Hi Luna, welcome back! You might consider starting a new thread, this one's getting a bit unwieldy.

-- Tuomas (tuomas.alh...) (webmail), July 25th, 2004. (later)

Obv. I ain't lady Luna. However Chick Extrordinaire deserves to put her feet up.

Ready, set.....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Sunday, 25 July 2004 17:47 (twenty years ago)

I've been having one of those sundays where you sit inside, meet no one and do nothing, just watch the telly (or post to ILE). This week I've been hanging out with friends and boozing up every night from Tuesday to Saturday, so a change of pace is nice.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 25 July 2004 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Detox is always a worthy idea.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Sunday, 25 July 2004 17:59 (twenty years ago)

For the second day in a row I'm going to spend 8 hours in a library watching the desk by myself with little to do. This should be evident on the Statscock.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:00 (twenty years ago)

You work Sundays? Thought that was the one day librarians could put their feet up and tell the students to bugger off til Monday.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:03 (twenty years ago)

librarians can do that all weekend. not library staff, however.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Seniority again rears its ugly head

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Just make sure you get hired for the right weekday job (I had to work Sundays for a few months at the start and I swiftly tired of that).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:18 (twenty years ago)

I'm actually up for a full-time position at the main library (which will have me working from 3-midnight on most weekdays). I don't mind working Sundays at all. I'd hate to work M-F 9-5.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:24 (twenty years ago)

I like yer basic 9-5 -- actually for me 7-4, plus a lunch hour -- because it leaves my evenings free, I'm usually home by 4:30 pm, and I know I don't take my work home with me -- that said, I fully sympathize with your wanting to work afternoon/evening hours, which I also did at the start, and which many of my coworkers who do work those times do so because it's convenient for them as well. You have to have a pretty good tolerance for it, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:27 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it helps that I'm used to it (did evening hours during college too). I'm a nite owl, I like getting up leisurely and having some time to write and dawdle before going to work. I still get off early enough to hang out with friends at a bar if the mood strikes.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:31 (twenty years ago)

9-4.45, and 4.30 on Friday. It's okay. How is everyone? I'm okay, feel a little strange this evening, I'll explain another time.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Anthony & Ned, what do librarians do on Sundays? Arrange books? Order new ones?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Library assistants, not librarians, my friend. ;-) As the buildings are generally open to the public, assistants are needed to handle things like checking books out and the like.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

some libraries are open on sundays. not everything shuts down that day.b

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:03 (twenty years ago)

yeah I don't think grad students would appreciate us taking a day off.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Is this an official thread? Not started by Luna, not numbered...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:35 (twenty years ago)

quick! somebody get a notary public!

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm a little intimidated by the thread title; I feel I've got to measure my postings with a little intellectual merit.

j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago)

Hi. I'm still in L.A.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:24 (twenty years ago)

I spent the entire day at the Met. Satiated lady right here. (Oh and you're hot, Luna. Uh, I mean, welcome back, Luna!)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Sunday, 25 July 2004 21:01 (twenty years ago)

So wait a minute. Anthony and Ned vote pro-choice and are against gun-contol laws?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 26 July 2004 00:55 (twenty years ago)

I believe in the right to die, yes

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 26 July 2004 00:57 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I just read the thread slower. Librarians....

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 26 July 2004 01:04 (twenty years ago)

So whats gonna happen to the LJ tittwas? It will wither and fade.. *sniff*

(Someone probably said this already. I am slow).

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 July 2004 01:11 (twenty years ago)

MTV2 is showing beavis & butthead at 1am on sundays! hooray!

however, due to my editor bitching at me over deadlines, i wound up not doing any overtime tonight, and writing two reviews and a column instead. feh. oh well.

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Monday, 26 July 2004 04:51 (twenty years ago)

So whats gonna happen to the LJ tittwas? It will wither and fade.. *sniff*

I was wondering about the same... Maybe we could try to keep it alive. I liked the format, it made me put up longer and more contemplative posts.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:28 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys!
Good to see you are back Luna, how was the trip?
Glad things are getting better for you Sam.
Sarah & Nick, how was the gig huh?
Dee & Julia, big hugs just because you are both sweeties.
*high fives huck* "my man!"
Chris, how is the baby situ going?
Nichole, hey pretty lady how the hell is nyc?
Hi Ned. (haven't said it in a while!)
KF, focus!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:32 (twenty years ago)

I saw Bryan on ILE today, I hope he posts here! Hey Bryan, how are you? *big hugs*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:41 (twenty years ago)

Hi PinXor. I hug you back. I'm generally ok though I really wish I was asleep (it's 5:45 AM CST). I'm very glad to know what you look like now. Don't ask me why but I find it comforting.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:45 (twenty years ago)

Haha, comforting in what way dude? (those are certainly not the best pics of me!!) Oh & why the hell are you still up?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:52 (twenty years ago)

oh thank goodness. getting into a tittwis thread before it's so long that it scares me. sometimes these threads feel like long emails from old friends. it's so nice to read, and then i don't post anything, and then it just gets longer and longer, and i feel bad, and then just end up avoiding it.

oh that sounds so pathetic.

hello everyone, in any case. it was so nice to see pink and james this weekend! and the cambridge folk were very nice, and i ran into a guy that lived in east quad at uni with me. weird!

i have a million things i should be doing, but i can't be bothered. sigh.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Hi Colette! wish you could have stuck around on Sat, punting was fun, in the end!!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Comforting in the way you feel when they get a character in a movie based on a character from a book right, and yet you don't look at all like I thought you would. No matter! I'm up because I slept all yesterday afternoon. It's already very light out so getting to sleep is going to be that much more difficult.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Like I said, not the best pick of me, but you get an idea! ;-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 10:12 (twenty years ago)

Yay pix of Pink! Baby making is not happening right now as she is at her female time.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 10:51 (twenty years ago)

Good morning all, and how's the DNC messing things up where you are, Chris?

j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Monday, 26 July 2004 10:53 (twenty years ago)

*bows* Aww that suxor!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 10:54 (twenty years ago)

No problems in Worcester. As for my wife I'll find out when she gets to work. She works in Newton. Im sure traffic will be hell.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:01 (twenty years ago)

Good morning everyone! Welcome to TITTWIS-land, Jeremy and Colette! It seems as though once you start posting here, you never quite stop.

Pink, it's cool to get a face to associate with the posts! Looks like you guys had a great time. That's more than excellent.

It's good that we seem to be slowly coalescing into one decent-sized whole again, with pretty much every single one of us sorta coming back into the fold. Welcome back, everyone.

Okay, I need to go for now. Have to finish getting ready and then get my you-know-what out the door! Have an excellent day, you guys!

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:02 (twenty years ago)

(Oh oh oh, and good luck with the DNC madness, Chris V!)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:02 (twenty years ago)

DNC madness really doesn't effect me all that much as I live 30 miles outside of Boston anyways. I don't have to go anywhere near the city, this week. Although my wife does and so do a couple of friends.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:04 (twenty years ago)

It's a madhouse this morning... I left for work 20 minutes early and arrived 10 late. And I live 4 miles away!

j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:10 (twenty years ago)

What's the DNC madness?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Democratic National Convention

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:13 (twenty years ago)

My friend works on State Street and he's coming from Haverhill, he's up shits creek all week.

Ah i see!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:14 (twenty years ago)

Um, can I get the Cambridge traffic new too please? ;-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:17 (twenty years ago)

you know, the thing i like least about mondays is that i get to spend all morning playing on ILX and then have to spend the afternoon in the office where i can't really do that. the contrast makes it worse than the days where i spend all day at office 2.

see you all tomorrow!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:19 (twenty years ago)

this really seems to smack of a job-creation scheme, I think.

j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Bye Colette!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:20 (twenty years ago)

The first Fake Fictions show was fine. There were only like 4 people that watched us, and they were people we knew. Everyone else sat outside and ate and drank. But that's the kind of place it is, more of a hang-out spot than a place where people go specifically to listen to music. On the plus side, I think we played pretty well. There were some tempo issues due to nervousness, but no horrible mess-ups or anything. Now we need to finish up the demo so we can get shows at places where people will actually watch us.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:39 (twenty years ago)

Hooray! it might not have been the best venue, but glad it went ok.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:40 (twenty years ago)

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Hooray! Sarah looking cool as evah! :-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 11:53 (twenty years ago)

I didn't know what you looked like either, Pink, those pictures were nice, in my opinion. It's funny, even though I've never met any of you folks, I have a some sort of image on most of you, thanks to the What Do You Look Like threads. And now even Gear, the mysterious one, has revealed his visage!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:08 (twenty years ago)

I have outed myself!! *cries*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:10 (twenty years ago)

It's okay, you're cute.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:12 (twenty years ago)

As is everyone in those FAP pics.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:13 (twenty years ago)

It used to be that there were only a few ppl that I had actually sent my pic to so they could put a face to the name as such. I couldn't post that pic cos it was with my godson & I don't want his pic all over the internet & I didn't have any others online. If I scan some pics, where can i host them?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that FAP looks like a lot of fun. And, Pink, you are very cute! I had no clue what you looked like, yet I felt like I kind of know you anyway, so it was nice to have a pic. You know, what everyone else said. :-D

I had a little bit of fun at our first show, in those few moments when I wasn't nervous as hell. Now that the FIRST is done with, I think I'll be more relaxed. It's just like playing a new song at a gig to try it out, but times ten (or eleven I think it was - I just wanted to say Times Ten :-D ).

I'm listening to the Primitives BEST OF cd, trying to drown out the LITE radio station we have to listen to at work.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Pink you can host them on photoisland.com.

I just found out my boss is on vacation this week. i busted a nizzut on my desk.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:26 (twenty years ago)

Cool, I'll get my ones developed & get some pics hosted then!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:28 (twenty years ago)

is that mr. pink in the photos with you?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Uh huh, that's James is a very drunken state indeed!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:36 (twenty years ago)

Pink: In keeping with the ilx tradition of naming cats, 'pepper' had to be in there somehow

Hm. I didn't even know that there was a tradition, but our cats got named after two hot peppers, didn't they?

Sam: While in the crazy house I read about 5 books, grew hairy since I couldn't shave, missed listening to music terribly, colored in lots of coloring books (I've discovered the new means to calming my manic-y states which doesn't include alky-hol), discovered I truly wasn't *that* crazy or *that* bad off, and realized I might enjoy being a mental health professional. Someday. Right now I still wear the scarlet "C" and must use plastic forks in the cafeteria.

When I was inpatient briefly they were nice enough to let me listen to my ipod in the supervised common room for a while each day, but of course I had to hand over my ipod and my headphones as soon as I was done. Funny, I'd never have thought of anything bad to do with the headphone cord until I asked an orderly and was told "sometimes people try to strangle or hang themselves with them." I still don't know what's dangerous about an ipod, though I guess I'd rather have it locked up than risk having another patient try to steal it from me when I have to sleep in a room that doesn't lock.

I was totally amazed at the amount of shit that wasn't safe for me when I got there. Like, they took my manpurse because it has a strap and because (though I didn't even really think about it) I had about 4 safety pins stuck through it for emergencies.

I never tried coloring in books, but drawing has always been one of the few things that will calm me down. That and playing guitar or recording... The problem is usually when I'm feeling hypomanic it's really hard for me to get started on anything that will help calm me down because I have the attention span of a gnat, no motivation and an overwhelming desire to crawl out of my skin.

Sarah: I'm listening to the Primitives BEST OF cd

They have a BEST OF??!! They only had three albums, and the second one had some songs from the first one on it. The third one never came out everywhere (I know it was never released in America), and it sucked a fat one anyway.

Weird. I'm looking at the track listing for the best of now.

The Fake Fictions are getting stuck in my iPod as soon as I get a chance to update it. (I've been so lazy getting my office/studio set up since we moved that I haven't actually updated my iPod with new music in like 6 months.)

Also, since we were posting music links on the last thread, I figured I'd shamelessly request a listen for myself. Nick already heard this stuff, but I have some songs up here: http://www.mushrush.com/musica/ -- One is an unfinished demo thing, but the other four actually got completed.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Red bean buns rule.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit.
I didn't even see this thread all freakin' day!
I wanna know what PinXor looks like (yo, hi-5 right back atcha!)

I visited with my 89 yr-old last-living grandparent on the weekend. Hadn't seen him in nearly 10 years, mostly because he lives in a small city four.five hours north of here. Was interesting. He's really old, but still lives in his own house with no nurse or anything. And he's still got lots of hair! And he's my mother's father, so, isn't that the one that matters? Found out that he was in the English Channel just before and just after D-Day. Had no idea. He was on a Corvette (as most Saskatchewan boys were).
I was explaining to a friend yesterday about how Corvettes served as escorts and he thought I was talking about makes of cars and it was sort of absurd.

Also, I've outlined several NEW jokes, including one about APPLES. Like the fruit.

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm working up some material about going to fabric stores but I think it might be too boring/situational. Funny, though.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 26 July 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Sure, McIntosh apples are good, but technically, they're not Delicious.

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago)

which is my way of saying, bring on the fabric store jokes!

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:13 (twenty years ago)

I went and deleted myself from OKcupid again last night (I had once before), because it generally annoys me. I do searches and end up making fun of all my matches and then wondering if I'm compatible with anyone really, o how pathetic, etc, whatever. The cool people on there are ilxors (Tuomas, you were a match). I found a guy who was good at Scrabble (yay, of course), but he listed cunnilingus among his talents (um, yeah, things I prefer not to know until I know someone MUCH BETTER). There was something else he listed that was really glaringly dud in addition, I've forgotten what, so I gave up. And deleted myself.

And then I was talking to someone on IM and got curious about the virgin test and took it and they made me rejoin to get my results.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 26 July 2004 18:38 (twenty years ago)

That's how they get you every time.

Listing yourself as a talented cunnilinguist is only classic if you also list references who can vouch for you.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 26 July 2004 18:46 (twenty years ago)

You want phone numbers or email addresses?

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:49 (twenty years ago)

Maybe the girlz are just saying a guy's good at cunnilingus because it's clear the person needs more practice, and flattery works better than criticism with such a thing, I'd suspect...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 26 July 2004 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Or maybe they'd just rather I busy my mouth with that than with boring 'em to death with my lame jokes about different kinds of apples.
"Yeah, but is it Delicious?"
"Shut up and eat me out."

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:59 (twenty years ago)

alright, i scored a job interview in portland during my time there! this just might work out after all!

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:07 (twenty years ago)

haha Huck

Also, hi Bryan! Great to see your pics, Pink! And I do suspect I'm using too many exclamation points. Glad to hear that NA/Sarah gig went well too. Wish I could've been there...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Congrats Mr. Kingfish, having a job set up when you move makes things considerably easier, so I wish you luck.

Julia, we still want to trek out to the burbs and hang out with you sometime.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Where are these Pink pics? Dammit.

And, I hope it goes without saying that I'm glad to see Bryan back in these parts. Also, go team for victories (of sorts) of Kinfish, St. Nick + Sarah, and everybody else!

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Hey fuckfaces!
Where the Pink pics be at?
I'm not asking again. I'll just stand right here and act the asshole. Right here. That's right, not going anywhere until I see those pics. I'm just gonna glare at you like I just did at the, erm, co-worker who came in and asked me if the person whose chair I've been sitting in for the last two weeks is going to be in today.
"No she's been on holiday for the last two weeks."
"She's on holiday?"
GLARE, as I swallow a remark about a reporter's supposed keen eye for detail.

Fuckfaces.

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago)

There are Pink pics linked to in the Cambridge FAP thread.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:50 (twenty years ago)

there's a link upthread huck, calm down.

yeah Martin, it was a pain in the ass to use all the stuff I kept behind the counter. They kept my toiltries back there and I had to ask to use them. suckage. I was really wishing I had an iPod but wondered about the cord. they might have kept just for robbery factor though.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Hey, Sam. I'm glad you're back.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:54 (twenty years ago)

:) thank you sarah. I've got a million metric tons of work to do so I'm going to stop playing around on the web for now. . .

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:59 (twenty years ago)

It's funny, when my friend was in, they didn't took away any of her stuff, even though she was at the "maximum security" ward. Maybe they didn't deem her as harmful to herself, or maybe psychiatric hospitals are different in Finland than in the US.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:59 (twenty years ago)

Well don't I look the fool.
The computing machine I've been using lately scrolls much faster than the one I usually use, and I'm really hoppped on coffee (and maybe hash, as was alleged on the new starwarsname thread).

anyway, carry on... good you're back, Sam.

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 21:28 (twenty years ago)

Where the Pink pics be at?
I'm not asking again

Huck, you bitch. Download my songs upthread and listen to them, and then I'll tell you where the Pink link is.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Sadly, Martin, I have no sound at my home computer and would send the wrong message to my bosses if I was listening to music at work. I suck and I know it.

Huck, Monday, 26 July 2004 23:14 (twenty years ago)

clap your hands!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:25 (twenty years ago)

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 02:32 (twenty years ago)

oops, tell me what you REALLY feel about Bank One, please. ;)
(Yeah, their fees can be a bitch. Esp if you don't elect to go the direct deposit route.)

Sam, I'm glad you're feeling better. Sounds like you needed that time away from everyone else and with people who could help direct you to the right path. Good luck with the recovery process.

