So come late, Sundar!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 02:48 (twenty-four years ago)

So come late, Sundar!

-- Tantrum The Cat (tantrumtheca...), June 26th, 2001. (later)

Er, apparently I went back in time to write that.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:33 (twenty-four years ago)

three years pass...
I'm thinking mid-May(ish). Pick a date and a place, and we'll do it up.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 29 April 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

C'EST WHAT?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I can see where this is leading!

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

How did you guys end up getting kicked out of C'est What last week?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Kim went on a rampage.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure that soaking the bouncer with lighter fluid while brandishing a complementary matchbook was, in retrospect, a good idea.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Sundar and his friend tried to sit with us and order food + drinks.

I'm not kidding.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 April 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

I heard that the staff were basically a bunch of total pricks.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 29 April 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

The world's most useless hostess and 'The Night Manager' and the bouncer that nearly lost Sundar's birthday present in under 5 minutes were complete and total Beire Market pricks. The waitress (from prerenovation she says) and the jr bouncer who decided to go and find Sundar's gift without the aid of a headset were much better.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 April 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

My girlfriend got in her car this morning and took off for Toronto.

She's coming back though, I think.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 29 April 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

You know what they say:
Once you go to Toronto, you never go back pronto.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 April 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

And who, aside from you, says that?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 29 April 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

you know 'they'.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 April 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Oh shit!
I forgot to mention: me and DaveM are Dj'in a pub next Friday (May 6), and we wanted to invite y'all.
It's at the Underdown, on the corner of Berkeley and Gerrard.
Come or we will die.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 29 April 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Or, come or we'll have to get drunk by ourselves.,

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

And what's in it for us?

hmm xpost!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Uh, it's free.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

I will love you, always. I'll be there, forever AND a day.

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

(xxpost)

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

And so I finish another productive week.

Do you know how freaking hard it is to find Tonic Water in the PATH?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

(Flyer okay, D?)

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Oh shit!
I forgot to mention: me and DaveM are Dj'in a pub next Friday (May 6), and we wanted to invite y'all.
It's at the Underdown, on the corner of Berkeley and Gerrard.
Come or we will die.

Should we make this the FAP, then?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

(flyer is go)

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 29 April 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

argh. Feeling all woozy today. I hope it's just a hangover, but really I think Sundar has given me his sickness. I will come to this as long as I'm not housebound. Of course trusting that the Underdown is less fascist than C'est What The Fuck.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 30 April 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Sorry about that, Kim.;) If it helps any, I was only bedridden for a couple days.

Look, I have something else on May 6 I'm probably attending but this will be going late, right? I might be able to make it later. How late are you spinning? (Where is Berkeley?) I didn't know that Dave M is a DJ.

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 30 April 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Gerrard 'n' Berkeley is right out near Gerrard 'n' Parliament, which is to say roughly kittycorner to the northwest edge of Regent Park, or near Cabbagetown, depending on how you wanna look at it.

Because things are so busy for me over the next week, I don't think I'll be making it out to this one, but I have my tickets for the Mountain Goats show on the 11th at Lee's...it'll be my way to unwind after a few hellish weeks of writing and researching.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 30 April 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Gerrard'n'Berkeley is totally in my 'hood, so I'll pop in for sure.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 1 May 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Dave M. is a DJ like some girls who make out with other girls.

(which is to say, I tried it in college and liked it, but haven't much since then. when the opportunity comes along, i still jump on it.)

the Underdown people seem cool - we went there to check it out and coincidentally got in a series of jokey fistfights with each other while still inside the bar. Chuck took a nasty crack on the jaw, and they didn't kick us out!

Sundar i saw an ad for your composition at arraymusic in the program at the Negativland show tonight (at Deep Wireless)!

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

Here's the flyer, but don't let that put you off.

ihttp://www.geocities.com/dmorris.geo/TRACK-MEAT.jpg

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 5 May 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

the burger is scary. i have the fear.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 5 May 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

I guess the price of telling the flyer cartoonist to draw whatever they want is a scary burger. Hope alls well, tho, Kim -- Hope you (and others) can make it!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 5 May 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

Sundar i saw an ad for your composition at arraymusic in the program at the Negativland show tonight (at Deep Wireless)!

Yeah, I'm participating in Arraymusic's Young Composers' Workshop. It's exciting (for me, anyway). They'll play the pieces at the Music Gallery on May 29 at 8. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students. I've got some passes to get adults the $7 rate though. I'll have to use some for family but I should probably be able to get some ILXors in if anyone's going.

Hope the gig goes well on Friday.

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 5 May 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

yeah feeling better - think i was mostly just hung over. definitely planning to stop by, maybe a little late-ish though because Zac has a referee meeting that night.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 5 May 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

Is anyone (other than MindInRewind) going to see Autechre next week? I'm hoping to pick up a ticket tomorrow.

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 5 May 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

two pumps and a bump.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 6 May 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

Well, me and DaveM shall be there from 830 or so, with real actual people expected to arrive around 10-11. Hope to see some of you there, pumps, bumps 'n all.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 6 May 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

I'll definitely pop in.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 6 May 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

any requests?!?!?!?!??

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 6 May 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

any requests?!?!?!?!??

Sure!

"Crossover", EPMD
"T.R.O.Y.", Pete Rock & CL Smooth
"Take It Personal", Gang Starr

Any of these would be a treat!

Also, lemme know if you need a guest MC.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 6 May 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

I will pop in for a couple of drinks around 10:30 - 11:00.

