a nail gun.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Literalist.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I guess so.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It would be more painful to actually get some nails and a hammer and hammer the nails into the person.

It seems like it would be more fun to use the nail gun though.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

One day, Antoine, I shall buy a great big pint of icy cold beer.....and make you wear it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright, here's a pic for Alex's delight. Now he can imagine they're being sent to Federal Pound-Me-In-The-Ass prison for various crimes against humanity (though note Joel's shout out to the Mozzer!).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear God!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice "Office Space" allusion.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Real Annapolis punks woulda stolen Good Charlotte's lunch money.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Sunday, 1 February 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

And then shoot them with a nail gun.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

though note Joel's shout out to the Mozzer!

As useful an influence on the band as that one dude in Limp Bizkit who claimed to like Dead Can Dance, I'm afraid.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 1 February 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Limp Bizkit who claimed to like Dead Can Dance,

I just felt a major tremor in The Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in pain.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I think good charlotte have a song called "bloody valentine", if I'm not mistaken.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know if they know that's a band or if they just heard the name and liked it. i don't know what the song sounds like, either.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Reason enough for them to be bludgeoned with a ball peen hammer, as far as I'm concerned

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 1 February 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"My Bloody Valentine" was also an 80's horror movie, too.

jazz odysseus, Sunday, 1 February 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I just got back from the hardware store.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 1 February 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you go to the one in the Haight?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 1 February 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Do we see being a punk now as any more rebellious and meaningful than, say, being a teddy boy in the early '80s?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 1 February 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

ask Dick Hebdige

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 1 February 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

In my review of GC for the Voice I say the song starts off like the best MBV song ever (there's this loud distorted guitar and qausi-violin trill deal at the beginning that implies at the very least that producer Eric Valentine knew of the band). The funny thing is in the original version I wrote that it starts off like the best MBV song ever, and then gets better.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

You're not at all well.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha I saw this question on the new answers page and thought "hey that's a great idea for a thread" and then I clicked on it and realized it was me who started it!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll admit I might like "When You Sleep," "What You Want" or "Feed Me With Your Kiss" more, in hindsight.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you go to the one in the Haight?

No.

Listen up all you punk motherfuckers, I don't give a fuck about answering your pointless questions, I'm writing you from a computer at a homeless shelter in Naples, Florida to tell you punk was never dead, I was just drunk and passed out in a gutter somewhere and now that I'm back, so's the old school gutterpunk sound and lifestyle. I was living on the streets fucked up by a combination of drugs, alcohol and Sid's ghost possessing me, but now that I'm sober and on a year supervised probation, I'm feeling pretty angry and shitty. So tell all your friends to listen up for my band, the SuicIdols, and to give me a shout out at smashreflex@yahoo.com and my guitarist Gravedigger, who I met in Jail for doing just that, at dirtypoot@yahoo.com. Keep the old school scene alive, you dirty bastards! See you on the streets, Smah

SuicIdols update: My band is almost ready to blow your fucking eardrums up, punks! Here's my current lineup, minus a drummer who we are still looking for, so if any of you play drums and live in the southwest Florida region, or know someone who is, write me at smashreflex@yahoo.com. VOCALS: Smash (Scott Gregory,) GUITAR: Gravedigger (Chris Chauncee,) and BASS: Danny "Millhouse" (formerley of Indianapolous' Splatter Punks.) Whether you know of a drummer, or just got something stupid to say, give me a shout at my site or Gravediggers at dirtypoot@yahoo.com. Sid's ghost has been possessing my wasted body and he's been screaming for me to bring about the New Punk Order so we're gonna raise the old street punk style from it's death place, MY ASS!!! Check out the new Casualties album, it's kicks fucking arse! See you bitches later.

FUCK! I'm jonesing for another fucking SucIdols update!

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have another throw-update as of yet, but you wanna hear some fucked up crazy shit? You'll all be able to claim to know our band before we broke into the scene, so me and the other members of the SuicIdols will throw in some stories from our past to keep all your puckered buttholes happy, so listen up! When I was in high school, up in my hometown of Port Angeles, Washington (where the band Ninety Pound Wuss came from, I was friends and went to school with the lead singer Jeff Bettger's little sister, Jennifer,) I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life but be a rockstar, and since that didn't seem very likely, I thought it would be cool to get paid to shoot guns and kill people, so I joined the Marines and became a Heavy Machinegunner in the Infantry. But before you all scream sell out, keep in mind that I started drinking heavy and partied alot, and even started a punk band and pissed off as many people as I could and was finally kicked out of the military after two years for not being able to conform to military standards. Anway knuckleheads, I was stationed in Sasebo, Japan and got really drunk at a bar I frequented. These people sell fucking fireworks yearround, and you can go to one of their shitty 7-11 imitation stores and buy bottlerockets and M-80's in the motherfuckin' candy isle, and so we did after one night of heavy drinking. After firing them off at eachother for a couple hours, and singing every Rancid, Casualties, Exploited and Total Chaos song we could think of, we headed back to base. Minutes later, my friends noticed I wasn't with them, and backtracked ten blocks, finally seeing me climbing up a fireescape to the roof of an eight story motel. They climbed up after me, and when they reached the top, I had broken a pipe off a stupid tv antennae, and threw it up on my shoulder like a rocket launcher and told them to load me up. And they did. Minutes later, at six o'clock, all the Japanese businessmen began their daily trek to their offices and I let em all have it! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! It was fucking hilarious seeing them all run for cover, screaming in terror like we were dropping another fucking Fat Man or Little Boy on their wannabe Samurai asses! Those supposed Ninja never saw that one coming! Or that one, or that one, or that one, or that one either. I spent sixteen hours in a dirty interrogation room, like you see in the movies, after a couple hour chase, but it was fucking worth it! Now that's punk, you wannabe's, and don't think I made that one up, it's the truth, and I've got better stories to fill your bored minds with, but I'll save them for later. See you on the streets! Smash. Over. Out.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 27 February 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

This Internet shit's pretty fucking great. I should have been fucking with it the last six or seven years instead of remaining oblivious to the rest of the world in a drunken, drugged up haze, jumping the rails from squat to squat across this fucked up big piece of land and recruiting other like-minded losers to join my many failed attemps to replace my patron saint of anarchy, the fallen dark angel St.Vicious, or have you Green Day punkers(?)not heard of the great Sex Pistols? They might have been formed like the Backside Boys and other faggot boy bands, but don't believe they weren't punk because those motherfuckers didn't have to play the part, the fire was burning inside those bastards. That's what punk is, that fire that drives us to be ourselves, and not give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks. Look what I've done, in the last week I learned how to use the Internet, found this site, threw in my thoughts, and since then my slowly forming band and I have been the only thing you cyberpunks have talked about. NOW THAT'S PUNK! To answer a previous statement, you don't have to be homeless like my sorry 26 year old ass to be a punk, but you do to be a gutterpunk, or at least be stowing away in an abandoned building somewhere, thus the word "gutter", and it takes a big pair of balls like I got to live like this. The Varukers and One Way System are pretty fucking awesome, as are Fear, Total Chaos, The Misfits, GBH, Nausea, Discharge, Rancid, Bad Religion, The Circle Jerks, The Cramps, The Clash, GG Allin, The Descendants, Black Flag and too many other punks to give props to here. Ever hear of any of my other bands, Burning Discharge or The Ex-Mexicans? Probably not. For all your information, those are just band names, I've never had an STD or was ever Mexican. Here's the part you've all been fucking drooling for, so I won't keep you all held back: SuicIdols Tidbit: Guitarist Chris Chauncee (a.k.a. Gravedigger,) was former vocalist and guitarist for the band Necrophiliacs! That's it for now. Feel free to stick my boot up your asses while you wait for my next interruption. Smash.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Being a "gutterpunk" is nothing to aspire to. Neither is being an ignorant xenophobe. Nor are either of these things representative of "Punk Rock". Stop proselytizing for a movement that was largely in its death throes the day you were born and that you clearly don't fully understand to begin with.

