london fancy a kick about again FAKA?

Gregorry Henry (pronounced like Thierry Henry?) asked

(all this football talk is making me think we need another kickaround - any thoughts, london?)

well how about it? i'm well up for it. possible clashes with the london FAGOT (FAGOTs and FAKAs fite!) it's may actually be physically impossible for an individual to perform in both events in one weekend.

any suggestions? is it bright enough in the evening yet for post-work footie? or actual 5-a-side court action with ACTUAL GOALS WITH POSTS AND CROSSBARS?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be up for after-work action.

And after work football. Regents Park?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh good call

ken c (ken c), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

If your tales of pain following a jumpers for goalposts park kickabout are anything to go by, 5-a-side pitches with astroturf strike me as a very bad idea indeed.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Love to.

Tuesdays or Thursdays tend to be good, but I couldn't be there much before 6.30.

Daniel (dancity), Monday, 19 April 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Given that I work in a suit, I am rather less likely to show for one of these, but given that I haven't shown for one since this time last year, that should not influence anyone.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 19 April 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably, Ken! It's a middle name, and it IS after Henri Gregoire, and stuff!

I'll express a slight preference for Sunday the 2nd, since getting down to London is pretty tricky for me what with studyin' and stuff, and there's already FAGOT on the first (and, like, how tiring can tennis really be?). But I'm happy with anything other than a Wednesday or a Thursday.

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Monday, 19 April 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not back by the 2nd :( would love to play sometime in mid-late May tho (16th ideal)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

shall we tentatively say next tuesday then? around 6:30? somewhere in regent's park? if enough people can turn up?

so far there are 3 (4 if gregory can make it)...

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

hello, i am up for it too. that makes 5

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I can probably be persuaded.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Tuesday at 6.30 it is. (I gave up using a diary when I stopped being freelance, but I am fairly sure i'm free)

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang on a bit, me and Daniel are the same person, so don't count us twice.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

And be suspicious when I say things like 'Daniel is so OTM'

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

ambrose, how's about dropping by someday?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I so want to come and play.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

At this stage I'd have to say a resounding 'me, too', now that I'm back from Tokyo and by then the jet lag won't affect my pounding yet somehow fruitless left-sided runs.

darren (darren), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

wahey, so that's about 9 people so far (studying/double-counting notwithstanding)? game on. i dunno regents park too well.. any suggestions for where we should meet/play?

btw i'm on jury service next week so there's a very slight chance that i'm in a high profile murder case and thus be seperated from the rest of the world, but i doubt it.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

-i'm +i'll be

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ed - i get a mobile either, tomorrow, friday or saturday. so then i will be more contactable. but this week is a bit hectic with house hunting. i hope to be looking round places ever day this week so maybe next week. well, unless you are interested in the rephlex thing on friday?

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i will not make next week as I'm in the USA, but if this becomes a regular thing I'll definitely turn out.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

alright so that's about 7 people? nae tae bad!

a note on the diary then (i wonder if stevem is still updating the calendar?!)

6:30 Tuesday 22 Apr - Regents Park.
Meet outside regent's park station? and then we can make our way in and find the nearest flat patch? I'll bring a ball.

my number is 07967 755446 if you're late etc. so far

1.daniel/japanese giraffe
2.ambrose
3.jerry
4.eyeballkicks
5.darren
6.kenneth
7.gregory?

and of course bring other people you know who want to play but don't know about this already.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 April 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you mean thursday 22nd april or tuesday 27?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

haha shit!!

i meant tuesday 27th yes!

i'm dumb - i was looking at my windows NT calendar and 22nd was highlighted and i typed it. contrary to my believe windows NT does not read minds and therefore it highlights today's date rather than the date i was thinking off. arrrgh :(

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Stevem is in NYC right now so may not be updating the calendar. But I might be wrong.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 22 April 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't make this. Lameosity is mine. Also, work. I'd really, really, have liked to, honest.

But but, I'll see y'all for tennis! Meh.

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 22 April 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

bump.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 25 April 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

the numbers are back to 7 as there will be a foreign import ben coming from that sinister place. see you all on tues.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 25 April 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

JtN:
> I can probably be persuaded.

cool. i predict at least one 'he is what is known in some schools as a fucking lazy, thick Nipper' joke. 8)

koogs (koogs), Monday, 26 April 2004 06:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I got injured trying to dance on Saturday.

Might come for keepin only.

Sean Carter (roc), Monday, 26 April 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ok.. i'm gonna bring a ball tomorrow then (hopefully it doesnt get confiscated by the middlesex crown court!!! esp after the nike brazilian advert stylee action i'm gonna do in the courtroom)

those who are coming see you all at 6:30! if late call me (number is a few posts above) or look for us at the nearest flat patch of grass from regent's park stn.

after playing tennis on saturday, swimming on sunday and 10-pin bowling + passing the 190bpm "paranoia rebirth" song on the hardest level of DDR earlier, I'm gonna be either extremely fit or really knackered. we'll see!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to have to drop out of this, I am afraid. I sliced my big toe open on some laminate flooring at the weekend :(

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Most middle-class injury evah? If you slipped on sun-dried tomato oil it would be even better.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't Peter Paphides used to do a column in Time Out on middle class injuries?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope this doesn't keep you out of the tennis, Jezza.

I can't play this evening cos the Guv'nor is showing me round 'is manor and it would be seriously disrespectful not to take 'im up on 'is kind offer. Comprendez?

(Also I have a steenkin' cold).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't come as I am still shaken after choking on a pine nut.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I banged my head on my Habitat pine pot-rack of Nigella Lawson crockery.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Was that an industrial injury, Jerry? Are you going to come over all trucker's cap, 60 a day & gravelly voice like Kurt Wagner?

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I slipped as I got out of the bath on Sunday morning to turn over a Byrds cassette that had come to the end of the side. I have a bluddy grate hole in my right big toe now. :(

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I can make this now. Can one of the above injured come along with the requisite pacific ocean organic sponge and a bucket of aqua libre for injuries and some canapes for half time.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Should be there at Regents Park tube at 6.30 or thereabouts - if not, see y'all at the next FAKA or FAP all being well.

darren (darren), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Bloody typical midweek friendly withdrawals. I'll be at the tube at 6.30. I've forgotten my mobile (why today? I never do this!), so could someone pick me up at the station - at street level, of course? I'm short with black hair and I'll be wearing a khaki-coloured jacket.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been hit by a heavily annotated copy of Adaline Glasheen's Census of Finnegans Wake, flung by an irate ultra on the terraces.

the finefox, Tuesday, 27 April 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

We have thunder and lightning in Tottenham now, so I don't fancy your chances of a rain-free game.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't fancy their chances of a flood free pitch.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shit, so we had a 5 men strong squad (ambrose, eyeballkicks, canada briggs, ken c, sinister ben), it was raining like shit but thought not to let the quality in the team be wasted, so we went to the park anyway in spite of the thunderstorm.

To our surprise, at the park, there was still these folks, who were STILL PLAYING FOOTBALL!! "Local hardcores" as described by canada briggs, so we challenged them to a game and they accepted and we played in the stormy pitch (thank god for their flourescent ball).

With the rain cascading down on us, it was no place for fancy trickery. The other team tried it but their advances were quenched by a few sliding tackles. Our route one, ball over the top tactics worked a treat and WE THRASHED THEM! Final score was 17-9.

eyeballkicks' forehead was full of mud after all the headers. he may have scored one with his eye (eyeball kicked!)

so much fun - same again next tuesday? (hopefully sans rain?)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ambrose was in particularly fine form, being in 2 places at once (also, looking at the room in my house)

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaysis you chaps are hardcore. I did my grocery shopping after work and emerged into the Great DelugeTM, but got home eventually with soaking shoes but dry chorizo.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmm - Chorizo.

Congrats to the hardcore ILE champs but doing anything in pouring rain that doesn't involve getting out of the rain as soon as possible = mentalism.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, it was 17-9 final score. But Ken, you forget about the 9-0 start we gave them.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, did you get my text, saying that the weather was going to come between me and the game? (I feel decidedly nesh now, hearing of your intrepidness.)

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah got yer txt - thanks for txting so we didn't have to hang around actually and got straight to the ahem "action"!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Intrepid? It was man against the odds, five young men battling against nature and the hordes of ugly-minded and mean-spirited locals who remained, despited the weather, the unwashed.
I have a burning in my breast when I remember Kokney Ken, a la Michael Caine at Rourke's Drift, crying "Footballers! Fahzands of 'em. Comin' over the hill," and seeing the steely determination fix his face. I knew then we would not lose. We were outnumbered, but not outplayed. When Eyeball Kicks forgot his Caledonian ancestry to rally his number with the immortal speech: "I see you Stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the Start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit; and, upon this charge
Cry "God for Harry! England and Saint George!"

