Anyone remember that guy from Big Pig who tried to start a trend of having one arm tanned and one pale? Mentalist.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

i think he'll find plenty of truck drivers who thought of that first

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 28 April 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

He ever had a mid-bicep tan line, like what you get when you wear loads of short-sleeved tee-shirts, but the other way round.

i got my very own copy of Bonk the other day. it's not quite as pleasurable a nostalgic experience as re-buying the first Falling Joys album was

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 28 April 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

i got a box set of all three falling joys albums last year. for $24!! bargain. i haven't thrown out the cassettes though.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 28 April 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

xpost yeah i liked the clouds very much too at that time, and for some reason i remember the falling joys songs and albums a lot better but i definitely enjoy the clouds more when i listen to them now. if you follow me.

another one that i had a re-listen to recently but wasn't overly excited about anymore was the hummingbirds

yeah penny century was a pretty early one but there were a couple before it. i held out and got a jewelcase version because the early digipaks had a habit of falling to bits.

I also have a Wonderstuff digipak from around the same period - it was an aussie tour ep, has a really cool dub remix of "Circlesquare" on it.

I missed the actual tour of course though, didnt I? Was all ready to go see them at the ANU, had a big fuckoff fight with my b/f and chucked the shits and stayed home instead.

Ah, the 90s.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 April 2005 02:52 (twenty years ago)

I fear at 18 i was in the best relationship i'll ever have.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:12 (twenty years ago)

I gave up on Kevin Smith for some reason. I think I just got bored with Quirky Jersey Comedy #23984723.

In some ways I'm actually getting to be more comfortable in my skin as I get older. Occassionally I even sort of like myself...but only partially. Still a long way to go with the whole self-improvement caper.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

i feel more and more comfortable in my skin every single year. i didn't start liking myself till i was around 25, but i've become infinitely more likeable the last 3 years for sure (interestingly, this coincided with me giving up pot and coming out of a long term relationship). i reckon i'll be at my peak at age 30.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

No, not every day.

Just every time shit comes down at school.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:24 (twenty years ago)

Life is what you make it. Clichéd, yes, but fist me sideways with a pomegranate if it isn't true. I know someone who literally didn't start living until she was about 55, when her oppressive husband died and she went mental and really made something of her life. In the past five years she's done more than a lot of people do in 80.

heaps of people i know have had a crisis at 28!

Mine hit at 29. Wasn't really a crisis, more an "oh shit I'm getting older I'd best start doing things" period. That got me into weights, writing, etc., all of which I'm still doing and have no plan to drop.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:26 (twenty years ago)

That and the realisation that I could die tomorrow.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the conversation folks, made me feel much better about my situation.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:28 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

You know someone in a similarly oppressive situation? Or you just don't like your dad?

Mikey: You're heaps young. You know you hate this career early which is brilliant, so make changes now! Now, while you're still unbound by things like kids.

Haitch: Um, like thinner than now? You're certainly not fat or anything.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah although yet again I will send this thread into the deep ranges of uncomfortable, my father is very abusive. Has been his whole life. I have no doubt my Mum could've been a professor of something, or I dunno, something good that made her feel important and special, but she stayed with him.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

Man, it just kills me because I...I... love the kids! Seriously, what are they gonna do without me! The little doofuses!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

Kate, you're not going to let anything like that keep you down, you truck no shit with that kinda rubbish. Just get out there and splurge, trying everything and she might take some tips from you.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

yes but

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

my father is very abusive.

Shit. That kind of things tears me up. I'm so fortunate in that both my parents are incredibly gentle [they both used to smack me as a kid but that's another story]

It must be hard living with them then, knowing this?

Mikey, is there something else you could do with kids?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I walk on eggshells constantly.

But anyhow, to Mikey: I dealt with this a long time ago. I don't let it get me down, no point really. I know that despite everything, I turned out okay, passable at least.

It just drives home to me how important it is to be happy in a relationship. Although I've made mistakes in the past, it's always at the forefront of my mind that putting up with crap and being unhappy is a horrible way to waste your life.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

Haitch: Um, like thinner than now?

yes!

haitch (haitch), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

[xp] Yep. I don't get why anyone puts up with crap in a relationship. 'Er indoors and I are absolute equals, we respect each other equally, and there's not even the suggestion of abuse in our relationship, and this is after seven years. I know we're not the only ones.

its a hard thing to understand. you see it happening and you're pulling your hair out.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

That's why I rarely discuss it. In fact I don't even know why I am now. Mum says I'm far too open with people. Need a muzzle.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

And I guess everyone you tell has a magic suggestion that's rubbish. "Hey what you should do is..." etc.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

Sort of yeah.

It's one of those things where theres really nothing anyone can do, so talking about it just makes people feel helpless and sad.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

Yeah. And they don't know what to say, so they don't say anything, and it just gets awkward.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

its this "you can do anything" self determination thing that we all believe in but sometimes it seems like trying to teach a dog to be free.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

Pretty much.

And then I change the subject to save them from feeling too bad like.....

I just made a really tasty stew and I've been cooking the meat for hours, so it's all tender and yummy.

I had no red wine to put in though, so I put in bacardi. I don't think thats Jamie Oliver approved.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Thursday, 28 April 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

Jamie Oliver's ace, he goes "now put in a handful of this <grabs handful>" and all the people like me who can't cook go "HOW MUCH IS A HANDFUL IN EXACT ML PLEASE"

i prefer Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares to be honest.

haitch (haitch), Thursday, 28 April 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

I never measure anything when cooking! You just get to know what things need to be exactly nmeasured (cakes and the like), and what you can wing it with, like adding vegetables to a stir fry, or chucking in salt.

