Crush of Shame 3: RETURN OF THE LIBIDO!!!

Honestly, this is going to be the only way to stop me posting random pictures of boys on proper threads. (Well, the Jeff Goldblum pix were all over a non-tthread anyway, so they dont count.)

When I was 19, I had the most shameful crush of them all. I randomly googled in an idol (ha ha, a Freudian slip but I'll leave it) moment and discovered he's still hot!!! Even if he has got short hair now.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no, and I hit submit and forgot to supply a picture. So that it seems less shameful, I'll post pictures of him pretending to be various members of Spacemen 3:

Look I'm Sonic:

Look, I'm Jason:

http://www.gunsnroses.gr/images/Old%20Gnr/Izzy%2012000-12999/12009.jpg

I am so ashamed. But my god, he's still hotttttttttttt!!!!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate will well remember my claim of Guns'n'Roses as the ultimate Boy Band, she will...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 June 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh heh, I have just referred my friend Kaliflwr over here so I will post a random picture of Jeff Goldblum (who she refuses to acknowledge the sexiness of) here so she knows that I've gone as far down as I can, so she can post all the goop she likes! Weh-hoo!

Ned, you may be right about that Boyband thing. Check out Boy Crazy USA!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, that was five minutes of fun. Bored now. How can broadband get so tedious so fast? I'm gonna go check out the 600 channels of digital TV and see if one of them has Time Team or CSI on.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Be afraid.

Be very afraid.

That's a whole lotta ass.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 12 June 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Good lord, that's horny teenage boybutt. What are you trying to do to me?

I can remember the exact moment that my libido returned. Cis and Collete and I were sitting in the sun on Broadway Market talking about ... something ... and conversation just stopped as our attention had been completely diverted by this tall, lanky, floppy-blond-haired boy riding lazily by on a bicycle eating a sandwich. Oh good lord.

Tee hee, Kaliflwr, I am *going* to make you post. You are not going to get away with holding up placards that say "Yes, lovely" at me this time!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

And BTW, on that TT photo, does anyone else see a kind of Last Supper/Judas thing going on there with Robbie, even at such an early stage? All of the boys have their heads turned one way, while Robbie - THE TRAITOR - has his head turned the other. I'm sure there's a secret Masonic plot behind that somewhere.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Sunday, 13 June 2004 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Gary & Robbie, the talented ones, can confidently show Classic British Pasty Arse, none of this tanned nonsense.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 13 June 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh heh. So true, so true.

Still trying to persuade Kaliflwr to post her Crush Of Shame, but she won't, she thinks people will laugh.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't know if this really counts as a "crush" since I wake up with him more mornings than not, but still the only one I'm thinking of:

Bam who?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not exactly sure why it's a crush of shame, but:

http://www.thedelays.co.uk/IMAGES/GALLERY/live-27.jpg

I don't even think I'm particularly ashamed of this one. I saw the video yesterday at my friend's house, and he kept holding up large cardboard signs going "KATE ST.CLAIRE, PLEASE ADORE ME, CAN I PAINT YOUR TOENAILS?!?!?"

Ah, walking in a Moogie Wonderland...

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 06:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Trying to find a picture of him without a big microphone in his face...

The one on the left, i.e. the one without the trucker hat, clearly.

Can you see that sign he's holding up? Can you see it? Can anyone else see it but me and Catty? That big one that says KATE ST.CLAIRE I WANT TO SUCK YOUR TOES!!!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:09 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I'm going to stop littering up JW's threads on ILM in case he decides to make turnaround fair play...

But just look at these glasses! He's got funny blue ILX glasses, too!

This is too much for my poor hormones to take. Sigh.

People love Gravity and Evolution! (kate), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I could have sworn I posted the "pretending to be John Taylor" pictures on this thread. Oh no, where did they go?

People love Gravity and Evolution! (kate), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
OK, this is might be the MOST shameful (I typed MOIST shameful by mistake, whoops, Freudian) one yet, but the GURL on the left clearly wants to paint my toesnails.

Gah, the shame. He's pretty! Such a shame about the music, though.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I still have this thing for Gordon Brown. I don't know why, but I'd really like to find out what's in his budget box.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 10 September 2004 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It might that that weird hand thing that he does, Anna, I think:

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm really disappointed because he doesn't look that pretty in any other photos I can google up of him.