I admit I started to cry. And I am not a man known for easy tears. This spirit, along with the kind of football genius unknown even to the greats of Brazil, is what will surely come to be known as the FAKA Spirit. It was like Dunkirk. Only in Regent's Park. And with fewer Germans.
Next week, then, chaps. Bring your boots and your FAKA Spirit. We will fight them on the park. Whatever the weather. Just don't let Ken near the jukebox in the pub after the game. He is not to be trusted. He is already the subject of transfer interest from I Love Soft Rock.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

were we the men? or the odds?

or the odd men?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Respect to those that made it, unlike myself who stayed in the sanctuary of an Old Street pub while the rain shat down on Regent's Park before heading to the Boogaloo to come 5th in the quiz alongside Japanese Giraffe.

darren (darren), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I made it to the quiz as well. Both could be done! (we came second, after sacrificing our half-time lead.)

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Thursday, 29 April 2004 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Boys boys boys, did you not notice that I was left behind, buried neck deep in mud after foolishly heading one of Ken's high clearances? I made it home only now, without toes.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 29 April 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

We did not notice. We were all entranced by Ken parading around in the spandex all-in-one kit supplied to him by I Love Soft Rock. I don't think it was enough to tempt Ken to transfer, but their cheerleading squad (Gladiators' G-Force, who've been persuaded to come out of retirement by the acid wash denim pom-poms) might. Ken - whose side are you on?

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Thursday, 29 April 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

*maintains a diplomatic silence*

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 29 April 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i sit over the fence, as usual. i'm semi with you guys, but also half-way there, as it were.

REVIVE.

haha, a little short notice for today, i guess, but i DO have a football and kit if anyone is up for more mud action today.

Otherwise, who's free for THURSDAY? (giving the clouds a chance to go away)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

cant really do anything until next wekk, while i get out new place sorted

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Next week is much more likely for me, too.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

okie.. yeah guess we need some time to recover from last week's epic struggle with the local boys.

i'll keep my football stuff at work on standby whenever but mark next tuesday in your diaries for footie action? hopefully the weather will be good and nobody would have broken any toes on ceremics.

TUES 11th May - 6:30 regents park tube

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

woah that came out bigger than i expected

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

If the weather stays like this I'd be up for it this evening.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ach, the sun's just shown up. Never mind.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

there'll still be enough mud for burying your face in to your heart's desire!!!!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i can make the tuesday i think, tho i don't really approve of these schoolnight sessions

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I can make next week if my trench foot has cleared up by then.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

remember it's CLub Popular the next night tho so we'll have to go easy if we want to dance to Abba, Dexy's and Charles & bloody Eddie 24 hours later

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Dancing is not compulsory. Feel free to hold court nursing a mild hamstring injury and a tequila sunrise while you regale a captive audience with your feats of the day before. It's what Charles and Eddie would've wanted.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oi, are any of you new footballing types going to come to a proper FAP one of these days? (Club Popular is a good shout, btw)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a busy life. We tend to go out mob-handed to a rather strict routine of:
Monday - basket-weaving for beginners at London Institute
Tuesday - we play the football
Wednesday - we translate ethnic slurs for refugees at the citizens' advice bureau
Thursday - speed dating
Friday - light gym session followed by too many bottled beers and a dance with the laydeez at a suburban niteclub
Saturday - salsa lessons followed by classic DVD night at one of our houses. The night generally climaxes with a fond look at the highlights of The Great Escape.
Sunday - we do, of course, chill on a Sunday.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Following in the footsteps of the great Craig David. I wholeheartedly approve.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

We're trying to get the great Mr David to sponsor our team. Admittedly, it would confuse the ref if we all wore shirts with the name 'Craig David' on them, but we'd be happy to promote his next album if he ever gets round to making one. We'll be having a meeting next week to discuss the viability of growing comedy facial hair in support of our bid.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

dude! i already have the comedy facial hair. thats that covered, i have enough for the whole team

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 6 May 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Team slogan: "All over your BOINK."

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 6 May 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

If you can sort out the cheerleading team, Liz, I think that would further our chances getting a professional sponsor.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Thursday, 6 May 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

When the cheerleaders say, "Bo!", that'll be when your mascot, the 'Selectah', enters the scene, right?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Canada Briggs is my new favourite person

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

you're in luck then, cos you can play footie with him this coming tuesday!!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

can't play, coughing

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Not this week, gents, but I firmly intend to come, some Tuesday soon.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm available, although I would like to note my disappointment that the cheerleading squad has not even had its trials. ILX is an equal opportunities supporter, so that means blokes can audition for some pom pom action. If this initiative fails to gather momentum, I think the football team will be forced to find extracurricular fun by either re-creating the bonding, against all odds, in the face of adversity - excuse me while I wipe away a tear - drama of either Brassed Off or The Full Monty. I'm favouring the latter as the former would almost certainly end up more like Kazoo Off and - what do you know - I already own a pair of fast release velcro trousers.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Monday, 10 May 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

so is this being put off for another week?!

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

dunno, i'm up for it still, and canada briggs and you are too?

anyone else? if we have, say, 6 we'll go for it? i'll text my mate ben. weather looks better than last week.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we looking at a game of 3-and-in or do we have enough people coming for a game? Ken, you are the manager. What say you?

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

well it's not raining, so i say go for it - we can still have a practice session if not more than 3 turns up.

6:30 at regents park tube?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, see you then.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

wahey sinister ben is in too we are now 4!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

guess what im gonna say.......cant make it! too much work to do this week im afraid

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

and there's 3 again.

hurray look it still isn't raining!!!!!!!!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually was doing computer work all last night til 5am, and had one hour's sleep this morning and i'm still coming, so all your excuses so far in comparison are lame.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Lightweight. I swam round the British Isles, unicycled round the M25 (while juggling sticks of fire) and still managed to climb Mt Everest without the use of ropes and I still haven't slept. I sleep once a week. When I do sleep, I sleep in a chair.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

call me when you try and wake her up. call me when you try and wake her up. call me when you try and wake her up oooooh.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

or was it "when you try jamaica"? i can't remember

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

you should try jamaica more

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

it was "call me cheryl baker".

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

bumper loomper

yay check out the weather looking gooooooooooooood. tomorrow regents park 6:30?

last week was sooo good.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to but I can't, due to work finishing about the time you're finishing playing. Have a great one and I hope to see you next week.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Monday, 17 May 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

ah well, see you next week hopefully.

i'm still going and prolly siniben - anyone else? if so let me know by txt or here etc.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

This is easier for me at weekends rather than weekdays, I think.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

yep same here

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Same here. Can we organise another proper Sunday kickabout?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm up for playing at weekends too. so if anyone wants to play weekends too then say! midweek and saturday schedules can run in parallel you know.

of course my crowded social schedule may prevent me from turning up so i'll leave the weekend games for someone else to organise..

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

and it's Monday again BUMP.

who's game for tomorrow eve? 6:30 again or earlier/later etc.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

If it was later I might be able to make it. Say 7.00 or even 7.30.

I would like to be able to do this!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 24 May 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

this Sunday anyone?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone else have thoughts?

stevem i'm up for sunday!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 May 2004 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do this Wednesday if it's all going on. Ken, now that you've been ordained as a sex beast, can you bring some of your bitch farm along to be cheerleaders? And can I borrow your aftershave, or at least let me rub my torso with your sweat-stained shirt so that I may for one night only have some ChuPheromones work their magic on the laydeez for me.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Will try on Wednesday - how many people do you think there will be?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

4 so far including you. any more takers??? ambrose? daniel? darren? eyeballkicks???????

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

right. i'll bring the ball and stuff tomorrow - hopefully more will confirm next AM!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

a quick call for FAKAs tonight then? who's turning up? and 7 instead of 6:30 if dr.c is coming?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

my phone is upthread too if anyone needs to call/txt for whatever reason.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

cant make it tonight, am playing football elsewhere (flounces off)

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, see you at 7. Unless it's going to be 6.30 - can we have an executive decision on times?

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

7 is good for me - i might head there early to warm up for a bit, but meet back at the station for 7 or something.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

And then there were two. Undeterred by the lack of enthusiasm from our fair-weather teammates, we went to the training pitch and practised some set piece moves with which to devastate the opposition next week. Our remarkable sequence of headers and volleys – conservative estimates put the tally in the mid-hundreds – caused other teams to stop their games, stare and wonder what, one day, they could do if they put the hours in at the training ground.

It will come as no surprise, I am sure, to learn that during our gravity-defying antics (“it’s witchcraft, I tells ya,” came the astonished cry from a passer-by) a 15-piece samba band danced into Regents Park to accompany our lyrical passages with the requisite carnival atmosphere known to devotees of the game at its most beautiful. As hundreds of spectators, who had gathered keen to learn from our skills (some just hanging around in the vain hope of a skills transference by osmosis) paid pagan tributes to our sexy monkeyness (thanks for your great strides towards maybe getting a trial together, ILX cheerleaders, but we’ve got the girls) a senior executive from the Nike corporation approached us.

