Can we have a London Karaoke FAP in, say, a couple of weeks?

Please? I had such a good time last time. The venue was good too. It has to be a Thursday, right?

"If you had one shot, or one opportunity..."

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

no

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh oh! I'll come this time, I promise! Thursdays are good for me.

Gareth- - mlep! :p

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes let's.

Wouldn't you like to know (Amused), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

yes definitely. both the faps there were great.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

This Thursday would be ideal as its a public holiday the next day... but it clashes with something I can't quite put my finger on.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Passover.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

How Does It Feel To Be Loved? No really, how does it? But that's what's on this Thursday, for all the London indie Motown ravers amongst us. Do come along, it's grebt, and takes place in a very red basement bar.

But whoot! Yes, more Pint Pot karaoke FAPs. They are fun, even if the new bloke has a rubbish selection of songs.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

First of May, then?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Is the next day a holiday?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the following Monday (May the 4th... yes, yes) is the International Workers Day this year.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Doh - May the 5th I meant.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

No no no, Robster and I are in Paris then! Oh go on then if you must, but understand that I will have to curse you and all your descendants.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why I suggested a couple of weeks :)

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh I might come to this. then you can all hate me in the flesh as well as online

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

STEVEM TO THREAD!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Does stevem do "born slippy" at karaoke FAPs?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

He does now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

*bags "Lose Yourself" before anyone else claims it*

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

may 1 is...um...the huey lewis concert. (now that i've said that, no one will want to meet me anyway!)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to do "The Boys Are Back In Town".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

'Born Slippy' would be too obvious for me, i was actually planning on either Chas n Dave's 'Sideboard Song', Digital Underground's 'Humpty Dance' or something by my discovery of the week, BJ Thomas

i think Matt should do Run DMC so his e-mail name is even more apt and phunny

1st of May sounds perfect

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

steve did you get my e-mail, i sent it to base not blueski.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Oi! No May 1 FAKP, awwight? Or I will have to stage a Parisian situationist riot. Reclaim the sTWEEts, muthas. Week after that pretty please.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the week before - April 24th?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be late on the 24th (dinner with a cousin), but it's possible. I'd prefer a different week, as if I am to stay night-bus late (and if I can't get there until late, it's pointless coming at all if I don't stay late) I want to book the next day off work, and next week is a three day week for us anyway, and there's too much to do to book another day off.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

any date beyond this month and i will lose all interest - ha, so be warned

Ronan, my base58 server has been for 24 hours + so not got it yet - hang on...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I can do the 24th, I think. Dissenters, now's the time to speak up...

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be far away from London on the 24th.

Also I can't do any Thursdays now...that's when I have my bereavement counselling sessions.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know yet, but I may be in Turin on the 24th

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the day before pay day - I'll be at home eating toast.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Same here, actually, so the 24th might actually be a bit tricky for me. I also have to move house that weekend so will be at home packing, probably. May 1st looks better, or even the weekend after it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, I'll lend you twenty quid. That is a terrible excuse.

May 8th? Is that good with everyone?

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo! You are my hero with a shiny head Marco!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't do the 8th

and I want to come and play :(

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh this is all too complicated. Bah.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I can do it any day except the 6th (or weekends),

*deep breath*

Guess who just got back today?/Those wild-eyed boys that had been away/Haven't changed, haven't much to say/But man, I still think those cats are crazy

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha, look how they flounder without a steering committee ;)

next week no good for me, but don't let that stop you...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

is it only Thursdays they do it at the pub then?

looks like we need ILX's very own landlord to pick a date and stick a date, where's Tom?

May 8th is too faraway - how about THIS thursday? we can have a sing-song then pop up to Mornington Crescent for a shindig at Zatek

NOTE - i do not use words like 'singsong' and 'shindig' in real life ok?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

This Thursday is Mark C on the wheels of steel, so I don't think rival FAPs will be appreciated.

