My first London FAP....
(oh yeah, and also my first time in London ever.)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooray! have fun!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Tremendous! Trouble is, there is this huge football tournament on at that time, so any pub-going will have to accommodate that to a large extent, for many of us. It'll be good to meet you, though.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Go and watch an England game somewhere ! it will be a fine induction into English culture!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with Mr. Skidmore and L! You simply must.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh darn. *snap*

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha yes, I dragged Ned along to an England game when he stayed with me!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

In a way, DB is visiting at just the right time. London will be fantastic, especially if England do well.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't say I am completely happy with the outpourings of jingoism that that produces, however.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Agreed, but it's nice to see a smile on everyone's face. for a change ;)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

there are no England games on during these dates. tho i am eager to watch the games that are on in a pub tho so would suggest we do that personally (but where?) - of course at the weekend the FAPping can start in the daytime :)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

by which i mean midday time

stevem (blueski), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

there's an FAP planned for the 19th in Oxford.. if you want to venture out of London for an afternoon

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha yes, I dragged Ned along to an England game when he stayed with me!

Dude, I WANTED to go.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not as much a footie aficionado as Neddie, but I will happily go with the flow if there is a motion so.

my only agenda in London, in order of highest to least highest priority:
* be social and have fun
* go to maybe a few dance vinyl stores and finally pick up some wax without paying "import prices" back at home
* go to at least one GREAT vegetarian place (as I understand veggie food is pretty readily available anywhere in the city, especially the markets)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I should insert at the top of the list...

* GARETH WUV

(Gareth, i will be contacting you via email shortly)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

* go to maybe a few dance vinyl stores and finally pick up some wax without paying "import prices" back at home

DB, you ARE aware of how deep in the toilet the dollar is compared to the pound, right?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

db - go to Berwick street, shop at Sister Ray, Mr Bongo and all the others and then eat dirt cheap and wholesome food at BeatRoot. Then come and watch footie - I think that Saturday features Czech republic vs Holland which should be a very very good game.

chris (chris), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

DB, you ARE aware of how deep in the toilet the dollar is compared to the pound, right?

Yes I am aware... this is why "import vinyl" in the states has also gone up, by definition.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

("import" being defined as "imported from the UK".... unless other European countries have taken over for distributing to the U.S. since. How much is a new club 12" vinyl single in pounds these days anyway?)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

well, for ages they were knocking out so much love to give at summat ridiculous like 8 quid!!

chris (chris), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

8 quid per vinyl single? Really?

By that definition, import 12"s from the UK should be no less than $16US.. yet they are still around $11US each. Are the dance record stores in the U.S. taking a hit, or are they just getting an amazing deal via the distributors?

I'll just wait til I get back to the U.S. to get my UK vinyl, in that case.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

that was just for that one, I don't shop for much of that stuff tbh, but I was horribly shocked.

Wait for tomorrow when all the others wake up, they'll know how much. Berwick street is the place though.

chris (chris), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

also if we're in soho, that pub opposite LVPVS at the bottom of wardour street (black lion?) was PACKED with the oranj that night they lost 1-0 to scotland, so might be good for a bit of atmos...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, db, I'd've loved to have met you, but I'm actually coming over like a weeks or so after this FAP.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

or check out the slightly more expensive but still relatively cheap Mildreds (one of my all-time faves). Its on Lexington, also in Soho and within easy walking distance of Berwick record shops.

gizmo (gizmo), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dance twelves are more often 5-6 quid.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 7 June 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

DB, know you're not strictly dance-oriented, but try these:

http://www.clubbinginlondon.net/record_shops.htm

(Supposedly House and Trance, but tis worth the hunt if can find a vinyl for 2 pounds or summat.

Warning: If you're seeing grey, it ain't your monitor.)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 7 June 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Date and pub please - FOCUS PEOPLE FOCUS.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 07:33 (twenty-one years ago)

But I would prefer Saturday 19th, though. Also Dutch vs Czechs = MUST SEE GAME.

Carsmile - are talking about Die Hems, that big Dutch pub in Soho. It will be fantastic for atmosphere, quadruple k-rub for a biggish FAP though I'd imagine.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking of doing something for my birthday round then, but wasn't sure what, I'm happy to gatecrash this for you lot to ALL GIVE ME PRESENTS, by the way, ahem ahem. I do want to do something specfically for my birthday but I'd like a change from chucking lots of BOOZE down my throat in the regular haunts...

