Jaymc.

Now we are up to 4.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Is it pronounced Jay - MAC, or just jay m c? It's something that I've pondered from time to time.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 17:51 (twenty years ago)

He has a unique laugh. Well, not unique, because I thought that other guy laughing was him, but a DISTINCT laugh.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago)

OR DID I???

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago)

You're so modest.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Jaymc plays all the instruments on his band's cd.

(I pronounce it Jay, M.C., like he's an MC, obviously.)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago)

Modest Mouse named their band after Jaymc.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:13 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Like I'm in any position to judge.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:15 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:19 (twenty years ago)

He visited the Museum of Gay Rights in San Francisco, and in an amusing mixup, was subsequently confused for a homosexual.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:21 (twenty years ago)

It was back in '04 when times were hard
He had a Colt .45 and a deck of cards
Jaymc.
He wore rat-drawn shoes and an old stetson hat
Had a '88 Ford, had payments on that
Jaymc.
His woman threw him out in the ice and snow
And told him, "Never ever come back no more"
Jaymc.
So he walked through the rain and he walked through the mud
Till he came to a place called the Bucket of Blood
Jaymc.
He said "Mr Motherfucker, you know who I am?"
The barkeeper said, "No, and I don't give a good goddamn."
To Jaymc.
He said, "Well bartender, it's plain to see
I'm that bad motherfucker called Jaymc."
Mr. Jaymc.
Barkeep said, "Yeah, I've heard your name down the way
And I kick motherfucking asses like you every day."
Mr Jaymc.
Well those were the last words that the barkeep said
'Cause Jay put four holes in his motherfucking head
Just then in came a broad called Nellie Brown
Was known to make more money than any bitch in town
She struts across the bar, hitching up her skirt
Over to Jaymc, she starts to flirt
With Jaymc.
She saw the barkeep, said, "O God, he can't be dead!"
Stag said, "Well, just count the holes in the motherfucker's head!"
She said, "You ain't look like you scored in quite a time.
Why not come to my pad? It won't cost you a dime,
Mr. Jaymc."
"But there's something I have to say before you begin--
You'll have to be gone before my man N/A comes in,
Mr. Jaymc."
"I'll stay here till N/A comes in, till time comes to pass
And furthermore I'll fuck N/A in his motherfucking ass,"
Said Jaymc.
"I'm a bad motherfucker, don't you know
And I'll crawl over fifty good pussies just to get one fat boy's asshole,"
Said Jaymc.
Just then N/A rolls in and he says, "You must be
That bad motherfucker called Jaymc."
Mr. Jaymc.
"Yeah, I'm Jaymc and you better get down on your knees
And suck my dick, because if you don't you're gonna be dead!"
Said Jaymc.
N/A dropped down and slobbered on his head
And Stag filled him full of lead
Oh yeah.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:24 (twenty years ago)

He is anything but a bad motherfucker.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:25 (twenty years ago)

I think there are now three (?) true statements on this thread. Maybe two, because the LAUGH is subjective.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:27 (twenty years ago)

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 18:28 (twenty years ago)

You Belong to the City - Glenn Frey

The sun goes down, the night rolls in
You can feel it starting all over again
The moon comes up and the music calls
You're gettin' tired of starin' at the same four walls

You're out of your room and down on the street
Movin' through the crowd and the midnight heat
The traffic crawls, the sirens scream
You look at the faces, it's just like a dream
Nobody knows where you're goin'
Nobody cares where you've been

'Cause you belong to the city
You belong to the night
Livin' in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon lights

You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet
It's in your moves, it's in your blood
You're a man of the streets

When you said goodbye, you were on the run
Tryin' to get away from the things you've done
Now you're back again, and you're feeling strange
So much has happened, but nothing has changed
You still don't know where you're goin'
You're still just a face in the crowd

You belong to the city
You belong to the night
Livin' in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon lights

You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet
It's in your blood, it's in your moves
You're a man of the street

You can feel it, you can taste it
You can see it, you can face it
You can hear it, hey, you're getting near it, hey
You wanna make it, cause you can take it
You belong to the city, you belong to the night
You belong to the city, you belong to the night
You belong, you belong

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, exactly!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 10:20 (twenty years ago)

JayMC was actually one of the four founding members of Run DMC. The others asked him to leave due to fears that his beard did not mesh well with their image. Thus in the grand workings of fate and the cosmos did JayMC avoid being shot fatally during the recording of the first Canasta demos.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Possibly.