it takes a big pair of balls like I got to live like this.

Balls? That's a laugh. Being an irresponsible cop-out requires no balls at all. All you're doing is reinforcing a cartoony stereotype (and assuredly personifying the very antithesis of Punk Rock's initial do-it-yourself ehtos). Don't you listen to the lyrics of the bands you claim to admire? Apart from maybe FEAR and GG Allin, the bands you've cited espouse self-reliance and open mindedness (both of which being fundamentally polar to your words and actions). You're just another dumb jock in a Halloween costume. Use your head.

Naples Teens Charged In Brevard Grave Robbery
Printable version
E-mail this story to a friend

PALM BAY -- Two Naples teenagers are accused of stealing cremated remains and rosary beads from a Palm Bay cemetery.

Authorities say 18-year-old Tara Lea Forste and 17-year-old Christopher Dean Chauncey were arrested Monday night. They face felony counts of burglary, grand theft, disturbing the contents of a tomb and abuse of a human body.

The theft was discovered Sunday when a woman walked into a mausoleum at Fountainhead Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Palm Bay and discovered the facility had been vandalized. The cremated remains of a woman, a set of rosary beads and a gold ring were recovered Sunday when two witnesses came forward.

Police are investigating possible links to a grave robbery in Naples, in which two sets of rosary beads were reported stolen. (AP)

No I'm not a fucking comedian, I'm just sarcastic, and yeah, I am having fun at all your expenses. What else is there to do at a homeless shelter, sit around and watch all the fourty/fifty year old wet-brained has beens drool on themselves while telling war stories and dream about their pasts? Besides that, this is fucking great publicity. All you fuckers are spreading my legend and news of my new band without me having to do any work other than spit shit out to get a rise from you all! So don't think I'm not open minded, I've seen more of this shitty planet than most of you fucks have seen of your ritzy neighborhoods! I know a few gay people and get along with them fine, they just know not to try to get me involved or I'll clobber their backward brains! Check out my boy Gravedigger's past I believe he pasted it on his letter above. Go to punkrocknight.com and click on the videos icon and then on the Splatterpunx video and check out our bass player Danny and his band, he played guitar for them though. WE NEED A FUCKING DRUMMER! I've got record labels ready to sign the SuicIdols, just from hearing all our former bands and us telling them our past stories. C'mon you fuckheads! Well, I gotta help Gravedigger help his mom move, and then I'll be off to see what the Bayshore punks and skins are up to. Talk to you dingleberries later! Smash.

I don't know, now that I know that they live in Florida, I kind of feel sorry for them. I'm sure that their music and behavior is pretty "punk" by the standards of the shittiest state ever.

NA (Nick A.), Sunday, 29 February 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course, if they're homeless, they don't exactly have anything keeping them in Florida, so I guess they could move whenever they want, which means that since they are still in Florida, they are indeed fucking idiots.

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Sunday, 29 February 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I own every album (except for the re-package-as-new-releases) by the Ramones, Bad Brains, Black Flag, FEAR, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Minor Threat, and Devo.

I also make over half a C-note a year salary and wear slacks and a collared shirt every day to work in my job as a government contractor with a top secret security clearance.

Quite the oxymoron, huh? Or maybe just moron.

Also, I am trying to find a local Turbojuend chapter.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Sunday, 29 February 2004 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno if anyone hates Smash, Speedy! Hell I dont. I just think, if he's genuine (and hey he seems genuine to me), that its a bit much to claim True Punk is being dirt poor, stealing shit, being rude, vaguely homophobic, shouty and gung-ho about violence. Its all a bit Vyv or Alan Parker to me. It looks too much like a shtick. Punk ethos is great, but to harp on about being "street" just looks a bit daft I think :-/

And hey, I'm no punk. But I love Black Flag, Fugazi, the Clash, Suicidal Tendancies etc so hey I dunno.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 29 February 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Sub question for 100 extra points: what makes one punk? Whats the true punk ethos? Are you only 4 Real if you cut it into your arm? Can you draw from Daddy's paycheck and still be down with the kids?

< /momus>

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 29 February 2004 04:13 (twenty-one years ago)

To answer a few of your mindless ramblings...obviously I am not one of you because, like I said before, I am punk (and now you've convinced me that some of you aren't,) being punk is exactly what I'm doing right now, my own thing and not giving a fuck what anyone thinks, I'm just having fun using you all as a vehicle to my rise to fame, (you should see the news down here, me and my band are all over it, but don't be mad, I'll mention your names at the bottom of my first album's reckognition note, at the very bottom!) And what's wrong with being from the streets? I am and not ashamed of it. My parents were drunk and fucked up and living in a station wagon when my mother's water broke. I lived in that fucking rusting piece of crap until I was five or six and my parents brought my two younger brothers into this bird shit ball of rock. I was beyond white trash. My life story is so crazy, anytime I tell it to a therapist, they gotta go see therapists, and believe what you want, but I ain't fucking shitting you. I'm using this as a self promotional tool, but nothing I've said has been falsified, it's all fucking true. I was taken from my parents and put through fifty foster homes in two years (the equivelant of a different family every two weeks,) and my two brothers and I were put up for adoption when I was thirteen like slaves waiting on the auction block. Then I failed the Marine Corps after barely passing high school and the rest will soon be history. So hopefully some of you buggers can see where some of my narcistic opinions and hostility comes from. I don't understand what there is to rebel against if you come from a rich, or medium class family where you have everything handed to you and have absolutely nothing to worry about, or maybe some of you can SCHOOL my WHITE TRASH ass! None of you have been able to do that yet, and to top things off, I ain't going nowhere but to the top, I'm here to stay bitches. I'm going to bed now, I gotta leave the shelter early in the morning and raise some more hell out in the streets. I'll see you all in your dreams!

Smash, Sunday, 29 February 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

You're not "Punk". You're just an ignorant loser.

