The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 5 September 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo! Being able to talk to people again. Intoxicating!

I am 25, I work in a language library and am starting an Information Studies MA next month. I live with Matt in Brighton and we are moving house on Tuesday. Yay!

Archel (Archel), Friday, 5 September 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

you are the only ilx person i have met in person, ( in the midst of much dishevellement moving house ).

donna (donna), Friday, 5 September 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

julio. 24. student. have a younger brother too but i like to torment him with my free jazz records ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 5 September 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't remember if I did one of these when I first came here... may have skipped it if the thread was big, I dunno.

I'm Trayce, I'm 32, I work in IT at a large multinational ISP doing fairly dull admin/tech work, the beauty of the job is I have hands on all day access to a high speed internet pipe and next to no restrictions (apart from chat like irc heh). I like to think I'm a writer, though I've only had 2 poems published for money in small literary journals (laziness really - Im sure I could get more if I actually sent work places!). Im accused of being a goth but I hate goth music, so I really don't know why. Indiechick would be more accurate. I live in Melbourne which is the best city in the world, so there.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 5 September 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Richard, 27. Increasingly grumpy old man. Computer programmer by trade. Bisexual. Very single. Likes beer a bit too much, and cheese more than is strictly healthy. Standard issue liberal socialist. Yorkshireman by birth, Londoner by choice. Recovering indiekid who still does a bit of djing and gig promoting on the side.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 5 September 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, ''Recovering indiekid''.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 5 September 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed, unemployed 23, but have been 33 since age 12. Bourgeois Libertarian Socialist hippy type, smelly hair, wants job on railways. Currently perfecting an as yet unnamed drink which is a mixture of vodka and dry sherry in martini proportions, could do with a bottle of gin to see if it works that way too.

Ed (dali), Friday, 5 September 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna, 24, born in Wolverhampton, but I feel I really should have started out in north London where I am now. Journalist, cocktail socialist, collector of clothing and magazines, electroclash/ garage rock apologist, short redhead.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 5 September 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

richard, twenty-two, glasgow, architecture student again, sad inside, likes jokes.

Mark, 32, born in London, live in Oxford, work in publishing, brown hair.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 5 September 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Toby, 23, mathematician, alternating between loving and hating it as I try to write up my PhD and get a postdoc. Moving away from beer drinking because it gives me hangovers, and consequently from pubs to bars. Completely in love with (north) London. Own far too many books/mp3s/bottles of spirits. Liberal socialist. Most annoying habits are apparently droning on about tube routes and getting up from the table every two minutes during dinner to grab books off the shelves to find substantiating quotes.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 5 September 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s, ancient of days, perverse of politics, currently waiting to hear if book(let) proposal is accepted, at which point will obviously have to stop posting and get on with book!!

why is everybody laughing?

mark s (mark s), Friday, 5 September 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't post here much. Some time ago I lost the plot and contemplated introducing a wonder woman theme to my sexual relationship. In an unrelated incident, my girlfriend and I split not long after. It was probably for the best. In my spare time I enjoy bottling things up and feeling angry with people. My favourite telly programme is Misomer Murders.

Badger (Badger), Friday, 5 September 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, 21 (only just, still in denial about elderliness), student, future journalist, Cardiff but currently in London for Times internship (in denial about Cardiff too, that won't last any longer than it has to), black hair, inconsistent of politics (spend my life crossing back and forth over the line between hard-left libertarianism and hard-right libertarianism with an added smattering of 'everyone who disagrees with me should be executed!' totalitarianism), over-obsessed with music (pop, electro or female angst for preference) and tennis (Russian).

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 5 September 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, 30, Interweb analyst and webzine publisher, live in South London with fiancee and two baby rabbits, likes pop music, vaguely leftist, enjoys a drink. Fat, dark haired, possessed of notorious beard.

Nick, 24, librarian and aspiring rural-officer, interweb music writer, footballer for fun.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i've been logging onto ilx for a while but don't really post much because you are all so funny and clever and I am not, but I'll let you in on a few hum drum nuggets of info from my life..

I am 29, live in NW of UK. I am arty farty. I work in an office all day which is slowly destroying my soul.

My favourite colour is a dark bluey purple with a droplet of yellow.

I act like a tit when I'm in love.

