estela (estela), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

estela (estela), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:46 (twenty years ago)

i can't think of a single dave matthews band song. have they ever been popular here?

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:47 (twenty years ago)

no, BUT i see JB appear to be giving them a push with in-store displays and such.

haitch (haitch), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

I think I need a haircut. should I follow the example of mongrels like trayce and edward o and go RED?

haitch (haitch), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

James is no longer the devilchild. Who will be next?

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

I saw an ad for a Dave Matthews album on the teev the other day and it occurred to me I've never heard or even had any idea wtf they sound like.

They sounded like a wet, diluted crappy MOR version of Pearl Jam crossed with Hootie and the bleedy Blowfish, BLEAGH.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

I have cousins from Albury-Wodonga who are big fans. That says just about all that needs to be said.

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 05:11 (twenty years ago)

i expected something more along the lines of phish

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

I had curry, but alas this cold has left me unable to taste anything except that the consistency was creamy and it was a little firey. So I could've been eating pureed chum with chilli flakes on it really.

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

kate, can I get a HELL YEAH??

haitch (haitch), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

hi mully, who are the deadshits?

estela (estela), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

not you estela.

people who lie to you. people who tell you one thing and then on "advice" change their mind. when you have already made a commitment based on their initial mindset. fucks. pricks. know nothing do nothing pretender waste. managers mainly.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Anyone who purports to manage anything is a fuckhead.

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

I was a bit tempted to tell those people on that Label producers thread you linked to that they should come over to the mongrels thread because the world-famous Mully Meldrum posts here.

So you see actually I am a deadshit:)

estela (estela), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

so any of you duders going to the salivation army gig at pony then?

haitch (haitch), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

estela (estela), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Hi Estela, I was running late to say god morning!

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

good morning dammit.

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

Yes, you were late. I'd had my breakfast and drank my coffee and then was sitting here muttering, 'Where is that dratted girl?'

estela (estela), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

mully, Janne is on to that thread.

mole, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm at that stage where a bloke stops ignoring an injury and is frantic for a doctor's appointment. It feels like someone slashed the muscle at the back of where my leg meets the foot.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

achilles tendon my friend...perhaps

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

I can't really suggest anything that I think would pique anyone's interest.

In the springtime of the year / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 28 July 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

They sounded like a wet, diluted crappy MOR version of Pearl Jam crossed with Hootie and the bleedy Blowfish, BLEAGH.

Very true, as is the Phish comment. Just blend them all together. Matthews is a peniswrinkle.

I'm gonna try, I just came back from the doc - fucked with my achilles tendon.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 July 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Uni sucks. I hate being back here.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 28 July 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

I would pull out my tongue to go back to uni right now. The government would have to give me money, though.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 July 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking of going back and working my way towards becoming a tutor/academic in english history AND education stuff.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 July 2005 03:44 (twenty years ago)

I just had yet more blud taken out me arm and i have to have an ultrasound tomorrow, they think i might have gallstones. Yay ;{

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

Mikey - apply to do a masters by research, work really hard, see if you can get some publications out there and you can use that as leverage for a PhD admission perhaps even scholarship. I can ask da boss for some tips if you like.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 28 July 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

Ooookay Edward, I was a slacker wastrel at uni and my marks weren't spectacular - can I still do this?

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 July 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

Yes, if you put in a damn good pitch. My marks at uni weren't great easier. Mid-credit average, nothing special. It helps that I had a good personal relationship with my now-supervisor, though, who you know not what you know. Maybe do some networking while you're still working?

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 28 July 2005 05:32 (twenty years ago)

Mid-credit average,

aren't they supporting the go! team?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 28 July 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Well, they're nothing special if they are...

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 28 July 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's an idea.

I might e-mail Unimelb Arts.

I want a desk and an office to hang posters and to spend hours comparing the York and Lancaster families to the Bloods and the Crips!

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 July 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

Man, some of my happiest memories were uni History tutes.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 28 July 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

I guess I'm just a bit weirded out that I've developed a rep as the biggest suck/teachers pet in the class (so people think I'm a jerk) however my marks don't at all reflect this. So I get screwed both ways. Crap marks and peer dislike. Yay!

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 28 July 2005 06:48 (twenty years ago)

Like I'm even going to try to keep up. Hi mongfucks.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 06:59 (twenty years ago)

Hi Adam.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 28 July 2005 07:02 (twenty years ago)

Hey Adam =) Have you started yon new jobbie yet?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 07:22 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Tuesday, is good, I be working hard very

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

Hi Adam. Hi everyone.

moley, Thursday, 28 July 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

Hi Moley.

I think I've spent so much time on this article that I've fucked it up.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 07:47 (twenty years ago)

back to an earlier draft?

moley, Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

Nah. Think I'll just submit it.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Spent a lot of times at various doctor's today, but I feel bloody great, which is always a step in the right direction. My foot fucking kills, but.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

Hows this work: I slept in way too much today, I didnt get up til like 10.30, and I'm more tired than y'day when I went to bed well after 1am and got up at 8 or 9.

I'm so tired, and its only 7.30 and I already wanna go home.

Entertain me ya fuxors.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Trayce, you overslept.

You get into a cycle, then when you break it, your body is like WTF.

You woke up, probably in the middle of an REM cycle and somehow, that fucks with your system.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, there was some study about that recently.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

Last year I was actually going a little crazy because I was never achieving REM due to SEVERE sleep apnoea. That was a baaaad time. I'd go visit Dad - he was in hospital getting his prostate removed - and I'd seriously contemplate doing something to get myself in there and dozed up enough to actually sleep.

Like I said, it was a SUCKY time.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

I keep waking up mid-REMs all the damn time on night shift. Like, I'll wake up when I should at 8 or so, then fall back asleep then jerk out of a dream an hour or so later... ever get the fading away of all this noise in yr head when you suddenly wake out of REM? Its that sleep-paralysis buzzing. I hate it. I had a night terror again the other night (not an awake paralysis one but a bad dream that woke me and left me all heebied). I dont feel at all frazzled like I did the other week though, I'm better now. My blood tests all came back ok - she said I have to cut back on the booze but not stop all together, just bloody take it easy, and to start necking vit B/folate pills and milkthistle, which Im doing.

Looks like Ima have to have my gall bladder removed tho, possibly. Whee. Actually I kind of like surgery, anisthetic is interesting.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

Shit, Trayce. At least you're doing something. Like I said, STAY AWAY FROM THE BOOZE. Shiiit.

Fuck I hate the transition between being asleep and awake.

I'm focusing on getting really, really fit so I don't have to worry about sleep apnoea or getting so stressed I experience insomnia ever again.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

Does fitness help? Nick's skinny as a rake handle thats been whittled, and he has bad apnoea.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

Mind you he smokes and he isnt fit, so there you are =)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, there you go Trayce, he smokes.

Also, yeah, being fit muscling up in the chestal area will prevent the chest and throat constricting your throat and leading to the snoring and the choking and all.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

I suspect Nick often spend his nights squeezing through holes and exploring the vast undercity, he has that look about him.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

Ugh you poor bastards. Yeah, stop smoking, that causes all sorts of nasty things, not just the death ones.

My piece just got accepted! I don't fucking believe it.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

Well, he said it's excellent, which I assume means he likes it.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

Curse you! That's freaking great!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

I hope you get well paid. I'm disgustipated at how little I got paid for all my Heinemann work.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

Agh, crap, I should probably delete that name.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

It's not a paying job, it's for a nonprofit magazine. I'm doing it (a) because I fecking enjoy it and (b) so I can build a portfolio in case I get more serious about it in the coming years.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

Oh, cool, sweet! What mag should I be looking out for to see your article?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

Ju/\/\pbutt0n. I'll tell you when it's in the shops :) [if my thing makes it into the mag that is]

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

Fantastic.