We conceded that his terms were financially more attractive than those offered by Craig David, but Mr David did not have his garage-lite beats manufactured by pre-pubescents in a Filipino sweatshop. And anyway, we are considering relegating football in favour of baseball. So, FABA? This isn’t proper sport, as you can drink beer while you play, and a large percentage of time is spent sat on the ground. And Ken is ever so keen to release some of his Bitch Asylum into Regents Park for some fresh air and a chance to mingle with the sane.

Canada Briggs (Canada Briggs), Thursday, 27 May 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I am up for a kickabout, whenever the next one is.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 27 May 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:14 (twenty years ago)

play later to avoid the heat

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:16 (twenty years ago)

hey you FAKAs! i may also come along to this.
WARNING: my football 'skills' are poor at best. can you all handle that?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:17 (twenty years ago)

I might be up for this too.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:18 (twenty years ago)

3 sounds good actually. after walking 239 miles last week i bet i can run fucking fast.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:58 (twenty years ago)

i like jerry and mark's way of teasing us with their "might" too. a mighty partnership.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:00 (twenty years ago)

ambrose, 3pm in the pub i guess - no 5pm matches on Sunday so we can wrap up around then and then people can watch the final group a games together if they want (i do)?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:10 (twenty years ago)

I am up for this too

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm not, I'm making pork pie

chris (chris), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:16 (twenty years ago)

It that a euphemism?

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:24 (twenty years ago)

nope, it's literal, i don't do symbolism et al

chris (chris), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:27 (twenty years ago)

chris is now a fulltime housewife.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:40 (twenty years ago)

I wish Ken, I wish

chris (chris), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:42 (twenty years ago)

yeah as late as possible suits me best as i will be coming back from herts.

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:00 (twenty years ago)

If I feel fit and it isn't too hot and sunny, I might well come along for this.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 June 2004 17:33 (twenty years ago)

oops uh oh i just realsied i cant make this cos i just remembered its my dads birthday....

I will play.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

That's just what Pele says halfway through the 2nd half in Escape to Victory. Cmon!

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Rollcall...

In two minds, like a Big Gurl.

Dave B (daveb), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:00 (twenty years ago)

i'm in, and bringing 2 ppl.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:26 (twenty years ago)

gah, yes i want to play - but there needs to be at least 10 of us for a proper game, otherwise half that just to kick around or whatever

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:32 (twenty years ago)

if less than 7 we can have world cup one goalie

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:35 (twenty years ago)

If me, Jerry, Martin, (Pinefox?), Rob, Steve & Dave all decide YES, then we'll have a wicked game. I suggest people who can, get on your mobiles and mobilise (do you see what I did there?) everyone who might be up for it.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:40 (twenty years ago)

are we not turning up to the pub first anyway?

what is the plan? somebody TAKE CONTROL!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:47 (twenty years ago)

(embarrassing and crappy about-face time)

I've realised I'm in no fit state to play football today - After a punshing day yesterday of cycling and cricket I can barely climb my own stairs. So I'm not going to come, to my considerable annoyance. But make sure y'all do go and I *promise* I'll come to the next one. Sorry folks.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 20 June 2004 10:47 (twenty years ago)

i'll see people in the Spread Eagle at 3pm

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 June 2004 10:53 (twenty years ago)

someone bring a ball, i don't have one

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 June 2004 10:53 (twenty years ago)

I got up today and felt terrible, in a flu-style way, and went back to bed. I've only just got up, and don't feel remotely up to dashing into town to play football. Sorry all.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 20 June 2004 12:03 (twenty years ago)

u r all gay.

see some of yous in the pub at 3.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 June 2004 12:39 (twenty years ago)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:43 (twenty years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:47 (twenty years ago)

Godalmmit, mark.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:47 (twenty years ago)

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:48 (twenty years ago)

that photo is fuckin amazing.

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:50 (twenty years ago)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:51 (twenty years ago)

OI, ya FAKAs.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 15:20 (twenty years ago)

ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh dunnnnnnooooooooooo would like to but so damn busy. a week on sunday should def be good tho.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 12:53 (twenty years ago)

bump.

should the thunderstorms subside... FAKA this sunday?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:00 (twenty years ago)

we have played in storms before damnit. should be on for this. can we please get at least 10 people down? i can't play 3 a side with some random strangers again or i will die.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:08 (twenty years ago)

If only to save the life of stevem, I too will play.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:15 (twenty years ago)

If I've recovered from Delhi belly by then I'd love to play. Yes, I've just got back from a month working in India, and I feel lousy.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:27 (twenty years ago)

I can't make this, I'm afraid.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:45 (twenty years ago)

i can't play 3 a side with some random strangers again or i will die.

First you lose my nominations and now this :(

(I will try and make it down for this, if it happens...)

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:02 (twenty years ago)

im in the orkneys, therefore, cannot play

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:52 (twenty years ago)

If I've recovered from Delhi belly by then I'd love to play. Yes, I've just got back from a month working in India, and I feel lousy.

hope you recover in time! maybe going for a curry will help!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:55 (twenty years ago)

Yikes - double booked myself, can't play after all. Sorry!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 5 August 2004 06:33 (twenty years ago)

3 a side with strangers it is then!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:34 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Ken, but the hair of that particular dog doesn't seem a very comforting thought right now. I'll do my best but I'm still feeling decidedly queasy. I'm determined to FAP again soon!

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:47 (twenty years ago)

bump. lol wtf etc.

who's up for it?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 8 August 2004 07:50 (twenty years ago)

it's a bit too hot :(

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Sunday, 8 August 2004 07:59 (twenty years ago)

excuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 8 August 2004 08:36 (twenty years ago)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Sunday, 8 August 2004 08:41 (twenty years ago)

almost as good as

I am going to have to drop out of this, I am afraid. I sliced my big toe open on some laminate flooring at the weekend :(
-- Jerry the Nipper (jerrythenippe...), April 27th, 2004 10:00 AM.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 8 August 2004 10:33 (twenty years ago)

seven months pass...
aw the time when FAKA and FAGOT threads get revived. it makes me happy.

who fancies a bit of light hearted warm up kickabout session this sunday? it's just the weather is nice outside and i like to run about on grass.

and then the weekend after easter? (2nd/3rd apr?) who's up for it? this is plenty of notice.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 March 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

hmmm

this is intriquing.

I do love a kick about.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 18 March 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

can't do this Sunday but can probably do the 2nd

Sven Bastard (blueski), Friday, 18 March 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

come kick about hari. if you wear red, we can play in north london.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 March 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

so 2nd of april then guys??????????????????

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 March 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Hmm, I think it's about time I made my FAKA comeback

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Friday, 18 March 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

And I'm in - we need to make sure we get a quorum of at least 8, ideally 10.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

and then the weekend after easter? (2nd/3rd apr?) who's up for it? this is plenty of notice.

i migth even be in town! i need to work out when or what that date exactly is

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

I think I will finally be in line for my second FAKA cap this Sunday - um, that's a yes, then.

darren (darren), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Can't do this Sunday (Marclay at the Barbican), but I might be up for the next one, if I'm not feeling even more old and unfit than is unavoidable.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 18 March 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

We seem to be somewhat at cross purposes as regards the date. Tomorrow (20/3) or two weeks hence (2/4)? Personally, the latter suits me far better. Btw, Martin, isn't Marclay playing on Tuesday?

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Saturday, 19 March 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

The art show is on, I am told.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 March 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

This is true.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Saturday, 19 March 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

hi guys! The two weeks hence (2nd apr) one is the one that is happening. so who's up for it??

Japanese Giraffe!
Ambrose!
Martin Skidmore!
Darren!
Ken C!
Sven Bastard!
Mark Casarotto!
Hari!

who else????????

---

the last sunday one was supposed to be just a low-key kickabout for fun since the weather was looking good. (and it didn't happen in the end since i was going to be like two people in a field - not that that isn't fun in itself)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I will play.

Are we planning on Primrose Hill again? Cos I notice that at Gospel Oak, near the Lido, they have some pitches with proper goalposts and stuff. Plus Gospel Oak is convenient for East and West Londoners via the North London Line (if it isn't being erratic) - and is only a short walk from Kentish Town.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

that sounds good, as long as everyone is happy with it and know how to get there. I think I know my way (on the train.. will need to look into the bus routes)

how big are the pitches, btw? (if they're full size ones we might have problem since it's going to be much closer to 5-a-side than 11-a-side)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

This is where the pitches are. They are about 2/3 the size of a full size pitch, I think.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

i walked past the Gospel Oak Lido and up parliament Hill yesterday and noticed the pitch with net goals - there were ladies playing on it at the time tho.

i think we should play in Regents or Hyde Park - easier all round

Sven Bastard (blueski), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Regents's park gets my vote too.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 21 March 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

yay ladies on pitch!

regents park has the advantage that there might be random people in the park joining in your game (or ilxors challenge random people in park and get humiliated).

