moley, Saturday, 19 November 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Hahah hey havent we had a similar title afore? Maybe not.

Gooood morning, y'all.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 19 November 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

I was wondering whether it was 100% fresh, that title. I mean, it's getting hard to come up with new stuff. Anyway - let's start talking crap!

moley, Saturday, 19 November 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

Yay!

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Saturday, 19 November 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

moley, Saturday, 19 November 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

I would've thought you'dve been one of the first people there!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

Hey you, apostrophe! Get back into position.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

Oh hang on it is.

WTF. Obviously I am not awake yet.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

I had extensions put in Trayce.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

Pics? :)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

good morning mister and miss wolfies!

estela (estela), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

What a weird weekend. I have just discovered that the bf of a very good friend of mine, who I never got to meet (cos they lived in sydney and perth) is actually A TOTAL FUCKING HOTTIE. And now he is single.

Damn you life.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha, you something has gone terribly wrong when I'm not plastering pics of my mug everywhere.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

Yes, we cannot in all conscience hassle you for pics on this one.

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

It'd be a bit vain of me not to post one I guess.

Don't laugh at me.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

Argh I look like some cross between the insane clown posse and slipknot.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

No, you look like an evil seductress in a Ben Hur movie, what's wrong with that?

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:34 (twenty years ago)

I guess it's just a little too RnB for me.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

It looks cool! Like Elizabeth Taylor. Isnt that stuff hard on yr hair? Another friend of mine got similar extensions and they didnt stay in that long, i think it hurt or something.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

(x-post) Really? I would not have got that angle - but it's hard to tell from one photo.

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

It's Kanekalon, won't last too long (2 months) which is just as well. Doesn't hurt much but hard to sleep on (explains why I was up and posting so early this morning).

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, poor Nick.

We bought Mario Kart DS and have been pwning people worldwide all weekend. Also, we watched Saw, which was crap.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Sunday, 20 November 2005 01:47 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, poor Nick.

Oi! ;P

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

hi! is lady di still around?!? :-)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 20 November 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

Aw dont you care about me anymore Tad? *pout* ;) ;)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 05:42 (twenty years ago)

di popped in briefly last week, gladdening our hearts.

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 05:52 (twenty years ago)

LIKE NICK IS NOT A FINE SPECIMEN OF A MAN!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Sunday, 20 November 2005 05:54 (twenty years ago)

Nick is totally teh hottnes, thats why I am with him!

Actually at Dom and B's wedding anniversary on Fridee someone pointed out he looks like Aubrey Beardsley.

And he bloody well does:

http://www.nndb.com/people/209/000085951/beardsley-2.jpg

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 06:03 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I should take a photo of him as a TB ridden dandy.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 07:10 (twenty years ago)

Aw dont you care about me anymore Tad? *pout* ;) ;)

oh, of course :-)

anyway, i heard "wildfire" on the radio yesterday and it made me think of lady di -- that's why i was asking!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 20 November 2005 07:12 (twenty years ago)

Kate: hey that would really work!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 07:15 (twenty years ago)

I keep on think the fucker's going to pick my pocket.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Sunday, 20 November 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

wolfmongrel! sounds a bit too close to w*lfm*ther for my liking!

kate yr new haircut is far more exciting than mine.

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Sunday, 20 November 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

A bit too close? You mean, like Deep Purple?

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 07:59 (twenty years ago)

deep purple: the first band i evah bought a tape by!

machine head btw - -still the greatest album in the universe. i was 13.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 20 November 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

Don't they have a song about funky spacemen or something? Help me out here mully.

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Hahah you old fuckers ;P

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

Morning mongrels!

http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=3202

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

...and then the follow-up hate emails from SOD fans!

http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=3240

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, SOAD fans. I had to listen to this group all the way to Canberra once.

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

"SOAD are keeping their capatilist enemy close and by being part of the system can bring the system down from inside. I personally do not believe that but considering your trying to say that SOAD want to tear down the system I have given a perfectly good and more valid rebutt."

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

omg, hahaha. imagine if he'd bagged tool though!!

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Sunday, 20 November 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

i accidentally shaved my head whilst drunk

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

bald?

hahaha, you must post a photo!

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

as good as. i forgot to put the #2 comb on :( and once you've made one stroke you kinda have to finish the job....

i'll take a photo later on. it's the shortest it's ever been, a bit scary.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

it is suprising how often the ol' "forgot to put the comb on the clippers" thing befalls the home haircutter. my mother did that to my father once, and she was sober!

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

I was going to shave my head for summer.

MC Stylised Vadge (edwardo), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

We should all go bald for summer.

moley, Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

Been there done that.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

if only i'd been taking part in movember, i could have sported the moley look

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

hi dudes! I am crashing your thread to ask if anyone in the aus/nz region would like to be an ile mod. I think it would be good to have some representation from those time zones.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

Hi teeny! I cannae do it myself. Anyone?

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Trayce would be great but some people seem to hate her even though we heart her dearly. I'm on enough to do it, but I'd be rub.

MC Stylised Vadge (edwardo), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

BAH. That's not what I meant. I mean, some people seem to get snippy with her (Trayce). Nobody could hate Trayce, she is teh great.

MC Stylised Vadge (edwardo), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

I probably could, I'm pretty much always in front of a PC during the day at work. also I don't have beef with anyone... yet ;)

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

I vote Trayce, she'd be ayce

(T. if you want you can delete my cheesy rhyme as soon as you get your new powers)

xpost

haitch would be good too. sadly I can't think of a rhyme

estela (estela), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

i'm always here. i could do it.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

you would be good too! it's an embarrassment of riches around here

estela (estela), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

It would be good for you Jim, because when you call your next record "lubricated goatse" you will be declared ruler of the entire world, and you've got to start somewhere.

MC Stylised Vadge (edwardo), Monday, 21 November 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

I'd just like to point out that that was originally my joke.

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

duly noted

estela (estela), Monday, 21 November 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

Thank you. It is rare that I make a joke that is actually funny.

I know what I'm getting R. for Xmas!

http://www.maskon.com/kerry/masks/em.htm

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

good idea. because then you can get the wig and the contact lenses accessories for subsequent gift-buying occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.

gem (trisk), Monday, 21 November 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

I wouldnt mind being a mod I guess, I cant guarantee I can react that quick to things, also Ed is right, a contingent of noizers hate me for some weird reason (or think I'm a dick, anyhow) so I'd rather keep out of all that... but yah maybe.

Jim'd be better though, he's always on and doesnt draw fire =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 November 2005 03:51 (twenty years ago)

I'm not going to cut my hair all summer and go for the Heath Ledger in 'Ned Kelly' look.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

jim doesn't draw fire because he HONOURS THE FIRE

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 04:26 (twenty years ago)

i don't really see why being universally liked would be a prerequisite for being a mod anyways. but any of the above would be good.

gem (trisk), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

R is reading an article in Harper's Bazaar called 'What to Wear to Uluru'. Among the accesories are Chanel trainers, $559, and a pair of suglasses priced at $259.

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

is honouring the fire the same as being a pyromaniac?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

for $559 i'd prefer chanel wearing nothing but a pair of trainers

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

would the trainers be worth more or less than $559 after they are permanently stained rust colour by red dust?

gem (trisk), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

...and now she's found an ad for a Hermes Stress Ball for $485. It looks like it cost 50 cents to make. And a bag to put your sponge in - a sponge bag - $360 (Luis Vuitton).