That lunchlady, she's an absolute angel, so determined to make it all work! Great show. Even if Oliver is a painfully naive arse. He just doesnt get it - if the kids want junk food, make pretend junk food! I dont know why he didnt try that. ie pizzas, with fresh stuff on. etc. Oh maybe he couldnt on the budget, i dunno.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 April 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

The penny will drop with him soon, I'm sure - he's a smart guy and a great chef. He even said at one point, if I recall aright, 'I'm going to cover the vegetables with cheese'. BINGO. You've got to outsmart the little shits. Also - ahem - WHY are they giving them a choice between his healthy food and the junk food. NO. NO. NO FUCKING CHOICE.

The dinner lady rocks, doesn't she? She's a diamond.

moley, Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:31 (twenty years ago)

yeah, fuck a choice, just feed 'em right, the little shits.

I went to a show on that Wonder Stuff tour! god bless the days when indie bands could come out here, play some pub shows, add on a bunch more because they were doing well, go around the country, come back, add on all-ages shows at big fuck-off theatres.

it doesn't really interest me i have to say, although i would have liked the 7".

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

i think you only get the 7" if you actually subscribe to it, and even then there's no guarantee. i was wondering if the writers are all directly sourced from mono?

i wouldn't be surprised. name names!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

i left it at home, i'm at uni now, so i can only post the ones i remember offhand. when i said 'just picked it up' i actually meant yesterday.

the first article is about tom morgan and his wife, refers repeatedly to nic dalton and was written by jacqueline someone - dalbert? the editor is danny bos. ummmm one of the photogs is amy walters or gilbert or something. that's all i've got in my memory bank i think. there are some very nice photos in there actually. there is also quite a cool article about dom mariani and that mathers chappy

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

i think andy calvert is another contributor. some of the articles are dreadfully wanky, but i guess that's par for the course in most music mags hey. there's a nice little review of snowman in there.

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:05 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:06 (twenty years ago)

i have an additional gamecube controller

i have ninja gaiden for the xbox (50 percent off)

i have def jam vendetta for the gamecube (10 percent off)

cait's going to be very happy. she loves an opportunity to wipe the floor wit' me.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:08 (twenty years ago)

i wanna get Def Jam Vendetta and use Ludacris to beat up everyone else. and possibly fr33k da laydeez, if they exist in such a game, he'd be good at that at least.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:10 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to play it tonight and trashtalk my girl with luda-lyrics.

WATCH OUT FOR MY MEDALLION, MY DIAMONDS ARE RECKLESS - IT FEELS LIKE A MIDGET IS HANGING FROM MY NECKLACE!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:12 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

it's a fighting game, but there's definitely an aspect of hooking up with the ladies and flashing the bling around.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:36 (twenty years ago)

there was a game a while ago where you had to chase the savage and rape her wasn't there?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

i am so 95 sorry :( the kids get some games. b is currently enamoured of spyfox. he's 6.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

...sounds like Manhunt. They banned that. Nasty piece of work. Didn't hold much truck with that at all.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

my brother in law bought me something called "enemy engaged" for xmas - but i don't have the RAM to run it.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 30 April 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

Wow lovely! Its like a Midsummer Nights Dream :) Hott bod too.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 30 April 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

Yeah the photo's pretty damn good too :)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 30 April 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

He ain't pretty...he's my brother.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

Well he's got a nice figure. Dead set I wish I had that body.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

I thought you did. It always appears that way in the photos I've seen of you.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, me too! HALL-OH!

Though, my jeans be fallin' off and this shirt be loose!

I'll be heading to the gym and an introductory kung fu lesson next week.

Then, the week after that, Year9 Survival Camp. Shiiiit.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:52 (twenty years ago)

Here's another. It's a very gay photo of a very straight boy :)

I thought you did. It always appears that way in the photos I've seen of you.

One? ;)

I'm not that lean and I'm not that brown and I'm not that cut, so no :)

Mikey: How much longer on the Optifast thing?

xpost: oh brilliant, really striking composition

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

Good luck with survival camp Mikey, sounds like torture already!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

Couple of weeks - next week and three weeks after I come back from camp.

No fucking way I'm doing it on camp - but the usual food on camp is surprisingly good and sledding down a river is going to burn a lot of energy.

I'm dealing well with it. I'm not particularly hungry and I'm allowed vegies with certain condiments.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm not that lean and I'm not that brown and I'm not that cut, so no :)

He doesn't even work out, he's a painter by trade! As for the brown-ness, he lives on the sunshine coast and the tungsten lighting helps.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

I really must start putting the new camera of mine to good use. I'd like to try my hand at some Cindy Shermanesque self portraiture (yeah I know thats cliched). I need a tripod though I think. Also, I am completely shite at applying interesting makeup. I dont think I have the face for crazy makeup - every time someone's tried to really goth me up Ive just looked like a sad old tart.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

Have you got a big box of props, Kate? Any skulls? Next you will need to get a stuffed raven, so you can put one in my author book jacket photos.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

So Kate, come down here with your wigs and do me over!

(ooer hehe)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

Back off bitch, she's going to gussy me up first! Rowr!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

I get to see my precious new Doctor Who episode tonight!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm down end of the month. I'll do you all over then :P

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

Have you got a big box of props, Kate? Any skulls? Next you will need to get a stuffed raven, so you can put one in my author book jacket photos

I certainly do. A suitcase full to be exact.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm down end of the month. I'll do you all over then :P

OMG FAP [work permitting]

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 30 April 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

awesome-ah powah.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Saturday, 30 April 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

Oh geez, i'm feeling all self-conscious about my weight now. Meeting semi-strangers argh! :)

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 07:20 (twenty years ago)

Youve met me before doofus ;P

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 30 April 2005 07:22 (twenty years ago)

Yeah but not the others!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 07:22 (twenty years ago)

Happy Buddha's Birthday!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Saturday, 30 April 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

Hahahaha Kate those photos are wonderful. They could not be gayer.

moley, Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

Ten minutes have passed and I'm still laughing. Such a great sense of humour in your stuff.

moley, Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

Thanks! I'm glad it comes across well. Life's far too short to be a serious artist! :)

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:08 (twenty years ago)

Happy MayDay all! FITE DA MAN etc.

