OK, so Vicky and I are getting hitched on the 24th, and everyone coming over is still around on the Sunday. It really would be dumb not to have the mega transatlantic super FAP wouldn't it?

We need a place to go fellers.

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! have fun over there!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the NYCers are currently in apathy mode right now, so you'll have to bang on this subject again and again, but hey, I'll be there.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I would wholeheartedly approve of a FAP any/every night between 22nd and 29th April.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

How many people are going over from London? Chris, Vicky, Barry, Madchen, Stevem (?)... anyone else?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Jonnie, tim, pete, Mikey G, cookie, possibly Stevem, Carsmile and Mrs Carsmile. I have forgotten others I'm sure.

Some call it a wedding, others an invasion

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Glasgow, ahem. Ally C will be with me. We haven't actually booked tickets yet - should happen tonight.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I am very very excited! Are you flying from Glasgow, Lucy? I am trying to book a flight today - BA, £260. If anyone has anything cheaper or better, holla back!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Air India are about 180 quid I think - Carsmile to thread!

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark! I had a set of tokens collected from the Groanydad for return flights (American Airlines?) for £189 which I never used because it was from Heathrow. Had to be booked by 31st January - I thought you'd got your tickets ages and ages ago. Sheesh.

We're booking the whole bundle through Expedia - direct flight from Glasgow and 7 nights hotel from about £500.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 5 February 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

what dort of place should we try and have it? Somewhere small that we'd take over or somewhere big where we wouldn't get noticed?

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa. That's a lot of people.

I think most places would be ok on Sunday nights, I mean I've never really noticed anything besides clubs having events being really full on a Sunday. That being said the earlier this is done the better, since it's a Sunday night (several people I can think of who might show wouldn't be able to stay that late).

Allyzay, Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

This are British people, remember? Drinking will start at 5.30 and end at 11.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

THESE are, even...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Ally, we (me and Vic) are staying west 55th street, with lots of people in that vicinity. I think what we need is a decent place that we can get everyone together in and generally get plastered.

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it would be rad to book an upstairs room or something, if sauch things can be done in Manhattan.

I booked my flight with BA today - £260. I'm not too much of a mug, am I?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

it's the british invasion, v.2004!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

no Mark, that sounds about right, about the same as my Mum got actually.

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I say Siberia. I don't know of any other place we can go to that's properly big enough, though it's not the greatest area to go wandering around.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

haha oh, siberia.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

would my Mum like it? (doubt she'd be out with the menkos though)

whereabouts is it?

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Why not do like the July 4th FAP and just skip Siberia and go take over Bellevue? There will be porn and they will thank you for getting fucked up there. Hell's Kitchen (right?).

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

What to Manhattanites think of Fez? Seing as it's the only bar I can actually remember by name, and it's where we had the NYC Tigermilking a couple of years ago.

(NB this is not a suggestion, just a question)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Ally, we (me and Vic) are staying west 55th street, with lots of people in that vicinity

Haha why are you sorry?? The fact that you want to stay in the vicinity is a big huge bonus for me actually showing up (I'm up on 168th now and the idea of going to the Lower East Side YET AGAIN is becoming less and less attractive).

Siberia has a shitty selection of drinks, fwiw. Bellevue is much better drink-wise and jukebox-wise but also much smaller. However getting there proper early like, the place will be totally empty so we can just take it over if necessary. Bryan is OTM.

Allyzay, Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha dude, Barcode.

Allyzay, Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i got a very good blow job in siberia once, though.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I was sorry at the lack of info, not our choice of base.

The 168th? Isn't that like, in Canada?

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

El Malecon on 175!

Stringent Stepper (Stringent), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i got a very good blow job in siberia once, though.

Well that's a plus for Siberia then!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

bit cold, though.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

BOOM BOOM

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

*sniggers*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

*wrestles with temptation to fly out for this and be a nuisance*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

*cheers*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I request the presence of Dang, deeb, and Elvis T.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

What is it with Siberia prompting blow job desire? Oh, right, there's nothing else to do in Siberia.

At least I think that was in Siberia.

Allyzay, Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Siberia's bathrooms are nice and clean.
I just checked on flights. I know very few of you like me but I'm not that bad. I'll let you break my ribs!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

(I'm just kidding about coming so don't worry)

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been warned off Siberia - apparently Brenda wouldn't like it. and by the sounds of it neither would I.