That's too harsh, I'm sorry Mr Smash.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Sunday, 29 February 2004 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The one time I got to hang with Long Gone John of Sympathy For The Record Industry, we ended with him quoting William Burroughs saying that "hey, I thought 'punk' meant someone in jail taking it up the ass".

What's up my herd of sheep? Not alot going on here at the shelter, just fighting tooth and nail for the last of the leftover, stale donuts donated from some local restaraunt. I'm surprised the pigs didn't smell 'em and ransack the joint. Any of you true ANARCHISTS? Wanna cause some mayhem? Start calling the shelter and asking for me, let's get the phone ringing off the hook! Call me at (239)774-2859. Where are all the fucking drummers at? I've got agents from record labels wanting to sign the SuicIdols, but we need a fucking drummer! They haven't heard our music yet, they're only wanting to sign us up because of all our previous bands and infamous histories, and I'm not talking about major labels, I'll never go that friggin' route! I'm not about the money, I'm about getting heard and telling everyone what I think about the various subjects brought to life in this shitty world. The closest to being signed by the majors I'll go is Hellcat and Epitaph, only because I'm a huge Rancid, Operation Ivy and Bad Religion fan. Actually, I'm pretty much a fan of all punk bands, though I mostly like the louder, harsher and more beligerant sounds of streetpunk. Well, I've got to go find some trouble to get in to, but call for Smash at that number above! Peace out sheep.

Smash, Sunday, 29 February 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Why does he want a sheep for a drummer? It seems like something like that could wreck the band.

kirsten (kirsten), Sunday, 29 February 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, Alex, what'sa your problem?

I'll admit my last post was pretty harsh, but it's whistleheads like Smash that helped slay Punk Rock in the first place.

Fatherhood has sure gotten to you Mr. Honour The Fire.

Fatherhood has nothing to do with it.

Back Off.

Why are you defending Smash?

Smash could be the next Iggy, or even Jaz.

How can you judge him?

Well, let's see. He brags about not having a job or any sense of personal responsibility, being thrown out of the army, he quite enjoys firing off the epithet "faggot" and zealously boasts about random acts of violent stupidity (also referring to the Japanese as "Samurai-wannabes" and alluding to the dropping of the Atom bomb on them) and continually proclaims to have done it all in the rather presumptiously assumed name of PUNK, something he clearly hasn't done a great deal of homework about. If he wants to go around acting like an idiot, that's fine, but don't assert that it has anything to do with Punk Rock, dammit. All in all, I find him pretty reprehensible, which is why I find it rather easy to judge him. More than likely, however, nine tenths of his screed is utter bullshit.

Have you heard his music? BTW, hows your band? Poseur.

Well, I can't imagine his music is anything to write home about. At best, it's probably ripe for an Exploited cover band. But, that's not really the point, is it. I'm not talking about his music or him being in a band. In those ventures, good luck to him, but it's his unwaivering adherence to the notion that Punk is nothing much than mindless idiocy that upsets me the most.

I never claimed to be a Punk nor singularly represent it with my actions, by the way.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 29 February 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Smash could be the next Iggy, or even Jaz.

Sounds more like he's like the next Kurt Cobain right now.

Not like he'll be famous. Just that he's having a drummer problem.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but, Smash, just use a damn drum machine and make an album with that, AND QUIT ASKING ABOUT A DRUMMER! If I had some drums, I might offer, but I don't and I care about going to school so I can't.

Or, just quit the band?

Totally punk!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 29 February 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess you CHICKENHEADS are punks after all, PRISON BITCHES that is, because YOU ALL SOUND LIKE YOU'RE TAKING IT IN THE ASS RIGHT NOW!!! AH HA!HA!HA!HA! FUCK OFF! You sound like a bunch of HENS! BOCK BOCK BOCK B'GAWK! C'mon and call that number, or are all of you a bunch of PUSSIES!? "OHHHH, I am a punk rocker, but I'm afraid to cause a little mischief, I'll get grounded if I even use the phrase "raise some Hell," because me and my family are a bunch of SHEEP! And what would I do without Daddy's credit card? I couldn't afford to go on line and purchase my COOL clothes at angry young and poor dot com (did I use proper English?), and if I didn't have those clothes I wouldn't be punk anymore. OHHHH...." Hey, are any of you chicks? 'Cause if you are, you could solve my band's drummer problem! Just bend over and stick your ass out and I'll spank it like a set of bongo's! And don't worry, I WILL BE FAMOUS! (I've been a local legend, down here and up in Washington!) One day, we'll all be able to kick back, slam a brew and laugh about this whole thing. Or at least I will. Well, I'm gonna go so you hens can gossip, graze on hay, take it in the ass or whatever you all do when I'm not around.:)

Punks do it for the music.

Fugazi never signed to a major record lable because they didn't want to become main stream.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 29 February 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I told you bitches because of all this me and my band are all over the news down here, but we were already legends each in our own right. So yeah, you all did help in my rise to fame. I just don't have a complete enough band to record an album yet, but our attitudes, not music, were what got all the record labels attentions. Some of you think being from New York makes you punk, is that how you get to be a punk, come from a large city? Not if you have to step out of Daddy's limo, and on to a red carpet so you don't spoil your Gucci's. No, I already know what it takes to be a punker. Everything I write about my past has been true, but the way I've been saying all this was to get a rise out of you all and so far it has worked like a fucking charm! I feel like the Vampire Lestat when he was a rockstar in the second book by the same name. I've got my own little following. One of the major points behind punk rock which I have learned traveling squat to squat is unity, which none of you have done or even mentioned yet. My biological parents are Scottish immigrants and were roadies for a couple small punk bands in England when the Clash, Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks were all forming and back then, the old school punk lifestyle, which is all I've been talking about rising from the dead, the bands were formed by people from the streets who brought up topics like unity, and the oppression of governments and police force, which caused alot of people to be on the streets for various reasons, and drugs and alcohol, and poverty, and saying "Damn the man!" and whoever else doesn't believe in what you're doing, though you do. It takes alot to rise from poverty, and living on the streets, which is where unity came in and still does. Punk rock ain't specifically about the music, but the lifestyle. The music is what put the fire back inside those people. Back then, you couldn't listen to a punk band unless you were old enough to enter a bar. Now I'm seeing ten, eleven year old kids running around calling themselves punk rockers like it was Halloween costume like was said in someone's comments above, which pisses me off because the way I grew up and was raised I feel calling myself a punk rocker is a BIRTH RIGHT. That's how long I've been involved in various scenes state and world wide. I was listening to the Exploited and Clash back when the other kids my age were reading books like SEE SPOT RUN. So, whatever happened to keeping an open mind? Because some of you who have been writing back to me since I stole your scene said that was the biggest point in punk, which I have never denied. Some of you though have bigger holes in your asses than the hole in my open mind. HA!HA!HA!HA! Suck on that egg! Oh yeah, who said my life is shitty? Not me. I chose my lifestyle. Having a TV to watched MTV and it's show PUNK'D don't make you a punk either. Well, that last sarcasm was kinda lame, but who gives a fuck? Do you? Don't trip in the mosh pit suckers. Later. Oi! to the East Naples Hooligans!