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

why is everybody laughing? -- mark s

Not laughing - smiling and waving, enthusiastically! :)

*'ttempts to impersonate mexican waves all by himself, enthusiastically*

Erm, hi everybody!
I'm Tiit, 43. Married, two children.
A bit late for my day job today (archaeology). I live in Tartu, Estonia. Keep doing music shows on the radio, also various music related translations now and again. But no music journalism or record reviewing any more.
I know zilch about 'puters or interweb, really. And even less about shaving.

Anna, 24, born in Wolverhampton,

I have just realised that this is a total lie, because I was actually born in Exeter and moved to Wolverhampton when I was two.

What were you saying about clever Fuzzy?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread reads a bit like a 'Lonely Hearts' column - except for where people mention their other half (i never read THAT section)

Steve, 25, NW London (oh alright - Middlesex, fucking pedants), singular, slacking for Britain but sometimes work as freelance web designer, amateur DJ, pop anorak (as evident on these boards), helmsman of numerous websites with vague notion of getting paid to do something i love one of these days, enthusiast of numerous things with a lot of love to give to the right person

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt, property journalist, 24, rubbish at football, resides Blackheath, SE London. Occasional unpaid music hack. Ludicrously parochial. I am growing a fledgling beer gut, of which I am quite proud, and my hobbies include unpredicted sex.

Hiya!

Deanna, 23, payroll clerk and full-time college student, decided to go back to earn a bachelor's in computer science after not quite so amusingly finding economics not exactly setting the local world on fire, lives and breathes in San Antonio, possibly terminally single, loves music with synthesizers, the ILXiverse's most conservative person, still hopeful, still wishing, still here. My favorite colors are dark and pastel blue, dark and pale lavender, black, forest green, and ivory.

This almost feels like I'm writing a personal ad here. I feel as though I should add, "Looking for Michael Hutchence lookalike to 'disappear' with," at the end of the above paragraph. ;)

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 5 September 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

well, my name is known all over the world
by all the foxy ladies and the pretty girls
i'm goin down in history

Wait, just kidding. My name is Nick. I am 24. I live in Richmond, VA with Sarah McLusky. But we are probably moving to Chicago. I also enjoy Law & Order. I also enjoy playing in rock bands. I work in an office. Hopefully we will move soon and I will be able to quit my job and get another sparklier office job.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 5 September 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Well i just arrived today & I've had a bit of a look around, and I must challenge you for this crown.

maree (maree), Friday, 5 September 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hello, i'm Edd, 19. i like: writing quotes in the condensation that collects on my bathroom mirror after a hot shower. i dislike: getting prosecuted by Thameslink (sorry, still bitter). I too find this place a plethora of chuckles.

chicken tonight (chicken tonight), Friday, 5 September 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

You really ought to know who I am by now. But not necessarily why I am or even if I am.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 5 September 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

hi to everyone, especially the newbies!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 5 September 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Who is Marcello then? Bit of a philosopher?

maree (maree), Friday, 5 September 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

You're right there. But which bit of which philosopher? (my hazardous guess: B F Skinner's sternum)

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 5 September 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

what di said.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Many peoples' ages are not matching up to what I'd thought.

Bill, 28, New Orleans (we will for the moment consider Bloomington Indiana a temporary and far-flung suburb of New Orleans, or imagine Bill as the pinch of gum at the end of a very stretched parabola thereof, with New Orleans as the mouth), writer (genre fiction and roleplaying games), editor (fiction and social justice stuff), painter (badstract expressionism, which is like abstract expressionism without actually being any good), cook of good food, player of bad tennis, owner of two cats, boyfriend to one girlfriend, never been to clown camp, once read a book about Iceland. Red Sox, Moxie, get in.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

tep- did you think ppl here were much older?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(also welcome)

maree - get your game on:

America's Classless Society
10 Commandments flap: LET'S BOMB ALABAMA!

xpost - I agree with Tep that you're all too young

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

tep- did you think ppl here were much older?

Both! I did think Ed was older, because he types like it (that isn't a bad thing), but I thought Sam was younger.

(I'm very bad at ages, though, it's possible that I would be just as surprised -- but perfectly accepting -- if people were to starting making numbers up. And I don't just mean inventing ages, I mean making numbers up, like claiming to be twenty banana years old.)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll never tell. Move along, nothing to see here...

