The Fitzroy Tavern, 16 Charlotte Street, London.

Downstairs Bar, 5.30 - closing time, Friday 17th October. Music and entertainment courtesy of the Freaky Trigger Sound System.

SPECIAL GUESTS! Mike! Ned! Ned! Mike!

SPECIAL OCCASION! Tom and Isabel's pre-wedding celebrations!

!THIS IS THE BIG ONE!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Caution - the downstairs at the Fitzroy is NOT LARGE. There will be room for about 30-35 people to dance and drink down there - luckily the Fitzroy also has an upstairs to which you can retreat if the toytown techno gets too much.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

SPECIAL GUESTS! Mike! Ned! Ned! Mike!

Hey, don't forget H! He'll be flying in from Addis Adaba that very day, I think!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry H! That rocks!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

you are really spoiling us, i crush grapes in anticipation

Crackerjack!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we maybe kidnap Dan or Ally or Jess or Matos so they can come to this thing?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You must make it happen, Michael. You're the one with the motive and opportunity.

I still wish I could go -- I do have the money now, but it's one of those "too little, too late" type dealios.

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

You're also the one actually in NY to do such a thing, Mike...although in Matos's case I suppose I'll get Donut Bitch to drug him and bundle him in a sack for Fed Ex delivery.

I still wish I could go -- I do have the money now, but it's one of those "too little, too late" type dealios.

Aw. :-( We will toast you in spirit!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool! I'm taking this day as leave, so I'll be there early!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 29 September 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Jel! Want to join me at that _Lord of the Rings_ exhibit beforehand? That's the day I'm going.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 September 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

cool Ned! You're on!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 29 September 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 September 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Bump

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

lfo at fabric the night after also

... (gareth), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

!!!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

we must go, even if it is fabric

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

My wife and I are coming to the UK next year, so I'll see you then.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

That's my b'day! A fine day for pre-wedding celebrations, wish I could show up and gatecrash but I have an actual wedding to attend the following day...have fun!

smee (smee), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

it's my birthday too, Smee! Do we share it with any other ilxors?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I remember posting about our shared b'day last year MarkH! Don't remember any others though...

smee (smee), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

suggestions for Thursday people? Glasshouse Stores and a right royal ruby?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Num num.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 13 October 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i can almost taste the chutney

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

but where can we get this 'ruby' in central london will we have to book, won't it be fearsomely expensive up west.

Ed (dali), Monday, 13 October 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

probably looking at £15 a head plus booze i would've thought. but it will be the feast of a lifetime!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I await Thursday decisions with pleasure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Veeraswamy and Mela are 'moderately priced' according to this - sounds good to me. looks like Ned and Tom are def up for it so far, anyone else??

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

or there's the perhaps more inexpensive Chowki on Denman St but i have no idea what any of these are like (all part of the fun).

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually did a Brick Lane curry thing last night with friend Vinita and her friend Kathy. And tasty it was.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

that's like sex before marriage! or something...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't give me that. I was invited to a birthday party (among whom were people who knew Tim Hopkins, Mike Jones's wife, various members of Dead Meadow (who are playing on Saturday with the Super Furries at the Brixton Academy...hmm, new thread time!)...anyway, food was needed, we were at Spitz, Brick Lane was right there. Num!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I would hope Mike is - the main point of Thursday for me is to get to talk a bit to Ned and Mike in case I lose them in the drink and dancing frenzy of Friday!

I'm happy wherever. I don't mind paying central prices once in a while either, I'm spoiled living in Tooting and it's good for me to be reminded of my good fortune.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Hope everyone has lots of fun, it sounds like it will be a good time.

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds cool. maybe we should just play Thursday by ear? start at Glasshouse early as you like then see where it goes? most of the restaurants seem open til midnight at least...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

It will be a great time! But no Nicolars = sadness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Senor Steve I know very well 'where' starting early at Glasshouse tends to 'go'.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hell in a handbasket?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Avoid anyone who knows me. It's a rule I live my life by.

(Ned: who?)

Tim (Tim), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Spain, is where.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

eh muchaco, you wan' see the ruins?

chris (chris), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i have yet to lurch from the Glasshouse to the Spanish Bar (bit of a trek innit?), assuming that's what Tom means...

but seriously, a meal must be had - and a spicy one at that. so maybe we could just totter off to Chowki's by 10.30pm those who wish to, and others can stay in t'pub?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

OR have the meal FIRST, THEN go the pub (possibly more realistic despite defying official UK law, possibly)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

eating = cheating

/rugbyplaying boor

chris (chris), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

boar > boor

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

boar > beer even

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a measure of how debased my thought processes have become that I'm currently thinking "ah, good, ruin on Thursday will help me avoid too much ruin on Friday".