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

after everything is settled I think we should shower the new mongerator with expensive accessories

estela (estela), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:47 (twenty years ago)

a stress ball shaped like hermes?

http://elkindjal.free.fr/futurama/personnages/hermes.jpg

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

I think James would be a good mod too.....Just don't mod drunk man.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Monday, 21 November 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

I should never recieve such power.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:06 (twenty years ago)

No dont give it to Mikey! He'll go armageddon on all our asses. ;P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

On the contrary, I think he should never be sober. We need a moderator who will represent Australia and not let us down. He needs to be a strong leader, a man with clout, a man who can kick Yank arse! Forget it, jim. Mike is the man for the job and you know it.

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

Those that feel they should never have such power may be those who might wield it in the wisest fashion! A little bit of armageddon is good for the skin.

MC Stylised Vadge (edwardo), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:12 (twenty years ago)

If burnt tan is in this year sure ;)

(sorry Mikey eehehe)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:13 (twenty years ago)

We need a combination of Sir Les Patterson, Dick Smith and Russell Crowe. It's got to be either Mikey or Gaz.

Also: it should never go to Ed. He has the kevorka.

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

moley must be concerned that i will insert 'penis' into random holes in his posts

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

Trayce cannot be trusted with the power - scratch an ex-goth and you'll always find a dominatrix. Finally, it should not be Kate, as she is too fascinated by Caligula for my liking.

moley, Monday, 21 November 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

I do not have the kevorka. (But if I do, how do I rid myself of it, in a way that doesn't involve garlic?).

Actually, I'd say that your argument against Trayce is an argument FOR Trayce, and YOU KNOW IT MOLEY.

MC Stylised Vadge (edwardo), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:17 (twenty years ago)

Muahaaa. Why Ed, I do believe you're flattering me!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh, shit, I forgot that you're not really a goth.

MC Stylised Vadge (edwardo), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

Shhh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 November 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

Morning guys :)

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Monday, 21 November 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

hello again wolfmongrels!! kate your hair is wicked. i've been thinking of shaving mine all off, but with a pissfringe and a ratstail.
hi tad! that song rules. poor wildfire.
jim for moderator!

di, Monday, 21 November 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

whats a piss fringe? should i grow one?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

pissfringe - when a bogan shaves their hair completely except a fine, long fringe, wispy in appearance. usually dyed orange.

di, Monday, 21 November 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

yes, you should grow one, unless you don't want to look like a bogan. you guys have a different term for bogans tho right?

di, Monday, 21 November 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

no no we have bogans for sure.

i think my gf would kick my ass if i did that to my hair

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

ooooooooooooooooooh no. do you want to hear the story of the work chri$tmas party that turned baaaaad? I can but shake my head at it, meself.

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Monday, 21 November 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

yes

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 21 November 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

long story short: it is a) on the same day as the company AGM and a promo event that my department is having with our clients, and ONE person has to organise all three of these things in two different locations!; b) because planning was left to the last minute we've had to push it to this friday to actually get a booking anywhere; c) we've found out this morning, after inviting 30-40 guests + the 60 from the company that will be there + partners, that the venue has been DOUBLE-BOOKED. OH NOES WE R FUCT.

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Monday, 21 November 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

ha ha i asked my boyfriend what he would think of me getting pissfringe/ratstail combo and although he says its not exactly his cup of tea he would still hit it. what a world of unsexiness he is opening himself up for mwah ha ha
jeez that sucks BJTC

di, Monday, 21 November 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

oh whoops. looks like it's going to be VB in the kitchen area for you xpost

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Monday, 21 November 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

hmm, that one's a bit extravagant. like some high-fashion concept version of the pissfringe.

Lyrics:

Everybody get ready and get into gear,
the Degrassi sensation,
the one and only,
Zit Remedy is here.* (The Zits are here)
Everybody wants something, they'll never give up.
Everybody wants something, they'll take your money and never give up.
Everybody face up to the facts as they are,
Dedication is hard but, you'll be somebody and you will go far.
Everybody wants something, they'll never give up.
Everybody wants something, they'll take your money and never give up.

that guy who pretended to be Ya Kid K that one time (haitch), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

is it mean to laugh at james packer crying and apologising to lachlan murdoch over the one.tel collapse??

turboalbino (haitch), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Trying to0 get off one.tel was like trying to suqeeze through a tennis racket. They were overbilling us from day one. I thought I could trust that craply drawn hippy in their ads!

moley, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

One.tel suck. I have a very convoluted story about how they took all my pay one month because their stupid telephone payment set-up was so terribly, that because there was no confirmation they'd received my payment, I ended up paying twice on several occasions.

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

ah see I never thought that hippy was up to any good.

turboalbino (haitch), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

that new strokes song has a great chorus but the verse is appalling

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

haha onetel never used to bill me. i rang them about it a couple of times as i was scared i was going to end up with some kind of enormous mega bill - but they still never sent me one.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 00:50 (twenty years ago)

I was with one-tel for the intranot too! God, we were ALL taken for a ride. I ended up being owed $5 when they collapsed, which was amusing, rather than annoying for what some people had...

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

haha yeah my flatmate had a onetel mobile and she owed them! And never got that final bill...

Kate I thought of degrassi instantly when di described the hairdo, as well! I can remember the tune of that zit remedy song and everything.

REmember the ep where Claude the goth shot himself in the toilets? And Snake found him, and freaked out. I thought that was pretty full on for a teenage soap.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

Immoral Canadian soap-writers. I remember the tune pretty well, and can visualise the scene, RIGHT DOWN TO WHAT THEY WERE WEARING (very loud and garish), just the lyrics needed to be reminded, I guess.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Do they have jr high/high on dvd boxsets at all? I want to rewatch them all, tho I'm worried it wont be the same as my memory of it.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

I knew an immoral canadian once. ooooh, that accent!

trayce they do have boxsets, yep.

turboalbino (haitch), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

one of my friends is departing her working holiday in canada soon and going to the uk. she says it is because canadians are just too nicey-nice and no one laughs when she takes the piss out of people at the pub and she can't stand all the niceness any longer.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

Hahah. People never get aussie humour :/ My english ex rob HATED it here for a while, he thoguht everyone was being rude cunts, he just wasn't getting that everyone was being funny.

I wanna go to canada.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

my friend learnt the hard way that you shouldn't ask for a stubbie holder in canada as it means something very different over there (in a female anatomyish kind of way). unless their piss-taking skills are secretly quite advanced and they were just feigning horror at her request.

kate b (kate b), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

I've also heard that if you ask for a torch in the US, people ssay, 'Uh, would a flashlight do? We don't want to, like, burn down the building'.

moley (moley), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

$mas party update: the other booking caved, we get the main room! who'd have thunk it, those sort of things never shake out the way you want them to! now apparently I am in charge of the music, heh heh heh.

I checked my gmail just before leaving work, and a friend of mine had mailed me three hours before offering tix to that JC/DC thing at the espy tomorrow! I fear I have missed the boat. :(

turboalbino (haitch), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

moley, Wednesday, 23 November 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

what made it successful?

i am seeing emiliana torrini this evening.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 24 November 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

Well done Kate woo! Did you sell anything? (was there stuff for sale?)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 November 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Is anyone going to see Malcolm McDowell's talk at Freaky Friday at ACMI tomorrow night?

I was going to... but I might have left it too late (sold out maybe?)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 November 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

I chose not to sell my work as I wasn't happy with giving 10% to the fine art committee. I figure it's in my interests to give a reputable gallery my money, rather than some shonky university club. Also, I need to amass enough work for a proper show at the IMA, so offloading work last night would've been counter-productive.