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, 32, currently bleary-eyed. I post here a lot.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

O no! Too many words. Thanks Andrew. When i am sober and have some timw! :-)

maree (maree), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, 20, love of dance music (house music) kind of bordering on obsession, no hobbies except writing, occasionally for pay, and going out. I spend the rest of my money on records and clothes.

Born in Dublin and that's where I live until I can leave. Very single (though that stevems personal ad seems great).

I actually have some more hobbies I just remembered, I love cooking and clothes, when I have the money.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I like try to combine hobbies. like drawing and smoking, for example.

you should give this a go, ronan.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Will, 20, Croydon born, bred and still residing. You would have thought I'd've learnt by now, yes. Scrawny, bespectacled, yet somehow a bit taller than you might think. Employed till next Thursday, crossing my fingers I can get back into uni, and in L-O-V-E with the Delgados.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

im not sure im as dynamic, but maybe, cooking and writing?

smoking is also a hobby of mine.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Caitlin, 25. Computer geek, blonde, procrastinator. Has a cat. Figure: slim to bony. Plaited hair, glasses, bad skin. Enjoys falling asleep whilst listening to the shipping forecast. Edinburgh, Scotland; born and bred in Lincolnshire (and/or South Humberside).

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick, 25, Lexington KY USA born-and-raised, music-junky, left-handed, 6'4", daddy of a gigantic-but-adorable 4-year-old boy, if you ask any of these people they may tell you I'm a hippy, they're wrong, singer in a band, drummer in another band, house full of way too many musical instruments (from accordions to xylophones), (extremely shitty) poet/prose-writer, reader of fiction and nonfiction and some stuff that's a little of both, doesn't hold too many firm 'beliefs' but prefers to attempt to take in as many of the wild theories humans concoct as possible before death, I like movies, atmospheric noises that generally go ignored, movies with orangutans in lead roles, gettin' it on, cooking foods, camping, smoking the evil weed, doing yoga, country drives, drinking large quantities of beer, rocking the fuck out, etc.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

teeny, 28, I like being happy. I run a commercial radio station in the midwest (US) and I'm also a DJ there. I've been with my b/f for ten years and I won't shut up about him. I like music and history and fashion and food. (p.s. it's teeny because I've always been far too skinny)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

also am political junkie and feminist. ok that's all.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Tep thought I was much younger. . .*sigh* I should really start acting my age.

I'm such a usage moran normally but I think this
Austinite leaving in Dallas
must be a Freudian slip.

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Tep thought I was much younger. . .*sigh* I should really start acting my age.

No no ... (I realized as soon as I said "Ed types older" that it would sound like I was saying "Sam types younger.") You don't look 29. (Not that I'm saying Ed looks older than he ought. Argh!)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Well that Friendster pic is about 3 or 4 years old so that's cool then. I would hate anyone to see a recent pic and realize the horror junior high school visits on a once youthful visage.

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I sure remember what it did to little Ricky Schroeder.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll give the straight thing another few years yet, for my parents sake.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 5 September 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm 24, and live in Lexington, KY. I work as a Bit Wrangler for an ISP/telephone company, which I really enjoy because a sysadmins prime directive is to make their job as easy as possible. I still DJ at the college radio station where I've been for 5 years. My taste in music is all over the map, but my knowledge of music is completely insular (e.g. I know nothing about classic rock). I read all the time, but somehow always have classic older books at the bottom of my reading list. I'd like to write science fiction to publish, and now that I've graduated from college expect to have more time to pursue this. I built a theremin from a kit, but can barely play it. I've been ordering electronics components to start building pedals and other sound manipulating gear from plans on the Internet. I have recently acquired a banjo. My Dad has always wanted to play an instrument, and two years ago he bought a banjo. He tried taking lessons and got ripped off and it got stuck in the closet. I got this banjo specifically so that we could take lessons together, make his dream a reality, and bond before I moved somewhere far away.

Nickalicious is a friend of mine from way back in high school, and we found this board completely independently of one another; which was pretty weird. His son really is gigantic. The Lexington connections on ILX have been very strange (Nick, Pizza Christ, et al), and I'm begining to suspect that I am the Kevin Bacon of ILX.

