Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"she mustn't discover that i'm a trance fan" - ha ha haaaa 100% classic.
i'm sending that to all my old goth-in-denial friends.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHA CLASSIC. I wonder if my friend who has a goth parody band has seen this.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Make sure to check out the original Jack Chick tract for comparison, linked at the top of the parody.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

To save 10 seconds of searching

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha all modern goths are trance fans, they just don't realise it!

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the Bauhaus poster would have been in the original..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi-larious. I never had a goth stage, dammit. I should start now.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

This one is pretty great:

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Marcie, don't be a pussy. You are whinier than my livejournal" is thee best line.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a "personal of the day" on some website's sidebar recently that featured Kittyvibes, whose come-on runs thus: "if I could be anywhere right now I'd be in Japan, wearing a huge poofy gothic Lolita dress" wtf is a huge poofy gothic Lolita dress

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

don't ask, dude.

"HAHA CLASSIC. I wonder if my friend who has a goth parody band has seen this."

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

My favorite PANEL is of course:

http://www.epsilonminus.com/darquedungeon/dd_15.gif

Where's Julio?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha classic!

I don't know if I should be laughing though, because my mom was making fun of me yesterday for looking too goth.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

! You'd think you could get beyond parents questioning your mode of dress at some point.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

As for my favorite panel, for the detail up in the upper left corner:

http://www.epsilonminus.com/darquedungeon/dd_5.gif

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

what's the band's name? my friend andy and i are starting a goth parody band called "terror for president"

They're The Gothsicles.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

! You'd think you could get beyond parents questioning your mode of dress at some point.

It's not how I was dressed, I kind of overdid with my hair and now it is a really intense red. So she was just kind of joking with me, but I suppose it does look kind of goth.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Time to do the spider dance!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I like my music HARD and DARK, like my fucking soul!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

GRRR.

There should be a Rough Guide to hip-hop/pop videos that are goth.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

NKOTB's "The Right Stuff": based simply on Jordan wearing the Bauhaus shirt.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The essential starting point, but what would the rest be?

(MC Hammer's Addams Family theme song NOT to thread.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

thriller to thread

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

There was that Backstreet Boys video "Everybody" that was all ghouled out.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

and of course, ROCKWELL "Somebody's Watching Me"

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm...new thread time I think!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(Ok, that's not really hip-hop/pop...sorry)

(Ned is on it)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Go forth and post.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm getting "GOTHICK FOR LIFE, BITCH" tatooed on my ankle.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

forehead all the way¡

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

4, not for.

i bought a goth fanzine at a gig last night, it's rub, but it has a little furry bit on the front, which is nice...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 6 February 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, the 4 makes the sentence -- I can't believed I overlooked it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 6 February 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the first time I've bookmarked a link from ilx. Golden.

Enrique (Enrique), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

AWESOME.

geeta (geeta), Friday, 6 February 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything's here is so cliché!

poisonivy, Friday, 6 February 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I WONDER WHY THAT WOULD BE.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything's here is so cliché!

This is possibly the most baffling post I've ever read on ILX.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 6 February 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i just read the title and thought it said "GO THICK 4 LIFE, BITCH" and thought it was some sort of penile enlargement spam

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the most impressive thing is that it's actually as funny as the Actual For Serious Chick Tracts

ferg (Ferg), Friday, 6 February 2004 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree, the originals are nearly parody-proof

(Jon L), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

wow!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 6 February 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"Camp Basil Bub"

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

"Hi, Guys... welcome to the laughing place!"

(Jon L), Friday, 6 February 2004 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just reading this work of GENIUS, when the shop bell went, so I got up to see who my newest customers were, and it was 2 FUCKING GOTHS!!!! hard and dark like my fucking soul haha, it was really hard to keep a straight face after reading that, but then the male goth sez "have you got any cheesegraters?" right? so I say yes, and he says, and I quote his exact words - "I want the finest one you've got", so I reply, barely keeping it together "it's just a cheesegrater" and the female half starts laughing (NON-GOTH!! NON-GOTH!!) and now I'm sitting here feeling considerably weirded out!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 7 February 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I would not have been able to wait on them without losing it. Well done!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Saturday, 7 February 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Pash, yer a better man than I. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

DO you sell cheese graters in a bike shop? or is this bike lingo?

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

PASH'S BIKE STORE AND CHEESE SHOP

Also Specializes in Parrots

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I want the finest parrot you've got.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

And make sure it's trained to swear at goths.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I declare this a new meme.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

If the parrot can also sing like Jon Anderson, even better!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it's kind of weird but boring, our old shop got demolished when the area got redeveloped, and we bout a property w/an existing business in hardware. We were going to ditch it all, but is sold too well!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Nutty!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you have nutmeg graters?

Madchen (Madchen), Saturday, 7 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, garlic crushers as well. I got some lobster crackers in for someone last year. We're a Victorinox cookware stockist, among other things - it does actually pay to diversify (as in, I couldn't actually make a living off the specialist bikes I sell). I keep all the domestic hardware down the left side, and all the bikes and parts down the right. It's a shame (in many ways...) that Sean "Geordie Racer" doesn't post here anymore. He's actually been in my shop. Did I mention that I also fix vacuum cleaners? Heh.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 7 February 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

He pops up from thyme to thyme

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 7 February 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

This has completely brightened my drab and humdrum day.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

I heart heart heart this thread. It is the best of all the goth threads!

That is alternately horrible and hilarious.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

I asked him what was up. “This is not a costumed event.” he replied.

“A costumed event?” I said, “These people are Goths, they dress this way every day.”

Comedy gold.

Leon Federline (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

It was cold outside so he wore his cloak. I know Scott and he doesn’t own a ‘regular’ coat - just the cloak.

But Scott wasn’t given the opportunity to take off his cloak.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure that waves and waves of gothy body odor would have increased their chances of getting into the premiere exponentially. Goths exude compliance pheremones.

"Let's go pick up some guys in rubber clothes!"
"That sounds great!"

every line here has its ebb and flow.

Still love the Headhunter lyrics in the corner. I've probly said that about six times on this thread by now.

Appropriate to revive this when I just discovered THESE guys were still around.

Sounds Like: Blue smoke drifting in dark rooms, black clad girls hovering like cats, and the hum of electric guitars as immense as the leviathan.

lolololololol Kitchen Whore Records

I love the fact that they seem to be allergic to kickdrum.

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

Anyway, I have now also revived this thread too.

darque dungeon

I just ran across this comic, which is a remix of one of those fire-and-brimstone "Chick Tracts." It has a lot of foul language, and you may find it offensive, but I was rolling with laughter. I think my favorite parts are the Bauhaus logo pasted into Maggie's bedroom and when the dark-haired woman announces that she'll "kill anyone who opposes the countercultural assault of noise music." I'm not sure if I agree with the comic's message though. I played D&D in middle school and frequented a goth club as a teenager, and I didn't turn out weird.

Anyway, this deals with class in the sense of Berger's idea of situatedness, and we'll be talking more about bricolage and appropriation in a few weeks.
