I had a FAP in my bedroom on Sunday!

You read my thoughts (xpost)

oi oi.

Sailor Kitten (g-kit), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

so, er.. fancy a pint, guys?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

I have yet to experience a FAP. I think that’s mainly because they all seem to be in London. Does anyone do a FAP in the north?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

aye, in glasgow :)

(and edinburgh this saturday.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

I need to try Glasgow. Their FAPs sound like so much more fun. At the weekend, we decided that we were going to hire a big van so the Shimuras and a whole gang of Londoners could try Glasgow, but then I think we sobered up.

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

aye, in glasgow :)

oooh, too north. manchester area?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

I considered heading up Glasgow direction over the weekend, when accentmonkey and her Bloke were around, but it turns out that the Glaswegians can't organise a piss-up in a brewery pub :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

not actually true :/

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Don't spoil my illusions.

(Next you'll be telling me that all Glaswegian boys don't look like Bobby G)

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

People are still having FAPs.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Is the 21st Xmas FAP still on?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

hire a big van so the Shimuras and a whole gang of Londoners could try Glasgow

yes! FAP/gig/lunacy ahoy. this is a great idea. get drunk again and do it. (although get someone else to drive, natch.)

it turns out that the Glaswegians can't organise a piss-up

oy! we had it well organised. for friday. but then accentmonkey turned out to be eating posh scran instead. i was forced to drink triple vodkas to get over the crushing rejection.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

Well, Ed did agree to drive, and he can't contradict me as he's trying Helsinki right now. I think so long as we can find a place to stay over so he can also drink and have fun the night of the gig without having to worry about getting home immediately.

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

don't forget the 27th! or the 28th or something.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

The FAP on the 27th - afternoon or evening?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

New licensing laws mandate - both!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

but before the mandate pubs already open both afternoon and evening anyway!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still up for driving people carrier to glasgow. House rule: no Screamadelica.

Up for further drinking any time I'm in town.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

glasgow fap is def in order for asap in '06 plizz. can we stay for 2 days so we can wander round your fair city? am sure any provision of sofas, floors etc will be reciprocated by your hospitable london ilxors.

are we trying to organise a pre-christmas fap fap here?

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

that was the idea yeah! like next week or something.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

Andrew, I still owe you a tenner!

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

I live just outside Glasgow, but I'm sure it still will seem relatively local compared to getting to outlying bits of London. And I have a spare room with a small double bed in it if anyone wants to stay here.

So, yes, come to Glasgow! But post about it on Try Glasgow More, I think AccentmonkeyFAP failed slightly by being organised on I Love Books rather than ILE (and to be fair, most of Glasgow seem to have ended up out together anyway)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

Is anyone ever going to fancy a pint in the North? I'd be up for some sort of Yorkshire FAP.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

Yay for Shimuras Try Glasgow! Ed will drive the Mystery Machine! I'll bring Scooby Doo! Excellent.

However, I think that we should not hijack the beast that is the Glasgow thread for this - I, for one, would rather not wade through 5000 posts of N. shaking his non-existent hips and RJG correcting everyone's commas, no matter how pretty the Glaswegian boys are.

(No Screamadelica? Awwww. How about XTRMNTR, then?)

Believe it or not, there is better Glasgow music than PS.

(No Screamadelica? Awwww. How about XTRMNTR, then?)

Music with more vowels please. Driving to glasgow with Screamadelica reminds me of one climbing trip to the Cairngorms where it was the only tape we had in the minibus for 8 solid hours on the way there and on the way back, oh the humanity. Anyway, less prml scrm, more Hawkwind and Gong (and the Rambling Sailor).

Ed (dali), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

Andrew, I still owe you a tenner!

Haha yes, you took advantage of my "new in the big city" innocence. Off the plane, first weekend in town, down Club Seal to see my friends. "Sure, I can spare a tenner, this is my new life now", I thought. I never saw any of them again. Spare a tenner, guv?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

Ah yes, I have plenty of Hawkwind to last all the way to Scotland! But if we listen to that kind of music, we'll all have beards by the time we get there! And I'll have the Shimuras dancing naked in cages! (Wait, on second thought...)

Andrew, beware Londoners and their "spare a tenner" ways. ;-)

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

"we'll all have beards by the time we get there! And I'll have the Shimuras dancing naked in cages!"

Hawkwind never put Stacia in a cage! (She'd have broken out of one easily!)

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

OK, then, we'll be dancing around naked smeared with woad. We'll be putting the sullen Glaswegian boys in cages. Hurrah!

Well, Dadaismus you'd have to move to California, and grow your hair, but he'd probably let you.

ha ha, I tried to google my dad, but I kept getting some Aussie soap star.

My dad:
http://www.well.com/conf/party/picnic04/af.jpg

His band's ponytail contest:
http://www.well.com/conf/party/picnic04/TreasureHunters.jpg

(Not really, Ha ha, it's just photos of my dad's geeky interweb friends' FAP, but you get the idea.)

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

And it's on topic, because they are FAPping in Cali!