He was on the cover of some fashion rag though, recently, wasn't he? I remember seeing them plastered all over Shoreditch and thinking "Hmmm!" and then being terribly ashamed when I read who it was. Suck.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

That bottom one of Mr Brown is a Hugh Grant pose.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone please find me pictures of Carl Barat, please? The official site has a bloody SOUNDTRACK and I'm just not going to have to put up with that godawful racket in order to satisfy my lust, no, I'm sorry, there's some degredations I will not endure.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah Hendy was supposed to be leaving price-drop.tv in August, but it's September and she's still here. This makes me very happy.

http://www.sarahhendy.com/media/images/05_8599.jpg

I've just discovered she now has an official website. That's the afternoon taken care of...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Somebody please help me! I don't want to have to put up with that racket on the offical site to find photos, but I'm not doing a very good job by myself. What horridible edgy style magazine type thing had him on the cover last month? I'm sure they won't force me to endure drunken Clash fans falling down the stairs.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it's not my imagination. He didn't used to be that pretty. Maybe it's just a good photo or something. He looks particularly dazed and stupid and dirty. God, help me.

http://microsites.nme.com/gallery/lg/0000001559.jpg

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my fucking god. Sarah does music reviews on her site...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

This is really hurting me. I keep finding these intensely homoerotic poses which - if it were ANYONE IN THE WORLD but Cabbage Patch Junkie Kid as the slashee - I would find the ultimate most amazing horny thing in the world, but just the site of his pop-eyes and puffed out cheeks utterly ERASES ANY LUSTFUL IMPULSES FROM MY MIND. Ugh! Ugh! It's just not fair!

http://www.sanctuaryrecords.de/libertines/chatham202L.jpg

Please, can someone with photoshop skills just photoshop someone else's head onto his body?

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

WHY GOD, WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?????

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

You've gone too far this time, Kate. Can't you revive yr prevertalist lust for James Busted instead? Eurgh Libertines slash.

He looks like Alan Cumming in that latest picture - you can fancy him surely. He likes girls as well as boys.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I just can't. He is the living personification of ANTI-LUST. He could deflate a porno set. But he has the prettiest boy in Shoreditch draped around his neck, clutching his mantits. I am in pain!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

No he's holding him up if you look!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Like I said... if it was ANYONE ELSE... it would be the HORNIEST THING EVAH!!!

But it's Beauty and The Beast, innit?

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It's so not fair. I mean, the expression on his face here is so clearly HE STAYS, YOU GO!!!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe he's trying to snap his neck?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes! Yes! I like that interpretation better! "I'll freaking snap your neck, you pencil-necked geek! That's the woman that I love! Kate!"

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, I really want to make one of those my wallpaper, but

1) I don't want to have to look at Garbage Patch Kid's popeyed mug

2) I do *NOT* want anyone at work thinking I'm a ::shudders:: Libertines fan.

But my god, he's hott!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know what just reminded me of this (hah) but I suddenly just remembered, Joe started quoting The Clash at me yesterday in the middle of one of his big inspirational speech type things. I didn't say anything at the time, but thinking about that, it's hillarious! He freaking HATED The Clash when we got together, and used to take the piss out of me for even owning their albums. And now he's quoting them at me as evidence of his philosophy of life? I don't know why, but that makes me laugh. Like, at least, I had some kind of influence on him. (Though he will never admit it.)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Why does posting pictures of shaggy rock boys inspire the shaggy rock boys of ILX to get haircuts? Shouldn't it have the opposite effect? Wah!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 10 September 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I did a goole image search for "hawkwind" after that clash/jam thread on ilm and found this:

Damn, krowr!! Mighty Stacia!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 September 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost - this shaggy rock boy hasn't been really that shaggy rock lately (and is hoping for some job interviews soon).