HEY! Revenge of CRAZY LADY!

I woke at 6.00 this morning and was lying in bed, thinking about how nice and warm I was next to the missus when I start getting screaming about Revelations and demonic growling coming through the window. I leapt for the window as quickly as possible BUT I MISSED HER AGAIN!

How is this possible?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, I am camping out the front of my block of flats with a bible, a machete, a vile of holy water and a reel of razorwire tonight. Enough of this 'Care In The Community' crap. Lady Macbeth over here is GOING DOWN.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

How is the demon lady invisible? Gee, can't think :)

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Whatever, the infernal bitch starts EARLY and I'm not fucking having it.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to work out which house on our street was apparently a very notorious gambling school and gangster den during the days of the Richmond Push just before WW1.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

It's the invisible demon lady that lurks deep within us all.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

Maybe its a ghost!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:53 (twenty years ago)

Did you watch Trading Spouses or something this morning Trayce?

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

Dude, that would rock so hard I'd probably wet my pants. Good god, a real haunting!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

So how's work Trayce?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

Eeek! We dropped off the front page again.

Good morning mongrels. Is it Friday already?

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 28 July 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

Damn! I will get here first some day, mark my words.

moley, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

hope you are all ok. great news about job and article adam!

multigrabber, Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

HI everyone, this thread is a rollercoaster of emotions!

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

i had a nosebledd this morning but that's not unusual. normally happens when i have no alcohol the night before

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 28 July 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

Mornin all! I'm supposed to be fasting today for this bleddy ultrasound, I suppose coffee doesnt count as food does it? Still, I'll be fecking starving by 3pm. I kind of hope I do have gallstones, cos it'd explain all the pain and annoyance with bilious attacks and tireness and etc Ive had for forever, so I'll just get the sucka cut out.

I had a nice dream about Remy last night, weird.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

at least it's not kidney stones. i've heard those are not fun to pass

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 28 July 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

Aye. Gallstones they dont even bother trying to get you to pass or get rid of, they just get rid of the gall bladder, apaz we dont even need it! I havent had an "attack" yet thank fuck, but i bet I will eventually if I dont get something done.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 28 July 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

apaz we dont even need it!

tsk, the gall!

And er... stop what Mikey? *confused*

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

A warning for you all: I just tried to eat a custard scroll whose sickly-sweet fake cream and coconut layer has been "accidentally" sprinkled with salt, leading me to suspect the perky peddlers at Baker's Delight are monitoring these threads.

estela (estela), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

Ew, gross! When they first started making those savoury danish things they were using sweet pastry, and it was real weird, the mix of sweet with the salty feta, I think they figured that out and stopped glazing the pastry.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

the chinese way!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

It was awful. I shall have to have a liedown.

estela (estela), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:54 (twenty years ago)

Gaz: you mean like those chinese custard tarts that arent really sweet? I love them.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

ok now i'm having some trepidations about what sabotage will have been done to my vegemite scroll that i always get on sunday morning

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

THATS NOT VEGEMITE OMG.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 07:59 (twenty years ago)

are you going to see a band tonight jim? i have this mental image of you as someone who goes to gigs just about every night of the week. i imagine that's perfectly feasible in melbs too

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

I plan on buuzeing after I get home from my shift. In fact, I was naughty and had half a glass of wine and a couple smokes BEFORE work today, at about lumchtime. I know, thats not really naughty, but daytime drinking seems weird and wrong to me somehow. Unless that daytime is a weekend.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

my parents have booze every lunchtime, it seems pretty normal to me. although they're retired and they're alkies.

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

i am fucked already.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

My GP told me I drink way too much, and I didnt think I did! A few glasses a night isnt way too much is it?

Mind you when I told her this initially, the "few glasses" was more like a bottle a night cos I was on that shitty shift and losing the plot; I've stopped doing that now.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:07 (twenty years ago)

'they' say the health recommendation whatsit for women is 14 standard drinks a week or something, with 2 booze-free days. and i reckon that's about exactly what i drink, but with only 1 booze-free day. and the odd binge-lapse of incoherent drunkenness (though these are sadly rare these law-studying days).

my mum and dad drink at least a bottle of wine each every single day (prob closer to two), and have done for a long long time, and they both appear to be as health as could be. can't imagine their livers are in top shape but on the whole they're very happy.

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

are you going to see a band tonight jim?

i'm considering it but it depends on my energy levels. i used to go to gigs two or three times a week but it's been a lot less lately, esp while my gf is still finishing uni work (for *last* semester). i want to remedy this though (and also play more gigs of my own!)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

i could easily drink a bottle of wine every day. my body seems to handle wine a lot better than beer. i've never woken up feeling seedy after a red wine binge. can't say that for any other type of booze.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

Ooh goodness, I cant touch red, as I'm sure you know. Gives me terrible headaches.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

i'd love to go to heaps more gigs (i used to) but i'm totally broke most of the time (partly due to my cd-purchasing addiction) and also none of my mates go to gigs anymore and i'm too shy to go on my own. it's a sad state of affairs. i'm deeply jealous of people who go to lots. has your gf finished her degree yet?

hey trayce isn't it the tannin in red that makes people sick? maybe that's why.

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:17 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I think so, plus the amines and stuff, I guess. White I can manage but too much of it and my sinusues go haywire.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

Jeeze, I barely drink anything.

I drank WAY, WAY TOO MUCH as a teen and spent my early twenties popping all manner of strange and horrible things.

Now I'm a complete lightweight when it comes to anything, a complete two-pot screamer.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:21 (twenty years ago)

i've gotten out of the habit of going to gigs myself too, which is not so good. z has one semester to go and it's over, thankfully!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:21 (twenty years ago)

i pretty much stopped boozing except in moderation about 12 months ago and my tolerance is completely gone now. more than about 4 drinks of anything sends me into dire hangovers. although i got really quite smashed two weeks ago and had no hangover at all! weird. i drank lots of water in between, maybe that's why.

wow she must be excited. i have 3 semesters to go, it feels like forever. i can't wait to be in her position!

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

I like that Moloko song that starts "RAMESES! COLOSSUS! RAMESES! COLOSSUS!"

Mainly because it starts out like that.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

I really wound down after my buddy Dan C abandoned me at a house party where I woke up face down on a sofa in the middle of a pile of bodies with absolutely no recollection of what happened after I rocked up to the party and a rather shocking ATM statement.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

wow she must be excited.

to a degree (cough).. she's not sure what she'll be doing next year, work-wise. i'm sure it'll be fine but she's not as convinced.

my, this tom vek album is incredibly good.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

I like that Moloko song that starts "RAMESES! COLOSSUS! RAMESES! COLOSSUS!"

Thats a Moloko song!? I thiought it was some halfassed goth band!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

i think law is a super handy generic degree to have even if you don't want to do your articles. sets you up for most govt grad programs (fed and state) if you're the more left-wing socially type.

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

she went for one of those, was meant to hear back this week and hasn't heard yet :(

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

that's how i got into the govt actually, it's a good foot in the door. it took them weeks and weeks to get back to me, i'd forgotten all about it when they finally called me. so she might still hear from them. worth trying for a few different depts probably. i think most of them recruit about now.

gem (trisk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

I hope I don't have a two year old somewhere in Northcote.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

i could have sworn i saw this kid down the shops who was your dead spit..

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

that surprise-atm thing used to happen to me weekly when i was a proper partier mikey. also some disasterous carnal mishaps of which i had no memory. it's still a bit of a relief waking up with no hangover and no regrets on a saturday morning these days.