Barima, 21, owner of a double-barrelled first name and a double barrelled surname, 6'2", recent university graduate/screw-up/slacker, Londoner, contradictory, occasionally silent/shy and retiring/deep in thought (and annoyingly so), occasionally loud, amateur DJ and wisecracker, single but trying to establish whether I avoid relationships or am totaly crap, occasional pop/dance writer, music programmer and artist (all hobby-wise), loves music and record collecting, Michael Jackson enthusiast/apologist, interested in fashion but not so solid on personal style, posh, loves reading, owns a big comic collection, good dancer, currently owner of a messy mini-afro but plans to shave it next week, currently amused by stevem and Ronan's male versh of 'Kissing Jessica Stein'.

I was just thinking how weird it was that we found this board completely independently of each other. Did you tell Emily or did she find her own way here too? (paging Emily)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, 28. I live in Portland, work at an environmental nonprofit, play in a band, edit anonline quasi-literary journal, and help organize an experimental poetry reading series. In my spare time I play cribbage and dream of heading north.

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

In my spare time I play cribbage

But why play cribbage when your wife...uh, anyway.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Barima next time I'm around London we should have a pint/dance, if you like. Can't promise anymore Kissing Jessica Steinisms, though Steve will no doubt be around. Since he lives in London.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave, age 29. On accelerated promotional curve leading to large responsibilities leading to large gin and tonics. Working in the f00tball industry on the non-gravy train side of things. Fears is known as football monomaniac. Knows nadge-all about music. Idle Marxist. Born in London, before shipping out to a small town north of Manchester. Now in London, living in Blackheath, SE London (though not with Matt DC). Would like to develop a hobby (Matt DC's sounds excellent). Recent haemorroid sufferer.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

steve, 29, london (via durham, cheltenham and oxford), wife (meg), pub, smokes, student database administrator, monster raving liberal socialist, indieboy (ret'd), no pets ever, need haircut and shave (and shower to be honest).

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(holds nose) yes that's not the enchanting musk you're usually sporting

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, why the hell not? I don't have enough (any) London mates into dance and I really want to go to Fabric (for the first time ever) and see the Wall Of Sound anniversary show. I'm not sure if we should invite Stevem based on what I now know of him from this thread (and I thought he was so cool and normal when we met!).

Barima (Barima), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Alfie, 32, designer/illustrator/programmer, I live in SW London, I'm not in love, I paint and make music in my spare time, I've been here for over a year but I've never really felt that welcome here due to paranoia from the thread-killing qualities of my posts, I've never asked a question although there's a couple I'd like to. I like dunking plain chocolate digestive in tea and licking off the chocolate. In fact, I'm doing that right now!

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I was going to be going to the Wall of Sound anniversary thing cos my friends are going along. I had kind of decided against it in favour of coming over slightly later in the year. Hmmm though maybe! I might change my mind. Better have a look at flights and see.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it's on the night before/morning of one of my best mate's 20th, but he hasn't made up his mind, the jessie. Obviously, I'll have to hire an escort.

Alfie, ever think that yer a threadkilla cause you're the sort of twisted guy who does that to chocolate digestives?

Just spreading the paranoia ;-).

Barima (Barima), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Aimee, 31, currently doing time in Los Angeles, but only until I find somewhere more interesting. Current prospects are New Orleans, San Francisco and Chicago. Mother of the board's other gigantic child. (Really, he's 5 and 4'1" - wtf?). I say 'fuck' far too often, have tripped over one of my two dogs three times in the past six months, and have a cat named Hep. I work in a small office chained to a desk at which I like to construct run-on sentences and dab things with white out. My paperclip sculptures are critically acclaimed, but I really want to write novels. Jack Daniels is a close, personal friend of mine. I am the owner of most of a '66 Mustang convertible.

Oh, and I surf.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, when you said "doing time", I wondered...not that, then.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

No, but it feels like prison sometimes...

luna (luna.c), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Been here for a month or so - Live in Glasgow but seem to be becoming more and more of a hermit as time goes on. My Hair is prematurely grey. this bothers me. When I do go out i like to do Jerky dancing like a wind up toy or watching people play music. Sometimes i do both together. I'm an Architect - a lazy one who does as little as possible. I'm not in love, so don't forget it. If i was i don't think i'd be here.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Alfie: A good one is to:

To take a normal kit kat, Bite the chocolate off both ends. Wrap a piece of foil over the end. Use it as a straw to suck tea through it. Magic.

Do not try this with a super duper chunky kit kat.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You can be sure that I will be trying this tonight.