It was successful because I got a lot of good feedback about my work. A lot of ego massaging. Who doesn't love a bit of that every now and then?!

I gave a definition of satire because motherfuckers are stupid (papa november), Thursday, 24 November 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

I live for a good ego massage. and a good regular style massage, got both yesterday!

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 24 November 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

Aw man I would kill for a proper massage. My shoulder's a mess.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 November 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

With a happy ending.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

This is the bit where I would paste a picture of much-maligned but entertaining US emo-pop group Yellowcard. Except I can't be bothered.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

I've never used the yellowcard, usually if people are such arses to get my attention they don't deserve a warning.

Also no offense to anyone who was interested and not jim, I might still pass along mod powers to someone else seeing as I will be CREATING LIFE in the next couple of weeks.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

yellow card as i understand it is a warning before being locked.. only seen by the person it applies to. and it's a noize thing only

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

oh it's not noize only? wow

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

I think you have a good enough excuse soon to not be round so much teeny ;)

(I'll take mod powers if you think we need one more on this side of the globe, but I'll probably mostly sit back and exercise discretion)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Registered Nurse, The Saints, or the Twits tonight?

The Saints have awful supports. Does anyone know what RAND & HOLLAND + SLY HATS are like?

Perhaps I could go to the Twits (Pint on Punt), then get to the Old bar before RN start.

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to the nurse. it's an entirely new band and entirely new set, written and rehearsed over the last two weeks..

sly hats are apparently galaxie 500-like but i've heard that comparison thrown around willy nilly with very little accuracy. it's dude from crayon fields. i've heard many good things about rand and holland but the proof is in the listenin'

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

Neither band really grabs me but man what a bleakly hypnotic doco it was.

moley (moley), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

hmm maybe i will get it out to watch tomorrow before the gig

recent 'rock'umentaries i have seen are the ramones one (really entertaining), some recent-ish punk doc which i can't recall the title of (ok if a little thin) and the flaming lips one (interest level directly proportional with the interest level in their music, i.e. it gets hell of boring in the later parts...)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

I really really want to see the ramones one. I have to tell you though jim, Dig! is one of the best music docos ever and you have to see it.

moley (moley), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

some recent-ish punk doc

"punk: attitude"?

turboalbino (haitch), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:34 (twenty years ago)

hmmm.. that sounds like it!

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

There's so many good rockumentaries (if you will) around at the moment. The Filth and the Fury was another one I enjoyed recently, though the story has been retold a few times over the years.

moley (moley), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the Ramones one was great. The 'Kill Your Idols' one about No-Wave was as depressing as all fuck, given that it basically painted the picture that future of NY noise depended on twatheaded fucks like the Liars, ARE Weapons and Yeah Yeah Yeahs (of which Karen O must surely win some sort of 'fucking stupid cow' award).

Well, I'll see you at the Nurse then Jim?

I'll bring you the 2 Salivation Army EPs. Have you still got 'Privilege', or should we turn this into a long running in-joke? I'll wager a Coopers of your choice for it :)

Oh, and Moley, I want more of the W. Bennett sitcom. You could easily flesh out the basics for the pilot episode by next Friday.

hahaha

moley (moley), Friday, 25 November 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

what should it be called? A thread of its own? And ILE or ILM? I find if you post a joke thread on ILM, people don't get that they're supposed to play along, add their own creative ideas etc - but this is, after all, a musical doco on Whitehouse. It should be called 'Quality Time: A Day in the Life of Whitehouse'. It should be a camera on the shoulder cinema verite experience that also includes footage from Bennet's relationships seminar. That would be very funny. I have in mind that both Bennet and Best are very, very timid and polite until things don't go their way, and then they start ranting and screaming.

moley (moley), Friday, 25 November 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

Of course, they have to live in a modest, yet very well kept (think lawn mowed every week, cute little box hedges under the front windows, flower beds flanking the path) two story fully-detached WHITEHOUSE in a street populated mostly by baby-boomers.

OTOH, the neighbours could be other members of noise groups, like an industrial music Stella Street: TG are the pensioners up the end of the Street, Black Dice are the annoying rowdy kids living in a sharehouse accross the road, Steve Stapleton's the creepy guy who seems to spend alot of time in his basement/garage etc. David Pearce could spend all day on the porch with an accoustic guitar composing songs with increasingly more questionable lyrics all day.

An episode plot for the latter could be when Alvin Lucier comes round for tea and Bennett finally cracks it after he's been repeating himself for an hour.

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 25 November 2005 01:35 (twenty years ago)

Episode 3F02: All the animals in the street start behaving strangely and it's up to William Bennett and Philip Best to find out why. It becomes clear that Campbell Kneale has left his amp on and has gone away for the weekend, and no one can get in to turn it off! Luckily, Colin Potter is in the neighbourhood and might have a few ideas...

Meanwhile the kids from Black Dice have invited their pals Wolf Eyes over and have already trampled on Chris Carter's prize roses. To make matters worse, Max Neuhaus is coming to dinner and our boys haven't even been to the shop yet!

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 25 November 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

This is quality stuff. I say we start a thread. All of these threads are prefaced with 'ILX Scriptwriters Presents:' and therefore attract the usuals - Barry Bruner, Latebloomer etc etc. The whole thing is laid out like a script, folio, etc. I've started them all so far - someone else start it. It should probably go on ILM.

"sorry once again for the slow reply. i have spent the last week cut off from the outside world- no computers, no newspapers, no telephone, no nothing. it was just me in my basement writing the most extreme black metal of all time while occasionally taking breaks to watch television, go to the bathroom, or order a pizza or something. i am very excited (yet also worried because this music may indeed drive you to hurt yourself) for you to hear the results. i have been recording the guitars with two microphones which not so coincidentally have been arranged to form an inverted cross. the sound is deadly. i can barely even make it through an entire song without having to take break because it is almost even too intense for me, the king of black metal. when i do take breaks however, i leave the mics on in order to pick up the sound of me sitting on the couch brooding and contemplating blackness. i plan to layer my tracks with these atmospheric sounds of doom. i will send you more tracks shortly. please make sure your family is away before you listen to it however. i do not wish to harm them."

How are we all today? Apparently a midwestern US ILXor who hasn't the cojones to put a name to their sniping doesn't care for my presence on this board because I am "Minister of Obtuse". They felt it was necesary to say this - to someone else, on my LJ, as if I wasn't even in the room.

Just charming. It has led me to want to start a thread about this place and the expectations of intelligence, as a sort of an absract exercise, but I'm not sure it wouldn't turn into a shitfight no matter how I approached it.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 27 November 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

Could this be another misuse of the word 'obtuse'? Fans of Whitehouse and Japanese punk noise may like this band:

Trayce, you are neither obtuse nor abstruse. You are, however, ever so slightly Mabuse.

Start by watching 'Wild Zero'. Every time a Japanese idiot says 'Lock & Loll' and makes a silly hand gesture, have a drink.

Aha Sasha, I have seen this movie on SBS. I now remember the band. It is a very kooky film. I have not tried the drinking game, but I do remember the film's presenter saying it was traditionally watched that way. I am sure it would enhance the fun.