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

What would you not like about it (allegedly)?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe we should consult with Phil about any good sleazy gay bars uptown, instead.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Why wouldnt you like Siberia?

Stringent Stepper (Stringent), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It's definitely far too soon to me to commit this, especially with other trips planned to SF and Portland -- I'll have to see where I stand come April. But this sounds fun! I haven't been in NYC in the spring yet.

I didn't mind Siberia but Bellevue was more fun. The visions of TOMBOT and Anthony getting down are burned into my brain.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I had it described to me as a dodgy Hoxton bar with bad drinks. Bad drinkls make my liver cry :o(

and Hoxton bars make me want to kill people

chris (chris), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

bad drinks thing is true (unless the owner breaks out his georgian vodka), but in no way shape or form does it resemble a hoxton bar.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

haha we were definitely the trendiest people there on the 4th. What sort of drinks does you liver hate?

xpost

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom got kicked out of Siberia anyway, I say it's a bad place to go. It was wholly godawful on July 4th, which is why a group of us left to begin with. I don't know at what point a bar stops being alright and starts being awful but that point came for Siberia a while ago now IMO.

Bryan you make me sad and depressed, why for just kidding? You can stay at my apartment! It'll be totally different from last time you were in NYC. You know why.

Allyzay, Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Lauren, I thought that read "georgi vodka." I was repulsed and confused as to why anyone would think that crap is good vodka. Ha.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, ick! ice-cold georgian vodka = perfection. georgi vodka = waking up in a ditch.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG please not Siberia or Bellevue. Please no, omg please, please omg, please, please omg omg. Anywhere except Siberia or Bellevue. Anywhere. Actually, not Welcome to the Johnsons either.

There's this hilarious fag bar on 59th street where we can sing showtunes with a bunch of old queens and boy hustlers.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"old queens" = my college's nickname (for real!)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard NYC is going to implode sometime in mid-March. Thats too bad. It might interfere with the FAP.

//Green Flames//

El Spinktor (El Spinktor), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I Don't Go to Port Authority

(i.e why I dislike Siberia)

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

You went to college at a hilarious fag bar, Tad? See Ally, that's why I'm not gonna come to the FAP. No one needs to put up with my stupid shit!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Fucks sake, Bryan, go to NYC. I can't, so you have to.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

bryan, didnt i already tell you that you need a new schtick?

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm serious!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

phil, I'll go sing showtunes with you.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway, I'm completely derailing this thread. I probably won't be able to come anyway though I do hope to get back there sometime soon.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX rarely suffers from thread derailing...i think we'll manage.

El Spinktor (El Spinktor), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, i was just kidding about the showtunes. what sort of fag do you think i am?

well, unless chris & vicky want to.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 5 February 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan, I insist you come. And I mean come.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I just discovered that I can fly round trip from Minneapolis for $250 CDN. This makes it awfully tempting. I'll have to think about it.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm gonna try to make this myself. I've been meaning to visit NYC again. rockity rock rock.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

We will be sippin' on gin and juice Anthony if I make this. Can't pick you up this time, though. Sorry about that!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I was totally planning on the bus anyhow. I might visit some friends in Philly on the way. Hmmm...when was the last time there was a FAPadelphia?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Massive ILX FAP!!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX clearly needs to hop into Dr. Teeth's Technicolor Mystery Machine and FAP Across America.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Or Tap Into America, but that's a bad omen.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think it's so much a bad omen as much as "Tap Into America" would look shitty on promotional merchandise. I'd rather have a FAP loofah (sic?) than a Tap loofah.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 5 February 2004 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, and considering the alcohol intake of some ILXors, "tap" may be quite appropriate.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 5 February 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy Jesus Shit and Christ

TOMBOT, Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought about this over lunch and I think I'm gonna try to make it. I'd need a couch for a couple of nights, though.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds like fun, you should definitely go Bryan.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It'd be nice if some other Canadians would go to this one.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Sean has to come or I can't make fun of him and his culinary habits.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you even get litre bottles of maple syrup down there? Or back bacon? I don't see how I can possibly attend, because if I can't chug my syrup and eat my back bacon on a regular basis, I get cranky, eh.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, we've booked. There's no escaping us. We're coming 21st to 28th now because we could get direct flights for the same price as we'd have paid to change in Dublin if we came the next day.