Do not try this with a super duper chunky kit kat.

Why not? Surely, it's the logical conclusion?

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

That was my thought. It ends messily. Tasty, but your hands get covered in chocolate, and you get a ring of chocolate around you lips, like you've been sucking a turd or soemthing. I have pictures.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally. 23. Flasher. History student at Columbia. I enjoy the Electric Six, Yoo-Hoo, and dying my hair. I'm quite tall for a girl.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't use my real name. I'm 27, almost 28 (in a couple weeks). Unemployed. Going to Spain next week with my girlfriend. That's about it.

Martin, male, 44, lives in and loves London though originally Bristolian. Systems analyst for top university. Former comic book editor, accountant, postman, sausage maker, dishwasher, etc. About to sell my big house (due to divorce) and buy a pretty big flat somewhere, big enough to hold large numbers of books, LPs, CDs, comics, tapes and the like. Politically socialist-anarchist but of liberal temper. Having eye troubles at the moment which are scary. Fan of old soul records, Japanese art, American Postmodernist writers, modern British comic writers, Bristol Rovers.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 5 September 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

jel, 27. Rural West London. I'm not that happy, I'm not that unhappy, always somewhere inbetween. I like cricket, transformers, and rock.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 September 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Apolitical, somewhere in the centre, not left, not right. I hate chewing gum, but like trees.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 September 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ailsa, 30, married, Renfrew (just outside Glasgow). Work for large insurance company doing customer account management. Loves: Belle and Sebastian, Scottish football, soaps and red wine. Hates: not having internet access at work. I avoid FAPs and getting my photo taken, and so retain that mysterious air for most, except for the large amount of (mostly ex-s*n*st*r) people here that actually know me.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 5 September 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil, 23, Brooklyn NY - but born in Chicago. Parents from Korea. Just graduated with a history degree. Spent 2 years abroad in France, Eastern Europe, Middle East, East Asia, and Australia. Back home, broke, trying to break into the advertising industry. I live with another ILX'er, but we're not fucking. Some people think I'm nice and twee, some think I'm an insufferable hipster asshole wannabe, and others think I'm a ho. I'm not a ho, but somewhere in between the first two is about right.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 5 September 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Andy, 25, suburban Chicago. Sarcastic fuck here, but am actually really nice in person, if I do say so myself. Wouldn't harm a flea, unless he was playing the bass while I was trying to get some sleep.
Been playing the drums for about 3 years (wow, time flies)--trying to incorporate some reggae-ness into my subconsciously Bernard Purdie-wannabe style.
Struggling to find a steady job with my psych degree, and may go back to school for my Master's next year (if I get my shit together, so, yeah, probably won't). If I do it would be in New Mexico; love the Southwest, but don't know if I could actually live there permanently, so going to school there would be a good way to find out.

oops (Oops), Friday, 5 September 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Laura, 30, stranded in the wastelands of Central Florida ... born and raised in Nothern California, and itching to get back to the mountains. Happily involved with two and am falling fairly hard for a third, which should be an interesting challenge/compliation for things. Working on an M.A. in Tech. Writing, currently a freelance tech. writer/editor specializing in space program-related documents. Live to read (really) - currently have 19 overflowing bookcases in the house, which threaten to engulf all humans and critters (two dogs, one tortoise, one rat, soon-to-be one hedgehog) under this roof. I eat Cheetoes with chopsticks, burble peas, and spend time stalking armadillos and gopher tortoises.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 5 September 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Myron (except not), 22, call centre serf and hopefully soon to be student (again). Resident in a repulsive town while all my friends are in London. ILX lurker and occasional poster of pontifications but rarely ideas of any sort. Follower of a strict monastic lifestyle for reasons I can no longer remember. Was raised in Southampton (see above) and spent four years in London studenting, promoting and DJing badly AND SHALL RETURN. Co-edit the appallingly named fanzine Totally Bored (a full explanation for this name is available on request). Currently listening mainly to some CDs of grime 8bars burned off the independance recirds site. Likes: JG Ballard, reading blogs as a substitute for any kind of social intercourse, shellfish. On what used to be called the 'Hard Left'though as far as my Trotskyite mother is concerned I'm a do-nothing layabout liberal. I've been single for an extemely long time. I lost my virginity to 'Sheffield: Sex City' by Pulp and it was all downhill from there.