Speaking of SBS, periodically they have an extremely bizarre documentary. Remember the one about feeders, and the other one about the band Rock Bitch. Well, recently there was one about this over-th-top, live the life European pr*n director, tracing his life story with old footage and interviews. Did anyone see it? Words do not suffice. While it was on I kept thinking 'I must tell the mongrels to turn on their tellies' but I was transfixed.

moley, Monday, 28 November 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

yeah i can do that trayce. later in the week is pretty much all good

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 28 November 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm enjoying Privilege. Previously the only stuff I'd heard from that era have been a couple of cuts from the Best Of which weren't very indicative of the album. Much appreciated Jim.

Right now though I'm listening to Dead Voices on Air's 'Bored of Canada'.

Have you gave the EPs a spin? They're only a fraction over 20min together.

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 28 November 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 1 December 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 1 December 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 1 December 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

broadcast and the pipettes

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 1 December 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

hott

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 1 December 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

ideally, there would be pipettes-lookalike grrls at this event, dancing.

turboalbino (haitch), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

that would be nice too! the world needs more of such things

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm doing someone else's work while theyre away. I have no farkin idea what I'm doing! Huzzah.

In other news I watched Garden State last night. Meh. I mean it was ok, it appealed to the girly "awww" smushy side of me but it was awfully indie-chickflick. Didn't matter though cos Zach Braff is SO HOT.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

yeah it's a shite film but i like the wallpaper shirt

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

honestly I cannot remember what I ever liked about that movie, and I thought it was ok when I came out of it. even nat portman, while being teh cutets, was annoying!

turboalbino (haitch), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

ugh i find her so gross, and pretty much all actors of her ilk

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

I remember: I liked the wallpaper shirt too. So damn tweemo though, I kept thinking it's going to ruin Braff's creativity forever; twenty years of rehashing sensitive-boy nonsense because it makes gurls on teh intarnet swoon at his genius. Get back to Scrubs (and make them a) take out all the soppy bits and b) start using library music so that clearances don't fuck up DVD releases), sook!

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

what music couldn't they clear?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

x-post she has an ilk?

She was completely awesome in Beautiful Girls but I don't think I've seen her in anything else. Wait, no, there was a movie where she lived and gave birth in K-Mart after hours. Beautiful Girls probably suffers if you've seen Garden State first, but it does have the Afghan Whigs as a bar band playing Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe!

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:52 (twenty years ago)

oh i lump her in with people like parker posey and scarlett j (who is ok i admit)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

Portman is terrible, why was she the same kooky irritating git in Garden State AND Eternal Sunshine? Arghgle.

But I do love Zach Braff, his face is always so baffled looking, he's sweet. Must get scrubs dvds.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

x-post again

I dunno if they ended up sorting it, or did have to strip in non-copyright stuff, but the first box was held up for years because they'd used so many commercial recordings in the programs. You'd think, 25 years after home video, that TV producers would think to get more than just broadcast licenses from the outset, but...

Scarlett is pretty great. Posey's best in comedy.

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 2 December 2005 00:59 (twenty years ago)

natalie portman was in eternal sunshine? i don't remember her

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:01 (twenty years ago)

(xp) she wasn't in eternal sunshine was she?

(says he who still hasn't opened the DVD, haw)

turboalbino (haitch), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:02 (twenty years ago)

thingummy braless was though (what's her name again?)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

kirsten dunst that's it

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

open it haitch! it's Gondry's best AND Kaufman's best.

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

oh I know it's good, I saw it at the movies! I just need to stop that stupid "buy DVD on whim, don't watch for six months" habit.

turboalbino (haitch), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

Hello mongrels. Hi Trayce! Look what I did!

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

current backlog off top of head:

eternal sunshine

john safran vs god
the shining
curb your enthusiasm series 3
playtime
chances series 1 + 2 (heh heh)

turboalbino (haitch), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

my methodology is "buy DVD because it's five bucks, watch some year"

Ed's an old man!

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

Suits you Ed! Looks good.

moley (moley), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

The girl what did it asked me four times if it was really what I wanted. But I was sure! Summer is no time for my awfully thick, long hair.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

OMG Ed!

(also shit yes Kirsten Dunst... I get all those floozies mixed up)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 December 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

God, NO ONE is around today. I'm kind of getting away with doing bugger all, my boss isnt here, half the sales team isnt here, its so nice and quiet!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 December 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

sounds heavenly. i have quite a bit to do but i'm useless on fridays at the best of times.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 03:19 (twenty years ago)

I am greatful for the quiescence, as I was quite teh hungover this morn.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 December 2005 03:21 (twenty years ago)

I live near Saint Ignatius. It took a while to get to work today.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 2 December 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 05:43 (twenty years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 2 December 2005 05:47 (twenty years ago)

i have had and still have a bit of FUCKING MARKING to do.

but hey i got a days work today and the boss said..."um, glad yer here...don't know what we've got for you to do as its last day of term..."

and i said...
MARKING!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 2 December 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

moley: is what i said on the ILXors-in-the-charts thread on ILM accurate?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 2 December 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

I think it got to number 66 or thereabout jim. We didn't have the charts quaking in its boots or anything, but over time I think it finally sold 24,000 copies.

moley, Friday, 2 December 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Saturday, 3 December 2005 03:20 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 3 December 2005 03:20 (twenty years ago)

hmm. what rub weather.

turboalbino (haitch), Saturday, 3 December 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

Tis rather. Its December ffs! Where are sunshine?

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 3 December 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

it's not even really that bad I guess, just... so cloudy and grey and depressing!

turboalbino (haitch), Saturday, 3 December 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

ok does anyone think a $25 tent can withstand "the elements"?

turboalbino (haitch), Saturday, 3 December 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

nooo

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 4 December 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

I got sunburnt today, obv the problem = YOU LIVE IN MELBOURNE

kit brash (kit brash), Sunday, 4 December 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Sunburn! Shit, I've just realised I need to adopt HEADWEAR now I am one of the hairles people. Suggestions, mongrels! It was unbearable today, the bloody sun. I sense heat blistering in the future.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 4 December 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

weather was nice today!

ed you should get one bucket hat.

jim how was the dj set?

turboalbino (haitch), Sunday, 4 December 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

Ed, cover your head in suncream or wear a hat ya daft bastard

moley, Sunday, 4 December 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

The suncream option is not appealing, so it will be a hat of some description. I am not the bandana type, so it must be a hat. BUT THE TYPE is the quandary. I do not know, I do not know if a bucket hat is for me.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 4 December 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

The trucker hat is the elephant in the room at this point surely.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 4 December 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

dj set went relatively well haitch. didn't get to play everything i wanted to but there was good feedback all round.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

tuggers will be on the radio (3PBS) tomorrow sometime between 8 and 9. when i say 'sometime' i mean for about half an hour probably at 8.30

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

that's in the morning by the way. i have to be awake at 6.30 :(

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

ooof!

turboalbino (haitch), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Playing on the radio? Or talking?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 4 December 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

playing. god knows what state my voice will be in at that time of the morning..

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 4 December 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

Trucker hat not best option, all the little holes in the mesh presumably still allow for blistering of Ed's bonce. Or the plastic will MELT and BOND WITH HIS SCALP, meaning he can never remove it and has no option but to start arse-banging chicks on their room-mate's couch FOREVER.

kit brash (kit brash), Sunday, 4 December 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

It'd have to be their room-mate's couch, as my couch is in someone's garage in Canberra, still! Insane, isn't it?

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 4 December 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

Unless you want bangin' ass sex in a canberra garage, then yes.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 4 December 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

Well, I guess it takes all kinds. But I don't think the owners of the garage would like it. They have small children that like to play in there.