I have a shiny silver dollar here which sez that SMASH and Alex in NYC are the same guy. (I have no idea where Alex in NYC got the idea that "punks" weren't looking for fame/notoriety, but his completely dementia on the subject sort of precludes having a rational debate.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 1 March 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

but his completely dementia on the subject sort of precludes having a rational debate

Oh that's right, I'M the demented one.

It's not that the Punks didn't want to be recognized, it's that being "rockstars" was never what it was about (which Smash seems to miss).

Moreover, I only post as myself. There was a brief period when I posted under the name Motel Hell, but that's a long time ago. Beyond that I wouldn't bother wasting time posting as anyone else.

My wish is that Smash would temper his bluster with a little humilty, introspection and respect for that which he claims to represent. You like the outfit and the pose and the rhetoric, but try delving a bit deeper and LISTENING the messages. Let them guide your actions, instead of running around like its a license to be a pantsless asshole.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 March 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's not that the Punks didn't want to be recognized, it's that being "rockstars" was never what it was about"

See that hair at the end. Yeah, that one. It's split.

"Moreover, I only post as myself."

*coff coff* Good Charlotte.

Yawn, as for you acting as the guiding light for SMASH misguided PUNK life, what the hell (I mean you are accusing this dude of basically being immodest and you've taken it upon yourself what PUNK really was all about. Gosh the humility there is astounding.) Last I checked you were a middle-aged middle class married father of one editor/freelance journalist, right? Not exactly living outside the system are ya? Are you sure YOU were LISTENING to the messages?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 1 March 2004 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"Moreover, I only post as myself."

*coff coff* Good Charlotte.

Meaning?

To your second point, cite one instance in the entirely of ILM wherein I've claimed to be "punk" or a "punk rocker". I don't claim to be a punk, nor do I categorically make sweeping absolutes about it. But by the same token, I was at least cognizant when it was a going concern, and not just another shallow pose. I am a middle-aged, middle-class editor/freelance journalist (not yet a father of one, bu that's coming). Nor have I ever claimed to live oustide the system. That does not preclude me, however, from being informed. In the same way you'd all get your quills up if I started making statements like "REAL HIP HOP IS THIS AND REAL B-BOYS DO THAT, AND ONLY REAL HIP-HOP IS ABOUT THIS", I bristle as Smash's misinformed, misanthropic bullshit as being equated with Punk Rock. He does not speak for it. He does not embody it. He does not even understand it. I'm not saying I'm an authority on it, but it's dear enough to me for me to realize it's much more multifacetted than the narrow, cartoonish, idiotic way he portrays it.

Whatever punk is or isn't is not really up for you to define is it? (I mean that is sort of taking the AUTHORITY, ain't it?) Nor is it really up to SMASH either, but he's so cute in his "I SMASH, I PUNK, YOU POSER, I CRUSH" persona that I can't really take him too seriously. You on the other hand take yourself very seriously, so I'm just asking (cuz I know a little bit about the subject myself) what makes you so certain that his macho-minded crypto-anarchist reading of punk is less right than yours (God knows what yours is, fuck if I can figure it out from your posts, but apparently it involves LISTENING.) And let's at least try not to forget that at least he's living his reading of punk.

but he's so cute in his "I SMASH, I PUNK, YOU POSER, I CRUSH

You find it cute? I find it sickening.

You on the other hand take yourself very seriously

We've never met. That's a bit presumptious of you. But, there are things I do take seriously, and this is one of them.

what makes you so certain that his macho-minded crypto-anarchist reading of punk is less right than yours

Because he is speaking in ABSOLUTES, not allowing for other intepretations. He presents his interpretation as the only voice of authority (and he's only 26). THAT is what bothers me.

And let's at least try not to forget that at least he's living his reading of punk.

Or so he says. Moreover, is his reading of it something to be proud of?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 March 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do you not point that same accusation at Smash?

Hey fellas, what's up? You know what time it is: SuicIdols UPDATE! We've found a drummer! Woo-hoo! SUCK ON THEM EGGS! AH HA!HA!HA!HA! I don't know who he is yet, but Gravedigger called me an hour ago and told me a friend of ours talked to a friend of hers that plays drums and he said he liked our style and wanted to play for us. I will give you all a more detailed report tomorrow sometime after we meet him. Not like any of you seem to care, but who cares? I wouldn't be punk if I did! Sounds like this guy from New York's having a mid-life crisis, not even a PUNKER himself and trying to be DOWN with the homies and THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRLS. And I wasn't trying to get you all to call me so I had anyone to talk to, I just wanted to see if I could piss the people off who run this stinking joint by getting the phone to ring all day. Why, what do you Aristopunks do all day for fun, shine your shitkickers? (Those are boots for any of you not "DOWN" with the "SLANG".) By the way, I never said anything about clothes, or a pose, or rhetoric making me punk, that's what I was accusing everyone else of. That's what I was referring to when I accused everyone of being rich kids and having the money to buy the image. I live the lifestyle, you think I can even afford to buy cheap Wal-Mart clothes? I get my shit from Goodwill and the Salvation Army, golden boy! Everything else, like the band patches I safety pin all over me I gank or barter for. You try giving up a quart of Olde English when you haven't gotten messed up on anything and only have thirty five cents in your pocket for a GGAllin patch! Ohhh...I keep forgetting, Alex in NY ain't one of us! Why don't you go hang out with the gangsters at www.blingbling.com, I heard they're the SHIZNIT! I got a disposable camera and will take some pictures of me, my band, our friends and the local scene, and when we get them developed at Wal-Mart, will have them transferred to a disc so I can download them to you all. Well, it was fun fucking with you all, but I'm gonna crash. They kick us out of the shelter at eight o'clock in the morning, and we have to stay gone until three thirty, so if we don't have a job, we have to wander the streets. That's what I do best. And that phone number is for St.Matthews House, it's a pay phone on the lanai where everyone smokes. If you want proof this place exists, the address is 2001 Airport Rd., Naples, FL 34112. Lookit up. It would probably be faster for you to E-mail me than write though, HA!HA!HA!HA! SNARF!

Because he's a joke (I think I already said that.) Are you?

I don't think he sees himself as a joke. Maybe I'm being the gullible one, but I don't actually think he's a wind-up, so maybe the joke's on me.

In any event, go piss up a rope, Alex.