"whorish pop" = ?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 6 May 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

"whorish pop" = ?

Yeah, these made me curious too.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 6 May 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Er, THIS made me curious.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 6 May 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

It definitely sounds like music that I'd want to request!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 6 May 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Pump Up The Volume - M.A.R.R.S.
or nearly the same remix for
'Paid In Full' Eric B and Rakim

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 6 May 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

aw sorry guys, i won't be making this after all. have had a headache and fever since mid-afternoon and just want to get some sleep. hope you have fun.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 7 May 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

'twas fun!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 7 May 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

Yes it was, and hopefully they'll be able to turn this into a monthly gig or something. The music was very ILM-friendly, hitting all the staples ("One Thing", "Digital Love", some New Order, "Chewing Gum", "99 Problems") and a whole lot more. Also, the owner is cool and didn't mind us hanging out really late.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 7 May 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could have made it out.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 7 May 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

So, what next?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 8 May 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Thanks to those who came! The night was definitely a success, with a good turnout and good times had by all. And sorry I didn't see those requests until now, but they're definitely getting played at the next one. More Tantrum-knowing-all-the-words-to-hip-hop-tracks-and-sporadically-rapping-along is key.

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 9 May 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

Thanks! I've been known to bust a move or two on occasion. Seriously, though - MORE, PLEASE!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 9 May 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

Thanx for coming! And for also waking me up off the bench.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 9 May 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

wait, dave, are you dave m. from eye?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

aye eye

(nice Optimo piece in the Beat a few weeks back BTW!)

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 9 May 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

So whose going to go heckle John at Lee's tomorrow?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

cool! i love yr column dave, sorry for the confusion, the penny never dropped..

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

I'll be heckling Sean and Rob at the Opera House.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

As will I. Sorry John, I didn't think it was the same day as Autechre.

Sundar (sundar), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

I'll be heckling John.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

What's everyone up to next week?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm very busy with this unemployment/homeless thing I'm working at.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

you mean the long weekend? not sure yet - took some vacation days so may make use of them to get out of town. if not, then should be up for something.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 12 May 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm very busy with this unemployment/homeless thing I'm working at.

Been there. Both the "homeless" and the "unemployed" parts. Sucks. Chin up, man - you will get settled again.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 12 May 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

Hey Autechre-heads, did you get a chance to throw the devil horns with the band?
http://globalhermit.com/sean-john.jpg

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 12 May 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

sean, that is truly awesome.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 12 May 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

Indeed, that is awesome.

Autechre were also awesome.

Lotsa awesomeness went down in T.O. tonight.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 12 May 2005 05:13 (twenty years ago)

Autechre have really aged from the last time I saw them.

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 12 May 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't close enough to see how they're looking these days. Autechre must be ancient these days ... 34 and 32, I think? Geriatric, even.

We didn't see you there, Dave, where were you standing?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 12 May 2005 06:34 (twenty years ago)

The openning band's Talk Talk cover was disturbingly amazing.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 12 May 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

who opened again? and what toktok song?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 12 May 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Some Jeff Gannon guy and the Shearwater who ended with I think it was 'Eden'.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 12 May 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

(barry i was making a terrible joke about sean's photo. don't say anything and nobody will know it ever happened.)

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 12 May 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

haha

(I was partially confused because you wrote a preview for the Ae gig in eye, so I assumed that you were going to be there)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 12 May 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
HEY HOGTOWN! I'm making a return to my hometown on Friday June 3. I'm around until June 10 doing job interviews and such... Also seeing Spoon on Sunday. Not doing any NXNE stuff, though.

Anyone feel like some HOTT FAPPAGE ACTION?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

I promise I won't dash off early to eat casserole this time!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

This weekend's not so great for me but Monday or Wednesday next week should work.

Sundar (sundar), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was thinking sometime during the week. Maybe Wednesday?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Crap, I may have just made plans for Wednesday last night... Plan it for what suits most people. I may just have to miss it.

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Next week is a busy one for me.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

We're doing the old Track Meet thang again on the 10th, if anyone's innit, we'd love to see ya.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

I'm down for whatever. Drop me an email.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 3 June 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

howdy!

sweet merciful CRAP my week here is now just too busy to make it out. plus i am going to visit the folks in exciting tillsonburg for a couple days... sorry for the false alarm y'all, but there is a chance i may be moving back here very soon, thus allowing plenty of time for FAP ACTION...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

I won't have much time for anything over the next two weeks...shooting weeks, which means by the time we get done for the day my brain'll be switched off...ie, time to go home. Wanna do this soon, though.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

July, perhaps?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

in the meantime, here's our proviszh flyer.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna try to make it down for this.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Looks like a couple more of us are coming down tomorrow night.

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 10 June 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

quit having faps, it makes me sad

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

Orgies it is.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

How do you get there on the TTC?

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

Get off at Queens Park/College and grab the street car east. When the street car gets to Gerrard and Parliment (where it turns left onto Gerrard) walk one block west.

Alternatively take the 505 Dundas street car from Broadview to Berkley and walk one block north.

Anyone else got a better way?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Y'all should invite lonely toronto comma man.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

im not]]]]back until,,end of june [[[comming back onplane]],, we should have coffee,, or tea, or,,,beer then [[i comedy writer u be laughing[[[

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

So the College car is running for sure now? I remember it wasn't at one point.

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

I'll be fashionably late.

DJs, I have one word for you: RAKIM!!!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

I can not garentee regular service has returned. Your gonna have to check yourself at http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/ttc

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

It was the ELO that sold me.