He needs to fucking get me the ILX Comp II.
Also he needs to tell me if he thinks I should go see OUT HUD on Saturday, swallowing my pride in the process because I dissed their first album in print (kind of, it was online) but I listened to the new one at Tower and I have to say it sounds pretty good, leaving me to wonder if Out Hud has gotten better or if maybe, just maybe, I've grown up a little in the last few years, and in the process learned that I should never, never write CD reviews again.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

awww. sweet, lil' jaymc.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm drinking tea and I brought a Pavement CD to work with me. Oh, and I'm going to see Will Oldham play tonight. In an art gallery.

jaymc put an mp3 of "Since U Been Gone" on his site! "Random," too, but "Since U Been Gone"!!! Cuz seriously nobody's heard this track, it's gonna blow up ANYTIME...and I wanted a hard copy without actually buying Breakaway. I am very grateful.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Whenever I hear Since U Been Gone,
I just smile and think of John.
aw.

I'd like to see a pic of his short hair.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

When I first saw his new haircut I was like, "WOW, John! You're looking goooood!" I think it took him a minute to figure out what I was talking about.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

i agree! it's very flattering! although, it did transform him into Captain Don't Mess With My Hair.

Nick, I'm going to that show. But right now, I don't have anyone to go with. SO: you and me. Empty Bottle. Saturday. I will bring the ILX Comp II.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 15 April 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

this thread still makes me embarrassed...

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 15 April 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

Anthony: four people downloaded "Since U Been Gone" before I took it down an hour ago! I give the people what they want!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 15 April 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

I was one of them! And I love that Basement Jaxx track, too, and downloaded it just to have it at work. I should bring more CDs to work.

happy fun ball (kenan), Friday, 15 April 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I downloaded the "Oh My Gosh" song this morning too, and I wanted to download "Random" but it wasn't there anymore so I had to get it elsewhere, then I ended up listening to Random three times in a row on my walk to the El. Such. a. good. song.

Um, can Sarah come to the OUt Hud show too?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

I want to come to the Outhud show, but I'm going to be loaded from the Belgian beer fest, so I don't know if I should stumble there.

I thought I was jonesing on this site too much until I checked the user board. JayMC, are you, like, under house arrest or something? What did you do?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

I think the Users list is fucked up. (For example: where is Ned?)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

(Also: not house arrest so much as office arrest.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

beth, that thing is all screwy, jaymc doesn't really post that much

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if I was pretty far up there, since I do post on the Chicago thread a lot, and that gets up to 1000 posts within a week, it seems.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

Jaymc is real, we hung out last weekend. He clapped his hands and said yeah.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think he's gentle or curious. He's like a wild ape, driven to near insanity by its own base and unchecked desires.

Cristal Waters (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

That too.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

I think the Users list is fucked up. (For example: where is Ned?)

Yeah, I'm no more #2 than John is #1. I haven't posted that much for at least a month.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

He clapped his hands and said yeah.

I did, in fact! It was a sort of groan-worthy moment. After CYHSY's first song, I applauded and said "yeah!" which I often do at shows. Then I realized what I had done.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

haha.
i really think you chicagoans, esp. jaymc might legitimately be the top posters. the chicago threads are gigantic, and you seem to drive a lot of the other discussions around here. i haven't seen much of ned in the last month, really.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

if i am #29, it's definitely fuxored.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, I'm number TEN? That doesn't fit with my ILX self-image. Last time I looked at thing I was like #99.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

It's been completely wrong for ages, and the figures are vastly inflated as well as completely wrong - Ned may not have been at his busiest, and I'm not saying no one could have caught him, but his ranking there is still absurd. Don't trust any of it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I don't know how many posts I've made, but I can easily check how many threads I've started. It says I've made 6 in the last 30 days, but I've only made 2.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

Also: Amateur(ist) is supposedly #11, even though he's been in grad school for the last month and I've seen a grand total of ONE post he's made (on the ILM 80s poll thread) since.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

that's strange. the internet is conspiring. :-) ned's still totally ahead in the of-all-time post rankings.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe the rankings are based on quality instead of quantity?

Ethan, the point of that thread wasn't "Look at me, I have a fetish!" -- because you're right, that'd be lame. It was more like a "Let's post photos of hot people" thread. The whole biracial angle was, as I said, inspired by the dumb interracial couple thread. The "best arguments for miscegenation" title was swiped from a comment gbx made to Laurel about a friend of his.