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 10 September 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(NB that there are some good '70's HW pics at that site, although 2/3 of them are of Stacia w/o any clothes on)

OK I just googles "libertines slash fiction" and one of the hits that popped up is:

My Top Five Favourite Rock'N'Roll Slash Stories...
1. This is what I lost my slash virginity to. It's my favourite... Morrissey/Franz Ferdinand rent-boy scenario!
2. Yummy Suede/Libertines slash goodness... Bernard Butler & Carlos Barat love affair.
3. Carlos and Peter (The Libertines) slash with some leather and mild sado-masochism... *dies*
4. Blur (Damon Albarn and Graham Coxen) slash! From teenage boys to blow jobs and tea.
5. Alex James and Jarvis Cocker build a fort (and get it on)!
Honorable Mentions
1. Libertines (Peter/Carl)... Elevator sex!
2. Morrisey/NME slash!
3. Libertines (Peter/Carl)... In a swimming pool!
4. Mike Joyce/Andy Rourke (The Smiths) slash!
5. Libertines (Peter/Carl)... Before the fame!

Good god y'all.

OK, I had to close down the window real quick as my boss asked me to do something, DAMMIT, right when Carl and Bernard were all... OH JUST SHOOT ME NOW!!!!!

(Maybe I'm secretly *trying* to get sacked. But if I'm not going to get sacked for this, I don't think I ever will...)

5. Alex James and Jarvis Cocker build a fort (and get it on)!

This is the greatest sentence ever written on ILE.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 September 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Uuuhhh... what? Is that a crush of shame, or are you mocking me?

Neither! I probably should have posted that on a "separated at birth" thread.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 13 September 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, OK. No, wait a minute YOU ARE MOCKING ME! WAAAAHHHHH!!!

(OK, I'm a bit manic today, help!)

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 13 September 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK COOKING A HAT!!!!

"Maybe you should give this whole baking fiasco a rest..."

Jarvis lunges forward into the oven and drags a smoldering-something out from the back of the oven with a spatula. "It was me hat! Not the muffins!" He announces, seemingly satisfied.

"That's your hat?" Alex raises a skeptical eyebrow.

"Yeah."

"Why was it in your oven?"

"Well, I didn't use it really, so I kept all my hats in there. I thought I'd gotten them all, but I guess not, yeah?"

This is just frankly bizarre!

Oh my lord, I had forgotten about this HAIRCRUSH OF SHAME:

iwww.thelwordonline.com/sho_stills27.jpg

My bassist made me watch it after rehearsal on Wednesday, kicking and screaming and protesting because I hate lesbians and all, but I got totally sucked in and hooked, and my god, she just has the best hair ever. Sigh.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 17 September 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I could find a picture of the Dirty Dronerock one that I got. He really had indierock hair. And a hat. Uuuuuuhhhhh...

That's the "Jammin In Jamaica" version, he's clearly stoned out of his gourd, and the humidity is giving him the edge of a Jewfro.

But yeah, that amp is shite. Even Beyond Pink Barbie had a better amp than that!

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 17 September 2004 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Fucking 'ell... copy and paste the above image into the browser, then.

Here's another photo of my new boyfriend, but it's still not the dirty dronerock one that I have:

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 17 September 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Begs2Differ, there's no shame in that last crush! She's kind of pretty in an oddball way, is a good actress, and has been in lots of great movies and TV shows. Too bad I can't remember her name right now.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 8 October 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

But she was in To Die For and Ghost World! That totally makes her crush-worthy.

Rosie Perez is hot! Or at least she was in White Men Can't Jump, I haven't seen her in anything in like 10 years. But she was hot back then! No shame required there either. The Nicole Richie thing, though...I'm not going to be able to back you up there.

I don't see any shame there either, she's cute AND funny AND willing to make herself look bad for the sake of a joke. I think Rachel Dratch might be more of a Crush of Shame.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 8 October 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll own up to that one! (dratch that is, she's kinda cute when she's not being intentionally ugly)

The more I think about it, the more I realise that I fancy all the Blue Peter presenters at the mo; there's the blonde one who isn't from Northern Ireland, and the blonde one who is.

Terrific. Kate has a crush on skinny noise-sters, and I crush Blue Peter presenters. This might say something intrinsic about our characters. Or it might not.

You know that when it's hard to find a picture of your crush with clothes on, it's definitely a "crush of shame." Also, her Emmy speech was at the time the most giggly, idiotic thing I've seen on television, and has been eclipsed now only by that horrible travel show with Cameron Diaz. Still, Teri Hatcher. MmmmmmmmMILF!

