This is the thread for the protracted discussion of all proposed meeting points, camping spots, essential items, bands to avoid, requests for narcotics*, and other ephemera surrounding this year's Glastonbury Festival...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

*not really, your honour.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie I'll have half a ki....oh hang on!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

half a kit bag?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it's better than half a farthing! just ask tommy Steele.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The only thing I am planning is to be in front of the Other Stage on Saturday and Sunday night. As there are hardly any bands I really want to see, I'm looking forward to just drifting a bit this year, wandering about, meeting random people and friends for beer, playing the whole thing by ear, having the kind of Glastonbury broadsheet writers always pretend they've had.

Ronan and I are going on the brain machine, though. He promised about four months ago.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC is otm here. Pretty shitty line up this year, so maybe me & James will just get married!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite like the idea of waking up in a field with zero memory of the night before and slowly realising I have a new sham wife, Vegas-style.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! I am NO sham wife!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(Is Jimmy Pursey married, btw?)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What, you mean you're actually going to marry James, instead of some random hippy? Where's your sense of adventure?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

BBC says full sun now back for Thursday!!!. (actually I'd rather it was a bit cooler on Thursday, what with bags and stuff).

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK THE WEATHER, LET'S DANCE!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, he is the only person I'd consider going near in a rudey manor after 4 days of not washing!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You're planning not to wash?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Well you wont be able to have a leisurely bath there will you!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I insist on an African pit douche every morning.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

You know what I mean!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that a method of a euphemism? heh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

OK - what about ETAs for people? I'm leaving London at about 6:30AM. Your guess is as good as mine about when I'll actually be there, but I'll be there before all you coach people. I could try to prepare an area for any of you coach people who want to camp SW-stylee.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

We are leaving cambridge at 6.00 in the morning!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

after playing football in the driving rain yesterday i'm ready for anything

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Allegedly leaving London at 9am, but my driver's legendary inability to do anything on time ever ever may yet put paid to that idea.

ETA: probably about 4pm. Not camping with you monkeys though, setting up a rogue camp elsewhere...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah we wont be camping with you lot I guess!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

so no ILX super-camp, then? boo :(

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm getting a 9.30 train from paddington, should be on site 12ish? camping in the green fields, as ever.

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going up with 3 other people (3 tents between us), one of whom i don't know, so basically i'm trying to find/organise/join you lovely folks somewhere, the more the merrier... (but of course don't want to upset the social balance if some of you have already agreed camping teams, etc. it's ok, really. *sniff*)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, er, I don't think that anyone's really organised anything beyond the gang of us who are going on the bus together.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Rob, I'm going with about 10 other ppl, the only reason I can't say where I'll be is down to the fact that I have no idea. We're hoping to meet up on the thursday though, you can have my mob number if you like, not that i think it'll be any use!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The glasto plan: Brothers bar, 7pm, Thursday. All other plans are fictions, and will melt in direct sunlight/direct rain.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

good plan andrew! although i'm more concerned about where to pitch ye ol tent when i get there. i will likely arrive well before the bus people, which will make it tricky...

if someone can post a slick site map (one that is indexed?) then we can compare notes about our rough plans for camping areas. obviously we won't know diddly squat about exact spots until we get there, so anyone who is trying to camp together, speak up, exchange mobile #'s, etc... i'm aiming to camp in SW or greenfields.

(no i'm not trying to be the steering committee - that would be a near-impossible task!)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

am i harshing everyone's buzz now? haha

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the alternatives are:

1) You're not camping with us.
2) You hang around, tent unpitched, until we arrive.
3) You find a space for a dozen tents, pitch your tent and defend the area against all comers until we arrive. Then we camp by the New Bands Tent anyway.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

(those are not in order of preference!)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

haha that's pretty much what i figured andrew! since options 2 and 3 mentalism of the highest order, i may have to just accept that i'll be camping somewhere with strangers, which is fine by me. mind you this can be a bit of a crapshoot...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

um, depending on how the f**tball goes tonight, there might be an england match at 7.45 on the thursday...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I've made arrangements for a 2-1 win by Croatia tonight, it shouldn't be a problem.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew, if that actually IS the scoreline, then Mark C's prediction on the other thread will be correct.

Fuck this early evening shit - Brothers Bar from 5.00 Thursday. Then we can go wander and watch/listen to the footy if need be. Also Lock Tavern Friday night after the bands are over. We can organise mini day meetups as and when via the miracle of mobile telephones.

There is also the possibility they're not showing it AT ALL, in which case someone needs to bring a radio.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Which one's the other thread? He's not on the Glasto Thread.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm talking about his prediction that an Ilx0r would die at Glasto.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Possibly lynched by Haree Krishnas after one too many shouts of "Barry!" or licked bald heads.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be bringing a radio.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't suppose any of you know if Tom's Big Project was finished before he went on holiday?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

So where's best to camp then guys?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That reminds me - I saw something about home-made vibrators on the web.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

PP - the south is best, but the ILE steering committee is lazy and insists on not walking anywhere past the New Bands field.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I am making a mix tape.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

for why is the south so cool? i don't get it - it all seems to be miles from any action, much like south london now i come to think of it.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a feeling we're going to end up in the first place we find big enough to cope with 19 people in about 12 tents.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It depends what sort of action you are talking about, Charlie. It's a voibe thing.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a feeling we're going to end up in the first place we find big enough to cope with 19 people in about 12 tents.

Is OTM.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm worried enough about finding sufficient space for six tents and this...

http://www.argos.co.uk/wcsstore/argos/images/6502210A61IFN128230M.JPG

...(wot I just bought) so I wish you all luck in your quest to find what essentially needs to be A COMPLETELY EMPTY FIELD.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna camp with charlie!!
Anna - we have made a mix tape for the journey too!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, I'm sure we'll find somewhere </mindless optimism>

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

for why is the south so cool? i don't get it - it all seems to be miles from any action, much like south london now i come to think of it.

i rather like this remark. although i'm not entirely sure i agree with it.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Anna - we have made a mix tape for the journey too!

i don't think that's what anna's tape is for.

charlie - how much did that ridiculous looking thing cost?!

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

They are dirt cheap from Argos.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah well, i obviously misunderstood!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not being funny, but last year, when we arrived at about noon on Thursday, there probably *was* space for about 12 tents and Charlie's gazebo in the SW field we camped in! In two nearby groups, anyway. I hope I don't seem like a pain - I'm quite happy to camp wherever rather than on my own and I promise not to say "This wouldn't happen in the South" all weekend.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, the gazebo set me back a pretty impressive fifteen quid. i reckon it's worth it, since it's handy for both sun and r41n.

and, let's face it, IT'S A GAZEBO. Say it: gazzzzzeeeeeeebooooooo...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Gay-ze-bo.

You're right!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

it is pretty gay isn't it? fuck it, the haters will be clamouring for an inch of space when it starts pissing down. wonder if you can light a fire under it?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Fire under roof without chimney = smoke hell.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, but what's it gonna look like with a chimney on it?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Gazebos are great. I wonder why they're always that colour scheme, though.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

it's so they are sympathetic to the surrounding environment, ie a sea of orange and bright blue tents

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

can't believe nobody's marvelling at the comic genius of my fantastic Tamperer joke...*sulks*

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be tending at one of the W0rkers Beer tents. If somebody recognises me, please say "hi d0g" and give me the thumbs up. I will try my best to get you a d1scount.

d0g l4tin (dog latin), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Doglatin - post a picture!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC, I can't, I'm at work and it's too risky. If you've been on the I HATE CLUBBING thread, there's an abundance of photos there. I think there's pics on my livejournal and on my OKCupid account (search: "akendoha") I will post a pic when i get home.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/images/map-2002-1.gif

shall we camp in the triangle with the black rectangle in it?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Woah, has the New Bands tent MOVED?