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

I might struggle with the hair bit but I can always wear a hat

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

No, sorry, but you'll have to wear a wig. As you can see from the photos, the hairiness is Urgent and Key. (though actually I think my dad prefers earky Yes to Hawkwind - shock! horror!)

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

Oh right, the deal's off then

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

I am not listening to Hawkwind. I am not dancing naked in a cage. Kate, buying a house is causing you to loose your marbles. Go and lie in a darkened room with a cloth on your head.

I would like to go to Glasgow though. I like Glasgow, although it ties with Venice for the place I've been the absolute coldest ever in.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Because of what? The wig or the Yes fandom? ;-)

x-post, ha ha, I knew it!

Anna, if I have to cover Love Is A Battlefield, you have to cover Hawkwind. That's the way it works. However, it will not be *us* dancing in the cages, it will the hott Glaswegian boys.

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

I say, loose your marbles, let them run free and wild, to all corners of the room!

I would like to go to Glasgow though. I like Glasgow, although it ties with Venice for the place I've been the absolute coldest ever in.

Have you ever been to Edinburgh?

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Avoid Aberdeen would be my advice.

Yay, make Marianna agree to this and COME TO GLASGOW!!

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, there's always the Ultravox option! (Kate thinks: why have I let this woman, with her crappy taste in 80s pop, into my band? Why? WHY?)

I have never been to Edinburgh.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

ultravox, vienna is too perfect to cover.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Glasgow, cold? Last time I was walking around in a jumper and a leather jacket and was barely nippy. Mind you, it was August...

And I bet Vienna is even colder! Heh heh. And we've not even heard AMP and Marianna's covers suggestions...

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Edinburgh - that North Easterly wind that whistles thru those shortbread tin streets is almost as cold as its inhabitants (Edinburgh that is, not the shortbread tin)

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

If you want to cover something 80s that could be improved by 4 part girlie harmonies go for Being Boiled by The Pre-Girlie Human League.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

In Aberdeen (and the East coast of Scotland in general) it's the wind chill that's the worst. Inverness is more inland, it's less chilly.

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

I would imagine Inverness is more sheltered than Aberdeen but I don't know. My family is from there, but I've only been during the summer.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Inverness is not inland, it's on the coastline! It is less cold than Aberdeen, however this is what I believe is known as damning with faint praise, since even Margaret Thatcher's heart is less cold than Aberdeen.

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

Do not destroy my dreams of Glasgow as the abode of thousands of beautiful boys. I've seen the FAP photos.

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

a few bottles of buckfast and you'll be fine.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Oh right, I see, a woman who isn't a Bobby Gillespie fan - hooray! (xpost)

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

STOP DISSING THE BLESSED GILLESPIE!!!!

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

OK, wait, googling "glaswegian boys" brings up this:

http://www.exclaim.ca/images/up-thumb_franz_ferdinand.jpg

Final proof that all Glaswegian boys are NOT hott. Cancel the FAP, then. :-(

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Are you sure we're talking about the same Glasgow here?

Oi, lots of nice people here, you know. Or maybe you don't, since you love Glasgow so much you fucked off down south :) Glasgow FAPs are generally quite the parade of handsomeness, I'll have you know.

I have seen Bobby Gillespie in the pub twice in the fourteen years I've lived here. First time he looked quite cute in a shabby kind of way, second time he looked like a manky old skank who I wouldn't touch with someone else's bargepole.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

(Actually, when I lived in Islington/Hoxton/Clerkenwell, I used to see Bobby G on a pretty regular basis, so I don't know wy I would have to go to Glasgow to see him. However, in my dreams, *all* the boys in Glasgow are as handsome as Bobby G (oi! stop it!) so I could skip down the street in joy.)

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but there's a fair amount of boggin', humphy-backit, skelly-eyed, pure hackit types too... oops, sorry, wrong thread!

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Whereas the streets of London are thronging with George Clooney types, I know. I've been there.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

yes, well, we already knew about Dast00r, but the rest of the Glasgow ILX0rs are pretty good looking!

A TRUE STORY:

a few years ago, shortly after "give out ..." came out, a pal of mine was walking past the old copthorne hotel (now the millennium) by george square.

out walks bobby gillespie. "oy," he says to my pal, "got a match?"

"yes," replies my pal. "my arse and your third album!"

and off he walks, feeling astonishingly pleased with his quick wit.

100 yards later, it dawns on him that "give out" wasn't actually their third album. it was their fourth. so he's just dissed "screamadelica", one of his favourite albums of all time. to bobby gillespie.

he runs back. there's nothing there except a spent match and the faint trace of cigarette smoke.

the tit.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, that was almost genius

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:25 (nineteen years ago)

I will walk 500 miles, and I will walk 500 more, just to be the guy that brings your stuff to your door.

No, actually, I think I won't.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

Hello London Andrew!

(Sorry Matt DC)

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

And well done Ken C - you should FAP on the 13th as it is my birthday and you should go out and celebrate in my honour. But mostly because you want to.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

More salacious stories about Bobby G, please!

Or photos of lovely Glaswegian lads! Should I just go and hang out by the art school with a big net and a pint?

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

So, is it true, about a FAP, next Tues?

the bellefox, Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

yes it is PF. Location not yet confirmed.