It was also Samhain last night. I was invited to a wiccan samhain ceremony by my good friend K, but declined cos I think I'm a bit scared of witchy hippy artist chicks. I like the idea of samhain tho, its like the Wiccan Day of the Dead.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:41 (twenty years ago)

what is the order of events at a wiccan samhain ceremony? i think i would have gone out of curiosity! that sounds really cool. i went to a school friend's engagement party last night. i discoveed that i have reached the age where being single makes me an object of pity amongst coupled friends. i didn't realise that cliche was actually true.

gem (trisk), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

Can I just pop my head in here real quick to say that I love Kate? Like, carnally? Kate, you're awesome and I want you.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

i don't think you need to ask permission to pop your head in to say things like that! just do it

gem (trisk), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

Tryin ta be as polite as possible about being lewd.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:51 (twenty years ago)

yay kate doth rule!

It was also Samhain last night. I was invited to a wiccan samhain ceremony by my good friend K, but declined cos I think I'm a bit scared of witchy hippy artist chicks. I like the idea of samhain tho, its like the Wiccan Day of the Dead.

!!!!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 1 May 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Its true! They sit in circle and I think talk about/bring forth the spirits of people (and animals even, apparently) who've passed on. Lots of crying and emotion and love and stuff. I dont know much else about what it involves in a ceremonial sense. I should ask K sometime, except she'll get all excited and want me to come to her wiccan circle do's and I dunno if I want to... hm.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

the !!!'s were b/c i thought that a samhain would be THE perfect place to find you at some time :-)

anyway, from the BIGGEST DOUCHEBAG IN MUSIC ilm thread, i present the following to y'all for yer amusement/enragement:

The Cave / Corgan exchange, briefly because I'm tired, was Corgan identifying Cave as "English," Nick correcting him, and Corgan trying to laugh it off, saying something to the effect of "Oh, sorry, I'm from the midwest, they're the same thing to me," and Cave responding with a very icy, "well, they're NOT," followed by an uncomfortable silence

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 1 May 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

Translation:

"Oh, sorry, I'm an idiot."
"Yes, you ARE."

slightly more subdued (kenan), Sunday, 1 May 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

Haha what a twonk Corgan is.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

'twonk'is a fine expression.

moley, Sunday, 1 May 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

every time someone's tried to really goth me up Ive just looked like a sad old tart

b-b-but...this is perfect

no offence Trayce, just that yaknow...art and stuff. cindy sherman as a sad old tart etc

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 1 May 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

not that i believe you either.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 1 May 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Wonderful photos Kate, I'm definitely going to draw on your services one day.

I went shopping for clothes today. It was only moderately depressing as opposed to suicidally so. I'm just outta reach of the XL's.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Sunday, 1 May 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)

Hey Adam, I caught up with Doctor Who, Eps 1-6...

MY GOD, HOW MUCH DOES THIS SHOW RULE?!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Sunday, 1 May 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

who's your favourite doctor Michael? Mine's probably John Pertwee or Tom Baker.

moley, Sunday, 1 May 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

Tom, gotta be Tom. Though, jeeze, I'm bloody impressed by Christopher Eccleston so far!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Sunday, 1 May 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

oh man. I shouldn't drink so much while trying to reformat a computer!

haitch (haitch), Sunday, 1 May 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

Lame electroclash is the lamest of all.

moley, Sunday, 1 May 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

FUCK MOTHEFUCKER FUCK FUCK FUCK.

I just popped my ATM card into my pocket, walked the 10 mins down the road to the bottle shop, grabbed a cask, and... my FUCKING ATM CARD IS MISSING. I was rather embarrased and had to leave without booze, walked all the way back home scanning the footpath for said card (no luck), now I suppose I'll have to report it lost and get a new one.

HOW THE FUCK DID I LOSE A CARD OUT OF A POCKET.

Nick has now had to go in my stead, and go further cos now the milkbar is shut so he'll have to go to the 7/11 instead, and I be he thinks I did this on purpose to make him go get stuff and now I have no card and argh argh argh *smash cranky rarrrr*

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

Whoa, Kenan's comments made a me get a lump in my throat, like...out of fear.

Also because I....nah nevermind.

Oh and Kenan, if you come back to the thread...trust me, you don't want *this*

I don't think you're ready for this jelly (thighs).

But you can love the thought of me, I'm down with that shit.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

That's sucks Trayce. Embarassing too.

My mum has banned me from alcohol, and chocolate and all of the good things in life.

It's like being at some nasty fat farm or something.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

Whoa, I can't even blame drunkness for my horrendous typos as I'm all too sober.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

I am so pissed off cos I am starting to think Im some kind of subconciously clumsy dickhead like the blonde cow in Neighbours, Im really fucking pissed off at myself now. :(

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

And now I will have to call and cancel my card which means Im without money til i get a new one, unless nick pays me the rent he owes me which is already a week or two overdue and dont start me on that ARGH *SPASTIC TANTRUM*

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

Hey, get this...when my mum was in america late last year, she rammed her ATM card into a gap in the plastic of the machine instead of the slot and couldn't get it out again.

Now thats stupid!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

haha :D Ive seen ppl do that before.

I've seen people do it to, but while overseas on holidays? Luckily she had a credit card or she would've been quite fucked.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

It was some Chinese guy at the casino, I dont think he understood how ATMs worked.

