Another good place is the one on Lisle Street owned by the fishmonger family. Ask at the fish stall, they'll send you over.

Thanks to this thread, I was such a pregnant woman yesterday... I can't believe how much I ate. I haven't eaten that much in years. Philadelphia Cream Cheese

My father and I used to eat Philadelphia Cream Cheese by the slice. We'd buy one of those bricks of cream cheese, the type wrapped in easily torn and obviously ineffective foil, and dig in with butter knives. Slice, gulp. Slice, gulp. The stuff was so slippery and smooth, so cool as it oozed down my throat, that I sometimes didn't chew. We laughed as we ate, our cream-cheese-covered teeth glowing and bulbous. It wasn't until seventh grade, when I mentioned this to a friend, that I discovered that the world does not eat cream cheese by the slice. In fact, the world thinks that eating cream cheese by the slice is disgusting. Who knew?

I don't think so but I know they do have a mail-order service! It's ridiculously expensive since it has to be kept refrigerated/frozen.

re: pineapple upside-down cake: i've never had one, either, but it's something i'd like to try. i'm sure my gran's better homes and gardens spiral-bound cookbook has a good recipe. i think this was a dessert mentioned frequently in old movies/tv shows (see also: icebox cake).