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Jeff Lynne is so great when he totally turns on the soaring schmaltz factor. I was just ten minutes ago listening to "Waterfall". It's the best cheese ever!

Hope we can make it out to the next one guys. The idea of drinking lots of ice cold beverages is very appealing right now. This heat is murder.

Oh, and I still wanna hear Apache Indian.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 11 June 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Good times! I just about lost my mind when "25 Miles" (Edwin Starr) came on.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 11 June 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Alice Cooper's career arc was well-represented.

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 11 June 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

thanx for coming! i missed the elo -- what was played? or did i play it?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Sunday, 12 June 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
REVIVE! Howzabout the coming weekend? Or are we all partied out from this weekend?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

You betcha. You not get my email back the other day?

Kim (Kim), Monday, 4 July 2005 01:54 (twenty years ago)

you people realize that this cannot happen until i am back, do you want to make me sad?

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 4 July 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

I'm tied up Friday early evening, Saturday afternoon and all of Sunday.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

xpost: Thanks, Kim. I was waiting to hear back from Dave (WHO DOES NOT EMAIL ME, EVER, WEEPING LIKE A SMALL CHILD OVER HERE) before I wrote you back.

And I'm sorry, Anthony, we will drink a bevvie in your name.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

I didn't get an email! Bastards!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 4 July 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

I didn't gets the email either. :(

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 4 July 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

I just figured I'd revive the thread and let interested parties post!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

(Y'see, I'd only been in touch with Kim & Dave...)

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Howdy folks. I have sadly left London and the mighty ILX contingent there, and am now back in the motherland. So count me in for any FAP action! You people will have to fill me in on what's cool and stuff..

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 4 July 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Not Cool: The Drake, the cops busting that bike repair shop that was hosting rock shows and the bloody heat.
Cool: They closed down the coal plant in Mississauga, The Gladstone and jerk pork chops.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 4 July 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

You guys ever been to the House On Parliament, near Carlton? Lovely pub.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Jerk pork chops, you say? mmmmmm

My friends also go on about how bad the Drake is, which I don't quite get. Mind you I haven't lived here in a while. Right before I left for London (almost 3 years ago now), I had the chance to be involved in running nights/gigs/etc there (I sorta know the owner dude). At the time it was a disastrous construction site, and I thought that it would never take off, so I passed. Oops. I still want to see how it turned out. So what's so bad about it? Music? Clientele (too much 905)? Prices? All of the above?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 4 July 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

FYI I'm out in little Portugal near Dundas and Dovercourt, so it seems I have a lot of places to choose from in my hood, ranging from the uber-hipster to the tiled-floor places filled with old men watching football on crappy old TVs. I am happy in both.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 4 July 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I'm just north of you!

re: The Drake - music has devolved into bad trance/house most of the time and the people there have become completely intolerable (could be the 905 factor - not sure).

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 4 July 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

Basically, I've had no luck picking up girls there.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 4 July 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

Dave M. suggested Bier Market a while back, and I've actually never been. Thoughts?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

It's been great success, partly because the bookings seem to be sweet deals for the artists. Slutsky can confirm if he wants too. Who ever was doing it for "the underground" did a great job.

BUT:
1) To enter the bar with the chunes, you have to pass the bouncer, a woman with a clipboard, down some stairs and pass another person with a clipboard, a bouncer and finally you get the privillege to pay the person working the door. One can only assume this is so the wrong types don't disturb the thinning ponytail set in the two bars upstairs. If I wanted to deal with that type fo bullshit I could go to
2) I don't remember the prices being too unreasonable. They have Creemore which is good.
3) Did I mention having to pass four seperate layers of 'security' to get to where your going?
4) I've witnessed a few times where they declared "the bar is full" when it was closer to half full once Thermo or one of the bands got the bouncer/clipboard combination to let us in.

Oh and more bad news: The 360 was closed down. The Canadian or provincial vets took control of the building off the local legion as per their charter and locked the bar. And you really have to see the upstairs of the El Mo to admired how godawful the place is. I thought the downstairs was a crime against humanity but the upstairs takes it to another level.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

we had a really good experience at the drake. for artists they're great. we may be going back soon.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

The one time I went to the Drake I thought it was quite nice.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

Dave M. suggested Bier Market a while back, and I've actually never been. Thoughts?

Can't be worse then C'est What. :P
We did the Bier Market once before and only three of us showed up. The beer is expensive and the food even more so and the clientele gets nasty on the weekend, think B List to the Richmond Street crowd. BUT, it does have the single greatest patio in terms of the right amount of shade/sun for an extended work lunch.

Whats the place at Dundas and Bloor again? Joe Galaxys?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

No more 360? FUCK.

I was at some place on Ossington the other night - smallish, homey/bordello-esque in the front, small patio on the back. I liked it. Had a girls name in it, I think. I'm into places that were houses or something, and have something unique about them. And friendly staff are essential.

I see the point re: Drake. Shame it couldn't have been more laid-back, but I suppose it had to assume the facade of the mega-clubs to attract the high-rollers (or those who want to be perceived as high-rollers), in order to make back the MOUNTAIN of money he put into refurbishing the place...