But yeah, it really had nothing to do with my own tastes. I like mixed girls, white girls, black girls, etc. As far as me needing to throw some white or Asian in there to make it palatable, I don't believe that's true. My first girlfriend in high school was straight-up black, and she was totally cute.

As far as me posting "creepy shit," yeah I don't know, that's a judgment call on your part whether I've really done that, or whether that's just a meme perpetuated by hstencil and Stormy Davis. I do stand behind whatever "gay personal shit" I've posted, though: I don't mind talking about that stuff on the Internet. I know you like to keep your private life a little more to yourself, and that's cool.

I agree with you that Slocki is awesome, though. I got the chance to meet him in Montreal a few weeks ago, and he def lived up to expectations. :)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 May 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Gear, unless it's all culled from a quick ILE search, your list of facts about me is pretty impressive! I know you prob knew the Edith Frost bit off the top of your head, since you like her, too.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 26 May 2006 07:26 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sorry for reviving that thread to make a snide comment, jaymc. FWIW while I agree with what ethan said vis a vis the "new craze" blabbity blah blah I don't think it applies to you and wasn't trying to accuse you of being a creepy fetishist.

oops (Oops), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure why Ned felt compelled to respond, but whatever. He's fine, and so is gbx.

Probably will go to the reunion, for morbid curiosity. Maybe this clown will show up.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

i am full of humor wtf

gbx (skowly), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think Ned felt compelled to respond because it's not everyday that you get to see someone spectacularly make a jackass out of themselves for absolutely no reason or point.

Dan (Breathtaking) Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

(xpost) Yeah, you know, I agree there are a lot of "humorless goobs" on ILX, but really, gbx is one of the last people I'd describe in that way!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

"I'm not sure why Ned felt compelled to respond,"
^you must be new here.

my friend and I were trying to remember who is heading up the committee. sz0st@k, h0ffm@n (he sees here on the train occassionally), and....?

who's myspace is that? adam who? the one that you sorta hung around with? damn what was his name.
my other friend ran into adam mayshuk (i know that's not how it's spelled) at a FAMILY REUNION last weekend. they're somehow related now through marriage.

oops (Oops), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

who's myspace is that? adam who? the one that you sorta hung around with? damn what was his name.

@D@M GYN@C. Yeah, I mean I hung around with him in like 7TH GRADE. And then I became embarrassed of him and his D&D-playing friends and got into a fight with him because of it in Mrs. Jan0ski's class, and we never really hung out after that.

Adam M. -- I barely remember him. Big dude? Wrestler?

i think dan felt the need to comment because it's everyday that he thinks he's superior to everyone on the planet.

The Chicago thread was pretty entertaining today. :-D

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

I think Ned felt compelled to respond because it's not everyday that you get to see someone spectacularly make a jackass out of themselves for absolutely no reason or point.

Quite.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

I was directed to Adam G's page via the other Adam G(r1eve), whom I was ecstatic to hear from since I'd lost touch with him a while ago and had always wondered what he was up to. He also gave me a ton of gossip (natch). R0nnie Fals0n also just found me on Myspace -- she's married and living in Seattle. I'm surprised there aren't more people from BHS on there, though. Oh yeah, and I'm friends with L1z Beav3r and B3cky R0senthal and N1na Or3chwa, too. Haven't seen Nina since high school, but I do see Liz and Becky periodically. (Liz and I lived a block away from each other for the better part of last year.)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

i know! i was just funnin'....in FRENCH!

gbx (skowly), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

you know i'm still close friends with one of nina's old boyfriends, right? i wouldn't be surprised if he STILL has a thing for her. any pale, tall, skinny, attractive-in-an-unique-way girl makes him weak in the knees, and i know she's the reason why. last he heard she was living in texas i think?

oops (Oops), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

I think she's in Ohio. Again, I haven't even spoken with her in years -- I suspect she added me because she saw me among Liz's friends. Who's the ex?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 May 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah. MySpace friends.

I thought it might be Dan. I didn't know that they'd dated, but he seemed like the most likely candidate among people you still hang out with!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 May 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, Chr1s C@rl3y and I used to have fun pronouncing his last name. "Ssssssspin-a-bella."

it's a great name. i first heard it in BCBascketball. My coach was warning us to watch out for him. I thought he dubbed him that himself, cause dan was was so light on his feet that he could wear glass sneakers and he had a wicked spin move. I think he's been getting laid... that always helps.