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent! Even less distance to walk for when we camp RIGHT NEXT TO IT.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

annoyingly the site map on the official site is the 2002 version so assuming they haven't changed anything

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

That map is v.different from the one I got with my tickets.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the difference?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

New bands tent is two fields further south, lock up is to the south of the buspark, W21 isn't marked, W22 is much further south etc etc

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

*gulp*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

who to trust, the website or the ticket? everyone just camp round there tho kay thanx bye?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I am still a massive fan of the field at the top, directly overlooking the Pyramid Stage, if only for the view of Glastonbury Tor. Might be a bit difficult to find space for such a large number of people though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't want to camp there personally cos it means having to listen to all the FUCKING SHITE on the main stage in the daytime when you're too ruined to move...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

There is no ruin that a breakfast baguette, a pint of orange juice from the big juicing stall and a late morning beer cannot cure.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

but how do you acquire such things when you're too ruined to move?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Anywhere near the Pyramid stage NOOOO!!! Also, it always looks like people in that field would roll down the hill at night. ALSO - don't you get the stink from the sewerage block there??

As for the map - as stevem, says, the one he's posted is marked 'map-2002', so I wouldn't trust it (no idea why they haven't updated it). I do have a vague idea that the New Bands tent was in a different place last year to 2002, which would explain things.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I get a select group of people WHO WOULDN'T HAVE A TICKET AT ALL WERE IT NOT FOR ME to carry me, preferably in a sedan chair. I thought we'd already discussed this?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I really don't give a shit where we camp - I'm planning on spending such a minimal amount of time around my tent anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

my previous camping spots

99 - workers enclosure (despite not actually working - best camping place evah for the toilets and peaceful vibe but of course a bit cut off from camping masses/menkos) - you need to know someone working at the site to camp here obv.

00 - on the hill facing the Pyramid stage and Tor in the distance. not bad really except for having to listen to rubbish afternoon performers

02 - field behind and to the right of Other Stage - decent enough but kinda meh

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

but i definitely vote near New Bands tent for the coach mob (and i'm surprised you aren't Matt, travelling light are we?)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I've realised that all my talk of SW voibe and all really comes down to the toilets being nicer.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ummmm, that and proximity to greenfields...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Well yeah, but I don't think everyone is so into that.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I love getting away from it all in the Greenfields though, yes. But I am a hippy.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

people who don't like the greenfields = fules. may as well go to the bloody reading festival...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

surely no-one here has an aversion to the greenfields? it's one of the best parts of the whole experience, no? clearly i am also a hippie. i should just get myself a teepee and be done with it...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The problem with the campsites near the greenfields is that every single student in the world goes "woah man, we're camping near the green fields, its so much cooler down there!" and by the time you get there you've walked eight miles only to find the field is already full to bursting point with 18 year olds waving poppers under each others noses and drinking from a yard of ale and then it rains and it turns into the Somme x1000. And this is based on actual real life experience (of Glastonbury, not of the Somme).

Steve makes a serious point in that the less distance I have to walk carrying all my luggage on okay-but-not-100% ankle the better. I'm not planning on fucking my leg up at least until 3am Saturday night in a bizarre ditch/dancing accident.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Green Fields very much, instantly, but I kind of like the long walk further and further from conventional festival into hippy land. But then I'm weird like that.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the SE fields get full very quickly, but the SW ones don't.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Glastonbury has more classic attendees because of the greenfields, but the actual greenfields = rub mostly. It's like homeopathy, man.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i've only ever camped near the green fields, i never really considered camping anywhere else. in the past one of the attractions was that it was relatively quite after hours (apart from the tribal drums from the stone circle lulling you to sleep, of course), however last year we were the only people making any noise there after about 4 am, so we felt a bit bad. maybe we have outgrown the greenfields campsite.

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow Matt - I won't debate SW with you since what you described sounds nasty, but suffice it to say that my SW experience was great. No students around me (most were around my age or older), up on the hill slightly so less chance of mud, easy access to other stage/dance tent/greenfields/glade, all of which I liked.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post the greenfields are classic not for all the homeopathy stalls but for things like dragons made out of leaves and beaches and other stoned shit to make you feel even weirder than you already do in the middle of the night.

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

and cafes selling warm chai 24 hours too, obviously

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm apparently camping on pennards hill. i don't know what that means.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ultimately, it's horses for courses.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It's on the southwest, closest bit to the Glade, if I remember corectly. A lovely place, we camped there first few years. Also close to the latrines by the glade, which are the best lavs in the whole festival.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

proper 2004 map http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/2004/fineguide/map.html

it's the same place as last year, but it has been known to be in a place diff to shown on map beforehand. JSL

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a good place to be camping if its your first Glastonbury, I think, as its relatively easy to find even at 3am. Camp away from the Glade though but I think your friends will have enough commonsense to do that, because even though it sure is pretty it is also noisy.

Can I just reiterate that the Glade is my favourite bit of the whole festival, especially in the early hours of the morning? God I'm excited.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It's also within easy walking distance of everything, pretty much.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Pennards Hill sounds a lot like where i camped in '02. i am just imagining everyone coming off the coach at 4pm (ha) and deciding to unload at the first unoccupied patch of green encountered.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Also close to the latrines by the glade, which are the best lavs in the whole festival.

i have no doubt that this is why jim picked the location...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt OTM about the Glade. Great yes. If you camp near it and want some sleep, um... use earplugs (DJs on very late there, and the speakers are outdoors)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

who else is coming on the coach other than Carsmile, Pete, Tom, Toby, Anna, Matt DC, Stevem, Alix, Sarah, Ricky T and YMOF - did i forget someone?

who else is going other than Dave B, N, Ken, Rob B, Sarah PP, Charlie, Colette and Ronan?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

that's at least NINE different ILX camping contingents as it is

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Magnus is on the coach as well, I'm pretty sure.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Which makes a nice even number for the coach.

Also G-Kit and Doglatin upthread.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not really a contingent but i'll be there with at least 2 other lurkers

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Lurkers field = underground.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

haha that reminds me of the guys who tried to get into the Big Day Out festival in Sydney last year by doing a spot of drain-crawling...they magically popped up right in front of a gaggle of passing security guards, two of the miscreants legged it successfully but the rest had to crawl *backwards* back to where they came in!

Now *that's* lurking...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i always forget Magnus cos he doesn't post. i also forgot Alan and Emma, who do post. ack.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

ACHTUNG! a very good map of the site, complete with field names (I was in "Home Park Ground" last year, apparently):

http://www.elliswalker.com/dwdotcom/

It was created by people from some *cough* other messageboard. They are super-mentalists because as you can see, the dots represent where each of them are planning to camp.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my God, you're camping with Suggs.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The mouseovers on that map are a vision of hell.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

New Bands area people might also be camping in woodies! Keep 'em in your pants, people.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post

So, if we made our own version with ILXors as dots we would somehow look different? Granted, we don't use names like 'yetanotheroldhippie' or 'venusvibetrap', but I'm just sayin'...

Clearly internet mentalists have taken over this years festival, as we learned from the ticket-buying thread...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

is Wicket ground full of Ewoks?

Where is the nearest hotel? If I ever go to Glastonbury, I'm not camping.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost - Or Greebo Baggins, yes. Carsmile and Pinkpanther are the only 'wacky' names we have.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

On this thread, yeah. We'd blow the 'wacky' meter off the charts if we were going with Str0ngo, dean0mgwtf%$&^%&%, J0n W1lliams, etc...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Brits are less 'wacky' online shockah!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i quite fancy a gazebo. i suspect i am alone in this.

we cannot camp in the SW as we will get lynched. remember sunday night last year? now think about what would have happened if we'd done that in the hippie zone.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 June 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

so the football is indeed an issue...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 June 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I also am quite fancying a gazebo, but can't really be fagged carrying it.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

how cumbersome are they? does anyone else who's camping with us fancy it?? cos i think i prob can be arsed (not that i've tried packing yet).

i was pathetically excited about going out to oddbins to buy a wine box + bottle of vodka, but it's raining now so i'm going to leave it. huh.

who else isn't planning on taking wellington boots?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno how exactly how cumbersome they are, but that much metal pole must weigh a bit.

I won't be bringing wellies, but I've got my trusty old pair of army boots which lasted through 1998 without leaking.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I turned on the radio and they said "croatia 2.. " and my heart lept to my mouth.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i was thinking about 1998 earlier. and not in a good way.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

BBC now shows rain for Saturday

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

YAY!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 21 June 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

OOOH - Is Michael Mayer camping with us?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i quite fancy a gazebo. i suspect i am alone in this.