Pink, I took another look at the picture with you and your boy, and it is one of the sweetest things I've seen! So much love on display. (Okay, I'll stop before I make myself ill. *laugh*)

I just finished signing up for about twelve fanlistings, like the little lemming I am. I was surprised to see there were no Japan fanlistings. Am almost tempted to start one up myself, but I don't have the time to devote to such a project. Not yet, anyway.

Good luck with your band, Sarah and Nick! I'll have to try out your music sometime ASAP, though ASAP isn't going to be immediate. Lots of things to do, so little time to do them in.

pink and james weren't sickenly cute (and i don't have a high threshold for mush-- two of my friends used to pull apart after being mushy and say 'somewhere, colette is vomiting'), but they were just right cute. they even did some sort of 'yes!' or 'woo!' or something including arm movements, at exactly the same moment. which was cute.

glad to see you back, sam!

I also watched Da Ali G show for the first time the other night and found it rather hysterical. I know the Brits don't really care for it, but I pissed my pants. Especially with the Borat character.

She lives in this house over there
Has her world outside it
Scrapples in the earth with her fingers and her mouth
She's five years old

Thread worms on a string
Keeps spiders in her pocket
Collects fly wings in a jar
Scrubs horse flies
And pinches them on a line
Ohhh...

She has one friend, he lives next door
They're listenening to the weather
He knows how many freckles she's got
She scratches his beard

She's painting huge books
And glues them together
They saw a big raven
It glided down the sky
She touched it
Ohh...

Today is a birthday
They're smoking cigars
He's got a chain of flowers
And sows a bird in her knickers
Ohhh...

They're smoking cigars
They lie in the bathtub
A chain of ... flowers

By the way, Martin, I love your coffee song! I listened to it and the humpty dumpty song on the computer last night because Nick had downloaded them. :-D

Huck, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:09 (twenty years ago)

That's the one, Huck - I'm reading the King Suckerman screenplay, penned by the author himself. Halfway through at the moment, but enjoying it.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:11 (twenty years ago)

He's sort of a new school hardboiled crime writer outta D.C. He always uses music very prominently in his books, which are mostly about working class D.C. neighbourhoods where hip Greek dudes are pals with badass black dudes.

Martin, I love your coffee song!

Thanks... That song actually has lyrics (and there's a "Part II" that is fused onto the end of it as well). It probably won't be too terribly long before I finish it, as it's one of the ones I'm working on at the moment (though I pretty much scrapped that particular version and am recording all of it again).

How'd it go, Colette?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Not okay. Not okay at all.

What's wrong, Julia?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 17:39 (twenty years ago)

I don't even know how to explain it. My health is shitty (shockah) and I talked to my doctor this morning. Asked some questions I'd avoided asking because I was really afraid of the answers. For good reason, it turns out. I was hanging on to hopes that might not be realistic.

Things are frequently much more complex than you'd like them to be, and sometimes that can be really really scary.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Damn right, more's the pity. What did the doc say?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 17:49 (twenty years ago)

My immune symptoms don't fit my endocrine diagnosis. And various other things implying that what I have is more than she can treat. Which leads to other Unpleasant conclusions. Blahblah complicated. In any case, it royally sucks.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Jesus....(hug) Do you know what (if any) options you have?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that Julia, be hope things'll eventually turn better for you.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Damn, Julia: good luck. If there's anything I can do (a chat or whatever, I don't suppose there is anything actually useful), you know where I am.

I'm afraid I've been in bad shape myself. Depressed (though not really unhappy exactly) and anxious, missing lots of work and getting in trouble, and seeing the worst in everything - this has added to the stress of those closest to me too, which makes me feel really bad. I can make no sense of it - I have no reasons to be unhappy, nothing bad to worry about, nothing other than this fucking illness stressing me. It's hard to cope with. At least I've not been genuinely suicidal yet.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 20:20 (twenty years ago)

I wish it was as simple as saying "Hey guys and gals, cheer up!" but I know it isn't. All the same, I hope all of you pull through and that the sun shines soon on your side of the street.

Huck, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 05:47 (twenty years ago)

I don't suppose anyone else would like it if this thread became its own board?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 05:47 (twenty years ago)

Just a thought. Might be a bad idea. Don't really want to get into a huge blah-de-blah about it.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 05:54 (twenty years ago)

It might lead to complaints from the other ILXors of setting up an private clique. As long as these threads remain free of abuse and bullshit, I'm not sure whether a new board is needed. Though I have to admit my heart stopped for a second when I saw Amazing Randy's name there upthread.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 06:41 (twenty years ago)

Nah, I don't think this should become its own board. I agree with Tuomas in that it would seem as though we were trying to insulate ourselves from everyone else, when in reality this thread is all about inclusion, inclusion, inclusion. Even more inclusion than in everywhere else on this board, in fact. Want to post on this thread? All you have to do is to have a life to talk about! Everyone has one of those!

Yeah me & my boy are sickly sweet tis true. [...] Dee, sorry we didn't mean to make you sick!

Oh NO NO NO, Pink, I didn't mean it like that!! I just meant that I was going on and on about the picture so much that I was making MYSELF ill! I'm sorry! You guys made me smile! Really!

Julia, I'm so sorry your condition is giving you more heartache and complications. You seriously do not deserve any of this. I remain hopeful that someday it will be proven that you've hit rock bottom already and will end up actually improving.

Martin, I hope your condition improves as well. It sounds like your life's been rather difficult lately and that your condition has been a contributing factor to it. I'm sorry to hear this.

(Hey, the Amazing Randy's here! HI DERE!)

Good luck to everyone here.

From my morning newspaper.

Ex-football player sues school over sex hazing
By J.M. Lawrence
Wednesday, July 28, 2004

A former West Newbury high school football player hit Pentucket Regional School District with a $5 million lawsuit yesterday over a crude sexual assault he says he endured almost three years ago at training camp.

Matthew Weymouth was a 15-year-old sophomore when an older player lured him to a room so the quarterback could ``tea bag'' him by rubbing their genitals over his face, according to the suit filed in federal court in Boston. Another youth assaulted Weymouth with a peeled banana while 15-20 other students ``watched and jeered'' on Aug. 23, 2001, at a camp near Effingham, N.H., says the suit before U.S. District Court Judge Mark L. Wolf.

Yeah. I like that even if there are multiple subjects being discussed, the thread never really gets derailed in the traditional sense.

About the only thing I don't like about this thread is a pet peeve I have with many, and that's when people are addressing "Martin," and I have to think to figure out if they are talking to me or Mr. Skidmore. But that's a minor complaint, and I know that he was here first anyway...

"the dish has nothing to do with the happy day -- wedding soup is a mistranslation. To say two things go well together in Italian, one can say si sposono bene (they're well married) -- or, more to the south, that they're maritati, i.e. married. The combination of greens and meat in a clear broth certainly does work well and deserves to be called maritata -- no wedding involved."

This thread is too quiet! I blame Casuistry. And Sarah.
I don't have too much to say unfortunately. I need to figure out what do with my life. So, should I get a Masters in English Lit.? I'm not really sure why I would. But lots of other people seem to think I should. Could I teach English with a Masters? Would it help me get a job in a publishing company? Both of those sound fun. But the idea of applying to grad school is really intimidating. Especially trying to get recommendations from old professors who aren't going to remember me. Hmm.

Huck, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Nick, talk to some publishers and ask what it would take to get a job with them, if that's the intent, don't just assume an MA would do it. The only cases I'm aware of (and I don't claim any expertise) where a master's degree made a difference to someone's career is where they used it as a skills conversion thing - a whole bunch of my colleagues (I work in a sort of software house) did languages or theology or something as a BA then an MSc in computing to get them into that line. If your first degree was in something similar, I'm not sure they carry all that much weight.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:13 (twenty years ago)

Ha, if I think of Jeanne's name and telekinesis, I imagine a cross between Jean Grey (Marvel Girl then Phoenix) and Nick Fury - a telekinetic with an eyepatch dressed in black leather and carrying a big gun. Actually, that sort of thinking about Jeanne, given my advanced years, might be bad for my heart...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:15 (twenty years ago)

I hereby nominate Je4nne as the TITTWISer's Class of '04 mostly likely to one day be the namesake of a badass superhero. With Velveteen Bingo as runner-up.

Shit. Forgot about Luna Moth from Kav/Clay.

Huck, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:24 (twenty years ago)

hey guys, just saying hi.

apparently i have the kiss of death for computers. the one my brother's company lent me just up and died yesterday. os completely wiped out, no apparent reason. maybe it commited suicide rather than be used by me.

so anyway he's repairing it but it won't be done tonight so i'm not sure when i'll be online again. just wanted to say hi and give *hugs* to everyone.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:30 (twenty years ago)

hi sam! how're you doing?

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:31 (twenty years ago)

it's show time, dudes!

huck, Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:49 (twenty years ago)

Rah for Sam! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:52 (twenty years ago)

Hi. I'm home.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 29 July 2004 02:47 (twenty years ago)

My whole reason for wanting this on its own board is so that I wouldn't have to check this board to check in with you.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 29 July 2004 02:48 (twenty years ago)

Haha, Jeanne has the mystical power of typing with her arms folded and Sam has the amazing ability to kill any computer she touches. What other computer-related superpowers do we have?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 29 July 2004 07:45 (twenty years ago)

I can type and letters magically appear on screen.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 07:57 (twenty years ago)

I can also misspell liek a motherfucker.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 07:57 (twenty years ago)

She's just sixteen years old
Leave her alone, they say
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
But I want you to know -
CHORUS:
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen - ever seen.
It's like having a dream
Where nobody has a heart
It's like having it all
And watching it fall apart
And I would wait till the end of time for you
And do it again, it's true
I can't measure my love
There's nothing to compare it to
But I want you to know -

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 10:33 (twenty years ago)

The Mardones really pumps my nads.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 10:34 (twenty years ago)

(yawn)... the prolifers were pamphleting in front of my house at 6:30 am today. that was really ridiculous.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 29 July 2004 10:58 (twenty years ago)

Hi dere. This board has been great to read back on, though I hope Martin and Julia are okay, and that Pink's housebuying goes through.

I'm DJing at Club Freaky Trigger tonight, which might be fun. Sarah and I are doing it together, though she has far better and cooler taste than me.

Does Robster come on this thread? And Archel, if you're around, will you be attending Saturday's boat do?

Teeny - how are the teeth? I told you it was no biggie :)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:29 (twenty years ago)

Shouldn't you be asking, 'how are the gums'? ;-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:34 (twenty years ago)

everything's still great with the whole mouth area, I have a followup appt with the dentist today. He had given me new antibiotics which I started yesterday but then quit immediately as I got a bit of a rash on my chest. :( This is now three antibiotics that my body doesn't like.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:46 (twenty years ago)

I'm taking antibiotics at the mo which can make me feel really sick. bleurgh!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 12:06 (twenty years ago)

kefir can help a bit with that I find!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 29 July 2004 12:40 (twenty years ago)

I just have to make sure I eat something before I take them! *sigh*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 12:49 (twenty years ago)

The last three weeks of living hard have caught up with me.

Huck, Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:31 (twenty years ago)

Dude! You feeling the burn?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:31 (twenty years ago)

I am one of those idiots that takes antibiotics every single day. I know - I already said I'm an idiot! So, I feel semi-crappy every day, but not as bad as when I'd get kidney infections tous le temps (too much information, sorry).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

You take them everyday?

I think I need to leave ilx alone at the moment. You know when you take offence to someone & you can't get past it...?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Don't go!
I need frivolity, festivity, defenestration!

Huck, Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:51 (twenty years ago)

Welcome back, Chris P.
I don't think I want to go to grad school. I just need to work really hard to get a job that I want. Like check classifieds and send out resumes and stuff. Buckle down.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:52 (twenty years ago)

I just taught my co-worker how to do the Roger Rabbit. In front of 200 fund accountants.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:52 (twenty years ago)

Huck, I'm sure it's temporary, don't panic. Also I still have an hour at work! ;-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Aw, I have to get down to serious work in about ten minutes anyway. The person I've been filling in for over the last few weeks is coming back either tomorrow or Tuesday, and, uh, I've been doing everything, but, y'know, doing it MY WAY.

Huck, Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

but pinXor you just started a good thread...

kephm, Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Apparently not!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:10 (twenty years ago)

i don't follow...

kephm, Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Nevermind...!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:15 (twenty years ago)

bah. car insurance is coming due at exactly the time that i head on my trip. Looks like i'll be selling even MORE CDs to pay for this shit...

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Sigh. Nobody in Gi-town is paying anything worth the bother for CDs anymore. It used to be like my second piggy bank, every month I'd take all the shitty promo discs down and get money money money. Now I just give 'em to some charitable whatever.

Huck, Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Wait... Pink, was I the one to offend you? If so, I'm incredibly sorry, I didn't mean anything harsly in what I wrote.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:46 (twenty years ago)

i've been on a conference call with some clients and they have been arguing over one issue for 45 minutes. thinking my phone was on mute I blurted out "hurry the fuck up!". Turns out my phone was not on mute and they heard me. Oops.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:14 (twenty years ago)

whoops
did you get my email bingo?

kephm, Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:15 (twenty years ago)

home email?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:17 (twenty years ago)

or did you send it to the poopsmcgee email? I haven't checked that in months.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:18 (twenty years ago)

any mail can be sent here cmvenuti2005@charter.net

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Pink, I can't see who upset you on your (excellent) thread. I'm astonished you managed to look at all those images - I get seriously disturbed (like, permanently) if I just see one picture of a murdered body or similar. Having said that, I have this conviction that one day I will either see a plane crash or find a dead body. I dream of plane crashes all the time.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:49 (twenty years ago)

I think it was me. Pink, I tried to send a contrite email but a big scary daemon bounced it back.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:14 (twenty years ago)

oh goodie. my car ins isn't due till NEXT month, meaning i have more cash to take to seattle.

PS2 & gamecube still for sale, unless the one ilxor who emailed me about them responds soon.

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:14 (twenty years ago)

do you mean me? i never got a reply from you...how much for the ps2? $70.00

kephm, Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:34 (twenty years ago)

actually, i thought i sent you two replies. hmm. oh yeah, and adam parker also emailed about it, too, but i haven't heard from him in a coupla days.

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Does the fact that I have the urge to hang up on 90% of the people who call me mean that I am ill-suited to answer the helpline at a national health-related nonprofit organization?

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:44 (twenty years ago)

my email can be skrewy...send it agia if you want to

kephm, Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Huck, Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:51 (twenty years ago)

I read that as 'skeevy rabbit' and thought of Meet the Feebles

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:51 (twenty years ago)

kephm, might be time to leave hotmail behind. I've got a gmail invite with your name on it if you're interested.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:53 (twenty years ago)

ha! i just had my quarterly performance review, and they want me to lessen the "material issues" in my files so that they can promote me to an incrementaly-higher status(which they kinda hafta, at some point), or they might have to issue a verbal warning or something. oh no! guess where i'll be in a month--not at this fuckin' company, that's for sure!

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:57 (twenty years ago)

I would certainly enjoy a gmail invite!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:58 (twenty years ago)

im drinking beer, listening to H-Town "knocking da boots" and playing poker does it get any better....

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:01 (twenty years ago)

ok martin, i might take you up on that

kephm, Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:03 (twenty years ago)

I would certainly enjoy a gmail invite!

-- Bryan

It is done...

Don't forget to check your spam mailbox, as I'm told that's where hotmail puts gmail invitations instead of the inbox.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 29 July 2004 21:06 (twenty years ago)

kephm just let me know... there's no way I'll use up all the invites I've got any time soon now that everyone has stopped clamoring for an account.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 29 July 2004 21:07 (twenty years ago)

So one of the places I went to on this trip was Mono Lake.

Mono Lake is bizarre and wonderful. It's a salty alkali lake that became saltier because it has no outlets and so the water evaporated. It's, like 10% saline. Anyway so there are all these structures, tufa, and they look like this:

And it's like walking around Mars. Totally awesome.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 30 July 2004 03:46 (twenty years ago)

What, is image posting totally off? Here: http://www.csufresno.edu/ees/Homepage_pics/9-mono-lake%20tufa-1.jpg

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 30 July 2004 03:50 (twenty years ago)

Where else did you go? I love hearing about vacations.

oops (Oops), Friday, 30 July 2004 03:51 (twenty years ago)

Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Oceanside (SoCal), L.A., San Francisco, then back home.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 30 July 2004 04:06 (twenty years ago)

It was all pretty great, but Mono Lake was unexpected and fantastic.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 30 July 2004 04:07 (twenty years ago)

you just missed stompin' tom in regina.