No idea WHAT TYPE of change though.

But yes, hope to see Brian when he arrives - I hope the GRATE DANES will also be in attendance?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm, it's my birthday on the 19th too. Had not realised that Football Is On :(

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Waaah do stuff on the 20th so that the robster and I can attend!

/selfish

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

what? watch Spain vs Portugal? that can't be missed ;o)

chris (chris), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Archel, stop being a grumpy drawers. Come to London and get drunken and have attention ladeled onto you! Yay FAP!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i vote sunday as well, unless the oxford fap is moved to sunday, or something.

db, my fave vegetarian place is the gate.(http://www.gateveg.co.uk/) there's two locations-- belsize park and hammersmith. belsize park is a nicer area to wander around, hammersmith location has some tables outside in a nice courtyard. this is nice food that is also vegetarian, rather than being only health-oriented food. let me know if you want more suggestions, i'm doing research on this right now to select veg places for when my parents visit next month.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, I am having a party in Brighton anyway I think, I was just worried that I might lose guests to the footy. Can't afford to come to London alas :(

Anyone who wants to attend my birthday instead of/as well as FAPping, watch this space. Well, not this space. A different space. Or email me, or something. Arrgh, too much sun...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Jerry, is The Gate where we went that time?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

argh! What to do? My head hurts! Shall I move to Oxford FAP to Sunday, or is this FAP moving to Sunday or........gnnnghrff

*the cogs in MarkH's head grind to a halt then explode in a puff of smoke*

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 09:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone step in and end this fanny dangle and pick a pub and a night, will you?

PS - Sunday is rubbish, due to being a school night. Also DB is here for one weekend, Oxford isn't going to go away. All you Oxford people, come to London ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm inclined to agree matt, but i didn't mean die hems, but it's close, which is probably why it was full of oranj

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 10 June 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

the golden lion on dean street is the one i'm referring to:

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub658.htm

it's not huge though. how many are turning up?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 10 June 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Blue Posts Newman Street might be better for footy-watching as its not likely to be overwhelming and people who don't want to watch the game will find it easier to ignore. Especially if upstairs is open and not booked up.

Incidentally, the only games on Friday 18th are Bulgaria vs Denmark and Italy vs Sweden, both of which aren't exactly likely to be thrillers, so that might be a better night and we could pick any pub we wanted.

Any preferences night-wise, Mr Bitch?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 June 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(there isn't a telly upstairs at BPNS is there?)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 10 June 2004 09:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but there's one downstairs, isn't there?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 June 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh, good idea matt. i vote the 18th as well. that'll solve the problems with possibly going to oxford the next day and stuff...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 10 June 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still a bit upset at the revelation that Oxford isn't going to go away.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 10 June 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

What day has been decided upon?

I definetely can not make the 18th, as I am going to see Chris Eubank.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

b-but panto season is months away!

Friday the 18th at the Blue Posts, Newman St. be there or don't.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe a mod should put Friday 18th, Blue Posts, Newman Street in the title, as this is a long and confusing thread otherwise.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't come then :(

Already got me tickets! (it's my Glastonbury)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure DB will be around and up for stuff on the Saturday and SUnday anyway

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for reminding me about this, matt...i'm bumping it so it doesn't get lost.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 14 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The Golden Lion's a lovely pub...when there's no football on. When there's football on, it's full of braying hoorays and their dutiful ditzy jinty-drinking bits. Ugh.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 14 June 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i suppose i wasn't there for an england match so can't really comment, the dutch we met were nice though :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 14 June 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

what's a 'jinty-drinking bit'?

i've got an american/english dictionary, but it's useless for ILX...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 14 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess it's a woman drinking gin and tonic.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 14 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

what stevem said. pub, footie, b-days, fun, 19th, it's all good.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 14 June 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

(gareth, please email me your address and land line number... d o n u t b i z i t c h @ h o t m a i l )