Stevem your last suggestion is too continental for my liking.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned: who?

Can't remember their names offhand, but one of them is a Canadian graphic designer originally from Montreal now living and working here...actually, wait, another one was the person who the party was for, Lucy by name. Some kinda music press rep? I realize this is as vague as it gets, but anyway.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah yes the delightful Sarah C and Lucy. Bless them.

Not sure I'm up for Thursday by the way, since my QNI opportunities appear to be few and far between right now. three days may weaken my resolve, of course.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay weakened resolve! And yes, I love small worlds like that, Martin and I were most amused.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I am also up for this.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Canadian Sarah when I went for my job interview 10 days ago. D'you think she'll help me get the job?

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i really hope you get that job Mark

(then you'll be too busy to post to ILX again, muahahahaha, just like me, muahahahaha)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

may I suggest the india club on the strand as recommended by the time out cheap eats guide

Ed (dali), Monday, 13 October 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

re: thurs, i would have thought having the meal before the drinks? chowki looks a good choice perhaps?

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 13 October 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth in proving he is odd shocker :)

I will come along to the Glasshouse but do not want to get in the way of chatting opps so may bog off early.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 13 October 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem with meal then drinks is that some people finish work at 5-5.30 and don't want to eat then, or go home and come back out.

The most sensible solution to me seems -

- meet at GHS
- have a pre-arranged time/place to meet for meal so we know the meal will happen
- eat
- back to pub for late beers

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

India Club *used to be* unlicenced. I haf not been in there for ages though so it could have changed. Food v.v.good though. I might just come along if it's there. Tom's plan is good - I would prob. join for meal and post-meal drinx.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

India club is unlicensed with no corkage = yay

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds great guys, have fun!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

curry craving is significantly enhanced by much beer consumption beforehand so yeh spending some time in the pub first seems the perfect place. isn't Strand a bit of a walk from the Glasshouse tho? compared to this Chowki place anyway

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I prob can't make this because I am being dragged to a fucking Fugard play, but the India club has a delightful little tuckshop downstairs to buy beer at, to get round the licensing thing.

(It's such an odd place, I love it.)

Sam (chirombo), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I met Ned on Saturday, and I can confirm that his hair is very, very braidable.

Mandee, Tuesday, 14 October 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Do it, do it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

How about the Soho Palms Of Goa, if its anything like the one NEAR THE FITZROY FOR FRIDAY ACTION then it will be great.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I met Ned on Saturday, and I can confirm that his hair is very, very braidable.

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I am definitely up for the Thursday meal, not sure if I can do Friday yet.

Jeff W (zebedee), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

and I'm the opposite

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Will be heading down there on Friday, but Thursday is The Aislers Set In Red-Hot Jangle Action Somewhere In London But I've Forgotten Where Just At The Moment.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Daddino arrives safely hurrah

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

My bank account is making agonised groaning noises every time I so much as go near a cash machine at the moment. So a curry tomorrow is probably out but I'll drop round the Glasshouse beforehand.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

So where is this Glasshouse place, then? I'm a bit of a rookie Londoner... May have to check out that Aislers Set show as well...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 16 October 2003 07:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 October 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

(Brewer St obv).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 16 October 2003 07:24 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a fantastic looking gig, it's a QNI in preparation for the ruin ahead for me.

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 October 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks - i'll come over the glasshouse fo' sho!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 16 October 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I will crush you all at bar billiards.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 October 2003 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Some strong words, Ed. VERY strong words...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 16 October 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed's only saying that because he knows Dr C won't be in the pub.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 October 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

or the runner up in the inaugural ILx Bar billiards challenge.

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 October 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

so is there a firm plan for this evening with timings etc?!

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 16 October 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, a quiet night in with sim city 4 ;o)

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 October 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

How does he know that I won't be in the pub?

Actually, I am so f@cked off - I don't think I can make it to either tonight or tomorrow. I am utterly snowed under with stuff that I can't get out of and I am feeling very rough today, definitely coming down with something or other. So unless I can wriggle out of everything, I will miss Ned and Mike and not be able to ruinously get ruined in celebration of Tom. Sorry folks.