I'm hongry, 23, ex-student wishing to be back in school though wondering if grad school is such a good idea after all, currently semi-employed by an old man who probably keeps me around cos we have the same blood type. Lacks direction and ambition.

Admirer of athletic women (professional and recreational both). (Secret fetish of shame: conservababes.) Probably the skinniest guy here. Ironing delish etc. Of media, discrete fan, not of genres. Loves superhero comics -- current dream job involves comics. Related to Matt Groening.

Alex, 22, Yorkshirey-based, I don't have a job anymore, I start some kind of music-y course in Leeds very soon only I don't know what it involves but have convinced myself that I am 'musician' purely on the basis of this. I can't really play anything.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 5 September 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Just the facts ma'am:
Chelsea
Age: 39
Live in: Los Angeles
Born in: Wilmington, N.C.

Radical feminist (no I'm not a lesbian ;-)) who likes cooking and making things comfy. I believe the personal is political; that's my life philosophy.

I like: round things,
colors,
wine,
cheese,
the ocean,
driving, foreign languages, subcultures, crank lit: ("J Edgar Hoover Hid In My Bathroom: Shocking Warning To The Youth of Today"- or "Pills-A-Go-Go"-type paperbacks from the 50s and 60s and whenever else, the Powerpuff Girls (esp Blossom);

I love macintosh and am an astute end-user (cue geek-humor laugh track).

I love the entire year of 1965, garage rock, psych rock, and punk with political lyrics.
I also love classic country, old jazz, oh pretty much every genre.

The past: I spent many years in bands (bass, vocals). I started on guitar. still play it, but never ended up playing it in a band. One of the bands was signed to a small indie and put out a CD. I occassionally play drums these days. I produced a couple of albums and a single but they have yet to be released. I'm hoping to release one of them this year, a dronepop thing that I co-produced.

I wrote a column for LA's Strobe magazine under the name Little Miss Orbit in the early 90s, which should explain the name "Orbit", which I also used as my BOMP! email.

I did promo for BOMP! Records 92-97 which is how I met Ned ('93, Matt Maxwell ('94) and Chris Barrus ('94). I met Stripey and Donut B*** thru Ned. I used to co-run No-Fi Records. I'm currently contemplating a noise-ish boutique label, No-Fi Noisepop.

I finished UCLA (in cultural anthropology) not knowing Ned was there too and went on to finish a PhD at U.C. Irvine (where Ned was too). I spent a lot of time studying comparative world religions, though it was not my major. I still have an interest in that, and in Church history. On of my offline friends is a medieval history grad student at UCLA, and between her and Tep I seem to be getting my dose of religion.

The present: I taught sociology (culture, gender, statistics, social inequality) until I got sick of teaching, and moved on to the private sector this year, where I'm an Educational Advocate. I make sure that the parents of learning disabled and autistic kids get the services they need from the public schools, and are aware of the rights California guarantees to them and their kids. it means reading a lot of law books and talking to people who sometimes aren't very nice. It feels better than teaching because I get to make a real difference instead of an abstract one (e.g. "college is important" vs. this kid is going to get the services he needs and his life will be different because of it).

The future: I want to see more of France, Spain, and Italy. And I want to go to the French Laundry up north.

Those are the facts of my existence. I can't think of anything else you'd want to know--I tried to be as complete as possible, and I'm sure I am taking this far too seriously ;-)

Christine, 35 and going on both 14 and 58, home health aide who keeps procrastinating on sending in everything nesciary to apply for LPN training. (Has dropped out of college three times, because she can't cope with college or even high-school level math.) Married for ten years, no children had or wanted. Has generic left-liberal politics. Lives in Southwest Florida, and has probabally dropped enough clues here to give everyone a good idea of exactly where. Writes odd sex stories for alt.sex.stories.moderated and various Yahoo groups, and may be forced to go professional for cash soon. Detests commercial computer games, old or new, but loves modern IF and roguelike RPGs. Reads lots of SF and fantasy. Has started working out, and is pleased with the results. Posts mostly one-line posts about sex and food, because it takes so long to organize her thoughts about anything else that it would take many hours to type up each post. Would be at every FAP if she could. Has the worst spelling on ILX, and hopes that no one thinks that she's stupid because of it.

