Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:07 (twenty years ago)

soon it will be time to face the world outside

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:07 (twenty years ago)

I just had to make a 'phone call and I couldn't hear because of the guy downstairs singing again. AGH.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:07 (twenty years ago)

that thread filled up very quickly

gem (trisk), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:08 (twenty years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:11 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:12 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:18 (twenty years ago)

"white bean curd" b/c a week ago i made the mistake of ordering something slathered in the stuff a week ago ... it was like the preparer had some real bad allergies and sneezed/snotted all over the chicken!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:19 (twenty years ago)

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:25 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:28 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:28 (twenty years ago)

Phew, at least it doesn't mention GAY HOMOSEXUAL MUMS.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:28 (twenty years ago)

Argh, The Spine is excellent. That's the last time I ever rate an album before hearing it 20 times.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:29 (twenty years ago)

i think it is more likely to get stuck in your head than even the wombles song though

gem (trisk), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:38 (twenty years ago)

Haha nice xpost.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago)

hehe ok so obviously everyone realises i meant the playschool song rather than tmbg. although they have a tendency to stick as well.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:44 (twenty years ago)

I love good pop. Dammit, I need more.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 05:45 (twenty years ago)

gem its kind of like the original script, the great founding document of the mongrels...an Ur-text. Its where we came from.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 07:58 (twenty years ago)

Its basically where we started to ruin it for everyone else. The beginning of the downward slide for ILx.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 07:59 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys & gals!!

Hi Sheepfuxors.

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Mandee's here, and she's magnifique!

I think jim has a hidden talent as a scriptwriter for Aussie movies.

You know what I'd like? An Aussie tv comedy/drama about a young indie band in Melbourne. The excitement, the drugs, the falling in love... It could be called, 'Tugboat Daze'. I will appear in the orgy scene as the creepy guy from Sydney.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:30 (twenty years ago)

You're interesting.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:31 (twenty years ago)

Can I help write the script for that, Colin?

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:34 (twenty years ago)

You sure can Mandee!!!!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:41 (twenty years ago)

There has to be loads of indie boning in it.

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:41 (twenty years ago)

omg how can you be homosexual? you're female

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:42 (twenty years ago)

Indie boning backstage!!

Er, Adam, I want you to know, what happened on that other thread, it didn't mean anything...

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:43 (twenty years ago)

why are my eyes open?

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:46 (twenty years ago)

mine aren't

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:48 (twenty years ago)

wait.. are you asking me about my homosexuality>?

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:55 (twenty years ago)

i think everything's directed at me, it's sick.

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:57 (twenty years ago)

thats not necessarily because of you homosexuality though...is it?

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:59 (twenty years ago)

no, its because im an ATTENTION HOG!

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:06 (twenty years ago)

you've scared them all off! unbelieveable.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:11 (twenty years ago)

OK what in the fucking hell. I just checked my bank balance, this is the first normal pay after my yearly pay increase (last pay's had a back-payment so was a tiny bit more). I AM BEING PAID LESS THAN I WAS LAST MONTH BY ABOUT 100 BUCKS WTF.

I am very pissed off and now I am going to work to figure out what the glorious ghandi has happened. If I'm now in a tax bracket that means my "payrise" has actually lost me money I will start throwing chairs at PCs.

I wanted to buy a new PC today and I cant afford to. Theres other reasons, but they involve a certain someone who has not been paying me any rent or bills or paid me back for the shoes I bought him or last weeks grocieres and if I think about this anymore I will cry.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:14 (twenty years ago)

(being angry at ones partner is not a pleasant feeling. Ugh... later dudes)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:15 (twenty years ago)

1.hopefully a mistake.
2.ask his mum for some money.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:17 (twenty years ago)

Urgh, poor Trayce. You have our deepest.

I hope it's just a mistake.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:29 (twenty years ago)

i bought a new computer last night. now im supah skint!

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:44 (twenty years ago)

If I'm now in a tax bracket that means my "payrise" has actually lost me money I will start throwing chairs at PCs.

you're not still paying HECS are you? if not then this wouldn't happen.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:44 (twenty years ago)

Not 'arf as much as me. Jesus. It's comic book guy with the horn.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:49 (twenty years ago)

Why is erotic fiction always so perfect? Why not:

Dave teased Elijah's hardening cock. Elijah came instantly, said 'you're crap Dave,' and went for a number twos.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:55 (twenty years ago)

hahaha

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Dave wiped the smelly man juice from his eyebrow with his sleeve and picked his nose. I wonder where fucking Col has got to with the pizza he thought.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:57 (twenty years ago)

Col toyed with the shaft, gradually working his fingers toward the tip. Suddenly he felt a soft prick, and liquid began to flow. 'Oh good, you found my new pencil,' said Gaz. Col went downstairs for a Band-Aid.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 23:00 (twenty years ago)

haha its like the carry on thread!

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 September 2004 23:03 (twenty years ago)

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 23:27 (twenty years ago)

there's something very unsettling about the phrase "sweaty man juice"

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 September 2004 23:34 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of NSFW, I feel ill.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 September 2004 23:37 (twenty years ago)

Holy fuck, my PC just made the wackiest noise.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 24 September 2004 00:30 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 24 September 2004 00:39 (twenty years ago)

Yeah. Last week I caught it detaining unexpected files.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 24 September 2004 00:41 (twenty years ago)

And you know what it does? It segregates. I tried to open a .doc file in PSP and it refused.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 24 September 2004 00:41 (twenty years ago)

Heh.

OK I found out why the cun's arent paying me right... theyve been taking out a salary sacrifice the last two pays, for something I never fucking well bought. Bastards! What I had done, is diddle a salary sac for a mate I work with, he wanted an ipod.. but they knocked it back a month ago saying ipods dont qualify and TOOK THE MONEY OUT ANYWAY. I'm short over $300! Fuckers.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 24 September 2004 00:50 (twenty years ago)

FUCKERS.

ask for interest.

gaz (gaz), Friday, 24 September 2004 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Well, its pretax money so the irony is, if it had gone twards an actual item I would get all of it, but now if they give it to me as money it'll get taxed, haha :(

I hate this job. No wait - I like the job, I hate this company.

I'ma go to lunch now. I've had pay fuckups, I yelled at my Nick in email then felt like shit about it, and I have a headache.

dont you hate it when someone in your office is really sick and spluttering spit and cough all over everyone and not bothering to GO HOME and stop spreading their revolting germs about... and so you start to feel psychosomatically ill?

*feels icky*

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:15 (twenty years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:15 (twenty years ago)

I am around goddammit! It has however been a busy and full week.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:17 (twenty years ago)

Mikey - nah the plan was, he couldnt do it cos he'd already bought something this year, so I would do it, he'd pay me back the lot in cash up front, then it would come out of my pay. Suited me fine, but they rejected it anyway. Hahah. Oh well.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:20 (twenty years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:21 (twenty years ago)

Also the first episode of CSI New York.

You know it's going to be good when it opens with Gary Sinise crying in a church.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:22 (twenty years ago)

CSI... New York? Whatha?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:36 (twenty years ago)

oh yes, the new new spinoff of the original spinoff. whereas miami was bright, shot with orange filters and all campy and shit what with horatio 'i can't sleep until all crime is solved' kane, this one's very, very dark blue, very gothy, lots of gary sinise looking sad and brooding.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:39 (twenty years ago)

how the mighty have fallen. remember when sinise was a respected dramatician?

ex-jeremy (x Jeremy), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:44 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 24 September 2004 05:17 (twenty years ago)

So, Mark Kozolek is playing again tomoz night, should I go? I missed the other gig due to being sick...