That entry hassle/attidute is pretty much the one thing that will keep me away from a bar. Otherwise, I can go pretty much anywhere. Like, if you serve beer (decent beer would be a bonus), I can be happy there. All other things (good background music, decorations, cute girls, etc), are pluses, but not essential.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

Pass.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

Drake isn't so bad for grabbing a drink once in a while. As for the security, I've never had a problem with them, it's not like they strip search you or give you a hard time. However, when I saw DJ Spooky spin there a few weeks ago, the security were completely out to lunch and had no interest in getting people admitted in time (paradoxically enough). Sundar can vouch for this. However, once you're in, things are fairly laid back, as opposed to the Bier Markt, whose clientele makes the Drake seem like a bunch of your poker buddies. They have great beer though, if you don't mind forking out the $$$.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

i went there when i was in TO recently too!! can't remember the name, though!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 4 July 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

I would have said Mitzi's Sister, but that's not on Ossington!

BTW, the Bier Markt has good food and lotsa beer, but yeah, probably not really our style.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

No, not if Kim is going to cause problems again.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

I know I know, you can't take me anywhere.

Damn, I can't believe that we suck so much at finding good places to drink at.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

why don't you guys just go to c'est what?

haha (slutsky), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

The Rivioli patio? OR Bishop and the Belcher?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

(of course there's always Sneaku)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

let's just meet at mr. green jeans and be done with it ;)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

oh, that bar on ossington i was talking about is called "sweaty betty's".

i have to say that this is a pretty good list:
http://www.nowtoronto.com/issues/2005-03-10/cover_story.php
i have been to 54 of those establishments. does that make me some sort of drunk? i hope not.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

My apartment is totally flooded. I will probably have to move, esp given that there are thunderstorms forecasted for six of the next seven days. Since I'm only in town for another 1.5 months anyway, this might end up meaning I'll stay in Ottawa for that time. I really don't want to but I'm not sure what the options are right now. I have no idea what my availability will be like this weekend. Hope it's good times in any case.

If I do end up staying and being able to practise, I have a gig at the Renaissance Cafe on Danforth on the 20th. I'll be playing with Jaro Dabrowski, a mix of contemporary classical, jazz standards, and improv, all on nylon-string classical guitars. It's at 8 with a $5 cover.

Sundar (sundar), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry but the Green Room, Gretzkys, the Fez and Jack Astors do not belong in the best 100 hundred bars of this city.

And am I right in reading that there are apparently NO BARS north of Eglinton? Why have I come to accept such crap from Now these days?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm telling you guys, House On Parliament.

xpost: Sundar, that sucks! I had to leave my old place because of leakage issues. :(

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Please let me know, anyone, if you hear of any sublets available for the rest of the summer.

Sundar (sundar), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I might dude - only because I don't much like this place and might start working in stupid Burlington (only a slight chance of that tho).

And am I right in reading that there are apparently NO BARS north of Eglinton?
Yes, that sounds correct to me.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

Dude, Chalkers at Marlee and Roselawn[?] has a great 2nd floor patio. I'm sure I can think of a few between Eglinton and Lawrence that are better then the Fez.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

What about the Vic on Bloor and Markham? Or there's a decent place 'round Harbord and Dovercourt I've forgotten the name of. Good patios, decent beer lists, etc.

BTW, you can bypass the snarky guards at the front of the Drake by GOING IN VIA THE SIDE ENTRANCE. This may seem stupid but it works everytime. I love the underground basement (I did a sort-of-reading there once), but the ground and top floors and horribly smug.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Zac, keep in mind that we've never been in Chalkers at any point where it was populated by more than five or six people. The patio may be nice for a sunny afternoon beer, but I have a super bad feeling about the nightlife.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:08 (twenty years ago)

Can't be worse then The Fez.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm a big fan of the Victory. Mind you, I used to live pretty damn close on Markham St, hence it was always an easy choice.

The furthest north I've ever gone is the Rebel House on Yonge, although my crew stopped going when it got too busy. Their 'daily bread' was awesome.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

last time i went to the victory, was with sundar and my hot artist friend rachel--her tits inspire epics. i got drunk on cider and ate a meal and hit awkardly on the intellisexy anglo waiter.

anthony, Wednesday, 6 July 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

Did he just "walk on past"? Did he "break your heart"?

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

im confused by the reference, sexypants.

anthony, Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

(see previous FAP threads about dude from Blue Peter working at the Victory)

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

It's all Chinese Graffiti to him.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Hey well, since it's Tantrum suggesting this little shindig to begin with, then probably we should go with House On Parliament for this one. How many of us are good for this if it's this Saturday night?

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 7 July 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

I can make it ... I've never been to House on Parliament but I like trying out new places (new to me, anyhow).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 July 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm actually still in Tillsonburg, and won't be back in Hogtown until next Wednesday. So this is my selfish request for y'all to hang on until the following week... ;)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

I can do either this Saturday or next.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it doesn't really matter to me either.

A bit off-topic ... I just saw the front of today's Toronto Star, and the lead story was "NHL might lose Crosby". The hell? Was there absolutely no news of any kind yesterday?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Next weekend we're out of town.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Crizzap. What's a mutually agreeable upcoming weekend?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

My personal preference is Friday the 22nd. In theory we could still go tonight, but not sure I'm in the mood.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 9 July 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

sound good to me, i'm busy working at deh fringe. i'd recommend "torched", having seen anything else that spesh yet, but still a week to go

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Saturday, 9 July 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty much settled into the corner of my cousin's living room, with occasional Internet access so I should be good for a FAP. The 22nd should work for me.