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

It does depend on just how random those people are, though.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 21 March 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

i'm hoping it's that all girls footie training squad of last year again.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

This might be crazy controversial, but do you think we could play on the morning of Saturday 2nd? Maybe 11am? Otherwise I don't think I can make it :(

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 21 March 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

!

i would.. but once again, i dunno how others feel about it .. a heavy friday night (with a couple of april-fools spiked lagers) and we might lose a few players!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

Footie's one of the best hangover cures, though.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 21 March 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

yeah right

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

hmmm i am worried that i might not be able to make it.....but i should be able to. i *might* be baleto bring 1 more person along.

god thats a useless thing to say!

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 March 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Ambros, what else do you have on that might clash?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 21 March 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

well its just that my folks might be coming back from abroad then and......i dunno. ok im 80% def.

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

alright guys - 2nd Apr, 3pm regents park?

let's meet at the station and then move to the big flat grassy bit 3:10.

how's that? times are arbitary of course, but that seems like a reasonable time late enough for people to get there and not so late that it gets dark.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 27 March 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

ok im definate. missing herbert and larry heard for this! (jokes)

3pm? does that mean mark c cant play?

i think i can bring two more people. or should i not?

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 28 March 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

oh shit.. yeah mark wanted mornings! actually i don't mind morning play either! (i just thought 3pm was easier but forgot mark's post). How's 11am for everyone then? (if not we'll stick with 3)

ambrose yes bring people! i'm bringing people too.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 28 March 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

i think 11am is ok for me

Sven Bastard (blueski), Monday, 28 March 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

11am sounds superb - and for sure, pub lunching type japes afterwards. Pretty sure Daniel Giraffe will come and can probably bring about two others that Ken C also knows.

darren (darren), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

ok 11 am

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

this saturday 11 am then guys. awesome

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

11am it is, cool. At the tube station ? Then on to big flat grassy bit as mentioned a few posts earlier ?

darren (darren), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

yup, that's the plan. call me on the number mentioned way above if anyone's lost

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

Are you in touch with Bappsy, Ken? I bumped into him at Baker St the other day and mentioned the possibility of football.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

Which tube station? I'm happy to call Ben A if you'd like, Ken, seeing as he's my homie these days.

Can we all be ON TIME please, as hanging around a tube station for half an hour sux.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

Yes ben knows it's happening - mark yeah let him know of the details. tube station will be regents park station. yes please be on time! if you're going to be late then try and find us in the park at that big grassy bit where everyone plays football (try and call me).

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

basically here..
http://uk.multimap.com/map/places.cgi?client=public&lang=&advanced=&quicksearch=regents+park

but with the circle more to the south and east (i.e. closer to the tube station)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

big grassy bit - you mean "the park"????

hahha im so funny.

rollcall?

me (maybe +2)?
mark c
ken c (+ ?)
darren?
steve m?
JtN?

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

I will be there.

Are Martin and Gazza Dave B coming out?

Perhaps we can persuade The... Pinefox.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

Giraffe says yes.

Pierre (friend of me, Giraffe and Ken) says yes.

Computer says no, ha ha.

darren (darren), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Does the PF still read this bitch? maybe somebody should email..

what about dr c?

and i'm +1 (ben a as mentioned)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

i expect to be there

Sven Basted (blueski), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

That's 8 definites, which is the minimum! Hurray!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Does canadabriggs still read this bitch?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Canada is now in Australia, I think. :(

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

aw

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if I will go to this. I would have to be a goalpost though, due to my lower back pain.

That map is rubbish, mate. There are loads of big grassy bits.

Of course, this is the beauty of London.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

PJ, you could sit at the side pretending to be Adrian Chiles, leading the studio discussion.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

i've seen PJ's fancy footwork!!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

Chiles of the Moon (rmk)

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

I have been having periodic coughing fits while sitting in an office today, so that will have to vanish for me to contemplate running around with lots of fit young people. Anything on my chest like that tends to last quite a while, I find, so I am not optimistic.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

"fit" young people.

just a reminder guys. 11am regents park station.

er.. is anyone bringing a ball? i have this one my flatmate bought but it was £2.50 from argos, hard as a nail and worst of all in a very gay red colour.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 1 April 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

I meant fit in every sense, obviously.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

i think Daniel Giraffe has got a ball - I'll ask him later. I'm plus two btw - a French bloke and a Danish bloke that Ken and Giraffe also know.

darren (darren), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

All teams that play in red R GAY, obv.

(xpost)

darren (darren), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

this is going to be the best faka ever.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

I'll bring a ball too Ken! Now that I've received your psychic message telling me where to look, so I know when and where to meet ;)

Ben Apps (bapps), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

I just had to cancel a doubles tennis date in Wimbledon mind!!

Ben Apps (bapps), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Ooh Ben, if you want a tennis date in SW15, I'm your man!

(you're not good, are you?)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

I would class myself as competent. And I haven't played for over 12 months. But yes! we should play.

BApps (bapps), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

ben, look at the FAGOT thread!!

London ILXors: FAGOT? (a tennis thread...)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 1 April 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

I won't be joining you for football - I am still coughing too much. To be honest, at my fittest, I am still not fit enough to play more than a few minutes.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 1 April 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Just to confirm I'll be there at 11 at Regent's Park tube. I'm bringing one other, who to the best of my knowledge isn't an ilx-er.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Friday, 1 April 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

we all went to football early at 11am (well.. some 11:30am ahem) for markelby, and what does he do? NO SHOW!!!

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 2 April 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the game, chaps. We should do this more often... or perhaps we should keep it a rarer, and thus sweeter, experience.

Has anyone else got a very sunburnt face?

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Sunday, 3 April 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Markelby is a no-show go-boat.

Who won? Was it good? Did any 'wee neds' join in?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Sunday, 3 April 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

mark hurt his ankle. i felt dead rough despite not having gone out the night before or drunk anything. i would probably have died of hayfever had i turned up anyway. but if we pencil in another kickabout for a fortnight today and make it afternoon then that'd suit me i think.

Sven Basted (blueski), Sunday, 3 April 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

That's FA Cup semi-final time.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

there were some small kids who wanted their ball thrown back to them but ben hoofed it right over their heads, making them very disconcolate...

what was the score???/ 11-10. it was an epic.

fr the record, i now fully realsie the immorality of my handball that lead to a goal for us. i am shocked at my own lack of decency. apologies to the opponents.

ambrose (ambrose), Sunday, 3 April 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

the finish for that goal was deadly though!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 3 April 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

The scouts would, I think, have been impressed by Ben's diving headers, Andrew (bloke in Teenage FC t-shirt)'s ability to make space before placing it deftly past the keeper and possibly my driving yet ultimately fruitless running.

darren (darren), Monday, 4 April 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

Nb: one of the above may not be entirely true.

darren (darren), Monday, 4 April 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
That was a good game. Anyone fancy another? A week on Sunday (April 30), say?

We need to find a better pitch, though. I remain fond of Primrose Hill.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

i'm in.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

i wouldn't be able to make the 30th as i'm in Zone 8...May 7th would be great for me tho i think.

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps there is some less arid part of regent's park? Not that there's anything wrong with primrose hill, of course.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Which is my way of saying 'Yes I'm in'

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

so when is it for? are we going to move from the original plan to accomodate sven? it's jerry's call obviously cos he suggested the initial date.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

May 7 is fine by me.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

er....the 30th is a saturday guys......

the 1st however....well, thats a different proposition.

i mgiht be able to make it on the 1st, if it was lateish in the afternoon. im coming down from t'mills that day. may 7th, i cant make it. may 2nd?( bank holiday monday)

right thats that all confused. carry on as you were...

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

was there any decision on this?

the possible days mooted were

april 30th
may 1st
may 2nd
may 7th

i can make the 1st and 2nd but no others. any one else?

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

May 2nd works for me, early afternoon pls

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

i think i can make any of those dates.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

can't do May 2nd but this needn't scupper things

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

Can't do any of the May days, but could do 30th April.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

My diary is so empty that any of those dates are fine by me.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

hmm this is not good. well i am a bit player so come up with a date pls
2nd mof may is most realsitic day, cos the 1st will be occupied with mega-shitbus

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Is this happening?

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Thursday, 28 April 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

Bank Holiday Monday late morning would suit me nicely. Any takers?

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

yep i think so

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

great! meet up monday 11am again?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

anyone bringing a ball? (otherwise it's going be my "euphoria" ball again)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

oh dear...i would lurve to do Monday but i'll be tied up with 'werk' til 3pm... you'll just have to do without my tireless harrying about.

darren (darren), Friday, 29 April 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

after 3 might be ok for me. or 11. hmmm well, 11 might be a teensy bit early.