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 24 September 2004 05:17 (twenty years ago)

jim + tired + bored = very whiney and extremely likely to piss off z which i'd rather avoid

how much is mark kozelek? i find it hard to be excited by him anymore..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 24 September 2004 05:19 (twenty years ago)

Not sure, under $30 tho I think. And he does requests. Brett said the last show was great, he did a lot of RHP songs.

I mean I'd like to go but at the same time, I'm not desperate you know?

Also, I totally cant recall where he was playing this time.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 24 September 2004 05:25 (twenty years ago)

Last night I watched a documentary about some German bloke who ate another bloke's penis. This morning I'm eating baked beans containing tiny sausages and not feeling very well.

haha, Adam, have you heard "Mein Teil" by Rammstein? It's a song ABOUT that German bloke! The chorus goes: "You are what you eat. And you're eating MY DICK!". Except auf Deutsch.

YOU'RE EATING MY DICK! GENIUS!

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:09 (twenty years ago)

hahaha!

Although funnily enough (I saw the doco too, not that I was in control of the remote ahem hem) they couldn't eat the dick as the "meat" was "too tough", and then the cannibal bloke burned it when he attempted to fry it!

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:19 (twenty years ago)

Well, thats a'cause it isnt meat, innit. Its all skin.

Erm. I don't feel well all of a sudden.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, so they had frazzled franger. Meanwhile wossname was upstairs bleeding in the bath, and the cannibal bloke went back down and read a Star Trek novel. A STAR TREK novel. I mean, eating crispy cock is one thing, but Star Trek books? Sick bastard should be locked up for life.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:26 (twenty years ago)

Stop making me laugh at my desk dude, people are staring at me ;(

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:28 (twenty years ago)

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:36 (twenty years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:55 (twenty years ago)

omg you're so random.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 27 September 2004 03:02 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, I'm seeing plenty of logic behind that!

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Monday, 27 September 2004 03:03 (twenty years ago)

Some sort of marinade may have helped soften then meat too. Something creamy.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 27 September 2004 03:06 (twenty years ago)

OK OK, no need to keep beating it up. Palm that one off elsewhere!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 03:14 (twenty years ago)

It's a touch on the savoury side, so ideally you'll want to add some grated cheese. I hear Dick Smith does an excellent vintage tasty.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 27 September 2004 03:15 (twenty years ago)

It could've been served with jackfruit.

surely it's the cartilage inside that causes the mastication difficulties, what he should have done was peeled it (rather like a banana, but keeping the 'skin', as opposed to the fruit, if you will)

darragh.mac (darragh.mac), Monday, 27 September 2004 03:22 (twenty years ago)

Cartilage? Good heavens! I had no idea. Is this correct?

OMG gaz what is that cofee machine? We had one of those in my group house in canberra... Leon found it at a jumble sale, and we didnt know how to use it. COuldnt work out where the water went haha!

I have a ton of espresso machines, I kind of collect them. Adam, espresso be better than plunger.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:44 (twenty years ago)

ie, its stronger that way. And theres something very calming about the morning ritual of cleaning the 'spresso machine, filling it with water and grinds, screwing the top back on, and then popping it on the stove.

http://www.orsir.com.tw/pr/00020s.jpg

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:47 (twenty years ago)

its very simple trayce. you put the coffee in the little filter thing inside the black handle at front top. you put the water in the hole after you have unscrewed the knob on the back. you put it on the stove (with the little bowl to catch the coffee which is not shown)

also mine has a wee pipe coming out of it which one uses to froth/heat le milk.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:49 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I saw one of those last week! I wondered what it was...

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:52 (twenty years ago)

I am kicking myself Leon found one and didnt know how to use it... I should have taken it off his hands but I didnt know about the wonders of espresso back then. It was thanks to an Italian b/f and his family I learnt how to make strong short macchiatos, and enjoy them with figs after dinner (and then rush off to the loo with the squits from all the overload).

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 00:01 (twenty years ago)

Instant? I dont think so, never seen any. Illy and Lavazza are wayyy to pricey. There are other italian brands-inna-brick just as good, like Motta and Coffex. Though buying a specially-blended fresh grind from Coffee House (or wtf that place is called) is the best mmmm. And cheaper.

Instant coffee is satan's wee.

No, My Leige. For on that day when you opened my Arabica eye, the world changed before my eyes. It was as if a veil was removed from my tastebuds; and a stopper removed from my bowels.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 00:59 (twenty years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 01:03 (twenty years ago)

yep
I expected so

The first atomic was launched in 1956

As Italians are not a big milk drinking race as none of their milk was pasteurised or homogenised so they had to steam/boil it to be able to drink it, they preferred the coffee(smart hey, I wish the rest of the world would follow)

steam wands were attached to the machine late 50's-early 60's
the one that you linked above is a rarer one as it is an early one

At one stage I owned 14 different coloured atomics

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 01:11 (twenty years ago)

For on that day when you opened my Arabica eye

I have one 6 cup Vev Vigano stainless steel, which has a 3-cup divider insert in the basket (apparently this is now kinda rare), which I use every day so its all blackened. I have a 1-cup and a 3 cup aluminium jobbie (those ones arent so good they make the coffee taste funny), and I have a cute little 1-cup red painted machine with a spout instead of a pot; you put the espresso cup on the ledge and the coffee trickes into it, I love that one. But it got ruined by a stoner flatmate who left it on the flame and it caught fire *grumble*.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 01:27 (twenty years ago)

I want an atomic, now, and I want a decent stainless 1 cup machine, tho I dont really drink shorts anymore - I make a 3 cup lot and have a whole mugful! *twitches*

Some people should be....in international court for unspeakable crimes against coffee..

I guess that is why people say it is undrinkable..
Gaz ... your machine is off
There are two places in sydney
Cafe Biancci in Leichardt market place
the other is at the top of oxford street in paddington
called Bon trading company
they stock spares for you atomic
e.g rubbers and screens

for cleaning it there is a special espresso cleaning detergent that you can find at cafe biancci, i would soak the metal part of the handle in a small bucket of boiling hot water and 2 tblspoons of the cleaning detergent.

i would also get a toothbrush and scrub the grp head..

a thought ..
go to you local cafe and ask them if you can buy 100 g of their espresso machine cleaner

if your machine is that old the rubbers are gone
you will not get the right pressure in the extraction to gain a good
coffee..

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 01:37 (twenty years ago)

it adds flavour to keep it unwashed
-- the surface noise (slight return)

right
you are also fined for crimes against the bean..

that dirtyness that covers the inside does not add flavour
it is rancid oil lipids!
Ever wondered why coffee tastes bitter

well roasters don't make bitter blends, but cafes and people do not clean their equipment grinder/machine enought

dirty equipment = rancid/off bitter coffee

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 01:41 (twenty years ago)

These are great Vev Vigano make some great designs
I could not recomend enough to you to invest in a small grinder,
buy beans and grind them before you brew.

BTW
Some of the brick packs you mentioned before.......

KEEP AWAY!
As you said .....buy fresh !

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 01:47 (twenty years ago)

I have a grinder too! I confess, I rarely use it tho, as my morning grumpiness doth not lend itself to the horrible loud CHHHZSSHHSHHS of the darn machine.

espresso speaks the truth about cleaning these machines too: indeed, bitterness is caused by not cleaning them out. Admittedly tho, I thought gaz meant he had only not cleaned the water tank? I mean that you could probably get away with... but the basket/rubbers/pot? MUST BE CLEANED! I go thru a rubber seal abt every ahh... six-12 months maybe? And I use my pot daily.

I know brick coffee isnt the best but hey, at least I dont drink Vittoria *shudder* that stuff is as much satans wee as instant is :/

Now espressofetish is about to pull out one of his huge favours for which he is internationally renowned. He loves the sacred coffee, and just wants to spread his joy around. So to speak.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 02:48 (twenty years ago)

i am now picturing col and espresso dressed in white coats squinting at a bunsen burner and an evil looking black liquid and cackling hysterically.