I vote May 1st, because the 8th is ages away, and I want j0e to come, although I am agonising that this means coming between Liz and Avril.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

fnarr fnarr

Mark C DJing? where? Ronan's in town as well...sorry houseboy, your secret is out

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops yes I am going to be in Zatek near Mornington Crescent tube on Thursday, my friend and my brother and various people I know (maybe myself too, RARE APPEARANCE) are djing. I don't mind if noone goes along, but anyone is welcome, sorry Mark C I am not intending to steal your punters!

I'm also thinking of going to Dave Clarke in Fabric on Friday if anyone fancies some humourless techno.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

oh and Jon Carter in the Medicine Bar on Friday if anyone's up for that, it's free. And Deep Dish in Dublin on Sunday, come along to that too.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

shit, ok then, I can't abide karaoke then (yeah yeah, or fun), that's my real excuse.

anyone up for champagne with us and my mother on Saturday night?

chris (chris), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops, I cannae do this Thursday, either.

Ronan-I can't go on Friday, but love Dave Clarke. I thought everyone on ILX hated him.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

don't forget to mention that Zatek is more of a post-pub thing, so it probably wouldnt clash with anything else going on beforehand

Jon Carter at Medicine Bar? that could be heavenly or hellish depending on various factors...if i'm still intact after Thursday then i may check it oot

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Zatek goes till 2 I'm told, so maybe no clashes.

I like Dave Clarke Nordicskillz, the more 80s he gets the more I enjoy it though, I must say.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C: How does it Feel to be Love? next Thursday

I'm quite up for Zatek as well though, and I want to meet Ronan. But an old mate of mine is over from Ireland and I can really see this long weekend fading into a haze of beer and sunshine with a break for chocolate eggs and dinner with the family on Sunday.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

me too, it's a beautiful vision! Admittedly my parents are away for the weekend so I eat the eggs alone when I get back on Sunday.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

you guys still get eggs? no fair

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I think mine's a dime one, steve I'll buy you a cream egg tomorrow

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, don't worry yourself - my grand total of ILX regulars at previous How Does it Feel?s is zero, so you'll have to work hard to do better than that. Hope you have a smashing night!

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Cream Eggs are the devil's work - the yukky innards make me quite ill

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a big fan of the McFlurrys.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Schmcflurry! i was happy enough with the old skool sundaes they did

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

McDonalds=Babylon.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Big Mac=Satan's Poison.
McDonald's "Fruit" Pies=The work of the devil.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

the donuts used to be good tho

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The chocolate ones? Hell yeah.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

marks and spencers do really weird BAKED doughnuts. it's unnatural and wrong

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh mr lardy dar, too snooty even for M&S eh?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

not that i'm saying you're lardy...i mean, oh never mind...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

runs home to cry into bucket of swill

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

1st May at the Pint Pot it is (I'll be late, but I'll also be drunk so you'll get the double whammy).

Maypole dancing is obligatory.

They did start doing Karaoke on Friday's there as well.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

So let it be written so let it be done

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

pete puts a stop to all this 'conflicting with my schedule bizness' and lays down the law!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Steering Committee - it's Pete's perogative.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

they say he's nasty, he really doesn't care

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Everybody's talking all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live?
I don't need commission, I make my own decisions
THAT'S MY PREROGATIVE.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a big Dave Clarke fan! Yes, I know I'm old, but I don't mean 'Glad All Over'. However, I am obviously too old for this clubbing thing you groovy with it youngsters do.

I'll be at the FAP on May 1st, I don't doubt. There should be a prize for getting there first I think, especially when the FAP is around the back of my office.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Mayhap I will have money by then. Mayhap I won't. Mayhap I will properly brick myself about the prospect of singing at people.

We shall see what we shall see.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin you should come out tomorrow night - you dont have to dance, altho i'm sure you'd be better at that than me anyway - and its more of a bar vibe so you can just cheel and drink beer if nothing else

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to be in London May 14th through the 19th. I don't want to be so bold as to say that we should have a FAP because of it but it would be nice to meet some of you. perhaps I should say that I will be at a pub at a certain time and whoever can make it should and that the first round or so is on me (more if not many people show up).

