and the mongrels say "what do you meeeeeeean?"

OK, detail your $mas plans. I am going up the country, canned heat-style, with the rest of the family to visit the central victorian relatives. I am just not interested in going, to be honest. but you do what you gotta. then I have to come back down and work next wednesday and thursday. thankfully I get the week after off.

(that reminds me, is there a FAP while kate's down? I'll have to holla at adam, I dunno if he even comes here any more.)

waldo jeffers scenario (haitch), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

How is there only one response, you chatterboxes?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 22 December 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

maybe its achristmas thing. everyone is getting drunk or something. where in the states are you again?

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

NW Georgia.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

is that the only place youre visiting? friends there?

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

My girlfriend's family live here.

We'll be visiting Atlanta, checking out the surrounds, maybe venture into Alabama.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Good Morning!

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

morning

i am at work an hour earlier than usual. this is what giving up caffeine seems to do to me

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

Ick, especially on a Friday. What's going to become of you?!

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

i.. don't know!

actually i'm hoping to leave earlier than usual today. i have a potentially very stressful evening ahead

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

"How is there only one response" he says at TWO AM ;P

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I noticed that. I thought what do you expect Mikey, we've all gone sleeps.

The Other Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

NO!

I just got to work and I already want to leave. Seriously, I have farkin nothing to do, I'm only here for the apparent brekky we're having in an hour.

Anyone wanna go for a drink later this arvy? I have to go to the Sony shop and stuff but apart from that nowts on.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

i have so much to do today :( dangit

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Hullo mongrels. Has anyone on this bitch ever heard "exo" as a slang word for "excellent". I'm told it's apparently Australian slang but it can't be too widespread, surely?

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

sounds a bit perthy. they say 'mintox' too

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

also: 'untold'

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

My dad says exo, but only in recent years and Ive NFI where he picked it up from.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

'mintox', now that is a singular expression.

Yesterday, to my amazement, I discovered there was such a thing a dinosaur pr0n.

ratty, Friday, 23 December 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

I knew a girl who said it as an interjection. I think it might be an Xtian thing, if you google it you get "THE BIG EXO DAY" or something which is a j3sus thing, and this girl was a youth group type, def. Aside from her, I've never come across it.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

does jesus often google himself?

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

Does he do anything else?

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

Does he do anything else?

why yes– apparently he spends all day, every day, loving me! an unmusical man with a tamborine and a shady past told me so!

estela (estela), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

You can love someone while googling yourself. Some people google themselves while doing all sorts of things online.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

God runs google, so jesus is just checkin' to make sure dad's bigging him up like he should be.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 05:44 (twenty years ago)

by the way, is this thread title a talking heads reference?!?

well spotted, sir.

trayce: I think you need two copies of the game to do the link. other games such as mario kart ds serve tightarses like me well by letting several people play with just one copy of the game (due to some nifty data transfer stuff).

esteban: definitely the latter, I think. have you noticed how tubby cannot say the word "plasmavision"??

waldo jeffers scenario (haitch), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

etc: I would nearly bet my house that the "move your feet" on that soundtrack is by a "house band" of some sort and not jr. sr., but I have no definitive answer.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 29 December 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

Fukk dis weather! My normally rock-stable laptop has crashed THREE TIMES since last night, and by crash I mean "doo de doo type away on the net.. oh. My pc just shat itself and turned off with no warning".

...I *was* looking at pr0n at the time but I dont think I have any virii...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 December 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

(IOW I assume it is overheating - the area around the chip is so hot you cant touch it, it burns the fingers. That aint right)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 December 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

No, I'm sure pretty sure it was the PORNOGRAPHY you were viewing, Trayce.

Even if it is TOO FUCKING HOT.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Thursday, 29 December 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Ai Ai Aiii, PORNOGRAPHIA! MUY PELIGRO! TRAYCE, SCANDALOSO!

Seriously, why you gotta tell a mongrel that?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 30 December 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

Lordy is it hot.

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 30 December 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

42 tomorrow, man.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 30 December 2005 04:24 (twenty years ago)

It hasn't been too awful here. The nights have been a bit warm, though. I'm glad I didn't fly home for December like I did last year.

My aunt has offered to pay for me to fly up to Brisbane for a week next month. Should I do this? I hate accepting gratuities. Plus I'm doing a week in Melbourne in February... and I have work I must get through... dilemma!