Tell the nice people.....

I am reading all this 'I am a vampire' stuff at the moment and now I'm starting to wonder, would I like the taste of blood? I think I would like to drink some and find out. Maybe it would cure my arthritis!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 02:56 (twenty years ago)

(i'm central coast espresso. coffee wilderness. i just never get to go to the city anymore, much less leichhardt).

col...have you seen Janne? I think he was interested in that too. Sami was trying to contact him I think.

Argh now I want chocolate.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Blood is of course chosen by the frozen of heart as the true warming drink. Without it one is growing weak. But after glass of blood, is one so to speak feeling hale and hearty, with warmth, almost like ordinary being.

It not have koodies that harm our kind, as we are of course immortal. Yet often I find I leave ring of blood around mouth, like a variety of blood moustache, hihi! My girlfriend Annika, she is prone to say, 'You have blood moustache, mister, like child with milk!' Then she pass out briefly.

Janne Karlsson, Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:21 (twenty years ago)

BTW gaz: http://www.coffeecompany.com.au/ does online ordering. I can recommend them strongly - they are a 10 min walk from my place, in my local shops, and the guys who run it know a LOT abt the king of beans. Also, they have a window chockers full of so many coffee machines and jugs and pots, I want to own them all. Like little caffienated pokemons.

And Hot Dollar Gift, with all them playing cards depicting men with enormous stiffies.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:34 (twenty years ago)

I beg your pardon?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:34 (twenty years ago)

There's a two-dollar shop run by Asians, who clearly have no idea that (a) raging hard-ons are rude, and (b) displaying them on your shop counter is culturally left-of-centre.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:36 (twenty years ago)

Not that I'm offended by the sight of the odd plank, but some people become wounded by such things somehow.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:36 (twenty years ago)

Same people who run around the house screaming LALALALALALALALANOTLISTENINGNOTLISTENINGNOTLISTENINGLALALALALA whenever someone on telly says a naughty word, for fear it'll blow their heads off and corrupt the kiddies.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Hah speaking of lalalanotlistening, heard all the hoo-har people have made about those chicks lezzing up on Neighbours? It was a silly teen girl pash ffs, all girls try that.

Some xian group however said that kind of "high risk behaviour" should not be shown on tv. What in the? "high risk"??!??

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:40 (twenty years ago)

'Er indoors said the whole thing is being handled really well, i.e. the coming-out girl is getting positive reactions from the characters she comes out to.

I think the wowsers want this character to be told she's not normal and to stop having dirty thoughts because she'll automatically catch AIDS and die because it's a gay disease and she deserves it for not being pure. Fucking knob jockeys.

Or a narrow-minded fundamentalist fuck who can't mind her own fucking business.

Sorry.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:53 (twenty years ago)

i wonder what the prevalence of AIDS in the aussie gay community actually is? i.e. in real life not in the warped minds of scary fundamentalists. would it be similar to the injecting drug users? interestingly i was talking to a chap who is a prison counsellor on the weekend and he told me that of the 350 odd prisoners he has had interviews with this year, only one has been HIV positive. that says good stuff for aussie harm prevention i think. although sadly hep c is rife.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:54 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, hep C seems to be more of a danger atm.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:56 (twenty years ago)

i think it is ongoing, i was counselling in 2002 and it was pretty much in epidemic proportions in the IV using community in perth even then. much more easily transmissible than HIV though.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:59 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Neighbours is cripplingly conservative though isn't it? It hurts the brain just to imagine living in such an environment.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:04 (twenty years ago)

no no gem, i'm seeing it now. i'm taking it none of your neighbours would talk to each other either?

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:05 (twenty years ago)

my neighbours are lesbians. i never talk to them, but that's mostly because they're fucking irritating.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:06 (twenty years ago)

Hah. Don't start me on the unchanging bogan existence. I'm related to people that live right near where Neighbours is set, and they really are a waste of space.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:06 (twenty years ago)

one thing that annoys me on those soapies is the characters who've been around for ages (i.e. since childhood) always getting married so young. which i suppose is just because they run out of storylines after they leave school and get a job in the diner/coffeeshop. it is awfully conservative though! normal people merely shack up don't they!

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:06 (twenty years ago)

ok gaz now i'm imagining neighbours set in balga or some other disadvantaged suburb and populated by lots of my former clients! everyone is wearing a tracksuit! and they do talk to each other but only about the dole and trying to get off methadone.

"I say old bean!" he calls, frowning. "Take it easy...you'll stunt your growth!"

Inside the darkened room Colin frowns and twists his baseball cap so the peak is at the back. Using just a penlight he studies again the knobs and dials of his new Roland.

I have surfaced! Or suffered. Or slacked off, or Simmed or something.

Mandee: so, its true - the men can have babies! I havent even tried for sprog yet - I have a lovely bookish young lad who looks like he should be a member of Ride or something, and he's just hooked up with Bianca the desperate wifey type, which was my ploy to lure her away from her friend Oberon, whom she had stolen from his fiancee (which I did totally by accident I swear). Its all becoming rather the soapie!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 23:06 (twenty years ago)

thou have simmed

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 23:22 (twenty years ago)

man that new simpsons episode last night was rotten

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 23:25 (twenty years ago)

It was a bit, wasnt it? It has SO many inconsistencies in it, for one thing - the most glaring one being Milhouse saying "my first kiss!" when he kissed homer. WTF!? There was that whole episode about his girlfriend who got sent to girls school!

One subtle joke (if thats what it was) I did like was Homers thing about his pen pal "I'll write you back one day, Osama". Hahaha. But yeah the whole storyline was on really wobbly ground consistency wise.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 23:44 (twenty years ago)

And , it was a bit daft.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 23:44 (twenty years ago)

yeah. i liked the "row vs wade, and it's my choice!" thing but it was the most clever thing in the episode, and it just isn't that clever.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:07 (twenty years ago)

And I really should have that Futurama party, shouldnt I?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:07 (twenty years ago)

Yesterday I had to go and do a Personal Assistant course which I got signed up for, and the woman running the course came in and slagged off the colour of the offices, before offering hints on redecorating! It was wacky.

I'm listening to that Miles Davis Complete Jack Johnson Sessions. It rules.

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:22 (twenty years ago)

maybe that's an essential component of a personal assistant course. i did an office admin course at tafe a few years ago and the lady went on and on and on about what sort of magazines should be kept/made available in reception.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:23 (twenty years ago)

So they TRAIN people to put 15 year old copies of New Idea on little tables!?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:24 (twenty years ago)

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:26 (twenty years ago)

'famous celibate'

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:31 (twenty years ago)

it's all about the type of "business" you're working in (she referred to every type of organisation as "working in business"). old new ideas are for doctor's surgeries etc (because only ladies frequent those) and old national geographics and business review weeklies are for gentlemen in errrr other types of offices.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:35 (twenty years ago)

and old playboys are for sperm donor clinics.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:38 (twenty years ago)

sorry

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:38 (twenty years ago)

she didn't mention that one actually. i'm sure she was thinking it though.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:38 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:55 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:56 (twenty years ago)

He did? *goes to look*

The thread is boring as batshit anyway, I mean I can understand this one being chatty, we have other threads in which to dicsuss things - if thats their only thread why arent they talking bands?