For a reasonable fee, you're most welcome to visit our gazebo and stroke my poles.

And fyi: it's very bloody heavy indeed when packed up in its box (imagine a rucksack full of beer, say) - I'm hoping to attach some wheels to facilitate its journey from car to camping spot. And frankly, if it's too much of a fag taking it back to the car after the festival, I might just dump it somewhere - it's only £15 after all, a worthy investment.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

And fyi: it's very bloody heavy indeed when packed up in its box (imagine a rucksack full of beer, say)

ok, i won't be getting one then.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

PSA:

if anyone is still after tickets: two of my friends managed to get a couple yesterday by telephoning the main vendor (whoever it is, i forget). so give it a try if you're still in need.

ifangyou!

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

other people on the 9.30 coach from victoria:

mypete, mypete's girlfriend, mypete's mate.

i bought a maglite yesterday, it's KEWL.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

if anyone is still after tickets: two of my friends managed to get a couple yesterday by telephoning the main vendor (whoever it is, i forget). so give it a try if you're still in need.

Aw, false hope is a terrible thing to give! Just told my flatmate the above story - he promptly rang Wayahead/See Tickets (0871 220 0260 fwiw) and they basically laughed out loud down the phone...said they hadn't had tickets for weeks and hadn't accepted any returns for ages either.

Poor boy.

Bah.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i love maglites. and my dad mailed me several weird torches from the shop, some of which can be detached from their keyring and attached to your hat using special thingy!

woo for special thingys!

i've been getting conflicting advice on wellies. i have some. i don't have other boots (in this country), and it's that or trainers. some people say 'oh, if it's wet you'll get wet even with wellies' and other people say 'oh, but if there's mud you'll really be glad you have wellies'

vote?

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Special thingys rock hard.

Wellies: tricky one. If you can be arsed, sure, bring 'em. But you can buy them there for a few quid, as long as you don't have freakishly big/small feet, and if the mud's *so* bad you need wellies, you'll have much more to worry about than whether or not your feet are dry, ie. I can't walk without getting stuck/falling over, my tent isn't as waterproof as it's meant to be, where did my friends go (down that pothole) etc.

I'm taking my Aussie work boots and a pair of trainers. Feh.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I think unless you have some decent stout boots, wellies are a good plan. The don't weigh very much, and will save you much hassle if it does get muddy.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

colette, TAKE YOUR WELLIES. there's nothing worse than not having them if you need them, really, and what's the worst that can happen, they sit in your tent unworn all weekend...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Just told my flatmate the above story - he promptly rang Wayahead/See Tickets (0871 220 0260 fwiw) and they basically laughed out loud down the phone

aw, i'm sorry.
but it really happened!
or maybe they got them elsewhere... i'll double check.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

KatieG and Aubrey are also on the 9:30 coach.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

just double checked - my gf says they got their tix from seetickets.com just yesterday.

bizarre... try again, talk to a less arsey operator?

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not taking wellies, i'll put multiple plastic bags on my feet if i have to

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Take your wellies. Basically, fold them over until they're as small as possible and then tape them together, you'll find them easier to pack. You will be thoroughly, thoroughly desparate for them if it gets muddy.

Also, not bringing wellies is TEMPTING FATE and I will hold you personally responsible if it rains ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

my flight is at 7 (BRILLIANT!) so I guess after fighting my way to shepton mallett might be in Glastonbury for 2 or 3. Maybe earlier, maybe later. Then once I buy some drugs put up my tent and get settled in I should definitely be up for brothers bar at 5.

I can't believe it's tomorrow. Still as ever I think Glastonbury is something it's not possible to get fully excited about until you walk in the gates.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Carsmile and Pinkpanther are the only 'wacky' names we have.

Ahem, wacky? I love the idea of a gazebo to be honest, but we've got plenty to carry as it is!
I'm taking wellies, they just seem like a great idea & they are so very stylish!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

so - cheapest place to buy wellies?

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, not bringing wellies is TEMPTING FATE and I will hold you personally responsible if it rains ;)

This is a good point. If you have wellies, you may as well bring 'em, basically, otherwise at some point during the weekend you may well be standing knee-deep in mud thinking "I wish I'd brought the piano" (if indeed you left your wellies on/in the piano).

bizarre... try again, talk to a less arsey operator?

Don't understand this. The website says they're sold out, like, a million times over. Will pass this info on nonetheless.

Cheapest wellies to be found in H&M, probably. I wish H&M sold houses, they'd be like fifty quid or something.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i think those random luggage shops on charing cross road just across from the astoria have cheap wellies...for girls office has cute wellies with neat patterns on.

xpost-- i've never seen shoes except maybe flip flops in h&m-- wellies there, really?

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

colette - office didnt have any left so i had to get basty green ones, but they were only a fiver so i cannot complain!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, almost forgot this story: went to buy some camping stuff on saturday with two friends. we went from one shop to another (there were 5 or 6 in a row) and just kept thinking of new things we needed. by the end, jim decided we all needed handheld GPS things, with those fancy walkie-talkies, so we can always find each other.

that and a 15-person tent complete with living room and 3 bedrooms. it was soooo cool...when someone went to try something on, the other two would say 'we'll meet you in the tent' and pretend like we lived there.

it was fun, in a dorky kind of way.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

which shops did you go to colette? i'm planning on an early morning spree at the Holborn branch of Blacks tomorrow morning

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem there's a cracking camping shop in Kilburn (or used to be anyway) that will most likely be cheaper than Blacks etc

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa. where did my post go?

we went to high street kensington where there was a millets and a blacks and snow and rock and other places i can't remember what they're called...

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

jim decided we all needed handheld GPS things, with those fancy walkie-talkies, so we can always find each other

Typical. I finally get myself a mobile and the fucking things are out of fashion months later :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve - I shall be Holborn way for Glasto supplies too. Let us shop together.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, High St Ken is good cos there's four shops practically next door to each other.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone know where I can get cheap/used army boots? I'm not having luck finding surplus stores, and time is running out...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone know if the boxes of wine you can buy in Tesco are any cop?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

army & navy store?
they have loads of different ones matt, i got oen the other day! they're about £15.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

they are not glass, they are relatively easy to put in a rucksack, that's about all the cop you're going to get out of them ;)

(yes, i have bought one, as have several others)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Banrock Station is very tasty indeed, Matt.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i got the tempranillo (so) cos if it's warm it doesnt matter cos its red wine. (that & i only drink red wine!) we've got a sneaky bottle of vodka too!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave B did you get my txt on Sunday btw? i was gonna aim for 9.30 tomorrow morning if that's any good to you...or maybe tonight?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

why has no-one mentioned Tesco Value Lager yet btw? oh hang on

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

WEATHER LOOKING GOOD FOR GLASTO
After a rather damp Fleadh Festival this weekend, the weather for this
weekend's Glastonbury is looking quite good - dry but not too hot.

That said the festival's Emily Eavis has told NME: "There's always a chance
of showers so it's best to have some solid footwear and a waterproof jacket
at hand. Evenings are cool whatever the weather, so bring a jumper and, if
needs be, a blanket to throw over your shoulders while you wander through
the Green Fields in the middle of the night. Keep feet and heads warm, i.e.
socks and hats, when you sleep. That way you can stay warm through the
twilight hours."

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

*high fives all round*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Wearing a HAT in my SLEEP? Fecking hell, it's not going to be that cold!

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Wearing hats whilst asleep = Victor Big Brother = COLD AS ICE!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC be gangsta' trippin'!

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, what useless info tho. festival organisers also told NME that people should buy food if they are hungry, use their feet if they wish to move from one place to another and go to their toilet if they need to rather than just standing there and letting it just happen.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Wearing hats cos cold - D
Wearing hats cos bouzed - C

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder if there's time to buy a Viking helmet

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Wearing comedy festival hats = DUD at ALL TIMES.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

a Viking helmet is no joke i assure you

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

rob, there is a army surplus store on essex road right at the bottom of my road. and apparently one on chapel street, as well.

i sleep in hats in the winter. i get cold very easily.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone reported back to the London commitee as wearing novelty festival hats will be hunted down like the dogs they are

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem to be abandoned at glasto shockah!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

also, hopefully, as tw@ hats have been banned from wimbledon as potential terrorist deathtraps, the glasto organisers will take the same line...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i wore a fez two years ago. just like that.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

And then they all fez up.