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

hey Carey its my birthday around then so depending on whether anything happens for that re drinks with ILXers then sounds like a good combination

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Great, maybe I'll start a re-thread sometime closer to then. woo hoo!

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 17 April 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey, your posts make me laugh like an idiot child. I'll def. come for a drink if you're around.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 17 April 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 17 April 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I'll join. I had to really control myself after yr post on the pen thread.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 17 April 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Great! I'm not sure which zone people are located in, I guess we'll pick something central closer to the time. Just as long as their are no trees around. I lived in London for six months and I had this horrible habit of climbing trees after too many pints. I would wake up the next day and wonder why my clothes had crap all over them. Oh and O pretend like I'm a Scottish sailor when drunk so be warned.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 17 April 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

er...OK

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for the heads up, Carey :)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem, you tempt me. This is that indie club you're talking about? I'm really not so keen on indie.

William, singing is not compulsory. I've been to two karaoke FAPs and not sung at all. If you're very lucky, this practice may continue.

Carey, visiting ILXers generally seem to get a good turnout. It was Anthony Easton's first London FAP where I first showed up, for instance, something like a year ago. Central locations do get the best turnout too - go too far in any direction, and it will be inconvenient for some.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 April 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh good. That just leaves the whole money thing.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

UEHFAJHCSLAKJCLAJEWDHEYYYYYYYYYYYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGH!]

I had a good night, very nice to meet Matt and hang with Stevem and Gareth again. Steve and Matt missed the Bugged Out party afterwards! Free beer! The Rooty DJs were there and it was pretty cool. Thanks for coming along anyway, hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 April 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It was indeed a rocking night - cool to meet Ronan... I really wanted to stay for longer but had to get back reasonably early so mentalism and ruin wasn't an option.

Ronan - this is urgent and key - where on EARTH did your mate get that Stooges remix from, and what is your other mates' tune called?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 20 April 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Stooges remix - wild guess, but is it Doggystyle by Archigram?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 20 April 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you might be right... definitely Archigram.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Archigram yeah, William I didn't have you down as a Crydamoure man! heh, yeah I prefer their single from last year "Carnival" (a definite search), not sure of the name of my mates tune, they won't tell me! They're called Hystereo, no releases yet, I think it's all being carefully planned.

You missed some fun afterwards Matt, we went to see the Rooty DJs, which was good house fun and the club was really wild with a great atmosphere for a few hours. The only problem was they'd stopped serving drinks when we got there.

However this was quickly rectified by Phil hobknobbing with some Bugged Out people and producing some free beer armbands!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm gutted about missing that Ronan, still i really enjoyed it at Zatek (note to Martin, this is NOT an indie night! and nor is Buttoned Down Disco really) - and that Hystereo tune sounded very good.

still i'm happy cos i had a brilliant time last night at Asylum for the 'bring your own bootlegs' Bastard special - even got to DJ for 25 mins and unlike everyone else i played all new, unheard stuff i made myself, woo fuckin yeh

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

can i just point out that at Bugged Out, Red Planet - Star Dancer was played. this made me happy

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I AM KING OF FRENCH HOUSE.

Nah, for some reason Source sent us the Crydamoure 'Waves II' compilation this week (it's out June 30th). Archigram mixed it... there is some deeply quality shizzee on there, including that Carnaval one you mentioned. Very, very nice.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

whoa! nice, any chance of a copy? if it's hassle don't worry.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Soz, I genuinely have not one single penny to my name at the present time, but I can give you the number of the PR feller if you fancy.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i said Zatek (venue) when i meant Fraggle (actual event name)

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

that would be cool yes!

God I had a brilliant weekend, might even go to the june fraggle for my brothers birthday despite being off to glasto the very next week!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Sent.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Would anyone care to do a compilation CD of all this cool new house stuff for a poor soul without Soulseek access and/or loads of money? Go on, look upon it as charity.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll see what i can do;)

man, it kicked off bigstyle after you and blueski left!