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

wait...the 19th now? either i'm more tired than i think, or this is a confusing thread. i thought there was a fap on friday the 18th. is this true or false? where's matt dc shouting at people to sort it out when you need him?!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

see thread title for details

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

probably something on saturday as well, it's the weekend after all

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

18th is good too... i might be more tired then, but hey it's all good.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Gareth would be proud of you.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be at the Blue Posts before 5pm on Friday, if anyone else can make it early.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

you have to fap on your first night in the country, it's ZE ROOLS

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

take donut bitch to brighton for the 19th!!!!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

My flight gets in around noon (with possible delays)... I should hopefully make it by then. I will follow ZE RUULSS.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

(Gareth had just been thrown into a Seattle FAP straight from the airport after a flight to London from L. FUCKIN' A for a layover. -- I realize I can't be a wimp, even if I have a layover in Iceland beforehand)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

just remember if they ask 'purpose of visit' at passport control just bark 'FAP' at them manically

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"FAP FAP FAP FAP FAP FAP FAP..."

"MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll do my best impression of Father Jack.

"DRINK!"

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh but you must take into account Gareth was already broken at that point so was merely icing fancy letters spelling out 'yryherhfbewwbf' on top of his cake of prolonged ruin

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

yryherhfbewwbf

Is that Welsh for "sex tourist"?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i wont be going to the fap directly from work though, i will be going home in between and getting some food. i think 730ish is more realistic

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

So this is indeed the 18th? As in Friday? Still at the pub mentioned in the title? No footie? Donut Bitch? (who I realise I've only ever talked to on the phone, even though I'm somehow still convinced I've met...)

I'm writing it in INK in my diary so you lot better not change your minds!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

They have a big screen downstairs Kate - there will be plenty of football. Two live matches, in fact, kickoffs 5 and 7.45. Some people may wish to go outside or upstairs to avoid it, perhaps.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Blue Posts can get busy upstairs on a Friday, but hopefully the footie downstairs will counteract that.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, it will be busy downstairs instead.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the one nice thing about footie is that it tends to empty out areas of pubs not in direct line of sight with the altar, I mean, television screen.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll happily bounce back and forth as needed... but I admittedly don't follow along with footie as much as certain US folks who have visited in the past, so I'm cool with both.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 06:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The matches in question do not promise to be particularly unmissable (I think Sweden might have shot their load early), and England aren't playing, so the pub probably won't be any more crowded than it is on an average Friday.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

although fitzrovia is basically "little sweden", if anywhere in london is...

i'll be there by quarter past five i guess

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I would have thought the narrow wedge between Edgware Road and Marylebone Road, south of Marylebone Station would have had more claim to the title of little Sweden. It's got a Swedish church and everything!

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, you and your facts getting in the way of a perfectly good story...

you deserve all the local bands you get ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Scando business happening down Rotherhithe, Swedish, Finnish & Norwegian Churches all within a few hundred yards from each other.

I wonder if the BPNS will let us watch the evictions after the game?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

*adds earplugs to shopping list*

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Dudes, clearly we're ALL on the wrong side of the Danelaw to have proper Scandinavian action going on! Get thee to the other side of Watling Street!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

FAP, Jorvik?

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, this is *symbolic* Danelaw.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

we should put out a press release to all the pubs in central london "dear publican, if you let us come and watch bb in your pub we will write effusive praise on our exciting website". i'm sure it's the only way it's going to happen...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Football *and* Big Brother? You know, if you don't actually want me to come along, you can just post "Kate, please don't come". ;-)

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

She just won't take the hint!

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

db-- is it actually a layover in iceland, or are you there for a longer stay? if it's a layover (and i assume you're flying icelandair), TAKE FOOD WITH YOU. unless you want to eat vacuum sealed pickled fish, which is the ONLY FOOD AT THE REYKJAVIK AIRPORT.

i'm not bitter or anything.