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 1 March 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex in NYC, you are a truely educated and respected member of this group. I most sincerely don't want to make an online enemy of you. But, this time, you are wrong. Alex in SF may have pissed you off, but he is still OTM. Smash is as punk as it gets. Sure, he is crass, offensive, etc... And some of what he says irritates the fuck out of me, BUT THAT IS WHY HE IS SAYING IT! Go back and watch the Sex Pistols on the BBC for an early example of the same behaviour. Read No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs. Just because someone is yanking chains doesn't mean that they aren't "real".
Off the subject, John Lennon went around spitting on and making fun of handicapped people, when he was a teenager. This does NOT EXCUSE THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOUR, but Lennon turned out okay.
Sure, all the new punks are treading on paths that have been walked before. Hell, I walked them back in the day, and in my heart I still am. But what do we expect them to do? Not express themselves with punk rock? Maybe, just maybe one of these little fuckers will do something new with it. Frank Black did, maybe Smash will. Yeah, there will be alot of useless music made in the search for "a better thing". But that doesn't mean that kids (and that is what Smash is, a kid) shouldn't try.
Smash is saying some stupid things, but that is part of what punk is. Really smart people saying and doing stupid things. (DMUB, everyone's accusing me!)
As to the punk ethos,I will claim to have some experience here. Let's just leave it at that.

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Monday, 1 March 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello. I am not a horse. But I know a horse when I see one.

And now, case closed.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 1 March 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

::sigh:::

I'm going to try to articulate this one more time. I'm not saying: Smash's definition Punk is wrong, but mine is RIGHT. What I'm objecting to is his black'n'white, sweeping declaration of it. Were there idiotic, nihilist strains of Punk rock of the variety Smash is seemingly represenint? Of COURSE there was (key word there: was), but my point is that there was SO. MUCH. MORE. TO. IT. THAN. THAT! Punk Rock did not begin and end with the slackjawed, self-destructive shenanigans of Sid Vicious. Not every Punk Rocker was an inarticulate bonehead with a smack habit. Not every Punk Rocker was an intollerant, ignorant bigot. It was a bit BROADER and usually MORE INTELLIGENT than that. But, to listen to Smash, you don't get that impresion. Smash adheres to the very stereotype that drove Punk Rock thoroughly into the ground! My point is that Smash is doing the very movement he claims to embody a grave disservice.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And Speedy, don't worry about "making an enemy" of me. This is a discussion/debate. If one can't have such a debate without making enemies, what's the point? We may disagree, but I'm not going to consider you an enemy as a result.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way, Smash, Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks is gay (ever notice than none of his love songs were gender-specific?). You might want to factor that into your studied presentation before you cite them as a big favorite and then lambast others as faggots. One of the great things about Punk Rock was that it was inclusive, not exclusive.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 March 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete Shelley is bi.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 1 March 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There are/were plenty of other gays and lesbians and unidentified flying weirdos in punk, and it would take days to list them all, but the most salient examples I can think of right now would be Darby Crash (according to that recent biography) and Big John of The Exploited (according to Momus).

Even if none of them were actually man-lovers, the Buzzcocks were practically as gay as the Village People.

Naples Teens Charged In Brevard Grave Robbery

(AP)

Gothic youths defend misunderstood lifestyle
They say Columbine, grave desecrations not part of Goth

By Lourdes Briz and Enrique Heredero,
originally featured in FLORIDA TODAY

PALM BAY -- By now Deena Reichel is accustomed to the stares.

Dean Saunder gives Deena Reichel a shoulder rub. Both say they are members of the "Goth" culture.

Image copyright © 2003 FLORIDA TODAY.

Like many of her friends, the 20-year-old can be found walking local stores or shopping malls draped in all black, sometimes mingling Victorian clothing with leather and even fishnet stockings.

"I get a lot of people who come up to me and ask if I want help finding Jesus," said Reichel, a self-described "Goth" subculture enthusiast living in Indian Harbour Beach.

But as three Goth-influenced youths go to court Friday for hearings in a Palm Bay grave desecration case,
Reichel and others in the cultural movement are again defending a largely misunderstood and mysterious lifestyle from the actions of a few others.

Three years ago, it was the Columbine attacks -- with its descriptions of teens in black trench coats -- that first put a national focus on the darkly-clad young adults who listened to industrial or gothic music or who emulated the gray worlds written about by authors such as Anne Rice.

Despite that, the perceptions the movement is tied to something darker is still there, even among parents and relatives of Goths. "I told them, 'This isn't Gothic, this is sick,'" Reichel said of her response to family members linking Goths overall with the cemetery desecrationsJim Oelschlager, director of counseling and psychological services at Florida Tech, said he's seen several Goths over the years and finds many are anti-authority.

"My experience with certain individuals is they're struggling with their identity and finding a sense of acceptance," Oelschlager said.

Oelschlager said he doesn't find the Goth movement to be a sinister subculture. He also said Goth might be the latest successor to other cultural movements.

"In the 60s, you had anti-war stance, which was a powerful issue, and the hippie movement. Today, you don't have a stance like that, so all these sub-movements have popped up," Oelschlager said
The Graveyard
There are no definitive statistics on how many Goths there are nationally. But cultural movement or not, investigators said on Jan. 6, five young adults steeped in the Goth lifestyle -- some with coal black hair, baggy clothes and even the tattoos of an alien skull -- crept onto the grounds of Fountainhead Memorial cemetery in Palm Bay.

In the dark of night, the group broke into a mausoleum and removed the cremated remains of an unidentified woman, reports show.

The group removed a gold ring along with rosary beads from another box before taking the cremated remains back to a Palm Bay home where they sifted the ashes into different containers.

All five were arrested on charges of burglary and abuse of a dead human body in connection with the Jan. 6 incident. They were Joseph Felix, 18; Shawn Catron, 17; Rachel Cooley, 22; Christopher Dean Chauncey, 17 and Tara Lea Forste, 18.

Felix, Cooley and Forste will go before Brevard County Judge David Silverman on Friday to enter pleas on the charges. They told police they were "Goths" and liked spooky places.

"We don't run into a lot of cases involving Gothic participants," said Cmdr. Mark Riley of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. There have been other instances reported nationwide of youths involved with the Goth culture being involved with similar cases, Riley said.

"It can certainly be a warning flag for behavior outside the norm. From time to time we do see kids involved in that sub society," Riley said of the case.

Many in Brevard's Gothic subculture are outraged by the burglary and don't want to be stereotyped as grave robbers.

Columbine
What is typically referred to as Gothic music started in the late 1970s and stemmed from the Punk movement.
Rock historians with Rolling Stone magazine credit the band Bauhaus as starting Goth. The genre has had several waves since then, although many younger Goths will pledge allegiance to shock rocker Marilyn Manson.

Nationally, Goths gained overnight recognition after the notoriety of the Columbine High School shootings in which 12 people were shot to death and 22 people wounded when teenage gunmen Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold stormed the campus with assault weapons.

The two shooters were initially linked to a clique called "The Trench Coat Mafia." Goths dismiss the two as not being true to Gothic culture and cite the fact that the two had white supremacy leanings.

School officials across the nation -- including Brevard -- soon asked students to refrain from wearing the coats out of concern for disruptions.

And although Klebold and Harris wore black, some say that is where their connections with Goths end. Guilt by association?
"After Columbine people with trench coats became killers. In this case everyone with tattoos and piercings or dresses in black is suddenly considered a grave robber," said Dean Saunders.

Saunders, a 27-year-old Indian Harbour Beach resident, knew one of the youths accused of stealing the ashes and said the grave robbing incident is not indicative of the Gothic subculture.