My crush on Dr. Who-Eccleston was instantaneous, I tell you! But I think I've had crushes on various Dr Who's since childhood, which helps explain it. Or helps explain something anyway...

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

It's not exactly a crush of shame, but I've developed a sudden thing for Trent Reznor. I've never been that bothered by NIN, but yesterday I was writing a mini-NIN fact file for a WAP site and BANG suddentrentcrush.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 21 April 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

Trent Reznor? Omigod, that is truly crush of SHAME, but then again, I've heard too much gossip about him from my goff friends in the States.

Nothing wrong with crushing Blue Peter presenters. I crush a Culture Show presenter which is like the grownup version of Blue Peter.

And I know my love for Carlos Barat is wrong, wrong, wrong, but I cannot help it. He mistquotes Voltaire at me and I go all wibbly at the knees.

Though James Busted has been out on £700 drinking binges lately because he misses me so much. Clearly.

Lapdog Shoesnog (kate), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

anna, trent is like 5'4". i'm serious.

I fancy everyone today, Beck, my temporary boss, people I've not seen for four years, one of Bloc Party.

Look, I'm as surprised as the rest of you with my sudden industrial goth love. But, yes, even though most people I go out with are over six foot it might do me good to fancy someone my own height for a change.

Spill gossip this evening please.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

Come on, Anna, he's into, sick and twisted shit, like... GOLF.

That's too much for me.

Lapdog Shoesnog (kate), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

Bloc Party ARE quite attractive. They are almost as perfectly packaged as your average boyband. There's the wonky hair one that all the teenage girls will love, and then the other more serious looking ones for the older women.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

there are worse things than fancying trent reznor.
worst possible option is ian astbury during his native american southern death cult phase.
or how about edwina currie. i worked with a bloke who had a thing about her and deial smith - he was my age.
i suppose delia is vaguely understandable in the sense that he was a norwich city fan, you could get shitfaced with her and you'd get a good breakfast the following morning, but edwina currie, really?

is she an estate agent?

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Thursday, 21 April 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

No, She is a talking head from MSNBC. I haven't had televison in years, but she used to be on one of the 24 hour news channels when I did. I found her to be embarassingly attractive.

She totally does look like a realtor. I used to do printing work for a company that had real estate ties. I had a long time crush on one of realtors that did regular work with us. I think there is something perverse about realtors; they look so conservative and hooked into consensus reality that you imagine them being completely bananas in the bedroom when the shades are drawn.

Of course, the reality of the situation is that they are completely boring, slight paunchy, middle-aged people with two kids. They are move concerned with gourmet food and getting enough sleep after the kids are in bed than anything particularly lurid or unspeakable. Still, you hope that there is something unconventional going on like bdsm or wifeswapping to make the burbs seem just a little less tedious and respectable.

Wilson is very pretty in an odd sort of way. Haven't you seen Zoolander, Kate? It's very funny, and he's good in that. He was also in Shanghai Noon, but that totally sucked.

I'm almost more surprised that Kate hasn't watched The Royal Tenenbaums. Shanghai Noon is great, it's the first film of his I saw. Though you do have to like Jackie Chan.

I get the impression that young Mr Harris has a bit of his dad in him. Not pretty, but catnip to the ladies.

When one crushes on an actor, does one crush on the actor himself, or the role?

I've been looking at other films Jared Harris was in, and I've seen many of them, and never really noticed him.

So I really don't think it's him that I'm crushing on, but Captain Anderson. That weirdo. He likes plants better than people - I think I relate to him. :-|

Masonic Boom (kate), Friday, 29 July 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

OK, time for an update on my recent shameful sexualist crushes:

1) Norma Winstone, the great British jazz singer. Saw her on the Jazz Britannia thing on BBC2 on Friday night. I've always fancied her but at 64 she's still utterly gorgeous, the missing link between Vera Lynn and Roisin Murphy. Sexual without seemingly trying to be.

2) The "Green Goddesses" team I saw on an early morning (4 am!) rerun of Scrapheap Challenge last week, especially the diminutive, cute-but-sneaky leader. I have quite a thing for jolly hockey sticks types (tho' they were actually sexier in their IRL garb of chemists with white coats, oh where's the Xtreme Cheddar...?).