(i did an icelandair flight london/reykjavik/new york and because it's two short flights they don't really serve you a meal, and the airport is so small that there isn't much (any vegetarian) food. take bagels, chips, enough snack food that you won't be in tears when your luggage isn't the first off the plane!)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

omg vaccuum packed pickled fish. Can you get this in England? (I'm serious btw)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark in certain very fine pubs you can get vacuum packed cockles and mussels served crispwise gorblimey guvnah.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

...but I've never seen vacuum packed pickled fish and that's another thing to add to the GREAT TRAGEDIES OF MY LIFE list.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

ikea?

chris (chris), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

that would be flat-packed pickled fish, shirley?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

not in the food shop?

and don't call me.....yadda yadda

chris (chris), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

they might also have *gulp* vacuum packed puffin meat, as it's the national dish. the only food there is the souvenir shop that has a selection of native islandik food. ick.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Eating animals is wrong. And eating cute puffins, wronger.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

when come, bring back smoked puffin pub snacks

chris (chris), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

wasn't he asking where good vegetarian restaurants in london were? guessing he's as likely as me to purchase puffin. (could be wrong, though)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Can everyone with a sticker album remember to bring swapsies, ok thx bye.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, who else is there for swapsies? g are you coming out to play?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

And do you have The Horse?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Not sure if I'm coming. Cathryn has been away all week and I need to, ahem, spend some time with her. But maybe. And I do have the horse as a swapsie.

I've got 39 to get!

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

colette, MANY thanks for the head up.

Yeah, my layover in Keflavik is on the way TO london. I'm STAYING in Iceland on the way out of London. Either way, I'll be taking mass quantities of food on the plane. Thanks for the tip. :) Although, i did request vegetarian meals well in advance for the IcelandAir flights and they only told me London-to-Keflavik might be a problem for vegetarian meals..... sooo, we'll see.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

My flight number from IcelandAir is #450 due to arrive just before noon on Friday. sooooo, in case of horrible delays....

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 17 June 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaysus!! The Edge!! This is tomorrow!!!

THIS is what I miss out on when I'm off work sickly!!

Er - I'll be there, of course!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

interesting that they told you there's problems with veg meals going west...that was what i was on, so maybe that was the issue. anyway, never hurts to have extra food, i say!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

brian i sent you a mail concerning keys, did you get it?

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ACTUALLY - Big Brother!!!

Do you think they'd put it on for us?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i reckon if any pub in london will, it's the BPNS, surely...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

You don't reckon it's worth a shufty round to ask beforehand? I don't think I'll have a chance tonight but maybe tomorrow lunchtime...?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Who could we ask to phone ahead...?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

This is no matter for joking about, Tim Tim!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you'll find that it was me who raised the BB issue first and I am actually dealdy serious about it.

I'm still not phoning ahead though.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

DEALDY SERIOUS!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm looking forward to Italy v Sveden actually, i am a bit annoyed by Big Brother's audacious attempts to upstage Euro 2004, tho i do want to watch both

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Goat-So-Simple

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

chris (chris), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

yay, fap!

...I will have been doing actual proper work that day, so might possibly be there early doors unless I have to do some therapeutic record shopping.

cis (cis), Friday, 18 June 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

When asked what he used to actually *do* at Masonic meetings, my grandfather used to reply mysteriously "ride the goat".

SO RIDE THE GOAT BABY, RIDE THE GOAT!!!

Ha-hem. I'll be coming down pretty much directly after work, I think. Of course that depends what time I get out of work, and seeing as they've not even set me up with access to the computer that I need to *do* these new reports they've asked for, I'm not even sure when that will be.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Friday, 18 June 2004 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I need to trawl the high street shops for headscarves. NO ISOBEL COMMENTS PLS THX BYE. My hair is just a ruin. COME ON HAIR, GROW you SH1t3.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 18 June 2004 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

snurk, flark, pfffffffffft, HEADSCARF!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 18 June 2004 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

am already tired today, so might take a quick nap before coming out to this...

what's with the headscarf, sarah? is this a general fashion thing or a glastonbuty-specific trend that i don't understand?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I may well be there now, and drinking very heavily

chris (chris), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember the last time you took a "quick nap" before a FAP, Colette. Do you want a wakeup call this time ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

a rude one?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(headscarf thing is a (rather disgusting) old s*nister in-joke)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i managed to wake up from my naps for the last two days, but sure. if you haven't heard from me by 7:30, might be worth giving me a call.

(not always this bad, think i may be coming down with a cold. boo)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i have been drinking excessively for the past two nights, and i'm going dancing after pub omg. then brighton tomorrow, and sunday FAGOT FAKA FAP triple bill. then monday night England footie. Shit. If you don't hear from me on Tuesday morning call the police.

Fuck, that tuesday is 2 days before glastonbury.

i'm going to be dead.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

As a semi-posting, English-but-Canadian-residing ilxor, I might try and pop by... are new people allowed? What time, roughly?