Huck, Friday, 30 July 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago)

Sorry to make ppl paranoid, that wasn't my intention. Also it wasn't my specific thread either. It's just when you know ppl keep turning up wherever blah blah blah ignore me!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 07:02 (twenty years ago)

I still don't get it, but I guess I don't need to.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 30 July 2004 08:58 (twenty years ago)

Was that to me Tuomas?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:01 (twenty years ago)

All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom
Just shake your rump

Just shake your rump

Just shake your rump
All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom

Check, baby, check, baby, 1-2-3
Check, baby, check, baby, 1-2
Check, baby, check, baby, 1

It's called rump shaker, the piece is like sweeter than candy
I'm feelin' manly and you say it's comin' in handy
Slidin' my claws from New York down by N. Virginia
Ticklin' you around Delaware before I enter
Total seduction, from face, hips, to feet
A wiggle and jiggle can make the night complete
Now since you got the body of the year, come and get the award
Here's a hint, it's like a long chop sword
Flip town, so let me see you shake it up like dice
The way you shake your rump is turnin' mighty men to mice
But A+ got a surprise that's a back breaker
Now let me see you shake your rump like a rump shaker

All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom
Just shake your rump
All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom
Just shake your rump

It's Teddy, ready with the 1-2 checker
Wreckx-N-Effect is in effect, but I'm the wrecker
Off the track, 'bout the honey shakin' rumps and they backs in
Booties of the cuties steady shakin' but relaxin'
The action is packed than a jam like the kinds of beat
Bound to get you up, cold flowin' like a faucet
Not meant to make you sit, Not meant to make you jump
But Jet make the hotties in the parties shake your rump
I like the way you comb your hair, uh
I like the stylish clothes you wear, uh
It's just the little things you do, uh
That makes me wanna get with you, uh

All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom
Just shake your rump
All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom

All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom
Just shake your rump

Shake it, shake it, shake it, now shake it
She could spend every birthday butt naked
Body and soul, makin' me wanna squish her
More just in the game a rumper like a sub-woofer
Shake it to the left, shake it to the right
I don't mind stickin' it to her every single night
Come on pass the poom-poom, send it to papa
Shake it, baby, shake it, baby, shake it, don't stoppa
Let me see you do the booty hock, and now I'll make the booty stock
Now drop and do the booty rock
The way you're shakin' your grill's really kill
It's makin' broth' ills up a whole lot of pills
But I ain't into trickin' just to treatin'
And I ain't into treatin' every trick that I'm meetin'
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Yeah, shake it, baby, shake it down, shake it like that

All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom
Just shake your rump
All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom

Huck, Friday, 30 July 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

I HOPE EVERYONE IS LISTENING TO TEENX0R

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

I feel like crap; I just had to fail a fourth grader. Now he'll be repeating the year for the 3rd time. He's shy, awkward, sweet, lazy, and it's totally gonna wreak havoc on his self-esteem. But he got a sixty-three in summer school, and passing is sixty-five. Man, this stinks.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Damn, poor kid.(Though I don't doubt tis necessary, still bites having to be the hatchet man.) Have you tried tutoring?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:14 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could listen to teeny too, but curses no music at work. This is a sucky day. I was going to go see Thee Village midnight showing this weekend, but perhaps not, now. My relationship is ending. and it's raining. fuxxor. I think I need kitten pictures.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:19 (twenty years ago)

Nichole, you perving on my boy huh? ;-)

(laugh) J is pretty safe for now, as my perving skills are still somewhat rusty.....:>

>I know I owe you so many emails, I'll try to write one today & send >you a pdf of our house!! It's not perfect pics, but it'll give you >the idea!

Wahey! Can't wait to see it. (After all that grief, you certainly deserve it!) As for the emails, can't wait to get those. Besides, it's not so much that you're behind; I just answer them at superhuman speed.....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I've been tutoring him for three months, and the summer school's essentially one-on-one.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:22 (twenty years ago)

my asshat boss is gone - i can listen to the music 'till me ears bleed¡

dyson (dyson), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:25 (twenty years ago)

hey doods it is my last radio show! hit me up on aim if you want to listen.

I'm on right now, T, with speakers blasting. What's your AIM handle, again? I'm online too, so send me an IM.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I've been tutoring him for three months, and the summer school's essentially one-on-one.

School is tough enough at any time, but can be made rougher if you think that teacher's given up on you. (No, I know you haven't. However, I don't doubt it feels discouraging, just the same.)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Jocelyn, that suXor, here!

Nichole, I dont know where this week has gone. Damn not having interweb access at home. i promise next week, you will have an email & hopefully i will be able to tell you some good news!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:30 (twenty years ago)

awww.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Yay! Looking forward to reading it, missy Pink......

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago)

(Hola, Jocelyn. Know what tis like to feel like tis just one tough thing after another. Sounds trite as hell, but hang in there. Things DO get better; friends have had to inject the positive vibes into my bloodstream, at times.)

Hola, everyone. Tis a shining bright day in NJ. (Cover yer ears, lads!) As my period is nearly up, can look forward to feeling less like Ms. Hyde ---and being my usual kickass self----for the rest of the month. Thank God.

Seeing They Might Be Giants tonight at Prospect Park should go miles toward cheering me up. Frigging swinging emotions.....*sigh*

Tis a shining bright day in NJ.

Holler for the homestate.

My interviews this week went well, though. _That's_ a plus! (One only took 40 mins though, from start to end, and no testing, which was wierd. WTF?)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:00 (twenty years ago)

it's "civic holiday" on monday here in ontario

dyson (dyson), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I'm feeling pretty good because last night I updated my resume and cover letter and applied for a couple of jobs, making me feel like I'm working a little bit to putting myself in a more satisfying (or at least financially stimulating situation). Please we have friends coming in from out of town this weekend, and Oneida is playing Saturday night, and there are shows in Wicker Park (the park itself) all weekend, including Canasta (jaymc's band), the Posies, French Kicks, and someone else good I forgot about.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:06 (twenty years ago)

You go, Nick!

Stomptastic.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:30 (twenty years ago)

You should have seen my Pixies review. The running theme was that it was so cool to see the Pixies, I had to invent new words, since the old ones didn't suffice.
Stomptastic will not appear in the review I'm punching out right now.

ILX being what it is, I see them popping out of the woodwork.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:28 (twenty years ago)

hey guys. how are your fridays going?

sarah, has a doctor told you to take anti-biotics everyday? that's really not a good idea. you'll become immune to them quicker and may not be able to use them when you really need them. have you taken daily cranberry pills to ward off kidney infections?

jeremy, how much are you selling yr machines for?

i'm using hank's computer for a couple of hours so I can finish up some freelance work. sucks b/c I could've earned $600 by now but it looks like i'll be lucky to come out with $300. :( the tower my bro's company let me take home didn't work either. i think my days of computing are done. i'm so frustrated that i'm never bringing another one into my home.

feeling like crap today and skipped my outpatient therapy. i hate not feeling decent more than two days at a time. jesus. . .

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Aw, Sammy, sucks that you feel so terrible. (hug) So the out patient therapy isn't helping? Any other options?

Why only $300? Taxes/bills?

My Friday's improving, as I'll be seeing TMBG in a few hours. Jesus, I missed gigging!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:00 (twenty years ago)

thanks nichole. the outpatient stuff has been pretty good. i feel bad about not going as i'll miss seeing my friends. but i'm completely exhausted. i've going full-speed since i got out and it's taken a toll on me. also i wanted to do some of this freelance design but it turns out i can't b/c hank doesn't have illustrator. story of my life lately. ..

i'm getting paid per tshirt i design (tshirts for high school football teams). i could have done twice as many designs by now if i was able to work from home. *sigh*

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:03 (twenty years ago)

No home access? Was the saga of m'life for the past year, so I know what a pain in the arse it is. Can you install Illustrator on his comp from a disc?

Know how frustrating lack of access is, but we'd miss ya if you totally disappeared.

Going full-speed? Not surprised you're feeling burnout. Try scheduling personal time for yourself; tis a must.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:15 (twenty years ago)

i don't have an illustrator disk at home. both of the computers i own are completely fried and i don't see them getting fixed anytime soon.

i'm just worn-out mentally and physically. there's too much going on right now and very little time to accomplish it before school starts a week from monday. i'm just feeling very fragile. my brother is having a lot of personal problems which inevitably hit me like they are my own. while i was feeling really good when i came out of the hospital, i'm feeling worse and worse every day.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Accomplish what the hell you can. The rest will just have to wait; you can't do it all.

my brother is having a lot of personal problems which inevitably hit me like they are my own.

Substitute "brothers" for "mother" and you'd have been describing me all last year (scratch that: most of my life). Being a sensitive lass too, your wanting to help when you see pain is automatic. However, my stubborn soul is still learning that you can't fix others' probs for them. To save your sanity, you can offer to be a listening ear if you're ever needed....but that's all. You have to look after your own health, first and foremost.

*end of sermon* Ahem. Climbing down, now....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Sam, You know, I used to just go to this Pati3nt 1st/ Urgent Car3 place whenever I'd get - uh - sick. They would give me pills, I would take them, it would go away. If it didn't, I would come back, they'd give me something else. But then one day I went there and they told me they weren't allowed to give me any more! It got to where I was coming in there twice in one month with back-to-back UTIs and they said I had to see a specialist because they weren't allowed to see me for it any more until I did. Also they said, hey, you should just get them to give you a perscription to take antibiotics every day.

So, I went to a ur0logist (boy, this story is fun) and he said you have to take antibiotics every day. And I said, b-but I read in this book about cystitus that you're NOT supposed to do that. And he laughed for a long time and then was like, oh, those silly self-help books... blah ti blah... I am the doctor. So then I went to my gyn0 (I told you this story was good) and he was like, Sarah, I've been telling you all along that's what you need to do. It's the only way.

So then I thought, huh, I guess I'll try this for a while.

The urologist said you can't get used to it, there are just different kinds of infections, so you might need to use a different type of antibiotic sometimes.

Fascinating story, huh?

Really I think the most you're supposed to do this is 6 months, but the reality is I tried every fucking thing I read about and kept being uncomfortable and in pain and they ran tests on me and didn't offer any other solutions. Also, I HATE HATE HATE getting them and so I am living in denial that these pills are bad for me pretending there will never be a day when I have to live with them again.

IN the meantime, I'm almost out of the pills and need to get a doctor here in Chicago and I'm half-scared he won't perscribe them because then I would have to go back to the way things were BEFORE.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION!!! Sorry, guys.

THE END (or is it??)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:34 (twenty years ago)

my boss gets utis all the time, too, sarah, and she gets like 3-6 months prescriptions for peridium and the antibiotic (or is peridium the antibiotic? i forget) anyway, gets 3-6 month prescriptions for the antibiotic and the painkiller in one shot.

i feel for you.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 30 July 2004 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Sarah-I'm sorry you're feeling poorly. I've had UTI/antibiotics problems as well, you can get these great Cranactin pills at health food stores to help with UTIs, and also watch out for the dreaded *yeast* infection if taking antibiotics every day. Yogurt is a good preventative measure.

Happy almost birthday, dude. I'm going to be really really obnoxious and link you the Fake Fictions website even though everyone else has already been subjected to massive amounts of talk about mine & Sarah's new band having a website with music on it. Sorry everyone. I am a proud papa.

How extraordinary, that people of such similar demographics as we have should wind up at this cozy website.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:18 (twenty years ago)

Since I'll be up to my nads in silly comic books, cartoons (the Justice League movie is on YTV tomorrow!!!), and whatever else for the next four days, happy birthday Chris, from all of here in Saskatchewan. (it's not always Aug. 2, Saskatchewan Day, it's the first Mon of Aug.)

Who am I kidding, I'll be around.
I may have an unintentional b'day present for you, Chris! They haven't updated their site yet, so I don't know if it made the cut, but I submitted a review of yr new album to a nat'l mag I write for sometimes. Caveat: all of my writing for that mag has been subpar and also shitty. I'm not sure why, maybe I'm just a shitty writer. That can't be it. Oh yeah, it's because I'm stupidly intimidated by everything outside my tiny little universe.
Yeah, that's why I'm spending my long weekend along with comic books and probably frozen french fries and cartoons. And now, I suppose, a thoroughly disturbing self-realization.

what is thanagar¿ is it rising aswell¿

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 31 July 2004 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Thanagar is the war-like, avian-loving planet Hawkgirl comes from. In today's episode, it was revealed that she'd been acting as a spy for the Thanagarians, who have been locked in grim battle with the war-like lizard-y Gomordians. Some dude who was supposedly Hawkgirl's fiance, but wasn't Katar Hol aka HawkMAN, decided that the Earth's coordinates were the perfect place to open a sort of wormhole type thing that would allow Thanagar to sneak past the Gomordian perimeter unnoticed. Trouble is, the Earth would have to be destroyed to make room for it.
Will Hawkgirl side with her home planet and destroy the Earth? Or will her new friends, the Justice League, convince her that any planet that wears hats like that deserves to be conquered by the lizard people from beyond?

Huck, Saturday, 31 July 2004 20:39 (twenty years ago)

And even (by the remotest chance) if the Earth is saved...who will save Hawkgirl's once budding romance with the Green Lantern of Sector 2814?

'ello all, thanks much for your kind words upthread. I'm done with everything and just bunking in with my parents at the beach in Rhode Island for a week, so email's probably the most reliable way of contacting me. Sam, I'll get back to you on email. Did anything exciting happen aroud here in the last 24 hours? Also - I bought roxymuzak a moxie that I'll be mailing on monday. I've got one other bottle, and I'd gladly mail it to the first person who dropped me an email with their address - that is, if they're a moxie virgin.

x j e r e m y i n f l u x (x Jeremy), Saturday, 31 July 2004 23:51 (twenty years ago)

Hiya Jeremy!
I don't know what Moxie is, so, like, good luck with everything. Is Rhode Island really an island, or is it like a peninsula? Or am I thinking of Rhodesia? Or possibly Florida?
Anyway, this one's for Beefish Kingswax:
http://www.vegalleries.com/filmationopc/10sup2.jpg

it's brilliant, it has the whole homoeroticism and christ-emulation going on at the same time. Those filmation bastards were tricky.

huck, Sunday, 1 August 2004 00:13 (twenty years ago)

Oh, like you never see homoeroticism and Christ-emulation together at the same time.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 1 August 2004 03:13 (twenty years ago)

Leave Willem Dafoe out of this!
(i haven't seen LTOC, or TPOTC, so really, whaddo I know...well, I did go to Catholic school for 8 years...)

I just got back from R-town's only comedy club. It's only a comedy club on Saturdays, and I was there on a reconnaissance mission. Holy shit, tough crowd. I think that being funny is secondary to handling boisterous drunks in this sort of place.
But apparantly they have good nachos. I didn't have any, but I might next time.
It costs $9 to get in! I was expecting more like $3. I mean, for $9, I could see a movie. If there were any movie theatres left within the city itself.
I think I would much prefer the two-drink-minimum, cuz then, at least, you get something for your money.
Not to say that the two comics weren't good. The opener, a rare prairie female comedian, had some really good stuff. The headliner had about 25 minutes of really good material. His set was about an hour.
But I only have about 12-13 minutes of material. So, y'know, glass houses...but I think...I don't know...there seemed to be a lot of filler, like not some "this will make you laugh" as "you'll agree with this."
And what the fuck, the dude (who was maybe 35 at the oldest, though his publicity photo in the lobby looked like it was shot during the Reagan administration) did like 10 minutes on "kids today with their baggy pants."
Sadly, it went over well.
I'm in the wrong town. But am I just being naively snobbish?
I'm listening to Aretha Franklin again, and I want to be a do-right-all-night-man like never before. And I'm eating cheapo pizza-by-the-slice.
But now I'm probably gonna watch North by Northwest, so that'll be good.
I got done 3 of the 6 things I wanted to do today, I got a haircut, I went to the comedy club, and, uh, there was something else...shit. What else did I do today? Oh yeah, I watched the entire 3-part Justice League series finale. I liked anticipating it better than I liked watching it.
But I've still got two days left on my weekend, so getting rid of all the lousy books, catching up on some work, and writing more comedy can still happen.
Holla!

Huck, Sunday, 1 August 2004 04:42 (twenty years ago)

Aretha is now making me wish I was going somewhere and that I had someone to call the moment I get there.

Ooh, now Otis Redding's Dock of the Bay album is on. What's next?

US-2 Highlights:
Seattle
Grand Coulee Dam
Glacier National Park
The Geographical Center of North America
North Dakota's Roadside Giants
Michigan's Upper Peninsula
The Big Nickel
Birthplace of the Dionne Quintuplets
Montreal
Ottawa
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory
Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park

If you have to decide between the Big Nickel and the B&J Ice Cream Factory...just hold your own change really close to your face while you're chowing down on Cherry Garcia.
Also, Geographical Centre of North American doesn't have waterslides.

The best thing to do would be to stay away from her, but we've also slowly become friends, and I like her a lot as a friend, so I wouldn't just want to give that up. This has certainly happened to me before, an unhealthy crush mixing with a good friendship, but it's never nice and it only goes away with time. Why couldn't humans be like robots, so I could just push a button that says "delete: crush"?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 1 August 2004 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't that the basic premise of Me, Myself & Irene?

Huck, Sunday, 1 August 2004 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I was thinking more of an old Robotman comic strip, where Robotman asks the kid (can't recall his name): "How do you humans know when you're in love?", and the kid has some difficulties explaining it, he says that you're heart starts thumping and you get dizzy and you feel funny inside and so on. Robotman then says: "Oh. It's much easier for us robots. A print comes out of our navel that says: 'You're in love'.".

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 1 August 2004 22:47 (twenty years ago)

You had to read Robotman in Finland?!