3) I now have a full portfolio of shameful sexualist crushes on GMTV female presenters. Always thought Kate Garraway was the personification of Fenella Frump, but I caught her on Big Brother Little Brother the other teatime. God, she's so much more fanciable when she lets her hair down, gets out of the Primark stuff and smiles knowingly.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 5 August 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

The captain's very first words in the drama are a booming rebuke to Talbot, who has broken the ship's rules by stepping uninvited on to the quarter-deck. "Who the devil is this?" shouts Anderson. "By Christ, am I to be outfaced on my own deck by every ignorant bastard?"

i would KILL to have hair that well-behaved.

the goulash archipelago (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Surely it would be even more creepy fun to send spies to hang around Cambridge, in an attempt to spot me with her, then the paparazzi shots could end up plastered all over ILX.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

That IS great hair. Especially compared to later Linda:

I've spent many a futile hour trying to get my thick wavy hair to look like hers.

I've spent many an hour trying to get my pathetic thin slightly frizzy hair to look like hers. :-(

Damn, I've gone about 10 posts without a Jared Harris picture. This is wrong!

Alec Tea-Skirt (kate), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

If I end up saying "OTOH, Jared Harris naked" on one more thread, I'm going to shoot myself.

Sometimes he looks so hott:

I've grown to like Stephanie Birkett, the foil on the David Letterman show who he calls by various names. For a while she seemed to be not in on the joke (flat delivery of all her lines), but I'm thinking now she is. Kind of a tomboy, but lately she's been wearing make-up and dresses, maybe because she wants to parlay this bit into some kind of career. When she walks away up the aisle she still stomps away like a man, though.

About a month ago I made an image collage of all my biggest current celeb crushes, both shameful and not-so. E.g., Christian Bale = not shameful. Steve Jansen = not shameful. Um, second row, first two pictures -- that would be Paul Merton and Preston Sharp (from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"):

David Merryweather Goes To Far (scarlet), Sunday, 21 August 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

This was meant to go on this thread:

How tall is Boris Johnson IRL?

I swear, his double just came down from the brokers' floor and wandered across our floor looking hott and blond before disappearing back upstair again with a big file folder (hah I originally type bile folder) - except I think he was a bit too tall for the real thing (I suspect. Boris Johnson just looks like he's short.)

Mind you, I'm not sure which I would be more disturbed by. The actual Boris Johnson in our office, or an actual HOTT bloke working in my office.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

I used to (please note the past tense) have a terrible crush of shame on Jools Holland. I am giggling this morning as a colleague has pointed out that he always put the emphasis on the wrong syllables when introducing bands. "Here we have bloc PARTY and the go TEAM!"

Anna (Anna), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

I reckon it's because that's when the handsweep is reaching its apex. I can't remember where I read a review of a Moloko single where the reviewer said that he's incapable of reading their name without hearing/seeing Joolz's "And now please welcome!"

Pointy noses are not a seccondary sex characteristic! I mean, no one ever got an operation to make their nose more pointy... oh wait. Hrmmm. Never mind.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Monday, 19 September 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

I am developing an small thing about the guy who works in the coffee place near my office. He's adorable and he has two small blue dots tatooed on each temple and a hard-to-place European accent. He gives me marshmallows and makes patterns on my take-out bag with the free-coffee-stamp stamper. I put lipstick on to buy a latte. (That is the very shameful bit.)

Obviously I will never do anything (boyfriend is lovely etc), it's kind of like fancying a pop star I can speak to. Plus, I'm not entirely sure he's straight.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

Someone talk to me about this, before I decide to go and buy another coffee...

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Go and buy another coffee!

Crushes make the world go round!

(I didn't say that. Wait, yes I did.)

The Brocade Fire (kate), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of which, I want another coffee. I do not have a crush on the coffeemaker, though, as it is a machine. And I am strictly not in love with any machines.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

The blue dots and rectangular glasses give him a slight man-machine air.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

I nearly lost my breakfast when I opened Saturday's Guardian to see Damien Hurst fiddling with his willy. I mean, really.

Oh well at least I will never have to worry about you stealing my men Kate as our tastes are obviously very different!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

No one ever shares my taste in men.

And the men I have a taste for never share a taste in me.

