It's August 2004, so NOW what do you look like?

So, old thread, now new thread. Because I have a few shots from a series of formal family photos to share from the end of June -- me, my folks and my younger sister Kara. WARNING -- they're all pretty damned huge.

The Raggett Corporate Board welcomes you

"Oh, just ANOTHER day on the golf course."

You mean this isn't an art installation?

"And I'm related to them, can you STAND it?"

I have nothing to say about this photo.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 August 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I have nothing to say about this photo.

I do.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 7 August 2004 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Now my secret identity is exposed! With great power comes great responsibility and all that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 August 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a little weirded out that you have parents, Ned.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Saturday, 7 August 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

?!?!

*wonders if Mandee thought I was born of an egg or the seafoam*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 August 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I imagine that there were lots of nurses, novocaine, and tentacles involved.

Harold Media (kenan), Saturday, 7 August 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

You all know what my goofy ass looks like, but I feel some sense of duty whenever these threads come up.

NOW STOP CALLING ME GAY ALREADY! (kenan), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Harold, I never knew that your goofy ass was so white and flat and lacked an ass-crack.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, the I.T. guy here at the office just exclaimed that your sister's a "mega-watti hottie!"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, she'll like that. :-) And of course, she is indeed. She and her young man Tyler have been a couple for about three years now, though, so IT guy will have to appreciate from afar.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, now that I think about it, in the 'nothing to say' photo you can see her rockin' tattoo on her right wrist -- it's a spindle of thread, while there's a stitching pattern and a needle that runs around the entirety of her wrist. She is a knitting fiend (usually doing so while downing beers at the local bar).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a combination that wouldn't have occurred to me.

Harold Media (kenan), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

My family is totally not the goofy picture-posing type. I'm a bit jealous.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Harold, I never knew that your goofy ass was so white and flat and lacked an ass-crack.

Don't tempt me to post a picture of my ass, Ned. Remember -- gin makes a man mean.

Harold Media (kenan), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

My family is totally not the goofy picture-posing type. I'm a bit jealous.

Hey, you're missing out!

Bob Six (bobbysix), Saturday, 7 August 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll post some photos from my trip snowboarding today as soon as I get them from my friend.

Completely and utterly not OTM except for the clean living part.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 August 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

your sister (well your whole family really) looks like a giant monkeybarrel of fun.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 7 August 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

My sister could start a party in an empty room -- this is very much a compliment. Donut Bitch and El Diablo have met her and can confirm.

That's an amazing picture, man!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 8 August 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I am deeply jealous of, amongst many others, Jel, Stevem, RJG, 96, Jerry the Nipper, Roxy and Mandee for always looking unfailingly brilliant in photos.

Andrew and WUV! And beer! And snow!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 August 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It says 'ELWO' on that hand, and 'OD' on the other. It was a dress up party. I wasn't wearing my hat and glasses.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 9 August 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You're better than the Blues Brothers, man. You're Buckaroo Banzai or something (and same initials too!).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 August 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Synchronicity: my friend gave me a copy of Buckaroo Banzai for my birthday just a week ago. I've only watched the first few minutes but I don't know how closely I can identify with that guy. ;-)

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 9 August 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You've got the music and computer thing down, just be a surgeon and fight aliens and you're gold.

Okay, this isn't a perfect scan -- I gather I'll have the chance to get one from the photographers soon -- but this will do in the meantime in that it's one of the best photos of me recently, hands down. I very rarely like the way I look! This was taken in early June at two friends' wedding:

Alex: I don't know how to take that so I won't. You can have it back.

Shame the second one doesn't have the glorious sparkling clarity of the 190k original, but what can you do? I'm keeping it lo-fi for the dial-up motherscratchers out there. Represent.

Barry, you've ruined my Sugar Ray allure by revealing me to be a shortarsed fatfaced goon. Good suit, though.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 16 August 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

There is no such thing as "sugar ray allure" - and I think you look very nice in that foto! The both of yous do.

I am standing on a box on that picture, and yes, that was a lovely suit Michael

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 16 August 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I think there is some kinda unnecessary Alan Ladd leverage going on there. I've got photos of you and Mr Baran from the same glorious day and there isn't quite the same 'am I just standing further away?' effect as above.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 16 August 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

FWIW, I meant the Sugar Ray comment as a compliment. They may suck a bag of greasy cocks (in a decidedly non-interesting way), but Mark McGrath is a damn handsome man (and a big fan of both Devo and Killing Joke...which means he is, of course, all right by me).

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, yeah x-post. Images over a certain size (not sure if it's dimensions or file size or both) are blocked from ILX now, I think.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's both I'm pretty sure, or if whatever server you're using doesn't let ILX parse the information the way they ask for it, blah blah blah. I have been having this problem a LOT. :(

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I see - it's an ILX limitation. It's 51k, 595x894.