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 1 August 2004 22:50 (twenty years ago)

What do you mean, "had to"? I think the old Robotman strips from the eighties were very good, from what I've seen the new strips are *totally* different. In the old strips Robotman lived with an Earth family, it was kinda like Alf-meets-Calvin & Hobbes.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 1 August 2004 23:46 (twenty years ago)

Let me lick you up and down
Til you say stop
Let me play with your body baby
Make you real hot
Let me do all the things you want me to do
Cuz tonight baby I wanna get freaky with you

Baby don't you understand
I wanna be your nasty man
I wanna make your body scream
And you will know just what I
(you know what I mean)
24 carat gold
To warm the nights when you get cold
I wanna lick you up and down
And then I wanna lay you down
C'mon silk

Let me lick you up and down
Til you say stop
Let me play with your body baby
Make you real hot
Let me do all the things you want me to do
Cuz tonight baby I wanna get freaky with you

I love the taste of whipcream
Spread it on don't be mean
(baby don't be mean)
You know I can't resist you girl
I'll fly you all around the world
(all around the world, oh baby)
I wanna make your body drip
C'mon let me take a sip
(c'mon, c'mon, c'mon)
Take off what you cherish most
(c'mon,c'mon, come on, come on baby)
Cuz when I brag I like to brag and boast

Let me lick you up and down
Til you say stop
Let me play with your body baby
Make you real hot
Let me do all the things you want me to do
Cuz tonight baby I wanna get freaky with you

You, you, you, you
Oh you
You, you, you, you
Let me freak you
You, you, you, you
All of you
I want it, I want it
You, you, you, you
Oh you
You, you, you, you
Let me do you
Cuz tonight baby, I wanna get freaky with you

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 2 August 2004 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times side
Staying alive was no jive
At second hands, moms bounced on old men
So then we moved to Shaolin land
A young youth, yo rockin the gold tooth, 'Lo goose
Only way, I begin to gee off was drug loot
And let's start it like this son, rollin with this one
And that one, pullin out gats for fun
But it was just a dream for the teen, who was a fiend
Started smokin woolies at sixteen
And running up in gates, and doing hits for high stakes
Making my way on fire escapes
No question I would speed, for cracks and weed
The combination made my eyes bleed
No question I would flow off, and try to get the dough all
Sticking up white boys in ball courts
My life got no better, same damn 'Lo sweater
Times is ruff and tuff like leather
Figured out I went the wrong route
So I got with a sick ass click and went all out
Catchin keys from across seas
Rollin in MPV's, every week we made forty G's
Yo n###a respect mine, or anger the tech nine
Ch-chick-POW! Move from the gate now

Cash, Rules, Everything, Around, Me
C.R.E.A.M.
Get the money
Dollar, dollar bill y'all

It's been twenty-two long hard years of still strugglin
Survival got me buggin, but I'm alive on arrival
I peep at the shape of the streets
And stay awake to the ways of the world cause shit is deep
A man with a dream with plans to make C.R.E.A.M.
Which failed; I went to jail at the age of 15
A young buck sellin drugs and such who never had much
Trying to get a clutch at what I could not... could not...
The court played me short, now I face incarceration
Pacin -- going up state's my destination
Handcuffed in back of a bus, forty of us
Life as a shorty shouldn't be so ruff
But as the world turns I learned life is hell
Living in the world no different from a cell
Everyday I escape from Jakes givin chase, sellin base
Smokin bones in the staircase
Though I don't know why I chose to smoke sess
I guess that's the time when I'm not depressed
But I'm still depressed, and I ask what's it worth?
Ready to give up so I seek the Old Earth
Who explained working hard may help you maintain
to learn to overcome the heartaches and pain
We got stickup kids, corrupt cops, and crack rocks
and stray shots, all on the block that stays hot
Leave it up to me while I be living proof
To kick the truth to the young black youth
But shorty's running wild smokin sess drinkin beer
And ain't trying to hear what I'm kickin in his ear
Neglected, but now, but yo, it gots to be accepted
That what? That life is hectic

N####s gots to do what they gotta do, to get a bill
YaknowhatI'msayin?
Cuz we can't just get by no more
Word up, we gotta get over, straight up and down

Cash Rules Everything Around Me
C.R.E.A.M.
get the money
Dolla dolla bill y'aauhhhaaaauhhhhahhhauhhhhll, YEAH

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 2 August 2004 13:48 (twenty years ago)

so far, after waking up an hour late and finding out that the phones at work weren't working to call and tell them this, i've had such a delightful morning.

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Monday, 2 August 2004 15:23 (twenty years ago)

I put my elbow in bird crap this morning.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Monday, 2 August 2004 15:39 (twenty years ago)

So help me god, if a person ever put that Silk song on and expected to get lucky with me, I'd heave.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 2 August 2004 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Greetings from the inner sanctum of the Huck-Cave.
I slept in, and then I've been cleaning my apt, er, cave. Just now, I took 3 large grocery bags full of books and dropped them on the steps of the neighbourhood community centre. Hee hee hee.

Huck, Monday, 2 August 2004 17:36 (twenty years ago)

So, when I went to the comedy club the other night, I stopped for a drink first at my local Irishy pub, just to see if there was anyone there I might be able to cajole into coming with me. I ran into a group of people I knew in high school. They were all coming from a wedding, just making a stopover before the reception.
They said it was their 3rd wedding in the last two weeks.
I have never been to a wedding of a contemporary.
This has been bothering me.
Is it because, a) everyone I know is okay with sin? b) everyone I know is too much of a loser for girls to talk to? c) nobody likes me enough to invite me to their wedding? d) the invitations all get lost in the mail, since I change addresses so often in a futile attempt at convincing myself that my life is not as stagnant as it actually is?

Question of the day: Would YOU want ME at your wedding?

Huck, Monday, 2 August 2004 17:49 (twenty years ago)

I haven't been to a wedding either, not since I was kid. In my case I think it's because most of my friends are: a) non-religious, b) urban, and c) still quite young.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 2 August 2004 20:31 (twenty years ago)

I haven't been to one in years either, but have one coming soon. I think it's the nature of my friends really.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 2 August 2004 20:52 (twenty years ago)

Do the moderators know that lots of regulars can't get into ILE? They're being poxy-fueled. Hello? Anyone?

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 2 August 2004 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Fear not! We DO know but apparently the only person who can do anything about it is Andrew. It's still pretty early over in Melbourne, though, so we might have to wait a few more hours.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 August 2004 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Thank you, kind Ned.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 2 August 2004 20:59 (twenty years ago)

In the meantime, tell people to go directly to http://ilx.p3r.net

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 August 2004 21:06 (twenty years ago)

after being late to work, then spending four hours in a customer service thing, i find out that i got two more emails wondering about my posted resume.

God bless craigslist. only two more days till my trip!

Kingfish von Bandersnatch (Kingfish), Monday, 2 August 2004 21:15 (twenty years ago)

So I just went to the grocery store across the street from the neighbourhood centre (which is closed, as today is a civic holiday) and all the books I left there are gone. I didn't check the nearby dumpsters, but I was tempted to.
So that's a relief.

Huck, Monday, 2 August 2004 22:08 (twenty years ago)

Hey all, I loaded my car into transport today. Now I'm without wheels, computer, or more than three changes of clothes. I feel like a drifter.

x j e r e m y i n f l u x (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 03:00 (twenty years ago)

You wouldn't happen to have a hook for a hand, would you?

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 03:47 (twenty years ago)

it's nearly 2 a.m. and I can't sleep. Have been listening to the new Fall album, and I'm not sure if it's just that I'm tired or is it really fucking weird and antagonistic, even for a Fall record?
I think I love it.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 06:53 (twenty years ago)

Dude, you can totally come to my wedding! :-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 07:16 (twenty years ago)

xpost!

I was just gonna post:
Shouldn't PinXor and other U.K.liens be awake yet?
Now I say to you, good morning, and good night to me.

(i will be at your wedding--it's not soon is it?)

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 07:19 (twenty years ago)

Good nigh, Huck!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 07:20 (twenty years ago)

Good night, Tuomas!

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 07:21 (twenty years ago)

Nah you're cool man he hasn't even proposed yet (grrrrr) but u gotta be there you just gotta!! Sweet dreams HuXor! *mwah*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 07:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, do you have to go to bed yet?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 07:26 (twenty years ago)

I am sitting in my old place surrounded by boxes, waiting for the movers to arrive! some neighbor has an unsecured wireless connection though, so I can still get on the internet! I am going to the new place this evening and the movers will arrive there tomorrow morning. I don't know what I'm going to do for internet then though, because our building will have free broadband for everyone but not for another MONTH! I guess I'll get one of those AOL discs or something.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Hey teeny! I was thinking about you this morning - that was a very moving blog entry :) I wouldn't get an AOL disc, though - it will slowly but surely eat your computer from the inside.

How are you feeling? Are you sad or excited, or both? Blog more!!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 11:31 (twenty years ago)

I am very excited!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 11:35 (twenty years ago)

Hey guys, just to say I am still out here and still (occasionally) reading. Hope you're all well! Much moving and shaking going on, i see... good luck with all of it :)

I am sitting here in a brief lull at work, listening to FIP radio and letting it gradually calm me down.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:07 (twenty years ago)

I"m back! Only five hours later!
I'm back on my usual beat this week, which'll be like a holiday, since the last three weeks, I've been doing three people's jobs. Now, just one. (And I'm not going to do it very well.)

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:34 (twenty years ago)

I got locked out of ILX for most of yesterday because I couldn't remember the new URL. :(
Huck, I really like the new Fall album. IT ROCKS.
I haven't been to any weddings for any of my contemporaries. Actually, I've never been to a wedding.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:41 (twenty years ago)

I remember one time, I was watching TV with a then-girlfriend, and there was a report on weddings, and they talked about how the average wedding runs $20K and I was all, "that's total bullshit" and that, I can see in retrospect, was when the relationship turned.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:46 (twenty years ago)

I've been to about 6 weddings in two years including my own. And i've been in 4 of them.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:22 (twenty years ago)

$20k is about what my wedding cost. Luckily we only had to pay about $5k of it. My best friends wedding was around $100k. Thats because his wife is a cunt.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:24 (twenty years ago)

I just can't imagine loving anybody.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:31 (twenty years ago)

100k¡¡¡ i can't imagine loving anybody that much¡

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Er, I meant to put "that much" in my post, truly I did.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago)

I have had the worst day at work. Have spent pretty much all day trying not to cry. I don't seem to be able to do anything right today, which isn't very helpful when your boss is waiting for & pouncing on every single piece of work I have done today. He checks it, it's wrong, so he corrects it, but doesn't bother going into detail about what I'd done wrong so that I can correct it for next time. The condescending tone & shaking of the head is always helpful aswell if you've made a mistake or 20!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Work is dumb.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

One of my favourite jokes from Bonnie McFarlane, the hot Canadian babe who was the first kicked off Reality TV's Last Comic Standing:

"I'm against crying at work. I'm not going to do it anymore. It's such a girl cliché, crying because you're drunk."

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:42 (twenty years ago)

J is off work today, i think he is just completely exhausted & run down, hence he is ill. I've had enough of work, of ilx, of buying a stupid fucking house, of renting an overpriced, run down, shit house, stupid car breaking at every given opportunity, no fucking money to pay for any of this shit.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Aw Pink, it WILL get better, I promise. Soon you'll be looking back from a nice cosy nest with a cat on each knee, wondering when you were ever pissed off. Have a nice big drink and a hug when you get home, and try to forget the shit stuff.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Thanx Arch!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Big smile for PinXor!

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:54 (twenty years ago)

hugs and pints for pink indeed!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Cheers dudes. Sorry to be going off here, I think i'm just to bogged down with stress at the moment to function properly. Thanks to sarah, for the nice email she sent me the other day. I'll try to reply tomorrow.
Teeny, I read your latest entry for your blog & more tears flowed! Good luck with your move & I hope you & your boy will be very happy in your new home.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:58 (twenty years ago)

So I'm doing article research for work, and I have to read one about golf. I CAN'T STOP GIGGLING. Read the below and you'll see why.

After a succession of lovely holes along the rear stone walls of the property, the only other funky hole was the short but difficult eighth, a dogleg right which featured a grossly oversized sand bunker that lay rutted and hard as a rock from recent downpours, a true maintenance nightmare.

hahahahahhahaha!!!! (Yes, I'm 15.) hahahahhhaa!!!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Awesome.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:25 (twenty years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:28 (twenty years ago)

In Espoo, which is a city right next to Helsinki populated by the bourgeoise, they have a golf high school! It's a high school where you can take golf courses as a part of your curriculum. Having a working class background myself, I've always found this hilarious.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Work is really slow for everyone in my office right now. Basically, everything is on MY desk, but I've been too spaced out all day to be productive. So while everyone else is feeling guilty trying to find something to work on, I'm simply not doing a damn thing. It's great.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:21 (twenty years ago)

HI Sarah!

I have to go to the bathroom (#1) really bad, but I'm waiting for a very important phone call.
ANy tips?

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 19:29 (twenty years ago)

Hi. My DSL was turned off, and I'm at an internet cafe near my home. (Jeremy, if you get this, you should call me when you reach town.) I couldn't get to ILX yesterday and didn't realize it was the URL thingy. Oh well.

My birthday was nice, except for spending a few hours yelling at the phone company, and then I went and got a haircut and went to a new place and the woman was very nice but didn't quite speak English and cut way more than I wanted. It looks a bit stupid now but it should grow out nicely.

Peasant's Quest rocks my world.

We went to Ethiopian food and it was very good. I like having friends. A dumb thing to say but it's true. Then we came home and played Puerto Rico, which was also fun. I want to play it again.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I've spent literally almost the entire work day baiting noise dudes on ILX. I managed to get myself locked out of the NOISE DUDES board, so that's one thing accomplished.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 20:56 (twenty years ago)

The noninvisible kind are especially good (not to be opaquist).

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Chris, i don't have your phone number.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:09 (twenty years ago)

I just gave it to Martin M.

There's nothing to do in Portland, just Powell's and enjoying our pleasant lifestyle. Hopefully the heat wave will stay calm while you're out here.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:12 (twenty years ago)

i have an interview on monday afternoon, at least.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:16 (twenty years ago)

From a British perspective, the main thing to do when in Portland must be to get confused as to which part of the country you're in. Doesn't sound that much fun, I'm afraid.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:17 (twenty years ago)

sounds terribly British, tho. There's that.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh, it's not that bad. If the sun sets over the Rockies, you're in Maine. If it rises over the Rockies, you're in Oregon.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:22 (twenty years ago)

I hope Pink is feeling better!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Hey all, I've been packing boxes and couldn't remember the new URL today, so haven't been around. It's kind of depressing. I packed up my apartment, moved to my dad's house. Packed up the car and shipped it to LA, packed up the rest of my stuff and moved it to my mom's house, and now I'm packing it again to hed to CA. I've got lots of crap, and it's disappointing to see how I've wasted my money during the last decade (3 seperate Best of the 70s compilations, 2 dead aloe plants in a terrarium, 2 shitty laptop speaker sets, an encyclopaedia of mushrooms, just plain crap...) What's been on around here today?

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 02:39 (twenty years ago)

okay, i found my shoes. they were underneath boxes in the basement.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 02:58 (twenty years ago)

Happy Birthday, Chris!

Bon voyage, people on the move!

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 04:54 (twenty years ago)

Oh, yeah. THis sounds very urban legendish, but it's absolute truth, maybe tomorrow, when I find my access codes, I'll look it up on the Canadian Lexis-Nexis thing that I now have access to, being super-awesome-underappreciated-employee-guy-who-tonight-discovered-a-hundred-dollars-more-in-my-bank-account-than-I-thought-was-there-that's-unrelated-but-not-unrelated-enough-to-not-be-hyphenated-okay? that I am.
This, um, I think they were Scandinavian, maybe Finnish even (Finland is quickly becoming my Saskatchewan), tourists accidentally landed in Sydney, Nova Scotia. They meant to go to Sydney, Australia!
Really happened, no shit.
Maybe they were German?

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 04:59 (twenty years ago)

Am I the young'un of TITTWIS at 25?

I'm actually still 24, though that will change a frighteningly near-futurish four months from now. As Tuomas helpfully remembered, yes, I too am a 1979 baby.

Cool that a great many of us are in a similar age bracket.

*ahem* HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO YOU, DEAR CASUISTRY!

Jeremy C, if you're still reading this, good luck with your transitioning life. Also good luck to you, teeny and Kingfish Jeremy, and good luck to you, Nick, on your job hunt.

Hm. Seems as though I missed the whole wedding discussion thing. (I was one of those people who got "poxy fuled", I think.) I think I've gone to TOO MANY weddings lately -- and baby showers, and bridal showers. I'm sick of going to a baby shower for someone I feel isn't old enough to be a mother. Maybe it's because of my immediate family's track record, but I grew up believing that one had to be at the very least thirty years old in order to be old enough to be a mother. Actually, I'll be going to a baby shower in a couple of weeks where the mother-to-be is actually older than 25 (!) I'm actually looking forward to it.

Really nice to hear that a lot of people here have been experiencing drama in their lives, drama that doesn't seem to be of the particularly negative sort (though Pink, I hope you're having a better time of things at present). I myself have had my own good times and bad, and one of the worst happened when I was getting a longtime friend of mine whom I'd lost contact with for almost three years caught up with what had happened in my life. And I got to That Point, and bringing up That Point brought up the feelings associated with That Point, and -- ugh. No way. Never again.