Oh wait, what am I thinking.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 01:42 (twenty years ago)

Hang on, wheres it gone?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 01:44 (twenty years ago)

He deleted it! hahaha...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 01:45 (twenty years ago)

he moved it to the aja dante board.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 01:49 (twenty years ago)

i made a band post to it! it was my moment of glory! then when i clicked on new answers it moved me to aja/dante, i was bewildered for a minute

gem (trisk), Thursday, 30 September 2004 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 30 September 2004 04:14 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 30 September 2004 04:28 (twenty years ago)

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 04:29 (twenty years ago)

i wish i had one of those whitlam cottages.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 04:30 (twenty years ago)

Geez I wont have time for shopping or nowt. I'll fly in in the morning, taxi direct to the office, spend all day training/boring people in What I Do, then back to the hotel for dinner/booze/sleep and catch a flight the next morning (if not that night, even) and right back to work.

I'm thinking a hotel room boozeup could be amusing tho.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 04:59 (twenty years ago)

Not that I'm sure whre I'll be staying but its either Rydges, the Rad, or some other place. 4 something?

From Glebe to Painters & Dockers in three posts. Interesting segue.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 30 September 2004 05:28 (twenty years ago)

Oh god that just reminded me of a hilarious memory... two very obviously over-posh young private school lasses, busking with a guitar somewhere (Canberra I think?), singing in rather choirgirl-nice voices, "Die Yuppie Die" by the Dockers.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 05:42 (twenty years ago)

You're right about that coffee shop Trayce, I went there today and it awesome.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 30 September 2004 06:05 (twenty years ago)

Innit great? :) Must pop in on the weekend, I need some fresh grinds. And possibly a new machine too, the old one's getting awfully blackened and sad looking.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 06:19 (twenty years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 30 September 2004 10:44 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 30 September 2004 21:24 (twenty years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 30 September 2004 21:25 (twenty years ago)

fuckin hell this child porn thing is heavy

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 21:33 (twenty years ago)

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 21:46 (twenty years ago)

perhaps 'heavy' wasn't the best word under the circumstances :)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Argh, the money goes in tonight. Thank christ. I did not fancy another week of living solely on baked beans and toast.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 30 September 2004 22:33 (twenty years ago)

By package dyou mean your payout, then?

How come such a gap between ytou leaving and the money going in? Blimey I hope they dont do that to me.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 30 September 2004 23:38 (twenty years ago)

I am also strange. True.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 1 October 2004 01:09 (twenty years ago)

I dont mind my size to be honest, its just I was always ridiculously skinny (like, 45kg and a size 8-10) which I kind of hated cos I had no boobs or arse.

Now, I have boobs and arse but I also have a gut, and my metabolism seems to be slowing at a rate of knots as I age, and I'm really feeling old and blobby. Ive started buying low fat dairy products FFS and am thinking of buying an exercise bike. Gah!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 1 October 2004 01:11 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:23 (twenty years ago)

we hate it when our friends become etc.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:29 (twenty years ago)

not so much the success as "bye bye bandmate". the boat have gone from being low priority to no priority.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:33 (twenty years ago)

That's sad, I'm sorry.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:37 (twenty years ago)

it is sad. i feel quite lost really.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:40 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:45 (twenty years ago)

it'll be okay. it's not all over. just crippled.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:47 (twenty years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:56 (twenty years ago)

i shoulda been an artist

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:57 (twenty years ago)

a HUGE fucking branch came down in our garden. HUGE. woulda killed someone. no damage i can see. it fell inches from the verandah. its stormy wet here.

and we had to have the drains unblocked. fucking plumber's bill.

and i'm drinking tooheys new

just thought i'd make you whingers feel better about your lot!

haha andrew what ARE you doing?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:17 (twenty years ago)

and we had to have the drains unblocked. fucking plumber's bill.

i've been procrastinating on doing this. it's only one sink but it's a drag nonetheless...

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:23 (twenty years ago)

it was only $130 i guess. not that i have $130. it was the kitchen sink. i took it apart, stuck a huge long thing down it (not my own, i don't have one - the neighbours!) and no joy. at least it wasn't tree roots in there.

on more important topics...its only a DRUMMER jim! ;)

:(

gaz (gaz), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:27 (twenty years ago)

yikes.

yeah the drummer thing will sort out. i was listening to our demo again before to remind myself why i bother and by fuck it's good.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:29 (twenty years ago)

why don't you write some station ids for me?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:32 (twenty years ago)

theres always been a generic world music element to what we do

gaz (gaz), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:32 (twenty years ago)

haha okay, what does it involve?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:33 (twenty years ago)

i think there's a 'dead can dance' button in fruityloops somewhere

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:33 (twenty years ago)

it amuses me to think of that band's name as the movements you make when you're trying to regain feeling in your backside after sitting on a hard surface for too long

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:34 (twenty years ago)

or send the demo with pig's arse - i'd love to hear it!

(it involves me telling people i have a grrrrrrrrrrrreat new bit of punchy dynamic music the mechanicals of which we don't need to worry about...still report to a*p*r*a though. if i was a muso i'd do it meself!))

gaz (gaz), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:35 (twenty years ago)

ok!

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:41 (twenty years ago)

ok!

(fuck i'm pissed already)

gaz (gaz), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:43 (twenty years ago)

Pissed! Sounds good

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:53 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 1 October 2004 09:12 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 1 October 2004 09:15 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 1 October 2004 09:15 (twenty years ago)

Who's at home tonight?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:20 (twenty years ago)

how. many. hours. trayce?

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:21 (twenty years ago)

my hangover is gone (obv) the visitors gone for a couple of hours due to return any minute.

who's watching the grandfinal?

hopeless ocker throwback (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:23 (twenty years ago)

there's a grand final? In what?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:24 (twenty years ago)

i am at home at the moment but i'm going out to see bandz later, including someone who i may ask to work with me..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:24 (twenty years ago)

a new drummer even?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:25 (twenty years ago)

a new drummmer!!??? you're going poaching?

col: rugby league. 7.30. rooster vs bulldogs. me and the boy are gonna watch it i think. i have tooheys new left.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:25 (twenty years ago)

no not a drummer, but he knows how to program a rhythm device in an indie stylee

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:26 (twenty years ago)

any future projects will be quite different to current stuff

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:27 (twenty years ago)

Aha!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:27 (twenty years ago)

program a rhythm device in an indie stylee

i have the fear!

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:29 (twenty years ago)

Fear not, gaz, for this is not a tall order by any means. Just remember what was achieved with M-Squared; and consider jim's wide musical knowledge and innate sense of taste. It could work.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:31 (twenty years ago)

it is not jim i am worried about!

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:33 (twenty years ago)

You are worried about the drum machine?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:34 (twenty years ago)

more info please jim!!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:37 (twenty years ago)

its the troggs like scenario where jim is saying "pro-grAm it loik thart!" and the poached guy is going " Oi wasss. Oi wasss."

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:37 (twenty years ago)

I _still_ haven't heard the Troggs tape.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:39 (twenty years ago)

loser

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:39 (twenty years ago)

It's one thing to look forward to. Is there a transcript on the web?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:46 (twenty years ago)

you need to hear it.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:47 (twenty years ago)

they're ba-a-ack. apparently they got lost returning and were ringing but SOME loser was on the 'net.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:49 (twenty years ago)

That's a familiar one, haha.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:51 (twenty years ago)

you're doing whaaaat? they asked.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:53 (twenty years ago)

its a message board about k*dd*e pron i said.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 07:54 (twenty years ago)

And you must now join them, and bid your virtual friends goodbye?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 08:01 (twenty years ago)

fuck it. still, footy in 15 mins

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 3 October 2004 08:11 (twenty years ago)

ah monday.

does anyone here know how to program a rhythm device in an indie stylee?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 3 October 2004 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Yes.

Wait, no.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 3 October 2004 22:59 (twenty years ago)

Me! Not. Well. I have a drum machine, and I kind of know how to use it, and I play with FruityLoops sometimes.

I did the drum pattern for "Take 5" by Northside once. Dont ask. No really, dont. Its embarrasing.