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 31 December 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

it's only 20 in perth today. first nye party i'll have to wear a jumper too since i was overseas. if summer doesn't come soon i'm going to demand a refund. the december average is usually 29 and this year it has been 23!!! wtf.

gem (trisk), Saturday, 31 December 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

After being 42.5C in ADL yesterday, it's "only" 38C today. They reckon we'll get an evening thunderstorm, so NYE might not be that sufferable after all.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 31 December 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

We're not getting 42 after all, its only 25 right now, not too bad at all! Thank gawd.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 31 December 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

NOT FAIR. I HAD TO SUFFER THROUGH 42-DEGREE HEAT, SO SHOULD YOU!

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 31 December 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

i'm starting to get a bit scared that our lack of summer is going to be promptly succeeded by some kind of sweltering 40+ heatwave that lasts for 2 solid months. that would be even less pleasant than wearing a jumper to a nye party.

gem (trisk), Saturday, 31 December 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

we've just jumped from mid-30s to 41.4 in the last hour. ooof!

waldo jeffers scenario (haitch), Saturday, 31 December 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

we have? wait where are you H? The age webby says its 27?

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 31 December 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

the polite thing to do would be to share some of that heat with us, your chilly western cousins.

ok happy new year mongrels. i have to go because there is a guy on the pc next to me who has apparently drowned himself in that apalling lynx deodorant shite and it is seriously choking me. someone should ban that stuff for crimes against noses.

happy 2006, y'all.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 31 December 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

happy new year mongrels!!! i do not envy your 40 degree heat business one bit but IT IS RAINING in dunedin, pfft. oh my god the renderers were so good. they played three sets and most of the first set was old skool stuff. and they NEVER play the old stuff. before the third set my friends dragged me to a party which had a PIG ON A SPIT ewwwwww but my crush from two years ago was flirting with me and it was great but awful too, i think she was just flirting with me cos she was drunk. what do you guys think? she kissed me three times on the cheek (she isn't one of those air-kissy kinda people) and encouraged me to feel her butt (after she sat on someone's sandwich tho). but her ex girlfriend was at the party and i think they still have unfinished business. girls are so confusing.

what did everyone else do????

General depression, a desire to get healthy, also, superstition and belief in patterns against common sense.

Would that one could be drunk without the pesky, yet oh so gratifying alcohol...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:01 (twenty years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:03 (twenty years ago)

We saw the fireworks from a rather unsatisfying ditance (Sydney Park) then back home to make a magical fairyland in our back garden. Much depravity followed.

We appear to have made the classic 'no food in the house on Jan 1' mistake.

ratty, Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:39 (twenty years ago)

I am thinking of getting continuously drunk for all of 2006.

waldo jeffers scenario (haitch), Sunday, 1 January 2006 02:17 (twenty years ago)

I might have the odd glass of red to relax me occasionally, and a light beer from time to time, but any more ain't gonna be good for me. (I SOUND LIKE TRAYCE GO ON MOLERAT POST YOUR FISH PHOTO).

Saw the fireworks from a great location but can't remember where. No really drunk or abusive people around. There was some guy playing crusty pop classix on an acoustic outside some pub and I danced around to that. Is it true that when you are sloshed off your face on gin, champagne and beer that "500 Miles (I'm Gonna Be)" is actually the best communal singalong song ever, even though at most other times it's kind of annoying?

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 1 January 2006 02:36 (twenty years ago)

I stayed home and watched bad santa (fantastic), the song remains the same (unintentional roffles), and the last waltz (surprisingly excellent as I have never really been interested in the band in any way whatsoever). I then fell asleep on the couch. it was a bit of a quiet one.

I can see you in that stipey jacket H. But I think your suggestion on the pants is right. However, I defer to people with better taste.

I suggest a straw boater.

the jacket is indubitably ace, I hope you wore it to the Brit60sArt exhibition and someone looked for your pricetag. I'm sure Moley edges me on the snappy dressing front, esp. with the co-ordinated ties. My day-to-day style is v. more casual, though I'd happily be dressed and sent out by Kate.

I like his pose! It's 50's braggadocio. A little awkwardness is part of the, erm, James Deanesque vulnerability of the aesthetic.

ratty, Friday, 6 January 2006 02:16 (twenty years ago)

The girl's pose is equally contrived, in this way that is oddly appropriate for the rockabilly aesthetic. I don't know, maybe I'm not making sense.