So that's a no to the trucker hat, for fashion, logistic and sexual reasons. NEXT.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 4 December 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

A trilby?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

estela (estela), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

Or a Wawrick Capper mullet wig!!! :D

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

estela (estela), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

Or hey, revive the Sharpies movement.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

Trilby! That really would lend gravitas!

edward oi! (edwardo), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

foam dome

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

We need photoshop experts on this thread kthx bye.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Mmm iced coffee.

Does anyone remember the fairly recent Farmer's Union Iced Coffee (which is a good drink) advert that trivialised a whole lot of issues in a fairly humourous Australian way? eg. voiceover "We were there for the children overboard scandal" while the picture shows two blokes in a speedboat oblivious to the fact that the rubber rings behind the boat are empty. I only saw it once or twice. Anyone know whether it is available on the internet?

I had my first 'ebay' experience on the 'internet' on Thursday, and will soon the the proud owner of a 1962 Korg Minipops Junior drum machine.

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 5 December 2005 05:25 (twenty years ago)

first ebay experience? how did you buy that wire 45 from me?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 5 December 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

I am wondering whether to grow out my shag hair or shave it all off for my winter in America.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 5 December 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

my dome gone no.1 for summer. (pity me head is kinda weird)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 5 December 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Found it: http://www.history-ad.com/history-ad/default.aspx

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 5 December 2005 08:21 (twenty years ago)

anyone remember the milk drink named GARY?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 5 December 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

sure do gazzo

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 5 December 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

That RINGS A BELL

moley, Monday, 5 December 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

i believe i may have mentioned it before. i have billboard sized posters available if anyone would like one.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 5 December 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Sasha I hate that ad! It is disgustingly trite.

In similar OMG ad terribleness, I opened my copy of Table magazine (hey I like food porn) and theres an ad for this competition for Coon cheese. It is this: show us your best Coon pucker. People have to pucker their lips up.. um.. into fat lips.

I mean ok I get it, say "coooon!" ooh its tasty, but WHAT THE FUCK. I am seriously tempted to scan it in to see what Ethan will say.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 December 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

send in the picture of britney with the anus gob

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 5 December 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

*dies larfing*

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 December 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

What!? Did you also hate the Sam Kekovitch Australia Day lamb advert?

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 5 December 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

Ah no that one was kinda funny =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 December 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

What the fuck? I found a radio here, but it doesn't go above 105Mhz. It's got shortwave frequencie selector band, but nowhere to plug in an aeriel to receive them.

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 5 December 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

sam kekovitch should've reached sam newman's level of popularity. (instead of sam newman.)

turboalbino (haitch), Monday, 5 December 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

oh man so early

listen to peebs kids. 8.30ish

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 5 December 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 05:32 (twenty years ago)

what happened?

moley (moley), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Ahh... personal life, not doing too well.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

poor trayce :(

thanks haitch! i would have loved to have heard it on the radio. i recorded the web stream but it sounded like a watery beam from the early nineties

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

No sympathy for me, the fact there's troubles is my own damn fault :/

Anyway! It might be ok.

I'm ok.

How are we all?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

Alright! Not great, not bad.

moley (moley), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

yeah reasonably good. i have a clean house, my kitten doesn't need surgery and i have a whole weekend to myself (which i will spend sorting out my house)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Now what the damn hell is going on, Trayce?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

We promise we won't tell a soul.

moley (moley), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

sympathy and discretion is the mong motto

estela (estela), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

i thought it was "have a good time, all the time"?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

yes that's more my motto, especially after I TOLD ALL SOME OF THE SECRETS last month.

turboalbino (haitch), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm ok really! I'd rather not talk about it online, to be honest. Too much transition. Don't worry. I'm sure it'll work itself out.

Yay I'm cryptic.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 04:04 (twenty years ago)

YES, YES YOU ARE!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 06:44 (twenty years ago)

jim do you live in n0rthc0t3? I... am considering moving there.

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

NO YOU WANT TO LIVE IN BALACLAVA! where the sexy mofos like me and Crankypants live.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

yeah i live there. i wouldn't live in the south again, mainly because there's no reason for me to ever go transpontine, unless maybe i'm going to the corner or something

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

remember though that northcote is a BIG suburb. it has lovely spots and not so lovely spots. i'm spitting distance from north fitzroy so my spot is pretty good.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

I have a feeling I can't afford balaclava! unlike the "young professionals" like yerself and adam who can afford that sort of fancy livin'.

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

hmm a quick street directory search sez the place is near merri creek and teh golf course.

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

there's a golf course?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

apparently! well you did say it's a big suburb. (handier pointer: croxton station is nearby.)

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:11 (twenty years ago)

ah ok. yeah i don't know that area all that well, although i think it's a nicer spot. most of the area near the river seems decent.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:13 (twenty years ago)

potentially I could cut my public transport time from 2 hours a day to 20 minutes. I would cry HEARTFELT EMOTION TEARS of happiness if I did this!

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

transpontine! What an ace word.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 December 2005 06:04 (twenty years ago)

Transpunanie

moley (moley), Thursday, 8 December 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

wouldn't that be the bum area?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 8 December 2005 06:28 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 8 December 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I only know... two? maybe three people who are also going? most people I mention it to have no idea what it is!

I wonder who the mystery band is. (apparently they are a three-piece... dirty three?)

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

*rofflecopters* :D

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 December 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

i'm selling my guitar amp to get a different, and probably better one. i was having a look at the prices they go for and nearly shit myself when i saw the prices were about a quarter what mine retailed for (i didn't pay full price by a long shot though).

as fortune would have it they're a different (and inferior) design so mine is still a lot more valuable *phew*

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

oh well

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

MOLEY LOOK HERE

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

I've sold all but one of my copies for ridiculous sums of money already, jim! The silly thing about getting this track on vinly is that it's too fast, layered and complicated for the dancefloor. It is a floor clearer! It always gets a cheer in the first few seconds though.

moley (moley), Friday, 9 December 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

dohh

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

I am about to DJ at my office party. I have Pig's Arse. Which track?

moley (moley), Friday, 9 December 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking probably Send Me An Angel and Stimulation.

moley (moley), Friday, 9 December 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

too young for promises!!

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

Send me an Angel for cert. Maybe also "too young for promises"? how many can you get away with? Play em all!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 9 December 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

haha snapxpost!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 9 December 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 04:00 (twenty years ago)

I have to admit with great shame I have never heard an itch e and scratch e track in my life.

what am i doing back here?

The Other Kate (papa november), Friday, 9 December 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

but trayce it says "no dickheads" on the ticket!!!

BULLSSSSSZZZZZEYE!

Moley, that track is one of the five or six tracks that will bring an evening-long bout of nostalgia, which is pitiful because I'm 25 (even though I may seem like an incoherent 15 year old at times). It reminds me of the summer I returned from a german student exchange trip and set about getting to know the drugs and the drink. Ahh, what fun.

Thankyou sir.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

Ah well, at least now I know I wasn't imagining things.

The Other Kate (papa november), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:23 (twenty years ago)

which things?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

Nevermind, I'll just slink off again. That'll suit everyone.

The Other Kate (papa november), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

What?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

You pulling a...Tra...er, won't go there.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, I'm taking it out on everyone I shouldn't. Just feeling a bit sensitive. The adulation of strangers is lovely to a point and then you realise it's completely empty and meaningless and then you look at your life and think what have I got? Fucking nothing. 26 and I'm a burden on everyone around me.

