Sorry, I'm having a bit of a problem keeping up with ILX and everyone on it since I'm only posting from web cafes and at friends' houses.

Please pop onto this thread and feel free to tell me how you are doing, and what is going on, and what's been going on in your lives lately.

Oh, and especially remind/warn me about upcoming FAPs because I no longer have a bookmark for the FAP Diary!

I'm feeling a bit rubbish and low lately. The "Wheeeeee!" of "I never have to go back to that job, ever!" has given way to the awful and terrifying financial reality of how broke I really am now.

There is nothing more devastating to one's self esteem than looking for a job. Every resume you send out and get no reply to is another papercut on the road to bleeding to death. ugh.

kate, i concur and empathize. looking for a job is an awful, humiliating process.

what's going on with me: in two days i'm amtraking out to california (because i seem to have turned into gareth). then i'm helping chris flee the west coast for good; we're doing that via a good old-fashioned britney spears-style ROAD TRIP WHOOOO! it will last as long as the money holds out. pictures will be taken, oh yes.

I'm alright. Looking forward to this stupid election being over (please, God, let it be so), and looking for a new gig (a task which is progressing with all the stealth of a glacier). The baby is now seven months old and could not be more of a joy. There are plans afoot for 25th Anniversary shows for Killing Joke in February, but alas...they're in London, so chances are I shan't be going to those.

I was a Stepford Wife for Halloween! I went out and had fun and lost count of the large glasses of wine that I drank and then got very sick, but luckily was almost home by that point. I've been looking for work and have an "informational meeting" at a place I'd love to work in 2 days! I'm calling it that so I don't think too much of it being an interview and so get stressed about my lack of skillz. They probably don't have an actual job opening (nor would I be able to legally work full time) but they're willing to talk to me anyway. In school news I have not been doing enough research.

I've got good and bad stuff happening. I've started selling my CD collection via Amazon and have gotten good response in just a couple of weeks. On the down side, my dad's youngest brother died yesterday — the cancer spread through him like a brush fire. I invested in a good dark suit this morning because, well, I have a large family on my father's side, and I expect there will be a lot of funerals in the next few years.

Today I am stressing over the logistics of my band. I'm feeling a bit frustrated that the rest of the band are more interested in spending several hours discussing trivialities such as what should the frontperson say between songs, and how to get stage presence and what should they wear when I'm stressing over how to get three guitar amps across Hackney, how to have four people share two mics and what we are going to do for a bass amp. ARGH!

Still no word on the job situation. I applied for a few positions yesterday, but the only phone call I got was someone being condescending to me because I applied for a job in Luton. I said I would considering travelling for the right position. If you don't think I'm appropriate for the position, then don't put me forward for it. Don't just call me to be rude at me.

Should I reply to everyone individually? Wow, this is great. I'm happy for the people who are reporting that they are good, that cheers me up. (Though not as much as BOYZ.)

Archel, the Lewes Bonfire Night? Oh my lord, isn't that SCARY?!?!? Isn't that full on 17th Century No Popery blowing shit up? Oh my!

No, but I think the medical is fairly strict. I've thought about trying to become a train driver too, but I'm not sure I'd pass the eye test.

I am still overheating in Africa. I'm looking online for work in advertising, marketing, TV and radio in the UK, so I can go home with some reasonable expectations for the future. My life is sparse as I'm single, lonely and sexless and live in one of the world's quieter cities, but otoh, a mentalist has a crush on me (again). I miss London a lot and all that it entails like DJing, new reading material, general entertainment and my mates, but I can deal. My stomach is acting up today, making me feel dizzy and screwing up my body temperature. I would like a massive change.

Sadly, you do, because train signals aren't *always* positional like traffic lights. The signal that caused the Ladbroke Grove crash was L-shaped, like this:

Hi Kate.
As you know from that thread, I am currently feeling ugly, but suspect I am no uglier than the rest of the world and just in a bad mood. There is a rock and roll remembrance of Greg at the Red Lion this Thurs, and I'm sufficiently recovered to actually attend without losing my cookies.