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 29 April 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

3 is good. 11 is good. japanese g?

parakeet_esparanto (parakeetesparanto), Friday, 29 April 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

guys??!??!?!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 1 May 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

lets have a show of hands? please state your availabilty for the various times tomorrow

11am -
1pm -
3pm -

and then the one that can get the most turnouts will stick? then check the thread or call me tomorrow morning to confirm?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 1 May 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

ok - for me, it's:

11am, 1pm - nay
3pm - yay

two weeks pass...
June?

i am back 4th/5th

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

June! BACK IN THE HABIT

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
just saying.. like.

saturday 15th oct?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

sounds good.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

i need to play football.

michael grant (michael digby grant), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

goody. 3 already!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

1.5 a side then?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/jamiefake/moog.gif

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

the moog!

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

no more FAKAers?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

Fraid I'm away that weekend. You know I never turn down a game without a very good reason.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

oh i know.. next time though (i mean, next time if we can get enough people for THIS TIME)

so it's michael grant, stevem and ken c? we can meet up and olé each other at least. surely there are others who want to play though

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

unfortunately it's in my contract that i cannot actually run around with a ball for more than 10 minutes unless there are more than 10 people on the pitch.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:47 (nineteen years ago)

you can be the beckham in a 4-5-1 who just pings hollywood balls to people

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

I would play football again, if I still count as an ILXor.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

I would lke to join in but on Saturday 15th I will be watching football. Sadly, this is likely to be a recurring problem for me if playing on Saturdays is the thing.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

what if it's on a sunday? would it

a) affect those already hinted they may be coming i.e. michael grant, stevem, eyeball kicks (of couse you still count)

b) make it easier for others to come (i.e. tim h?)

i can do sunday too

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

I like the idea in theory. Is this in Regents Park?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

yeah why not?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

so MG, SM, EK, TH, TH and KC footie sunday 16th at regents park?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, in theory. If only Tracer Hand was still with us, the THs could take on the world.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe we could get Thierry Henry instead.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

if ed tells me what hes doing that weekend vis a vis coming to sheffield, then i can tell you that i can possibly do a sunday (not too late tho!) but cannot do a saturday, whatever ed wishes to do with himself

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to Bristol on Saturday, did I say I was coming to sheffield?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

Phone me.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

i'm still in. sunday actually suits me better. let's get this recruitment drive going. surely we can at least make 4 a side??

michael grant (michael digby grant), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

I actually will be in Sheffield

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

so ambrose is in too? that's 7 now!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

Ed, if you fancy a pint when you're in Bristol let me know.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 29 September 2005 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

i bet i can rope in a few more people to come on sunday.

oh man. it better not rain now.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 September 2005 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

i mean, actually rain now by all means, but don't rain on the 16th oct

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 September 2005 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

it has rained every time i've attended a FAKA - i don't expect this to change.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 29 September 2005 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

I might be up for this. I have to check out whether I have rugby Sat or Sun that week.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

I can probably do this too.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

that's a potential 9! this is going to be awesome

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

I can definitely come, as I think I have won just about enough national caps in the past two years. Though my club boss may not release me as it's a friendly.

darren (darren), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

I'll play if The Pinefox will play.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

that's 10! 12 if PF will play. someone should email him.

oh maybe i will

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 September 2005 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

i might be able to bring another, but can we discuss this time aspect? what of the day do you fancy?

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 29 September 2005 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

don't mind! what's easiest? i'm happiest with midday, but can really do earlier/later!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 September 2005 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

ok 12?

where?

oh regents park. so....you mean the desert that we played on last time? ;)

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 29 September 2005 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

hehe, it's going to be a swamp this time mate!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 September 2005 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

I'll play if I'm back by then!

Gravel Cybercaff, Friday, 30 September 2005 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

come back!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:20 (nineteen years ago)

wahay!

i can DEFINITLY come to this one.

but how do i get there from Victoria station? I don't know London so good.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:31 (nineteen years ago)

get the tube to regent's park station!

or there are buses i'm sure... no idea which though

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

maybe 24 back to warren street and then 27 to regent's park

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

Hari, you want to be on my side if you can wangle it - it'd be a crime to lose those looks in an unwise tackle :)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 September 2005 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

Leave your unwise tackle out of this.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 30 September 2005 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

MG, SM, EK, TH, TH, KC+2, AW+1, DC, MC, DB, PF(?), GP(?), HA

that's a potential 16! this is gonna be GOOD

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

p.s. i think hari's face is safe. he has the skills of MINANDA

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

Haha! i am better than Minanda who is a fat shit on my current master league!

Is any of you really good?

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Friday, 30 September 2005 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

i play like Ximenez

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

I am good at sending people to hospital (NB this really happened), and I am good at breaking my own ribs. Not much cop at football, though. Ally C is maybe the best ILX footballer I've seen.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

and I am good at breaking my own ribs

that is a handy skill!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

i'm looking forward to 16th!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

When we had the ILX v Sinistah game, you were good Mark! ILX were like Everton.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

who was ilx's duncan ferguson?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Doc! I was playing more regularly then, though, and my match fitness is nil these days.

Who was ILX's Arteta?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Oh I think Tim H was big Dunc. Nick Dastoor was Arteta.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 30 September 2005 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Doc, your words touch me once more.

the pinefox, Friday, 30 September 2005 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

the pinefox, Friday, 30 September 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

so....12 o clock regents park tube?

i think i will have forgotten who is who again!

i'll be wearing my cameroon shirt, i predict. its the only "sports" item i own, apart from some nike socks from tk maxx.

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 30 September 2005 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

yup noon at regents park tube!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 September 2005 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

I am definately going to come. Bought a BOCA JUNIORS shirt and some shinpads today.

but i have never gone to regents park from canterbury before so timing it might behard.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

Shinpads!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

I was threatened with a tackle!

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

Is this happening on the 15th? I may come along.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, the 16th, I see...

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

I'm quite excited to play footie. i haven't for a while.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Thursday, 13 October 2005 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

i wouldn't think the colour would be yellow!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 13 October 2005 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

michael grant (michael digby grant), Thursday, 13 October 2005 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

I might come along. You never know. Which is worse for a babd back - playing football or cheerleading?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:07 (nineteen years ago)

Doing what the cheerleaders are required to do after the game is most dangerous of all.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 14 October 2005 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

mark should know

ken c (ken c), Friday, 14 October 2005 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

Babd back? Am I on one? How's the beard coming along, Markelby? Well bushy, I hope.

argh i am ill. lets hope i am not ill in 2 days time.

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 14 October 2005 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

i've never been to regents park station before. is there a specific place to meet?

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Friday, 14 October 2005 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

basically yuou come out of the tunnel thing and then theres a sort of er....thing where you can stand about. its the other side of the road from the park. theres a sort of clearing at the top of the stairs basically.

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 14 October 2005 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

It looks like a public lavatory.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 14 October 2005 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I've just remembered I have to move house, all being well. How could I have forgotten?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 14 October 2005 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Can people just keep an eye out for me and approach me if i look lost? Also i might be a little late. will there be a waiting period?

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Friday, 14 October 2005 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

yeah probably. we waited around for a while last time. the best thing to do is get kens mobile then dump the burden of responsibility of organising things on him! :)

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 14 October 2005 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Hari (and everyone), please don't be late - it fucks things up for everyone else.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 14 October 2005 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

I might come and point at you all. Nah. I'll stay in bed.

Suckling robot at a warrior rave (alix), Friday, 14 October 2005 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

I will do my best to be on time. But i haven't yet done the journey from Canterbury to anywhere in London so i'm not sure exactly how long it'll take.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Friday, 14 October 2005 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

Ken will probably be the last to arrive anyway, but yes it is not recommended.

Who is actually bringing a ball?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 14 October 2005 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

mark you didn't even show up the last time

ken c (ken c), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

i have a ball that i can bring. it's not awesome though so if you have one bring one too. (we can then get ball boys to throw another ball back in as soon as one gets kicked out of touch)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

Ken you've got balls for all occasions! (as long as 'all occasions' means football and bowling).

Suckling robot at a warrior rave (alix), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

oh yes. they're huge, too.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

i missed my train. i might not be coming down south at all! will update tomorrow.

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 14 October 2005 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

I can't make this :(

Hari, Mark doesn't really foul fancy young winger-types as often as he says he's going to. Ally C is the best player in the world, but JtN is very very good too.

People had better turn up this time!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 14 October 2005 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

But i haven't yet done the journey from Canterbury to anywhere in London so i'm not sure exactly how long it'll take.

As it happens, my boss was looking to find out how long it would take him to get from London to Canterbury one day last week. The routefinder thing that he looked on offered six and a half hours - a five hour layover at somewhere ridiculous like Orpington, was their helpful offering. So allow seven hours, or avoid Orpington.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

What the hell! It doesn't take that long. I drove almost to heathrow on my way back to devon and it took about 2 hours (it took 6 all the way to devon though).

Apparently the train takes an hour and a half to victoria. And then the tube i dunno...maybe 30 minutes??

that sounds like a crazy routefinder site martin!