I'll have a drink in your honour Lara. Maybe even 2 drinks!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

Hello Dublin Lara! I'll be back in town on the 15th, if you're still celebrating.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

Tuesday? There's a London FAP on the 21st, which I think it a Wednesday.

Wait, what is this Tuesday FAP? Where was this discussed, or did I miss it in all the Hawkwind and Glaswegian chatter?

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

16th, sorry. Second time in 2 days for that mistake.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

there is a FAP next Tuesday, the 13th, yes. In honour of Lara's birthday.

Location not yet confirmed, something makes me feel that this will happen at a samuel smith's establishment.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

I thought that was happening in Inverness! Blimey!

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

Minttu is a Finnish mint liqueur. It's also about 50 per cent, but doesn't taste so. Interesting things happen when you drink Minttu.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

That explains what's going on in all Tuomas' photos!

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

no inverness happens nearer xmas. or rather may happen. as it is far from confirmed.

i might actually be in milton keynes instead! (have to work out whether i have the funds to travel scotland again this wobs)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

I danced with Bobby Gillespie at Glastonbury, in a tent, with Motown playing, at about 6.30am on the Monday morning! Well, I danced near him while he molested a woman who looked exactly like Bobby G with breasts. It is not one of my fondest memories.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 8 December 2005 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

I'm moving

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 8 December 2005 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

HI DERE. Where is it at?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 12 December 2005 23:25 (nineteen years ago)

There's a FAP tomorrow? I'm not sure I can make it, sadly. If it is happening.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 12 December 2005 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

Tomorrow? As in today? Eh? This may be the last day I can FAP for a while - unless anyone wants to come round my NEW HOUSE tomorrow for pizza and beer. (You may be required to shift a box to claim your beer.)

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

tongiht yeah. still up for it if you guys are.

how about some kind of central london pub place. i'm at a meeting around barbican until about 7pm and then i'm all up for booze

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

how about the Lord John Russell?????????????

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know, I'm not sure you have enough question marks there ken

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:50 (nineteen years ago)

How about somewhere not in the EEZOHAD? You only want to go there for the cute barmaid!

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:50 (nineteen years ago)

what's the Eezohad? Of course I only want to go there for the cute barmaid! and the budvar.

where do you think then if not LJR? LJR is nice though.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

Cute barmaid? That sounds good. EEZOHAD??????????????????????????

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

also easy for me go get to by bus after barbican meeting.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

even cuter than the barmaid at the Pineapple in Kentish town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

ACtually, I'm trying to remember which one the Lord John Russell is. It's in Bloomsbury, isn't it? Maybe I'm confusing it with Mabel's Table or whatever that pub was called.

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

There's lots of cute barmaids in the world.

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

yeah bloomsbury. just up towards euston road from russell square. the one with the cute barmaid!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

there's also lots of not very cute barmaids in the world. and worse still barmen!!!!! gross.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

It's just that there's really no easy way to get there without going past Joe's house. And sorry but I really don't want to run into him. :-(

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

where are you coming from?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

Great Queen Street.

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

oh man that is quite hard to avoid yeah. unless you take the 91 up to euston road and go round...

any other suggestion for pubs then?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:00 (nineteen years ago)

The Lamb

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

... and I'm not even FAPing!

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

THE LAMB IS EVEN CLOSER!!! Plus, he actually goes to the Lamb.

leave it at the Lord John Russell, I'll take the bus up to Euston.

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

sweet. who's all coming then? i can get there for after 7pm.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

here, a proper thread
FAP digest: tuesday 13th (i.e. TODAY) at Lord John Russell!!!!!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:10 (nineteen years ago)

There was a Bobby Gillespie doppleganger that used to frequent clubs at Edinburgh art college in the early to mid 90s. Come to think about it, i saw him in Glasgow too. My friend's godmother is his second cousin (bobby g not the doppleganger).

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

What? What? Are we talking about Bobby G on every thread now? Oh, my poor head.

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

ken you are as bad as my work colleagues who insist on going to this crappy bar (it's definately a bar) so that a supposedly cute waitress can flirt big tips out of them.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, who (of the Glasgow ILXors) remembers when Bobby G's dad ran for parliament as a Labour candidate (the thickest, most useless parliamentary candidate of all time) in a by-election in a safe Labour seat Glasgow and GOT UTTERLY TROUNCED?

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

Bob Gillespie. He made John Prescott seem like Edmund Burke.

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

I need to find a pub which is staffed exclusively by floppy haired, pointy nosed, sullen Scots Bobby G lookylikes. And then we can FAP there all the time.

x-post come on, even MY dad did better than that!

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

maybe there should be a london fap'pers BOARD

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

I thought that was what the Steering Committee was for!

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

ed but LJR is acutally a nice pub! and the barmaid doesn't get tipped!

what are the criteria that warrants a new board these days? two threads a week?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, I want to come, to the FAP, later!!

the bellefox, Tuesday, 13 December 2005 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

So, hey, is there another FAP soon? You had better tell us. I think Kenneth said 21st Dec?

the bellefox, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 19:06 (nineteen years ago)
