Rowlf was mentioned on the psychotherapy thread and warm childhood memories gave me inpsiration. Rowlf rocked; he could play the piano, he looked at life with a smile, and was about 8 million times smarter than everyone thought he was. He quite clearly rocked.

I'd definitely have to say Fozzie Bear too. On a related theme though what was the name of the dreadlocked muppet that hosted the revamped muppet show about 5 years ago (it was probably longer than that). He wasn't my favourite muppet.

The old gits and the swedish chef. I have a V/VM record with the swedish chef doing the 12 days of christmas on it. i really want to find the original of this.

The chickens are obviously important to the chef routine, so they get a vote so does the Sax player in the band, kindled my love of baritone sax for ever.

I always loathed Miss piggy and thought Kermit was spinelss. Fozie was just an ass and Gonzo was insecure. Only Rolf seemed stable. I liked that hug e monster one though.

Ally: Croonchy Stars!! I used to collect the boxes (there were 3 I think). "How many times can you find the word 'rutabaga' on this box? (not including this sentence)" "Rutaba - almost!" "Rutabaga on the side panel doesn't count!" "Rutabaga Rutabaga - twice in a row doesn't count!" The cereal itself - slightly puffy little cinnamon stars that got soggy rather quickly. Didn't last.

My fave: not on the Muppet Show, but the question does not require this. The guy on Sesame Street who plays piano, but gets so immensely frustrated that he just bangs his entire head on the keyboard over and over.

When I was little I loved the sax player, whose name turns out to be Zoot. I also liked Gonzo's hook-shaped nose, and now his chicken fetish intrigues me. As I got older though, I have to say that I most clearly identify with Statler and Waldorf, they are the best. A woman I used to work with called me Statler and aco-worker Waldorf.

On a related note, if you are ever so unlucky as to find yourself in Florida, and happen to wander into the People's Rebublic of Disneyland, I highly recommend the Muppets 3-D movie-fantastic, and probably the only reason to go to "MGM Studios".

Much as I love the Muppets in all incarnations (I went to a press screening of Muppets From Space, and it was loads of hacks with their kids, and just about four of us unaccompanied by brats. I felt very creepy) that album is just about the worst thing ever. My sister had it when we were kids, and made my parents play the tape over and over again in the car...

Snuffleupagus speaks too slowly and I get annoyed. Thus the only panic attack that could be induced in *me* by the claim that he's imaginary is if I thought you meant *I'd* imagined him and he hadn't been on the show after all and I'd been getting intensely irritated with a hallucination of a big hairy mammoth with a cold, which would be a worrying revelation indeed.

It's a tie between Animal and Rowlf for me, though it used to be Gonzo and Fozzy when I was little. On Sesame St I nominate Oscar and the Cookie Monster, who embody two different approaches to life which are both very dear to me.

Muppet annuals = classic. I have two, which both cost 20p or something from jumble sales. One of them is pretty big and chunky and has loads of scripts and each character speaks in a different wacky typeface and you get to find out all their names and there are loads of stories and scripts and drawings and stuff. Yay. The other is thinner and has photos from the show instead of cartoons and has more boardgames and stuff and fewer stories and less Swedishcheffery and less surreal Kermit-distressing disruption of stories by dancers polka-ing through the middle shouting "mahna mahna!", so isn't nearly as good, but still pretty classic by sheer virtue of containing Muppets.

Oh, and search: Muppet Show (complete classic), destroy: Fraggles (zzz) and quite probably Labyrinth, which isn't actually that bad, but Bowie in obscenely tight tights is a BAD THING to inflict upon children, or anyone else.

The scariest thing was my ex-roomie and I watching childrens' TV early one morning after a 3-day acid trip. Sesame Street came on, and the feature on Monsterpiece Theatre was "Twin Beaks" which was a take-off of Twin Peaks in a town filled with birds with two beaks, and a log lady who had a log that everyone asked questions to, and it would open its eyes and say "How should I know? I'm just a log!"

We watched in abject terror and fear and amazement for the entire length of the segment, then turned to each other and whispered "Did you just see that? Then it was *real*? You saw it too? So I didn't just hallucinate that?"

I'm glad I was too old for snuffuluffagus, that would have scared the shit out of me.

As an ex-French student I would like to see Muppet Mme Bovary cast as follows: Miss Piggy in the title role; Kermit as Charles; Gonzo as Homais; Beaker as Justin; Pierce Brosnan as Rudolph (it's a live action Muppet film, OK?); Leonardo di Caprio as Leon etc. etc. The other Muppets would find roles a-plenty among the village folk and so on.

One person voluntered to be Animal and he sat in the middle of a circle formed by all the other players. I also think that Muppets From Space was underrated, but this could just be some sort of brainwashing from being repeatedly subjected to it while working at a video store. The best thing about that movie is my new favorite muppet, Pepe the King Prawn. So cool. The more I think about it, the more I believe that MFS is my favorite Muppet movie.

It is judgemental, but I find it a rule of thumb to avoid becoming too close to people who say they are a lot like Miss Piggy. The same goes with followers of Schulz's Lucy. We will not end up getting along. I always felt Gonzo was my spiritual kin.

I am 23 and Grover was a notable figure of my youth. He is a good example of how to successfully pull off self-aggrandzing behavior. He still seemed to have an underlying humility due to his gentleness.

Apparently Mr. Henson had some kind of "golden triangle" rule for designing muppet faces, never to be revealed to mere mortals such as me. I think Sanrio has a similar scheme.

I always loved most of The Electric Mayhem, but I think Floyd was my favorite random character.

Guy Smiley, on the other hand, scared the hell out of me. I had a nightmare once about a bunch of orange and purple Guy Smileys invading my room. I also got really freaked out by the "Windmills Of My Mind" bit where I believe a bunch of muppets were being blown across the stage. I was probably 4 or 5 and it terrified me.

Additionally, while googling for info on this show, I discovered The Muppet Wiki which is kind of amazing.

Probably Kermit. I had the soundtrack. Once my parents had sent me off to my room saying I had been naughty. I couldn't watch the episode that evening, they told me. They played the soundtrack so I would think that the show had started. OF course I started crying my eyes out believing this. They had a good rofl and let me watch the show anyway. superultramega and i were discussing, well, briefly, this last night and started doing impressions of the huge monster (sweetums? really? awesome) on the sidewalk, who is a favourite. it's totally fun and i recommend the up-and-down jostling while making googly eyes and with smiley mouth open.

i also had a real love for Statler and Waldorf when i was a kid - i always wanted to see what they had to say about all of it. they were dudes.

My best friend occasionally refers to me as Grover, which I think is fine because he's easily my favourite muppet. I also like Oscar very much, especially his laugh. When I was a kid, I loved imagining what his house was like when he would disappear into the garbage can and they'd use sound effects to signify a cavernous space. I think they meant a Dr. Who-like "larger volume inside than contained within outside" sort of dwelling, but I liked thinking of it as a massive cave running underneath the street.

I was never crazy about The Muppet Show, but I remember liking Zoot, Statler and Waldorf. Fozzy Bear had a pretty great voice.