Well, I'm not that crazy about embedded images anyway so people can go look.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

51k is pretty small. I'm guessing it's the dimensions. Perhaps someone in the know could tell us - it doesn't seem to be in the FAQ.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, this is 28k and 319x480...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v426/Pernfors88/General/Summergrove.jpg

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think the filesize matters, it's all about dimensions i think.

it's kinda all done backwards (filesize should count foremost (ban anything over 1Mb??) and if it's too big dimensions size the software can always just stick a width and height tag in) but i didn't write the code :)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i think something like 800x600 is the limit.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

in fact the code already puts width and height tags in - it should be really easy to restrict the size that way but i dunno.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that's how I'm understanding it, because my server isn't giving up the dimensions information and that's why I can't post photos half the time to ILX.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a great pic of Ally C up there

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

it is - everyone looked so neat actually at the wedding!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The server doesn't hold the dimensions info as such, though, does it? Maybe your jpgs don't contain the right metadata.

it's kinda all done backwards (filesize should count foremost (ban anything over 1Mb??) and if it's too big dimensions size the software can always just stick a width and height tag in) but i didn't write the code :)

This sounds very sensible - it's the filesizes not the dimensions that have the greatest capacity to annoy, at least on dialup.

I like that pic a lot, g--ff. A lot of people think that a proper. beaming smile isn't their best look, but it always makes people look nice and attractive. You look great.

mike's post above is the photographic equivalent of his post to the 'how loud is your computer?' thread - technically accurate but utterly worthless 8)

my camera's been in my bag for the last 6 months and i think i've taken about 6 photos in that time (most were meant for mike's birthday but never got used). think the photos are down to about a pound each at the moment, given the cost of the camera and the number i've taken.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

my own attempts at recreating that same Spiritualized cover are on the 'pooter at home. i didn't have the advantage of a tripod though so they are a bit blurry and had trouble with getting the right distance - too close and the camera blocks out too much of the light (and, well, you can't really use the flash...)

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it's true. It's always the usual suspects posting pics, and nobody ever looks cringeworthy.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Roxy, if you look just two posts before you said that, you'll see the disproof of it.

Actually, I think there may be some truth in it, as a tendency, but we can't tell for sure unless we make pics mandatory, which obviously isn't going to happen.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oi Skidmore I thought I warned you about making comments about how unattractive you think you are so much. I doubt it makes you feel better. You know you're not too old to be administered a disciplinary spanking. Not from me tho, I'm not into that. But don't take it personally...

I have a brother, but that really doesn't work on here. However, his living in NYC really works for me (at least when he gets his apartment finished).

another weird weekend for the Jelster...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

What a lovely, intelligent face Kim has. I hope I'm not subconsciously prompted to say that by the specs. It reminds me of a thread I was going to start a long time ago - what do we mean when we say someone looks intelligent. What are the pointers? Maybe no one else says it. Let's just forget the whole thing.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

You only say that because I'm LOOKING AT YOU. (and the specs don't hurt)

Thanks very much though.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

An "intelligent face"? What the fuck does that mean?

Kim, I think you're quite beautiful. Great eyes.

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

An "intelligent face"? What the fuck does that mean?

I was hoping someone could tell me.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry if that came off as curt or fucked somehow. It's 2:50am and I really should be going to bed instead of posting.

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, get some sleep, Andrew.

Something in Kim's picture (and I really don't want to go on about this) suddenly made me think "sharp as a pin". It can't just be the specs. Good lord, my judgment must never again be trusted if it's just the specs. What else is there - the half-smile, the hair caressing the eyes, a little fierceness in the eye-to-lens contact.

I'm slightly bemused by my own reaction, is all.

Joseph Pot (STINKORâ„¢), Sunday, 22 August 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 22 August 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i think beyond the glasses, Kim has a re-assuring, even benevolent expression on this occasion that may support Mr Jones theory.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

This reminds me I'm due for new frames in a couple of weeks. Flexy or not, hmmm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

You are required to buy the standard issue emo ilx frames, it's in the new FAQ.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

this creepy thing is stupid. i find the whole guilt thing far more disturbing. there is nothing wrong with telling people they are attractive (or some other quality), especially when they've posted a picture of themselves up with surely SOME hope that they'll attract compliments. i suppose the problem is some people get it more than others and that can be disheartening for some but such is life. there's also the repetition thing - same people on these threads every time, it's like either 'OK you're hot, we get it!' - but i don't think anyone here is THAT ego-centric and it's good natured really.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i've actually been secretly waiting for that since i found ilx.
thank you andrew¡

dyson (dyson), Monday, 23 August 2004 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

fwiw, it was the facetiousness in combination with genuine responses that escalated it to the point of real discomfort. Michael Jones' original compliment was actually a very nice one (so he shouldn't feel bad). In any case, it's fine.

In other news, I have a somewhat bizarre photo for you of Mr Noodles reffing soccer yesterday, wherein it appears that he has developed the power to levitate the ball and stupify all the opponents.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 23 August 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Even though I hate football, that is a brilliant photo.