I fear that I will have to replace the clutch and brakes on the VW Beetle that I bought used in just August. It's nice to drive in a round thing, though.

Let's see what else? I'm applying at all kinds of scary places for research jobs because the consulting is getting too stressful. Running one's own business is a great idea, but the up and down client cycle of feast or famine is starting to get to me.

My hair is damaged because I dye it too much and my hair is coming out by the handful despite the endless dousings with restructurizer.

I introduced my artist friend to another artist who is going to show him cut glass techniques.

Andrew, I really really hope that you feel less down and soon. I would send some frinkiness your way if I thought it would help, but that's about all I can offer in my current state.

Since I've woken up, I keep turning the television on, watching for a few minutes until I feel physically ill and start shouting and wanting to throw things, and then turn it off again. I'm trying to figure out how you actually go about turning in a Green Card. Would I take it to the US Embassy, or mail it back to the States, or what?

Thanks for the mail, Paul, I'll read it in greater detail when I have more leisure (i.e. I'm not at a web cafe) but on first perusal, it looks like you've given a lot of good advice. It's just a shame that other events in my life have mean that I now have the time, but not the money to persue that dream.

And as to the hair, stop dying it! The one good thing about being unemployed is I don't have the money to fuck up my hair so it's healthy and thick for the first time in my life since I was about 13! Wow!

Apart from that, I've had an email from my agency asking for my updated resume. Yeah, a week later. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I'm trying to get excited about the gig tomorrow, but mostly I feel anxious and depressed.

i tried to become a tube driver a couple years back and couldn't find the application for it on the website... i got the impression from that that being the driver is something that you progress towards and you have to be like a station staff for a while first (i have no idea really though.. my friend now works at the tube i really should ask him one of these days)

i like the idea of the train driving itself while i watch porn on a portable DVD player or something and get paid 30+k a year with loads of holidays. (i don't think that's really how it works, either)

I feel wretched today. Just wretched. I'm wracked with self loathing, and sick of making excuses for myself, and just getting the feeling that excuses are just excuses, and the reason that I can't keep a job, that I can't maintain a relationship, that I can't get on with my family, that I'm wrecked my whole life has nothing to do with anything except the fact that perhaps, I really *am* just an asshole.

Freaking Protestant Calvinist double predestination is really a bitch when it comes to the self loathing, isn't it? The reason I'm such a failure is because I'm a BAD PERSON. Sigh.

well, am anxious because i have to review the others for the nme in brighton - and the pr hasn't gotten back to me with what is happening with the train tickets. and i am worried that i'm not going to get back in time and end up getting stabbed by some junkie in brighton train station. and i just found out that i have to interview people on the show afterwards. how long will this take? will i miss the last train? will i be stabbed? etc etc.

just make up the interviews. A friend of a friend was reviewing a gig, and had to interview the 'fans' at the end of the gig. When the article was published, it turned out all the 'fans' were just his friends.

Doomie, you seem to have missed something rather important yesterday that is kind of a big reason why I *can't* just pack it in and move back home to my mum.

And I've been in therapy since I was 13. I think that's half the problem.

I just need to go out and play a carcrash of a gig tonight and get all my frustration out. That feels better. And maybe I'll get drunk and pull a groupie after the show, which will make me feel better at least for a short while. Or maybe I should just give up and start taking narcotics and mug random Canadian journalists for my smack money...

So I have a job interview set for Tuesday. I'm not even sure I understand what the position even is - a quality coordinator. They want someone who is detail oriented (anally retentive, moi?) and understands databases, so I guess I'm qualified. The pay looks good. The downside is, it's for a PR firm. Yes, going over to the Dark Side.

Ach well.

Last night I dreamed I was a junkie. That was really bizarre. I was riding around on the back of a routemaster (yes, on the back. Not in it, on it, like in this weird jumpseat at the back, clinging on to the rails) with Pete Doherty, trying to find smack. GET OUT OF MY SUBCONSCIOUS, I DON'T WANT TO BE DREAMING ABOUT YOU. This worries me.

OK, maybe all it means is that I shouldn't fall asleep watching the Velvet Underground on the C4 rocknroll hall of fame, or something. Who knows.