Man this BBC feed is cool. If only the picure wasnt like a shitty static slide show. Ima get 1.5mb dsl if this bbc feed becomes permanent, I love BBC2.

Happy Labour day!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

i am at work. it just all seems so pointless. such a waste of time.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

labour day? then how come i'm at work?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

yes, when are unions gonna get us conditions that allow us to never actually turn up?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

it's LABOUR day = that means that you LABOUR on that day!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

well i guess doing some work would be an interesting change

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

Hahah.. get this guys! About half an hour after my FUCKITYFUCK post, Nick came back from very kindly going back out for me (I fear I chucked a nasty tanty, me not drinky teh booze anymore this week), and HE FOUND MY CARD ON THE FOOTPATH OMG. I love that man.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

the powah of DRUNK TRAYCE that's what made the ATM card reappear.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

Trayce is currently very angry at herself, and very exhausted, Trayce has to get one wagon on, or else Trayce might put her job at risk. Trayce sucks.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 May 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

It's labour day where I am. I forgot it wasn't a national thing.

So much for a day off anyway, I just realised one of my assignments is late and the other is due friday and I haven't started it.

I suck.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Sunday, 1 May 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

so much doom and gloom for a monday morning. actually it's about the normal amount for a monday morning.

i learned how to program a drum machine properly on the weekend. first big lesson i learned: it's soooooo much easier to make a boring pattern interesting than it is to make an interesting one from scratch.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Sunday, 1 May 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Yes Trayce, booze doesn't agree with you.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Sunday, 1 May 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

No it does not. Horrible stuff.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

Bwahaha, another internet freakout on the boards today. Seriously, I wish there was an implant that charts changes in brain chemistry and shuts down access to the boards to a person who is having a 'stabby day'.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:47 (twenty years ago)

Aaron is actually a really nice/cool guy. I genuinely believe he's sufffering from mania atm, and as such he kinda should keep off the net for his own sake, but the more people have a go at him the more he'll have to prove and its just bait to him.

I know this scenario far too well. Many years ago my friend David went from being a sweet, intelligent kid to developing full blown psychotic schizophrenia in a very short timespan. At first everyone looked out for him and allowed for his behaviour - I mean you can't do anything else really - but after months and months of relentless, unending rage and craziness, disruptiveness online, and terrible self-harm (I remember several overdoses at clubs friends were forced to have to deal with/clean up), his friends one by one cracked, and stopped caring.

Its such a horrible situation. Are we supposed to walk away from people being like this? No, someone needs to be there for them, but more often than not they push everyone away, so its tricky. This is kind of upsetting for me really.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

Hence, denying themselves access for the day, they can travel through the mania whilst saving us all a lot of headaches.

Banning for 24 periods would be a good idea.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

24 periods

mikey's in school mode!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Haha ;D

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

DETENTION FOR YOU SONNY!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Unfortunately, yeah...

God I miss food.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

i appeared to have missed it all, again. mikey - try not clicking on any threads but the mongrels one - works for me!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

it's true

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

i am listening to the new marianne faithfull record. songs by pj harvey and nick cave.

also: TS: women with overpowering perfume vs men who smoke too much

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

i prefer the latter. i get bad sneezes from most perfumes.

is there a jarvis song on the MF record?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

Ugh overpowering perfume (and atershave) is the work of the devil, honestly. Hate it. Blechhh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

yes i almost threw up on the train today.

no jim - there's a damon albarn

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

dang

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

hmm maybe i should sell my blur singles box set for quick cash

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

does anyone else really like arcade fire that much? it's not bad but it's all a bit emo & the bunnymen really. find it hard to understand why people are going ape for it.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

shit no - what do you take me for?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

haha

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

oh god is it hometime yet?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

yes

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

thank god for that

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

the albarn song was shit. are you a blur fan jim?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

not really. i liked a couple of their singles. on the whole i'm a bit 'don't mention the war' when it comes to britpop. i look on people who are still hung up on that era with a mixture of hatred and disgust.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:42 (twenty years ago)

but it's all a bit emo & the bunnymen really

*loses shit*

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

it was a very weird time. i was living near camden (in tufnull pk innit guv) at the time. the only time i went to the good mxer me mate tried to pick some blurmods.

xpost yes very good i laughed at that too!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

hey esoj, do you ALSO hate pulp?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

i don't hate pulp, quite the contrary. i just find that particular record irritating and unlikeable.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:54 (twenty years ago)

which record?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

different class

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

the only pulp songs that i like are "common people" and "trees" -- the rest, i think is complete cack. i thought that i found a compatriot -- alas! :-(

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

I like 'Tunnel', but I can't listen to it much.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

I only really get to listen to music loud these days while driving and I don't need no pussy emo music when I'm driving to a job that's giving me grief at the moment.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

argh no common people! aieee!!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

haha i like the shatner version

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

tunnels is probably their best song

xpost craziness

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

i don't need no pussy emo EVER.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, pity it's the first track.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

wait...pulp is emo?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

If Pulp is emo, I am Evan Dando.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:14 (twenty years ago)

he means arcade fire. or does he?????

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Wait, now I wanna be Evan Dando.

I wish I had shut up on the aaron thread, the noise wankers like cutty and blount are having a go at me now, wtf.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

what is the aaron thread? blount is a noize wanker?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:32 (twenty years ago)

I dont know anymore, all I know is this place is full of nobs and I'm sick of being polite.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

gaz lied, it wasn't hometime at all :(

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

WHAT THE FUCK IS NOIZE ANYWAY>

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:26 (twenty years ago)

life put through broken electronics

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

so sick of being alive

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

I like 'Tunnel', but I can't listen to it much.

Oh my stars, I can't believe anyone likes "Tunnel", really I can't. Ah well, it's better than "Silence"...