Ah, the world is a beastly unfair place.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Actually I'm having another one of my 'I fancy everyone' days. The work experience boy is a bit of a honey. Then five minutes ago:
"When did the Futureheads *record* their album, not release it?"
"Don't know I'll look."
*goes to producer Paul Epworth's site*
"Ooooohhhhh.*

Down hormones, down.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

I've having an "I fancy no one" day I guess. Which I find more irritating and wrong. Up, hormones, up!

Nicky Wire and Alex James: the more they age, the more they look the same. A phenomenon discovered earlier today.

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Thursday, 22 September 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

Except for Alex James' dodgy beard. That is just wrong.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Thursday, 22 September 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

I suspect Alex James on I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here will ruin him for you.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Thursday, 22 September 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

I adored Alex James as an hormonal 16-year-old. The news he has gone reality depressed me beyond measure. He's a city creature. He's made for designed bars and louche clubs and casual cigarette smoking and tarmac.

Does anyone remember that brief window of time wherein AJ strongly resembled a potato head? I'm not talking about when he was simply fat, this was a seperate issue altogether (although there was a time overlap). Someone find an image...

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Thursday, 22 September 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

The late fear and the potato fear! It was around the time they were recording the Great Escape and out getting awards for Parklife every night. I remember that - he had to be airbrushed on the cover of the album, didn't he?

(See also M@tt Th0rn3, another hottie gone potato.)

The Brocade Fire (kate), Thursday, 22 September 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

Haha, they airbrushed out his double chin on the liners of Parklife, yes! I think this is during his (years-long) champagne "phase".

Crush of shame revive: it was the Mighty Boosh thread what done it, my squashed down crush on Noel Fielding has bloomed. I know a lot of people fancy Noel Fielding and there's not anything that shameful in it, but the fact (as I mentioned on the Boosh thread) that we share a last name makes it a bit icky. Is there a way of finding out if we are distant cousins or not?

I saw him walking about in east London once. This does not constitute a close, personal "so tell me my little sex muffin, do you think we are kissing cousins" relationship.

Oh I like the look of Dr Olivia, where's she from? Have always hated Dr Bettany though, she has no dress sense and is always sort of gaunt looking.

I had a brief but terrible crush of shame on Steve Coogan when I saw the cover of Sight and Sound. His looks seem to improve as his personality gets worse...

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I think i like the idealised version in my head better. I haven't watched CBB for days now. I did try to explain it to Marianna on the bus, but I was drunk and I fear I was doing conversational looping and odd tangents.

Look, it will go away soon, promise. The IRL crush is much much cuter.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Plus, I was unaware of the racism. Deal breaker.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Oh I like the look of Dr Olivia, where's she from? Have always hated Dr Bettany though, she has no dress sense and is always sort of gaunt looking.
-- Archel (slightlyfoxe...), January 24th, 2006. (later)

I'm not sure about Dr Olivia's origins - although I believe she works at Imperial College, London at present - she veers from a posh (and filthy sounding) English accent to an awful mid-atlantic thing.

Dr Bettany (apart from her other obvious attributes) has cheekbones and a sense of humour, which is good enough for me.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I meant is she on TV or something I guess. But my phrasing was lazy, sorry.

Recent ridiculously OTT crush, shameful only because like, I'm not 15 so I dont know where this has come from:

http://www.memorygongs.com/Mick%20Karn.jpg

Mmmm DAMN he is aging nicely.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 July 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

Holy crap, is that really Mick Karn? Who knew he could look so -- hot? Oh wait.

http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~lenin/mkarnbio10.jpg

This picture is pretty hot. WAIT A DAMN MINUTE. Mick Karn + hot = does not compute.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 21 July 2006 03:41 (nineteen years ago)

I know! I think growing his eyebrows back and aging did him a world of good, or something. Like holy hell.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 July 2006 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

And at one point he had long hair: HELLO BABY

http://www.thewire.co.uk/back/images/122.jpg

(I hope that link works)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 July 2006 03:51 (nineteen years ago)

You're damn right re: "aging did him a world of good". I think he's one of the few males out there who actually didn't look good when he was thin and young and his cheekbones were more prominent. And -- oh my God, Mick Karn needs to have longer hair more regularly.