(Sorry).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

bah, where is that pic of tom in a fez?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i just went shopping for a hat at lunchtime. it's hard to decide about this kind of thing! i may end up with a wide-brimmed polka dot affair that looks a bit too roman holiday for glasto probably, but i still love it and it's only from accessorise so who cares if it gets dirty?

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette - check yr email, btw.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got a bucket hat & yes I do look ridiculous, thankyou for noticing!
So where is everyone gonna camp then huh?

probably just up from where it says "New Tent" and right a bit, across that big road. depending on where we can find room for 10+ tents...

(thanks ricardo)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh! i managed to find the two hats i like online so you can judge...

http://store.monsoon.co.uk/er03/welcome.htm
and then the 'spot print floppy hat' on the first page, or something similar to the 'plain cotton beanie' but with a different ribbon...

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have an old Stussy beanie left over from the teenage skate chick phase. For sun I am taking a parasol, oh yes, fear me and my portable shade.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I am taking my big black umbrella. Yellow face will not get me.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i have last year's beanie rescued from the back of the wardrobe.

i just hope yellowface comes to the party...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a VAT of factor 35 sunscreen to dole out like the disapproving nurse in the sunburn tent.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just bringing Travel Scrabble and a sunny smile, come to think of it.

(Actually I am bringing legwarmers and wellies!)

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a VAT of factor 35

i somehow read this as a statement about VAT being charged at double normal rate. oh dear.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not taking wellies, i'll put multiple plastic bags on my feet if i have to

My friends still laugh at me for trying this on the walk out in 88.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

oh hullo andrew, did you get my mail?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

But what abaht the other quarter-finals? Bah.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Legwarmers! Starry I am inspired!

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

To be fair, if anyone round here was to be concerned about the variability of the Value Added Tax it would be me, so not such a slip methinks.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

there is a army surplus store on essex road right at the bottom of my road. and apparently one on chapel street, as well.

just found details online - second hand boots are 30-40 quid! for manky old used boots. insanity! every surplus store i've called/seen is about the same. what madness. i could get army boots for 10 bucks in toronto. looks like i'm getting cheap wellies after all... :(

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Legwarmers! Starry I am inspired!
Indeed!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Mail, yes, and replied, I think.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

ah yes, so you did, jolly good :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

So roughly what time are ppl going to be arriving at glasto?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

one ish, depending on traffic/leaving time, probably closer to two i'd say though.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Let me just check - the coaches are departing from the actual proper Victoria Coach Station, and we're meeting at 9.00 - right?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

YES, 9 in the queue.

glasto busses have traditionally gone from the VERY VERY last bay, so once you get to the front door of the coach station you still have another 5 minute walk to the bay.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Rob - that is bizarre. I haven't bought walking boots from an army surplus store in years, but they were only about ten quid and lasted for ages.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool. we should be there around the same time. We're leaving at 6am, meeting up in a convoy at fleet services at 7.30 so however long it takes us from there!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

(soory, obv it's not as important if you're not on the BIG TICKET, but if you're not there by quarter past we may not all be able to get on the same bus)

N, i think they are becoming trendier with the young people again hence hike in prices...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I think even the stalls at Glastonbury sell them quite cheap.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Due to the lack of social housing, the Labour party have reverted to making old women live in shoes again.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

If that's true it's awful.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(Its pretty awful as lies go to be fair.)

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

so how does the football affect the brothers bar plan? presumably we go there, get perry, go to football?

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Exactly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

(Its pretty awful as lies go to be fair.)

'Fayre', please.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

presumably we go there, get perry, go to football?

I can see a problem with this (above and beyond the football part): It seems to involve the singular of perry.

Does _anyone_ want to not go to the football? It'll just be me and The Irish Contingent, then.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

How big is the Irish Contingent?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not f#cking going to the f#cking c#nting foopball!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Excuse my ignorance, but where/what is the Brothers Bar?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i doubt Alang, Emma and Sarah will bother with the footy to name but just three Andrew

Dave B did you say you were bringing a radio? i suppose i can handle missing the other quarter finals esp. as there will be some band i like on at 8pm somewhere each of the nights probably - txt updates will do and i can enjoy SKy Plus recorded highlights on Monday afternoon wooo

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

How big is the Irish Contingent?

Considerable, if I can convince them to come down (NB: does not include Ronan). 7pm Brothers Bar is sort of a gathering of the tribes anyway - I think there was significant* Bowlie/Sinister/Goff turnouts last year.

* significant = tricky to fit them in a phonebox.

xpost Starry I WUV You.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie - it's the perry selling bar next to the Jazz World Stage.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there was significant* Bowlie/Sinister/Goff turnouts last year.

!!! where did the Goff Contingent come from?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

whgat sarah said, but ruder

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

5pm Brothers Bar you bunch of lamerz!

Incidentally, can I assume we will all be returning to the Brothers Bar en masse jubliant/dejected anyway? Where's the problem?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd blame Ricardo.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Morrissey wearing a sarong?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

...or a Slipknot black boiler suit?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we allowed to throw things at morrisey? (not that I'll be anywhere near him!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie - it's the perry selling bar next to the Jazz World Stage.

Ah, right. And this is 5pm Thursday or tomorrow? I'm very confused...

I don't really want to watch the football, but I'm likely to be wrestling with a giant bloody gazebo for several hours after I arrive anyway, so I'm sure that'll be moot.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, charlie is confoosed & isn't even at glastonbury yet!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

5pm Thursday, Charlie.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

There were no actual bona fide goffs there last year. There may, however, be some this year.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

But where from??

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

carsmile, daveB, i have emailed you...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

DJ Martian, have you ever been to Glastonbury?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

No

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's great - you should!

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That Lock Tavern lineup is bloody useless - no times, not even days! Feh. Shame, cos it looks like it'll be a laff.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck the Lock Tavern, the only thing I want to see is The Outlaws in the dance tent: I'm surprised no one has mentioned that already?

Monkeyspunk, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"Wellies: tricky one. If you can be arsed, sure, bring 'em. But you can buy them there for a few quid, as long as you don't have freakishly big/small feet, and if the mud's *so* bad you need wellies, you'll have much more to worry about than whether or not your feet are dry, ie. I can't walk without getting stuck/falling over, my tent isn't as waterproof as it's meant to be, where did my friends go (down that pothole) etc."

- charlie, this is a nonsense! if the mud's so bad you need wellies, it is the BIGGEST thing you will have to worry about. seriously. wet feet is more misery-making than anything, anything else. in '98 i had only one happy moment with wet feet: i'd been standing still at the front of the main stage for so long sunday night (sonic youth : bob dylan : nick cave : pulp : GOD it was brilliant) that the mud and skank inside my boots had got nice and warm. lovely, eh? seriously. TAKE WELLIES. it seems like they take up a shitload of space but they don't: you just shove everything else inside them. they're not heavy either.

emsk, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

shoefayre do wellies for like six quid.

emsk, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah standing still in mud 98 style nick cave/pulp was ace.
barely anybody there, cause all the lightweights fckd off early.

whole point of THE LOCK TVRN is that u dont know whats on when
thats the fun!

piscesboy, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

shoefayre do wellies for like six quid.

i think i've finally cracked and will buy some tomorrow...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

B-but the weather will be good! It takes a couple of days of rain for mud to be a prob.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

it doesn't seem like we've had that much rain in the last week. i am confident this is also true for Somerset. basically you need a prolonged period of showers over the course of a good few days to get the earth muddy enough for a '98 situation don't you? i'm sure it will be a bit grimy here and there but no more than usual. if it's only going to rain on Saturday/Sunday then i'm pretty sure i won't even need the plastic bags.

tho i've just realised i will need some new shoes as my trainers are holey and if you think i'm wearing my brown leather trainers you can stroll on geezaaaahhhhhh

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Did all you welly mentalists take them last year too?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i've changed my mind about wellies now. for the next 5 mins anyway.

i just bought the booze - 3 litres of chilean merlot and a litre of smirnoff red. i nearly bought two wine boxes but decided that would be mentalism.

time to pack...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Wineboxes = maximum booze per cubic inch. Particularly if you only take the wine implants out of them.