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Fraggle a regular thing? I wouldn't mind going along at some point in the future and bringing a few people with me...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 20 April 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

man, it kicked off bigstyle after you and blueski left!

yeh i could tell you were all just waiting for me to leave

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 April 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, yes matt the next one is in may sometime, i'll stick you on the list as soon as I talk to my brother and find out how to do so. a madcap plan has been hatched for me to go over the week before glasto as suggested, with a good friend of mine.

I'd gladly make the CD, but I don't have a burner at the moment. Matt definitely go along, they're really making a go of it these days and would love as many people as possible.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 21 April 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

motherfuckers need to go to Lost.

gareth (gareth), Monday, 21 April 2003 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it still on? I went to my first karaoke night on Saturday. Boys Are Back In Town is actually hard to sing, but many people said they enjoyed my rendition of Thong Song.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 28 April 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'll be elsewhere, finally trying to sort out a venue for YoinK!

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

what's Yoink!, Chris?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

as was pointed out to me by the fragrant mrs carsmile the other night, thursday is, in fact, my wedding anniversary (half of the reason for getting married on May 1 was so it would be easy to remember, d'oh!). However, as long as she doesn't have to sing, meg is happy to come along also, so it's FAAP/K (fancy an anniversary pint/karaoke)!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, if you want to do something after on thursday 1st may you could do worse (or probably better) to come to erm...'helicopter' at the rhythm facotry in whitechapel...why? cos im playing. also i got in the guide! therefore i am famous...also playing a bunch of garage rock bands...

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

YoinK! mr Skillz is a small night me and Jonnie want to set up, and there's a thing at the venue we want to use on Thursday night.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Read also as his excuse to miss karaoke becoz he is a hata.

I will be there but late as I have a slap up dinner afore.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, anniversary pint! i'll drink to steve's marital bliss f'shizzle (hmm, must STOP saying 'f'shizzle')

this Pint Pot better have Kid Creole up in their songbook

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a karaoke hata yes, I go to a pub to talk to my mates (or watch footy) not stand around listening to music being murdered (this is no diss to friends who do karaoke, just a general thing).

Yes, I hate fun

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh hey not sure if I can do this one actually - actually I should be able to but like Pete it will be a late doors thing if so.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never been to a karaoke, I have this one mate who is like a non-ironic Gonzalez in terms of getting pissed and howling enrique iglesias songs, he is a clown.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll probably totally bottle it anyway, i'm more interested in meeting ILXers finally...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

music being murdered

Note to Chris - you cannot "murder" Thong Song. It is the Living Dead.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Meeting people from the internet=one of those times when you just wished you'd used your own name as a handle, but are instead having to contemplate walking into a pub full of strangers who only know you as Baronet Hebrides Gigantor of Thoth, or whatever. Oh dear.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be saying 'Hey Nordy!' a lot

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope to hear you serenading Meg during the evening, Steve.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Bump.

People still up for this? From 6ish in the Pint Pot near Goodge St toob?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there, with the following day off as well so I'll finally be able to stay through to the bitter end.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be in early cos it's just round the corner from work. I may not be able to stay very long, unfortunately.

At least that's my excuse! ;)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

probably the same for me.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be there. i intend to get the tube home, though.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Expect me 9:30 - 10ish. Possibly in a suit.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i should be there around 7/7.30 - wearing a silver jacket probably, prepare to die!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there early, as I finish work at 5 about 50 yards away. Might get a bite to eat first if no one else is arriving absurdly early.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin, I'll drop in around six. I will be disguised as a shortish boy/manchild/thing in a green-beige jacket with brown floppy(ish) hair.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I should be there fairly early, but it depends on how long it'll take me to get from Piccadilly to Tottenham Court Road what with there being a huge fuckoff protest going on in between.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 May 2003 07:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Why oh why does it have to be karaoke? I actually rather need an FAP right now (due to being miserable and sad) but karaoke has nothing but bad associations for me.