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

the australian postpunk bits which aren't in the new reynolds book are up at discog 2 if anyone cares

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

I dont know anymore, all I know is this place is full of nobs and I'm sick of being polite.

Getting more and more true, Trayce. People attacking you, wtf? A more gracious poster there never was.

I've completely fucked up my assignments, doing the wrong things in two assignments that were for different subjects and handing them in the wrong ones. I appear to be completely stuffed as a result. DEAR WORLD, COMFORT ME NOW.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

never admit you did wrong. it was a deconstructive strategy.

mollycoddlr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

No! I really did. Methodology lecturer: "Um, this is theoretical frameworks you did in this assignment.". Theory lecturer: "This is all methodology". Shit, I hope they let me resubmit.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:45 (twenty years ago)

eep.

i don't especially like reynolds' writing or taste. although i was mostly enjoying the aussie section of that discog up until the end when he started listing bands who barely existed let alone held any importance.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

i never liked mr uddich schmuddich. i liked the comp of eps that came out before. the one with the cartoon drawing.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

i know the one you mean but can't remember the title. i love 'history of rock and roll vol 1'

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

anyone would think reynolds wasn't actually in australia at the time!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

hhaha

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

hey jim

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

waaaah

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

Reynolds has brought rockist values to music other than rock! I wish people would stop wanking over him (and then, as per that other thread, you know...).

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

indeed!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 05:00 (twenty years ago)

Reynolds, once the great champion of the cocteau twins, spelt Liz Fraser's name wrong. Yeesh.

In other news I am exhausted and miserable and having second thoughts about this new job, after some "interesting" events today involving an american boss who seems to think consulting with his NOC team means calling a meeting and telling everyone no ifs or buts, theyre suddenly on rostered shifts as of next week. Me and Dom escape it - for now - but if I eventually have to work 24/7 shift work I dont think I'll be staying in this job long. I dont think I can do that shit again.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 08:43 (twenty years ago)

You okay Trayce, you just seem a little off-kilter at the moment. Is it just settling into this new (perhaps sketchy) job?

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

Im not great no, but I'm ok. I suppose getting used to working again is part of it, plus I'm just feeling generally down on myself at the moment, and some personal frustrations I wont go into here. I'll manage.

I really am pissed about the job tho - they were deceptively vague about what my actual role was (I didnt apply for an advertised job, just gave them my CV) and not only have I not signed a contract or position description (nor's D), our teammate today claims we wont get to, the company doesnt "like" contracts, wtf? I want a solid, laid out position description, and preferably KPIs of some kind as a guide, so I know theyre not gonna shit on me by coming in one monday and saying "oh by the way now youre a network engineer on call and you work graveyard shifts every 3 weeks, no excuses" or some shit.

I also really dont like our boss. He's a cranky, unfriendly american who has only been there 3 months and is forcing a bunch of untenable changes on the network team who are already short staffed and stretched.

notTr4yc3 (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

Or maybe it all just looks bleak today cos I'm so fecking tired. I get depressed when Im tired.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

CHEER UP MONGRELFUXORS.

moley, Monday, 2 May 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Americans are lovely.

I think you should kill a man, just to watch him die. That would distract you.

Things'll pick up - it's almost winter, we're all bound to start slipping in our moods for the next couple of months.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

I need to buy a new heater.

Me and Nick are planning for a fancy overnight stay in a posh CBD hotel, with a dinner and movie. I cant decide where tho - crown looks nice but is kinda pricey.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

What about the Windsor? I've heard good things.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

TOTALLY EXPENSIVOR. Also, a bit too frilly for my tastes. But yeah thought of it.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

But like $500+ a room? eff dat.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, shit, of course, it's on top of Collins Street.

There's gotta be a nice, posh oldschool hotel that isn't a SofiHilton.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

Yeah. Tho I dont mind fancy new joints, as long as theyre not box-tiny.

Even a serviced apt would be nice if it did room service brekkies. We could order in a masseuse or something.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

fuck a crown. i thought the adelphi was fantastic, myself

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha, I'm totally some kind of luddite. I hate these new steel and marble constructions.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

very classy. seems to have been geared towards the gay man and is all the better for it.

Happy Tuesday!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

what're you doing up then? the possums in my roof had some kind of fight or mad fit this morning and woke me at 4.30. despite my banging on the ceiling they continued and continued. thump thump thump hiss. they were probably mating in fact.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

i thought i had possums in my roof but i fear it was actually just my cats

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

sneaky.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes possums like to come home late and have cheese on toast and a loud chat and though it can be a bit noisy we should cut them slack.

estela (estela), Monday, 2 May 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

Can't face reading ths 120 posts I missed. Hope things work out somehow Trayce, even if it means leaving :(

We had a possum in our SPARE BEDROOM on Saturday night. Spent between 2am and 3am trying to guide the fucker out the back door.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

he was drunk?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

We had to set up a pathway so it'd go towards the back door. After about 15 minutes it worked, the possum ran through to the kitchen. I think we did something to scare it though, because it hid behind the fridge for 20 minutes. I threw pegs at it and eventually it left.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

sigh. my gf is going to london tomorrow and i'm in fucking melbourne, at work. seems a bit unfair somehow.

this week is a mongrel disaster! are you ok adam?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

I am morosely eating a rice pudding and wishing I had a dream to hold onto.

estela (estela), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

its getting worse! nothings any fun anymore.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

how can we hold on to a dream?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

i wish i had some sick days left

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

Me? I'm ace. Yesterday I had an interview which went well and this morning I discovered that another job I want hasn't been filled yet. Furthermore I have been sleeping and getting the urge to write again.

