Got one today from Dunkin Donuts - CLASSIC!!!

jw (allocryptic), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

They're called poppyseeds.

Huk-L, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

i say dud. a sign of an inferior muffin.

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

what are you talking about? they're the sign of nothing other than sugar crystals having been put on the muffin prior to baking. I say classic because they taste good and have a nice texture.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, dud.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

MUFFIN ROCKISM

JW (allocryptic), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

MUFFIST!

Huk-L, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

My muffin has tusks

donut e-goon (donut), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

i like a firm muffin not a crunchy muffin

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

No, strongo is right. Muffins with sugar crystals on top are statistically more likely to be totally shitty than muffins sans crystals. The crystals don't make them shitty, but they are a definite indication that shittiness is present.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

I don't want shit in my muffins!

I say dud.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Who has ever eaten, out of pure gluttony, not by mistake, the muffin wrapper?

Huk-L, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO HIDE DUNKIN DONUTS?

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

man, i want a muffin

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could find a good muffin around here that's not too sweet/cupcakeish.

Fuck a fake muffin.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Who the fuck buys muffins at Dunkin' Donuts? You are pissing me off with your wrongheadedness.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Only trailer park trash eat shit muffins.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

i want statistics, n/a

urban in nature (deangulberry), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Back in the early 90s, I used to eat a lot of muffins. There was a disturbing trend that saw bakeries constantly upping the ante by making their muffins bigger and bigger, and it just got fucking stupid, and I haven't had a muffin since.

Huk-L, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

you know what dunkin donuts has that is surprisingly good? those raspberry/white chocolate scones. hubba hubba.

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I have a weakness for Perkin's muffins.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Dunkin Donuts makes ok muffins and great coffee (for a national chain)

JW (allocryptic), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Pumpkin/Carrot muffins are the best thing ever if they are not too sweet.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

ohhhhhhhh i get raspberry/white chocolate scones at second cup all the time.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

i never eat muffins anymore :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

i had two wilensky's pressed bologna sandwiches today though! and a cherry coke!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Ooh! I love Dunken Donuts coffee - and Krispy Kreme coffee too.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I hate those fucking crystals.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

two wilensky's pressed bologna sandwiches

explain

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

If I get a muffin from Dunkin Donuts these days -- as I have often done when I'm out of cereal at home (and seeing as how there's a DD right next to my el stop) -- I'll usu. get the honey brain raisin muffin.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

OMG I just remembered CORN MUFFINS.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Dud, as they detract from enjoyment of the chocolate chips.

I am bumming because the local grocery chain just 'outsourced' their in-store bakery and the muffins have taken a drastic turn for the worse. There's always the option of Panera muffins, but they're $2 each or something ridiculous like that.

Jeff Wright (JeffW1858), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

jordan i kiss you

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

This was found by searching for "perfect muffin", and I have to say that it looks pretty good:

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

There's a Dunkin Donuts across the street. I'm really close to going right now.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

We make some really great apple pecan muffins at my work. They're all oaty and just slightly sweet, and absolutely delicious. The only muffins I'll eat. But we only have them once a week, and the rest of the week we have to make sweet muffins, like chocolate muffins, because that's what the customers demand. I don't get people at all.
We don't make any muffins with sugar crystals on them, though. I think that if we made sugar crystal muffins once, customers would demand them every day.
A customer recently asked me if I would put icing on her oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. The world is not okay.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Where do you work, Kirsten?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

MUFFINS = CUPCAKES, DUH

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

I work at the Gr3at Harv3st in Whitefish Bay.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

what is the point of the BRAN muffin?

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

My mom used to make the best bran muffins with chocolate chips and raisins in them. Yum.

kirsten, you live in milwaukee, right?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Bran muffins are great!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

I decided to get a Clif bar, instead, btw.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

wtf is a clif bar?? and a pressed bologna sandwich????

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I live in Milwaukee. People in Milwaukee love sweet muffins, I guess.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

pretty much all muffins are good, even banana flavored (and i hate banana flavored food, including, surprisingly, bananas).

but crumbles definitely wins over crystals.

when i was a kid, i'd secretly chew the paper muffin/cupcake cup to squeeze out any remaining traces of muffin flavoring. the resulting papery mush is actually quite similar to what you get when you chew a slim jim.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Mandee, I consider you my sweet muffin, by the way.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

strongo is right, can we please go back to the pressed bologna sandwiches?

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

a muffin would probably have been better, you're right. actually, if i had known that i didn't have an apple in the fridge like i thought i did, i probably would've gone for the muffin.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

fuck. i want a muffin.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

two wilensky's pressed bologna sandwiches

explain

oh duuude. a montreal classic since 1932!!

http://www.la-grange.net/2003/07/23-wilensky-montreal.jpg

wilesnky's is this great classic diner-y place, featured in both the book & movie the apprenticeship of duddy kravitz.

their "special," which is about the only thing you can get there (besides homemade sodas--cherry coke YES) are pressed sandwiches on round yellow buns made with salami, bologna, and mustard. (it costs extra to get them without mustard).

they are AWESOME!! and cheap!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

they use these ancient machines to first press the meat, then the sandwiches!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

you mean pressed as in hot, i assume?

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

yeah! almost panini-style, but not quite. no grill marks; it's a flat press.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

dean + i had the same clif bar today!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

So they're not actually...flattened?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

whoa mama

xpost

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 10 June 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

they ARE flattened!

wilensky's is one of those weird places that's open for like 2 hours a day, four days a week.

plus they always have like eight people standing motionless behind the counter and like 2 customers

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

like a cuban pressed samich?

JW (allocryptic), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

my gf just got back from new orleans and brought news of said french fry sandwhich. im so intrigued.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

not sure. she was in and around the french quarter though.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Poutine=french fries, gravey and cheese curd. No bread is harmed.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

Woah.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

Wait wait wait. The last time I ordered Dunkin Donuts coffee, they asked me if I wanted any sweetener in it. And I said no, since I prefer mine black. And I drank it and it was insanely ridiculously sweet anyway, completely undrinkable, and I can't imagine what would have happened if they had actually sweetened it.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

You can buy some Dunkin' Donuts coffee beans online, if you'd like.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

D&D coffee sucks, i dont know what you're talking about. I heard they put additives in it to raise the boiling point and so keep it hotter for longer. well, whether they do or they dont, it tastes it.

that said, they're new blueberry iced coffee is god's gift to mankind.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Haha, they sell "coffee accessories" like filters and coffee makers too. I love the idea that to someone out there, Dunkin' Donuts is the fount of all things coffee.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 June 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

CLIF BROS

(xp to jon - yeah, the chocolate chip is the only edible one)

urban in nature (deangulberry), Friday, 10 June 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

actually, it tasted remarkably similar to every other clif bar i've had.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

i just finished my case of chocolate chip clif bars, which were ok but a little carob-y. my favorites are the oatmeal raisin and the carrot cake. and anything with icing is wack.

mmm last month i made these orange yogurt muffins that were outta sight. they didn't taste like much at first, but a few bites in and it was orange zest city!

metal assembly (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 11 June 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)