Someone tell me where this place is? Like, exactly? On Goodge St or on Tottenham Court Road?

kate, Thursday, 1 May 2003 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

just off goodge street. its at the pint pot.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 May 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub37.htm

also karaoke doesn't get going til 9ish, so if you just want to come for a couple and then slope off before the bellowing begins thats perfectly possible.

i am taking my good lady wife for a meal before coming along, so probably there about half sixish...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 1 May 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, the karaoke is kind of shunted over into the corner of the pub, so is fairly easily ignorable for the hataz.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 May 2003 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

It's on Tottenham Court Road but it's nearest Goodge Street tube, Julio means! Turn right out of Goodge Street and it's about 2 mins up on your right.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 1 May 2003 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

If I go, I won't be taking the tube, that would be silly. But if the karaoke is avoidable, I think I shall turn up. And probably slope off early.

kate, Thursday, 1 May 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Plz come, Kate! And don't be sad! I am sure karaoke will be very avoidable.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you turn left out of Goodge St, Tico.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Is the tube really going to be that bad? If stevem thinks he can make it back to Ruislip, I'm sure I have a hope of getting home to good ole Edgware.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, left. Sorry. My directions would take you to KFC though so they're not completely worthless.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

it'll be fine by going home time, i think matt's more worried about coming out of work (not that i want to put words in his mouth :))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

come one everyone. don't let the some of the anarchist jerks 'win' ;-)

(this from someone who will be leaving early as in early unfortunately).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be along

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

j0e - did you know that as of today we've known each other for FOUR YEARS?!

I will not be seranading you in the manner of Mr and Mrs Carsmile, mind.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Four years?!

Fark!

I'll drink to that mate :)

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 1 May 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

oh i definitely won't be taking the tube home - i'm off clubbing (not seals) at half elevenish and then its the Oxford Tube coach for me around 2am - the Oxford Tube roxors as they say...they meaning Tom, Graham, Mark and whoever else has used it to get back to the Shires in the middle of the night.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

it'll be fine by going home time, i think matt's more worried about coming out of work (not that i want to put words in his mouth :))

Cryptic. Hmmmm...

Oh, stevem, you crack me up with your geography teacher-style puns! :p

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

R0xf0rd Tube.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i also dance just like a geography teacher

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you have leather patches on the elbows of that silver jacket of yours, too?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

don't be silly, its not a tweed jacket. thats at the dry cleaners.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Tweed jackets = the new must have item for the London clubber?

Chill out areas reeking of pipe tobacco?
Stuffed wild game on the walls of Fabric?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

PLUR!

Jerry The Nipper (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Now you've lost me...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i think Jarvis pioneered clubbing in tweed several years prior

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wandering round central London job-hunting today. In a suit. And a lime-green shirt.

And I might be along for this, though I think the parents may want me home...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

We are your parents, Mr Swygart.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

and will dave q make an appaerance and sing us some donna summer?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Corps is mother. Corps is father.

kate, Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Corps is at Camp Granada?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

*notes down "Camp Granada" to sing tonight*

Kate, also, there are probably going to be a fair number of us so the group'll hardly be much reduced when people are away singing. Though obviously I require y'all to come and cheer and \m/ me while I'm doing my turn, natch.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oh no, loads of people are turning up, oh no...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Kate, it's quite easy to avoid the karaoke. Except when Pete is doing The Voice, that is. For anyone new coming, not least Nordicskillz, I'll be there by 6 in a black suit and white shirt, and my photo is on my profile here.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to ask Pete if he will send this message to the cute girl who is working in the SOAS shop today -----> " Hi. *blush* (looks at floor)".

On second thoughts, maybe don't.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

*waits patiently for the drunk report in a few hours*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 May 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'm dead fucking sober - lots of people there, a few of whom I didn't know (to those, I was the skinny kid in the suit, with the glasses), place rammed, some tramp got in a fight with security theat involved them dong some strange square dance with one of the outdoor table and chair sets, waltzing violently up and down the front of the pub.