Okay, wrapping up this baby right now.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 06:42 (twenty years ago)

Hey guys, sorry for sounding off yesterday, just getting buried under a bit too much stress at present. hugs to all of those with kind words, it is much appreciated at the moment.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 07:51 (twenty years ago)

And I can't believe i missed Chris' birthday, hope you had a real good one dude!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 07:56 (twenty years ago)

Not all of us are in that age bracket, of course. Some of us aren't even remotely near it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 08:35 (twenty years ago)

Why can't Johnny putt?

i just spent a good 5 minutes giggling at that. thanks, huck!

pink, sorry to hear about your crap day, are you doing better today? looks like the weather will be lovely this weekend, so hopefully you can have some nice time off.

kingfish-- portland, right? i was there for less than 24 hours, but loved loved loved it. you can see the smallest municipal park in the country, the international rose test site (with beautiful koi gardens next door) and somewhere south of the city was the second-tallest waterfall in the country, or something equally exciting. plus, if you're driving, i'd suggest a trip to mt. st helens-- i expected it to just be ok, but i was really impressed and left nearly in tears. it was weird. have a great time! are you going anywhere else?

i'm so sad that i can't do a roadtrip this year. i'm craving it, especially since my lovely baby car is out of storage thanks to a lovely surprise from my parents. was thinking about doing a long drive into the canadian wilderness, but i can't imagine it happening...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 10:47 (twenty years ago)

I need a vacation...bad. I haven't been on vacation since last September and I'm not due for one until this September. This is killing me. I've got plenty to do on the weekends up until then, but its not the same. Cripes. I just need a week to slack off.

I had a poker tournament at my house this past weekend with my friends, I didn't win. I broke even. Big winner took home $700. Mostly because around 1am, I couldn't even speak. I have to learn to curb the booze when I'm playing it severely limits my play. Plus the damn flops kept coming up shit all night. Although I did soak my friend for around $150 in chips due to him being completely stupid.

I need a vacation.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:07 (twenty years ago)

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:01 (twenty years ago)

Ooh good luck KF!!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Chris V., it sounds like you're only good at poker on the computer? Just like me and social situations!

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:29 (twenty years ago)

seems to be that way lately. i didn't lose any money though, i played with my same $100 all night.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:31 (twenty years ago)

So yesterday when I got home, I walked down the hall, past the bathroom, into the kitchen, because I saw there was a message on the answering machine. It was our landlord, asking us to give him a call. So he said that the people below us had had a small leak in their bathroom and that someone might need to get into our apartment to check out the pipes. So I was like, fine, you can come pick up the keys, we'll lock up the cats, etc. So after I get off the phone, I figure I should go check out OUR bathroom and make sure there wasn't a leak in ours too. I walk in, and literally half of the bathroom ceiling is lying in pieces on the bathroom floor. The wood is still up there, but the plaster, the paint, and a hell of a lot of mold was scattered around in large chunks. Apparently, this leak is above us and has been dripping between the walls for quite a while now. I guess it's a good thing we weren't home when it came down. So I did some minor cleaning up so we can get to the toilet and take showers or whatever, though it reeks of fungus in there now. I have no idea how long it will take them to fix it, but I doubt everything will be back to normal when I get home tonight.
This, combined with the fact that I yelled at a bike messenger and that I did literally nothing at work all day, made yesterday kind of a weird day.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, that's awful. Get on to the landlors every day until it is fixed! I hope the kitties were alright!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:35 (twenty years ago)

Yikes!

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:36 (twenty years ago)

Indeed!! Glad u 2 weren't home!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:37 (twenty years ago)

I don't care if the sun don't shine
But it better or people will wonder
And I couldn't care less if it never stopped rainin'
Cept the kids are afraid of the thunder

Chorus:
Say sour grapes
You can laugh and stare
Say sour grapes
But I don't care

I couldn't care less if I didn't have a friend
Cept people would say I was crazy
And I wouldn't work 'cause I don't need money
But the same folks would say I was lazy

(Repeat chorus)

I couldn't care less if she never come back
I was gonna leave her anyway
And all the good times that we shared
Don't mean a thing to day

(Repeat chorus)

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:43 (twenty years ago)

The cats didn't give a shit. They looked bored. I'm surprised they didn't scarf down a bunch of mold and then throw it up again. They showed remarkable restraint.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:50 (twenty years ago)

i always preferred the Descendents' "Sour Grapes" version...

"Youuuuuuu give
Such a bad TAAAASTE
SOUR GRAPES!

Youuuuuuu give
Such a bad TAAAASTE..."

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:58 (twenty years ago)

alright! i got another interview with some staffing company in portland on tuesday!

this trip might actually be productive after all!

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago)

I have a job interview on Monday as well.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 17:17 (twenty years ago)

Two of the people who have had this job that I'm applying for also had the job I just left. So I feel like I have a chance.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 17:17 (twenty years ago)

You're both hired!

The Boss, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm on fire!

The Boss (Chris Piuma), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 17:21 (twenty years ago)

So yeah... hi.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 17:23 (twenty years ago)

The Other Other Boss, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Hulloa. (I need lunch. I will get some soon.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Hi howdy.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:09 (twenty years ago)

ha HA! i now have FIVE interviews with either staffing companies or actual mortgage folks. my company can eat a fuckin' dick.

it ain't engineering, but it's something.

*note: i'm hoping this falls under the heading of "proud boasting" and not "ironic crowing" ohpleaseohpleaseohplease...

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago)

My fingers are crossed.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Mortgage?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:19 (twenty years ago)

yup, mortgage stuff. finance types don't tend to be the kinda person i gravitage towards, but fuck it; if it gets me out there, pays the bills so tthat I can write rockcrit shit at night, and lets me survive, i'll take it.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:40 (twenty years ago)

Hey, luna.
Hey, pink.
Hey, huck and everyone else (sorry if you were thrown into the everyone else category, but I'm feeling lazy right now).

So I've been busying myself with classmates.com. Have you guys tried it? I've found out a hell of a lot more in the past couple of days browsing it than I have googling old friends' names for the past few years. It doesn't help that quite a few of my old friends had really common names (like SARAH JOHNSON, ha ha).

I fear the mold in the bathroom. And for the record, Lucy did throw SOMETHING up.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:03 (twenty years ago)

I just talked to landlord and apparently the problem was a leaky toilet on the floor above ours (fortunately, it is apparently leaking only water). They cleaned up our bathroom supposedly, but there's a good chance they won't be able to get a new ceiling in until beginning of next week. That bathroom better be pretty fucking tidy when I get home, or I will be forced to make some angry phone calls.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:05 (twenty years ago)

I've used classmates.com a couple of times. Nearly everyone seems to have gone a very basic marriage/kids/etc. route.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:07 (twenty years ago)

the fact of life.

and when you see them again later, they are all balder/fatter.

unless you went to school with a guy named Baldur, so that you'd run into a balder Baldur, and he'd smack you for making such a silly pun.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm about the same weight, and a little balder. Balder even than when Chris P. saw me.

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Who's named BALDUR??! ha ha, Kingfish.

Basically, I've found that the kids I went to school with in the more rural areas are married with their own kids and politically conservative. The ones who went to the bigger city/ magnet type schools tend to not be married, live far from where we went to school, and have some really flashy job.

And then there's me. I guess I had the combo deal, so I live far away from any of my schools and I have a silly job.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:14 (twenty years ago)

See, I'm all proud of myself because I've been losing weight recently, but the reality is that I gained a bunch of weight after college and am just now losing it. Anyone who hasn't seen me since high school wouldn't be that impressed, the bastards.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Foo on them, Sarah, they are probably all evil and scabby by now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:16 (twenty years ago)

I checked the Finnish equivalent of classmates.com, most of my old high school mates there had written about where they're living now, what they're studying or where are they working, whether they're engaged or married, the usual stuff. But one guy had only this to say:

"I ride my motorcycle and wank every day."

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Is "wank" Finnish for "Egads!"?

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Beware classmates.com if you don't like getting a lot of bullshit email trying to get you to subscribe to their other "features."

Also, fuck them for not hiring me earlier this year.

It's my birthday, so I'm calling out classmates.com. Fuck you, classmates! It's my birthday!

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Was this Baldur a Norse god at all? Was he scared of mistletoe?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I went to my 10 year high school reunion a couple years ago. Very few surprises, and a lot more fat. But hey, I'm not completely unguilty there myself...

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I guess my 10 year h.s. reunion will be next year. Fuck them, I'm not going. Just like grad.

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Who's named BALDUR??! ha ha, Kingfish.

yup, Baldur was a character in Norse mythology.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:31 (twenty years ago)

alright, i'm off to the airport. talk to y'all later. Martinm, keep your phone on later, if you would.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Was that a Top Ten reference, Martin?

Boner Voyage, Kingfish!

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:37 (twenty years ago)

No, it's a Norse mythology reference - which is where that bit in Top Ten came from. It's been used in Thor as well, which is where I know it from.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Which Martin you asking, Huck? (xpost nevermind figured it out)

Ha ha, Kingfish is fucked. I don't feel like driving to the airport tonight...

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Obv. I knew that it was real Norse mythology...but, ah, yes, well, as long as your knowledge comes from some sort of comic book, well, that's all right with me!

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, Martin M.
I'm bad like that. I often use Chris for Chris P. even though Velveteen is a Chris too. I shall strive in the future to properly add an initial to all my future addressees.

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, isn't it 'living well is the best revenge'? Or even 'marrying your former best friend's boyfriend right before he strikes it rich and so you have more money than god and can pay people to crush the bitch who humiliated you is the best revenge'?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 20:53 (twenty years ago)

All of my knowledge comes from comic books!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Hey, don't worry about it Huck... Usually I can follow the context clues. Every once in a while I get confused is all.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 21:10 (twenty years ago)

I actually don't like being called "Chris P.", but I'm not mortally offended by it. You can call me some abbreviated form of "Casuistry" if you want. "Cas" was popular on one forum, but "Casu" seems more popular here.

I'm, like, all hungry and stuff.

If Kingflesh is in Portland on Saturday night then he can see my "other" band play! Last minute shows rock!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 5 August 2004 01:06 (twenty years ago)

I spent the whole day on the beach, at least half of it reading SK's Dark Tower I (err....), and the other half trying to secure my Los Angeles apt. My vacation's incredibly tiring.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 5 August 2004 01:33 (twenty years ago)

Luna - yes, yes it is!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 August 2004 07:14 (twenty years ago)

To my favourite ILXors, we just exchanged contracts on our house, woo!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:29 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:21 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations hon!!!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:27 (twenty years ago)

Cheers my darlings!! Please everyone tell me their news!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:31 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I've just agreed to be a subject in a photographic exhibition at work, showing staff members doing their outside hobby/passion type thing. Must be mad.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Congrats PinXor!

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:46 (twenty years ago)

Cheers Chris. Archel that sounds great!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:49 (twenty years ago)

Archel you must be mad :)

I'm having a slightly stressy day - at the moment it's the fear of being found out (not that there's anything specific to find out) at work rather than anything concrete. It's motivation-sapping, as is the fact that both my bosses have just gone into a meeting.

I am really looking forward to the weekend, though. Lots of fun things will be happening.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:53 (twenty years ago)

Aw. Why is them having a meeting bad Mark?

So, they now want me to 'have a think about the concept' I want for the shot. Arrgh! So, what do you guys think? Scribbling in a garrett? Reclining on a chaise-longue sucking thoughtfully on a quill pen? From above? Straight on? Black polo neck? Or floaty artistic dress?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:09 (twenty years ago)

Hard core porn.

Archel, it's not bad that they were in a meeting, it's bad that when they are in a meeting I stop doing any work!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:31 (twenty years ago)

Ah! Well, this is normal. It would be nice if we all had jobs where we were motivated all the time, but most of us don't :(

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Do any of us? I want to discover the gene that makes us hard-working, then implant it into my head in a scene-from-bad-B-movie-where-mad-scientist-does-something-REALLY-stupid moment.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:45 (twenty years ago)

Ha. Well, I'm at my most motivated when I'm actually making a tangible difference to people's lives. I don't know if everyone else has the same motivators as me though. There are probably NO jobs which keep you at a constant pitch of enthusiasm, are there?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:51 (twenty years ago)

Ecstasy quality control?

I'm at my most motivated when I'm given something complex and responsible to do. As long as I understand how to do it, I'm fine. If I'm confused, then I might as well go home.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm like Mark - the less complex and responsible a task is, the less motivated I feel.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:25 (twenty years ago)

But this applies to work only, school is quite different. I'm always having trouble returning my papers in time, even though they usually *are* quite complex.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:26 (twenty years ago)

i think i have the same problem with motivation-- most of my job is very routine and doesn't require a lot of thought. which doesn't make me feel very motivated. which means i don't finish stuff in time, and then have a few minutes of excited panic about getting things done. kinda sad.

congrats on the house, pink! you going to have everyone over for a big housewarming party? i've got my liz-lovely railcard now, so can come over for cheap!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:34 (twenty years ago)

ooh definitely! Housewarmings r us! i will keep you posted.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Day got off to a rocky start, but I feel better now after listening to the SUPER AWESOME CORNY INDIE FUK MIX I made. Here's the tracklisting:
The Zombies "Care of Cell 44"
Liars "There's Always Room on the Broom"
McLusky "To Hell With Good Intentions"
Big Star "Thirteen"
The Monkees "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone"
Boyracer "He Gets Me So Hard"
Spoon "No You're Not"
Deerhoof "This Magnificent Bird Will Rise"
(Smog) "Teenage Spaceship"
The Fall "Hip Priest"
Sonic Youth "Shadow of a Doubt"
Screamin' Jay Hawkins "I Put a Spell on You"
Roxy Music "In Every Dream Home, A Heartache"
Hot Snakes "Our Work Fills the Pews"
The Buzzcocks "Orgasm Addict"
Chavez "Break Up Your Band"
Tom Waits "Anywhere I Lay My Head"
Brian Eno "Dead Finks Don't Talk"
Pere Ubu "Caligari's Mirror"
Silkworm "Couldn't You Wait? (acoustic)"
Lightning Bolt "On Fire"
Television Personalities "The Glittering Prizes"
The Pee Chees "Pepper"

The song order is all out of wack, I just let iTunes put it in random order. Really, the Tom Waits song should go at the end, it's the perfect mix-ending song. But it's still an AWESOME MIX.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:57 (twenty years ago)

PinXor -- that's amazing news!!!!! Cheers to you :)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 5 August 2004 13:10 (twenty years ago)

St. Nick, you would like my radio show (which you missed last night).

Anyway, isn't it 'living well is the best revenge'? Or even 'marrying your former best friend's boyfriend right before he strikes it rich and so you have
more money than god and can pay people to crush the bitch who humiliated you is the best revenge'?

Insulin, actually, is the best revenge. No wait.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 13:27 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Je4nne.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 August 2004 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, I was reading that mix list above and thinking, WOW! THAT PERSON HAS SUCH GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC! Then I saw it was Nick. :-D

I need to listen to some music now. This disco on the LITE station is getting on my nerves today.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Yay Pink! Congratulations, darlin - hope it all goes wonderfully!

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:12 (twenty years ago)

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:26 (twenty years ago)

My fuckface co-worker, the one I hate (obv), is dispensing touchy-feely relationship advice over the phone and has been for the last half hour and I want to stab myself in the face.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Stab said co-worker instead. You'll both feel better.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:40 (twenty years ago)

"Maybe you just need to tell him that you've seen a different kind of man that you're attracted to. You don't need to be always attracted to the same kind of man. Sometimes it's a different kind of man."
SHUT UP.
or at least pipe down.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:07 (twenty years ago)

The worst part is that she'll eventually hang up and then announce to the whole office, "I just got off the phone with my friend, and I was telling her..."

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Throw your stapler at her.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Luna's right. Stab.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:16 (twenty years ago)

See? Jeanne knows.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, letter-opener or Paper-Mate?

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Bonus! I'm going to be working in tandem with her covering some shitty thing I don't want to go to in the first place next weekend.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:23 (twenty years ago)

Scissors.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Scissors, yes, more holes, less stabby-motions.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Stabby motions can be fun. Uh... nevermind.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Is it required by law that you make the Psycho "wree! wree! wree!" noise as you stab?

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Yes.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:32 (twenty years ago)

Hooray!

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago)

No, it's not actually, but the court will view your case more favorably if you do.

God this Internet cafe plays lame music. Music to go flaccid to.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago)

This just in:

Stores of Canadian sperm in sperm banks across the country are drying up, prompting hopeful parents to soon turn entirely to American sperm.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:44 (twenty years ago)

In other news, U.S. sales of Vaseline just skyrocketed.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:46 (twenty years ago)

About 1.5 litres of sperm flow across the American border annually in 0.5 ml frozen samples, Fowler said.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Since Canada's Assisted Human Reproduction Act made it illegal to pay for reproductive tissues, donors are staying away in droves, said Holly Fowler of Xytex, one of the largest North American sperm banks.
”We've had so much trouble we've had to suspend sperm collection operations in Toronto,” she said.
Xytex used to pay $65 per donation and sold the treated sperm for $220 to $360 per half-millilitre. Now it has to rely on donors' altruism — something that isn't working, she said.
There are only about 12 months worth of Canadian sperm left at Xytex. Supplies from“more desirable” men will run out much sooner than that, said Fowler.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Fellow TITTWISers, excuse me, I've got a nation to build.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Go forth and jack off.

We'll be here when you're through and watch out for chafing.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:49 (twenty years ago)

oops (Oops), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Bryant Park! That's the park behind the library, right? I spent some time yesterday trying to remember its name.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:04 (twenty years ago)

I'm on my way, sugar.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:05 (twenty years ago)

I just looked at my friend's band's website to find webzines and the like to send my CD to for reviews. And I was reading through them and realized: Most of these reviews are written by idiots! Why would I want to send them my CD so they could write something dumb about it. ("Ooh, it's got accordion!")