My current "crush of shame" (not taking into account the sudden fondness I have for Mr. Karn) is of someone who, in the '80s, looked precisely what my ideal male would look like. I'm not kidding you, this is my masculine gold standard personified. What's shameful about having this crush, however, is knowing who he'd end up becoming...

http://www.thephoenix.com/SlopCulture/content/binary/seona_dancing.gif

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 21 July 2006 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

Why do I feel like I should know who that is but can't quite put my finger on it?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 July 2006 04:35 (nineteen years ago)

Because he ended up becoming one of the most famous and critically well-received comedians of this decade? That's all I'm saying about him, though. Saying who he is (even though it's the 1984 version of him that I'm in serious lust with) would be too embarrassing.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 21 July 2006 04:44 (nineteen years ago)

it's larry the cable guy!

Nunca Llueve (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 21 July 2006 04:46 (nineteen years ago)

OH DEAR GOD NO. I'd have offed myself if that were the case.

You know, come to think of it, there ARE a lot more embarrassing candidates for this slot than I thought, so. That young man was Ricky Gervais from Gervais's New Romantic days with Seona Dancing (the band name partly responsible for my board name). (Though that's because I really do like their music. Swearsies.)

(Besides, I said "critically well-received". Not counting Bubba Joe's Fishin' Hole Journal.)

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 21 July 2006 05:25 (nineteen years ago)

WOW! who could have guessed that could turn into THAT!

miele kitty (miele), Friday, 21 July 2006 05:32 (nineteen years ago)

Precisely. There are more pictures of Ricky and his SD bandmate Bill Macrae on what's billed as "the only website dedicated to Seona Dancing". I'd highly recommend it, especially since it features actual SD mp3s. You'll get to hear Ricky Gervais (back when he was a major hottie and a half) sing pop tunes!

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 21 July 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

WOAH that was Ricky Gervais!? OMG.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 July 2006 06:06 (nineteen years ago)

I... no... no I cant even see it!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 July 2006 06:06 (nineteen years ago)

Really? I was expecting you to go, 'OHHH. That's why he looked vaguely familiar." But I can completely understand why you'd be as surprised as you are. The boy looked gorgeous at a particular phase in his life, didn't he?

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 21 July 2006 06:19 (nineteen years ago)

He certainly looks rather nice in that newromo androgynous kinda way yeah! Very suprised, and no not at all who I was expecting. I was thinking itd be Steve Strange or someone, I dunno (and i mean have you SEEN how HE looks nowdays erwgh)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 July 2006 06:43 (nineteen years ago)

Point taken re: Steve Strange, though hopefully he's sorted himself out lately. Come to think of it, isn't Adam Ant looking not that fanciable these days? Thankfully Phil Oakey, Martin Fry, the Kemp brothers, and Tony Hadley hardly aged a bit. So. There you are. I'd post more RG photos ca. Seona Dancing, but I don't want to steal that site's bandwidth, so I'll just encourage you to go to that site post haste.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 21 July 2006 07:08 (nineteen years ago)

Jimmy Mod: THE HANDLESS ORGANIST (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Sunday, 23 July 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

Ha. Gotcha. Still, the other party doesn't need to know you exist to have said party be a "crush of shame", I don't think. It's not like Ricky Gervais and I are on a first-name basis or anything. ;)

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Sunday, 23 July 2006 01:03 (nineteen years ago)

I now have one of the ultimate crushes of shame to admit to: I have a crush on my realtor. Who's married, with a child. I blame his gorgeous eyes. Which, BTW, I can afford to catch many, many glimpses of, as he's shorter than me by about one to two inches (!). I'm hoping this is just a quick infatuation with someone whom I find gorgeous. I get those a lot. Yeah, it's probably just silly infatuation. I'll just keep on telling myself that.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Thursday, 27 July 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

Phil Oakey, hardly aged a bit, don't make me laugh.

Ed (dali), Friday, 28 July 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

Silver Machine Manor (kate), Friday, 28 July 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

Captain Anderson looks like Frasier Crane in that picture.

Phil Oakey is a perfectly acceptable answer.

I met with my realtor this afternoon and it took every ounce of restraint I had not to jump him. I know that kind of thinking is not healthy. But -- his eyes! And his lips, and his smile, and his nose, and his cheekbones.