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Saturday, 15 October 2005 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

That journey planner thing often assumes if you are travelling late at night that you won't mind a 4-hour stop over from the last train to the first train the next morning. Look out for trains being replaced by buses for track work, though, especially on Sunday.

I may not now be able to make this. Sorry to be so vague. Don't bother waiting for me - I'll either be there on time or not at all.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Saturday, 15 October 2005 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

If I go I'll probably drive down and park up at Regents Park with some money in the meter, so I won't go to the tube station. Whereabouts do you think you'll be playing?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 15 October 2005 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

sorry guys but i'm laming out of this. i didnt make it south due to illness, so whilst you are playing, i will be lying in bed coughing and spluttering 200 miles away and feling jealous.

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 15 October 2005 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

looks like trains are haywire tommorow from canterbury

taking 3 hours instead of 1 and a half and with some insane changes :(

so i wont make it im afraid. really gutted to miss it!

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Saturday, 15 October 2005 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

Can you tell us tomorrow morning if this game is going ahead?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

????

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 16 October 2005 07:25 (nineteen years ago)

oh it totally is.. hari come down! don't let the new shinpads go to waste

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 16 October 2005 07:47 (nineteen years ago)

Cool. May I refer you to my earlier comment re: not going to tube station.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 16 October 2005 07:51 (nineteen years ago)

we'll probably play around here. near the "broad walk", and as close to the tube station as we can.

http://uk.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=528400&Y=182486&width=700&height=400&scale=10000&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&db=freegaz&multimap.x=376&multimap.y=196

call me if you can't find us. my number's upthread i think!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 16 October 2005 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

Apologies for the accidental volley of an already swollen ankle.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 16 October 2005 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

That was fun! Stevie, I *promise* I wasn't singling you out for my own unique brand of robust tackling - the only cynical tackle I did all day was a professional foul against the Italian chappie at the start of our first game.

Teh Hobb, you are GOOD. Michael Grant - what a great touch for a big man!

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 16 October 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

Teh Hobb, you are GOOD

:)
For every good bit there was a bad bit to cancel it out (eg the lamentable attempt to score direct from kick-off on the big pitch).

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 16 October 2005 19:45 (nineteen years ago)

i wish there was more cynical tackling.. the only one i experienced was from my own team-mate!! haha

i wonder if the weather will hold out for another one this year. today was perfect footie weather.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 16 October 2005 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

That was not so much cynical, more carefully calculated clumsiness, ken.

darren (darren), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

i ache

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

oh i know.

i still have fond memory of that goal when (was it Tim and Jerry?) clashed outside the "box", and both fell over on their backs, and everybody looks on as the ball dwindles slowly towards the goal and in.

or that time when our team had 4 players in attack against just the goalkeeper and failed to score.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't just fail to score but actually hit the ball sideways off the pitch.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Technically I wasn't even the goalkeeper - the goalkeeper (a Mr T** H****** who will remain anonymous to protect his reputation) was on his arse 15 yards out of goal. I wonder if I'd have been sent off had I had to make a save, as the intricate technicalities of the rush goalie law hadn't been publically debated by this point.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

T** H***** was a legend in goal yesterday though despite.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 October 2005 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

as was the pinefox's finishing

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 October 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, T**'s flying saves were a wonder to behold - and the Pinefox, pressed into an unfamilar centre forward roll, made Thierry Henry look like Henry's Cat.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 17 October 2005 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

Hang on, so TH wasn't Therry Henry?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 17 October 2005 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

(NB hyper-predictable joke ahead)

This TH just spent the morning in the fractures unit of Kings College Hospital getting my ankle put in plaster. (Wait for it...) They're not actually sure whether it's fractured or not but if it is will it be the first ever ILx-related broken bone?

(Still not there yet.)

I have been in consultation with a lawyer regarding suing Teh HoBB for every moneybags United penny he has access to but (here it comes) she says I (yes) don't have a leg to stand on.

Hopalong-related humour not appreciated.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

Poor Tim. I hope you've got a sturdy ruler at the ready for itching inside the cast. And make sure it doesn't break, cos it's a bugger to get out.

is it just your ankle or up to your knee in plaster? Have you got crutches? Don't expect people to give up seats for you on public transport though.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Do expect people to approach you about making a gun, concealing it in your crutches, and k1lling General de Gaulle.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in a walking plaster. a cheeky below-the-knee number. No crutches, happily, but I'm not very mobile.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh dear. First time I turn up to football and I put a man in hospital.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Did they not do an x-ray, tim?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

They did two x-rays because I'm special. One lady thought I had a fracture, then another gentleman said he couldn't convince himself it was an actual break.

This one could run and run (oh HA HAHA I am funny today).

HoBB I suspect the damage was done when I turned my ankle over before we even started playing. And I played on because I am NAILS.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

it was probably my fault actually.. tim was going for a diving header but i caught the ball before he made contact and that may have disturbed his rhythm.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

actually was it a diving header you were going for?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

Still no dice.

Tim's lawyer (Tim), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

(Ken I can't remember, I just remember it hurting.)

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
hi guys.

might be playing on this sunday again. meet 2pm great portland street station. who's in? (there's already several coming from "another message board"!)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

ilx V!

I am probably in oxford :(

I like that I am the first words on this thread even though I always miss these.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 11 November 2005 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

greg oxford is so close, you can come down and go back home easy

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 12 November 2005 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

anyone?

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 12 November 2005 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

three months pass...
This sunday. think some folks from the lifestyle forum fancy a game. who's in?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

that'd be the 5th March. regents park. time TBC.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

I THINK SO YES

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

can I take a rain check? As in, can I check if it's raining?

Meanwhile, if anyone's up for some sweaty indoor action on a Monday night at the Gladesmore Centre in South Tottenham, please join us.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

I am in Manchester this weekend - :(

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

doh mark.

there is a provisional 8 now and growing. it's on!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

boo sux londoners can all take a hike

not in london for a month now :(

what on earth is lifestyle forum????

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 27 February 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

I'm probably playing at Old Street at the same time, but if that doesn't happen I'll come along.

Tehrannosaurus HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 27 February 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be mooching around with a bored look on my face at my nephew and nieces' fourth birthday party on Sunday afternoon, I'm afraid.

darren (darren), Monday, 27 February 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Just wondering, is it going to be I Love Everything versus Lifestyle? This has a very nice ring to it.

Are we go to be a Board XI, like in the warm-up matches on England cricket tours to the subcontinent?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 27 February 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

haha, well, i'd certainly like the idea if we can round up an XI!!! but i fear it'd be harder than arranging a kick-about in a gladesmore centre. (which is one notch higher in difficulty scale than piss-up at a brewery)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

Since I live in Tottenham, I might be lured out for a game locally.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 27 February 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

up for a game tonight?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, but I wasn't anyway, even if I'd seen this earlier. I may well be next week. I should add that I think the ill effects of giving up smoking 9 months ago are largely fading, but it has left me in even worse shape than I was last time we played tennis. I'm looking to get fit again, but first time out might be five minutes and then collapsing.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 27 February 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

I think I may be up for this. What's the frequency details, Kenneth?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

Any chance we could play before or after City's game against Sunderland (although I admit this may not be of burning interest to the neutral)?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

cool that should be fine now that the days are getting longger. 3:15 kickoff?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 March 2006 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

i'll put the idea to the lifestyle ppl.

(best thing i guess is to meet at the prince of wales feathers pub on warren st. at 1330 for footie or 15:15 for non-footie and then head off)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 March 2006 00:55 (nineteen years ago)

Any news on this?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

ken's plan sounds good.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

yup. that's the plan. fingers crossed we'll have enough folks. otherwise you know.. we'll be at a pub. and also have the option to challenge randoms!

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 4 March 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

can a mod person change the title?

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 4 March 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

I will see you in the boozer at 3:15.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 5 March 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

Is there playing tomorrow night? Can an old bloke join in, if so?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yup, Martin, please join us.

The Gladesmore Centre at the end of Crowland Road, South Tottenham, from 8pm.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 6 March 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

may be another FAKA this sunday. same format as last time?

prem. match on telly = newcastle v liverpool..

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

Can we:

a) start a new, non-date specific thread (but without the word ROLLING in it, if only for Steve's benefit) for London foopball? and

b) find somewhere new to play? that bit of Regents Park is so dry it's a potential deathtrap

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

(I am still quite fond of round the back of Primrose Hill.)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

ooh i see a) has been addressed by a mod.

as to b).. would a spread eagle -> primrose hill version of the set up be a good idea?

the meeting up in a pub pilot proved to have worked quite well (when we found one that's open) because that gave a wider cushion of time for people to show up and meant less waiting around in the cold.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

and yes that patch round the back of primrose hill is a good patch.

only worry with that is we need to make sure we have enough of a turn out because there wouldn't be so many opportunities for football randoms.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

Since I got my bag nicked in the Spread Eagle, I am reluctant to return. But I also think coming at it from the Chalk Farm end - ie meeting at the Pembroke Castle - has its advantages. You don't have to come out of Camden Town tube, for one.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

I also like the idea of the match-length window of opportunity for people to arrive. Primrose Hill on Sunday after Newcastle v Liverpool then?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

This Sunday would mean another no-show from me I'm afraid - doing statty stuff for the Colonial Johnnies Games at the Beeb all day. The week after would be nish, clish and indeed banging.

darren (darren), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

i really hurt my foot last night. i will try to make this if free though.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know if the Pembroke Castle still shows football, but we could watch LFC/NUFC at the Queen's, before heading to the park?

http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub1393.html

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

er....have you got a time planned? i have to get a coach back on sunday at about 1.30, so could only do morning. considering i am coming down for a birthday party, this could prove ruinous....

other weekends that could be possible for me: 31st/1st

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

This is sounding good!