The Other Kate (papa november), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:50 (twenty years ago)

The adulation of strangers is lovely to a point and then you realise it's completely empty and meaningless

oh man so otm

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

Adulation? Lovely? Point? Meaningless? Life? Point?

What the hell? You're an amazing artist and one of the few genuine people I communicate with online. Sure, sometimes you might feel like a burden, but I guarantee you there are people out there taking more and not even considering the effect they have on others.

Dang.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 9 December 2005 05:58 (twenty years ago)

Thanks guys. You know you have to indulge Trayce and I every now and then :)

I dunno, I just feel like I can never getboth sides of my life to match up...the personal and the public, and you know I can trawl the net and notice that someone's got me listed as their favorite photographer before someone like Lithium Picnic, but these days the buzz doesn't last because I'm extremely disatisfied with everything else. I dunno, I'm sure it'll pass, but I've been emptying boxes of old junk all day, and looking at the last 5 years of emphemera has got me all depressed and shitted off.

The Other Kate (papa november), Friday, 9 December 2005 06:05 (twenty years ago)

WELCOME TO MY LIFE.

I get to go to the US at the end of next week though.

do you fold towels for a living?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 9 December 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

no, i'm not very good at it.

estela (estela), Friday, 9 December 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

I stopped posting for about two weeks and no one noticed.
James did a dj set which apprently went well and is now a moderator.
Trayce had relationship issues, but things seem to be better now.
Adam dropped by.
Mikey's brother got the third degree from the cops.
Estela dropped by and said hi.

Can't think of anything else much.

The Other Kate (papa november), Friday, 9 December 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

i missed you kate!

estela (estela), Friday, 9 December 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

Kate, looking forwards to seeing you again soon!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 9 December 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

i'm sure we all noticed kate but it seems redundant to bring attention to it.. we figure you're just busy!

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 9 December 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

Mikey watched Land of the Dead and is scared of Zombies for the first time in his life.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 9 December 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I know James. Just y'know, sometimes it all gets a bit too much and then you get shitty at the wrong people. Looking forward to coming down though. I still haven't email you have I Trayce? Lights still stuck in customs. I'm getting anxious.

The Other Kate (papa november), Friday, 9 December 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

I won a box of victorian moulded architectural fittings, also for a song.

Marriage of Figaro, here we come!

The Other Kate (papa november), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Hello folks. Hi kate!!!! Hi gaz!!! Both of you have been rather absent lately.

OK so I played 'Stimulation' by Wa Wa Nee. It went down OK but damn, I shoulda played 'Too Young for Promises', you are right.

Oh yeah plus of course I played S&W. One cannot live down one's history! It was a good night.

Biggest response was to Blue Monday and Get Into The Groove. Plus all the 70's disco (That's the Way etc) went down a treat.

moley, Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:04 (twenty years ago)

Into the Groove's like the only Madonna song i like! hehe.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

Me too Trayce! Though I don't mind Borderline either.

As I type I am listening to this:

http://www.myspace.com/celestialode

Do yourselves a favour and get behind Greek melodic power metal.

moley, Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

certainly wasn't one of my songs, it wasn't quite that cheap! xposts

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

I'll check em out! Lately I'm really into 65 days of static.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

i have a song or two of theirs on various comps. seems good but i'd need to hear more

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

Theyre bloody marvellous, esp if you like Mogwai, godspeed, etc

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

I used to listen to my Mogwai albums non-stop, 'Come On Die Young' in particular. I'm getting into Godspeed, past the 'Dead Flag Blues', but I have a huge place in my heart for Sigur Ros and I don't care what you guys say.

I LOVE THE ELVES!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

...and to be really nineties, release another fucking album, Portishead!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Saturday, 10 December 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

Dead Flag Blues is like the greatest poetry ever. I fuckin love that song.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 10 December 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

hi mongrels. i'm posting from my local public library, which i just joined! it's very cool in here, there is a lot of crappy pulp fiction just begging to come and stay at my house. there are also a lot of old people. i think i'm going to borrow 7 young adult books.

gem (trisk), Saturday, 10 December 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

hi gem! borrow those books good and proper!

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Saturday, 10 December 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

there are cds here too! i'm taking out a thelonius monk one. can't believe i've never been in here before. it may become my new hangout.

gem (trisk), Saturday, 10 December 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

i wish my band photos looked that sort of boring, instead of actually boring and rather ugly.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Saturday, 10 December 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I've offered. Can't do more than that :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Saturday, 10 December 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

oh i know and i appreciate that! sorry, that was part of an ongoing dissatisfaction with many things band-related.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Saturday, 10 December 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

Ah I'm just taking the piss. It'd probably be dreadfully uncomfortable anyway.

The Other Kate (papa november), Saturday, 10 December 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm reading The Lucky Country - for the first time ever, increadibly.

moley, Saturday, 10 December 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 10 December 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 11 December 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Heh. This is why I've had to stop having booze in the house; if it's there, I drink it. Last week was a bit of a failure though, as certain stressful situations led me to having some anyway. Bah.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 11 December 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

So get back on the wagon :) Today is the first day of the rest of your life and all that :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Sunday, 11 December 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 11 December 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

Morning mongrels. I are giving a lecture today. Two hours, but I shall break it up with bits where I give humorous anecdores and speak in self-deprecating terms to make it more interesting.

And then, I will surrender to my inner racist and tell them all to reclaim City Beach from all the unsightly people from foreign. Alan Jones is having too much fun with being a cunt, I want in.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

You will soon learn how to make teacher jokes that you can re-use from year to year and class to class.

moley, Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

I've just realised I typed "anecdores". What on earth could THAT be.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

This is what Professor Dumbledore's students in the Harry Potter series call one of the old magician's rambling stories about when he used to perform alechemical experiments with Nicholas Flamel, back in the day. He tells the same stoies of the exploding crucible and the morningstar over and over, boring the students to tears.

moley, Tuesday, 13 December 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

oh man

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

Haha. I should have said it was juveline community service, given how all my classes last year refused to believe I was older than 17.

YOU TICKLEHEADED APPLEJOHN! You know that was my dad's. Plagiarist. Charlatan. BOLSHEVIK. SNOWDROPPER!

Back to lurking now.

Ho'Brien, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:41 (twenty years ago)

haha, mikey's being MONITORED!

turboalbino (haitch), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

He dug out the last microchip I implanted with a butter knife. I have to think laterally here.

Boyfriend Emasculator, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

I said it was an old staple, just not your father's gem of a line!

I would like to apologise sincerely to my girlfriend, Caitlin O'Brien but perhaps more importantly, Mr O'Brien, her father and a first grade teacher in Ketchikan, Alaska.

I am shamed.

What shames me more is that there is truth to the accusation that I am a snowdropper.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

There, I have changed my name.

Stealer Of Little Boy's Undies (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Now you must show everyone your bottom.

Santanica Pandemonium, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Nope. Fucking weird, although it is the 6th most common surname in Ireland...so, yeah I dunno what I'm trying to say.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

Kate when are you down here btw? I'll be in canberra Jan 4th-6th it looks lke but apart from that im off work from xmas eve til jan 8th or something i think.

Woo 2 weeks off =)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

I'll be down between 24th Dec and 1st Jan and then back down again for four days around the 20th of jan for this Fetish shoot.