Hurrah!

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like The Muppets Take Manhattan!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG Inc. must be falling behind in the molding business.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

First we take Manhattan. Then we take Berlin.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 5 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm Your ILXor"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

are you going to visit, too, nicole?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 5 February 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know -- I'd definitely like to, but whenever I talk about doing something like this I never end up having the time and/or money. But I will look into it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 5 February 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

YAY!!!!!!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone host me for a night?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

We can't go to FAO Schwarz though so we might as well just call the whole thing off right this second :(

xpost oh phil. I'm moving into university housing, not a proper dorm. I still say there are no cute jewish lit majors at Columbia anyway, I have seen none of them.

Allyzay, Friday, 6 February 2004 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

First: congrats, Chris/Vic! (Happy occasions happen the one week I'm not around....)

Second: Can I send cyber-flowers, in lieu of throwing rice? (I'm too far, location-wise, to give you the real thing)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

April in NY sucks. I hate you all.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Any time of the year in NY sucks dude.

Allyzay, Friday, 6 February 2004 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

you're not looking hard enough, ally. (for the cute jews)

but i thought fao schwartz got some last minute funding and is staying open?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it? What is this 1am bar thing you brought up on my moving thread, btw??

Allyzay, Friday, 6 February 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know -- I'd definitely like to, but whenever I talk about doing something like this I never end up having the time and/or money. But I will look into it.

Rah! That would be very fun. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, apparently there's legislation being introduced that bars/restaurants have to get a nightlife license in order to stay open past 1am.. and if you get 3 noise complaints within 2 years, then your bar gets shut down for 2 weeks. www.nyna.org

sux.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

that's it, bloomberg MUST GO

ihatebillionairefascistmayorsbär (llamasfur), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

And the world will sin as one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

STOP COMING TO NEW YORK

ModJ (ModJ), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You're not even there! I've never met you! Therefore you don't exist.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wondering what Mark was getting at here. Does he just really want me to go or does he expect me to get there and have an orgasm for him? Thickheaded Canadians, eh?

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Thickheaded

I think that's what inspired him. ka-BOOM!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Please tell me you thought of that joke with the Sean Connery voice, Anthony!

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

haha. shurtenly.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yesh I'm shure he did.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Shpectacularrr

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, who actually is carrying out the wedding ceremony again? Can Anthony do it in a drunk Scots voice?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

or at least can be like Sean-Sean in Prince Of Thieves and yell about how the king gets to kiss the bride?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

care to make a donation, nichole?

I would, tis the fascist billionaire prolly has more in his pockets....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 7 February 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

OK ; )

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 8 February 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
I know there's still four weeks to go, but it would be nice to have a venue before everyone flies out...

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this the 25th or the 26th (which Chris claimed on another thread)? This is important, people!

I think a FAP house party would be great in NYC. Anyone offering?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

25th, I am all over the place with dates today, sorry

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

ahem, we wouldn't really want to impose the wedding posse on someone's house either, there are more real life punters involved too.

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there a brewery that someone can organise a piss up in?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

This is New York City. We don't have houses, we have skyscrapers. Get with it, people!

There's a chain brewery not far from where I work but it sounds rather un-rad.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

un-rad it may be, but it sounds big, does good beer and may well cope with a big invasion. (and it's near our hotel)

Mr Daddino, is there anywhere else you could suggest?

I just realised, My sister and her Boyf aren't going to be able to drink!!, it won't beother her, but Matt may be more than a little vexed

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

only thing is - only open til 8 on a sunday :o(

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know diddley about NYC brewpubs. Time for me to crack open Zagat's, so this'll take a while.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

(I was not being serious, I was being Facetious.)

Where is the NYC steering committee when you need one.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't mind where i go, i'm very keen on FAPping on the 22nd and 23rd as well if anyone else is - really looking forward to meeting the lovely New York types

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, there's going to be a lot of fapping, and hopefully baseball

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(I was not being serious, I was being Facetious.)

Dude! Like I wasn't? :)

Anyway...this is the best I've come up with so far, but it's way uptown (my scene) and I've never been there.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 March 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

a bit far, yes.

What's

http://collinsbar.com/
like?