The idea of watching match then playing would allow for later imitation of things seen on TV.

But also, drunkenness by the time play commences??

It is funny how JtN is still harbouring superstitions re. the Spread Eagle due to the bag bandit last time. Perhaps this is... psychogeography!!

Anyway, I think I will attend, this time!

the pinefox, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

ambrose think the plan is to watch the footie at 13:30 and kickoff ourselves 15:30 so maybe not this time.. but nothing to stop another game at the end of the month!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

ok no worries. i have to get back up norht to make lasagne for my housemate, hence early exit?!?!

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

wtf?? can you not get a microwave dinner?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

could, but i dont have a microwave to put it in. also, if i dont make it, then a pile of mince is gonna go rotten...

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

oh i do hate food going to waste.. your housemate isn't much of a cook then i take it?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

So, we should confirm, this!

Also, it seems that Porsmouth host Spurs on TV, Saturday night!

Anyone who's not DJ Martian want to watch it?

the bellefox, Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

it is confirmed, then!

meet here
http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub1393.html
from 1:30 - 3:15, to watch teh footie.

then we walk up the hill to play teh footie.

call me if there are problems etc. 07967 755446

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

no shes been cooking al the last two weeks, its my turn for once!

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

yay!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

What?

the bellefox, Friday, 17 March 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

I think I have never been to that pub. Or have I?

the bellefox, Friday, 17 March 2006 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

you might have. it has been a post-sinister-picnic location once

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

or was it an ilx footie thing..

no it was definitely after a sinister picnic. because i remember people got told off by the bar staff for eating candies there because they serve food

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

We should have another sinister picnic, Kenneth.

the bellefox, Friday, 17 March 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

we should, when it's warmer

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

TS: April vs May

the bellefox, Friday, 17 March 2006 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

april might be good. should be warm by then.

may may be warmer but i believe ATP also happens in may which may clash with potential picnic attendees.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:32 (nineteen years ago)

I might turn up to this. Where is this game? I know Primrose Hill, but I'm puzzled by the 'round the back' bit. Isn't it kind of hilly?

Tehrannosaurus HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 19 March 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

there's a flat bit that's closest to the zoo if that makes sense?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 19 March 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

call me if you can't find it

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 19 March 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

That makes sense, I just thought of that bit as 'round the front'.

Tehrannosaurus HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 19 March 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

cool. see you later on then!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 19 March 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

there's a flat bit that's closest to the zoo if that makes sense?

There is indeed, not to be confused with the hilly bit that's nearest Swiss Cottage. Doh.

Tehrannosaurus HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 19 March 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

Had lots of fun yesterday. Let's make it a regular event.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 20 March 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, good fun. I think Team ILX is shaping up nicely.

Shall we say meet from 1.30pm-3.30pm, upstairs at the Pembroke Castle, 2 April for the next match? The clocks will have gone forward by then, so there'll be potentially more playing time.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 20 March 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

potentially more playing time hmmm not sure about this but i agree with everything else.

Stop press!

Just checked the fixtures, and there's no 1.30 game that day...

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

The Hibs/Hearts Tennants Cup semifinal is on :)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

Perfect. April 2nd it is.

I should be able to rustle up a few more players between now and then. We can't always rely on finding some random kids to play with. [last sentence could've been worded better, but you know what I mean]

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

wait, im confused, are we playing at 1.30, or 3.30? i have a train back at 5.30 that evening, so if its the latter i prob wont make it?!

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

I have no problem with playing at 1.30... But experience suggests that having a window of arrival/corrdior of uncertainty means people are more likely to turn up on time. What about if we meet from 12.30-1.30 in the Pembroke?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, what used to happen was that we'd wait outside Regent's Park Station for some considerable while in the hope / expectation that more people might arrive. The new system does work better.

I have no problem with meeting up earlier... and then returning to the pub for the 4pm match perhaps, after our game?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah meeting 12:30-1:30 is good with me too. i'll see if my flatmate will come along this time (although unlikely)

just noticed from upthread that we played last year on the 2nd of april, too. making this a nice anniversary testimonial, or something.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no ! My Solskjaer-esque inability to make a comeback is set to continue. After being absent through nephew and nieces' birthday, then work at the Beeb, I will miss out on April 2 through having to attend my uncle's memorial service. Boo hoo. Can't we do it next week ? Or April 9 ?

darren (darren), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

Ken's flatmate is starting to seem like Norm's wife in Cheers. You know he exists but you never see him.

I'm happy to move things around to accommodate Darren, et al.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

it's fine with me too, depends if others are happy with it too (did i remember correctly PF saying that he might be away too in dublin?)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'm fine to move too.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

i cant make april 9th, but no worries

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 20 March 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, Ken: away on 2 April. So, could make next Sunday or the one after, probably.

the bellefox, Tuesday, 21 March 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

9th Apr sounds good then! the TV match schdules are different than usual.. kickoffs 12:00 14:00 16:00

hows about 12:00-14:00 at the pembroke and then play for a bit and then whoever fancies can catch a good chunk of Manu v Arsenal afters?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

So... this Sunday? The 2pm game is LFC/Bolton which will doubtless be a bore draw, so I don't mind missing it, particularly.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

Liverpool have been scoring lots lately, so I don't know about that. Could be a terrific day of football, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:54 (nineteen years ago)

I want to see that game as it's a huge one for Bolton. We could meet for a quick kickabout at 11.30 or 12 maybe and then decamp to nearby pub?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

Any of those times is good for me. Spurs v City is the Crunch at Brunch match on Saturday so I'm happy to leave Sunday's footy watching til Manu v Arse. Really fancy a kickaround actually.

darren (darren), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

we've not done well with surface conditions on Regents Park. how about moving back to Primrose Hill? but then must find a pub showing the football near there.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

At the last game we unanimously decided that upstairs at the Pembroke Castle should be the future meeting pub, with play round the back of Prim Hill.

I think the long window of opportunity of everybody meeting during the course of a televised game is still our best best for reaching even one-team quorum.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

but the early bird gets the...goal?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

I think the chances of getting enough of us up and out for a kickabout before noon on a Sunday are... slim.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

'one-team quorum'

I could be around for this!!

the plain pinefox of ireland, Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

I've got late-afternoon plans on Sunday, so the earlier the better for me.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

how about a slight compromise for all

12:00-12:45 at pembroke to catch the first half of chelsea pwning west ham

13:00-15:00 footie for two hours vs 15 yr old kids

15:15-16:00 to catch second half of bolton's goalless draw, and learn about sheringham's stunning second half match-winning hat-trick.

16:00-18:00 for those who want to watch arsenal trampered by united's march to the title

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

yes, i like this plan

btw Ken i won't be able to make football next Monday night either as i'm going to see The Knife. i have actually been wanting to play on Monday nights but things keep coming up (out of country/too unwell/gigs).

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

that's cool steve. i'll add you to the email chain as well at some point.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

The moment I decided I wanted to play, my ankle started twinging (sp: twingeing?), so I changed my mind. Overruled by my own ankle!

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

oh no. from that same injury from the last time?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

I think it was more a built-in laziness which saw the main chance and exploited it.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

So - we must be at the Pembroke by 1??

the pinefox, Saturday, 8 April 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

by 12:45.

see you all there?

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 8 April 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
hey guys. it's been a while - fancy some footie this weekend? it's a banky holly weekend right? are folks around on monday?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 April 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Bank Holiday Monday football on Primrose Hill sounds idyllic.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

having a bit of asthma trouble at the mo induced by hayfever so don't think i'll make it but will see.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 28 April 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

cool so there's at least 2 + 1 possibly mabbe.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 April 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

If it's just the two of us, Ken, we could always play badminton instead.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Friday, 28 April 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

Ken said, back in November:

i wish there was more cynical tackling.

I couldn't possibly disappoint the lad, so sign me up tentatively for Monday!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 28 April 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

OK, me too! I think this is a good plan.

the bellefox, Friday, 28 April 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

sweet - and now we have 4 (+1 mabbe stevem)

i'll see if anyone else wants to come.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 April 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

Kenneth

Daniel

SteveM

Markelby

The Pinefox

= 5

anyone else?

and when and where to meet? How about 2 o'clock at ... wherever. That same boozer as last time, by the canal?

the pinefox, Saturday, 29 April 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

Why does CARSMILE never play footy?

the bellefox, Saturday, 29 April 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

nick from the last FAKA said he'd be up for it too.

and my flatmate, perhaps.