I can't believe that I've been here for two years.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Friday, 5 September 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

a few more narracistic lines about myself since I don't think I said anything above that you guys couldn't already figure out:

-I was married once and am now not only not looking but actually kinda of hiding from *luv*
-I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from an interdisclipnary honors program at UT-Austin and I'm now halfway towards a master's in education
-if I don't stick with teaching I'll probably become a social worker or a cop (lots of bling in my future)
-I sorta play a few instruments and have written quite a bit in my time but my brains and creativity are sucked dry by teenagers these days
-I have two kitties and 6 tattoos (including a Beastie Boys one and the state of Texas)
-I met Paul McCartney when I was a little girl
-And there is a drawing of my ass behind the bar at a certain dive in East Dallas Texas.

phew. . .no one cares that much about me. What a windbag. I'm off to see Boys Named Sue. Peace out.

My name is Mark Unusual-Italian-Surname, I live on the 2nd floor (of a ex-council maisonette in West Putney, SW London, next door to Simon and Yasmin Le Bon, which I may have mentioned before). I am the proud owner possessor boyfriend to a wonderful American girl called Sarah who has just moved to the UK and whom some of you will meet tonight. She lurks, heavily.

I am currently, perpetually, unemployed, though I was once paid an enormous sum of money to write children's TV. I'm more of a jock than I look (I look like a pasty bald homosexual), my thighs are my best feature, I travel to far off places to see Belle and Sebastian.

I'm bossy, opinionated, fall to bits when arguing and have a very short temper. Not especially kind to small fluffy animals. I don't have any tattoos, but contemplating getting the Venetian flag on my arm/side. I won't, though.

I have major issues with jealousy and envy, but I'm a good friend. I'm essentially happy, with numerous complications.

Hm, born in NYC but currently in FL (the non-Shine state). I'm not new (anymore) and have the sharpest tongue of anyone I know. Just turned 29, am full of opinions (but won't tell you unless you ask).

As I'm 5ft2 1/2, I'm assumed to be younger than I am. Am currently looking for work to return to Europe and do my Masters degree.

What else? Hmm, to know me is to be glad you did.

I´m in my fourth year of college, although what I´d really like is to take over the world and reinstate a peace and perfection that never was. I want to front the best rock band there ever was but my friends are sadly, idiots of the lowest order. Junkies, losers, poseurs, talentless, pretentious, spoiled, or just plain retarded. Yes, I am a dreamer and I have a dream. Also I am not as talented as I´d like to think I am, either. But I SWEAR I am not a bad friend. For real.

Software engineer, embedded avionics systems, none of this web design crap (I'm sure the web is just a fad). Been to a couple LA FAPs - friendly people hereabouts. Tried to teach myself guitar in high school, but didn't stick with it. Every ten years or so I tell myself I'd be a guitar god if I had just re-started learning ten years previous and kept at it rather than waste my time watching TV. Otherwise no connection to music or writing. I even find myself listening less, and getting less enthusiastic about music, which kind of saddens me.

Work in NYC as a trusts and estates/elder law attorney, though I'm looking for that elusive job at another and better-paying firm. Notorious for saying that I'm gonna showing up to FAPs, and never doing so. Also grumble a lot about my growing hatred of NYC. Infamous for my love of Zappa-music and cheesy eighties synth-pop.

Half of my front yard is underwater, and I've had to park on the neighbor's property. (Yes, I park on the front yard of my house. My husband's boat--part of a money-making scheme that will probably never see water--is in the parking lot.) There's big tire ruts there now that I'll have to repair before the water dries up enough for my neighbor to see them.

Jody, NYC, few months shy of 27. Will defend New York to the death but am entirely ready to spend the next several eons kayaking down frozen Alaskan rivers and scavenging through rotting bunkers. Music: punk, disco, Dylan, soulful '70s cokehead goofballs, melodramatic organ freakouts.

animal wrangler (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 7 September 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Rob, 31. Midwestern through and through. Grew up in small town Michigan, spent the last 13 years in Chicago. I fucking love this city. Currently seeking employment in the, uh, financial services industry. I used to own two cats, both adopted strays, but sadly one of them recently passed away. I discovered ILX about 10 months ago, when I googled an excellent article written by Tom Ewing. It's been an incredibly positive, never uninteresting addition to my daily life; but I'd be lying to myself if I tried to claim I didn't waste way too much time here. I'm often cranky, but pretty easy-going at heart. I like to have a good time. I just grilled a steak outdoors in beautiful weather and washed it down with a few Millers and I'm listening to Steve Cushing's Blues Before Sunrise program and I quite honestly could not be happier. Tomorrow the NFL season begins. I'm excited. I hope I wake up in time to watch. I love music with a ridiculous, obsessive passion.