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh...wait! The actual Heartland Brewery near my job is open until 12 on Sundays. Menu's a bit foofy, though.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

menu? It's the drinking that concerns us, as you should well know ;o)

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been to that Heartland place on 51st. It was the stepping-off point for a bachelor party, matter of fact. It's pretty terrible. The beer isn't good, and it's laughably overpriced (how does a $7 pint hit you?). The one thing it does have to offer is a lot of tables outdoors, which could be appealing on a lovely spring day, but mind you, "outdoors" as a midtown plaza perpetually dusky from the skyscrapers that pen it in is a bit of an abstraction.

Is there an outer borough restrtiction? A cab back to midtown cab be split four ways, and the traffic shouldn't be awful at that time. I figure it'll cost $20 tops, split however many ways. And there are some glorious options: Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg (indoors and closes very early, but with tasty beer), the Gate (a friendly Park Slope place with Spurs regalia behind the bar and lots of seating outdoors), and what seems to be the most festive option, Astoria's Bohemian Hall, a beautfiful beer garden, close to the N train, with lots and lots and lots of space for us many revelers.

If we're limited to Manhattan I'm afraid I can't really help. But really, the price to be paid for celebrating in Queens or Brooklyn-- a taxi trip of reasonable cost and little inconvenience-- seems insignificant compared to the sprawled-out conviviality, fresh air, and cheap pitchers of pilsner at the Bohemian Hall.

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris, the Collins is a very good cocktail place, but really small. It may be the narrowest bar in New York City. Two is truly a crowd at the Collins Bar.

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

oh crap

DP - cheers mate, we'll take a look at those, and then maybe worry about Taxi for thirty!!

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

oh christ and they do Gambrinus dark - a true prince of a beer

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've tried to find drinking places for more than a few people in Hell's Kitchen, and it ain't easy. There's the digusting Rudy's, which stays empty thanks to the extreme filth, and after that... the bar at the bowling alley at Port Authority? Bottles of Negro Modelo and barbecue goat tacos at Los Dos Rancheros? I just don't know. You're probably better off at Heartland, fried jalepeno poppers and all.

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the Disgusting Rudy a friend of the Amazing Randy?

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

cousins by marriage I think

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly, I think it's probably wise to limit FAP action to one borough (which, in your case, would have to be Manhattan) since the time it takes to travel from one to the other dampens some of the party momentum. Ben's choices are otherwise stellar.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

How long to get from, say midtown to those places MD?

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, taxis. I wasn't even thinking about them. I'm not entirely sure how long it takes because I usually take the subways -- during the July 4th FAP it took us an hour to get to the Bohemian Gardens from...fuck, I was so drunk I don't even remember where we came from. God, I'm useless. Where all the REAL NYC drunks today?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

an hours travelling in London = not that long really (mind you , my view of travelling is skewed due to working in this goddam backwater)

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but we wouldn't make everyone travel an hour to get to a FAP in London (although we did get people travelling out to go to the dogs....), so I don't think it's practical in NYC.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

good point future Mrs

Anyway I'm off home now

Bye all

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Where all the REAL NYC drunks today?

suffering in the eye of a hangover. gah.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

blimey, it seems thursday is the new friday in NYC as well then :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but Wednesday is the new Thursday in London, innit?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yes yes hungover. im going back to sleep. see you on april 25

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

back to sleep with one of my friends? i'm still curious about that.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

So I got to ask one of my company's beer fiends about brew-pubs that might impress British people, and he suggested:

Puck Fair
Ginger Man
d.b.a.

I haven't been to any of them except for d.b.a. (I think) and that wasn't my scene (but what is?), but I think our crowd will be big enough to make any scene our scene.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 March 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

puck fair is really big. but it gets a lot of the after-work crowd of suit & tie guys. cute suit & tie guys though.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

dba has an awesome selection of single malt scotch and super tasty bloody marys.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

and a garden, no?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, they have one.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The whole idea is that we'll be comfortable, right? This is U+K.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

dba is pretty nice, the garden is great, and on a sunday night there shouldn't be any problem with crowds. i've never been to the ginger man, but i've been to puck fair a few times. i find the atmosphere really chilly and off-putting. they serve food, though, while dba doesn not.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ginger Man is unbearably stuffy, and for some reason it takes forever to get served at the bar. Maybe I wasn't wearing the right tie. And it costs a fortune for stale "authentic" ale.

But d.b.a. seems just the right sort of place to me, especially if we can commandeer the garden.