Being Goth, he said, does not make him abnormal. Saunders considers himself a Christian and has a full-time job as a pool technician. He also enjoys spending time at home with his live-in girlfriend, listening to Jazz or watching "The Simpsons" television show.

What concerns Saunders are the instant perceptions some form about groups like Goths.

He said two of his Goth friends overheard Cooley and others bragging about the incident, prompting them to go to policeSaunders said he had met Cooley through a local role playing game entitled "Vampire, the Masquerade." The game is attended by about 30 people each week, most of whom call themselves Goth.

Reichel, who works at the Atlanta Bread Company, puts her dyed black hair in pig tails and wears black eyeliner with a teardrop painted on her face as part of the vampire character she plays.
Aaron Voss, a representative of White Wolf, the second largest publisher of role playing games in the nation, said grave robbing is not what the games are about.

"All our books specifically have a disclaimer that says this is just a game and if you ever start thinking it's real go talk to somebody because there's a problem," he said.

Goth, the label
Still, not all Goths are into the role-playing games or even in to wearing the heavy makeup.

For Jason Elliott, 23-year old computer teacher, the term Goth is merely a label.

"If you see 80 of us, you're going to notice the five dressed all in black with all the piercings because they're drawing attention to themselves," Elliot said.

"A lot of them are more comfortable with themselves then some people I know who are not Goth."

they called me goth haha
suck on those anarchy apples

GRAVE DIGGER, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Look, man, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I post as myself and no one else. I don't know Smash and Gravedigger, and while I may not agree with them, I don't suggest that they're anyone other than who they say they are. Moreover, this is all getting rather dull this evening. Maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow. Whatever. If you little boys want to believe that what you're doing is Punk Rock, who am I to suggest otherwise? Just remember that it existed before you were even born. Therefore it is not yours to define.

TS: Smash v. HUNTA-D

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

IF YOU ARE A REAL PUNK LISTEN TO SEX PISTOLS THE CLASH

One more question. How do you two reconcile the post-Pistols and post-Clash trajectories of Lydon, Strummer, Jones, Simonon and Paul Cook. Each and every one of them has since deviated from your precious, revisionist visionof Punk Rock. How do you deal with the notion that Lydon initially renounced the Pistols only to embrace Dub and Disco? How do you deal with the idea that Steve Jones slowly morphed into a poodle-haired metal head? How do you deal with the idea that Strummer and Jones basically comitted Punk heresy (by your standards) and embraced musics other that three-chord rock? You can't exist in a vaccum forever.

grave digger, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm honestly no longer upset about Smash & Gravedigger's perception of Punk Rock. Hell, if that's what makes'em happy....so be it. What I'm presently pissed off about is the notion that certain folks think I'd honestly waste this much time posting as three different people. I'd like to think I'd created a better impression than that. For fuck's sake, I'm a 36 yr old with a job and a wife and life...why would I bother?

Also, the whole pedophile thing. Seriously, stop that. It's not funny and it's in exceptionally poor taste.

Smash and Gravedigger...if you two clowns ever get your act together and manage to get your band to play in NYC, you let me know, and I'll be front and center to watch you play and we can address our mutual grievances in person. Who knows, maybe you'll win me over. Or not.

The e-mail below is a valid one.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

He-e-e-e-e-ere's Johnny! I'm back on line, Chris. Someone else here was expecting a phone call and I was on the phone with Yvonne for the past half hour, that's why he said to call back. The phone's been ringing off the hook for me, and it's starting to piss off the people that live here, as well as those that work here. And John Lydon, or did you all not know Rotten was only his stage last name with the Pistols, was Punk as Hell for switching musical styles. I keep telling you PUNK is doing whatever you want to do with no regard for what anyone else thinks about you. If you care that much, how can you be really going against the grain? You're not, if you are like that, then you're being fake, also known as a POSEUR ALEX IN NY.

Alex in Nyc, If you check on this thread again, thanks for the answer. I still kinda support Smash, but I think Grave Digger is the real Sid here. (read Sid=idiot without a cause)
Smash, I support intelligent mayhem, not mindless shit talk. Your chances on getting heard will be dependent on keep that dumbass bandmate of yours too fucked up to talk. And don't loan him money or you'll soon be supporting a bad habit.

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Punk Princess, it's five thirty in the morning so by the time you read this I'll be waiting in line at the labor pool for a job so I won't be online, but I'm 5'10", 150 lbs, with grey eyes and dark brown hair. I've got the same tattoo Russel Crowe had in Romper Stomper on my left arm, a tattoo of a punk rocker's face with a liberty spike mohawk with the Business song tittle "Loud, Proud and Punk" ttattooede around it, and various other tattoos on my body, a nose ring and lip ring, and both ears are pierced but I don't have any earrings in them. I wear my hair spiked or sometimes I actually take the time to liberty spike it, and used to have a three foot mohawk, I'm thinking about growing it back out, what do you think? Leave a description of you and I'll check back on this shitty website when I get off work. Call me at 239-774-2859, after 5:30 pm, I should be back from work by then, and we'll meet. Now all you poseurs, leave my friend Chris alone, or else! Or else what? You'll have to answer to me! It takes a lot to show the world how much of a noncormist one really is, and what he did is a smack in the face to all who live down here, that actually are so stuck up with their money, they make it AGAINST THE LAW TO BE HOMELESS! Shit like that is fucked up. And it's not just punk rockers and runaway kids their targeting, it's the working class in general. A man with three kids and a wife was recently arrested and thrown in jail because the company he worked for went bankrupt and he lost his job, therefore couldn't pay rent. He and his family were living in a motel, not even on the streets, and the Collier County Indigent Task Force found out he was staying at that motel too long to be a vacationer. He couldn't buy the police off, so now his family suffers, because the jail here makes $250.00 a day per person for whoever they have in jail. Tell me that's not fucked up. We're going to RISE ABOVE! I was born in the Spirit of 77, therefore I am the reincarnation of PUNK, I am the physical manifestation of all that is PUNK. We're going to BEAT THE BASTARDS! Well, I've got to go to work. Catch you punks later.

Well considering I'm about a decade plus older that yourself and you "daddy", I don't have to read about it, as I'm old enough to remember it first hand (y'know...when it was still a barely viable entity....unlike today). Moreover, feel free to call me a poseur. You're perfectly within your rights to do so, but seeing as that I'm not claiming to be anything that I'm not (y'know, unlike yourselves), the epithet rings a bit hollow.