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not mocking you, I'm subtly questioning whether one could be said to be "around" the Interweb.

This is not a new development!

n/a, Thursday, 12 July 2007 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

n/a - It's struck me lately that perhaps you're struggling with the idea of ILX as a "virtual" entity that cocoons real-world interaction.

Awesome. I hadn't really realized that I wasn't posting as much to ILX until I saw the nu-statscock. But it does make sense: the gf means I don't post at night anymore, and my job has gotten somewhat busier in the last few months as well.

You're not around as much as you used to be, Adam. Take that to the bank.

jaymc, Thursday, 12 July 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

I will. I WILL take it to the bank and start a fucking high-interest savings account with it.

But seriously....hello.

admrl, Thursday, 12 July 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

I have met two women named Chelsea in the past month, each one in her early twenties. What has the trendline been for this name over the past century?

This is a really great question because I've never investigated this name and it's particularly interesting.

Chelsea debuted in the top 1000 in 1969 (#706), most likely because of the Joni Mitchell song "Chelsea Morning," which was released that year (along with a cover by Judy Collins). For the entire next decade, it hangs around the lower reaches of the chart, never higher than the 400s -- and then inexplicably surges to #171 in 1982. (I can't tell if there's a cultural explanation for that or not.) From then on, it slowly climbs up until peaking at #15 in 1992. Its fall has mostly been a mirror image of its rise, and it's currently at #209.

What I'm most curious about, however, is whether this was a natural trajectory, or whether the introduction to the public of Chelsea Clinton in 1992 had any effect on the name's popularity. Since the name was already #18 in 1991, it's hard to tell whether the slight jump up to #15 the following year was Clinton-related or not. Similarly, one could argue that the decline was because the name was too associated with the Clinton daughter, but that's not absolutely certain since the name doesn't drop as dramatically as, say, Monica does in 1999.

As far as these early 20s girls go, it's not too surprising, I guess. The name moved from #84 to #33 between 1984 and '88, and Minnesota rankings look to be fairly consistent with the national ones.

jaymc, Monday, 10 November 2008 22:52 (sixteen years ago)

how the hell is leah ridiculous?
fairly common jewish name

velko, Monday, 10 November 2008 22:54 (sixteen years ago)

i mean, as biblical names go, you could do a lot worse

velko, Monday, 10 November 2008 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

Leah is not ridic at all but saying "no it is pronounced LAY"

is the silly part

IMO.

Plus it always reminded me of "laying on of hands" in church in which a bunch of old dudes would stack their hands on your head and pray (for healing, or the holy ghost, or other things...baptisms by proxy). This was an uncomfortable little endurance feat.

Abbott of the Trapezoid Monks (Abbott), Monday, 10 November 2008 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

It's normally Lay-uh or Lee-ah, yes?

Abbott of the Trapezoid Monks (Abbott), Monday, 10 November 2008 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

will jaymc be following this baby name trend?: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/10/us/politics/10babies.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Yeah, I read that last night. I'm mostly wondering whether it will have any effect on the 2008 data or whether these babies are coming too late in the year to make a noticeable impact. Although it wouldn't surprise me to see Michelle make a slight jump this year -- whereas parents may have been hesitant to name their kids "Barack" because the inspiration is too obvious (and may have waited until he was actually elected president, anyway, so as not to burden their child with the name of an also-ran), Michelle isn't linked as closely with the future First Lady but is nevertheless "in the air."

jaymc, Monday, 10 November 2008 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

i usually hear Lay-uh

someone my wife grew up with is named Ian, pronounced Eye-on, wtf??

velko, Monday, 10 November 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

Thanks, J. -- when I met Chelsea #2 (a Lousiana native) last night, I knew I'd have to ask you.

Eazy, Monday, 10 November 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

You know, I only mentioned Minnesota because I mistakenly thought I was addressing Eric H.! Louisiana, along with the rest of the South, was a little slow on the Chelsea train, but by 1987 it had caught up with the rest of the country.

I was actually thinking of this thread the other day! I had some time to kill on Sunday night, so I went down to the Velvet Lounge and had a couple beers and watched this jazz quartet. At one point, I was watching the drummer and I realized, why he's hitting the ride on every beat! And for a second it was kind of irritating, and then I stopped focusing on it and I was fine.