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 9 July 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

22nd is good.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Sunday, 10 July 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

I'll be in Chicago that weekend. Go ahead - have fun without me!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 10 July 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, 22nd works here, too. (Sorry, Thermo.)

xpost: Sundar, that potential rental guy never got back to me, but let me know & I'll try reaching him again.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 10 July 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Good with me

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Sunday, 10 July 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Okay, kiddles, what is the news?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 17 July 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

next friday is still good with me. can you make it then Sean?
Rob, if you feel up to socializing, would love to see you there too.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 17 July 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Yup. I'm at work until 8:00 that Friday, but it only takes me ten minutes to bike to H.O.P.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 17 July 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Crap, this is still Fri the 22nd, right? I'm scheduled to work till 11. I could cancel but I'd have to think about it.

Sundar (sundar), Monday, 18 July 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Hey - almost missed this because of the ILX clock weirdness...

Yeah, I'm up for beverages on Friday. Will be good to see you folks!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 18 July 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

I'll be at a soccer game at 7 in Corso Italia and with this heat I'd better shower.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 18 July 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

What Zac is attempting to say is that he's still coming, but because of having to go home first, he'll be late-ish, which probably also means that I'll be late as well (if I wait for him).

Kim (having learned his language) (Kim), Monday, 18 July 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Ha haa haaaa - I love the translating!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 18 July 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

I have a gig at the Renaissance Cafe on Danforth (1938 Danforth at Woodbine) on the 20th. I'll be playing with Jaro Dabrowski, a mix of contemporary classical, jazz standards, and improv, all on nylon-string classical guitars. It's at 8 with a $5 cover.

Just a note that this is still on in case anyone can make it. I'll try to get there on Friday. I'll arrange to finish work at 8.

Sundar (sundar), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Anyone have an address/directions for House On Parliament? That's still where we're meeting, right?

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

Parliament inbetween Carlton and Gerrard.

Take the 506 east from College/Queens Park, it will pass the place supposedly. Apparently they resumed service at Queens Park as of yesterday.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

so are some of you folks still going tonight? what time are you heading over?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 July 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

UUUUUUUUUUUUUmmmmmmmmm, 9-10?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 22 July 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

gotcha. i'm "out east" this eve already, so i'll head over around then too...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 July 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there from roughly 8:30 on.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 22 July 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

I'll get there around 9 as well.

30 Bangin' Tunes That You've Already Got ... IN A DIFFERENT ORDER! (Barry Brune, Friday, 22 July 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Good times! I'm debating whether to pop some Tylenol just yet - that last Creemore was probably a bad idea. Anyway, is next - FAPaoke!!!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 23 July 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and just what the hell was I so animated about?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 23 July 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

did you have a pint for me

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 23 July 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Several.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 23 July 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

evil, evil creemore. good thing i only had three because this hangover is bad enough as is.

but yes, karaoke is urgent and key.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 July 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

What's everyone doing in a couple of weeks?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 23 July 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

cuddling with you maybe

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 23 July 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

funny you should say that Ant, as we established last night that Sundar is "the cuddly one".

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 24 July 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

sundar should give me a call

anthony easton (anthony), Sunday, 24 July 2005 06:36 (twenty years ago)

btw Sean, i checked and "Tour De France" definitely was on the "Breakin'" soundtrack (and I even remember which scene in the movie it was used for - the dude was sweeping up at a store, dancing with his broom), so yeah. I am not teh crazy.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 24 July 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Breakin was in 3d, like your face.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 25 July 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

Kim (Kim), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

Hotness runs in your family!

*hides from incumbent Zac beatdown*

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

But, back on track, the Gladstone does a rather rocking-ish Karoake night on Saturdays - anyone game?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

hmmmm, I'll be in TO on Saturday the 6th, and I do a really horrific version of "David Watts."

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Did any pictures from the FAP come out?

I've kinda really sucked at karaoke but I'll come and watch.

Sundar (sundar), Monday, 25 July 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm with Sundar on this one, but I'll be happy to come out for a few drinks and to make fun of you guys.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 25 July 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, i can't sing either. i know this when i'm sober.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

Drunken silliness is the whole point, no?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

I had friends that used to go to karaoke there a lot. I stopped going with them because their attempts at getting me to sing were becoming dangerously aggressive!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

They forced you to sing at gunpoint?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Shotgun Karaoke!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

hahaha barry i'm friends with the one on the left!! i know you're lying!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Stage left.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 03:44 (twenty years ago)

What if I stack the deck by bringing some non-ILX people who will sing the karaoke?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 28 July 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and Rob, drop me a line about this Pop Conspiracy of yours.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 28 July 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

What if I stack the deck by bringing some non-ILX people who will sing the karaoke? drop the karaoke idea, as more people don't want to sing than do, and we do a Welcome-to-T.O. FAP for Mr. Alex SF in a bit?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

What's that?... Squirrely's? Great idea Tantrum!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

I am, if nothing else, a diplomat.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 28 July 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

I'll be visiting this Wed thru Sat, and I think Alex will attest I'm not nearly as insufferable in the flesh.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 1 August 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

Where is this Squirrely's you speak of.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 1 August 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Queen West. Near Trinity Bellwoods.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Just east towards the coffee time? Or the otherside?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

East. On the south side. It has traffic lights in the window.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Is this a go or what?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Saturday is looking like the best day for this, going by Alex and Morbius' schedules.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

WE ARE COMING TO CANADA. . .

We should probably pick a thread for the two.