As i said before I will be back around in Dec - in time to defend the Bar Billds title!!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 16 October 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The most sensible solution to me seems -

seriously - unless i'm missing something - is there a plan beyond meeting in the glasshouse stores after work?! i'd like to know what time ppl are going to be in the ghs until, in case i don't leave work until 7 or so...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

OK - 9 at Palms Of Goa on Meard Street for the meal.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't be at the Stores until 8-ish so that sounds idea. They do a great pumpkin curry and their Chicken livers are to die for.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be at ghs 6-ish assuming my heating gets fixed quickly; Daddino is making his own way there from wherever

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Pete I thought that plan might suit you somehow.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

should be at pub by 7, huh and rah

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be there around 6:30 and don't know any of you (except julio, although i don't know if he's coming), so keep an eye out for an confused-looking canadian in a black leather jacket...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

make that 'a canadian who doesn't know his indefinite articles from his elbow'...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 16 October 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

only crushing going on at bar billiards was my instantly striking good form against Toby - over 1500 points in my one game!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 16 October 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i think i need some practice. to put it mildly.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 16 October 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

We all do. I'm surprised I'm back at Martin's place in one piece!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 16 October 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops, should have said it was me.

Ned at Martin's place (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 16 October 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

hot damn, Ed and I lamented our failure to find time for bar billiards, but next time oh yeh

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

RUIN!

there is no way i'm going to drink any beer at all this evening. ow.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 17 October 2003 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Sigh. HSA and I got to the pub late (because we'd been off mingling with arty Finnish filmmakers watching films about blob-houses and minimalist electronic composers) only to find that everyone was going to dinner! And there were no chairs at the curry house! Wah! So we went down the street and played with death at the Rotating Sushi of Death restaurant. (I managed to find 4 dishes with no fish only with the help of the very rude and unhelpful cook) And then we went to the second pub and managed, as 2 people, to claim three tables. Hurrah! And then everyone else turned up right as HSA and I were getting into our usual row about religion, and we drank all night and it was all fabulous, and it was good to see Ned (flouncing as usual!) again and meet Mike and finally meet Andrew (The Cunt, as he introduced himself) and I made everybody buy me HARD WILLIES and then we got chucked out, and had the usual "Are we going to go to the Spanish Bar?" argument all the way up Charing Cross Road with HSA forbidding me to go to the Spanish Bar until right at the last minute when he realised that everyone was saying goodnight and going home, and THEN he decided "Wait, hang on, I thought we were going to another bar?" so we went home and he sat up all night drinking more beer and watching strange experimental videos that Finnish Blobby House Filmmaker had given him.

The end.

For now.

kate (kate), Friday, 17 October 2003 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds fab! How are your hangovers?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 October 2003 06:52 (twenty-two years ago)

(Hard Willie, BTW, is the name of a Real Ale, before anyone gets any ideas (though Suzy reckons it should be called Brewers Droop) - it had a picture of a scary skinhead and a Big Dog on the tap. But it provided endless amusement for, oh, about five minutes, asking guys to give me a HARD WILLIE.)

Hangover is bearable, but I'm slow today.

kate (kate), Friday, 17 October 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

There already is a beer called brewers Droop, it's pretty minging. I'm glad I rested up ahead of the weekend of alcadeath I have to say.

chris (chris), Friday, 17 October 2003 07:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I went home early and am consequently feeling very bouncy indeed and ready for carnage and destruction tonight. It was a good night nonetheless - nice to finally meet Ned and Mike, and Rob Bolton as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 October 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm glad I had a quiet night in, too, because otherwise I might be feeling dreadful.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

save it for tomorrow guvnor, after a trip to Spain

chris (chris), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:19 (twenty-two years ago)

A temporary ban has been imposed on me travelling to any part of the Iberian peninsula.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Temporary = until 11.10pm tonight.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

watch yer back 'opkins

stevem, Friday, 17 October 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i am quite pleased with myself for resisting Iberia last night, but i am a working man now (side-question - what was the name of that seasoned Welsh bint who had a minor hit with 'Working Man' in 1990?)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oi! I've got my eye on you, you scumbaaaag.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

And the name you want is Rita McNeill, who hailed from that small Welsh county called CANADA.

There's a really good site you can go to to find this sort of stuff out, it's here: http://www.google.com

Tim (Tim), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I should have stayed with you lot last night - sounded like a lot more fun than the gig I went to:

Would-be-Goods - missed them
Comet Gain - rubbish. totally off-key.
Lucksmiths - good, but you know... not great.
Aislers Set - OK, but not as good as the records. They were better when I saw them open for B&S.