The Student socialists protest marched past, and were generally agreed to have been rather underwhelming.

I left around eight because I hadn't told my parents where I was. I get home, they'd just assumed I was staying out uptown. GRAH.

This makes me an utter definite for the next FAP, because I was rubbish this evening and wholeheartedly apologise to everyone else for my... rubbishness. Jerry, I'm sure you did Mr Curtis proud.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

not drunk either (I only drink orange juice anyway). had to go early bcz I got a meeting at 9 am (bah!).

william- i saw you but you were on the other side so i couldn't chat.

nice meeting nordicz and stevem for the first time.

toby- just finished hearing the first rallizes CDR. thanks. hopefully you'll enjoy 'strumming music'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

me drunk. had a blast - nice to meet Mark S, Mark C, Adam Nordic, Julio and Martin...didnt get a chance to speak to others but next time i hope.

you will be pleased to know j0e and i massacred 'Don't You Want Me' to great effect - i then teamed up with Matt DC for a rousing rendition of PJ & Duncan's 'Lets Get Ready To Rhumble' - only problem was we never worked out which one of us was Ant and which was Dec. i was denied Kid Creole tho, fuxors...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It was fun! I wish I'd had something to eat beforehand, though...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

...nice to meet/see everyone (including HSA!). ILX0rs in real life! in 3-D! With Robert Altman-style overlapping dialogue!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm dying

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

but yes it was ACES and it was lovely to meet so many of you

shame I never got to do "Like a Prayer" tho

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I also the enjoyed the atmosphere of hushed awe that accompanied Mark C's entrance!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry I had to put in the briefest of appearances... found out that yes, indeed, HSA expected me to accompany him to the Soundart Thing at the ICA. So I came by for exactly one drink, found myself chatting to someone who turned out to be Nordicskilz, and then the random tramp incident - it was very funny, unintentionally so, because he kept picking up chairs to attack the bouncer with and the bouncer kept grabbing them away until the bouncer had a chair under each arm, and then the tramp grabbed another chair and ran off.

And then HSA arrived to drag me away (slightly disturbed to find me drinking with EIGHTEEN BOYS from the INTERNET but pleased that he managed to drag me away) and we went to the ICA to listen to sound recordings of sheep shearing. You think I'm kidding?

But, erm yes. I wish I'd stayed. It looked like it was going to be a fun one! And HSA wants to come to the next FAP! (I think Mark S. really impressed him with the bear story.) Ha ha! Mark S. embarrassing me by telling HSA "Oh, BTW, I have that PICTURE you are looking for in the archive!" and instead of being mad, HSA asked "Oh, you have access to the archives? Can you find the picture of my KITTY that I gave them?"

Ace. I just wish I didn't have such a hangover.

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I can verify the above kitty anecdote.

Adam Nordic

Hush! ;)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, that was good. glad i left when i did, cos i managed to get into work by 9 without a hangover. also i was dead on my feet, as i'm sure was obvious.

wish i'd stayed around for "let's get ready to rumble". don't you want me was fun, though. some good performances from the nipper, too (oh, and stevie - bizarrely enough "anagrams" is in imperial's (tiny) fiction library, so i'll be reading it over the weekend).

toby (tsg20), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

toast and coke are so the best things ever

apologies to those people who I didn't get to speak to, my manners go out of the window when I'm drunk

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

toast and coke are so the best things ever

You're too decadent for words, j0e.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Truly I live the life of a footballer's wife.

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah it was alright, sorry i turned up so late, i struggle to get out before 930 at moment. im not so into the karaoke but lets get ready to rumble was pretty good. over the system there was roy davis jr gabriel, and i was well impressed, i thought it was a karaoke choice, i'd like to see someone do that one.

also, whoever did chesney hawkes i am the one and only, i thought it was Nirvana and not chesney...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed Gareth???