Hullo fackers. Should I have this Futurama/Simpsons mazzathon this weekend seeing as it is also Nick's birthday? Could be a good excuse fer a double party, if people is free.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Aha, I can't do this weekend either.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:06 (twenty years ago)

You lot must think I'm the biggest shut-in.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:07 (twenty years ago)

Actually we decided we're convinced we will never meet you, and you're avoiding us cos we're internet mentalists or sommat.

:(

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:07 (twenty years ago)

What happened to your "you wait til summer I'll fap you til you dont know what" declaration, anyhoo? ;P

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:08 (twenty years ago)

you're avoiding us cos we're internet mentalists or sommat.

But Adam is an internet mentalist!!

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:41 (twenty years ago)

He's avoided you ever since Trayce became Spamspanker.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:44 (twenty years ago)

colin will you make beats for me?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:49 (twenty years ago)

jim, I would imagine the trick to indie programming is simplicity and not too much quantisation (x-post)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:50 (twenty years ago)

it's true. that, and copying other people's rhythms

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:51 (twenty years ago)

indie programmed beats = 808 doing the "Be My Baby" intro for three minutes.

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:56 (twenty years ago)

I'd be delighted to, but how can we coordinate, me being in Syd and all?

My intuition on this is, you have the aesthetic to achieve this yourself. After all you understand the aesthetic and you know what you want. The rest is technicalities.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:58 (twenty years ago)

true. i just need more patience with beats. i tend to be very impatient when it comes to the rhythm side of things.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:04 (twenty years ago)

What happened to your "you wait til summer I'll fap you til you dont know what" declaration, anyhoo? ;P

Based on the information available to me, quanitified aainst past experience and with a reserved projection toward the end of the 2004/05 financial year, my reasoned summary is thus: IT'S NOT SUMMER YET

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:06 (twenty years ago)

Plus I've got my last enormous assignment due next Monday, and I'll spend the weekend finishing it and attending my sk8-0rZ lesson.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:07 (twenty years ago)

I feel mightily sick. And I can't finish the assignment for tonight because the lecturer won't give us the information we need until tomorrow.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:08 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I just found it. Phew.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:12 (twenty years ago)

jim, set up a simple rhythm and leave it - or have one drum fill that you use over and over. Being impatient with rhythm, making things too simple cos you can't be arsed = exactly the indie aesthetic, so how can you lose? It's in you!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:18 (twenty years ago)

gulp

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:19 (twenty years ago)

Ah righto Ads - I didnae realise you still had uni arse to be doing. That toads the wet sprocket.

God today will be boring. The sydney team replacing us are on labor day holiday today, so no work's come to us, and I dont really have much work as it is what with less than 2 months to go. So I'm sat here twiddling me wotsits.

Should start thinking about nanowrimo, I guess. ARGH.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:33 (twenty years ago)

BTW Jim did you wanna borrow my Dr Rhythm? Or have you a drum machine already?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:33 (twenty years ago)

So I'm sat here twiddling me wotsits.

Pics?

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:34 (twenty years ago)

Bah I knew that'd be misread ;P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:35 (twenty years ago)

Misread? What was the alternative reading?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:39 (twenty years ago)

I was talking about those new Twisties, geez man!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:40 (twenty years ago)

i do have a drum machine but i might try sampling some sounds of mah own and use fruityloops..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:45 (twenty years ago)

Good eye deer.

I'm considering buying a kbd of some sort so I can tool about with Fruity/Cubase/some other tracker myself, it would be much easier to write stuff if I had a half decent weighted-key yamaha midi device or something. Ive no idea on whats what with those kind of keys, I could just wander into Manny's or somewhere and ask I spose.

Ive probably forgotten everything about playing keys anyhow.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:53 (twenty years ago)

Enough assignment. I'm going out to look for Smile.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 4 October 2004 01:18 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of, did you see the chunky bloke murder "God only Knows" on Idol last night? For shame.

Not that I uhh.. watched it, or nothin. I only saw the end. That last guy shat on everyone, he was good.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 4 October 2004 01:20 (twenty years ago)

I saw that! It was not good.

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Monday, 4 October 2004 01:32 (twenty years ago)

Hayden (Pow, Pow, Pow) (haitch), Monday, 4 October 2004 01:33 (twenty years ago)

In the poor guys defence tho I think he was hoping on backing vocals, as they were all told no BVs, but hey, if they cant hold a song on their own they shouldnt pick it.

OMG I'm talking about Aust Idol.

Who is the largeish gothy gal who did George last night? She got a bit of a standing ovation etc... I missed her bit but the replay she looked pretty good in too. some of the others were startlingly ordinary considering how far in the show is now.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 4 October 2004 03:48 (twenty years ago)

a good plan.

tonight the fate of the boat is decided. it really could go either way, but regardless of what happens i'm branching out into new and crazy territories featuring indie beatz and heavily delayed arpeggiated guitars

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:25 (twenty years ago)

hello col

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:26 (twenty years ago)

I am bored. I am eating baked beans. I am avoiding going to the gym for some reason. I am avoiding working on my resume. I am looking outside and having second thoughts about doing any work at all today.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Its a hard life for some ;)

I'm sure I'll get bored with my enforced hols too, pretty fast :( I'll have to force a routine of still getting up early and working at the computer every day, else I'll get into a rut.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, you have to really make yourself get up early. I've fallen into a pattern of getting up at 8, which sucks because normally I'm up around 6:30-7 for the gym. Which, incidentally, I don't have the energy for atm because I've had mentalist foot pain for weeks.

THIS close to strapping on my skates.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:35 (twenty years ago)

have a wank

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:38 (twenty years ago)

I ALREADY SAID MY FEET HURT.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:39 (twenty years ago)

And now my coffee plunger is covered in tzatziki. I was just getting the hang of it too.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:44 (twenty years ago)

oo-er, missus!

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Um... why is your coffee plunger covered in tatziki? Methinks you really aren't getting the hang of it, yet.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Bahahaha.

Last night's souvlaki strayed across the kitchen a bit.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 00:46 (twenty years ago)

Hey Trayce, where do we vote? I can't find any information anywhere. Is it at that Free Kindergarten in Nelson St?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:31 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm. I think we need to way 3-4 more years for it to be truly shameless. It will happen, you know. And there will even be a compilation with 2 lame new tracks at the end. I give you my word.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:41 (twenty years ago)

and a stunning new direction. black metal pop techno.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:43 (twenty years ago)

Having seen Johns be a dickhead on Rove &c., I couldn't bring myself to buy the album, despite Diorama being excellent.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:44 (twenty years ago)

Björk's the current trendsetter for avant-garde now, isn't she? Johns could make an album composed entirely of the sound of his voice. Just like all the interviews he does.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:45 (twenty years ago)

i'd like to see him make a record with the ted mulry gang

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:48 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:50 (twenty years ago)

i doubt Johns would notice.

They were better, TMG, than they're given credit for.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 01:55 (twenty years ago)

Do you know what TMG stands for?

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 02:05 (twenty years ago)

Hey Trayce, where do we vote?

From what I can gather, we can vote at that Uniting Church hall wots on Inkerman st near the Hotham St intersection. I could almost lean out my window and cast a vote, haha.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 02:05 (twenty years ago)

yes and yes. I'm humming 'Jump in my Car' right now. And after lunch I might just hum a few bars of 'Blue Jeans'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 02:05 (twenty years ago)

Ah thanks Trayce. I'm about to walk past that church, I might slip my vote under the door.

Working at the AEC for the last 6 weeks has been quite cool. The son of a friend of mine is running for the Citizens Electoral Council in Melbourne, I just found out.