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 29 April 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

So, Kenneth, confirm date and time?

the bellefox, Saturday, 29 April 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, place and time. Just so I know.

the bellefox, Saturday, 29 April 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

i was just about to ask - what kind of time suits people? there will be no footie on tv, but maybe meet from 1pm at the pembroke anyway for a 2pm kickoff?

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 29 April 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds good.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Saturday, 29 April 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

So! It will happen ... but I saw also a report that weather tomorrow would be bad? BBC site says, in fact: 'cloudy'.

Who is going to turn up, between 1 and 2, tomorrow?

the bellefox, Sunday, 30 April 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

i will.

IF the weather is rubbish call me first maybe. 07967 755446

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 30 April 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

Me and Ben (Apps) will be there!

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 30 April 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

yay bapps!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 30 April 2006 23:49 (nineteen years ago)

seeing as I`m in an internet caff at Narita airport, still hungover from Saturday, and won`t be in at Heathrow til 3.30, I`ll sadly have to rule myself out of this one. Have a good time y`all and say a prayer for Barca`s good fortune vs the Arse.

darren (darren), Monday, 1 May 2006 00:45 (nineteen years ago)

great turnout. great weather. great match!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

how many turned up?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

The magnificent seven.

And our crack team of winsome US cake-selling mascots.

the bellefox, Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, pinefox, I'm going to write to Stuart Pearce and tell him about the benefits of pre-match choc-chip shortbread (especially when the proceeds go to a good cause).

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 06:08 (nineteen years ago)

Same time, same place on the 14th?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

We could really do with at least 8 next time. Also, it feels like my legs will never work again. Otherwise, yes please!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

I need to do a lot more training before attempting anything less than 5-a-side again unfortunately.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

I've got a couple more candidates waiting for a call up.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

Steve, you should have seen us, well, me, after about 40 minutes playing. I didn't actually move fopr the last half hour of the game.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

which takes the fun right out of it for me. i'd rather just knock the ball around for a while instead of attempting to play an actual game with so few people.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

We had great fun - and if you'd turned up we'd have had greater fun cos 3 vs 4 isn't ideal.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

i think 4 a side is ok as long as the pitch is the correct size (and without the/with a modified 'unlimited width' rule)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:10 (nineteen years ago)

any thoughts on perhaps FAKA action this Sunday 14th may?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 May 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

I have some bad news. In an accident at home yesterday I badly pulled a groinal muscle stopping myself from falling downstairs and I am touch and go to make sunday.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 8 May 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

oh dear. you need to get yourself some groinal massage perhaps.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 May 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

seems like camera obscura are playing that weekend too! at the luminaire. might be a fun day out if football can be factored in

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

that NIGHT (14th). i should have said

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

I'm up for Sunday afternoon / evening. I suspect that one might have to book in advance for Camera Obscura, as the luminaire is a tiny venue

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 06:26 (nineteen years ago)

ooh daniel if you do book would you mind booking for mine as well? how much is ticket?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

It just so happens I have one for you, Ken. they're 7.50 each plus booking

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

coool!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Gosh, Ken, so many o's in your last two posts.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

this FAKA may turn into a FABadminton instead... as there seems to be a lack of interest in numbers

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

still struggling with injuries i'm afraid.

Konal 'Sick Note' Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

Oh I am interested, and I am going to see CO, too.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

if it happens to turn into FABadinton would you be up for it stevie?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

As long as it is somewhere relatively central.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

I did a Markelby myself, while playing badminton a few days after that game on Primrose Hill that I turned up late to. I was in agony for a while, and had to have a day off work, and then limp around for a week. That was about 6 weeks ago and I haven't been able to play football since then, so I expect he'll be out of action for more than just this weekend. The personnel department where I work were about to put me on half-pay yesterday, claiming I'd been off work for 48 days with a sports injury. I told them I'd only missed one day of work, but they said I needed to prove it. From now on I might pop into the Personnel office each day and do a little dance just to make sure they notice me.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

Any news on football/badminton this Sunday?

There are plans afoot to meet at the North London Tavern around 8ish, for indie sportsfolk with an interest in seeing Camera Obscura at the Luminaire later on.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 May 2006 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

I think darren is also interested, however that still only makes 4 of us.

If instead we fancy badminton: i called the sobell centre and they said they have loads of slots for sunday. (i asked about 2:30 just as an example and that's free). So if you fancy that then it should be quite easy to book that instead - and if the north london line is running we can get to kilburn pretty quickly using that! (from camden road station 10 mins busride away)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

i might be more keen on badmin than football! it's lookign a bit more promising for me to play on sunday tho, even tho it may just be in goal for entire duration.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 12 May 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

Badminton yay!!!!!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 May 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

BUT I'm at my parents for lunch :( This only works for me if it's like 5pm. Sorry chaps.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 May 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

Looks like rain for Sunday, so badminton may be the best bet, apres tout...

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

what kind of times shall we go for then - i guess it depends if we're going to go straight to kilburn or home first (suits me either way). et me know of a preferred time and i'll call and book the nearest! Think they do it for slots half an hour past each hour 2:30, 3:30 etc..

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

If we went for, say, 5.30, Baz Lazazz could come along, we could play for a couple of hours, then those of us CO-ing could head to Kilburn for 8ish?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

That would suit me v well...

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

OK. can only get 5:30 for one hour - will that be enough? (we can mix and match and have some games of doubles?) let me know and i'll book it straight away.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

both 4:30 and 6:30 are fully booked.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds ace (did you see what I did there), Ken!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

Make it so, Kenneth.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

(I am going to CO, despite being a rocker at heart.)

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

ok, we've courted!

Court 1B Sunday 17:30 for one hour. See you there

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

do you guys have racquets? i have one (somewhere). Actually they must have some for hire as well..

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

and the 'cocks.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure I've got a racket somewhere, but I fear it might have fallen victim to a purge when I moved house. There's a tube full of 'cocks lying aroud in my kitchen from previous tenants, so i can bring that along.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

I don't have a single cock, but I have a racket. The strings may disintegrate the moment I hit anything with it, though - does anyone have a spare they can bring just in case?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

i'll see if my flatmate has one.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

okay guys i have a second court booked as well. just so that we can all be in on some action. see you all 5:30 at the sobell centre? just at the reception.

http://www.aquaterra.org/islington/sobell/

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 14 May 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

Argh, I have to bail on this, I'm afraid - sorry if this leaves you short of numbers! See some of you later at Lumi, though.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 14 May 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

oops! see you later on then

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 14 May 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

See y'all there just before 5.30!

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 14 May 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

Still smarting after defeat to Markelby, and my right arm feels a bit trembly, but badminton was great fun. more please.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Monday, 15 May 2006 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

So many parts of me are stiff and sore after badminton and cricket. Damn you old age!

But it was great fun - the game between me and Daniel was pretty epic (I felt like I'd been playing for days rather than 45 minutes, unlike my sprightly opponent), but not as epic as Darren and Ken's to-the-wire finale. Definitely want to do it again soon - 6 people on two courts would be ace cos then there'd be the opportunity to rest between games :)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 May 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

sorry for missing this. good that there were 4 of you tho.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 15 May 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Ken, later. He was glowing, healthily.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 15 May 2006 09:50 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
since ILX is about to die - a testimonial game this sunday?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 August 2006 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

is it already dead?

one year passes...

Anyone interested in joining my weekly game on Mondays in Regents Park? We usually manage to cobble together about 7 or 8 uncordinated reprobates which is not quite enough to make a decent game so we typically join forces with any other shorthanded game - a highly unsatisfactory arrangement because they likely as not turn out to be a bunch of cocks.

if we could get a couple more together regulars I reckon we could manage a really decent game.

What time do you start, Nick? And are you really all malcos or are any of you actually quite good (NB the latter would be a bad thing)?

Mark C, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 12:32 (sixteen years ago)

we tend to start around 7 - or whenever i turn up.

there are some decent players amongst us (i am probably one of the least capable but what i lack in skill i more than make up for in mouthiness) but no ronaldos and no-one takes it too seriously, which is why last night was so frustrating.

Didn't realise the extnet of your injury, Ken.

As for your game, Upt0eleven, I play with Ken (I say!) in South Tottenham on a Monday already. Which gives me an idea - perhaps we could have a showdown between your Monday people and ours later in the week...!

^^^ This is a mighty fine idea. Won't take much to persuade my boyz and I imagine the extra exercise won't hurt. Unless i break my foot. Which I almost certainly will.

Great! I'm sure there won't be too much arm-twisting required on our side either.

Regents Park? Wednesdays?

Sounds good to me. Seeing some tonight for a gig - will report back.