And the sound was crap as well. Lesson learned...

Yeah, good to meet y'all. And I'm ready for punishment tonight. Give it to me straight, doctor - I can take it!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

and deny you the fulfilment of your only true purpose - answering my banal pop trivia questions? never!

(x-post)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel right as rain - oh wait, wrong vowel.

Did anyone go to Spain last night? Toby and I were congratulating ourselves on our good sense afterwards.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 17 October 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Rob my initial plan was to go and see the WBGs (who I adore) then skip off to the FAP, but the thristies struck me hard.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 17 October 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, instead of the Aislers, I spent last night attempting to unblock our sink. Then, with half my right arm smelling of turnip (which I can't actually remember us cooking... ever), I proceeded to try and do the dishes. I gave up and watched my brothers playing Ratchet and Clank instead. Then I watched QI, and contemplated waking my brothers up so they could play Ratchet and Clank thus saving me from the Howard Goodall hundred-miles-an-hour smug-a-thon. Then I chatted with Dom on the phone for a bit and then wondered if I could be bothered staying up to watch Turn On Terry and a double bill of KOTV, which I couldn't, so I fell asleep instead.

Tonight I will be joining you lot. Just thought I'd let you know what is to be lived up to.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 17 October 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

The Aislers Set absolutely, unequivocally rocked my world last night. I have a feeling where I was stood (middle, about 5 rows back) was about the best place for sound in the entire venue, as it had sounded pretty ropey until I moved there.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 17 October 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

UGGGH I feel awful and I even left you lot early to go and see good ole rock music. Tonight I am sticking to CLEAR SPIRITS in a desperate attempt for my life.

Woa-aah, we're not going to Iberia!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 17 October 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

sadly, I was forced to cancel my trip so I will not be partaking in the festivities but hope to meet some of y'all when I actually do make it to London in the next couple of months.

H (Heruy), Friday, 17 October 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

clear spirits are u + k tonight.

actually i felt fine once i got to work, which is just as well cos i'm sure i'll drink way more tonight than i did last night. the journey in was somewhat marred by my having forgotten the novel that i'm really enjoying cos i drunkenly left it in my lounge last night and having only maths to read instead.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 17 October 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to go home and water my cat but should probably be there from about 7ish.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 October 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

see u guys there! increase the peace!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 17 October 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm on my way now, phe4r me!

chris (chris), Friday, 17 October 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

You're going to the pub at 3.00?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 October 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i-i-is that bad?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 October 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

He's left work, but due to working out in the sticks he probably won't be able to get any alcohol down his neck until about 4.45, 5pm.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 17 October 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, he's probably only just gone past Rayners Lane

stevem (blueski), Friday, 17 October 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I can definitely recognize me in the one photo and that might be me in the last photo as well. Not sure though.

Yay.

FUCKING YAY.

Met Katie! Anna! Nick K and Dee! William Swygart! Sam! Steady Mike! Chris and Vicki! Jel earlier in the day! Isabel, a total and utter sweetheart (like everyone else!)! Isabel's friend Emily!

And remet Al and Mark S and Mike and Stevem and Ed and Suzy and Matt DC and Tom and Tim and Emma and Alan and Toby and Julio and Sarah and Ricky T and Martin and Lixi and Andrew and everyone else.

Oh my god you people rock beyond return. And yeah, I headbanged during "We Want Fun" because I'M THE ONLY MALE THERE (maybe aside from Ed) WHO HAS THE FUCKING HAIR TO DO IT SO GODDAMN YOU PEOPLE HAVE TO BOW DOWN. The drink certainly helped.

God fucking damn. Now THAT was a party.

Oh yes, photos taken by me. Now, to get them developed.

*collapses*

Why does this person have no head?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 18 October 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I have lost my voice. It was great to meet Ned and Mike, they are both great! And I finally met Tracer too, he's cool too! Ned dazzled me with his LOTR knowledge, and we marveled at the one ring in a lava lamp, and the weird health exhibit. It was a mad moment when "We Want Fun" was playing. And congratulations to Tom and Isabel on their marraige, I don't think I said that at the FAP. Good to see so many people. I'm listening to the best of the Tygers of Pang Tang now, then I'm off to see Kill Bill.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

cool pics. last night great fun, seemed to fly by too fast for me. usual fiasco getting home after Spanish ruin but not too bad. i fear the arrival of Ned's and Chris's photos and so should you.

hey jel, where are you seeing Kill Bill? i need to see too. and Ed, Suzy and Ned may be in Southall later so stick around for joy.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 18 October 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

AND MATT DC CROWD SURFED! IN THE PUB!