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:07 (twenty years ago)

I'd probably get a more effective response if Dee wrote about it in her blog, anyway. I'm guessing no one reads most of these zines. And if they do, that they wouldn't like my music anyway.

Grumble grumble.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:08 (twenty years ago)

'Scuse me while I pick up my tongue from the floor. xxpost

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:09 (twenty years ago)

I love reading reviews of my music, even bad ones, because I AM A NARCISSIST.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:11 (twenty years ago)

E.g., this band is nothing short of a miracle. Hooray, I'm miraculous!

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:13 (twenty years ago)

Caz, I'll get you some ink.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago)

If I haven't already...any Torontonians inna house?

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Oh holy crap. I am losing my mind. I am totally overdrawn at the bank. Shit shit shit.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Ergh. That is bad.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Sorry.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Sorry to hear about that.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Money can be a shitty thing. Even though, in the end, it's supposed to be sorta irrelevant, having to constantly worry about it can be hell. I should know, I've been living on student aid and student loan and short-time jobs for the last four years, and it looks like there's still another year or two like that ahead of me.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:37 (twenty years ago)

That irrelevant end is, hopefully, a long way off.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:11 (twenty years ago)

i'm in seattle, currently being eaten by Martin's cats. Drove around all day tdaoy, went to Science Center.

tomorrow: Experience Music Project, other random things. my possible interview in seattle apparently isn't happening, and so far, i don't care that much.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 6 August 2004 04:21 (twenty years ago)

Thanks to everyone for their kind words & congratulations. I am finally very excited as the last few things have clicked into place - logistics wise - we get the keys next thursday & then we're all set. yay!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 6 August 2004 07:29 (twenty years ago)

hurrah pink! and happy late birthdays all around, even if you didn't have one. I'm checking in from an internet cafe too, we still don't have phone or internet at our new place in st louis but that's okay because the apartment is BEAUTIFUL.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 6 August 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Everybody's either having a birthday, or moving, or having their bathroom cave-in.

Huck, Friday, 6 August 2004 13:49 (twenty years ago)

How did the move go Teeny? Were there tears on departure??

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 6 August 2004 13:51 (twenty years ago)

i'm in seattle, currently being eaten by Martin's cats

That's a fucken lie. My cats haven't done shit to Jeremy.

They are still waiting for me to give the command.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago)

(martin, if you still have gmail invites, I'd appreciate one)

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:39 (twenty years ago)

I only got one Gmail invite, and I wasted it on a friend. Friends are for losers.

Huck, Friday, 6 August 2004 15:45 (twenty years ago)

(martin, if you still have gmail invites, I'd appreciate one)

I just sent it to your yahoo address... Don't forget, I think yahoo sticks the invitation emails in your spam folder or somethign like that.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh shit, I just remembered the Fields of Salmon's band is playing here tonight! I was supposed to get the word out. Shit shit shit.

Huck, Friday, 6 August 2004 16:46 (twenty years ago)

well, you've told US.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:47 (twenty years ago)

So you'll all be there, right? It's at the place I took CCazz the first night he was here.

Huck, Friday, 6 August 2004 16:49 (twenty years ago)

And I'll tell two people, and they'll tell two people, and...

yeah, we'll all be there.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I was worried I was gonna look like an ass for a minute.

Huck, Friday, 6 August 2004 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Also, borrow a bullhorn.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:31 (twenty years ago)

I am about to leave work on time on a Friday for the first time in at least a year.

Huck, Friday, 6 August 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Have fun.

I rode my mother's 1956 bicycle three miles to the library, wearing my father's 1989 fire-red helmet, and disgustingly ugly pink shorts with my stupid green "I'm a Promise Builder for Jesus" t-shirt. And now there's a cute girl at the circulation desk, and I can't get out because she's blocking the way to the door and I don't want her to laugh at me.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Friday, 6 August 2004 19:05 (twenty years ago)

Pull the fire alarm.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Friday, 6 August 2004 19:06 (twenty years ago)

At the vegetemarian restaurant? I thought they had closed (were closing)?

People who told me at one point they would lend me money are in fact not able to lend me money. Which I understand and all, but "oh well".

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 6 August 2004 20:37 (twenty years ago)

Am updating from kinko's in portland. thanks to martin's good graces and ability to tolerate my complainy idiocy for 3 days, i have survived seattle. am now at Casuistry's tender mercies. this should be fun.

at any rate, i'm already sunburned, am making copies of my resume for my interviews this week, and i bought a used fan from a confused guy on the street selling them. all the comics stores in the pacific northwest LUV to keep their porn comics out in the open. there's more Kevin Taylor than ANYbody could tolerate.

oh yeah, and i'll most likely be moving out here to Portland at the end of this month.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 9 August 2004 01:34 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations and good luck, Kingfish.

*sighs*

I have thoroughly sickened and depressed myself because I tried to ego-Google my little journal thingy and found that the only result that I was able to pull up was... my little journal thingy. That's it. Which I suppose should be good enough, but I feel like I work really hard to try to type out profound things on that journal, not just simple "here's how my day went" entries that wouldn't require a single thing from me other than short term memory ability and a set of working fingers, but I feel like it's all for nought, that I'm only typing in there to just... type. Like I might as well resort to the "here's how my day went" entries because that's all this journal's going to be worth, like I'm just -- no one. Which sounds completely egotistical, sure, and maybe I'll get rolled eyes by the bucketload by this, but I'm kinda tired of being "no one" and instead want to be "someone".

(Okay, part of me's wondering if I should just forget about posting this on this thread and instead posting this on my journal thingy, and then the other part of me's thinking that if I'm going to make this kind of post to ILX that I'm in the right place for it. Hm.)

Nah... it's just a signal/noise thing, and your clarion's lost in a veritable sea of digital shit. Don't let it get you down, chica!

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Monday, 9 August 2004 02:46 (twenty years ago)

*blows balloons*

Welcome to my pity party, folks. I've made shrimp salad and grilled cheese sandwiches and have brought home cheese pizza and fried fish, along with various salads and trays and soft drinks. Help yourself.

*throws a handful of confetti up in the air, just because*

Nah... it's just a signal/noise thing, and your clarion's lost in a veritable sea of digital shit. Don't let it get you down, chica!

That's really, really, really kind of you to say. Thank you.

Dip? *points to veggie tray with french onion dip in center*

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 9 August 2004 02:48 (twenty years ago)

aww, man! I can't have dip. I've lost 25 pounds in the past 4 months, and dip would do me in. But would you care for some of my roasted soy beans? They almost taste like something, and there never seems to be a shortage of them.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Monday, 9 August 2004 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Eh, I'd be game for almost anything food-wise.

(I got very unhealthy foods because, hey, pity party -- darkness = oink oink time, you know?)

*tries roasted soy beans out*

Mmm, they almost taste... like something. Yeah, you're right!

Green bean salad? There's no mayo in it, so it's healthier! (Those little slivers in it are almonds, which are also good for you.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 9 August 2004 02:57 (twenty years ago)

Holy cow, slow weekend.
I've just come to realize that I probably have bad taste in movies, and may indeed have bad taste all around.
Also, I just watched Pscyho in French (Psychose), and remembed that when I eventually stab someone, not only do I have to "wree! wree! wree!" but I also have dress up like a lady. This whole deal just gets sweeter and sweeter.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 05:08 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, Huck, which version of Psycho did you watch? (Please say the original version, with Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh, please say the original version....)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 9 August 2004 05:15 (twenty years ago)

I don't think the French would bother with any other version.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 05:32 (twenty years ago)

Yay! (I was just checking, you know, in case.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 9 August 2004 05:37 (twenty years ago)

Other than the sequels, the GVS shot-for-shot remake is the only other one, no?

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago)

We are now the proud parents of 2 12 week old kittens as of yesterday. One is a really fluffy all black boy called Mungo (he is James' kittie) & my on eis a little black & white girl currently called Midge. I cannot think of a name for her either, help please!! We could have brough them home yesterday, but we really can't take them til Sunday after we've moved in. Aww they are so cwute!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 07:26 (twenty years ago)

Aw, congrats! I once heard of cat called "Gay Peter", but I think the name worked better in Finnish.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 9 August 2004 08:08 (twenty years ago)

That name surely does not work in any language!! My new kitten is a pretty little girl, so I was thinking phoebe possibly. Or molly, although I want that for my future daughter!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, I have to go to a wake tomorrow night for my best friends cousin who was killed saturday in a motorcycle crash. Apparently he was going 90mph and hit a car head on. I guess the accident scene was beyond gruesome. I hope to god its a closed casket.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 11:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh god how horrible. Hope you get through that ok Chris.

Pink: yay for the kitties. Molly is a cute name! I might call our cat that if we get one (can't use it for a daughter as she would then be Molly Holland and that just sounds stupid.)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Oh god chris, that's awful. My thoughts are with you.

She could be like Molly Holly the female wrestler! haha. I'll have to get one of our digital cameras to work so that i can show you pics!! they are soo cwute!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 11:38 (twenty years ago)

I bought a chair for £5 yesterday. That was the highlight of my weekend, even more so than the sight of some truly filthy toys and some very cute people at Pride. Now I'm at work again and all the students seem to have colds so no doubt I'll be ill too soon :(

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:45 (twenty years ago)

so jealous of the kittens, pink! if you ever need anyone to cat-sit, you know my number...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Haha, you'll be able to see them at the housewarming if you can make it!!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry too, Chris.

But, Pink - yay! Yes, pictures are in order. I like the idea of Molly Holly. You know, I was feeling kind of odd about Nick's kitty being named Lucy because I always wanted to name a daughter Lucy, but I'm sure my future daughter wouldn't mind taking her name after a cat? But anyway, there are loads of great girl names in the world (I can't say so much for boy names, they tend to be more boring ha ha).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:12 (twenty years ago)

It's so much easier to name a boy. *sigh* get thee to my cat naimg thread mclusky!! :-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:13 (twenty years ago)

oh when's that? or is there not a date yet?

(xpost)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:13 (twenty years ago)

Are you calling the cat McLusky? I think you should!!!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:16 (twenty years ago)

That could be cool! Although I'd be forever thinking of Mrs McClusky from grange hill.
Not sure yet Colette, but you'll know when i do lady!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Heavens, man. I hope so as well -- my best for dealing with that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:56 (twenty years ago)

I have never understood the appeal of a motorcycle. Im hoping that my best friend decides to sell his motorcycle after this. I also just found out that its going to be a reverse casket, whatever that is. I guess one side of his body is a complete mess. Oh man.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I have no idea what a reverse casket is. i hate motorbikes, i would die if my boy or my kids said they wanted one.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:05 (twenty years ago)

WORCESTER- A city man died yesterday when his motorcycle careened into an oncoming car on Lovell Street, splitting his bike in half and knocking his shoes and helmet off.

It was the third motorcycle accident that killed someone from Worcester County in three days.

`"Speed kills," said Bradford Douglas, who witnessed yesterday's crash.

Witnesses gave gory accounts of the accident, which occurred shortly after 5 p.m. They described how the motorcyclist slid into an oncoming car after racing east on Lovell Street, past Columbus Park Elementary School and toward Lakeside Apartments.

`"He was flying like 80, 90 miles per hour, and kept accelerating as he came down the street," said Mr. Douglas, who said he saw the crash from his third-floor apartment on Lovell Street.

Police Sgt. John J. Fallavollita would not release the man's name yesterday because his entire family had not been notified. He said the man is 22 years old and from Worcester. The man was transported to St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m., Sgt. Fallavollita said.

The crash remains under investigation by Sgt. Fallavollita and police Officers William Zelenak and Richard Cowen, of the traffic division. Sgt. Fallavollita said police must determine how fast the motorcyclist was traveling and what caused him to veer into the oncoming car.

Mr. Douglas said he looked out his apartment window when he heard the motorcycle, a 2003 Honda, screaming down his street, toward Lakeside Avenue at the Park Avenue intersection. Mr. Douglas said he is concerned about people driving quickly down the street because he has children. The area has a 30 mph speed limit before it reaches the school zone.

Mr. Douglas said he saw the motorcyclist start to lose control when he tried to slow down after seeing the oncoming car, a green Toyota Camry. The bike began to careen on the road, he said.

The motorcyclist eventually skidded out into the opposite lane, smashing into the front passenger side of the oncoming Camry while he was in a low, tilted position after losing control of the bike. The car's air bags deployed upon impact, and the front end and passenger-side tire were ripped apart. The Camry was driven by Jenna M. Dasaro, 24, of Chandler Street. She faces no charges in the accident.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike several yards and landed in a nearby parking lot. His bike's front fork and wheel were ripped off and rolled some 30 yards away, into the Commerce Plaza parking lot across from the Lakeside housing complex. The frame of the bike and engine rolled some 50 yards away, down Lovell Street.

Parts of the motorcycle were scattered all over the street and parking lot - many, including the front fork and wheel, stopping underneath parked cars.

Edwin Perez, 23, of Worcester, said he had just parked his car in the parking lot and he and his girlfriend were preparing to go into the Tin Tin Buffet when he heard the crash. The main section of the bike rolled past his car, as he saw parts of it scattering throughout the street. The bike's ignition key flew off and hit the front of his car. It remained there, the bent, until police retrieved it. A South Shore Motorsports key chain was still attached.

`"We heard the crash and when I looked up, I just saw the motorcycle flipping by," Mr. Perez said.

Witnesses said they approached the man to help but believe he died upon impact. His helmet remained there long after the body was taken to the hospital, as police investigated the crash and checked skid marks on Lovell Street.

Residents said cars and motorcycles often speed down Lovell Street, stirring a public safety concern. They say motorists typically start to speed up after using the rotary at Lovell and Maywood streets, and use that momentum to race down Lovell Street.

`"As soon as they get to the other side, they just punch it," said Wilson Toledo, who said he sees cars speeding down the street regularly.

Yesterday's crash follows two others in three days that have killed motorcyclists.

Friday, a Templeton man was killed in Gardner when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a United Parcel Service van. Rodney P. Brooks, 47, of 64 B Maple St., died while he was being taken by ambulance to Heywood Hospital in Gardner.

Thursday, a Northbridge man was killed when his motorcycle crashed in Ashland, moments after leaving his wedding rehearsal and in view of his fiancee, who was following him in a car. Colby Miller, 30, of 6 Overlook St., was thrown from the bike into an embankment near Winter Street in Ashland.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:07 (twenty years ago)

OMG Chris, *hugs*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:10 (twenty years ago)

Awful.
Think of how horrible it must be for the driver of the Camry.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 14:26 (twenty years ago)

According to my friend, the kid had just gotten his motorcycle learners permit on Friday. He had a huge arguement with his father about taking riding lessons before getting on a bike. He left in a huff, got on his friends bike and this is what happens. Makes me think about all the times I refused to listen to my parents. Sometimes parents truly know whats best.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, I have to go to a wake tomorrow night for my best friends cousin who was killed saturday in a motorcycle crash. Apparently he was going 90mph and hit a car head on. I guess the accident scene was beyond gruesome. I hope to god its a closed casket.

Major x-post, Chris, but so sorry you have to deal with that (though tis horrible for the fam too, o'course). Take care, and I'll be thinking of you....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes parents truly know whats best.

Sadly, your friend prolly realised the same, seconds before:< I'm assuming he'd had lessons before getting his permit, in the first place?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:37 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if he had lessons before or not. I'm seriously debating not going tomorrow night, I can't deal with that. Especially if he is seriously mangled, which i heard is the case. I've been a mess thinking about it since I found out yesterday.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Surely it wont be an open casket if he is though Chris.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Open caskets are fucked up anyway.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago)

No they're not!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Totally they are. Ostentatious, creepy, like some kind of emotionally scarring freak show. Let them rest in peace, for heaven's sake!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Well i guess a reverse casket is set up so when you walk in you see the top of the head first rather than feet first. I guess thats so you can't really get a good look at the person. All these wakes I've been too in the past 6 months is what set off my anxiety all over again and this is not helping. I think Im going to call my friend and tell him I will be there any other way I can, but I can't make this one.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:49 (twenty years ago)

After a solid week of pounding the beat and ringing agency phones to this scenario:

"Any work?

No?

Bastards...

Next...."

Scored another interview on Wednesday (as a shipping clerk) with this company:

Interesting position in a young E-commerce company.
Responsible for shipping and handling procedures, computer oriented, independent, reliable and hard worker. Position includes various office duties.
Full time position.

As long as I can hopefully gain some coinage, I won't sweat the interview. Course, it would be refreshing to actually get the position, but being "queen of the interviews", I'd say that.

Amazing what I earned a college degree for [and that wasn't it], can't do applications or---track down references---without moola.

*ahem* Mini-rant and still waking up. My claws are still out.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:55 (twenty years ago)

(I'm sorry if my opinions upset anyone with regards to specific casket incidents. I think I just have a bit of a phobia about it)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:56 (twenty years ago)

College degrees ain't worth shit these days - what were you expecting?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:56 (twenty years ago)

I think Im going to call my friend and tell him I will be there any other way I can, but I can't make this one.

(hugs) Chris, you have to do what's best for your well-being. Your friend should be able to understand that, considering that this is so traumatic.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Is it totally the norm that EVERYONE looks into the casket? Like in a procession? So no way you could just sit it out at the back? I hate the thought of open caskets too, whatever the circs.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:02 (twenty years ago)

sometimes you can't help but look into it.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:09 (twenty years ago)

College degrees ain't worth shit these days - what were you expecting?