We need a time and someone to give better directions for those not familar with the western reaches of Queen Street.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Are you saying my vague Torontocentric directions aren't good enough?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm good for Saturday.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

Your directions are great! I won't be able to find it, but I like the vague "it's over thataway" nature of them.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Haha that bar is like two blocks from our B&B.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

i love how the address tab casts a shadow on the map. i mean, how could we miss a mile high tab in the sky? although it really needs to say "hot fap action thisaway" for us to be absolutely sure.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

is that off manning?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

it is! i live on manning. i can't not go!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

So is this a Karaoke bar?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

This is within stumbling distance of the beer festival.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

This bar is Karaoke free. It does have a resident psychic tho.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v622/dysign/ilx/thisaway.jpg
Just for you, Kim!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

If the beer festival is at Historic Fort York then that's quite the stumble (particularly after a day of drinking in the hot sun).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Bah, it's a stuble down Niagara street. Just make sure you stumble while it's still light out.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Looks like I'll be hitting the beer festival on sunday - so i don't need to worry about being a complete mess before I even get to Squirrly's!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

did i say that i love the map? i love the map.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 6 August 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

I love it too Kim. Lets make shirts.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 6 August 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

So 8pm @ Squirrly's? Is this set?

Alex in Canada, Saturday, 6 August 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

A good time was had by all, especially Mark P, who jumped into my lap, later jumped into Barry's lap, and was stroked on the head lovingly by thermo. The whole thing ended when Mark P passed out in his seat and sat there snoring. We snuck out to avoid waking him up.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 7 August 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

We had a great time (I'm sorry that we missed Mark--although if we had stayed much longer both of us would probably have passed out anyway!) It was nice to meet everyone. We wandered back to the B&B very trashed (and made lots of jokes about being the perfect targets for muggings--strangely these jokes did not seem to attract any muggers. . . perhaps they thought they were being set up.) Anyway we are off to the Jays/Yankees game! Go JAYS!

Alex in Canada, Sunday, 7 August 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

You would have liked Mark, Alex...he was a real pussycat last night.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 7 August 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Jeezuz, I got my lap action after the FAP!

Thanks, hoseheads! I owe Sundar a TTC token, and his cousi

And Jen laughed at most of my 'A' material, so she rocks.

damn - i've been away from the webernet for a while so i didn't know about any of this business. i like squirrely's! instead, i was at the gladstone - not for the karaoke, but for some crazy 'fake prom' thing. bizarre.

tantrum - the conspiracy team is still deep in the secure mountain HQ working on the master plan, so no news yet. (i.e. we are lazy and have done nothing!), but we're starting to look at venues, etc...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 7 August 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

OK, so Mark P is NOT a cat.

So Alex and I both got to see Yankee victories, bah.

My last Sat nite stop was Church St for base and mundane activities (which were nevertheless more fun than sleep). The bars there run a video for a HALF-HOUR before closing that counts down the minutes, which makes every night a Bummer New Years Eve...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

Ha! I was at the fake prom too, Rob. (Friend was the band's drummer.)

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 8 August 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

:(

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

The FAPpers confirmed my suspicion I'd feel too damn old at the Fake Prom. Was it sexxy?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

i had to go home for the weekend! sorry alex and surprise guest dr. morbius -- i really wanted to meet both of you!

morbius, did i see you on the rogers centre jumbotron with all the SABR people on friday? also, did you go to salad king?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Mark, I couldn't find Salad King! I was at the right address -- next to that Sam record shop, yes? -- but couldn't see it. I had mango chicken on Queen West.

Yes, we were on the Jumbotron; I doffed my cap and bowed (and pointed out Bill James to MIR).

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

oh, you were so close to thai radness. too bad.

re: the jumbotron, my observation was that all the sabr people were white males. are you a white male?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Jeezuz, I got my lap action after the FAP!

WTF?

Sundar (sundar), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

We were on the Jumbotron? Our section was on the Jumbotron, but I don't remember the camera panning past us personally!

Bill James was about six rows in front of us. I guess he wears contacts now -- I wouldn't have recognized him without his glasses.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

bill james was there!

strangely enough, i have no clue what he looks like. i'm going to assume he has a beard?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Sundar, see my Church St bar-hop ref above (I am an indefatigable night owl even after midnight concerts).

Yes, I am a white SABR male. There are a fair number of women -- a lot of wives, but some serious scholars too -- but I think I saw even fewer nonwhite members at this gathering than usual. (Tho a recent president of SABR was a black female Astros fan from New Jersey.)

I didn't get to do nearly all I wanted, I've still never been to the Horseshoe, the Danforth or the Beaches. Hope I'll come for the Filmfest next year or '07.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

This looks like a recent pic of him:

http://www.seattleweekly.com/graphics/features/0413/040331_BillJamesWEB.jpg

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Yes, and that may be his only public appearance in a tie.

No, I didn't see us on the 'tron either, but I wasn't really looking.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

(And, yes, good times. It was good to get to see everyone before I leave town. I sort of have a general feeling I was being a bit of an arse but people seem to humour me anyway. I want you all to know that I do in fact have the utmost tolerance and respect for baseball and its claims to being a legitimate sport.)

multiple xposts

Sundar (sundar), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

he looks more dapper than i imagined! i was right about the beard!

(xposts)

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

After my img search failed to turn up any pics with spectacles, I'm starting to think that I was hallucinating that part. He's greyer than I'm used to seeing him so maybe that was what seemed so different about him.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Haha, Sundar is the furthest thing from an ass (and likes "Duck Soup").