Coz it looks less like a football, and more like a bizarre UFO that Noodles has made apear by the power of his clenched fists like a manifestation of his rage!!!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Monday, 23 August 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I have seen a couple of Noodles' comments on the footie threads but I didn't know he was a ref!

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Monday, 23 August 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I kind of think of Ally's relatives in the same way as I think of Samantha's in Bewitched.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Believe it or not, I do actually have a shirt that is LOUDER than Ally's friend Luke's. The bright ORANGE AND FUSCHIA AND LIME GREEN killer paramecium shirt. Unfortunately, I do not know where it is any more - I hope that it's in storage at my mum's house, with all my other stage clothes from when I was in the 60s go-go band.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

This picture is ten years old, but you can just about see a turquoise and tan op art abomination which isn't actually nearly as loud as the killer paramecium paisley:

http://www.geocities.com/Paris/LeftBank/8466/oldme.jpg

(If that doesn't work, then go to this page:http://www.geocities.com/Paris/LeftBank/8466/mememe.html but don't read any of it, cause it's all over five years out of date.)

Your original attempt wasn't the address of an image file - it was the address of a whole page.

The photobucket one is password protected, I guess because you didn't use the address of the photo given for linking to, but just clicked on image properties when you were logged into your photobucket account. When you upload a photo to photobucket, make you use the url it gives you in the box underneath.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem I am seriously (seriously!) loving this Def Leppard lionmane do you've got going on now.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I am in awe. What a photo, what a pose.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Nabisco, I was wondering what it was about that picture that seemed so familiar and now I realize that it is the Def Leppard hair!

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

also you have that exact same sphynx in your backyard

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, she has the Powerslave one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That is seriously a fantastic picture.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Will someone please photoshop it into a "Mysteries of the Stevem" folk record or something? Better yet, some kind of 70s quasi-philosophical self-help LP. "A Rainbow for Your Inner Child, featuring Stevem."

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that at Cleopatra's Needle?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

no roxy it's Crystal Palace grounds, South London (Cleo's Needle is on the Thames riverside). I didn't know they had sphynx so was delighted to find them, as you can tell by my facial expression in the photo

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I want a pink SG!

cºzen (Cozen), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

God Steve you are fucking MAJESTIC and GLORIOUS there! I can't believe you're the same man I roffled at rolling in the leaves feaux-Coldplay stylee. You are my HERO.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a nice photo Steve, but I've seen better :P

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

That picture transcends all earthly notions of "good" and "bad", it would take large-brained extraterrestrials to even come close to defining or classifying it.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I am printing it and putting it in a time capsule as we speak.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Shame that this thread will be over in twelve hours.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it, but it makes him look like a lion.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see the shame in that. The lion is one of god's noblest creations. And a lion that makes mashups...well, that's like an ILXer's dream, surely.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it's OK to look like a lion. I was just saying.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose I shouldn't have said 'but'.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's OK to look like a lion"

--Alba, 2003

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's start calling him Simba!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"Simbam"

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

'Stevem's Pride'

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I probably said it last year, too.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It's one of those sayings you just live your life by. A fitting epitaph, perhaps?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"Here lies stevem. He looked like a lion, and everyone was okay with that"

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, wtf, is Stevem DEAD!?! Did we kill him with our criticisms of his BEST OF THE OUGHTIES POLL?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(fwiw I know he's not really dead)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry stevem this is getting a little morbid

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

How could you possibly know that, nickalicious?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

that's one of the englishest things i've ever seen.

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

COINCEDENCE?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Aldo, I find your shoes intriguing.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

They're Nike Air Rifts, in grey and yellow. The split toe is really comfortable and I love them as walking shoes. Plus, being some kind of stretchy mesh thing, you can chuck them in the washing machine if they start to smell (though a handful of extra pairs of tabi socks beyond the ones you get with it do wonders too).

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

can i harsh everybody's buzz and point out that the great stevem picture obviously wasn't taken by him?

Has no one else seen those adverts for AOL with the English bloke who goes on holiday in Mexico? Jeez! Where would I get a screenshot of that? Cause he is a DEAD RINGER for Dog Latin. It's quite freaky, really. Don't make me go looking on the AOL site or something...

hello everyone... i've been a lurker for a while now, but i gotta come out of the closet for this one. the guy in this ad is a friend of mine, ben. he's a welsh rapper and in a band called arkane... i can't get the top bit to go in italics like everyone else does. i don't really understand computers....

trixielixie, Sunday, 5 September 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

this.. is.. weird. i still haven't seen the advert. hi trixie!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 6 September 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

trixielixie, Monday, 6 September 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i go by many names, most of which are Twat.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 6 September 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and by the way, judging by the photos posted here, you don't really look like ben... which wouldn't be a bad thing anyway, coz he's cute as a button!! which isn't to say that you're not...

trixielixie, Monday, 6 September 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 6 September 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

A welsh rapper in a band called Arkane? I assume they have nothing to do with the wonderful A R Kane.