If the weather we have in Dublin moves east and stays, we are deeply and irredeemably fucked.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it's raining here too.

has this link been posted yet?

the weather doesn't look too bad for the weekend - a little rain on saturday but nothing more than that. of course if it really has been raining badly today and tomorrow it could be a bit shit when we arrive...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

getting there? if by covered you mean I intend to get to Bristol airport and find out from there, then yes absolutely.

I know there are buses to shepton mallet and to the site from there, maybe just have to get from the airport to bristol bus station ourselves.

should be ok.

Is it unusual to be INCREDIBLY NERVOUS at this point? You'd swear I was about to go into battle. Maybe this is what happens when you've been exposed to Irish social occasions for 21 years.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

At this point = I have put up the tent in my flat and climbed inside "to check it still works", so if by nervous you mean excited, then yes absolutely.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i am very nervous. although all i am doing is deciding how many hooded tops to bring. and worrying about wellies.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, I did that with my new tent on Saturday. I am currently knackered. Partly through burning through a vast amount of work today, and partly cos of earlier excitement at it all.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

In fairness, Fatboy Slim's set at the Dance tent in worst-year-ever 98, which had earlier in the day been flooded by gallon of sewage, is still one of the two most fantastic times I've had with all my clothes on, so there is always hope.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i just realised that pete's going to be at glastonbury this year. i find this curiously exciting (ahem).

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not being fooled by that twice. Last year's Meat Baran wouldn't convince anyone.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ok it looks horrible out there now and i am beginning to rethink the footwear proposal

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't actually have anything apart from trainers to take. wellies must be purchased, i fear.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

BOLLOCKS! I have lost my stuff sack. the extra space it provides is extremely handy.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

packed! with no room for these hypothetical wellies though.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

like toby, i have just purchased a 3L box of wine (australian shiraz - tesco's finest. i was also tempted to buy a 2nd box!). i also picked up some fantastic looking weed. my work here is done! yeah, i too am fretting about footwear, since i did NOT find army boots. i have no time tomorrow so i'll just have to get wellies up there, since i know they sell them on-site.

holy crappity crap i'm excited.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I have hiking boots. I just remembered I forgot to wax them though. They are extremely good ones I bought when I used to hike but never really wore.

I am excited and terrified now. I think and hope I have everything. I really should go to bed cos I'm up in 6 hours but I'm too excited to sleep.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I am feeling stupidly nervous too. I think it's because for me and you it's so far away that it seems unlikely to actually work. Are you travelling on your own too?

Anyway, I have to get up for my flight in about 7 hours but my nerves have manifested themselves in not having really started to pack yet.

It's just tent stuff, clothes, ticket and passport really. I can buy wet ones and crap in Bath tomorrow.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What time does your flight get into Bristol, Ronan? Mine's due in at 10.10 - maybe we'll bump into each other.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no, hang on - you're arriving Thursday, aren't you?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

No I'm flying at 7!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

So are you spending a night in Bristol?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

(sorry - I haven't been keeping track)

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the idea of you arriving on site at Wednesday lunchtime and guarding a field for everyone.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

tomorrow I mean!

I think there are some random homies on my flight, I am travelling with one good friend for certain. I'll probably be slightly earlier than you.

Yes I hate the idea of having to cross an ocean, also shepton mallet. I won't rest until I am in Glastonbury, resting.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

no I think I made a mistake earlier. I will be on the site tomorrow, if you want to "grab a pint" in the evening sometime. maybe email me your mobile number.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

wet ones?

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm spending Wednesday night at a friend's in Bath. We'll make that pint sometime though (you have my mobile number from the other night.)

Peter

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to have deleted it, there is a good turnover of messages this week.

Peter, maybe Thursday night then, at the ILX filthy lez up.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

lez go crazy.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I have now put some trousers, t-shirts and underwear on my bed. I think this is a good start.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

lez dennis (dance)

what time are you up at? if I went to bed now I'd have 5 hours sleep.

I am messaging someone on myspace though. can you bring some aftersun for me? there was none in the house and st ives moisturiser seemed either (a)unlikely to work or (b)overly gay.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

TIP: if taking your tent as hand luggage on plane, remember to remove tent pegs for to avoid terrorist-like suspicion and peg impoundment. I somehow got away with this last year but forgot to hijack the plane until it was too late.

After Sun is foolish product. Apply your sun tan lotion correctly in the first place.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Go to bed now!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm booking a taxi for 7.15 or so. Flight's at 8.50 and the airport's only 20 mins away. So at the rate I am going, probably about 5 hours sleep, yeah. That's OK.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

it's nice if you're burnt to even rub cold stuff on the affected area. there are frozen prawns in my freezer????

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Take them with you!

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not going to look at my collapsable tent poles as an offensive weapon, are they? The image is just too ridiculous.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

they are offensive to women, since they are flagrant phallic symbols.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Better not show them your mallet, then.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you, I'm there all week. G'night!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrggh - the prospect, however remote, of them confiscating my tent poles is too horrible to bear. I'm going to have to unfold the sodding tent again and put them in my rucksack.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

You realise that this means the terrorists have won?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

can't you put your tent into the hold?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah - I hadn't thought of that.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Last time I used the tent sack (it has handles!) as a kind of bag for other things too. I think I was too hung up on that notion to consider the obvious alternative. I think I got afeared last year that it would go missing, being so small and all.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

ours is fecking huge, it's really heavy too, but I guess it is worth it for the space.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Now the question is do I take some horrendously out of fashion and generally derided suede Acupuncture trainers to ruin? They may be suede, but the shoelace area is well covered and they have huge heels, so good for traversing wet and mildly muddy ground. They're bulky though, and I'll already be wearing my bulky and resilient (but not very waterproof) Caterpillars on the plane so that option is out.

Hmmm...

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I would somehow feel bad about ruining them, even though I never wear them.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

THE WORLD ISN'T REALLY THAT HARD!

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know how to pull myself together! I need someone to slap me.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

My rucksack is now almost entirely filled with shoes.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

oh my god. you and ronan are so cute i can't stand it. ask him what he did to the hair gel.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you seen outside? See it? Hear it? It's going to be like that ALL. WEEK. END. We are doomed. DOOOOOOOOMED!

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

How the hell did I manage to use so many more right contact lenses than left ones??

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK - JUMPERS. I have no room and the shoes have aleady been ditched.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't remember being like this last year. What has become of me?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i got laughed at last year for bringing a hair dryer, but our caravan turned out to have power and guess who became the hero.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't talk to me about powered caravans, you monster.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure tents have much more charm.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yes. Mine is a Vixen.

OK, it is all now packed. Random last minute things have been stuffed into the tent sack. I have booked the taxi. I have left a note for my flatmate to water my plants. I am going to have the cigarette I was saving and get a few hours kip.

You see it was all much harder for me because I'm not coming back to Glasgow for two and a half weeks. It's not just that I'm a ponce.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't remember the last time it rained like that in London...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i am fcuked because i still have to do laundry, pack bag, buy crap shoes and maybe some other clothes to bring. the good news is i forgot i already had a sleeping bag and it was right under my nose the whole time.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing is, the rain will stop. The question is, how quickly will the ground dry?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I am starting to think that it would have been better never to have looked at, let alone contributed to, these threads.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i have enjoyed it, apart from all the fd regarding where to camp. give it up people! no two separate travelling parties will end up camping together (more's the pity). still my main aim is to meet everyone from ILX who's going, at least once over the festival.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

bbc says no more rain!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1138

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I spoke to a mate of mine who is already at the site working with Oxfam. The phrase he used was "absolutely cunting it down". Apparently the stage/grass areas are alright but the walkways are very wet and muddy, and apparently it was raining all night as well.