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Do not mean Canadian-but-English residing? If not, you'd be more than welcome, but you might be in trouble for nightbuses.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

dave b makes me laugh.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck, there will be people there from 5 until [ahem] chucking out time. look for the group of loud people saying "OMG, WTF?!" and asking for big brother to be put on the pub screen :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

and he has already updated his email address to g mail!

what a guy.

xpost

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

chuck can especially come if he brings a sappy puppy. i think that would make this evening complete.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck will be very welcome. To aid in recognition, I have a photo on my profile here, and will be wearing a white shirt. I'll be there before 5.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 18 June 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there around 7, I hope. To the lunchmobile!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 18 June 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the lunchmobile??

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 18 June 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

things have taken a turn for the better, I will still be boozin' but now celebrating! a little

chris (chris), Friday, 18 June 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

chuck - come for sure. and you won't be the only canadian-in-england there...

i just got into work an hour ago (got home at 5am - hardcore night out last night that involved Tiger Tiger. eeeek. i've said too much). i won't have much zing in me but i'll pop by to meet 'the bitch'.

ken you rock.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 18 June 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you just heard about England's score last night, Chris?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 18 June 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

no, I seem to have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in my project (I had to have two meetings last night Martin, at half time and the after final whistle :o(

chris (chris), Friday, 18 June 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

:-( i was about to win £22 before idiot Gerrard Scored :(

(betted roonie score first and 2-0)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in le chateau de gareth right now... i lost a morning and i want it back, dammit. whoever can get my morning back gets a free guiness tonight...

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

chris (chris), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

You'll find it approximately an hour into your time at the Spanish Bar.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure it's somewhere in my reports. Arggghhh.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I've found it, it's in a truck full of frozen pastry heading up the a1

chris (chris), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am actually going to close ILX and get offline and shut down all other distractions until these reports are done, because I've only just realised the level of complexity they entail, and I've only got two hours to do them or no pub for me!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

50% morning by sight!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my morning is being held captive in Iceland somewhere right now... (I almost seriously didn't make it today... there was a mad thunderstorm at JFK in NYC just as my flight was about to leave... 9pm last night. All flights grounded for 90 minutes... I had a connecting flight in Keflavik to London that was.. 90 minutes. I literally hopskotched to the opposing gate to catch my London flight... but alles ist gut now. Gareth is a saviour.... you guys should fly IcelandAir anyway to see the IcelandAir trailer that looks like it was directed by whoever invented the Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation 1814 aesthetic...(marching hot Icelandic stewardesses.. mrrrrrooowwr))

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

For no reason whatsoever I am going to post a picture of Icelandic businessman Jon Asgeir Johannessonm, who I've been writing news stories about all week - truly the Anders Frisk of terrifying enormo-capitalism.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

"Firsht we close the deal, then take you for a drive in my Ferrari and we make love on the beach among the puffins, ja?"

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 18 June 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Headscarf = urgent and key for Glasto, and also for days when I cannot straighten my hair ftb I have been a dirty stop out/south London power cut or summat!

NOT THAT, STEVE.

So yes, I'll be looking for some headscarves first I think.

NB I have left my phone at the young chap's house so if anyone has texted or called me aaaaaagaha, I haven't gorrit...

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

toby (tsg20), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess i'll be following gareth down to the pub tonight... which i think he said would be around 7:30pm... soooo. yeah! (I've been known to do a great Terri Nunn impression... she's from O.C. you know)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not you, it's him

chris (chris), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey y'all.

I can't make Brighton, but hope to be at the boozer this eve.

the other marianna, Friday, 18 June 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

brighton wasn't made in a day

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I've thrown up my hands in despair at my boss (including some random Hitchikers Guide comments to make her think I've gone totally mental) and sent her off what I was able to bash out, and now I am going to be leaving. As quickly as I can, before anyone grabs me to make more reports!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear me.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot believe I just sent an email to the head of the department that ended with "Brane is broken, need bouze." ILX has ruined me!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

youch.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 19 June 2004 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i must know

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 June 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to name and shame Barry The Hatchet after he hurled some casual abuse at some of the large flock of roller-slaters and cyclists that whizzed past the pub last night for some reason. Italy were still in the lead at that point too. tut tut.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 June 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

well last night was absolutely spectacular.... my "number of ilxors met wang count" has now broken the mercury at this point... it was overwhelmingly great. i wish i had a chance to talk more individually with everyone last night and hopefully there will be that chance. i think gareth, stevem, and i are about to do some record shopping today... anyway, many cheerX0R!!!!!!!