That said, I JUST WANT IT TO BE OVER NOW. Except Canberrans have to vote again on the sodding 16th.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 05:33 (twenty years ago)

i am like you edward as i work as policy officer to state pollies in WA. although maybe not as bad. but we will have another election shortly afterwards, if labor wins straight away i should think but even if the coalition win it will be early 2005. if i never have to read another election policy or listen to another pollie burning my ear off on the phone IT WILL BE TOO SOON.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago)

Shaddup Gaz.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 7 October 2004 00:06 (twenty years ago)

I already asked for tomorrow off.. and I got it! Wahoo! I havent had any holidays in forever, mind.

So, today I have to buy stuff at lunchtime, then buy more stuff (cleaning products and Nicks birthday presents) after work, then go home and clean up the house for the inspection Friday morning, then get up early friday morning to do brekky in bed for Nick and keep cleaning for the agents turning up at 9am... then do stuff for friday nights dinner... argh.

Also, we are having a small party/hang around watching DVDs nite for nick on Saturday night if anyone wants to pop by. Nothin' fancy. All welcome, etc.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:01 (twenty years ago)

We've not been inspected yet. 16 months and counting.

I hope they don't come inspecting because the place is a mess.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:02 (twenty years ago)

Yeah sos mine.. Ive been there over 4 years and the carpet is ruinatored - it's never had a steam clean :/ Also, some of the blinds are FUCKERED thanks to a cat who went thru a phase of "hey, lets eat the blinds!" and chewed them up.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Ugh.

Our blinds are wooden venetian things, and they're all good except one, which I accidentally broke when I opened the window, and the shaft from the lock smashed into the slat and broke it.

Um, that sentence could probably be half the size. Oh well.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:15 (twenty years ago)

record company 'x' have said they'll put it out if album 'y' is remixed by owner of 'x'. however this involves it being remixed in the same studio it was recorded in, with the assistance of the guy 'z' who mixed it in the first place, who may take the request to remix as a personal slight. hmmmmmm...

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:43 (twenty years ago)

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:46 (twenty years ago)

-- the surface noise

That need not be a problem. Tell 'z' the truth about the situation. Then ensure he gets a co-mixing credit.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:08 (twenty years ago)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

And now I've fucked it up by de-Googleproofing your work. Sorry.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:10 (twenty years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:10 (twenty years ago)

yeah but obv that means he's gonna have to remix the album with someone who thinks his work on the original mix is not good.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:10 (twenty years ago)

i am not getting xpost messages here for some reason.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:11 (twenty years ago)

That need not be a problem. Tell 'z' the truth about the situation. Then ensure he gets a co-mixing credit.

done and done. i mean, 'z' recorded the whole thing and helped produce too so his name will be all over it.

yeah but obv that means he's gonna have to remix the album with someone who thinks his work on the original mix is not good.

yes and no. the original mixes are fine, but the label guy has a very different aesthetic. basically what i think will happen is that it will be made to sound more like our first record. dirtier, more heavily reverbed.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:14 (twenty years ago)

Complete honesty with all concerned all the way jim - esp as regards your honest appreciation of the original mixes - and any tension will be instantly defused. This is how records are made, compromises all the way with numerous people. Everyone's ego gets a bit of a buffeting. That's art. Everyone sees fit to give (conflicting) opinions about the quality of your music, jim, so why should you protect the mix engineer? If you like what s/he did, say so - but also point out you want the record released with the label so you are prepared to compromise in the interests of moving things along, and see what the result is.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:21 (twenty years ago)

It's normal and desireabl;e for someone other than the producer to mix a record btw.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:21 (twenty years ago)

(what do you think is the best sound for the record jim...? the orig mix?)

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 7 October 2004 03:32 (twenty years ago)

i suspect that i will probably prefer the later mix, but that's because i feel the record is too clean and dry as it is.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 7 October 2004 03:38 (twenty years ago)

Inspection was fine! The new property manager is this ditzy blonde thing who talked 100 miles an hour, I mean I cleaned the place up good but you know, I'm no neat freak. So I pointed out the bathroom mould like its not my fault - cos like, it isn't, we have no exhaust fan - and made jokes about the grindy monster pipe noises... and it were all good.

Then I went to the shops and got food, and I made some roasted capsicum and grilled eggplant... and then watched telly.

I do love days off.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 8 October 2004 03:16 (twenty years ago)

Complain to the AEC about it Adam! We love complaints!
Vote nicely, children.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 8 October 2004 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Right. I voted. House of Reps: Democrats, Labor, Greens, Citizens Electoral Council, Liberal. I know someone running for the CEC in Melbourne, so I felt that even if they are weird, at least they're not the Liberals.

Senate: Numbered all 13 boxes. This is probably a trying task if you don't live in one of the Territories. This went: Democrats 1 and 2, then Labor's first candidate at 3, then Greens 4 and 5, Australian Progressive Alliance 6 and 7, Labor's second candidate at 8, an Independant at 9, the Liberals at 10 and 11, and the Fred Nile group 12 and 13.

And I said to the woman handing out Lib HTV cards: "I can fill out my OWN preferences unlike your drones.". She clearly had no idea that I was making a comment about how stupid HTV cards are and replied "Good on you!" enthusiastically.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 8 October 2004 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Saturday, 9 October 2004 03:29 (twenty years ago)

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 10 October 2004 21:40 (twenty years ago)

You know, I'm actually a bit sick of the reaction of all my friends over this. Oh my, the Liberals won? YOU DIDNT SEE THAT COMING? Seriously, some of my friends have lefty rose tinted specs, they really do.

My mother told me she was most pleased the libs won. I wish I had enough knowlegde to be able to sit her and dad down, and ask them WHY they honestly thought a lib vote was the right thing to do; not just "because we believe hard work should be rewarded by wealth" and "I'm not a socialist" (yes, my mother said that when I mentioned redistribution of wealth away from wealthy private schools! And she sent me to one of the shittiest state schools in NSW! The nerve). I really want to point out the things I think they missed - the fact interest rates are NOT CONTROLLED BY THE GOVT, the deceptions over immigration/refugees, the war, employment, Telstra.

But I dont think I could, and she really wouldnt care. She said something like "you're like your father, you always stick your heels in and want to tell the other person they're wrong" (I dont bother actually, but she had a point). Well, mum, thats fine - but whats the alternative, you keep on voting Liberal, no matter what they do? Fine, come and tell me you still feel that way when its all Orwellian on our asses.

Despite that which I just ranted I'm seriously over politics, and VERY sick of hearing people throw hissys and say "I'm moving to Canada/NZ/etc". Fuck off to Canada then, you dont deserve to stay in a country you wont fight for (morally, not literally)/believe in.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 10 October 2004 21:48 (twenty years ago)

Labour did a pathetic job, mind you.

And when you look at someone like Garrett and how much he was ready to compromise his long standing ideals "because thats the party line", THEN you begin to understand how politics works. And know you really cant beat it. Not fully.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 10 October 2004 21:49 (twenty years ago)

Main problems with Labor's campaign:

1. The ridiculous 'Australians are ready' ads. People saw those and thought, 'hmm, there must be some doubt then,' and voted Nazi.

2. Latham has a sardonic attitude, but he and the party suppressed it. The party decided to be NICE all through the campaign, and obv it didn't work.

Now, we just sit back and wait for Howard to ban the following:

- being gay
- breathing
- peace
- the ABC
- hospitals
- education
- living in the '60s or later
- not loving Bush with a disturbing passion

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 10 October 2004 21:56 (twenty years ago)

you keep on voting Liberal, no matter what they do?

My parents are exactly the same. They've always voted Liberal and they always will. When I hit 18 my dad told me he'd kick me out of the house if I voted Labor, and I think he meant it.