IT IS MUDDY AT GLASTONBURY! TAKE WELLIES EVERYONE FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Hopefully a day of proper sun on Thursday will sort this lot out. Eavis, if your much-vaunted new drainage system doesn't work I will never believe a word you say ever again.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Also a festival where a) it is wet and slippery, and b) I can't sit down is my worst nightmare at this point.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

it doesn't seem like we've had that much rain in the last week.
Stevem, I hold you personally responsible!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

OHHH GOOOD!

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay I am so excited!

Take lots of dustbin bags so that you can sit down almost anywhere innit?!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Still we'll all be real stylish in our wellies. Any one got any spare leg warmers ala starry?
Also, I fear that one box o' wine will not be enough!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

DEAR GOD, PLEASE STOP THE BLUDDY RAIN. K THANX BYE

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

With any luck, a day of sunshine coupled with everyone trampling and compacting the mud should sort it all out.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

or just make a mushy mess. is no one else as excited as me or is it just that the veterans no longer get excited?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Saturday is going to be a good day ..... ;o)

chris (chris), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Backpackers, Charing Cross Road, opposite the mini Sainsbury's, just down from the Astoria. I got my wellies there yesterday for 10 quid.

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I am envious of nick, having to get up and leave his flat, in this morning's dull rain. I bet it felt awfully great.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

starry, i second pete's suggestion on where to go, if you want something fancier then there's an office right across the street and you could get the spirally print ones instead. i'd probably go for cheap, though, because i'm poor...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont feel so bad about not going now.

i might go to gdansk

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the place i went to did offer a choice, of green or black. no patterns though.

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I've now been told about Laurence's Corner - an army surplus/camping store just up from Warren Street.... it could be a life saver!! If it doesn't pan out, I'll try that one on Charing X road too...

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks peteb, i shall be welly buying at lunchtime :)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't u hear the rain last nite toby?
Rob did you get my email?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a sturdy pair of boots that I trust. If the rain stops soon, the wind should help dry the site, and the cloud cover will mean a warm overnight.

I am quietly confident

UNLESS

one of you lot have blown out a wedding to go to Glasto cursing us.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope it's fun!!

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope there is a huge flood in Glasgow this weekend.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't u hear the rain last nite toby?

yeah - i meant the rain forecast for saturday, not the rain that's happened already.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:05 (twenty-one years ago)

matt DC, you terrible cunt, I was being COMPLETELY, GENUINELY SINCERE.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

OH GOD WHY WON'T IT STOP RAINING?

I am reaching levels of near hysteria. Make it fucking stop. I went in '97 and '98 and I don't think I can do it again. I was younger then. I took more drugs. Just stop with the rain. Oh Fuck.

What colour are they Tobes?

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember 2000. It absolutely shat it down all day and all night and then dried up in the sun and was fine. 1998 was a nightmare because it rained all night and all day right through until Saturday evening and by then everything was a lost cause. 1997 it had been raining for weeks beforehand but the mud was stodgy and not wet.

If the forecasts are correct, we'll be okay.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

it will be nothing like 1998. in 1998 it had been raining for ages and carried on - we have two days of sun coming up!

the boots are black. i hope that's ok, it's not like there was any choice.

right, i'm off to work with all my glasto gear, so there'll be no more weather-based paranoia from me for a few hours.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it. I think it's good

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm with the DC. 2000 was just like this, and this is London rain. It has generally been alright to walk in. Not too much churning tonight, and the brisk wind should dry the site out pretty much.

The 20mm of rain on Staurday looks a bit scary, but that's what the dance/acoustic tent is for.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

GLASTONBURY TICKETS SALE CANCELLED

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

well, I hope you all have a lot of fun.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

say it like you mean it now ;o)

chris (chris), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt's right about 2000 - it was terrifying at first but the overnight drying was miraculous

we've had around 30 hours of rain in the last two days it feels like.

will reluctantly purchase boots today, hmph

forgot i'd booked today off so sitting in room trying to wake up - need to go into work this afternoon at some point and then maybe FAP. but i can't my bastard washing on the bastard line cos of the bastard rain, and i have no bastard airing cupboard.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool. I was going to request black or red ones and then I realised that asking for specific wellington boot colours is a bit shallow and daft and was too embarassed to call and go "get black ones!"

Please stop raining.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt is right, so it might be wet & muddy. We'll all be fine!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

and i am kinda fed up with the rain spoiling all my holidays. it rained in Bilbao (tho only a few times so not bad there really), it rained every single day in New York except the day of Chricky's wedding itself, and rain is now spoiling what i am classing as a holiday here.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I am the boy who cried terrible cunt.

I really hope you all have a wonderful time and, although I am a little envious, I have an overwhelming feeling of happiness for all these people going to glastonbury. it is a strange feeling, I admit, but I did enjoy watching part of a football match, this past week, and I am preparing myself for further surprises, in my future.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

apostrophe catastrophe to thread!

i'm quite excited at the prospect of A BIG GUN ponting at the sky BUSTING CLOUDS, but if I'm not mistaken, the gun TURNS CLOUDS INTO RAIN which seems a little, er, totally fucking pointless...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I just went outside.
It had stopped raining. I jumped up and down on the grass in Russell Square for a couple of minutes and just got a minor squidging sound. Nay problemo.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

not if it does it somewhere else!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Saturday in that Guardian tent looks good. I will be spending as much of Saturday in one tent or another as possible.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

remember tho Pete, Glasto is in a valley so water will be travelling down the hills resulting in extra muddiness on the plain.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

alright not a valley but big hills all around. i am looking forward to seeing the cows on the top actually, from that distance they always look like people.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

WHY AM I NOT PACKING YET? i have a problem

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, start paacking!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the idea that Russell Square = proxy for Glasto fields is possible the most unproven by science idea ever and also heartwarmingly endearingly lovely.

x-post. I'm packing, muthafuckas. Fear my big cloudbusting gun.

Kate Bushtucker Motherfucker (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not packing til tomorrow morning. Mentalists!!!!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i shall be packing when i get in half cut from the pub obv.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just spoken to my friend at Glasto - IT IS OKAY! Still full grass everywhere but on the paths, which are muddy up to the bottom of his trousers", which sounds okay considering. It has stopped raining there now.

However, we've been advised to make sure we've got wellies within easy reach when we get onto the site, as we might need them walking to the campsite.

Apparently the wind is causing more problems for people trying to pitch their tents. Hopefully that will be gone by the time we get there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the paths, which are muddy up to the bottom of his trousers, which sounds okay considering

this, of course, depends on how long his trousers are...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

He is in shorts.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Now thatjust isn't true is it DC.

Actually wind is very good for us as it
a) Dries up the fields quicker like
b) Means people do not camp in the most exposed bits. Leaving room for us.

No porblems fella.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the wind is helpful for putting tents up, if you are not RUBBISH, becuase it blows out the canvas saving you faffing around, if you're putting it up yourself.

also, in mallet news, I HAVE MY* MALLET!

*OK, it might be rickyt's...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I have my shepton mallet was the correct answer carsmile!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

glasgow flood.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

to boost my own morale i have designed my own fantasy Orbital setlist based on what they've said about it being greatest hits an' all...

Belfast
Frenetic
Lush
The Girl With The Sun In Her Head
Way Out
Funny Break
The Box
P.E.T.R.O.L.
Technologique Park
You Lot
Are We Here?
Halcyon
Satan
Adnans
Dr Who
Remind
Impact USA - The Earth Is Burning
Chime

would expect to hear most of those, and the new single tho it rubmungous. i think the Chemical Brothers should START with The Private Psychedelic Reel as well...obv. it won't happen like this but it's certainly lifted me out of the rain-related gloom just thinking about it all

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I would shoot my load in the middle of the crowd at that setlist, except Frenetic. I can kind of see the end of You Lot going into The Girl With The Sun In Her Head.

I'm torn between the Chems and Spiritualized on Friday night. I think the Spaceman may have won me over though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

its like 1997

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

FEAR MATT'S CLOUDBUSTING LOAD-SHOOTING PENIS!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Frenetic is so great tho, just cos Kinetic was always a good track

1997 was a very good year gareth. i am quite happy to wallow in it THIS WEEKEND ONLY (and maybe a few other times on a semi-regular basis, for the res tof my life)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

you're obviously jealous now as well ;)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm torn between the Chems and Spiritualized on Friday night.