Smash, I don't really know what Grave Digger did or didn't do, and I am sure that the shit going on in your neck of the woods is fucked up. I am just saying that you make sense and your boy just talks shit. You may have noticed, and maybe this is why you keep coming back, that bullshit doesn't fly very far here. Right or wrong, the people around here tend to be far from stupid. Alex in NYC, who disagrees with you soooo much, is a very smart man. And he ain't bullshitting. So keep coming around, but keep your boy in check if you want me to listen.
And make sure you know who your throwing the "poseur" at. Folks around here have been places that you've only read about.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

that fucker was hit head on by a car while walking down the road and he lost half of his face and they did reconstructive sergury <<tell the world cause were not going anywhere and why fight about the punk situation its stupid if smash is punk or your a rudeboy then your what you are and if ya dont like it then fuck off ya know shit were good musicians and smash writes songs that are fucking amazing.
i mean really good better than anything if heard and not cause its punk its just good shit and the fucked up part is he wrote 67 songs in one and a half months and they all are amazing i mean hes not lost in life he trys hes a good guy just give him a chance
all though he fucks with people that doesnt mean anything its just that hes fucking stuck at this shitty house that you have to leave at 8 and come back at 3 30 then from 5 00 till 5 30 ypou have to tell everyone about who you have a problem with and then you have eat at 5 30 be back at 6 to 7 for aa then lock down at 10 and if your not their your kicked out. and its fucking 60 dollars a week their i mean FUCK!!!!
and probation working 8 hours a day digging ditchs moving big shit at constructions sights for 40 dollars$$$
if ya dont like him then its ok fuck off but some people like i say is you have to meet them to get to know them and this is one big bullshit keyboard one step closer for someone to talk shit and i dont actually talk shit cause i can back it up i love my life but im not afarid of death its an awesome thing.actually its kindof of hard to feal anything when pain is nothing but motion leaving the body i mean i aint captain howdy but its fucking amazing to have someone to kick you in the face while your on the ground you know

Posting pics. Stop snifffing glue for a second and pay attention now:

For a start, you have to host them somewhere. Then, once they're uploaded, do as follows:

_____________

Leave no space between the < and IMG. DO leave a space between IMG and SRC. Leave no space between SRC, = and the first ". Where the line is, post the URL of your pic. Leave no space between the URL address and the second ". Also, leave no space between the second " and the >. Got it? Like so...

Chris, you online, man? Helloooooo?

Smash, Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for the support, but you made me sound like my face was deformed or something and the Punk Princess hasn't written back or called me since then. Damn. If you're out there Punk Princess, let me know, there's nothing wrong with my face. You can't tell at all that my head was "smashed" between a van bumper and a concrete telephone pole going 40 miles an hour. I was in a coma and on life support for two weeks because of that accident. I flatlined 15 times on the helicopter flight to the Ft.Myers trauma center, and was under the van and had lost 40-60% of my blood for half an hour after the first cops arrived on the scene. No one even knew I had been a part of the accident, including the driver, until a puddle of blood started oozing out from beneath the van like the Blob. My right leg was pulled out from the hip socket and pulled out at a 90 degree angle from the rest of my body, and twisted 180 degrees, so my knee cap was behind me. My shin was shattered in three places, and a big piece of the bone was ripped through the skin, a compound fracture I believe it is called. I couldn't move my right arm for a month, but then taught myself how to use it again because I was getting pissed that I would never get to play guitar again, and it took me four months to learn how to walk again, which I taught myself. I never went to physical therapy, I used iron will. Tell me that that's not punk! I'll get the pictures transferred to disc so I can download them. I look like the Terminator, with the side of my head gone, or Faces of Death. But, believe it or not, you can't tell anything ever happened, except I limp slighly when I walk. But my face looks fine, I'm still getting phone numbers left and right. So get in touch with me, Punk Princess, while supplies last. This could be a limited time offer, you never know. And I'm gonna be rich and famous one day. I actually plan on spending some of that money donating it to battered women and abused children charities, and I want to open up my own chain of shelters for runaway and throwaway children and call them The Squat. That would be punk! I AM THE MOST PUNK MOTHER FUCKER THAT HAS EVER EXISTED! You don't want to "THREAD" on me, poseurs! Did that piss any of you off? Quit trying my friend and guitarist GRAVEDIGGER, because all you are doing is digging your own grave! And quit trying my girl PUNK PRINCESS, she's the shiznit and I can't wait to meet her. Well, I've got to go so I can wake up on time to sweep out houses all day. Yee-haw!

Write or call me hottie, let's hook up and piss the world off together! Chris, I'm up pretty late, so I might not wake up in time to go to work, so leave me a note or e-mail how I can get a hold of you so we can hang out, you to Punk Princess! Everyone else, can LICK MY NADS! or FUCK OFF!! Oh, hey Chris, if you have sex with a virgin, it's called "popping her cherry," and if you have anal sex with a girl for the first time, it's called "popping her chocolate covered cherry"! HA!HA!HA!HA! I want to enter the Punk Princess' fudge tunnel of love! I'm gonna go smoke a cigarette and then go to sleep. Hey Chris, are you online? I got your message from Larry about you having found me a job and a place to live. I still don't have your new house phone, so write me back soon (it's 1:30 P.M., Allen let me come in early since I didn't get out at the labor pool today, and since I'm on probation, don't need to be wandering the streets aimlessly,) or call me on the lanai phone. We need to start jamming this weekend, even if Danny ain't back from getting his shit in Indiana. Talk to Little Kat and get the drummer's phone number so we can arrange to meet him this weekend. The world is waiting, and we need to deliver. We're gonna be the greatest thing since peanut butter and jelly. SuicIdols forever. Like was said above, we're gonna revolutionize the Punk scene and music in general. After we're done, the whole world is gonna be one race, PUNK. And under one form of government, ANARCHIC. It will be like the Hippie movement, everyone will be screaming GIVE PUNK A CHANCE and MAKE PUNKS NOT WAR! HA!HA!HA!HA! I had a dream....

How about them apples? Punk Princess, how come you haven't called me or written back? The Internet world is waiting, and I guess I'll try that phone number tonight after work if you don't make the next move. I can't think of anything belligerant to say to everyone, except after treating my friend Chris like shit last night, the people that run the St. Matthews House need to pull those dicks out of their asses! Well, I've got to go to work now. That sucks! Adios my punk rock vatos.

* Will the new drummer work out?

*What does the music sound like?

* Will Smash get together with Punk Princess?

So, you see, I've plenty of good reasons to tune into this ridiculous thread.