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 18 October 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

That's right! How did I forget that. A genius moment. :-)

Ned at Martin's place (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 18 October 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The headless person I believe is Al Ewing doing some very serious dancing. Incidentally, Al Ewing's tiny comic book was most excellent.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 18 October 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

He had several little comic books and one big one to share. All were wondrous.

Ed: got your e-mail and Martin and I will call here at the half.

Ned at Martin's place (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 18 October 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i was so impressed and envious of Matt DC's crowd surfing shenanigans. the only way this party could've been better is if 'Rubicon' had been played.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 18 October 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! London ILX converts Raggett to the wonder that is Andrew WK. I was amazed and more than a little overjoyed I actually pulled that crowdsurfing thing off - I had visions of a very messy and embarassing and painful moment shortly after Chris lifted me up.

Actually, Ed's photos make downstairs at the Fitzroy look huge, probably because despite its smallness we still managed to have loads of people dancing like bastards. There should be an awesome photo of Ned and Tom dancing which I can't wait for.

Does anyone else remember the impromptu chorus of So Much Love To Give as we headed out? We should've phoned Ronan then and there.

I've just got up, I ended up talking to some random women sitting near us and then testing the late-opening capacity of even the Spanish Bar. Shame that by this point I wasn't best equipped to actually *have* this conversation but still...

Very near the end of the night, I remember Anna shouting out "this is the apex of internet mentalism". I think that sounds about right.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 18 October 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that when I was standing on the stool pretending to be a go go dancer?

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 18 October 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly I missed the best part of the evening.

Ned at Martin's place (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 18 October 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i think when Anna said that she was pointing at Ned headbanging...

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 18 October 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Kill Bill in good old Ealing steve. Nothing like the Saturday morning pictures! Kill Bill was good, had a great soundtrack.

Oh, and I was right. The Darkness = Tygers of Pan Tang.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 18 October 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i fear the arrival of Ned's and Chris's photos and so should you.

Wusses;> A laugh clears the sinuses.....

CROWDSURFING in the squeezeboxes that are London pubs? This must be seen!

Clearly I missed the best part of the evening.

Her dancing is a wonder to behold, trust me.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 18 October 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazing that you actually could squeeze dancing in the Fitzroy: cute pub, tiny as hell for crowds larger than five.

So far, (in those photos) I've seen mucho cutoff heads and crap lighting. What happened to camera phones being the height of the future? Bollocks;>

Post hangover stories MUST be had

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 18 October 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I had no hangover and woke up feeling extremely calm and relaxed.

*points and laughs*

Sarah (starry), Saturday, 18 October 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I also had no hangover, probably cos I didn't actually drink any alcohol, but my mouth felt like the Trent Valley for some reason.

Got home around quarter past one to find my parents sitting up cos they'd locked themselves out of the downstairs flat and needed my keys to get back in and go to bed. I fall asleep on the sofa then get woken up by my brothers watching SMTV Gold, whereupon I realise that I'm absolutely reeking of cigarettes and booze and the first thing I see on waking up is the horrendous gurning fizzog of Stephen Mulhern. I fall asleep again this afternoon and I'm dreaming of Elton John owning Lancashire and building houses out of creme brulee. Something is probably wrong with me.

So anyway - it was a good night, yes. Nice to meet our North American chums (in the final picture Mike D is the man on the right - for some reason he decided to dance on a stool for most of the later part of the evening in the pub) (note also that when I say 'dance' I mean 'repeatedly thump the ceiling'), as well as some other people what I had not met before neither, but whose names I'm not too sure of right this instant. But you were very lovely.

Also - those pictures appear to show the downstairs at the Fitzroy as having some kind of strange stained glass window effect things, which I don't remember actually being there, but I'll pretend they were. As has been noted elsewhere, and will probably continue to be noted once the 'other' pictures get put up, it was quite a strange evening.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

only minimal hangover actually despite quaffing cider...

i feel i must apologise to Mike D for grilling him on dice-shooting (with him having no idea what i was talking about it seemed), and to all the ladies present for my foul mouth.

meanwhile the stevem vs tim hopkins great hip hop showdown gathers apace - i'm Jay-Z to his Nas obviously.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 19 October 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

no hangover at all, actually. although i did leave that spanish place early enough to catch the tube, so i guess it wasn't that late.

it was great to meet so many ILM folks, both the 'locals' and those from abroad. if i could only remember everyone's name...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 20 October 2003 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

ruin is my name.