Yeah being nasty drunk sucks. As long as you're staying clear of the gin these days too.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

I don't think what you wrote is so terrible, and no ones called you on it yet so no big deal.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

I dont think I've ever got nasty/angry drunk. I talk shit a lot, and pass out/fall asleep, or I might get all paranoid or have a cry. But never want to fite or get angry.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

I talk to much and crack onto people I shouldn't.

Man, on my 21st birthday I'd only recently become engaged and cracked onto the guy who threw the party for me...and Darren was at the party (never became aware of what I was up to though thank Christ).

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

gosh i can't remember the last time i had gin. yeah i didn't write anything too bad. it was an emotional reaction.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 29 July 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

i don't tend to be an angry drunk. i'm definitely a self-crucifying drunk but i try hard to fend that off more these days

I HATE that photo! :)

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

It's absolutely the only thing that works for me Edward. Takes me a very long time to loosen up around anyone...and not much for me to tense up again either.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

Not only have I no courage, I actually have no idea when I'm being flirted with until someone tells me about five hours later.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Yeah likewise. It's kind of better that way for me though. At the golden circles album launch some not-too-bad looking guy was talking to me, asking me about my camera and crap and it really wasn't till I got home that I figured out he was trying to chat me up, however I was there with my mumma anyway, so uh..yeah not-so-cool.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

My last tactic: I actually ASKED. "Are you flirting with me". It worked!

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

but you'd have to ask it in an incredulous flirty way or you'd just sound like a clueless dork yeah?

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

No! I did the clueless dork thing. I've got loads of experience at that.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

According to the text message I just got Billy Corgan just covered an AC/DC song at the Brisbane concert. Weird.

Oh yeah me too. I was just thinking of what someone in a hollywood teen movie might do.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

My persona that I attempt to cultivate for such things is that of the vulnerable, adorable nerd. It has more success than would be expected (i.e. it's worked ONCE)

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, I know trilllllllions of girls who are suckers for that act including myself. It describes every guy i've ever fallen for, of course there are the other girls who go for the meathead rugby playing types. It's like the difference between Archie Andrews and Moose.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

It'd probably work if I were a bit less nice. Too nice, too nice!

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah the older I get the more I realise that being nice is a suckers game and just suceeds in making you an angry bitter doormat.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Also the older I get the more I realise that I really really love Archie comics in a fairly unhealthy way.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Not only have I no courage, I actually have no idea when I'm being flirted with until someone tells me about five hours later.

I acquire beer, bottle of bourbon, half bottle of red wine, etc, go to dancefloor where I spend several hours dancing about with incredibly hot short girl, who eventually GIVES ME HER EARRING "for safekeeping because I lost the other one", but of course by now I am too blasted to pick up on such obviousness, fall over on couch then wake up six hours later and everyone has gone home. fin.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

WHERE IS HAPPY MEDIUM??

haitch (haitch), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

There should be a gigantic disco run for shy people so they can hook up, somewhere.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

damn. you could've had some....twice...and maybe at the same time if you were really charming haitch.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Friday, 29 July 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 July 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Trayce. My problem is living in a smallish joint more than anything. I think I'll have more luck when I move to Sydney.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 July 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE JOURNALISM, I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR TIRED TOUCHSTONES OF ALL THAT IS GREAT IT ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 29 July 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

what an email to get from a friend back home. wednesday week, my friends ricky and stuart get jumped outside our local and get the crap beaten out of them. ricky grabs a knife (THE STUPID BASTARD) from his house nearby and runs at them. end result: he gets stabbed in the back twice, stuart gets a bottle in the face and is now blind in one eye and another friend who got entagled in the mess has 8 stitches in his forehead. way to go ricky thanks to your macho bullshit you nearly get yourself and the other 2 lads killed.

Michael B, Saturday, 30 July 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

Jesus!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Saturday, 30 July 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 30 July 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 30 July 2005 06:16 (twenty years ago)

fuckin hell michael! bad news.

i have a really strong feeling i will resign tomorrow. i explained my situation to someone at tafe. she approached the head teacher. i got an offer of 6 more hours. i am still getting my head around the fact that people might be nice to me.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 30 July 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

Bloody hell Mike, well, at least they're all still alive.

Does anyone else ever just read mod req for a laugh or is that just me?
-- Chicks with Dicks / Kate

moley, Saturday, 30 July 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 30 July 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm here but I'm now a big fan of the fall so I can't relate all that well.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 30 July 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 30 July 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

nevir mind. how are ya?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 30 July 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm okay. Kind of had a bad night realising that my apparent best friend is actually a really crappy friend. Nice person, but crappy friend if you know what I mean. I tried to tell myself I was over-reacting, but really I'm just being a doormat again.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 30 July 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

motivations and stuff are hard to reconcile with how you get treated i guess. nice people have weaknesses.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 30 July 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

Well her weakness is ignoring text messages, renegging on arrangements to meet up and not returning phone calls. I think I'm over it. No friends is better than constant let downs.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 30 July 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to bed. Today sucked.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 30 July 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

Kind of had a bad night realising that my apparent best friend is actually a really crappy friend. I tried to tell myself I was over-reacting, but really I'm just being a doormat again.

i've been dealing with the same sort of situation with a former best friend, kate. i have a doormattish tendency too, but finally just decided to give up on her for a while. i don't know wtf to do about it, it sucks to have to let go of a former best friend. but it sucks to feel walked on and taken for granted, fuck that.

juliaaa, Saturday, 30 July 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, you've hit the nail of the motherfucking head jules.

Help, yampy is attacking me because I reek of bleach. Whats with cats loving bleach smells!?

I am listening to "Lonely is an Eyesore". Fuck this album is beautiful *sigh*.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 31 July 2005 01:51 (twenty years ago)

I want to go for a walk to the Stinkerman, but I need to shower first, but this is a problem because all my clean clothes are still drying, and putting dirty clothes back on after my shower seems a bit geek-skank, doesnt it?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 31 July 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

Seen all the orange ribbons? They're protesting Sharon's evacuation of all jews in Gaza and the West Bank start 15th August, or something.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 31 July 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

xpost yeah i know what you mean, i have to put completely clean clothing on after a shower. even if it's something i've only worn once it's dirty.

gem (trisk), Sunday, 31 July 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

Ooh I havent seen that.. . hmm, it could be dicey times around here the next week or so then eh? Shit I hope not. (xpost)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 31 July 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

Er I mean in a few weeks, when it happens ffs. I dont even know what day it is anymore.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 31 July 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

God, this song (Dead can Dance) really *IS* a morbid funeral dirge, no wonder mum used to complain whenever I listened to this album, har.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 31 July 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

hmm, it could be dicey times around here the next week or so then eh? Shit I hope not.

Nah, probably just a few protesters maybe. They all seem pretty calm and nice around here.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 31 July 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of nice and calm, are we all just chilling out today? Wot a nice day.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 31 July 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 31 July 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

We'll help in any way we can.

moley, Sunday, 31 July 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

a grant then moley? that'd be good.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 31 July 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

i think it's better to be poor but happy. that's why i went back to uni this year. i am really extremely poor (well relatively compared to before i suppose which isn't actually poor at all if i'm really honest. but it feels poor!) but also very very happy! of course it's easy for me to talk i don't have kids or a mortgage.

gem (trisk), Sunday, 31 July 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

Yay Moley! Best thing you've ever done, this. Being unhappy is shit.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 31 July 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Yay moley!- best thing you've ever done, being first up like this.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

I feel like such a let down

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

think of yourself as the magnamamous champ - allowing the young pretender a moment in the limelight. it was your lead that the standard. it was your example that encouraged moley to strive that extra bit harder. he is - after all - almost your protogyny

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Mully. I had my time in the sun, now I've been put out to pasture like an old nag that nobody wants to ride. :P

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

I hope it's clear that I'm just joking.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps not.