The Godpunker is on a role tonight! Rolling your pig heads down like a wrecking ball from HELL! HA!HA!HA!HA! Chris, you digging any graves to bury these stocking stuffers in? Where the fuck is the Punk Princess?! Ya'll ain't the only ones wanting to know if I spank her royal hiny-ness! She's probably out kissing a frog somewhere! I'm the KING OF PUNK ROCK, baby! I'll be your knight in studded armour, 'less your scared I'm just too fucking hard core for you! It's like a fucking soap opera on this thread! General Squat, Days of our Punks or something! Gravedigger, call me or something, bi-atch! I got word of a new band forming, though they're not punk, more like Deftones or Soulfly! My friend Evil Ed's got a band called Cheong Eck, which I was supposed to be in six months ago when I had $40,000.00 from my accident settlement, but that all went UP IN SMOKE! I was blazed for dayz! My infamous Thirty Grand in Thirty Days! No one believed that was possible, but like everything else I claim, I proved 'em all wrong! But look where that got me! HA!HA!HA!HA! All my friends forgot my nickname Smash, 'cause they were all calling me Hugh Hefner and their ladies all called me Daddy! I had a lot of shit, and partied my ass off like no other time of my life, and it was great because I shouldn't have lived to enjoy that money, but do you bug-eyed, skeptics know what I learned from all that? Maintenance! If I had worked the whole time I was spending that money, I would have still been putting money back in the bank and kept my apartment, motorcycle, $10,000.00 recording studio and entertainment center that filled 90% of my frigging bedroom, my guitars and skateboards and shit, but after about two months, I noticed my stash getting low, my friends and all the strippers, hookers and call girls that ran around my apartment butt naked at all times of the day dissappearing, then my bank account going below zero and checks bouncing, then ewviction notices started popping up and I still hadn't found a fucking job, then all my shit started going back on the shelves I saved them from, other peoples houses as I sold some of it, and then pawnshops until I lost everything, including the apartment and popularity. But you know what lived through it all? My legend, and believe me, I will be back! So learn from my dumbass mistake, and maintain motherfuckers! Damn! I sidetracked! Me and my big ego, Paul Bunyan sized head and shit! Anyway, my boy Evil Ed's band Cheong Eck are fucking hardcore! I'll keep you posted on them too, followers! You know how we came up with the name Cheong Eck? It's Cambodian, what the Khmer Rouge named the field they left all the dead bodies in when they went through their country and masacred all the teachers, doctors, scientists, heads of state and anyone else with intelligence. The Killing Fields are what Ed and I called the streets when we lived in a 12 man army tent in the Everglades for the first two years I was in Naples. Told ya'll I'm a gutterpunk. Be back in a minute, Gravediggers on the phone.

Leave no space between the < and IMG. DO leave a space between IMG and SRC. Leave no space between SRC, = and the first ". Where the line is, post the URL of your pic. Leave no space between the URL address and the second ". Also, leave no space between the second " and the >. Got it? Like so...

Listen up PUNKS! We need to all unite! I owed $120.00 for two weeks rent to the St. Matthews House three years ago, and because I spent that money on my probation fees so I wouldn't be violated and sent to prison, which would cause the SuicIdols to retire before we even began, I want you all to call this phone number starting tomorrow morning, and let them know you're disgusted that a homeless shelter would care more about money than the homeless they're supposedly helping! Maybe a million phone calls interrupting their counting of stacks of money will force them to use their fucking heads and realize that they're really using God and the Christian religion as a tool to control the wet brained meek of this New Babylon city! (239)774-0500 is the St. Matthews House office phone number, call it and voice your opinion, and maybe the SuicIdols will still stand a chance. We won't if I'm thrown in jail for violating probation because I'm homeless! Trust me, we're gonna be worth it! So call that fucking number tomorrow, I wanna wake up to the sound of a phone ringing a million times, not an alarm clock. You've got your mission, punks, should you choose to accept it. May the force be with you all....

christhamrin (christhamrin), Sunday, 7 March 2004 06:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I tried, but, dammit! it looks like the SuicIdols are going to be put on hold for a while. I got one chance left to stay in Naples and out of jail, but if not, I might be going home to Port Angeles and taking my probation with me. I've got to call some friends of a friend back at 10:00 P.M. EST, and if they don't let me move in with them, I'll be going solo on a six month to one year tour. So keep an eye on this thread, 'cause it's "The Final Countdown." (That was for all you hair metal fags that keep corrupting my shit with Ratt and Trixter pics!)

"Aaron Dilloway (guitar, voice), John Olson (drums, intros), and Michael Troutman (bass) live together in Ann Arbor, skateboard every day, and play in a band aptly named Violent Ramp. Inspired by seminal skate-rock like JFA, the Faction, and Negative Approach, Aaron and John decided their other band (industrial dub trio Wolf Eyes) didn’t afford them enough opportunities to truly destroy. After hooking up with their roommate Michael, himself a young veteran of Michigan’s music scene, and eschewing their other projects’ art/noise leanings, Aaron and John started the band as a conduit for old-school, good- times violence.

Less than a year old, Violent Ramp has already developed a rabid following in their home state and a growing cult nationwide on word of mouth alone. Skaters, noise nerds, artists, and punks both young and old turn out for the party. The shows are pure chaos. At every performance to date they’ve set up skate obstacles in front of their equipment for the audience to thrash. This past New Years they destroyed the Elbow Room in Ypsilanti and were banned for life. P.A., mics, mic stands, monitors - everything was broken. According to John, “We were grabbing out the ceiling tiles and breaking them over people’s heads. Even had a fight in my room that night. Killer.” - Russ Waterhouse, Vice Mag

This is their debut recording.

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

the Elbow Room was where I helped do sound and book shows back in michigan.

i don't know if any band has actually been banned from there, except from a coupla metal bands that felt the need to try to steal mic stands and break the urinals.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

How did you know they were punk if you didn't know them?

J-Dub, I was listening to "real punk" when you were still in your noise diaper!

When I was a kid, I thought it was hilarious that America had punk!

Actually, it's still hilarious!

Yeah, considering it fuckin' STARTED here, it's just too hilarious, isn't it.

I used to be punk, like, a couple of years ago. But now I have massive credit card debt, a clean apartment, and I make coffee for executives (and don't put poison in it).

Smash. Over. Out.

I miss Smash...

latebloomer: Deutsch Bag (latebloomer), Sunday, 18 December 2005 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

I guess I was punk in attitude though not in style when I was a teen: I was in a local anarchist group, I went to all the animal rights demonstrations, a lot of my friends were punks, I hung with them at the railway station and in parks drinking moonshine, etc. I was even involved in arranging the first outdoors anarchist music festival in Finland. But besides that I only ever went to two punk gigs myself; I wore colourful clothes and listened to techno, so I guess I wasn't a true punk rocker.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 18 December 2005 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

2 Charged In Restaurant Break-in
Posted Date: 4/30/2008 5:30 AM

"A man and a woman were arrested early Wednesday after deputies say they broke into an East Naples restaurant.

Christopher Dean Chauncey, 23, and Margie Edwards, 19, both of 448 Castle Drive, North Naples, were each charged with burglary of a business and petty theft.

Reports say deputies on patrol noticed items being thrown over a fence toward a parked car in back of Foxboro Sports Tavern, 4200 Thomasson Lane, around 1:45 a.m.

Deputies say Chauncey was throwing the items. Chauncey told deputies that he was at the restaurant to get drinks and cups and that he had permission to be there from a friend who works at the business, reports said.

Chauncey also told deputies that Edwards, his girlfriend, was with him, reports said.
Deputies called for Edwards, who was hiding in nearby bushes.

Both Chauncey and Edwards were wearing black clothing, reports said. Chauncey was wearing a dark blue bandanna around his face. Edwards had a black hat with cut outs for the eyes in one of her pockets, reports said.

A search of the car turned up a case of soda, a gas can, cleaning supplies and tools that deputies say had been stolen from the restaurant."