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 19 June 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Rah for the DB! Pictures soon plz.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 June 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ow, my hangover. The words that people end up regretting more than any other, more than "hey, honey, we're in Vegas, let's get married" even more than "why, yes, I'd like to join the foreign legion..." are possibly "ALL BACK TO MINE!!!" (My status as "poshest bitch on ILX may now be sealed by Matt DC drunkenly insisting "You live in a hotel!" it's not a hotel. It's a flock of bats. I wonder how he would have reacted had the doorman been awake and on the job)

Ha ha, just kidding. It was a great night. Wonderful to meet the legendary "It's Donut, Bitch!" and fun to see everyone with NO FOOTIE INVOLVED. Yeah.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Saturday, 19 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i took pics but not of specific people, mainly great big things surrounded in colored lights (as for last night.) colette however did take people pics, one involves me with my face in an elaborate DNA structured wreath of plastic red monkeys (kate will explain if she feels up to it.) colette may post the pics. she may not. it is her decision.

but many thanks again for everybody being so kind... off the top of my head, the people who ended up at kate's last night: kate, myself, gareth, ken c, colette, matt dc, william bloody swaggart (please tell me i spelled that all right)... earlier at the pub, rob bolton, stevem, martin s., starry, ricky t, mark s, mark c, cis, alix, tim hopkins, andy, and da julio d., and there were surely others i met, but they must have been downstairs most of the time watching the match. (forgive me if i did have a conversation with you and didn't mention you. there were too many to remember)

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 19 June 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, matt! did you end up ok last night?

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 19 June 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Wah, you got to meet Colette, I R jealous.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 June 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry I didn't get to talk to you Db but I was enthralled withthe amazing football and then had to get off for food and bed, the week had really caught up with me by the end of the game

chris (chris), Saturday, 19 June 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

And actually what DID happen to Matt, then?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 June 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

DB - not quite, but I forgive you. (One day, I will get Jimmy Swaggart. Grr.)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 19 June 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

what with?

cis (cis), Saturday, 19 June 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

what is this thing about hangover??? you're supposed to stay drinking the next day to avoid this.. pint count 28 pints sinces 4 days ago.

if i die tomorrow morning my donor card number is JW39820, i doubt my liver will be any use. shit, that was my doner card.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 June 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, Matt managed to get his phone back. (Weirdly enough, I dreamed about Matt's phone last night, I still had it, and it kept having weird messages on it, like whenever anyone rang him, the ansaphone message would come up in text on the display.) After that, I have no idea. I left Colette in charge of him. Which is a bit like leaving the kids in charge of the candy shop, but still...

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Colette pillage Matt? DB, great to meet you - probably a good thing you didn't come downstairs as I embarrassed myself a fair amount with booze aand adrenaline.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear. I fear the fear.

Yeah, BTW, what *were* those random rollerbladers all about? There were THOUSANDS of them!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 06:56 (twenty-one years ago)

they do that every Friday for some reason.

was someone carrying a huge ghettoblaster on their blades or summat, the music was pretty damn loud.

chris (chris), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ohmigod, he's alive! I dreamed about your mobile, Matt! Or did I post that already?

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you to everyone who prevented me from walking around a strange part of London confused, phoneless and unable to find my way home.

Kate, if your building isn't a hotel, it certainly should be. I have a vague, vague memory of plastic red monkeys. Was I awake at this point?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, those weren't monkeys, they were MOLECULES!!! In fact, I think you'll find they were AAAAAHHHHHRT! Or, erm, something.