I bought this Victorian watch fob on ebay. Pretty cool eh?

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 31 July 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

what a strange-looking watch.

haitch (haitch), Sunday, 31 July 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

Ah well, you see it's not. It's just a very fussy thing to hang a watch off. I actually didn't realise that when I bought it late last night. But nevermind, I just need to go buy a pocket watch to go with it now.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 31 July 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

oh! I must admit I was wondering "where's the hands?".

haitch (haitch), Sunday, 31 July 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 31 July 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Sunday, 31 July 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

what will your back up job be?

Publishing. Penguin. Hopefully.

Mully, just remember, they think you know everything. What you know is busywork, they'll lap up.

Trayce, you're such a bloke when it comes to being sick.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 1 August 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

is the Son Of Bazerk album as great as everyone says it is? ie Best Bomb Squad Evar?

I kept trying to post this on Friday but getting 404-ed on the postmessage:

I saw them (ie the Go! Team)! Gaz you missed the other thread wherein I made an oblique reference to N.H. They were *good*, but the mix was varying degrees of not-great-to-rubbish. I ignored it well enough to dance like a nutbag to the big ones, but wish it had been as awesome as it should have been.

the mono thread was all about castigating the singer. she was a bit vapid with the shoutouts, but the problem was mostly a) that she was mixed twice as loud as all the zillion instruments put together (one bloke alone played drums, guitar, recorder, melodica and two different kbds) and b) corny indie fuxx0rs were not familiar with the role of a hypeman vs a lead singer. at least they didn't ask us to chant Triple J like they did in Melbourne.

I went and bought the Australian bonus disc edition of the album at lunch today

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 1 August 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

HUzzah finally! :D I will endeavour to be at the launch (pending not being on some crap shift).

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

tugboat guitar arkestra!

haitch (haitch), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

onya jim! what are your thoughts on teh promotional video?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

haitch (haitch), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:47 (twenty years ago)

crikey

haitch (haitch), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:54 (twenty years ago)

ha ha, I might have offered Amerikka's Most Wanted except a) I want to check how many non-Bomb Squad tracks were on it and whether they bring the average down and b) Cube kinda out-Bomb Squadded them himself on No Vaseline

the new Bottle Rocket on Go Team bonus is re-recorded with vocals by the live singer, presumably to dodge US copyright attorneys. one track is from the Japanese version of the album. the rest are b-sides I guess.

the Tugboat video should have the band being gradually removed from the imagery and replaced by snapshots of the director's family, in an allegory for the production process

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

what's the name of the song, jim? maybe we can come up with some more... appropriate ideas.

xp: no actually do that one, hahahaha!

haitch (haitch), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I place a vote for the grotesque!

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 1 August 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

the song is called apples

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

i thot it looked distinguished!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

I *do* have grey hair! :D And you are only a year older than me :P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

i honestly wish i had some grey hair, other than in my nose

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

You can have mine! I dont want it.

This is how my hair SHOULD look:

http://www.memorygongs.com/onthebalcony.jpg

How it went from that lovely ruby to that washed out copper I Dont Know. I hate my hair! And I'm ugly :(

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

my temples are going much more salt-and-pepper than they used to be, with white rogues creeping further back as the mohawk grows out

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

you had a mohawk kit????

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

he sure did

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

Doesnt he normally?

I kinda wish I could grow out a grey stripe at my temples and dye the rest of my hair either back to black, or maybe a really deep blood/ruby red.

...that'd be really obvious of me wouldnt it? =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

I still haven't managed to schedule a haircut. I'm this far from grabbing some clippers and shaving it all off.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

he never had a mohawk when i met him. although - hmmmm - yes it was a style that could once have been a mohawk.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

I had long hair (below shoulders) for the last nine years, then a mohawk over the summer. have let the sides grow out for warmth in winter, am now deciding whether to keep letting it all grow out or do the 'hawk once more while I can still rely on my hairline...

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

Its weird, a 'hawk looked like something you'd had for years, you totally had the Living End/Fireballs psychobilly thing happening, I cant picture you with long hair.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

two years ago I found a photo of me aged fifteen with one and showed people and they didnt believe it was me! except that I still have the same clothes

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 1 August 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

Hahah. the Fireballs? Now you're going waaay back.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 1 August 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

Pshaw, the 90s isnt way back! ;P You kids ;)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 1 August 2005 05:09 (twenty years ago)

When I was fifteen I had beautiful girly hair down to my ears and while I was in Berlin I emptied a can of green glitter spray into it and it didn't come out for months.

I was as think as a rake too. *sigh*

I looked like one of Oscar Wilde's boytoys.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 1 August 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

col did you see blount on the lucy sky diamond thread? you have a lot to learn.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 1 August 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

I'm still sick, hi bastards. Nick pulled a 20 hour shift y'day and got home at 6am! whee. And then I went to get up and realised I still felt like hell on a gooey snotty stick. So Im still bailed up under a blanket. Need... coffee...

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

20 hours?! that's awful.

haitch (haitch), Monday, 1 August 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

It ain't the first time he's done such a shift... tis the shitty nature of the gamez dev industry (horrid deadlines... much media is similar I thnk). Itd be FINE if he got PAID for it rrrr but ohwell.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

HE'S NOT GETTING PAID????

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 1 August 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

Oh get gets paid! Just no overtime or like, decent salary ;) we've been over all this before heh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 1 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

Yeah. I sent in my resume and a cover e-mail to Penguin today. Wish me luck - I really want to hear from them. I gotta get out of here - YOU NEVER LEAVE. Seriously, half the staff are ex-students.

Noice... what specs/brand etc? Im tempted to buy a new laptop, like I really need ANOTHER one yeesh. I cant upgrade this one tho!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

i'm looking at ex-demo ones at the mo. athlon 64's, 512mb memory + firewire etc etc. HP or compaq. in theory i should be able to get one for under $1500 easily.. what needs to be upgraded on yours? i'd probably want more memory but i don't know how easy it is to do that.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

I also applied for a job at the Royal Children's as an education advisor.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

I need a better graphics card and more RAM - neither of which you can change on a laptop. I've added as much RAM as I can; bafflingly this laptop only has one RAM slot!? The manual says its meant to have two and it doesnt *grumble*.

Get as much RAM as you can - 1gb if you can wrangle it, also loads of HDD space if youre gonna be using it for music.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

yeah 60GB should be enuff for the purpose. it'll only be used for anything i can't do at home. 1GB is pretty essential for running protools..

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I'd imagine so. Pioneer apaz make reasonably hi-spec lappys for reasonable cost.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

Or was it Panasonic. I mix those two up.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

I still can't quite decide if i want a mac or not.

Chicks with Dicks / Kate (papa november), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of everone looking at teech work lately, I mentoned to Nick today he should think about teaching 3D Studio Max/Maya/photoshop at a TAFE, I reckon he'd be fantastic at it.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:04 (twenty years ago)

i reckon the way to go is try and find what courses outside the obvious use the thing you can do (eg i am teaching a bus studs course to lib students - i'd have no chance of teaching it to bus studs) using internal teachers (rather than farming it out to that other dept)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

although i am probably talking out me arse

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

how have people been coping with your imminent departure gaz?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

some people want zer gossip. some people been very nice. some people yelled at me (in a nice way). not many people know. certain people have already used it to push through something that they would otherwise have been denied (we lose gaz so we need...)

someone took me to lunch today!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

Its funny how nice everyone suddenly gets when one is leaving a job :/ Haha - when we all finished up at aye aye pee tee last year, my end date got fubared, in that on my LAST DAY I was poached into another team for an extra months work (hey, I wasnt gonna complain). Only, this was after my 2 bosses had taken me to lunch, bought me flowers, etc. At drinks that afternoon I mentioned it wasnt my last day after all, and my boss demanded the flowers back!