A few weeks ago I made a comment about the Coalition's 'Latham was shit in Liverpool' campaign being pointless because Latham would have a treasurer to do all that anyway, and my mother hit me with the biggest death stare I've ever seen. I mean, fucking hell.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 10 October 2004 22:00 (twenty years ago)

For the record, I voted Liberal [state and national] about 10 years ago. Then I didn't vote for a while because things seemed okay and I didn't feel informed enough.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 10 October 2004 22:07 (twenty years ago)

i kind of sympathise with the "don't wanna be here" bunch - theres a sense of fatigue and frustration that i think you actually sum up Trayce...you talk of fighting but you can't get up the steam to argue with your mum (not criticizing...i feel exactly the same)

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 10 October 2004 22:11 (twenty years ago)

Yep. I don't want the Coalition in, but I'm stuck with them. I'm not happy living in this country anymore because of that, and voting makes fuck-all difference, so I can understand why some people want to get out.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 10 October 2004 22:17 (twenty years ago)

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 10 October 2004 23:22 (twenty years ago)

no it's actually good.. going back to renting sucks a bit but i'll be able to afford an actual house in an area i like. i doubt i'll have made any profit but oh well. i'm going to invest my deposit in something that has nothing to do with property..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 10 October 2004 23:23 (twenty years ago)

yeah i don't blame you, i've pretty much committed to renting for good and investing the difference in stuff other than property, i don't reckon there's a big difference in $$ terms in the end. i like living near the city and the beach and i could never buy a place in that location.

Preston/Coburg, but particularly Coburg, is chockers with crime. I know people who live in tha area whos cars and homes are broken into all the time. I mean several times a year, some multiple times in the same month.

Never ever had that happen where I am.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 11 October 2004 02:04 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 11 October 2004 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I thought that after I hit submit. I guess anywheres bad. Also, where you are now is possibly worse than, say, where me and Adam are... probably not by a lot but I dunno. Put it this way, I'd never want to live in St Kilda proper.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 02:09 (twenty years ago)

We have to evaluate our own performance in this joke of a subject. This is my formal submission [G-proofed obv]:

A) What problems did you encounter during the development of Stage 2?

1. P4SE's inability to count SL0C accurately
2. P4SE's inability to count SL0C consistently
3. Eiff3l being an unnecessarily esoteric language
4. Eiff3l's 'APIs' not really being APIs at all
5. Insufficient code resources for the Eiff3l language
6. Eiff3lStudi0 not accepting a set of code that worked on another machine
7. Eiff3lStudi0 sporadically compiling with errors
8. Utterly ridiculous amount of work required within time provided

B) What improvements to your process could you make to overcome these problems?
List some improvement proposals. Suggest one or more for each problem.

1. Count SL0C manually [requires extra time]
2. Count SL0C manually [requires extra time]
3. Never code in Eiff3l ever again
4. Never code in Eiff3l ever again
5. Never code in Eiff3l ever again
6. Never use Eiff3lStudi0 ever again
7. Never use Eiff3lStudi0 ever again
8. Do a Bachelor of Commerce instead

You're disturbingly good at that.

see, eisbar, theres larrikins & theres rednecks. one is ok. the other?

btw: that query ages ago about anyone knowing anyone who voted lib was serious... i have always worked in academic /humanities /journalism/ education type places. all my friends are inner west lefties. i avoid right wing propaganda. when Trayce asked were we surprised about johnboy getting in again i was scared to say...

gaz (gaz), Monday, 11 October 2004 03:47 (twenty years ago)

i am an "advisor" to the state labor govt here. my office is kinda grim this morning. but on this note, i know what you mean gaz - the only people i know who voted coalition are my parents. having said that, i expected the coalition to be re-elected to be honest - but by a MUCH smaller margin

gem (trisk), Monday, 11 October 2004 03:50 (twenty years ago)

theres a whole world out there i know nothing about

gaz (gaz), Monday, 11 October 2004 03:53 (twenty years ago)

Liberal/Coalition voters are too scared to admit it these days.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 11 October 2004 03:54 (twenty years ago)

Oh hell no theyre not - my mother said she was "really happy" the libs got in, and she hasnt a malicious bone in her body - shes not narrowminded or racist. She is rather middle class Christian sheltered tho, and it makes me really sad. Esp when she excuses my dad's ugly casual racism ("hey look at all the hymies!" is not what you want him to yell when we're walking down my street to the shop :/)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:14 (twenty years ago)

We are the ones who dont see the wider world, I fear. Its easy to think no one thinks that way when we pointedly avoid the Herald Sun, ACA/TT shows, horrid radio like Lawsy and Neily.. etc.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:15 (twenty years ago)

Ah. See, my parents are racist and think homosexuality is 'not normal,' and they believe everything they're told by the television and 3AW.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:16 (twenty years ago)

Having said that, there was a very interesting letter in t'Age which gave me some hope. I shall paste it here (sorry Age).

"Always look on the bright side of life

The ALP should not be too distressed with the election result. Just over 10 months ago, internal ALP polling had shown the powerbrokers that under Simon Crean the party was facing a probable wipe-out, with a predicted loss of at least 20 seats.

In a bold move they changed leaders, crossed their fingers, and chose an untested and youthful Mark Latham. As the time span to the election was short, the clear strategy was to minimise the electoral damage, so as to provide a stronger platform for a tilt at the 2007 poll.

In the subsequent months, Latham's zest and enthusiasm, and his innovative policies, halted the slide in support and began to capture back those supporters who had drifted away from Labor. It was clearly apparent that he put the wind right up John Howard and his Government.

On Saturday night's results, it just wasn't enough. But the strategy has worked. Mark Latham has grown in stature and maturity in the lead-up to and during the election campaign. The public now has a better view of him, but it's not yet his time.

It should not be forgotten that never has a government been defeated which has presided over a strong economy, with low interest rates, low inflation and lowish unemployment.

But from here on in the political scenario will be very interesting. Economic conditions will change because of high oil prices and this, along with a large spending program by the Government, will lead to higher inflation and subsequent rises in interest rates.

Peter Costello will not sit back quietly and see his chance of becoming PM slip through his fingers. And Mark Latham's standing with voters will continue to grow, and he will take the challenge right up to the Government, refusing to let the PM off the hook on any issue.

Rather than being a stable government, the next term could be quite unstable - and we may go to the polls again much earlier than we thought.

No, Labor should not be too disappointed at all.
Chris Osborne, Pelican Flat, NSW"

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:16 (twenty years ago)

I never thought about things that way. This could be a start, not an end!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:17 (twenty years ago)

xpost - i don't get to avoid that stuff though, i have to read it. i am currently cataloguing coalition election promises so that we can put pressure on them to honour them (errr hopefully) at a later date. i still cannot believe that people could vote coalition in all conscience. i can only conclude that the fact that the nation is crippled by personal debt led people to capitulate to propaganda about interest rates.

gem (trisk), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:17 (twenty years ago)

it's cool that the greens gained quite a bit of ground too

gem (trisk), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:18 (twenty years ago)

Now the Victorian Liberals might want to think about doing the same. Richard who??

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:19 (twenty years ago)

by the time Latham has another chance the country will have been strip mined, all assetts sold off, oveseas ownership complete, unions destroyed etc etc.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:24 (twenty years ago)

I have NEVER seen so much dissent following an election. Ever.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:27 (twenty years ago)

i still cannot believe that people could vote coalition in all conscience

Sadly I can - it is called being fed shit by the media. The media which is slowly being swallowed up, American style, to be used as a tool of the government.

Orwell got one thing wrong when he wrote 1984 though - he didnt factor the Internet in. While it exists as it now does, grassroots work will never die.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:29 (twenty years ago)

Man and here I was saying I was over politics. heh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:29 (twenty years ago)

I have NEVER seen so much dissent following an election. Ever

true. i think alp will have to abandon their ideological reservations about running a negative election campaign to win in the next campaign, that is clear from what has happened here i think.

gem (trisk), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:33 (twenty years ago)

Yep. The ALP campaign should have had balls. None of that 'Australians are ready! I can feel it everywhere I go!' pusillanimous wank.