er, xpost

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

you must inspire the rest of us sad cases then. i have sick days left but can't take them cos...everyone else has. i'm here alone.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

that would be alright for me actually

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

It's weird you know, because nobody will give me a job and I've been broke for so long I'm used to eating bread all day and not going out at night. I think being in such an incredibly bad job for so long has given me a keen sense of perspective. Compared to the years 1999-2004 inclusive, this year is pure bliss.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

It's nice having NORMAL problems like NORMAL people. I think I'm probably enjoying that too.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

I finished my rice pudding and put the container into the rubbish bin.

estela (estela), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

'Have the new paperclips arrived yet, Enid?'

estela (estela), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

i have replaced the reciever carefully after a brief chat with my boss and i am scratching my head.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

i seem to have forgotten to shave.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

i have been considering standing up to get a cup of tea for the last 45 minutes

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

hmm losing weight, that sounds alright

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

the big big boss here saw me in the kitchen yesterday and said: so, when are you leaving us?

i went: ur, um, i didn't know i was

he looked puzzled, and then said o of course its XXXX.

XXXX is a woman.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

Ahahahahahaha.

As crap as my last company was, at least the big big [local] boss made the effort to know everyone by first name.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

no-one loves everything anymore!

haitch (haitch), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

Mr estela has given me a demerit point over the phone, for nothing!
And I can't give him one back because the demerit point system is a one-way street, he says.
Mr estela seems slightly cruel, at times.

estela (estela), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

I always hated everything.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

We want to buy two cats.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

That will prove for once and for all that money can buy you love after all.

estela (estela), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

my cats were free! but also expensive.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 2 May 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

roffles I got an email from Aaron. "just be cool dude - want some of my music". WTF. If this whole thing is a lame plot to sell his shitty mp3s he can fuck orf.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

i listened to one of his songs a few weeks ago when he was spatting on the noize board and it really is dreadfully shitty stuff. it's not even good for what it is.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

So I shouldn't use a similar to spruik my short stories? "YOUSE ARE ALL CUNTS WITH BRAIN DAMAGE I HOPE YOU DIE oh and please purchase my 8,000 word epic portraying love and loss in St Kilda's bohemian east"

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

I would read that.

There are some new developments on the 'yars' relationship thread.

estela (estela), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 01:21 (twenty years ago)

icky ones

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

After I read them I absentmindedly ate another rice pudding (tropical mango flavour).

estela (estela), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I get it.

ALL YOU FUCKING CUNTS COME SEE THE SALIVATION ARMY TOMORROW AT BARBUKKA at 8pm.

Better?

NO, WAIT, IT'S JUST THAT EVERYBODY HERE IS CRAZY!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

gaz: orbit is referring to the collection of the late boss of b0mp records.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

whoaaaah!

are you gonna make a bid jim? (heh)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

only for the denise & co

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

do you imagine a collection such as that could be sold in one piece or is it inevitable that it would be all split up? seems a shame

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:41 (twenty years ago)

i assume it would either be sold as one unit or a proper auction would be conducted. if it gets sold as one piece to a store or dealer, they will almost certainly make stupid profit selling it off individually on ebay so i think that makes selling it as one piece is a bad thing.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

rare record dealers are pretty much all scum. often clueless and always greedy.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

had a bad experience or ten jim?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

i've not been especially burned myself but i've seen it happen and i've heard many a story too. there's only one record dealer i have genuine respect for and that's Jules Normington.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

it makes me really sad to think of someone spending so many years and so much effort and getting loads of joy building up a collection like that and having heaps of sentimental value stored up in it, then it all gets split up and sold to annoying people. *sniff*

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

i expect my widow will go through them one by one, remembering the good times, and telling the kids stories of me

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

i think mine would all end up in a skip

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

can you let me know when yr planning on carking it jim?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

are you in the Salivation Army Sash? Adrian was talking about them on lk the other day bless his skinny tie and cotton socks.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 03:53 (twenty years ago)

doh!

did mr estela say that? cos he's in charge of the demerit points i thought.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 03:54 (twenty years ago)

*sad whisper* You are right mullygrubbr. I just wanted to give out some demerit points instead of always being the only one that gets them.

estela (estela), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

thats all right. you be the demerit master of this thread then. he won't find out.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

To put sliding doors back in, you put the top in first and push-hold the door up as much as it will go, then you can get the bottom in too. This way, you don't have to jack up the ceiling.

Um... yeah!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

nah i tried that

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear. Maybe there are runners up in there that it has to slot onto or something? I have tackled many sliding doors (don't know why?) and some shower-screen ones can be *really* difficult. Sometimes you have to push them up above the runners then drop them down into the bottom & slot them onto some other runner and then get the top bit to slide onto its runner too... Is there a pelmet that unscrews or something? Good luck!

miele kitty (miele), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

it's a bit of a concern when the only thing holding up the ceiling of your house is the sliding door

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

crowbars are the essential all round fix it tool marvels

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

You OK Stuchbery? You seem to be really having a rough time. Is there anything we can do?

moley, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Yes, include me in the "we"....but not the wee.

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

Hey guys, yeah, I'm cool. I just need to go get some antibiotics for this chest infection and catch up on my sleep. I'm suffering a little depression, but that's a perennial thing.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i'm cut out for relationships, at all :(

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

You are, you just doubt yourself too much.

Oh and...happy Wednesday everybody!

I just found out the most marvelous thing yesterday....because my other classmates are doing prac and I am not, I have no more classes except Intermedia (my favorite one) for the rest of the semester! Yay!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

I've found a blog right after my own heart!

http://kkahnharris.typepad.com/

moley, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Stuchbery, have you tried St John's Wort? Many people I know swear5 by it. I even tried it myself for a while and I thought I detected an imperceptible increase in my sense of well being (which is invariably high), but some of my friends say the difference it makes to theirs is huge.

moley, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

That blog rocks Moley!