She was joking obv ;)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

my 2 bosses

inexplicably i read this as "my 2 boosies" and the rest of teh sentence was completely bizarre

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, my boobs taking me out to lunch could be interesting =)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

..and now I have been incapacitated with the giggles.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

I also applied for a job at the Royal Children's Hospital too, as a Education Advisor.

I better get home tonight and submit my responses to the KPI for the job. It was a spur of the moment type deal. Might give the lady a call tomorrow too.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

you're workin' like a dogg!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

If its a govt job Im sure I dont need to tell you to ADDRESS THEM CRITERIA to the letter, they love that sheet.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

Argh fuckity poohbars! Nick thought he had today and tomorrow off (after working thru all the weekend and 20 hrs y'day) but his boss just called to say "can you come in tomorrow, Act1v1s1on love the level, and we need the others the same! You'll get the weekend off!"

Gee, a weekend *off* work. What a *reward*. Poor Nick. I just woke him to tell him and he looked all miserable and went back to sleep :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, just rang the lady, said "Wahey, I was so excited that I just included a simple cover letter today, can I send you a more detailed breakdown of the KPI?" and she was all 'sure', so I will.

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

The Jaguar Who Sleeps At The Centre Of The World. (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

Aw I meant no harm! I just thoght you'd send her confusing government style applications and she'd have a fine rant about how shit they were ;D

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

hey computer guys help me out. i gotta tell some folks about puter jargon tomoorow. what does oem mean? i mean, really mean. like if a prod description sez micrsft wrks 7 oem was does that mean?

feel free to tell me abt mrcsft wrks too, if you like.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 07:28 (twenty years ago)

it stands for "original equipment manufacturer" and means its a bundled from the manufacturer version of say, hardware or Office or such.

EG an OEM version of Windows wot comes with a Dell laptop, for eg.

Not getting cold feet or anything, just... not looking forward to being held responsible for any potential fallout.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 4 August 2005 07:29 (twenty years ago)

Oh god that sucks. When I started my job that queeny "america roolz" guy was training up me and DOm, but then left suddenly one day in a huff weeks before he was meant to. We had to figure out how to run half his stupidly convoluted reports on our own with our vendors screaming at us, cos we fucked it up a bit.

Its been mostly ok, our main beef is we're now doing a job we werent hired for, and me and Dom are pissed off because we came from a top-rate ISP where *everything* has well structured professional processes, escalation paths, etc. Here? WE are the dead end for the client - if something goes wrong we dont understand theres literally ONE network engineer who is overworked and hates being asked stuff and yells at everyone. I hate being on the phone and saying "look I actually dont know what you're even asking me" but it happens a lot :/

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 4 August 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

The irony of it all being, I wanted out of a horrible red tape corporate hell hole into a small place - well now I'm in one, and now I understand how set processes actually help. Gah. THinking of going back to govt work at this rate.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 4 August 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

Yeowch. Got any ideas how to get tf out of there?

the running mannequin's lifelike leg muscles in comparison with the cut off at the waste is a bit confusing. i like the skirt though! especially with the fish nets. sorry gaz this is ruining your plan i suppose

Get one short back and sides. It helps.

Had fully sick Unbreakable moment in the gym last night. My trainer was gobsmacked at what I was lifting and kept on slapping more on to see when I'd start having trouble.

Exercise can't be rated highly enough to keep you happy and alert and with it and able to deal with all manner of guff from swine.

STOP BREAKING, ILX!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 4 August 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

it's a compaq with an athlon 64 3200 in it. it's only got 512 memory which i'm going to add to. fingers crossed it runs ok with protools (their 'recommended' models were all $3000+)..

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 4 August 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Haha for a moment there I thought you were talking abt the ilx server =)

Im gonna buy a new monitormajig after work I think. Maybe from Officeworks (I know theyre not dirt cheap but they have stuff at least)... maybe also a scanner. Hows the one you ended up gettin Jim?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 4 August 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

it's really good. i probably got one a little fancier than i truly needed but wh'evs. i have no gripes about the quality at all.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 4 August 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

herro dere. I saw rowland s. howard last night, for free!

haitch (haitch), Thursday, 4 August 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

And was it the one I suggested was good? that upright glass kind of one? or something else in a Canon? I think I will maybe get a Canon too, but probably not today - I cant see being able to carry a scanner AND an LCD screen home on the tram :)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 4 August 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

i think i got the 5200F? that sounds about right. i had no worries carrying the scanner home, the box has a handle and it wasn't particularly massive.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 4 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

nice one haitch. i'd like to play a show with rowly. he's the man.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 00:00 (twenty years ago)

yeah he's great. shame I had to leave early. he was meant to be playing with the devastations, but I only saw the solo part of the set. bumped into sasha there, too.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 5 August 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Hay Haitch I listened to that Thug song last night. Haha. Love it =) Tho I couldnt understand an effin' word he said. Was he singing "fuck you dad" or "fuck yer dad"!? wtf.

and that one that's quiet and then sort of loud and then sort of quiet and has a mostly incomprehensible lyric?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

heh heh heh. I don't think I've heard a note of theirs, apart from "itchy-woo"!

oh hey I found that go! team bonus disc last night, $11 at JB.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

Acheeyoo, acheeyoo...

ACHEYOOO ACHEEYOOOOOOOOOO!

oh nice, i shall have to pop down and grabbit

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

ooh i might look for the go! team bonus disc at our jbs then. sigur ros bore me to tears mikey i don't know how you stood it. although there is a good video of theirs that i like. with the sound turned down.

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

D'you know. I have no idea who this Go!Team are, first I ever heard of them is youse guys talking about them all the time. Are they like, big or something?

Also I have never heard Sigur Ros in me life.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

the go! team album was released aaaages ago, 12 months or so i reckon, but they've kind of just gotten a bit of a trot out because they're touring 'australia' (nb my disgust that this does not include perth). i hope that doesn't mean the perth jbs won't have the bonus disc separate - it was in a package with the album last week. nice reward for fans who bought it last year, not.

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

trayce: go! team are like - ah - the avalanches if the avalanches were a shambolic lo fi mess (ie good)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

also they play on their record a bit more than the avalanches (but only just)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

did youse see that they're re-jiggering the album a bit so they can release it properly in the US?

haitch (haitch), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

yeah i saw that. why is that, is it some copyright issue with the samples?

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

probablee. seems to be the way usually.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

it does strike me as music that kids would enjoy

is anyone else going to go see maximo park? first touring act i've been excited about in ages

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

i might have to put it on now in honour of this conversation

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

Wow I dont know or care about any new bands anymore haha I'm sad.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

it's fun music trayce have a listen in the record shop. lots of tv themey stuff! i still love it even though i've given it a bit of a thrashing all year, it's great for getting ready to go out.

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

it's funny to think that my very favourite records of this year are either flat-out disliked or entirely ignored by ILM in general.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

except the go team obv

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

which ones are those jim?

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

maximo park, cranebuilders, outrageous cherry, tom vek..