I mean for fuck's sake, last year during the whole Iraq thing, Latham called the Howard government 'a conga-line of suckholes'. Where the fuck was THAT Latham??

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:35 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Labours campaign was weak as.

Having said that I was very bored with Lib's "this is why they suck!" approach. Where was anyones like, um, POLICIES?

I mean this fam first guy who got in. Does anyone know what the fuck his actual party line is? They claim religion wont come into it. Fine, I hope theyre right with the nasty ideology the wankers appear to have. But what are they for?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:38 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:38 (twenty years ago)

and i don't think the libs really have any policies trayce, you are right, they were banking on people's feeling of fear of losing the economic growth they perceive that the coalition has driven

Most old people. They believe what they're told to believe. They were raised to trust doctors and television/radio and men in suits, and not have to do any thinking.

Incidentally, I'd say the most disturbing aspect of the likely Family First senate win in Victoria is that almost no-one knew they were voting for him. He got 1.9% of the primary vote, compared to almost 9% for the Greens candidate he's likely to displace. Almost every other party stitched up a dodgy preference-swap with the creepy newcomers in various ill-fated attempts to bolster their own chances, despite sharing little ideological common ground. Apparently more than one Labor person at booths was erroneously reassuring people that a vote 'above the line' would send preferences to the Greens ahead of FF. Meanwhile Natasha Stott-Despoja was advising Democrat votes to fill in all 65 senate preferences manually to avoid preferencing FF. Not that many people have time for that.

Erm, guess I'm not over the election then.

Nag! Nag! Nag! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Monday, 11 October 2004 05:03 (twenty years ago)

On the Melbourne Ports ALP voting form, Family First was SIXTH of eight positions. I took back my form and asked for another, so I could put Family First eighth.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 11 October 2004 05:14 (twenty years ago)

I didnt put FF 8th, i put em 7th after the Libs but yeah I didnt know about those prefs either.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 October 2004 05:20 (twenty years ago)

i had indies on my ballot that i knew nothing about, unfortunately. my seat went as hoped but i regretted not getting a preferences guide..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 11 October 2004 05:24 (twenty years ago)

They were hopeless at my polling station. They opened the doors at about 8:15 [after a bloke went up and started thumping and they yelled 'wrong door!', and they still hadn't opened anyway], and the ALP and Greens reps were late too, so I didn't even get a Greens pamphlet. I was stood in the queue for about 10 minutes clutching the Liberal one, hoping nobody thought I was going to vote that way.

Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 11 October 2004 05:27 (twenty years ago)

I took none of the pamphlets. I scanned the local rags for weeks aforehand to make sure who all my local reps were and if any of them seemed sus.

Now, the "nothing Sus!" party, I would have voted for, ha!

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 03:18 (twenty years ago)

No haircut that costs $5 can lead to good things.

Haaaaaitch (haitch), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 04:16 (twenty years ago)

haha they wanted to mug cheapskates?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 04:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking it's probably a front for one of those black market organ-trafficking operations. One moment you're laying back waiting for the shampooing to commence, next thing you know you wake up in an icy bath with no kidneys.

Haaaaaitch (haitch), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 04:51 (twenty years ago)

A NICE-LOOKING FRINGE, BUT AT WHAT REAL COST??

Haaaaaitch (haitch), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 04:53 (twenty years ago)

You write screenplays?

I'm working on my graduate degree in screenwriting, so equally 'yes' I write them and 'no' I don't really write them.

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 04:56 (twenty years ago)

ah!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 05:11 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:18 (twenty years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:26 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:35 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:36 (twenty years ago)

which will result in the banning of all goth clubs in the CBD

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 22:23 (twenty years ago)

d) none of the above. I was so fucking tired that all I did was catch up with my friend Liv, have dinner and crash back on the couch, I wasnt even up for a drink!

Slept early and everything. Ugh.

I miss Nick :(

Traaaaayce!!!, Thursday, 14 October 2004 00:57 (twenty years ago)

the rob roy is stopping live music.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 14 October 2004 01:43 (twenty years ago)

live music in general and everywhere?

gem (trisk), Thursday, 14 October 2004 01:44 (twenty years ago)

yes.

or to put it another way, no.

but still, it's far and away melbourne's best band venue so i'm kinda cut about it at the mo

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 14 October 2004 01:53 (twenty years ago)

sorry, i understood your point. is it a suburban (i.e. in residential area) pub? why are they stopping live music?

gem (trisk), Thursday, 14 October 2004 01:55 (twenty years ago)

not really.. it's sort of a residential area and sort of not. i know that there were noise issues though. the ownership has changed hands and they've decided to turf the music. god only knows what they think they'll do with it, there's just no way it'll make any money for anybody other than as a band or pokie venue.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 14 October 2004 01:58 (twenty years ago)

hmmmm. sad. i'm always glad we don't have pokies in WA, i've always been convinced it is one of the things underpinning our fairly healthy live music scene.

maybe they'll bring it back if the pub's takings start sliding? isn't it famous for live bands, surely most of the clientele is going there for that reason...

gem (trisk), Thursday, 14 October 2004 02:02 (twenty years ago)

Melb live pubs seem to be having probs at the moment, or is my impression wrong? We keep getting conflicting info from the bookers there.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:20 (twenty years ago)

which pub are you talking about? most are ok at the moment but a lot of places have a revolving cast of band bookers..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:25 (twenty years ago)

Ah, maybe that's been the problem. We've been getting a lot of yes-no-yes-no action from the bookers there.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:30 (twenty years ago)

yes yes but which venues?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:32 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm need to remember. I might have to check with Rach on that one, she does all that. We had 5 or 6 gigs confirmed for Oct in Melb, and one by one they all fell through.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:38 (twenty years ago)

cunce!

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:39 (twenty years ago)

But I won't name places unless I'm sure which ones they were, that wouldn't be nice. But yes - cunce!

You know what yanks my chain? It's a struggle in any part of Aust to get our thing going, cos we always seem to get a lot of attitude. But while all this is going on, we send something to various people overseas and they're usually back to us within a week going great, let's do something! The more succesful they are, the less attitude we get. It makes me a little tetchy.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:56 (twenty years ago)

You know it only takes one... ONE person to make a complaint to the council about noise, and a venue has to stop having live acts unless they already had some kind of council approval etc.

There was a fantastic coffeehouse in st kilda that did standup comedy, which was literally just a guy in the doorway, not even miced up. It cant have made a scrap of noise, the people having coffe wouldve made more.

So someone - someone who, mind you, had not even moved into the nearby house they were renovating yet - complained, and the cafe got told to stop, because their licence said no live acts.

Its getting silly. These cashed up bastards move in and demand all the scum and noise go away, even though if you think about it, its these people who made their exciting trendy suburb cool in the first place. GAH.

rantyTrayce, Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:57 (twenty years ago)

But people are fools and feebs, Trayce.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 October 2004 03:57 (twenty years ago)

Hi Ned!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 14 October 2004 04:02 (twenty years ago)

I just watched the _best_ Nova of all time.

Descent into the IceA team of "glacionauts" ventures into a labyrinth of unexplored and hazardous glacier caves on France's Mt. Blanc.

It's available on DVD for $20.00. Do I really want it? Yes. Will I watch it enough to mandate $20.00 of purchase? Doubtful.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 14 October 2004 04:07 (twenty years ago)

hmm, so is it time to finally let this thread concept go? or is it just the immense length of this thread scaring away the casual visitors

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:41 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:12 (twenty years ago)