How weird that the Chems remix of Spz's "I Think I'm In Love" has just this second started playing on my minidisc...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

97 was a nadir for culture

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

no you shut up

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't make me get you with my cloudbusting load-shooting giant penis.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

chemical brothers remixing spiritualized! worse thing ever! i dont begrudge you that choice.

i am not jealous of a sodden field (though, perhaps, i was jealous up tuntil 2 days ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

B-b-but it is brown!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is starting to scare me. just wanted to say that i bought a hat at lunch, and i love it. woo!

and a box of wine.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not bringing a box of wine as it appears everyone else has and you can have too much wine. I may bring sturdy plastic glasses mind.

(Indeed when I pioneered the wine box technique in 2002 I was pooh pooh and that winebox lasted a bout a years worth of risottos on top of our fridge.)

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

my back garden doesn't look too muddy - i am on a hilltop tho

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, i wont be bringing any red wine home at all i can assure you!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i've decided to buy some trousers on site

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Your search - glastonbury trousers - did not match any documents.

sorry stevem!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe we can convince him to go, next year.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

NB backpackers on Charring X road now ALMOST COMPLETELY OUT OF WELLIES!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

how long do we reckon orbital are going to play that dink-d-d-dink-dink intro to CHIME before bringing the bass in? my god that's going to be some moment. my heart beats substantially faster just thinking about it.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

from the website front page:

There is no official entertainment on Thursday night

But there's plenty to do after you've put your tent up. Check out the "Website Message Boards Meet" at the Jazzworld stage [copycats], gather at the Pyramid Stage to see the footie and get ready for the music to start.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

will the results be added to the ilx premium service fuck database?

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Price of Backpackers wellies has gone up from £10 to £15. Aaah, capitalism.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

they are pretty effing shoddy too, a sharp stone will go straight through 'em i reckon, but there you go...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

the football is on the Pyramid Stage? brilliant, and we can listen with radio commentary too

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

This may require extra red wine...

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

six wheels on my wagon. by which i mean cans of scrumpy in my bag. i will be carrying two bags it seems, somehow.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

This may require extra red wine...
Of course!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That has just convinced me to buy a box.

oh dear god.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Goddammit I've come late to this thead and you people are scaring me! It'll be fine. There's bugger all we can do about the weather, so we might as well just prepare ourselves as best we can and get the fuck up there and GET IT ON, PEOPLE! YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH.....

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette/everyone else who's never been to Glastonbury: you are right to be afraid of that picture. It has been worse than that, *much* worse. 1997 was hilariously muddy - I still have pictures of people up to their *knees* in mud, standing next to noodle stalls and suchlike.

But it's not going to be like that this year, and anyone who says it is, is a. scaremongering and nasty, and b. possibly working for a welly company.

xpost obv.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The key number in that photo URL there is '98'.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

methinks i would like some waterproof trousers!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, all this "aaaaiiiieee there's MUD!" stuff two days before the festival proper is buzz harshing, pure and simple.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

:-(

I was all excited earlier & no one shared, so fupp it, i'm gonna talk about mud!

chris (chris), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

that photo looks much worse than actually is. my friend should be arriving there around now so will hear from them later. off out now so won't be posting until Monday after the next few minutes - have fun everyone and see you all there i hope.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

see you tomorrow stevem! safe journey!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

See, there is plenty of green there, even in that poor-quality badly-lit shot.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

green mud? *ducks*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Have a good ttime everyone, I am ever so slightly jealous, but not too much, I think I'm going to have a pretty damn good weekend anyway.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Save me some pork pieeeeee.....

I have my full insulated mud suit ready. Let not the viles disease, trenchfoot or scrofula put thee off.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i forgot to pick up waders when i was shopping...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It's okay, there's a mad old hippy lady who sells them, somewhere between the Ostrich Burgers and the Candle Powerered Propellor Boat Man.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I think she may be annexing the CPPBM's stall this year.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Candle Powerered Propellor Boat Man

total festival highlight! i actually bought one off him in '97 - naturally, it was crap and didn't work.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Come on! More random festival characters! Green Anarchist Guy! The Protest Nude Man! The sinister aura surrounding the Jesus Army tent!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

um, the sun's out.

(saying it quietly so i don't jinx it)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the women dressed as tea-ladies! they crack me up.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

that crazy dude who rides around in some crazy motorized lecture podium with wacky beeping noises! the robot garbage bin-thing!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Right. Have just bought tent - cuning offer - buy one, get second half price. Missed teeny small print saying 'second is half price if you also buy a tent'. Bah. Got me medical supplies (paracetemol, multivitamins and stuff). Bought trousers with lotsa zip pockets and zips to make them shorts. Woo! Carsmile got me wellies for me (lovely lad that Carsmile). Get bouze tomorrow.

Only need the waterproofs now. I want that poncho thinsg that fold up into a bag and are basically one step up the evolutionary scale from bin liners. All the shops (ie, the one shop I tried) had proper anoraks and everything, but no cheapskate waterproof sheets of plastic. Anyone any ideas? I know Pink said she would bring them, but I am kind of thinking that arranging to meet someone amidst 100000 people to retrieve a really vital piece of kit is menko.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Well they will be giving them out at Glasto (see the website) or you can get nice fit in your pocket deals at Uniqlo.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Bumped into Carsmile in Backpackers - NO WELLIES FOR ME but Carsmile is a bloody GENTLEMANG and a SCHOLAR and has saved my life with a wellies-loan. I haf also bought trousers from charity shop. They are not waterproof. I don't care. Haven't bought binliners but will do so on way home. Feel as if have been put through hedge backwards. Have also bought extra groundsheet for OBF. Want a lie down.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Somewhat worryingly, everyone around me is getting ill.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i suspect that by the end of glastonbury i'll have a full-fledged cold, and have booked off tuesday and wednesday from work in order to sleep and prepare for roksilde. sheesh. but yeah! that means when i leave today i don't have to come back to work till 6 july!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm raging I won't be there but it's nice to feel the mounting excitement.

Hope you all have a fab time.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I am bringing seven breeze blocks with me as part of a cunning plan. If everyone else brings some (and the gurls bring 5 house bricks each) we will easily be able to build a house which will withstand all the elements.

I haven't worked out how to do windows yet.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I will bring some sand and, using the magic of fire, we can make our own glass.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm all sorted for waterproof kit (my canadian camp-mate nicked some outfits from work - a landscaping company). dave B has just reminded me about vitiamins and such. still no wellies! i was going to get them on-site but methinks they might be necessary for the walk in....

man o man i'm in my stupid suit today and have to go to a client event and i can't believe that in 24 hours my suit and work will be the furthest thing from my mind because i'll be in a field completely wankered on beer/wine/cider/perry/weed/mushrooms/etc oh baby oh baby COME ONNNNNNNN

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

(sorry, i started to turn into richard ashcroft there)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I initially thought of making the shelter of straw but someone reminded me that last time I did that it wa sblown down by some big, bad wolf type thing.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, i like it!
x-post
There's big bad wolves there???

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Its the countryside, of course there are wolves.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

*gulps*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i love pete.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

That's why you should try to avoid red kagools if possible. It has a strong race memory for wolves and they still haven't forgiven Ms RR Hood for all that Grandma big eyes shenanigans.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

everyone loves pete, he's so cwute!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

OF COURSE THERE ARE WOLVES!

http://www.geocities.com/turnipfish1/wolvesflag.txt

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Booo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw Peteywetey!!!!!

Er.

Anyway I expect I will spend this Glasto by myself though as I have been fucked over getting a new phone and am now going to have to fork out 30 quid for a new battery or entirely lose track of everyone for the entire weekend. Some might say this was a good thing, that I didn't rely on people I already know and half who wish I'd fuck off already, that I'd gain social sklls but to be honest fuck it. I might sod Glasto and carpet bomb mobile phone salesmeng instead. Today has been so fucking stressfull and I'm SUCH a twat for not doing this all ages ago.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It will all be forgotten tomorrow sarah!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the last day before glastonbury is always ridiculous stress, you always end up spending money on things you were sure you bought the year before, and you always fail to get several essential items, it's part of the fun innit. the sun is nearly out in london!!!