Better than $10/hour (if that), but that's just my inner optimistic freak talking.

Precisely why I'm working on getting my Masters.

[(arched brow) Missed your calling as a ray of hope, BTW.]

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Good luck Nick!

I believe that my masters will get me a choice of better paid jobs. But on some level I also believe it won't. Because something in my personality just doesn't FIT with 'proper' jobs or with having to compete in a labour 'market'. If it came to the crunch, I wouldn't fight for my place on the ladder. And I'm also a bit lazy.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Merci, Archel!

I wouldn't worry. You've just achieved what most new Buddhists spend years aspiring to: "Job-Seekers Enlightenment".

(Sadder thing is, by the time I get the frigging piece of paper, that prolly won't count for shit since I'll need a Ph.D.)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Do you think... could it be... someone just wants our MONEY? Haha if so because I don't pay fees. But really, it makes you wonder sometimes don't it?

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

I want all the money. All the money in the universe! I will not be satisfied until I have EVERY LAST PENNY!

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Ya think?;> Centuries of civilisation, and that's the best solution we could come up with: Putting poor people into debt to make them more poor.

(xpost)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Sorry for the outburst. I would gladly settle for 75% of the money in the universe.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago)

I guess I'll take the other 25% then... that should make a *small* dent in the student debt.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:41 (twenty years ago)

I'll take a 10% commission on all the money in the universe plz.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:47 (twenty years ago)

The problem with having 75% of all the money in the universe is that you can't spend it or you won't have 75% of all the money in the universe anymore. And that would be a downer.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Okay, fine, I'll settle for $50 from everyone. (Doesn't seem so unreasonable now, huh?)

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 16:17 (twenty years ago)

Well I just got confirmed gossip on the scoop of the accident. Apparently he is completely unrecognizable, all his bones in pretty much his entire body are shattered and the firemen on the scene said if he had bones, you wouldn't have known.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:35 (twenty years ago)

So therefore, I will definately not be attending.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Yikes, Chris. How is your friend holding up?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Portland is fucking hot. 95-100 today, feels like. it'll be this way till i leave.

job interviews went okay today. one lasted 15 minutes, which is shorter than the time required to drive there. other was a staffing company. turns out that i have an interview with another staffing company tomorrow in the very same building, only three floors lower.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 9 August 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago)

My interview went well, I think. Not to jinx it. And Jesus fucking mother of ass it's hot today.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 9 August 2004 21:23 (twenty years ago)

It's ass cold here.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:36 (twenty years ago)

It's 9°C (48°F) here. Coldest summer on record. Anyone down south wanna take me in?

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:48 (twenty years ago)

Totally they are. Ostentatious, creepy, like some kind of emotionally scarring freak show. Let them rest in peace, for heaven's sake!
OF course they are not. If a loved one has died, surely you want to spend as much time with them before you have to say goodbye. I am really f@#king offended by what you said.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 07:02 (twenty years ago)

Goddammit I wish I were in the prairies now.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 07:30 (twenty years ago)

Well, that's not entirely true, this is shaping up to be a pretty nice week actually. Insane amounts of poetry and drinking with my poetry friends, which is always a treat. And hopefully the job will come through.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 07:31 (twenty years ago)

But wow, 100-degree weather is the pure suck.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 07:32 (twenty years ago)

Also, I had this dream last night in which I was shot. And spent a long time waiting for medical help. There was another guy in the dream, he was shot much worse. Perhaps he died, I don't remember. But anyway for a few hours (in dream-time) I was wandering around, as if in a movie, looking for a phone to contact an ambulence.

It didn't hurt, but it was still a fairly stressful dream.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 07:41 (twenty years ago)

Well don't be f@#king offended, Pink. *I* think it's fucked up - what you think is none of my business and I'm surprised you've taken it so personally. I have serious issues with dead bodies being a spectacle in any context. So let me apologise, again, for being so blunt with my original comment. But I'm not having a go at you, so please don't take it that way.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:10 (twenty years ago)

have you seen a dead relative Mark? have you seen a grieving member of your family barely being able to control their grief? Have you ever been to a chapel of rest? have you ever stopped to think why ppl want this?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:34 (twenty years ago)

Why not just accept the apology and let me keep my own opinion? I won't mention it again.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:41 (twenty years ago)

Because you are insulting by saying it is 'Ostentatious, creepy, like some kind of emotionally scarring freak show.'

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:43 (twenty years ago)

IN MY OPINION!! I can't see why people would want it - if they do, then fine. I apologised for god's sake! I'll take back "ostentatious" if you like, as that's probably unfair.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:46 (twenty years ago)

You'll take that back, that's real big of you mark!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:47 (twenty years ago)

So what do you want me to do? I think differently to you, it's not a sodding crime. Your reaction to grief and grtieving is different from mine - why can't you just leave it?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm not saying it's a crime, but to have no regard or consideration is pretty shitty. If you don't understand why these ppl want to do this, who are you to judge?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:50 (twenty years ago)

I understand and accept your point, I apologised, what, three times now, I agree that I was being unreasonable to assert my own personal opinions onto others. Happy yet?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:51 (twenty years ago)

It's hard to accept such sincere apologies, don't bother!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:52 (twenty years ago)

I hope that all made you feel much better. And my apologies were fucking sincere.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:55 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, take it off the thread guys.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:57 (twenty years ago)

Sorry archel, but there wasn't exactly anywhere else to take it.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 11:05 (twenty years ago)

I hope that all made you feel much better.
Oh & Mark, you have no idea!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 11:06 (twenty years ago)

Why are you still picking a fight?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Unequivocally, I'm sorry, Pink. I'm sure there are things that my insensitivity has upset you for strong personal reasons and I never wanted that to happen. I do mean my apologies, and I'm also sorry I didn't think that my aggressive comments might be taken this way.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 11:35 (twenty years ago)

Good morning all my wonderful, amicable, delightful friends! As of now, it is no longer early October on the Prairies as it was yesterday, today it's late March!
What a wonderful place to live. I can't believe more people haven't flocked here. Really, really astonishing.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago)

I stayed home sick yesterday and played video games almost all day long (though I also applied for a couple of jobs online). Now I'm having trouble getting back into the work rhythm. I am sleepy.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:36 (twenty years ago)

Sleepy is my work rhythm.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:37 (twenty years ago)

I'm just counting the hours till I can go to the pub. 1.5 now.

(Although my friend just tried to flake out on me because now it's sunny again he wants to go out on his bike instead. NO! I said. You are sitting on your arse and getting drunk with me like a NORMAL person.)

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:23 (twenty years ago)

I have a terrible pain just below my right ear. Has someone shot me with a poison dart?

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Vee haff vays off makink you tock.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm already tocking. Tick tock. 67 minutes to pub time.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

So my friendly neighbourhood record dealer just called me at work to let me know that a bunch of stuff I want just arrived. I'm trying to save money for my escape, dammit! And I have twelve dollars!
But the new Sadies is in, and it's not supposed to be out for a few more weeks and I could rock it on the radio tomorrow night and I've got a freelance cheque due in tomorrow and a payday on Thursday, so a little credit card action won't hurt anybody?
WHY WHY WHY?

(though considering these are the worst of my problems, I have no complaints, huh?)

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Also, Chris V., next time you change your name, consider "The Velvet Ringo" it's a subtle change, but it's what I think of everytime I see your "rub it the right way mix" thread on ILM.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Hello.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:36 (twenty years ago)

And now he's just got another order of comedy discs in. FUck you too, buddy.

xpost,
Hi Cazz

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Who will make the pancakes this morning? Who?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Not I, I have to make a mail run.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:39 (twenty years ago)

How do you make a mail run?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Tell him you're preggers.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Get his wife to nag him about taking out the trash!
Dammit xpost.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago)

That was bad.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago)

I made lemon-poppyseed muffins this morning. Also, last night, I made artichokes for the first time ever.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:44 (twenty years ago)

We're both going to be kicked out of the Friars' Club.

xpost

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to get kicked out of the Friar's Club because I braised the artichokes instead of frying them.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Deep-fried artichokes sound kinda good.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:47 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if I'm pregnant.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Look, Nick, I told you, my boys don't swim.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:52 (twenty years ago)

You must be a tramp.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:54 (twenty years ago)

!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:19 (twenty years ago)

It's true, his boys don't swim.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:20 (twenty years ago)

They just kind of stand there, splashing and giggling.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:21 (twenty years ago)

Well, they just ate.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:34 (twenty years ago)

why does the Canadian corr. for B!11b0@rd keep spamming me?

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:41 (twenty years ago)

They've heard about your boys, I guess.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 19:23 (twenty years ago)

Blah blah, Kelis, blah blah blah, Don Henley.
Assembly yr own joke.

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 19:53 (twenty years ago)

hunting for housing of craigslist is fun:
FREE HOUSING FOR SINGLE ATTRACTIVE GIRL

WELL NO THIS IS FREE HOUSING TO A SINGLE WHITE ATTRACTIVE LADY WHOS 18 TO 22. SOME ONE WHO HAS A GREAT BODY I AM NOT UGLY FAT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT I AM ACUALLY A MODEL THATS WHY I CAN AFFORD TO SUPPORT 2 PPL. BUT I HATE DATING MODELS WHO ARE CONCEDED AND FAR FROM DOWN TO EARTH. IF YOU THINK THIS MIGHT BE YOU CALL ARRON @ 50O 7E4 7&39

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 22:49 (twenty years ago)

What's so terrible about conceded models? Does this guy prefer to win them outright?

(ps, I hope all this talk about my boys hasn't scared anybody off)

Huck, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 03:21 (twenty years ago)

okay, i found a place to live. NE side, Prescott & 6th. Here goes nuthin'.

oh yeah, and the guy i had an interview with today completely forgot and wasn't even in his fuckin' office.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 04:17 (twenty years ago)

You should report such to his higher-up, maybe you'll get HIS job.

Huck, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 04:27 (twenty years ago)

"Who's the new guy in Bob's office?"
"Oh, some snitch."
"Cool, I wonder if he plays slo-pitch?"

Huck, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 04:31 (twenty years ago)

It's good to know some of you have been really brilliantly hilarious. Archel, Huck, Casuistry -- thanks for making me do a really odd-sounding snort-laugh combo that would've meant my having to get a new monitor if I had liquid refreshment in my mouth at that time.

Conversely, it's not good that some of you have had a disagreement. Mark, Pink, sounds like you two have very different, UNIQUE methods of dealing with loss, and while I'm of the mind that open caskets should be done at any funeral where the deceased's appearance wasn't affected in a grotesque manner [in that case, best to remember the person as the way they were when they were alive, through photos], I do recognize that some people might be creeped out by visions of the deceased, even if they appear exactly as they did when they were alive.

And that's all I have to say here, since I'm not going to waste any time telling you about the usual.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 05:21 (twenty years ago)

Why do I feel like I've just been told off? I had a difference of opinion with someone on ILX, it's not like I'm always picking fights or something!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 07:06 (twenty years ago)

Now it's my time to say I'm sorry, Pink. I honestly did not mean to make that sound the way it sounded. I guess I'm just so sensitive to conflict on THIS particular thread that I want to be Diplomatic Woman and try to settle the conflict. Apparently, this time it failed.

(Yes, I'm still up.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:11 (twenty years ago)

What are you doing still up dee? No apology necessary. I'm not in the habit of even offering my opinion on ILX as it has proved to be too upsetting for me. However, if there is something that offends me, especially on this thread, I've gotta speak up. Of course I don't want conflict on this thread, but like I said, it's not as if I came on this thread to pick a fight. I am regular on here & I don't make it a regular occurance to have an argument with someone. Tomorrow is my last day of here for a little while anyway.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah have good time off and good luck with the move Pink!!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:24 (twenty years ago)

Cheers Arch! Although we've just had some bad news, one of the kittens is poorly. :-(

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:26 (twenty years ago)

Eep, I'm getting really nervous about my photo shoot thing tomorrow... why did I agree to it when I always look like a toad in photographs??

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:27 (twenty years ago)

Aw no, poorly kitten! Is it serious or just one of those baby sicknesses they get?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:28 (twenty years ago)

I think (i hope) just a tummy upset. they have put him on anti-biotics & had to seperate him from sully. They said he ate a bit this morning, so that has to be good news.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:33 (twenty years ago)

I'm still up because of various reasons. It's really quite complex and cannot be delved into properly at this time. Sorry for being a Woman of Mystery here!

Pink, I know what you mean about being reluctant to offer your opinion. Totally. Even though I seem to do that quite a lot, offering opinions and all, I hold back WAY more than I let loose. I wouldn't trust my worldview with anyone until I'm convinced they're able to be trustworthy.

Good luck with your move and please try to swing by this place again on a regular basis AS SOON as you can! Not a second longer!

(Note: Later on, I'm going to look at this post and wonder why it sucks so badly, as a reply AND as a stand-alone post.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:54 (twenty years ago)

Good luck Pink. I'm sorry we had a fight. See you soon I hope!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:56 (twenty years ago)

I know exactly what you mean. I remember getting invovled in a foxhunting thread once & that was a big mistake!!
Anyways, whoooaaaahhhhh mysterious girl! Hm, I am intrigued!!!
I'll be back in just over a week, never fear. I have to move & look after my new kitties.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:01 (twenty years ago)

Dudes, i'll still be around tomorrow!! It's then that I expect all the heartfelt praise & love, erm I mean best wishes!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:02 (twenty years ago)

best wishes for your kitty's health, pink. maybe it needs some sunshine and you should take it out for a walk in a cute little basket or something.

(oh god, i'm normaly tough as nails, but kittens make me twee)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:10 (twenty years ago)

It's james' kitty & he's really quite upset about it. My little kitty probably doesn't know what the hell is happening. poor little mungo, i hope he is better soon so that we can bring him home on sunday. although we should be moving, we might go to see him (& her yay) on friday.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:13 (twenty years ago)

Let there be cat health and a happy move!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:24 (twenty years ago)

So I ended up going to the wake after all to give my friend my support. He cried on my shoulder, it was sad. But the casket was closed. They wouldn't let the poor kids parents go in to see or identify him he was that messed up. I guess the side where he hit was flattened. Ugh, sad. Im glad I went, my friend really needed me and my friend G. After hanging out with us for a little while he was seemingly back to normal. It was good to be there.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:39 (twenty years ago)

Good for you Chris, I am glad that it went well. (as well as these things can go.) *hugs*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:45 (twenty years ago)

You're a stand-up guy, Chris.

Huck, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:24 (twenty years ago)

Hey huXor dude, how's it hanging? *sniggers*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:25 (twenty years ago)

Good for you Chris, hope you don't have an experience like that again any time soon though.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:28 (twenty years ago)

That was good of you, Chris.

Pink, after I picked Pepper out, there was a couple of months in which I had to move back to Virginia and she wouldn't be coming up for a while. And my mom called and said she didn't think she would make it. :-( She was the runt kitten and was very weak and had to be bottle-fed, but she lived! And now she's very healthy, petite little cat. Mungo just needs a home and people to give him loads of attention.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:30 (twenty years ago)

*good thoughts for the V. Bingo*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:30 (twenty years ago)

I am sure he will be ok, they said he had eaten something today, so that surely is a good sign? maybe they gave him his jabs of something. Thanks Sarah.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago)

I do like it when the Murkans get online... it's like a whole new bunch of your friends just came into the bar... :)

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:33 (twenty years ago)

PinXor, that's not the kind of "boys" I was talking about.
THough THOSE boys are hanging fine.

Huck, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:33 (twenty years ago)

Hey chaps. Archel, are you posting more than ever? And your pants being a size 20 - not a British size 20, surely? Or are pant sizes different to dress sizes? Or were you just taunting that poor horny boy?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:34 (twenty years ago)

mark, maybe she was joking?!!!!
Huck, what boys were you talking about, although I'm glad your biys are fine!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:36 (twenty years ago)

Yes I am having a posting frenzy. V bored. Still hate you all, obviously :)

I was joking about size 20, to put him off? Actually they are a size 10.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Bitch!! (sorry)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Haha, they are um pretty snug though! Wishful purchasing...

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 00:18 (twenty years ago)

ILX = big fucking yawn. I can't get over how bad it is.

And I don't want to hear any bullshit about how it goes through cycles again. I've been here a long time now, and it has gone consistently downhill.

I'm glad I met most of the people who post on this thread even if I don't always have a lot to say here.

I probably will continue not to post much at all anywhere in the future, but I'm so fed up with it today I felt the need to actually say something. Sorry if I brought anybody down.

Later...

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 12 August 2004 00:48 (twenty years ago)

It's weird - last week I wanted to cut ILX out almost completely. This week I'm gripped. I agree it's gone downhill, things move in, but somehow I still seem to be enjoying it (or maybe just sadism).

Blimey, loads of pics. I'll try to have a peek later! Glad you had a good time dude!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 06:33 (twenty years ago)

good morning everyone.

am surprised by how not hungover i am this morning, since i went to a boat pub on the thames and then out dancing at a cheezy club till fairly late. but it was fun.

how is everyone else?