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Saturday, 27 March 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, cool. Shall we say d.b.a. then?

all points to yes.

I will love it to see everyone there. Love it. I hope ferguson's watching this, cos I'll love it.

chris (chris), Sunday, 28 March 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

ahem, anyway, yes. Thankyou to all you wonderful Americans, Vicky and I will be along as soon as we have seen Mr and Mrs P off on the QM2 at around 5 ish

chris (chris), Sunday, 28 March 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i am so jealous of Mr and Mrs P!

So, just browsing through the beers at dba, I notice the following which may be of interest:

Sam Smith's I.P.A.
Sam Smith's Old Brewery Pale Ale
Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale
Sam Smith's Taddy Porter
Sam Smith's Imperial Stout
Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout

Is this what is known as A SIGN?

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Not if they're $7 a bottle it ain't.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I got my invitation, today! cookie thought it was a birthday card and kept it back.

it's beautiful. I will be RSVPing.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone who can't make it out Sunday how about Friday night as well? probably nothing too heavy as will have to be up early the next day (famous last words)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, I said it was a sign, not that we should be drinking it. Brit slurping Sam Smith's in NY = Brit scoffing chips and egg on the Costa Brava, no?

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I still wouldn't put it past Hoppers.

(;))

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Which reminds me, Madchen - don't you have an email you should be writing...?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Also serving something called Ayinger Mai-Bock at 7.2% (!) Why can't we get this here?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 29 March 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ayinger would risk manslaughter charge

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 March 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 29 March 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

7.2 isn't that much more than D is it?

this place sounds acers :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 29 March 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot believe you are going to a Sam Smiths pub in NYC... maybe you should go the whole hog and get them to recommend a nearby Spanish establishment too.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 29 March 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

xunta, first avenue & 13th street.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 29 March 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish!

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 06:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I knew I had to ask my friend something, I need to ask whether her hubbie will be wearing his!

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally could hire one here, but they're dead heavy and I'm not sure he's allowed more than one piece of luggage. Also with exchange rates the way they are it might actually be cheaper to get one out there.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, Piper's Cove (nice name, hehe) in NJ does kilt hire for $110 = just under £60 but it doesn't come with shoes. That is all I can find. Time to double check our baggage allowance.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 07:12 (twenty-one years ago)

you need special shoes for kilts?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep. They lace up round the ankle. This is a big picture, so I'm only putting the link

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

chris (chris), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm imagining you saying this in a broad glaswegian accent for some reason...

i'm definately pro-kilt ;)

chris (chris), Thursday, 1 April 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, this is now becoming the wedding thread too

Gentlemen of New York, where is a good place (preferably in Midtown West but willing to travel) for a shave and a haircut? a good one, but not too pricey.

Vic needs a hairdresser too!!

chris (chris), Thursday, 1 April 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno about shave... but i get my haircut at Hoshi Coupe (19th street b/w 7th & 8th Aves). the entire staff is cute japanese girls, oh and this one japanese homo, and they generally specialize in asian hair, but i always see fashionable looking white girls and white gays there. ask for 'Mami'. shes the best. 212-255-0770. oh, and she gives you a little head massage and neck and shoulder too. $40 for men, i dunno about girls.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 1 April 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

chris (chris), Friday, 2 April 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 2 April 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, a pair of untraditional campers - very simple but kinda stylish (must check they go with suit this weekend) All I need now is a tie and I think I've spotted one, not a spotted one

bnw (bnw), Monday, 19 April 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Carey (Carey), Monday, 19 April 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

what kinda muzak hstencil? not that that's really an issue, i'm sure it'll be great. everything is great!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't this the show Ms. Lauren is promoting?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 19 April 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

this is the very same show, Mary. I'm not sure what I'm going to play yet. Probably a combination of psych, noise, funk, glitch, and some techno beats? I really don't know.

hstencil, Monday, 19 April 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

honestly I'd like to just play the first four bars of Devo's "Auto Mowdown" on repeat, but that might get annoying.

hstencil, Monday, 19 April 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Lauren should move to L.A. and pull a Laurel Canyon.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 19 April 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

that would require a seismic wardrobe shift, m. i'm not sure if i could pull off the floaty, layered look.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Gah! either can't do the 25th or can only do the tail end of it, depending on how things work out.