Kate / Productive Pedagog (papa november), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

The guy who writes it rocks too - I've read a coupla articles by him. He looks like the hero of The Hebrew Hammer!

I thought I detected an imperceptible increase

I am an oxymoron

Now that equals one one hot Jewish guy!

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

goodness. hungover.

i had a 'rehearsal' last night that entirely consisted of drinking beer and trying to come up with a new band name. at the end of it we decided not to change the name anyway, rendering the previous four hours of discussion effectively pointless.....

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

i think these were seriously considered:

some discarded ones included:

nim chimpsky

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

geez, they all kind of suck.

tugboat is better.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

yeah pretty much all our suggestions sucked. our reasons for wanting to change the name didn't really stand up to scrutiny.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

Have had... about... 1 hour sleep... am at end of tether... Nick started work at 9am yeatderday and didnt get home again til FIVE THIRTY THIS MORNING WTF... I fear I was a bit rude to him when he woke me at 3am to tell me he was still alive.. poor bastard. We can't keep doing this. Theres no way I am working 24/7 shifts, not on top of all this, we'll crash and burn :(

In other news OMG aaron sent me an mp3 he claims is a "fucked up acapella" of Ivo by the Cocs. I'm too scared to give it a listen.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

I am also *this close* to marching into Nicks work and threaetning to report his boss to ... whoever, for making his staff work 20 hour days on pathetic minimum wage salaries.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

Just report it, don't march in to anyone.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

yeah, exactly

there's only one record dealer i have genuine respect for and that's Jules Normington.

I am going to sit here at my desk and weep gently for the long-lost days of the paper PTV catalogue, possibly until lunch

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

*Is* it against the law to have staff work such long hours unpaid? I mean they are on a set wage, and get no overtime, and next to no time-in-lieu (this is what EA are doing in the US and they're being class action sued for it). I wish he'd just quit, but he knows my feelings on the issue and I really have to stop harping at him :/

I'm just so frustrated.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

Is he getting breaks?

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

Depends on his contract Trayce. Pretty bloody shitty though, whichever way you look at it.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

Technically right now he has no contract at all, its a complicated situation (theyre a very small startup company, I dont know whats going on really).

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

maybe

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

actually no - here Trayce

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

He needs to get one contract to protect himself. 'Small startup' companies are dangerous because they can expect blood from their employees.

Does Nick realise there's no such thing as loyalty anymore, and that one day the company could just dump him?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Oh he knows all that for sure, but if they got rid of him now they'd be fucked, he did most of the 3d models and a lot of the code, hahah =)

Still.. he wants to quit i think.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

[oops xpost] When I was let go with 11 other people, some of those people got all upset because they'd done so much for the company [long hours unpaid etc] and just been dumped. We had to explain to them that loyalty is a thing of the past, and that there's no point being nice to a company outside your job description because you won't get it back.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:55 (twenty years ago)

the problem comes when there are people within the organisation (employees like you) who are decent and you try to help them and the company EXPLOITS this.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

(ie i'm loyal to this person cos he/she is ok)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:59 (twenty years ago)

Salivation Army tonight. 8pm, Barbukka. All y'all should be there.

Jim: Poss. band name: Severed Head & The Neck Fuckers.
People might think you're a Severed Heads tribute band though. But what's wrong with Tugboat, assuming that's the band that was considering a new name

Sasha on a different PC, Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

he's probably tired of the tuggers jokes. plus since they went krautrock...

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

i guess i just felt that, in melbourne anyway, that name was associated with underachievement and a lack of excitement. but i really don't think a name change will help us, in fact it would probably make us lose what little goodwill there is still left..

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

maybe a play which incorporates the current name? like, ah, the aussie tugboat

I'm sick of having no musical talent (excluding my insanely tight lyrical flow), I'm going to go down to the crossroads and wait for the devil.

Are there, in fact, crossroads anymore?

well done gemster!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

is it an internship?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

yipee!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

it means i got lots of offers for summer clerkships (yep they're internships) with the big firms. it pretty much means that my legal career has started as vacation clerks is where the firms recruit their articled clerks from. i am going to the dark side of the private sector!

phew i'm exhausted, all the wheeling and dealing and excitement to get all the dates sorted. also i lost a bet to my mate and i have to buy him a bottle of vodka. but i guess everyone's a winner since i lost the vodka BUT got the clerkships.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

AWESOME.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

Woohoo!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

yes it is awesome, you're right. i am basking in my own smugness at the moment, i imagine i'll be unbearably giddy for a couple of days. but it kinda confirms for me that i have done the right thing in putting my other job on hold to go back and do law full time. so it is very nice for me!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:44 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

yeah good news for the mongrel thread! haha i'll have to be diligent about rehearsing 'statutory' and not saying fuck every second word too.

this is the first time i've really truly felt like i'm doing the right thing, i've had nagging doubts in teh back of my mind since the start of semester. but now it feels like it is all ok! i got offers from my top 4 preferences! which means i am making the right choices in the firms i'm interested in as well. i could only take three though, that was a bit of a bummer.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

That Gwen Stefani album is the most terrible mishmash of tuneless embarassing crap I've ever heard.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 05:25 (twenty years ago)

Hey Jim did you know my mate Nadja looks TOTALLY like gwen stefani nowdays? She's dyed her hair blonde, and lost a ton of weight (sif she needed to even). Its scary.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 05:30 (twenty years ago)

that does sound scary..

Jim, TOm Ellard/Severed Heads drum machine is an 808 up to about 1984, where it becomes increasingly combined with MS-20 synth patches and distortions. After about 1985, the drum sound is mostly samples on the Ensonique sampler (Hot With Fleas) and then other samplers.

i don't think i even like music anymore.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

i love it still, just not anything being discussed today. unless someone has revived the annie thread of course

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

I just bought two BOOKS! BOOKS! Me! Buying BOOKS! What is the world coming to.