Now that I think of it, there are three other Kate O'Briens at my university alone, so I guess it's not that weird. I like to think some day I will beat out the Irish Lesbian writer of the same name for famousness, but it hasn't happened yet :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

Ah excellent the week I'm off work. This will be ace :)

Dude, I left a comment on your old LJ (when I still had MY old LJ) like two years ago saying, "Hey, your name is Kate O'Brien? I'm Caitlin O'Brien! Wow, weird!" And you never responded, so I thought, "HATER!" and moved on with my life. O, Discordia!

Santanico Pandemonium, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 06:06 (twenty years ago)

Santanico? That don't make no damn sense whatsoever!

Wait, is that another name for that wetback black magic crap?

You're thinking of Santería, foolish man.

Quentin Tarantino named the character after this movie, (LA SEXORCIIIIISTA!) though added the 'n', I'm guessing intentionally.

Santanico Pandemonium, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 06:36 (twenty years ago)

Yeah shut up, my brother-in-law is a wetback!

The Other Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

how long does it normally take before one starts feeling any better in this situation?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 01:22 (twenty years ago)

Took me a good 6 months. I still get twinges very occasionally.

Longest it ever took was 1.5 years, but I was 18 and overly dramatic.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 December 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

oh man :(

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

Better than Bloc Party?

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

I haven't bought a new gramophone record since 1955. I certainly do not approve of these new beat groups.

moley (moley), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

oh much. i don't really listen to the bloc party album at all.

xpoost

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

I thought you liked em. Must've been someone else.

xpost, funny you should say that, I found a huge pile of 78's when I was cleaning up. No idea what to do with them, although dropping them from the back deck onto the concrete could be fun.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

i did like em but they got a bit stale for me. also i think their lyrics are fairly lame which never helps

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

What do you think of Hard-fi?

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

Nothing like Franz? I thought the single sounded very much like em! Only well, better. heh.

I'm happy to go anywhere... dunno wot the bars here in sthgate are like, the EQ bar looks nice, its got nice river views n things...

Or we could just go to Spleen hehe.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

I found a huge pile of 78's when I was cleaning up. No idea what to do with them

Theres this new Studebaker old-school cute turntable record player you can buy! Its plasticky but its like an oldstyle protable with a lid! And it plays at 33, 45 and 78!

I think it was on sale at target? or JBs, i forget which catalog i was looking at.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

the bloc party remixes are more fun than the album proper.

haitch is the realest topic alive (haitch), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

that sons & daughters album is a ripper and a half though. and so short!

haitch is the realest topic alive (haitch), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

don't think much of hard-fi either.. ska influence = the fear!!

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

spleen is fine. might be nice to sit outside too if it's not raining

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

I had to threaten a certain someone's Hard-Fi and Futureheads albums with snappage or scratchage if they didn't stop playing them.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:44 (twenty years ago)

Uh when i wrote "protable" I meant "portable" btw. I am off my trolly on cold medicine. Where am i.

Spleen has an outside??

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

yeah a couple of seats outside, unless they don't anymore?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

Oh thassright. OK well, Spleen will be ok but i wont get there til well after 5.30, it'll take me 10 or 15 to get up there from here. If you finish earlier than me it'd make more sense for you to come to sthgate prolly.. :)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 December 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

Shit guys, I can make me look good and if i can do that I can make the elephant man look decent.

The Other Kate (papa november), Monday, 19 December 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

Man, I'd actually really love to do Cherry 2000. Maybe if I make it to Sydney some time this year.

We would be honoured - stoked, even.

moley (moley), Monday, 19 December 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

Man who would've thought I'd feel overwrought over a set of lights. They just arrived and I feel kind of tearful unpacking them. I can't believe I finally have the real deal.

Yay Moley!

The Other Kate (papa november), Monday, 19 December 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

I assume youre not bringing lights with you tho Kate haha! =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 December 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Of course I am! That's the whole point :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Monday, 19 December 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

The case is as big as a large suitcase! :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Monday, 19 December 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

oh ok! hehe :D Cant imagine how the logistics work, but I'm sure you have all that worked out eh wot (man I need to clean my house)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry about your house, ours is a bomb and I have this model coming on Thursday!

Logistics works like this, qantas and virgin blue allow two suitcases, so one will be my clothes the other will be the lights :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

Ah cool.

One more thing I suddenly thought: um, where are you staying? (I feel rude for not having asked sooner... hehe I assumed you have somewhere to stay)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

janne and sami are very interested in the being done by kate

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

woo i think i may have found the solution to my studio acoustics problem

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

Staying with Aimee Trayce.

That could be interesting Moley :P

Do tell James.

The Other Kate (papa november), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:44 (twenty years ago)

these guys speak my language. their treatments are affordable, they're local and best of all their stuff doesn't have to be glued to the wall.

it was looking like i was going to have to be paying over $600 per trap. with this stuff i could cover my whole house in the stuff for that much.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

Shit, Jim I have to show this to Nick. He needs to do foley work and voice acting for his game, so I was thinking we'd need to set up a small vocal booth of some kind.

In fact I wanna buy him a good mic for xmas but he needs 2 kinds: a dynamic-range one for field work etc and one of those special fixed jobs that you use in booths that won't freak out if you move your head around, but I think theyre very expensive?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

In fact you and he should have a talk abt sound engineering, I reckon you'd have some good pointers for him (tho he seems fairly knowledgeable cos his dad's in AV)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 December 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

they don't have to be. there are certainly quite a few microphones that are optimised for voiceover work. i think if you were in a vocal booth a nice omnidirectional one would be the way to go. i am of course no expert by any means. what sounds would he be recording in the field?

xpost

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:00 (twenty years ago)

yeah i'm still learning heaps but everything is making more and more sense as i go along....

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

field stuff would be sound effects I'm guessing? Thinking: footsteps on grass/gravel etc, gunshot noises, bla bla. Apparently using sounds from soundbank CDs is costly.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:04 (twenty years ago)

Um not that he's planning on firing off any guns, ha =)

Indeed. I have some ideas already: I am imagining darkness, corpsepaint, and fierce vampiric coldness and so forth. Such things will never have been seen in history before. I am imagining that it would look cool for us to run round forest in dead of night with candelabra, screaming, gesturing at moon, and so forth. kate, you know how to apply the corpsepaint? Attitude and state of mind is primally important.

Janne Karlsson (moley), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

i'm sure he could go down to the firing range though.

perhaps something like this one

Go Mikey!!! Go for gold son!! You must tell us ho you came to have burgers with my daughter's second favourite band.

Oh yeah, good morning mongrels.

Mikey's in the woilds of Georgia or somewhere innit?

Hey kath come and hang out here, we'll feed you vegemite, dark like my soul (or something).

One of this mornings secret santa gifts was a plastic koran that plays the call to prayer when you push a button on its lid. WTF.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:35 (twenty years ago)

i got dumped for being an emotional cripple

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

I'm so sorry jim, I must have missed all that. No-one who can write songs like that is an emotional cripple.

moley (moley), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

ironically i'm also the one most prepared to work things out and make massive changes. i don't know yet whether this will make any difference either way

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

oh dear. that's not very cool jim. i'm sure i would prefer to have less song-fodder than being dumped or emotionally crippled or even have to make massive changes, myself. of course i'm not a songwriter.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:47 (twenty years ago)

heh.. i can't really write when actually sad. i work best when frustrated or in a state of flux

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

I don't think you need take accusations on board. There's no end of people, friends and family alike, who are only to keen to point the finger at someone and detail various 'flaws', even someone they love.

moley (moley), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

oh no believe me it's very much my problem. anxiety is the mellow harsher.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

you sound very philosophical about it jim. moley is right, finger-pointing tends to be an overly-popular pastime i think.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

i think i'm just so exhausted of being upset really. and i feel like i know the answer but there's nothing i can do with that at the moment..