I don't really care any more. Have you met my new boyfriend, Mr. Delays?

http://www.thedelays.co.uk/IMAGES/GALLERY/9.jpg

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, nice to meet Chuck Tatum, albeit briefly. Sorry we didn't get to speak properly!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You sack of steaming bar stewards. How dare you have so much fun without me? The BPNS will never be the same again, but I'd better just check that it's not too traumatised this evening.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

kate mark etc. that was FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE (or something like that). I'm learning to rollerskate so i can join in! what a way to meet hott SK8R GRRLS!!!!!!!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.thefns.com

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i am not a kid in a candy shop! i am the master of getting drunken ilxors on the right night bus. although i abandoned matt around the corner from where his bus stop was in order to jump on the waiting 19.

it was great meeting db, i promise to give seattle another chance someday. the most surreal part of the night for me was going to the troy club with ken (who was suspicious of where i was taking him), walking up to the bar, ordering 2 bottles of wine and the bartender asking ken if it was for takeaway. bizarre.

i'll post those pictures that i have tomorrow, is there any way to post the sound of matt snoring on the couch, which i also recorded? he he...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

p.s. i had NO IDEA how drunk i was until i woke up with a terrible hangover on saturday. i don't understand!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

such dishevelled candy i have never seen

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

(I was going to say "like leaving the lunatics in charge of the assylum" but thought you'd take offense! Geez! Perhaps "the drunk leading the unconscious" would have been more literal!)

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Markelby is droll, on this thread.

charlton_lido (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I had forgotten about Matt snoring on the couch! Hah! As it turned out, Joe didn't even come home until Sunday night (grrrrr) so it would have been perfectly fine if anyone had stayed over. Ah well. I just thought it would be a bit... unpolitical... for him to come home and find random young men all over the flat. I didn't want to be the ex girlfriend from hell, you know?

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like such a dismal failure of a human being.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear. Man, that's some whup-ass ruin.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

he is dishevelled, no longer.

the garethfox (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

parodies like limp arrows, without force or direction. flailing, uncertain, uninventive.

yes, clive, without support from pirosmani, he certainly looks to be floundering, the use on repeated second hand memes is never going to cause this defence any problems

well, thats right barry, at this level you do need that little spark, something unusual, and i dont think he's got it, i'd imagine they'd bring him off at half time on this display

oh without doubt clive, he's not at the races today, and withuot pirosmani providing the ammunition they look a second rate outfit, devoid of ideas

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that joe coming home to random young men scattered around would have been hilarious. good thing you didn't originally suggest that, or i would have pressured everyone to stay for comic effect.

and gareth was trying to steal my job as night-bus guide by sending WBS on his merry way without any help from me. sigh. i'm so unnecessary.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I respectfully disagree. Solid, unspectacular yet effective route-one parody, I'll have you know. It'll never win goal of the season, even by his own standards, but I think the opposition defender's petulance masks an annoyance that he's put himself in a position to be left open to such tactics. They've hurt him before and it'll be interesting to see whether we'll see a change in style of play to avoid a repeat of the weekend's action.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

(You're hardly unnecessary. You're the only one that managed to procure booze!)

((Joe is actually jealous of the keyboardist bloke from Delays now. I think this is a good thing, though.))

and showed me where to go, and reminded me that my mission was to ask for booze at the bar rather than to be in awe of the unfamiliar place that was the troy club.

(actually colette i may still owe you money... can i pay it back with pear cider at glasto?)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm not bothered about Ken. He LEFT EARLY and missed all the fun! humph!

(I'm not sure what fun that was that he missed, but I'm sure he missed some.)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

D'Cruz did well considering he was not forming his usual partnership in midfield with the winger Mannion who was brought off early. oh shit i don't mean it like that...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

can i say again that friday night was great? :)

Actually, my entire weekend here in london has been fantastic.. and it's mainly due to gareth... who is the WUV OF THE INFINITY WINE! He deserves all the wuv he gets.

everyone around town, strangers and ilxors each, has been extremely kind and friendly and down-to-earth and very engaging. I'm in a haze of happiness right now. i'm almost sad and frightened that i'm leaving in half a hour to go to the airport to Iceland actually...

plenty of great photos too. will post them when i get home in a week.

now off to the puffins.

here at the heathrow waiting area. large footie contingent in one end. the sudden screams release an interesting echo in here.

my flight leaves in the middle of TEH BEEG GAYM, so any riots in london that erupt, I R NOT DOIT!

(luv u 2 colette and stevem :))

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 21 June 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The screams were because of the goal that England are already down by -- WHICH YOU CAUSED. Deny it not.

Good flight! Yay on your great weekend! :-)