We have photos on pooter but nowhere to host them, I think Ricky T had some maybe if he could mail me?

chris (chris), Monday, 20 October 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i can host too (plus that way i get to approve which ones go up, heh heh)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 20 October 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Congratulations Tom and Isabel.

grraham, Monday, 20 October 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

and from me also. soory i couldn't make it friday.

was this the soundtrack to London ILX this morning? i was amused to see it on the new release shelves today

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The best bit (apart from all the other bits) was watching the faces of the barstaff when they turned the music off at the end, to be greeted by a massed a cappella rendition of "Y Viva Espana".

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

oh for a dictaphone at that moment in time...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! How wondrous.

I have sent in my photos for development and *yes* I have asked for a CDR copy as well, so hopefully we'll get something to show soon here...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

cool, i dunno if Andrew has got anywhere with ILX image hosting but i keep meaning to look into setting up something like that myself.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 20 October 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

The best bit (apart from all the other bits) was watching the faces of the barstaff when they turned the music off at the end, to be greeted by a massed a cappella rendition of "Y Viva Espana".

(laugh) Classic! Too bad I missed that. So much for my thought that the bar staff couldn't be shaken by anything. Anyone wave a pocket flag?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 20 October 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

feel i must apologise to Mike D for grilling him on dice-shooting (with him having no idea what i was talking about it seemed)

I do not remember this at all, so I think it's best not to worry about it.

Now I KNOW you folks took way more photos of me gurning like an idiot than I've seen so far. Time to fight against your own personal entropy, people.

Those are exactly the type of photos of myself I like to see! (Ho ho Rickkardo there is a good Mike D gurn-foto on yr phone and I know cos I took it meself).

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Special attention should be paid to the magazine being held open by Mike D on the top photo there.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That would be the Vice Momus homeless in Japan article with a full-page ad for Kill Bill on the facing page, then?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmm. Ironing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem, it looks like you've got long hair in that pic!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, great pic of Tom!

Andrew, I had noticed your newly grown locks!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

has the 'Hulk smash! just like that!' joke been done?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Also this is the thread where we tell everyone that the music in the Spanish Bar turned brilliant after everyone else left, and they refuse to believe us.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

dam right! Spanish bootleg cover version remixes of 'Groove Is In The Heart' i recall, what else was there?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Spanish Under Pressure, Spanish Missy, Spanish something-off-Live-at-the-social-with-Jon-Carter, and Punjabi MC (not very Spanish)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no memory of this* - I contend you're all making this up.

*Actually, this does not mean you are making it up in the slightest.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i spent about 20 minutes talking to this Italian girl about The Boredoms, tho i don't think i've ever heard a Boredoms song.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it was Melt Banana?

Though she was one of the two talking to Matt during the music fest, which might explain everything.

The curse of being sober, etc.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

That is the mankiest picture of Anna I have ever seen.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Nick. I don't photograph well at the best of times, but drunk and fat-faced and holding a fag is not how i want to be seen.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Delete that picture - it's not fair!

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna, that's a great picture, you look like the life of the FAP! Um, in a good way!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I can't say I am overly pleased with most of the photo's I seem to be in (except of course they make me look like some sort of giant).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned's photos will be a thing of beauty and joy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i dread the beauty

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

How about the booty?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, WHERE ARE THE NEKKID WIMMIN PICS?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

there were barely any women, let alone any bare women

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Nonsense, it was the most gender-balanced FAP in ages. I wouldn't go to any event with That Sort Of Thing going on, mind.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

BAH

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

OK I have now recovered enough to say -

THANKYOU EVERYONE FOR COMING! We both had a great time and it's delightful to see that so many of you did too.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

How did Tom's Anti-Challenge go?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The Anti-Challenge?

My photos should be available later today or tonight.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Well done, Ricardo---they were mega clear. Though I am shocked to see Pete without a mug attached to his hand.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got my photos! And they are on CDR, but I'm not able to launch the program on my work computer to get them extracted. Hopefully I will be able to do so over the weekend.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"The files... are IN the computer?"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Zoolander attack!