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, you can even point the finger at yourself. Don't do it man! You are fine. You are a nice guy, not a dickhead, end of story.

moley (moley), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

thanks, i really appreciate that. but for my relationships (and friendships too) to work, something's gonna have to change.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

you know yourself better than we do jim. but i like to think that friends should love each other they way they are, foibles and all. and you seem tops to me. bah. being dumped sucks arse.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

I agree. It's possible, and easy, to love people the way they are.

moley (moley), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Hi gem! Hows things? Havent seen you round in a while :)

Jim, after htis week I have 2 weeks off and we have no plans in the immediate xmas week to go anywhere much so if you ever feel like company, come on over.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

Also, I agree with gem too. I mean I still think you're one of my best mates, you've not managed to weird me out/piss me off yet ;P In fact I thought I'd pissed you off what with my incessant fishpikery.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

g'day trayce! i've been flat out. but now i don't have much on so i have time to make important christmas visits to my key time-wasting websites.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

I've been out, not laying low and I'd like to add that even though things didn't work out between us James, it had nothing to do with any kind of emotional crippledness on your behalf (probably mine). I think when you find the right woman, you'll make her and yourself very happy indeed. Just don't ever lock yourself into....MARRIAGE :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

haha yes good old marriage eh.. yeah that's a given :)

thanks heaps guys. at least if things don't go how i want them to with this situation, i've certainly learned plenty in the process so it won't have been a total and complete waste

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

Supportive noises aside, Jim's got a good perspective on the opportunity for change being positive, esp. as in emotional crippledom impeding even normal friendships (eg. vicious circles of you finding it hard to communicate with people you like, them not bothering to make contact with you so much, you deliberately holding back from keeping in touch because they obviously don't want to etc etc etc). A shitty breakup can provide impetus to sort some of your shit out, and then get that shit together, for a while at least. And the perspective gained is never a bad thing.

Not that it's quick or easy. The other side of the coin, though, is girls who are especially interested in your retarded brain-behaviour because you pose a challenge. Ha ho.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

Ok, we were waiting for our international flight to San Fran, so Cait and I got some food from the food court. Cait was ordering a burger when I noticed one of the dudes in the next line dressed all in black, with eyeliner. I was all like 'I should recognize that dude...' when it hit me - it was one of the dudes from Green Day, Mike Dirnt. They ordered up big and went and sat in the food court while everybody under 20 in the area went batshit.

We were almost tempted to get an autograph, since we were 15 when Dookie came out and played it until our copies were translucent, I tell you.

Nice guys, very friendly bunch, talking to fans and making jokes.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

We also went to a Sonic drivethrough just before - I'll upload a pic I took of the menu...suffice to say, it's the War and Peace of the fast food world.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

In that it's too big to finish?

ratty, Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Exactly. The key is to look at a small corner of the menu and pick something at random from that.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

and not supersize it... although the temptation to do so, just to photograph what comes to the counter, must be great?

Hay guize, where in the city can I buy a Sony minidisc recorder from? One that's good for field recordings. I think I'll get Nick one for xmas. Is the Sony Store a silly idea ie too expensive?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 01:01 (twenty years ago)

Hmm. I too would like a minidisc for that purpose. I regret now selling mine to Andrew years ago. However, I'm sure a new one is out of my price range. Ebay?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 22 December 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

I can ask if my husband will sell you his, he never uses it anymore.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Thursday, 22 December 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

I got free chocolate filled croissants...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

Also dude, this is Melbourne, its never THAT hot here :(

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

Well, everytime I got to Melbourne, I'm confronted with a bloody big billboard that says "THIS IS HOW MUCH WATER VICTORIA HAS GOT...ER, NOT MUCH!" Running out of water...in Melbourne.

Where did all your water go anyway?

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

CUB

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

Well, I suppose the kittie cats have to drink water to produce the urine...

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

Har!

Are we still in dire water straits? Seems like we've had plenty of rain lately.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:26 (twenty years ago)

Mind you anything that stops dorks from washing their driveways with hoses is a good thing.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

really they should sort out the 70% of water that gets used up by farmers, the city water waste is... wait for the water metaphor... A DROP IN THE OCEAN!!! compared to rice farmers flooding their paddocks with the contents of the murray (a practice conducted by relatives of mine to great profit, sadly).

waldo jeffers scenario (haitch), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:14 (twenty years ago)

coincidentally, you mongrels will be pleased to know that i have confirmed my honours topic as water law this very morning!!! i'll soon be able to bore you senseless with my ill-informed views on city water waste, water guzzling white goods and the uselessness of enormous lawns. i bet you can't wait.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

water can guzzle white goods??? OMG

waldo jeffers scenario (haitch), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

it's hungry

gem (trisk), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

Washing dishes in a dishwasher usually uses less water than by hand.

Don't the various water administration boards charge you for having a roof tank? What sort of fucked up-ness is that?

Kate, that would be good.

Hmm. Still sick, now with an ear & lung infection. Missed my birthday and a gig, looking like Christmas too. I hope I'm better by the 29th/New Years.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

wouldn't that depend on what sort of dishwasher you use and whether it has a half cycle and how often you use it vs how often you usually wash dishes. i thought most of them use 15+ litres, which is a fair bit in one go, but not if you only use it once a day and would have otherwise handwashed three times?

gem (trisk), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:23 (twenty years ago)

anyways, my focus is going to be on defining and giving statutory effect to environmental entitlements with the purpose of protecting ecosystems from irrigation under WA legislation. since i agree with haitch on the farming front. and water is going to be a valuable resource and we have no means of finding a legal property right in it such that it can be traded here in WA. i'm very excited! it's a pretty new area.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:25 (twenty years ago)

I did my first cheesecake pinup shoot today:

http://static.flickr.com/41/76175061_cce8ef48a9.jpg

Um...I hope it's safe enough for everyone's workplace.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

what's a cheesecake pinup shoot? is that a technical term or a particular project? it's cool anyways. i like the way it's all 50s but she has the blonde streaks in her hair.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

It's the name they call this kind of shoot. Who knows why!

Maybe cause it's cheesy and sweet at the same time, like cheesecake?

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:44 (twenty years ago)

Yah cheesecake = Bettie Page, that kind of thing, very 50s indeed. Thats very cute/hot Kate! She looks great. I so wish I could get my friend Nadia to pose for you.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

I wish you could too! Would you believe the girl in the pic is a mormon? .....Well she's apparently given it away but still goes to church with her family.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

rowr

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:59 (twenty years ago)

She was a totally cutie. Makes me wish I was male/lesbian so I could appreciate it more.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

Have you seen any pix of Nads, Kate? Shes milli on LJ, she's really cute and loves the camera. Very blonde rockstar chick these days. Bit Gwen Stefani looking (nothing like the curvy goth she used to be that Jim would remember).

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

Cool, I will have a look now :)

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Damn, she is hot!

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

Hell yeah! Her hubby is hot too, covered in tatts, real psychobilly stylee.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

Why do these people have to live so far away?!

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Tell me about it, another best friend of mine has just moved to the UK. Gah! STOP LEAVING YOU BASTARDS.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Here's another one:

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

Yum. The other great thing about 50's cheesecake shots like this one is that the models usually have a very womanly, full figure. Which is nice. Isn't it jim?

ratty, Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

Wow, she has great boobs.

I'm so sorry heh.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)