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just petrified of losing everyone and panicking by myself and missing out on ALL THE FUN throughout the entire festival - I'm not much good as a "lone ranger" which is ironic ftb I am an anti-social sod anyway, sheesh!! How do people cope without phones? I cannot!!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

phones didn't even work at glastonbury until about 2 years ago!

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

This will be my first Glastonbury with a phone. It will revolutionise the festival-going experience for me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

nick's phone isn't quite a revolution, more of a 180.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never been without a phone, oldsters! I am actually panicking about the thought of not having access to one over the weekend!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway I hear they will be implanting SIM cards into peoples minds in the brain machine this year.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto Matt. I always found I bumped into people, especially if I knew where they were going, what they were seeing and if I had stuck a spidey-tracer on them.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

DUFFER

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

starry, can you maybe just borrow someone else's phone and stick your sim card into it?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

we've got an old nokia phone you can borrow, but i cant say how long the battery will last!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I might leave my phone at home anyway.

Oh and Matt, you need to get a dadstool for you knackered leg.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm back, i will have all my stuff with me at the pub later. do not laugh. i didn't buy wellies yet, this is probably a problem. 20 Refuse Sacks from the £ shop tho...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

YMOF has volunteered a spare phone to plonk my SIM card into so I might be okay! But might there be "locking" issues, like his phone is locked to I dunno, Eircom or something? I've left this til far too late but I never antcipated the people in the phone shop to be such c#nts!

Pink - any idea how screwed the battery is? Mine is pretty much kaputz0r3d but a spare one might get me though, with me spending a LOT of time in the recharging places heh heh.

Actually if it rains they might be one of the driest spots...

I will have to bring some books to read this year eh.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/s/muddycampers.jpg

From the front page - are they telling us something?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

That is not muddy. Fucking wusses.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah - i can check tonight for you. It has been switched off for a while though which is probably not that great for the battery.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

sarah, what network is your sim card from?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

spending a LOT of time in the recharging places heh heh.

wtf go to Muji and buy a battery-operated phone charger for sick squid...they're amazing, four AAA batteries charge your phone in an hour!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i am getting most paranoid about my ticket getting nicked!

ooh i like the sound of that charlie!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, serious question - I don't need anything other than a debit card, ticket and bank statement to get in, do I?

I know we've done this, but I can't be arsed to trawl through the other thread looking.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

HELP please, we are going on the train from paddington tomorrow (thurs) pm. we want to get the 2.35. has anyone done this on the thurs afternoon before? how mad are the crowds/queues? we have train tix already so don't need to factor in time to buy them. weren't allowed to book specific seats cos they know it will be all fresh hell if they let us. we were kinda hoping we would beat lots of people who couldn't leave until either after work on thurs, or til friday... and that the people who'd taken thursday off too would have taken the 10.30/12.30 trains... when d'you suggest we arrive there? one of us has piss all to do in the morning so we can send him to queue if necessary, the other 2 have to work in the morning...

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you need one or the other matt!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

emsk - i've got the train around that time before. it is very hectic. expect long queues at castle cary and to get on the site. we're getting a 9.30 train this year to try and beat some of the crush but i expect it'll still be mental even that early. it just can't be avoided!

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Emsk - getting into the festival through Castle Cary is fairly easy, you'll have to queue for a little bit to get onto the coach that takes you to the site, but not really that long.

Leaving from Castle Cary, on the other hand, is a fucking nightmare. Get there as early as possible otherwise you and hundreds of others will be penned up outside the station for hours.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Muji. Battery operated phone charger. Sick squid. Charlie. Charlie Charlie. Haven't I always said you were brilliant?

(My phone battery is TOTALLY ruined though so like, no-one actually CALL me, text happy, like :))

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

my phone's fully charged. at Glasto it usually dies Sunday around noon for me.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i am usually there on a Wednesday afternoon tho. it feels dead weird still being in London. yes the ironing.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

How long does one of these charger things last & could anyone see themselves to getting an extra one?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

and where the hell do you buy wellies between Old St and Charing Cross at this late hour?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I just say that mail sacks rock hard in terms of carry lots of crap that isn't too heavy but is bulky. They also have lots of prole chic.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of which are you still bringing that Soviet Flag?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

wind-up

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve - surely the big Bhs/Debenhams/M&S on Oxford Street will do them?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

You offer men in wellies hard cash for their footwear.

x-post. Yes. Commie bastard flag in the mail sack.

Speaking of which - given I'll be arriving with my group at around 5-6am, how shall I find the Ilx massif? Can someone text me the location when base camp is established?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought that "wind-up" link was going to be a link to the Glaso message board threads about how they are already towing cars out of the mud.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

6pm, Brothers Bar!

How often must this be said!!!

(see without a phone I will lose you ALL!!!!)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Er if you want a battery charger thing shout NOW as I am going in like, 5 mins...

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

thankss! i am not expressing myself very clearly though - once at castle cary we'll be fine, expecting mad busyness from people from all corners of everywhere arriving at once so will not be thrown by that. my concern is will they let us on the bluddy train at paddington...

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave, you're arriving 5am Friday morning right? God knows... we'll need some sort of landmark. I'll give you a bell when we're camped.

And its 5pm Brothers Bar.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

If by 'sick' you mean 6 quid then yes please!!!!!! thx!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

at paddington they marshall everyone into a special glastonbury queue area and fill up each train as it comes. if you don't fit on one, you'll get on the next, they go fairly often don't they?

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh - need charger thing from Starry - are you there Starry?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ericsson T610 like

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Two years ago when I took the train from Paddington there was a bomb scare at the station two minutes before my train was due to leave and we all got marshalled out onto the street, thousands of us. That was entertaining.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah mines a nokia!! aarrrggghhhh!
need to go home!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Right gotcher - I'll need the pennies back at Glasto I'm afraid :) I'll sort yer - I'm sure yer phone issues will be okay, I'm Nokia too!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

They have phone chargers for all networks in the Nokia tent. But please do not rely on your phones, it harshes the buzz.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

GETTING LOST IS GOOD.

WHEN I WERE A LAD NO ONE HAD A PHONE AT GLASTO AND DID WE DIE OF LONLINESS? NO WE DID NOT...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

phones increase the buzz of the site generally, if you take my meaning

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm starving and still need wellies, torch and possibly a blanket so i'm gonna head off now and see folk in pub in t' due course

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm taking my phone this year, because you just look like such a twat if you don't, but i still don't believe they are necessary.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Grandad, we love you, grandad we do

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers pete. they don't seem to go that often - there's a 2.35 one that takes less than 2 hours, then a 2.45 one that takes 3 hours, then none for another 2 hours. obv we want the 2.35 one, otherwise my bro will be left destitute when he gets in to castle c... perhaps they are lying though. they lied to me last year about the existence of a train from castle cary to bristol (i swore there was one cos i'd taken it a couple of times before, they denied all knowledge. there was one).

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

SARAH - i'll give you the cash at glasto no worries. £6 yeah?
i've emailed u my number!

See you all tomorrow guys!! *mwah*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a train from CC to Bath though. I've a gotten that one before I'm a sure.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Right then - I AM OFF! See you at Glasto.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

see you all there, folks!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto.

Well I'll see some of you inverpub.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

rraaaargh i am suddenly ridiculously excited! it's wet, it's muddy, but i have wellies and waterproofs and warm clotheses and an umbrella and a camping stove and bloody hell, i shan't melt anyway. and it won't be as bad as '98 because the ground turned to liquid only because of weeks of relentless torrents. yay!

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all good. i'm still at work but soon i will be going home (via sainsbury's to get the all important bernard matthews turkey slices, malt loaves and tracker bars) and packing and sleeping and wooo!

happy glastonbury everyone! :-)

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

HAVE A FUN.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Angel Sainsbury's have sold out of malt loaf! Total buzz harshener!

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)