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 07:50 (twenty years ago)

Hi colette, boat pub sounds cool! I am so bored at work that I am compulsively posting to ILx again, despite 'giving it up'. Photo shoot later today for this uni exhibition - and I have horrid pre-menstrual skin so that's ideal really :(

Any tips for looking better in photographs?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 12 August 2004 08:00 (twenty years ago)

Hm, wish I did have some tips lady! Maybe put some powder on your nose & forehead to eliminate shine? I mean if you are prone, arrgghhhh!
Colette that does sound like mucho fun!
Today is the day where we complete on our house & get the keys, yay!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 08:04 (twenty years ago)

archel, here's my tips: don't have your body facing the camera directly. it's much more flattering to have your body at a small (i dunno 20-30 degrees?) angle to the camera, with your face looking straight at the camera. also, try to remember to keep your chin down-- makes your eyes look bigger when you look up a little at the camera. also, i think you're too skinny to worry about it, but if you're worried about a little double-chin action, put your tongue on the roof of your mouth while you're smiling.

i'm sure you'll be fantastic! what did you decide to wear?

pink, that sounds great! any word on james' kitty?

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 08:45 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the tips! I am wearing jeans, a black sleeveless top and of course my red shoes. I'm going to be sitting surrounded by poetry books and scribbling in a notebook, I think. Cheese!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 12 August 2004 08:54 (twenty years ago)

Sounds great archel!
Have just heard about the kitty. He seems to be on the mend, but they want to keep him til next week. We can still take Molly (as I've decided to call her) home. it's a shame we can't take him home sooner, but i'd rather he stay there where a vet is on hand.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:13 (twenty years ago)

i think that sounds suitably poetic, archel, i'm sure you'll look great. what are they going to do with these pictures, again? was it for a show, or for publicity of some kind?

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Yeah it's for a show, of university staff engaged in their extra-curricular passions. As it were. Off I go now - wish me luck!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Good luck!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:36 (twenty years ago)

good luck, and have fun!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:44 (twenty years ago)

If I didn't make a baby last night, I don't know whats wrong with the boys. I was all worked up and I threw on a little Maxwell after discussing it on ILM and got my groove on. For 2 minutes.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:47 (twenty years ago)

I love Maxwell, totally the right sort of making babies music!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:49 (twenty years ago)

No doubt. He's always been one of my favs when it comes to bedroom activities.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:50 (twenty years ago)

Hehe, your lil babies will come out singing maxwell, how cool is that!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:52 (twenty years ago)

That would be damn cool.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:52 (twenty years ago)

You know it!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Yay we've completed, the house is ours! booyah!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 10:51 (twenty years ago)

Yay Pink! Possess that house! Woo!

Oh, and the photo was fairly painless. Although I don't think he was keen on the piles of books idea in the end - he took lots of other shots of just me twiddling a pen, or with a notepad full of out-of-focus writing in front of me. lucky it was out-of-focus really, as it was some notes on London language schools rather than a poem...

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 12 August 2004 12:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm so bored today! boo...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 12:30 (twenty years ago)

my dog came and slept on my legs last night, and when I woke up to pee they were totally asleep. I swung 'em over the bedside, tried to stand and did a huge digger in the middle of my bedroom. I've got a big (though shallow) cut on my left shin, and a bruise on my forehead.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Little pink houses
For Pink and her boy

Okay, that's not quite the song but it still means something. Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

And the kitties can live here!

Actually that is a fucking disgusting object. Oh well.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Aww thanks guys! I'm off in a bit, so how are y'all gonna cope without me huh?!!
OMG archel i've got to have it! (although it's pretty yucky!)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:12 (twenty years ago)

also, i finally got home at 2:20am last night, with obviously plenty of time to recuperate thru the jet lag to be at work this morning.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Good morning!
Great news on the house. Finally finally.
When will you be ready for an unkempt houseguest?

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Nice one pinkpanther :)

Hello, everybody!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Great pix, kingfish! And yay, Pink!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:24 (twenty years ago)

Guys, I'm off now, so thanks all for your kind words. if you wanna come to have a nose, just get in touch! Take care y'all! xxxx

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:36 (twenty years ago)

hi mark, hi huck, hi sarah.

it feels like friday for me because i'm working from home tomorrow, which means i get to sleep in and stuff. hooray!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Pink will be busy unpacking into her new house. :-D

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Pink, you didn't answer, so I guess that means you want me to come over soon. I'll be there.

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:45 (twenty years ago)

huck, you can share my living room with my goldfish flojo if you need a layover on the way to cambridge. as long as you bring back a kitten in payment.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

So Huck, tell us how you started your career as an intercontinental kitty smuggler?

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:48 (twenty years ago)

doesn't have to be international kitties, just bring back one of pink's to london. i'm sure they wouldn't notice...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 12 August 2004 13:58 (twenty years ago)

It is good and pleasant to transport kitties across national borders.

I meant to take a nap last night and get some things done at night when it is cool and pleasant but alas I slept soundly. It is morning now and the ice wolves are nowhere to be found.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 12 August 2004 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I just got a press release of some upcoming fall TV programming and was most distressed by this:

MANN TO MANN

Bravo! Premiere - Every Wednesday @ 10:30pm ET, beginning October 6
The owner of a male strip club falls into a coma and his living will dictates that his two daughters - straight-laced Victoria and troubled
Ronnie - take over the business. Produced in association with CHUM Television, this series stars Lorraine Ansell, Tori Hammond and
Patrick McKenna.

BOOOO! Not to Chris, but to Wayne Newton, who cancelled his concert here next week. BOOOO!
I already had my lead written.

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:21 (twenty years ago)

Did your lead involve how over the past several decades, the public's interest has never "wayned" in Mr. Newton?

"The most memorable part of the least memorable James Bond movie."

Archel (Archel), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:13 (twenty years ago)

I have a very light day at work today!
I can't friggin' believe it.

huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:20 (twenty years ago)

I am going home soon to watch The Godfather II and then Matt and I both have the weekend off, for once. woo!

Archel (Archel), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:26 (twenty years ago)

I watched The Man With Two Brains last night. It was not as funny as it was 20 years ago. Nor was I as impressed with the nudity as I was last time I saw it, which may have been my first exposure to nudity on film.

Huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Argh, it turns out I'm probably going to have work to do on what I thought was going to be a relaxing Friday. Dammit.

So last night we went and looked at this practice space that we might move to from our current practice space, and it is so nice. It's like four times as big as our current space, but it would end up being cheaper. The increased size means that we could actually move around without bumping into each other, and we could probably record in there too. It has windows that can be opened. It has an actual clean bathroom (with a shower (!?!?!)) and the fire escape overlooks an ancient collapsing factory and the train tracks and a beautiful view of the city. The only bad thing: it's on the fourth floor and has no elevator at the moment, which means hauling our stuff up and down four flights of stairs whenever we have a show. Oh well, I could use the exercise.

na (Nick A.), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Hire neighbourhood kids to do the heavy lifting. They'll probably do it for a popsicle.

Huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:48 (twenty years ago)

bah. they fucked up my paycheck and didn't pay me my overtime. fortunately, my super is off to bug the payroll folks about it.

how the hell am I going to get rid of two Kustom PA speakers? anybody want 'em? they're 4x10 in a single column, about 5" tall, etc.

i'm gunna start a moving sale thread, i will.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Actually, we need PA equipment. Those are pretty big. But if you're selling 'em cheap, we might take them. Email me yo: naamme @ yahoo dot com.

na (Nick A.), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:08 (twenty years ago)

THIS WOMAN HAS BEEN TALKING TO ME ON THE PHONE FOR LITERALLY TEN MINUTES WITH NO RESPONSE FROM ME OTHER THAN "Uhm hum" EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND HAS YET TO ASK ME A QUESTION. WHY AREN'T I ALLOWED TO HANG UP?

na (Nick A.), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago)

STILL TALKING...I HAVE NO MEDICAL TRAINING. I CANNOT HELP YOU. GO SEE A FUCKING DOCTOR.

na (Nick A.), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Ask her if her fridge is running.

Huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

At this point I'm just staying on the line as a kind of morbid curiosity as to how long she'll talk without a response. She's still talking.

na (Nick A.), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Kingfish, I don't suppose you have a PA to sell to go with those speakers?

Nick, that should be good practice for the day when you have to talk to my mom on the phone.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:03 (twenty years ago)

NA, emailed.

sarah, i have a bass head that could work in a pinch.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:03 (twenty years ago)

I just took a call from an irate reader wondering why the paper didn't list what time the Olympic opening ceremonies are on TV.
"What's wrong with your paper? The Olympics are the biggest story in four years! This should be on the front page!"
Well, it's not the biggest story of the last four years, and it is on the front page. And the TV listings are in the TV Listings Insert in today's flippin' paper you piece of shit!
"Well thanks for nothing!"
Nothing? I fucking answered your fucking questions! It's not even my job to answer your questions! Fuck you. I know where you live. We have call display, and I can make a trip over to the Circulation dept and arrange for a 12-year-old to be at your door with a flaming bag of poop before 7 tomorrow morning.
DO NOT FUCK WITH ME.

Huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Kingfish, you didn't quote me a price. And how would we be able to get them from you? Eh.

I finally got off the phone with that lady by lying and saying I had to get the other line. What a nut.

na (Nick A.), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Nick, you got the same email I did, right? I guess maybe it was after you posted that.

We have a Marshall guitar amp head we're going to try out as a PA.

I want that new space. I'm in love with it.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 13 August 2004 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 13 August 2004 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Fruity asses and shakey drinks for me please!

Huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Awesome. Thanks, luna.

Can I get some fries?
With that shake shake booty
If looks could kill you would be an uzi

I want Mexican food now.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 13 August 2004 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Yay! Many congrats to you, Chris P!! :)

Archel, I trust you know that the screams you hear are the ones coming from 3,000-plus miles. I'd thought I'd seen a news item on a DD news page alluding to this but alas, it was late at night and I was bleary-eyed. But OH MY GOD, THE PICTURES ARE ONLINE! I guess you know what I'll be staring at the rest of the evening....

(Thank you ever so. Oh thank you thank you thank you.)

Huck, the way you handled that call was AWESOME.

And I could do with some unplugging. Esp after the horribly dark week I had. Anyone wanting more specs can just go to my little journal thingy.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 14 August 2004 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 16 August 2004 01:14 (twenty years ago)

After being on vacation for a week, I can NOT deal with having to return to my fabric-walled cubicle tomorrow morning. Seriously, I could start to cry just thinking about it.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 16 August 2004 01:24 (twenty years ago)

i was in the similar position on thursday.

fortunately, i had the luxury of knowing that i will be quitting in about two weeks.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 16 August 2004 01:29 (twenty years ago)

I have a roommate! A little brown roommate who's been eating my toilet paper!
My bathroom is now a lair of death, and I await much gruesomeness and liberal-upbringing-inspired gnashing of teeth.
My place is clean though, and I don't have a lot of food or anything around, so I don't know why the mouse wouldn't just stay in the basement where the stoners are. They probably even have Doritos.
Fucking hell. I'll probably move again.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 03:02 (twenty years ago)

you live with poop?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 August 2004 03:02 (twenty years ago)

At least you didn't make some sort of ethnic joke, which I realize in hindsight, I may have set up.
Where's all you twee kitties now that I need them?

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 04:03 (twenty years ago)

oh Huck, please don't buy into the hstencil-is-a-racist myth.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 August 2004 04:04 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't buying into anything (though you are from Kentucky) (I kid), just pointing out that if someone, ANYone, had wanted to...

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 04:15 (twenty years ago)

I'd lend you my cat, but I'm not actually sure that she's a mouser.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 16 August 2004 05:38 (twenty years ago)

Huck, did you send the poo to the caomplainer? Please say you did.

I feel I should report in, though I don't have much to say. I miss my gf (who doesn't have a computer at her mum's place in the Berkshires) though I'm discovering, oddly enough, that I gtet more done around the house when she's not there. Presumably I get distracted by her cuteness :)

Work isn't bad at the moment - I seem to be getting a few responsible things to do, which I need at this stage in my career. So I'm fairly happy right now, which is about as un-newsworthy as it gets. But hello y'all!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 16 August 2004 11:22 (twenty years ago)

Hi Mark!

I really enjoy doing housework and general pottering when Matt's not there, but not when he is... I don't know why except maybe a) it feels like I might be squandering quality couple time and b) I get a niggle of resentment that I'm doing chores while he's not (which is absurd as he does at least as much around the house as I do).

Urrgh, must get back to work as have many DVDs to catalogue and label and write exciting blurbs for...

Hope you're all well this fine (?) Monday.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 16 August 2004 11:40 (twenty years ago)

Well, I'm off to work! Work, of all things!

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 16 August 2004 12:53 (twenty years ago)

Woo. Don't overdo it Chris!

Archel (Archel), Monday, 16 August 2004 12:55 (twenty years ago)

I have heard of this 'work'

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 16 August 2004 12:55 (twenty years ago)

I know what you mean, Archel. Though last night, I compromised by only washing my laundry. So I was doing chores, but they only really helped me (um, except for all those damn towels I washed - grrr! j/k) so I didn't feel any resentment.

I'm listening to the Shins (Chutes..). I'm still in denial that it's Monday morning and I'm at work.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 16 August 2004 12:59 (twenty years ago)

OH, I'm SOOO sorry I didn't help you do chores yesterday, Sarah, after loading two carloads of band equipment and then carrying the heaviest things up FOUR FLIGHTS OF STAIRS to our fucking awesome new practice space and then practicing for two hours. LA DI DA.

na (Nick A.), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:04 (twenty years ago)

I moved stuff too, you big dumbo. I'm gonna punch you in the esophagus later.

Love, me

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Who's Afraid of Guitar Wolf?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:11 (twenty years ago)

Of course I did, Markelby. You don't think I'm just some Walter Mitty/John Hinckley type who merely daydreams of enacting elaborate revenge fantasies, do you?

In other news, I drew first blood in the war on mice. I've never killed a vertebrate before, and in this part of the world, that makes you a sissy. So I'm not a sissy anymore. I'm a stone-cold, hard-ass killer.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 13:19 (twenty years ago)

ANyways, this was a pretty awesome weekend, what with my sister visiting, the CHICAGO SURPRISE TEENYFAP on Friday with lots of beer and hanging out on a rooftop right next to the El track, seeing a band whose members wore W. Bush, Rumsfield, Cheney, Powell, and Rice masks and whose lyrics were made up of Dubya speeches, eating at Chipotle (my fast-food guilty pleasure) on Saturday, going to see Tyrades, the Ponys, and Erase Errata at the Empty Bottle, and the abovementioned practice space nonsense. Now my body feels like I was pounded with one of those meat tenderizing hammers for a couple of hours.

na (Nick A.), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:20 (twenty years ago)

hello everyone, did you all have a nice weekend? sounds like you chicago folks had a great time! mine was kind of exhausting, full of unnecessary drama. but dancing and lots of good food and dressing up and swimming on tv are all good things.

2xpost

colette (a2lette), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:21 (twenty years ago)

I'd lend you my cat, but I'm not actually sure that she's a mouser.

Cas' cat, for reference. Good with maps. Scared of the basement.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:34 (twenty years ago)

In non-rodenticidal news, I saw loads of really good music this weekend. Incl, probably my favourite live band, the Sadies. Maybe I need to see more live bands.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Hey, colette. Dancing sounds fun. What kind of dancing? Club dancing?

Nick, being pounded with a meat tenderizer sounds nice. I bet that's something on the menu at those fancy shmancy spas. I'm sore too, but I still made myself walk from the el station to work this morning. I'm hardcore!

Huck, I'm curious as to how you went about killing this mouse, but at the same time I really don't want to know. I guess that would be a morbid curiousity, huh? If a mouse got in our house, I'd probably scream a lot and call the landlord, but then I'd just learn to live with it.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, you don't want to know. Suffice it to say that so-called humane traps aren't at all.

I did call the landlord, and he brought over a bunch of "humane" traps on his way out of town on holidays. I know that mice are small and don't need big holes, but there are still big fat fuckin' holes in my floors from where he took out the radiators and put in electric baseboard heaters last fall. So it's his fault. Cuz he's a cunt.
Seriously, it takes him like 3 months to do any repairs, and then he blames his handyman, and then his own house gets written up in the newspapers Homes Section, and I'm like, "Hey bitch, my rent paid for those renovations. I can have a 12-year-old with a flaming bag of poo at your front doorstep by dawn!" (my new answer to everything) (plus I sorta hung out with the head of circ this weekend, so maybe my fantasies will come true)

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Do you have an army of 12-year-olds at your disposal, Huck, or just one who does a lot of runnin'?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:52 (twenty years ago)

I work for a newspaper, but not in the delivery/circulation dept, but I could just go over there and ask them to do me a favour. I never really thought about it until last week, but like, fuck, those guys over there could probably stage a pretty awesome coup, just within the city, but who would suspect?

Ooooh, I think I have the premise for my Great Canadian Novel.
Or a Jack Kirby comic.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

sarah, there was some cheezy dancing at a bar my friend had hired for her birthday (i remember singing along to 'livin on a prayer'), and then we went to a dirty generic indie club night thing. the music was pretty bad, actually. but still an ok weekend.

huck, i'm just imagining an army of kids shouting 'i want my two dollars!' riding their bmx bikes behind you everywhere you go...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 16 August 2004 14:12 (twenty years ago)

I went swimming this weekend at the place I'm housesitting. It's got a high fence, and I was all by myself, so I thought 'hmm, ok...' and went sunbathing.

I GOT A SUNBURN ON MY BUTT.

I am going to hide under my bed forever.