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

maximo park is the only one of those i've even heard of of course. i like it though! interestingly my friend the dance teacher is doing a track off that album for her concert too.

i just tried to find gaz's go! team thread to have a read and the search engine on ilm is dead :(

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i have a favourite record. i seem to have lost all enthusiasm. how would you search for it anyway gem?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

i tried to search go! team (as ilm doesn't talk about them that much you'd be able to find it) and then i tried to search 'bulbs' as log in name. but the search engine won't work.

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:41 (twenty years ago)

i don't say anything interesting on it

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

i like reading threads about bands before their albums have come out, you get to see opinions kind of evolving. this bit made me laugh (re: gerling):

i only have the two Fellaheen records they did back when they wanted to be Sebadoh

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

(they are awesome btw. pop psychedelia that sounds like you'd hoped it would)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

is it an annual thing gaz? who is 2005?

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

I can't rationally square my enthusiasm for the maximo park album with my deep-seated loathing with other bands in that... let's call it the "NME hair bands" genre, but I'm digging it too.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

the "NME hair bands genre"?? who else falls into this group?

i don't have the album but i like what i've heard of it

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

i think he means stuff like kaiser chiefs, bloc party, futureheads, dogs die etc (am i right? or not?)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

it's a better group of bands than the post-interpol bunch tho

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

oh i see. kind of like music that is moderately fun and inoffensive but a tad bland?

i have a bit of trouble distinguishing the kaiser chiefs from bloc party actually. i find their songs are good for running to though.

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:09 (twenty years ago)

i certainly had no idea about bloc party after only having heard their debut single it seems:

i like the compilation of the two singles. at times they seem a bit like a low-rent Ikara Colt but i think they've got a bit more depth. was very surprised to see the debut 45 go for obscene amounts on ebay recently, find it difficult to imagine them as the sort of band who would attract obsessive fans..

-- purple patch (electricsoun...), August 5th, 2004 10:53 AM.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

not so much now though

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

not to worry, they're still gettin' the law school love

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

although they have to share it with the chemical bros

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

ha yes, kaiser chiefs spring to mind mainly! the killers too, thought they're obviously much bigger than any of the others. it's less hating them and more ragging on how awful NME is nowadays, probably!

i keep thinking of bloc party, futureheads as more down-the-line post-punk for some reason. maximo park are probably closer to these.

(xp) ikara colt, roffle!

haitch (haitch), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

teehee. IK "sound" good but don't have two tunes to rub together

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

Ooeer, Trayce, I think you might even like Sigur Ros.

Lead singer of Bloc Party seems a bit of a prat.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

i heard a very good mix of a bloc party song last weekend. and actually now that i think about it i have a sneaking suspicion it was mixed by the go! team! does this sound plausible? i had to sit in the car after i got home and wait for the back announce as i was so impressed.

i think the lead singer of bloc party is hot! note this does not dispute your statement mikey.

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:19 (twenty years ago)

yeah you're right, i think it was minotaur shock

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:21 (twenty years ago)

was it tulips? "you're the one i love" etc etc? that's a v good remix

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

i think i have a minotaur shiock remix of badly drawn boy. i think it was 99c.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

oh i dunno. i knew i should have written it down. i ALWAYS forget when it if i don't write it down (hence the millions of scraps of paper and envelope with random songs written on them which i rarely follow up). i really thought it was great too. i'm not overly familiar with their songs so i dunno offhand which one it was.

gem (trisk), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

i like minotaur shock, they do good things. except their wolf & cub remix.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

there's an interview/profile on Phones in the NME this week. he gives a list of people he likes (so the nu-NME slug it as THE ACTS YOU ***HAVE*** TO WATCH OUT FOR NEXT YEAR!!! or something) and Kano is first or second on the list. so they run a picture of some black people beside it and caption it "Kano and friends".

hey Gaz I had a look at the credits on Amerikka's, and some of the best songs on it were the ones done by Cube and Sir Jinx without the Bomb Squad! (ha ha "some of" the best songs, that's like everything except the intro and It's A Man's World. actually maybe even the intro was good on that one.) now I'm waiting for the Fear remaster thingy to make me cry tears of joy.

whatever happened to sir jinx? great work on death cert and the first yoyo record then...?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

I loved it at the time, but got disillusioned by the gender politics as my teens advanced, when I realised that pretty much her entire argument for the worth of women was "yeah, well, if it wasn't for chixx0rs you wouldn't be able to get laid. so there!"

Sir Jinx probably bought a dry-cleaning business or something and stayed home playing Playstation. DJ Pooh started writing movies with Cube. Who produced the first Del album? I haven't seen that since high school either. :(

Hi mongs, guess what, gem just told me on the lurkers thread that she was too scared last Sunday to eat her customary vegemite scroll from B's D!

(Great picture Kate!)

estela (estela), Friday, 5 August 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

*kicks jim in the grill*

they split up Col! typical ego nonsense, Prime Minister Pete Nice & DJ Daddy Rich did a solo album before splitting, I think Serch only got a solo single or something. But the other two said he'd gone paranoid before the split, measuring hotel rooms to make sure that Pete hadn't gotten one with higher ceilings than him etc, and that the partnership became unworkable on completely non-musical grounds.

sadly the last thing they recorded was a track with Brand New Heavies that prompted the latter to record the entire Heavy Rhyme Experience collabo-with-rappers album, but Universal or Def Jam or whoever never let the 3rd bass track actually be used.

anyway Serch went into A&R, and (the reason I asked!) some young rapper has recently done a duet with him based on his exec role which I'll gmail to all of yers if you want

probably loads of x-posts by now

Do I see a masonic touch to the bib/aprony thing on the skirt?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 5 August 2005 05:19 (twenty years ago)

Yes exactly! I'm going to use it in my final work, but the main costume I'm making (the one with the minicrinoline) will be masonic to the maxxx.

I wish my relos in the form of my mum would arrive suddenly! She could help me clean up :( I'm exhausted now, we just spent an hour scrubbing kitchen cupboard doors and walls and stuff. I fear I'll never get the nicotieney yellow out of the house. Blergh.

did you create the yellow Trayce?

bull bum gerry (bulbs), Saturday, 6 August 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

Sure did :( Well, me and Nick and one other previous flatmate, all of whom smoke indoors like theres no tomorrow. That'll learn me! I considered liquid sugar soap til mum said it strips paint.

Me too. There's emotion trying to burst forth, or something.

That three-month contract I started, on Friday [two weeks in] they called me and said "we want to make you permanent". They named a figure and I said no. Two hours later they called back with a higher offer and I said yes. I think that means it's going well.

Adam: they're doing a property appraisal tomorrow. The place is in a right state as Ive been here 5 years now - the carpets need replacing and the walls need repainting. We're steeling ourselves to be given our notice. Its ok, we wont go far if we do ;) Hell, closer to Carlisle st if I can wing it, I've just been persuing the rentals and man, the prices have come down! For 260-300 a week I can get a really spiffy brand newly renovated 2brm apartment with a large balcony. Maybe it is time to move on. Who knows. We kinda wish we could buy at this stage as I said.

As for the writing gig, nice one! And yeah I'd be into doing some articles. Whats its scope? PC/console games?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 7 August 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

Rentals coming down? Really?? Fark, we should start looking then, now that we have an income.

Scope is videogames, but it's more about the culture than reviews etc. Hard to explain here. You're best off popping down to Borders and picking up a copy to see what it's about.

Heh. A friend of mine knows Beck Mavis, and I mentioned that I used to be penpals with her way back in early high school but I was sure she wouldnt remember me... so apparently one time benj went up to Bec at a gig and said "I know this chick called Tracy, do you remember writing her letters bla bla" and she was all "omg I sure do wow how is she?" etc. So there you go.