Anything planned on the 23rd?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i would love to get naked all over this but i can't until you're in KY

luv,

gygax!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil, do you like the padres? are you chan or my sister?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 06:27 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! I'm not going to Kentucky.

hstencil, Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

so what time is this april 25th FAP action going down? is it still at DBA?

geeta, Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

DBA around 5 or 6pm then? will most likely come straight from Coney Island (unless that ends up being a Monday thing)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, then afterwards like at midnite or so we can go to Shout and the Brits can dance to northern soul & stuff with all the kids who wish they were in london!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish that shout still played northern soul!

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

they did when i used to go.. like when i was a sophomore in college. is it not the same DJs?

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, but they've really moved out of that whole vibe.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

there's an open vodka bar at The Park for the Rambles party later on Sunday nights. like 9-11 or something. oh, but its a gay thing.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I AM LEAVING WORK!!!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

5 or 6 at dba on Sunday is ok by me, we will stop by.

Fri: are you all still doing the whitney thing? If anyone is at a loss for things to do during the day you can come to the wbar BBQ at 117&Broadway, it is free and beer is $2 and there will be live music by bands I am unfamiliar with and also, obviously, BBQ (vegetarian options will be available in abundance because college students are a bunch of hippies, obviously). It starts at 12 and I'll be there til at least 4 poss. later serving beer. I might stop by the whitney if people are still doing that but that all depends on northbound Amtrak.

I can't do anything late on Friday because I am required to go see an opera early the next day.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 21 April 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

japanther and the no neck blues band are two of the bands playing at the bbq.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

As for the Whitney, all I know is that me, RJG and Stevem expressed interest in going.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh i wanna go do that and then Lauren's event. i could be delayed tomorrow so i may just head to Pete's Candy Store (see Mint Julep thread or here). Geeta, Chris B, Pete and Carsmile have got my mobile if anyone wants to meet up somewhere in Manhattan first.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry to not only spam, but spam large...I have a bad sense of how big things will be on a web-page.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

both nights sound good - whether i come depends on a number of things including whether i can get back into my accommodation on my own at an ungodly hour and how long the reception goes on til, and how utterly ruined i am

off home now, next time you hear from me i should be inna area, wuh-hoo!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

can people who know what's going on post an updated schedule as we get closer to events? I guess that would be, like, right away...?

Paul (scifisoul), Friday, 23 April 2004 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

hey paul see http://my.calendar.net/uknyc for suggestions, announcements and stuff

stevem (blueski), Friday, 23 April 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

add an s after calendar

stevem (blueski), Friday, 23 April 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve I thought that maybe I'd have part of my Monday night available but it looks like the company bringing me in will be doing a dinner at 8pm-ish, so time will probably be tight. If you're going to be available even later (10 or 11pm) in the midtown area (around the Plaza ho ho) maybe drop me an email or something....though I'll probably be wiped out by that point.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks stevem - what time is the d.b.a. FAP on Sunday - 6pm?

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 24 April 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm gonna get there around 5, 5.30.

Allyzay, Sunday, 25 April 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

ok ILXORs - this bar cam goes live with other real ILXORs in one to two hours!

http://www.drinkgoodstuff.com/ny/webcam.asp

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

those scruffy people you see in there by 6pm might just be us...

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

scruffy drunkards

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It is strangely captivating watching the bar.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

most people seem oblivious to the cam
there's a vaguely ilxish (or ends-ish) vibe already (5:15)

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 25 April 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Should we start a separate thread for ILX voyeurism?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 April 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm, and as said voyeur, I just see me a red x.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 April 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

just got in - that was fun - mega-FAP !

unfortunately for viewers, most of the time we were at a larger table area in the back of the bar off to the right of the webcam view. beyond that there was a back tented seating area with heating lamps hanging from the top, then behind that a smoking area / garden.

towards the end of the FAP (11:30-ish), most of us were gathered in front of the cam though.

at the peak it was probably about 15 from the UK side and maybe 11 of us from New York.
good seeing & meeting all of you!

Paul (scifisoul), Monday, 26 April 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I felt too sick to go. : (

hstencil, Monday, 26 April 2004 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel too sick now

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 April 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow that's scary that they had a webcam. I wish I would've known... I would've waved hi or something.

Nice seeing everyone last night. Tonight it's Lotus, which is at the corner of Clinton and Stanton in the Lower East Side.