And you are all unusually handsome fellas and ladies, but I'd hafta be much drunker to follow that cat into your laps.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Morbs, you didn't make it to the Horseshoe on Friday night? I forgot to ask you about that at the FAP.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 August 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

No, I asked at the door -- the one guy I wanted to see, n
Nathanael Mayer, cancelled.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

what's SABR?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 8 August 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

The Society for American Baseball Research. It's full of ppl like me, s1ocki, you'd fuckin hate it.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

but it sounds fun!! is it an historical society?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 8 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Not really:

http://www.sabr.org/

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

Sundar, you're never an arse at the FAPs. Don't worry about that.

Mark: we dubbed the cat Mark P because we remembered you said that you "had to" attend this one because it was so close, and then when the cat started hovering around the table I guess we figured some magician had turned you into a cat.

Dr. M: You're not missing much by not going to the Beaches. Trust me on this one.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 8 August 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

You are trusted, and I burn easily.

Did anyone Beer Festival on Sunday?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

is that off manning?

-- mark p (mark.p****...) (webmail), August 3rd, 2005 1:54 PM. (Mark P) (later) (link)

it is! i live on manning. i can't not go!

-- mark p (mark.p****...) (webmail), August 3rd, 2005 1:55 PM. (Mark P) (later) (link)

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

i would like to see pictures of this FAP, if anyone has them.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Sundar isn't an arse at the FAPs (well, the 2 TO FAPs I've been to anyway), but he can be a little menacing! You haven't lived until Sundar has sung a Styx song to you in the bathroom.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

he sung me supertramp once, in my kitchen, the morning after. is that anything?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

That's nearly as good.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

i should note he somehow managed to do all three separate harmonies by himself.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

And he probably tricked you into thinking you were hearing the piano part, too.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

it was more soft keys than piano, but yes.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Man, he told me you guys were amused by his Classic Rock passions, but I didn't figure on Supertramp.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

I was at the beer fest. It was everything a beer lover such as myself could have asked for (ie - there was lots o' beer).

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 8 August 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Kensington Organic Ice Cream, on Kensington Ave

Simply delicious!

Robinson (Robinson), Monday, 8 August 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

Why thankyou! We caved to pressure and started a non-dairy banana soy ice cream (which seems like an oxymoron to me), but it's actually very good. I don't make it, I just serve.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 8 August 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

You (de)serve RESPECT!

Robinson

Robinson (Robinson), Monday, 8 August 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

i wimped out on the beer festival in favour of a greasy golden griddle breakfast and a long walk in the park - but then the bad karma gave me nasty sandal blisters on my feets and i really did want a beer at that point. i suck.

Sundar, will miss you :(

Kim (Kim), Monday, 8 August 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

Well, you all seem very nice. Post FAP pics so I can see you guys on the street and probably not say anything!!

scout (scout), Monday, 8 August 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

i think Sean really only did take pictures of our little furry friend this time out. i guess you'll just be forced to come meet us in person sometime!

Kim (Kim), Monday, 8 August 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

Or I could continue to talk to cats on the street, a good compromise:)

scout (scout), Monday, 8 August 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

I approve of that plan. But only if the cats talk back.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 8 August 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Actually I also took a photo of Captain Sweatband's Don't Hate Kate shirt, but that's pretty much it. Everyone was mocking me for my picture-taking habit, so I didn't bother this time around.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

Captain Sweatband??? Whatcha talking about Stinkypants?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

Ha haa haa!

Dick (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

Hey Dick!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Did we miss something?

Bag Of Dicks 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

us, mock?!!! nevah!

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

i like teh photos. sorry i missed this - sundar, you will indeed be missed.

yuengling participle (rotten03), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Oh shit!
I forgot to mention: me and DaveM are Dj'in a pub next Friday (May 6), and we wanted to invite y'all.
It's at the Underdown, on the corner of Berkeley and Gerrard.
Come or we will die.

Oh shit! I did it again.
I forgot to mention: me and DaveM are Dj'in The Underdown again tommorow (Fri Aug 18, where Piblett's used to be in Cabbagetown, Berkeley and Gerrard.)
Sorry for short notice, but Come! Or we will die. Again.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 August 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

That'll be, uh, Friday August 19th.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 August 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and around 10-ish.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 August 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

I've got a little studio gig tonight, but I'm hoping I can make it down later.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 19 August 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Cool! Bring friends!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 August 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

whoah I'm in Toronto this weekend. Maybe I'll get to this thing.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Friday, 19 August 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah! ILXers get free pint on me.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 August 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

I will try to drop in, but I'll probably be late again. It kinda depends if I'm as tired in a few hours as I am right now.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 19 August 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

I bumped my session to Sunday, so I'll be coming earlier rather than later.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 19 August 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Fun, as always, and I'm sorry I got sidetracked.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 20 August 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

wish i'd been able to make this. :( there will be more?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 20 August 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for coming! And apologies if I did anythign strange while being flaming piss-drunk.

Kim, we'll probably do another sort-of-one for my leaving Canada party, which I think will be on Sep 23rd.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Saturday, 20 August 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

oh dear, my sister is going to be in town that weekend. perhaps i'll bring her along. are you leaving permanently?

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 21 August 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Not a FAP, per se, but Sloan and controller.controller are playing a FREE CONCERT on U of T campus this Friday, Sept 9, from 3:30 - 6:00 PM on U of T's back campus. Feel free to swing by -- this is some sort of orientation event so be prepared to possibly feel old.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Nice - I might do that!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

except for the feeling old part

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

hey, does it make you feel old when all your friends start getting married? because if so, well... uh... hey guys, let's FAP soon, ok?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 10 September 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

OK!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 September 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

Yes, please!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 10 September 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

i wont be able to go, but go in my stead--

Our Art in the Halls opening/closing party will be Thurs Sept 29th 6 - 10pm, with live entertainment and a cash bar. Look for more details and promo materials to follow via email on ArtsWeek at 401.