Education Advisor at the Royal Children's. Make sure kids get learnin' whilst getting fixed up. I kinda grew up around hospitals, so I think it wouldn't be a hard change to make.

Movies I have watched this weekend.

The Life Aquatic -> Highly Recommended.
The Ring 2 -> What is this shit?
The House of Flying Daggers -> More like House of EMO Daggers. Good Chop-sockey though.
Bubba-Ho-Tep -> Surprisingly sweet.

go on haitch! i can live vicariously through your higher bar blog!

gem (trisk), Monday, 8 August 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

I really should revive poor old memory gongs as well. I need to start writing again. Something very important in me has kind of curled up and almost died in the last 18 months or so, and I'm starting to really feel it, or the lack thereof. Something in my soul is very absent. All I am right now is work, alcohol/drugs, and bored angry frustration. If it wasn't for Nick I dont know what'd happen to me.

Today feels good though. Kind of pick m'self up and get going new. As we've been forced to spring clean the flat so hardcore, I feel refreshed, and I'm forcing myself to not touch a drop of drink or a smoke all this week (cant anyway, am on call ugh).

If I cant do this, this one last time as spring approaches, then I honestly give up and might as well drink myself to death.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

grotty yes, punk no. i've been peddling the same sound since the early nineties (at least back then it was semi-fashionable)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

x-post:
not that the Arthouse in Sydney is desirable as such! I kind of feel a glow of shame just walking past on the way to Dirt Cheap CDs or Kinokuniya, like the door itself is saying "not in those shoes mate". that said I reckon if Michael times it right (and wears the correct shoes) he could totally score some snooty corporate manager-type looking for a bit of ruff on a Friday night. the accent should work wonders.

is Kooky on these days/this weekend Gaz? I saw Johnny/Seym0ur in town the other day with Moley's sometime-bandmate so I guess it could well be back.

I'm going to Brisbane myself! But doing merch at the Hoey on Friday night.

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

dayjob (or at least arvo job) innit? I'm assuming that by doors-time he's buggering off to Spectrum to oversee his empire there, but if we cross paths during set-up then I promise to give him a biff

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

I was kindly invited on that opne because I named it - but I have nothing very informative to say about music, as you know, so I've never contributed.

moley (moley), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

I bought that spacemen 3 album out of completist habit and have barely listened to it!

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

maybe I'll put it on now, it's rather quiet in here. hey, if I started an australian idol blog, would anyone be willing to contribute??

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

recurring has some really lovely moments on it

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

Ok, I think I'm going back to lurking around here. All I do is piss and moan and I think it's not doing me any favours.

I'm too busy listening to recurring!

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

which is turning into a "side 1 > side 2" shockah, considering my spiritualized fandom of yore.

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

it has finished. or been turned down :( nick keeps saying the first track is great but...

i don't hate you jim!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

what is it you like about it? do the tunes stick with you? the craft? its hard to discern on first listen. its...nice

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

i love the tunes sure, but i adore the sound. i want my records to *sound* like theirs.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

keep in mind that i am a total sucker for pop psychedelia with phasing and suchlike

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

yes. i dunno. we are listening to the earlies now.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

Just about my job, Mully and any time I'm feeling under the weather.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

whilst i don't mind flaming lips and mercury rev i tend to find bands influenced by their more recent work really quite objectionable

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

i think i heard that giant robots record.

hey mikey its ok. stay.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

this is my first earlies experience btw. they sound ok.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

good luck moley! have you told us what it is yet...or is it hush-hush? are you auditioning for the presets?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

Geeky thoughts of positivisation:

'Oh Spirit of the Universe help moley to become all the moley he can be today and Spirit if you don't mind me saying so I think that would be best effected if he gets the job– unless the job is not so good ie people's cheese getting moved all the time and suchlike, in which case he doesn't have to get it–but ultimately it's up to You, Spirit Knows Best!'

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

how about us all estela - can you write the mongrel prayer?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

xpost maybe you can bring everyone on your national tour when you start making your millions from the music industry jim! also i think a mongrel creed is an excellent idea. i look forward to reading it.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

Oh Spirit of the Universe poor old gem is apparently a bit tired so can you help her sleep better and also she needs to have a more varied diet than vegemite scrolls while she is in the exciting process of becoming gemlightened so perhaps a nice dinner out with a nice chap once in a while would be good, also while you're at it can the right journal always be in the library when she wants it and can the usb slots not be broken all the time: all the mongs are rooting for her, Spirit, so maybe you could give her a fair suck of the pineapple?

xpost next I'll write one for all the mongs

estela (estela), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

haha you rock estela. definitely i do need the journals to be in place a lot more often, thereby saving me some time that i could use more effectively by sleeping!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

That cuts Spirit's work in half really, I hope he's reading.

Hey, if I write prayers and I rock then I must be a bit like a nun with a guitar!

estela (estela), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

a long interview is always a good sign

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

yes. another good sign is if after the official interview they sit around and chat with you.

the frightening (?) thing is that i could probably get away with it.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

How good is the sound card? Could you get frequencies so low that no one could properly hear it, and it'd make them all uneasy?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

i see so many people working on their "other" career at work.

thats a good idea sasha. jim - can i get a brown note?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:55 (twenty years ago)

it's no Oz though.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:01 (twenty years ago)

Monday night are/were great.

But some of the storylines in Oz... Asylum seekers bedding down in EmCity, solitary punishment revoked on the outcome of a basketball game... Meh.

Anyway, I missed the brown note bit of the episode, did it happen?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

no. they blasted him (the non walrus one) with HUGE speakers out in the desert somewhere. and no...shit

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

God, I would pay decent money to see that episode repeated.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

they're on a repeat cycle at the mo so it's not unlikely

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:40 (twenty years ago)

Apparently it's quite easy to make people throw up with subsonic frequencies.

-- Mike Stuchbery (michael.stuchber...), August 11th, 2005 11:54 AM. (later)

You should've seen the crowd after the SUNN0))) show at the HiFi bar this year...

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

Did people actually go the chuck?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

if they did, they're PUSSIES! they were amazing at the forum, I should've laid down on the wooden floor and felt the reverberations like some people were doing. (anyone trying to lay down at the hi-fi would never be able to peel themselves off the carpert again though.)

haitch has no respect for artists (haitch), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

i once heard a funny story about these two throbbing gristle fans who thought they would get a great view of the band if they just climbed up on these stacks...

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

did their gristle survive the experience?

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

they were too scared to try and get down

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

when i used to go to drum and bass nights, i used to dance up real close to the speakers. i reckon ed rush and optical almost gave me the brown note.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

Did people actually go the chuck?

I don't think so, but a few collapsed. Haitch, they were MUCH louder/more intense at the Hifi Bar. Maybe due to the relatively much smaller room. I sat down near one of the speakers for a while. Glad I went to the bathroom just before Pan Sonic.

It was v. hard to make it up the stairs after...

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

one of my classes became "unviable" :(

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 11 August 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

bye bye $114 pw.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 11 August 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

Hie thee mongrelos. Am feelin' somewhat better about me job today. Our boss is a good sort, he's very understanding about the massive stress everyone's under, and has been pushing shit back to the sales teams and trying to get processes in place to make our lives easier. In a few months time I might get to swap to a somewhat different, all dayshift admin kind of role, like, what I was hired to do in the first place heh.

So, I'm gonna try and stick at it. I dont like being a quitter :(

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 August 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

jolly good

not jolly good for gaz tho :(

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

can you pick up another class?

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

I just found a new model. A burlesque dancer, redhead, hottt.