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth didn't turn up til 10...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i think Tom stole the show with 'fucking Vienna' possibly...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Good to meet stevem and j0e, though I'm sad Nordy left before I could say hello. Most XY-chromosomed FAP evah!

Hushed awe? I'm pretty sure that was because as I walked in the door, the tramp had just picked up a metal chair and everyone inside was about to be showered with shrapnel...

Nice to think people were entranced by my entrance (DO YOU SEE?) though... But were they as entranced by my Spice Girls? Um, no.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 2 May 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo, where was the girls at?

I've just come into the office on my day off to check my email and the Interweb? How fucking sad is that?

It was a grebt night - nice to meet Nordic and the HSA. I had no idea how ludicrous the words to Lets Get Ready To Rhumble actually were.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I am disappointed that there have only been two people commenting on HSA! I promised him that there would be GOSSIPING about him today, about which he was very excited. So come on, please. Comment about his handsomeness and his artisticness and his, erm, soundness, please!

Phwoar, etc.!

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

wo, hold up a second kate, you're got a boyfriend now?!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem, have you been asleep for the past two months?

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

muahaha....i just missed you and he in the pub - maybe next time...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I did say. BF saw me in the pub drinking in the company of EIGHTEEN BOYS from the INTERNET and dragged me out of there pretty quick. Not that the gender ratio at the ICA soundart thing was any better, but at least he felt like the Alpha Male there, or something... ;-)

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i didnt even notice the stupidly high male ratio last night (but then isnt that like a reflection of this board anyway?) until carsmile pointed out no women in the pub at all were going up to sing (i think 1 did in the end but god knows) - this totally sucks btw, as girls are rather good, in general...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, girls are great!

I'm sad Nordy left before I could say hello

Aaah, Mark C, that's really sweet! You like just like your pictures! ;)

I really liked all the people I spoke to. I am sorry Toby, Tom, Steve, Mrs Steve, Pinefox, William, Jerry, AND Mark that I didn't get to talk to yous. Let's do it again soon.

HSA IS GOD'S FINEST CREATION, HE IS CLEARLY AN ARTIST OF GREAT TALENT. IN THE BRIEF SECONDS THAT I MET HIM, HE PROVED HIMSELF AN EXEMPLAR OF HANDSOMENESS, CULTURAL NOUS, AND THE KIND OF FINE BREEDING THAT I HAD OTHERWISE BELIEVED A LOST ART. In other words - phwoaar! If I liked men, I'd fight you for him. He's very tall, too. Score!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

We shouldn't forget that there were appearances from Sarah and Alix, as well as Kate.

It was great to meet Joe, nordicskillz and stevem. I'm not a viewer of Footballers' Wives, but I shall now imagine that all of the characters are just like Joe. I suspect this version is more fun than the real thing. Sorry I can't say anything of use about your Joe, Kate, but we didn't really talk.

It was suggested that the drunken tramp who stupidly and persistently had a go at a bouncer clearly out of his league, and was hopelessly trying to get in with no idea how to do so, was probably Calum.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 2 May 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Almost forgot I had this:

Tom Ewing and Jerry the Nipper are so embarrassed as their sartorial limitations are revealed.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/biondino/photos/embarrassed.jpg

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 3 May 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"You have to go home and change!" "No, YOU go home and change!"

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 3 May 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

That actually might be the best photo of our lord and master Ewing ever.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 3 May 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

He's plotting something...something big.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 4 May 2003 08:19 (twenty-two years ago)

and Jerry is his smarmy Smithers-style henchman.

"Exxxxxxxcellent, Mr Ewing, Exxxcellent! Mwahahahaha!".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 4 May 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
haha, mark c reckoned that the pint pot was a good venue.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

this was a good night. my first FAP.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

the end of innocence...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

It was a great venue, at one point. My first FAP (not this one tho I think)!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

never liked the pub itself - people only went there for karaoke+late-ish closing innit

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

What happened to Ken's idea to hire out one or more of those karaoke booths?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

erm.. working on it :)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)