MY ART FOR SALE...

anthony, Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

The Sloan show was good (I'd never seen them) ... people were singing along to some of the songs -- and some of those people were actually frosh!!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Nice!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

damn, we would have been there for sure but we were too busy being all fancy, driving around buying wine in Niagara.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 10 September 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

i'm in canada for the first time in my life, but unfortunately i'm in montreal rather than toronto :-(

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

UNFORTUNATELY?!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

well there's some discussion of toronto fappage here, isn't there?

montreal seems pretty cool so far, anyway (although i've only had an hour wandering around, and i'm very very very tired).

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 11 September 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

be there monday evening. leave on oct. 9th.
SNUGGLEBEARCUDDLEATTACK

anthony, Sunday, 11 September 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

fuck i forgot about this show.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 11 September 2005 06:58 (twenty years ago)

so Chuck, is there still a thing this friday?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 17 September 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Hey, what's new, anything going on this weekend? I'm around till Monday.

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 17 September 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Toronto looks almost eerily antiseptic after a month in Buffalo.

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 17 September 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Hi, Sundar!

Well? Anyone? I'd be up for a pint somewhere. We could even give C*** W***'s another shot. With a gun.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 17 September 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Hey Sundar! Didn't know you were here. Hell yeah I can meet up for a pint.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 17 September 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

I might be able to aswell.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 17 September 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

I just got back online now. Maybe we could meet somewhere tomorrow night? Anywhere near the University/Spadina subway line is easy for me. Anyone going to Wolf Eyes tonight?

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 17 September 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

where and when on sunday sundar?

anthony, Sunday, 18 September 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

Is around 9 tonight good for everyone? We could do Squirly's (sp?) again perhaps...

Sundar (sundar), Sunday, 18 September 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

where is squirelys?

anthony, Sunday, 18 September 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

I'll be late, I might just catch you depending on how long you stay.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 18 September 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Um... that isn't a serious question is it anthony?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

It's a small gathering. We can plan around your schedule (so long as everyone reads this in time). When will you make it?

xpost There's a map for Squirrely's upthread.

Can you make it, Thermo?

Sundar (sundar), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Sure. Prolly by 10.
I don't think that was a serious question about directions tho. No, there's no way.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

Why don't we just arrange the FAP for 10 then?

Sundar (sundar), Sunday, 18 September 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Ya. let's go crazy!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 18 September 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

i am not kidding

anthony, Sunday, 18 September 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

oh wow hey, see you later then!

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 18 September 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

also since i was apparently being too subtle/obtuse upthread there, be prepared for the BIG NEWS. nudge nudge wink wink etc.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 18 September 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

whoa!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 18 September 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

Aw, crap.

How was it?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 19 September 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

don't worry, it was pretty low key. some of us did have to work this morning after all. =) i do wonder what happened to anthony though. he never showed.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 00:46 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I'm having my leaving do at the Underdown (see many refs, above) this Friday....

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

... big news?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Kim & Zac bought a parakeet and are teaching it how to talk. Frankly, the news was a bit underwhelming.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Chuck, are you guys spinning again?

xpost: Kim & Zac are actually robots sent here from the future to study our ways.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

will that parakeet's first words be "when's the wedding"?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations! I love parakeets.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

this is crazy talk, i would never marry a parakeet. unless it was a robot parakeet parakeet from the future.. with a nice ass.

See? SEE??!!!!!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

anthony, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

what's the earliest you all will be there on Friday? i have to go to Union at 10:30 to get ma sistere, but we can stop by Underdown first if anyone will be there?

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 22 September 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

alright, anthony!

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 22 September 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

umm, hello! what's the big news already!

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 22 September 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

hi mark! you already guessed it! (things worked out!)

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 22 September 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

this is obviously getting ahead of myself since there's no date set or anything, but would it be too gauche to add a "hot wedding action thisaway" tab to the map in the official invites? ok maybe just some of the invites? or, just like, a couple? yeah?

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 22 September 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

your broke ass is lucky you're friends with such a skilled designer, kim!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 22 September 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

Kim, we'll be around from 9-ish, but the bar stays open pretty late (like, 4.)

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

As always, a grand old time was had by all. Dave, y'all need to make that a biweekly or somesuch.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 25 September 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

Apologies to anyone I didn't say goodbye to after I stumbled off when the owner woke me up around 5:30. I vaguely remember giving Paul a hug on the way out, so at least I remembered to do that much.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 25 September 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, Barry, you lush!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 25 September 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

who is coming on the 29th?

anthony, Monday, 26 September 2005 04:45 (twenty years ago)

what's happening on the 29th?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 26 September 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

the reception for the show i am part of, followed by dinner

anthony, Monday, 26 September 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

anthony, Friday, 30 September 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

Okay so:

Will be in town June 17th to 19th. FAP on Friday the 18th?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:20 (fifteen years ago)

sounds like a plan.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 20 May 2010 06:53 (fifteen years ago)

Haven't been on here in AGES and stopped by today for no reason.. Lo and behold, Ned's comin' to town!
I'm out of town that weekend and might be leaving on the 18th, but if I'm around, count me in.

Rob Bolton, Thursday, 20 May 2010 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