I am feeling decidedly '8 Mile' at the moment and I really shouldn't have drank two cups of coffee at lunchtime to wake me up.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:50 (twenty years ago)

Mikey, I may be down in September. I have the most awesome masonic jacket, baldric and knights templar medal. You just have to be in one of my photos!

I'm playing it cool but it's terribly cruel / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm in.

I'm going to start growing an uber-victorian walrus moustache.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:02 (twenty years ago)

Awesome, although i can fashion one out of synthetic hair if you'd prefer :)

estela (estela), Thursday, 11 August 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm leaving for nine days. No internet access. I might die without my fix of checking my email constantly and ILX-lurking.

yay for your last day gaz!

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

have some brain medicine for me!

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 12 August 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

so mongrels. who thinks i should buy a digital camera today? and if so, what sort? just for happy snaps now, nothing fancy-like.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Yeah g'wan. They're ace! And you can get a right decent one for only a few hundred bucks nowadays, I think. Canon IXUS are nice, dunno if theyre that cheap tho.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

i've been wanting one for ages. i'm going up north in september, i was going to get it just before that. but it's the law ball tonight, and it'd be cool to have it for that. one of my mates got a canon ixus, seems easy to use. hmmm.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

I am an ixus pwner. SO good.

haitch has no respect for artists (haitch), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:22 (twenty years ago)

how many megapixels do i need for happy snaps?

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

Really depends more on wether you plan on printing them or not. If not, low megapixel count is fine. The pixel thing only affects printing, more pixels dont mean better quality when it comes to web snaps.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

mine is 7.1 mp, just in case!!

haitch has no respect for artists (haitch), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

i ask because the ixus costs $+ for more pixels than the powershot and i didn't really understand the difference. i don't imagine i would be printing them very often. who knows though.

the 7.1mp is out of my price range i think? i was thinking of ~$500.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

Yeah god, you only really need 2 or 3 MP! The camera makers try and make it sound like more is better, because they know most people dont know what the higher resolution does. Think of MP in terms of yer screen res. Now, images on screen are always 72DPI. AT that res, you could take a picture at 800x600 and it'd be fine. And thats not even 1MP!

The important thing is other stuff: avoid digital zoom, it does NOTHING. Try and get a cam that shows you the image on the back LCD panel before you take it, as viewfinder-only cameras are a bit of a pain unless theyre a proper SLR like mine is (and SLRs are v expensive). Check what kind of storage card it uses, get one thats a good standard. The charger is also important - my old camera could be charged with the battery still inside it, like a phone would. That was v handy. My new one, I have to remove the battery and charge it with a recharger; thats a pain.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

thanks trayce! see i knew ilx was the correct place to ask these questions. i have had a wide variety of wildly conflicting info from mates which mostly involves them trying to convince themselves they bought the right camera.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

agree on digital zoom, it's a wank.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 12 August 2005 01:35 (twenty years ago)

Theres a website somewhere that does comparison tables of features and price for digital cams. I wish I could recall the url.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

I have a little 4 megapixel sony cybershot and it's great.

I was thinking this thread could do with a touch of glamour, and behold! miss gem is off to the ball. What are you going to wear? Will you slip away at midnight leaving heartbroken swains in your wake?

estela (estela), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:42 (twenty years ago)

Keep away from the troubadors as they can be pests.

estela (estela), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i will leave too many broken hearts.... i'm considered to be 'aunty gem' at uni, not 'glam gem'. i'm going to wear my favourite fancy skirt! i'm very excited about that, i've been able to trot it out twice this year. it's a lilac a-line silk skirt with tulle and sheer silk overlays, it's very 1950s i think. and i bought a little black cami and some very cool black and grey glass beads to revamp it a bit. i'm even having my haircut (this means it will be blowdried nicely instead of any unruly curly mess)

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

sassy!

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

It sounds lovely, gem.

estela (estela), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

PIX! etc.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

assuming i get my new toy of course there will be pics! almost all of my uni buddies are going, should be ace... we've fielded 3+ tables of grad students which i think is pretty good going. i can't wait to see everyone tarted up especially the boys in their schmick suits. and meet some people's significant others and whathaveyou as well. it's at the hyatt too, a step up from challenge sports stadium in 2003 and 2004. yay!

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

I havent been to a posh dinner in way too long :( AAPT never held them, they were stingyarses. When an ex of mine worked for Shell there were always expenso do's on. Shell threw money around like lollies! We had a very exclusive poshy dinner at the Latin, which even ended with cigars and bajillion dollar port and stuff. The bill was apaz $300+ a head. And the reason for the dinner? Some people had been let go due to funding cuts, rofflecopters.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 August 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

there are quite a lot of posh dinners associated with my law school, it's a bit ridiculous. i guess it's a bit of a reflection of it being a sandstone uni full of rich kiddies. never happened during my first degree. i must say they are awesome fun though, i go to them all with my grad mates and we always have a fab time.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

effing hell.

haitch has no respect for artists (haitch), Friday, 12 August 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

but are they any good??

haitch has no respect for artists (haitch), Friday, 12 August 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

I hope gem isn't dismayed by haitch's use of coarse language as she readies herself for the ball.

estela (estela), Friday, 12 August 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

I hope haitch isn't dismayed by my dumb post.

estela (estela), Friday, 12 August 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

i shouldn't think so!

the scattered order lps are another story. contrary to what i thought, i only have their volition years which are reasonably good but start to get a bit sucky around 'comfort'..

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 12 August 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

no dismay estela, I had a bit of a roffle at that post! mind you I did bring down the tone a bit.

hey jim do you know anything about this darling downs album of kim salmon and ron peno's? it sounded intriguing when I read about it in the EG before.

haitch has no respect for artists (haitch), Friday, 12 August 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

i've heard about it but not heard it.. didn't really get much in the way of press really.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 12 August 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

I AM OUT!

I shall now begin to get SMASHED.

gem unruly curls rock.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 12 August 2005 06:12 (twenty years ago)

congrats gaz! feel good?

i never have it blowdried dead straight anymore, i realised it looks better curly. but i wear it like that every single day! so controlled curls will be a nice change.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 06:23 (twenty years ago)

it hasn't sunk in. haha they have offered me a "remedial" (read: hopeless case) small group class at tafe the replace my missing class.
plus i just got another job interview for later in month. things are kind of panning out.

we keep up the eat yr bread crusts you'll get curly hair with the kids (who BOTH had curly hair up to 3) and dylan replies "i AM NOT eating the crusts...i DON'T WANT curly hair"

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 12 August 2005 06:30 (twenty years ago)

aww cute. my hair was curly when i was little, then went kind of fuzzy and straightish for a while when i was a teenager, then curly again. dunno if crust-eating was correlated. when i was little mum used to say 'eat your crusts/weeties or you'll end up bald like your uncle dan'. worked a treat.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 06:40 (twenty years ago)

Haha gaz I said the same thing re crusts, cos I didnt want curly hair either!

And yay on getting out of the hellhole of essbeeess!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 August 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

imagine how great your weekend is going to be gaz! sounds like tafe will have classes to tide you over in the mean time as well. you must feel like a load has lifted.

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 07:03 (twenty years ago)

also trayce went shopping for my camera at lunch. turns out that canon ixuses (ixi?) are on a massive sale across perth? they were cheaper than the olympus and sony and the heavier canon ones that i'd been looking at too in every shop. the guy in the camera shop told me there is a new model coming out in october. too late for me. in any case, i shopped around and got an ixus 40 and camera case and memory stick/card thingie for under $480. yay!

gem (trisk), Friday, 12 August 2005 07:06 (twenty years ago)