Good news, that. Must be. For if you don't get it, then I evidently did get away with it.

John, 24, Chicago. Went to college in Kalamazoo and got an English degree, fully expecting I'd be on the road to a Ph.D. within a year of graduating, but it's been over three years and here I am, with no current plans. Instead, I play keybs in a band and work with a non-profits arts org and try to write as much as I can, including a blog about music. But I'm interested in books and visual art and film, too. And I'm obsessed with "culture," however you want to define that. Music I like: post-rock, indie-pop, electronic, though 2003 is the year I've listened to straight-up pop and hip-hop for the first time in ages. Also, I have a bushy beard.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 7 September 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

dog latin (Charlie), 23 on the fifth of october. Just managed to find myself a poorly paid job with an internet company after a year of temp jobs and searching. I've been on ILx since I was at university in Colchester doing English Language and Linguistics.
What did I get? A Desmond.
I fancy myself as a writer even though my writing style on ILx is sloppy, unimaginative and uninspiring. This is down to either being drunk, hungover and the fact that i am lazy.
I now live back home with my dad in Letchworth.
Where's that? North Hertfordshire in England.

geeta, 23. i live in new york, but i've been traveling for much of the past month -- i just got back today from visiting california. i think i say 'dude' more than people in CA, though. (i'm east coast, born and raised.) i just graduated a few months ago with my master's degree, and now i'm getting involved in lots of projects i think are cool. most of my time is taken up by working for a certain SR on a certain post-punk book, but i'm also doing some work for a new pbs documentary on music and the brain, and to make beer money i review books about psychiatry and neuropharmacology (and the odd album or two.) yeah. i like music and brains. and bad horror movies.

I'm a Kimberley with an e. Torontonian. 32. Bank office clerk, but would like a change. "Artist" Also make jewellery. Full of heart-ache. In love. Clumsy. Mean MEAN mean. Cuddly. Have sometimes irritatingly obvious breasts and hips (other times not so irritating). Semi-secretly a romantic and geek. Ass objectifier. Beer drinker. Breakfast companion.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 8 September 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Christine - I hope that you're drying out. It's been fairly dry here, so I had to fill-up the bird baths to keep the stupid creatures from slurping-up the boiled-over antifreeze left in the driveway of our red-neck neighbors.

Alex in NYC, 35 (36 in October), native New Yorker, News Desk editor for major weekly news magazine and freelance "journalist" (read: jaded music critic) on the side. Libra. Married just over two years. Ardent fan of Killing Joke and a bajillion other bands. Just recently found out that I'm going to be a father, and am now in a bug-eyed state of shock and awe.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 8 September 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i am 25 but look much younger. i am too skinny and spend a lot of time hating my hair (especially now). i recently found out out i'm 5'4 1/2" tall, but nobody beleives me. i also like travelling long distances to see belle and sebastian, but haven't done that in a while. i've been with the same boy for over 4 years, it's honestly a miracle.

right now i'm craving popcorn with insane amounts of butter on top.

Hey! My name here is Pink/pinkie/pp etc etc pretty much whatever (most people know my real name anyway!) I am a 27 year old gal, who is considered to be extremely twee, but wtf, it beats being a bitch all of the time, I save that for off the board! I live with fellow ilxor James (who has today started a new job so his postings will be limited) in blissful sin. We are currently stuck in hell (house buying chain) but are looking forward to cats, babies, marriage, but not necessarily in that order. I have been posting here for over a year, it can drive you crazy but you gotta love it!
Oh I love shoes, well trainers, & of course pink things!! (see twee!)

I'm Andrew, 28, living in Dublin, Computer Programmer. I've started a review webpage for the first time in nine years recently, and it's both a blessing and a curse. I enjoy being here, as my social skills are jerry-built over the last two years, and still a bit rickety in places.

Incredibly boring trivia: twp62yo (my email and AIM name) stands for the well preserved 62 year old, as I behave like an old man most of the time (I did not name myself this, not that it matters).

Bryan - I thought your AIM name was toffeesock once - this had hilarious consequences.