They're non fiction ones, but.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

did you buy the wu-tang manual?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i even like music anymore.

i felt that way today too

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Non-fiction is all I read....fiction is for timewasters :)

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

ILM is not funny often enough. I want more threads like that Paul Weller 'That's Entertainment' one.

Yes, fiction is strictly for liars and those who believe them.

moley (moley), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

FICTION.....is the work of the DEVIL!

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

NON FICTION IS FOR KNOWLEDGE CAPITALISTS. ACCUMULATE IT FUCKERS I'M SURE YOU'LL GET AHEAD

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

Haha I shouldve bought the wu-tang manual =) Somehow I doubt the Mary Martin shop would sell that but. So I got the new bill bryson one, and this interesting looking Edward deBono brain thing. Book thing. On brain. stuff.

Hm. Seems I need it.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

hi jed - that rhythm & sound record is tops though!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

I just finished reading Mother Tongue by Bryson. Pretty good, got bored with it towards the end though.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

anyway non fiction is just people with theories telling themselves (and you) that this is not a bunch of stuff that someone made up. telling lies in other words. fiction is more often less self deluded.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

That's true...and for the record I was just taking the piss :)

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

the last non-fiction book i read took me four years to finish

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

it was also the only book i read in those four years

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

1. that steely dan song that mentions musswellbrook

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

2. the decemberists - shanty for arethusa

We set to sail on the clipper that's bound for South Australia
The weather's warm there, the natives are dark and nubile.
But if you listen, quiet, you can hear the footsteps on the cross-trees
The ghosts of sailors passed, their spectral bodies clinging to the shrouds

gem (trisk), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:53 (twenty years ago)

the word terrible is not required when u2 are mentioned. it is a bit like using smelly in relation to poo.

Camping is alwways high school hell.

On my goshdarn BIRTHDAY in year 12 we went on a camp to some remote spot near Merimbula, to study beach fauna and things for biology. The camp consisted of these cool wooden triangular huts, with canvas doors, so like tent-shaped, but made of wood, on a platform. So we're dry and off the ground and etc.

And yet all these big haired greek girls whined and whined non stop about how horrible it was "omg i cant shower omg Im not going to the toilet in a HOLE omg omg this sucks OMG SPIDERS"

Faaark. Bunch of wussbags.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:00 (twenty years ago)

Also, I almost set fire to myself with the BBQ, the flames were coming out from under the hotplate and had I not been wearing a pure wool jumper I'dve gone up in melty plastic flames.

The half day hike along cliffs and things was pretty shit, too.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

fires are bad for camps i think. i got busted smoking on yr 12 camp as i put a ciggy butt in the bin without putting it out properly and unintentionally started a fire which came perilously close to lighting up/burning down one of the camp-hut thingos, and melted the PE teachers runners which were next to the back door. i gather i was not the sharpest tool in the shed at 16.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

Once on a school camp my neck seized up and I couldn't move my head. The supervisor bloke wouldn't let me go home, despite that fact that I couldn't move or eat or breathe etc. After loads of attempted screaming and getting incredibly cross for about six hours he eventually had me sent home.

The next year I refused to go to camp on this basis but they said "no, not good enough". So I wagged the whole week and didn't get in trouble. The end.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Wow they never forced us to go on camps, really, that year 12 one was the first and last time I ever did camp for school.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:12 (twenty years ago)

i've wanted to go camping for ages but the only people offering were mark & his girlfriend. something about going camping with a couple wasn't entirely appealing.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

I never went on camps. I didn't want to pay to be miserable for a couple of days. I was honest with my teachers: "Look, I just don't want to go. I think it's a waste of money and time. If you try and force me, I'll just get my parents to write some lies on a note to excuse me."

They knew better than to press any further. I think some of them were a bit scared of me.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

Wow they never forced us to go on camps

My school forced us to go on all the camps. We were forced to do APS competitive sports three times a week too. I HAD TO GIVE UP MY SATURDAYS because of those pig-headed cunts.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

School is Wesley College btw. I don't know if it's as fucking fascist as it used to be but I won't be sending my kids there.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:23 (twenty years ago)

haha of course it will be. schools are only going to get worse as the general paranoia level of the world rises

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:26 (twenty years ago)

The amount of shit they used to make us do so the world would think we were all happy was astonishing. Absolutely astonishing. Most people forget private schools are business out to make a profit but we didn't.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

what did you play, adam??

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

Me and my mates tried to pick team sports so we wouldn't have to do anything, like cricket and hockey. We stood on the outer corner of the field and talked about non-sport things until people started leaving.

If the school hadn't forced it upon us I reckon I'd have enjoyed sports. Stupid fuckers.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

we were forced to go on camps nearly every year, they were usually pure torture. that year 12 one was particularly awful, they sent us off in small groups with boys from our brother school in a belated attempt to instil skills in personal interaction with the opposite sex. the boys' teacher/supervisor person said i was like a magnolia because i had a 'nasty poisonous streak disguised as a sense of humour' in front of everyone, that did wonders for my self esteem.

yr 11 camp was good though, we went abseiling and caving.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:40 (twenty years ago)

You went to WESLEY? Bwahhh! Violet Crumbles!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:40 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:42 (twenty years ago)

I went to Yarra Valley Grammar School, I now work 50 metres down the road at L_____ C_____.

This here Year 9 camp is actually quite good, I know I make a fuss but I've actually enjoyed the last two year's journeys.

I encourage big bonfires at night and give the kids permission to swear the heads off at the start of the week (since we're in groups of 12, one teacher and a leader).