Here's Sydney's best psychobilly act, Zombi* Gh*st Train:

http://www.arkoff.net/zombie/images/zgtbw.jpg

That's one step beyond... into Misfits territory perhaps. Musically, they love all the classic moves and sounds. Good party band. Yeah, the hottt girls love 'em.

gem (trisk), Friday, 6 January 2006 02:25 (twenty years ago)

music critics mauling each other puts me off listening to music too hard. surely it must take some of the enjoyment out of it, dissecting things to that level.

gem (trisk), Friday, 6 January 2006 02:45 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I fancy one of them at least has had some kind of tertiary music education. I like to think I can hear that in a band's arrangements.

ZGT bands are always PACKED with hott rockabilly (and goth, oddly) girls. Either in packs, or attached to bequiffed bruisers with packs o' cigs rolled in the shirtsleeve. Last time I saw them, they had a team of burlesque girls from Melbourne doing shows in between the bands, it would have been Kate heaven. (Photos here, including a bloke I w0rk with in one of the supports.)

I'm pretty sure Stu [the lead singer/songwriter] didn't have formal tertiary music education, he went to Newcastle and did design or video or something. But he's been working at it for a long time, I've been going to see him play since Boxing Day 1987.

Is it even legal to bike in the tunnels/ on freeways?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 9 January 2006 00:14 (twenty years ago)

I grew a beard over here but Cait made me shave it.

The trip's been good. We've been puttering about the house since Christmas, but next week Cait's brother arrives and we do Atlanta, a couple of Civil War battlefields and lots of shopping.

It's nice out here. I don't even mind that the neighbours get drunk and start target practice around dusk, firing rifles into the woods. It's calm, it's lovely and still.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 9 January 2006 00:21 (twenty years ago)

ratty, Monday, 9 January 2006 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Hell naw, we have Crows all about the house, huge bastards who caw loudly at dawn and dusk. I've seen a couple of Robin in the woods too.

There are squirrels everywhere. Walking the quarter-mile to the letterbox will have you scattering the little buggers everywhere.

I haven't found any this time around, but walk around the woods long enough and you're likely to kick up an indian arrowhead up to 10,000 years old.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 9 January 2006 00:37 (twenty years ago)

No, I think they did it once on a critical mass ride though.

Hey, from this thread: /ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=40&threadid=46332

What I heard was one of the scariest things of my life. It sounded like a collaboration between Merzbow and The Books. There was a layer of pure noise and on top of that were various sampled sounds. I'd hear the mumbling of conversation, suddenly a full on scream from somebody else, another voice say something inaudable, and other unrecognizable sounds. The entire thing had a certain rythm to it.

Almost perfectly describes my new band!

I haven't found any this time around, but walk around the woods long enough and you're likely to kick up an indian arrowhead up to 10,000 years old.

Sasha, I'd read that! The other thing methheads do around here is coil and uncoil wire, so that's something else you'll find when they get busted.

The arrowheads? Buck, buck fitty?

Today, has been a good day so far. I have defeated the buearucracy at a certain educational facility and I don't have to return there 'til studies start again on Feb. 7, got a little bit of work lined up and finally collected my $40.05 from the NYE Lotto draw.

On the downside, it's too fucking hot.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 05:36 (twenty years ago)

Sadly, I don't have a scanner and The Advertiser doesn't have the kitty on the website...but here's a transcript.

Now that's one Mein Ktaz

It's not just we at Confidental who think Hallett Cove kitty Nemo bears an uncanny and unfortunate resemblance to a certain reviled German dictator.

Owners Sharon, Ashlee and Erin reckon they have had between 10 and 15 people wander down their driveway just to tell them "gee, your cat looks like Adolf Hitler".

Nemo sports the perfectly plastered black fringe as well as the signature moustache.

"Everyone says it," Sharon says. "It's funny to see people's reactions sometimes. They stop, do a double take and come a little bit closer. Then they ask if we've drawn it on."

It's not. Nemo was born with the Nazi leader's features.

God bless News Limited for the quality piece of journalism.

First of all, Trayce, it's CUETT not 'cute'. Secondly, it's because we want to attract older, pervier women or men.

ratty, Wednesday, 11 January 2006 03:52 (twenty years ago)

Hey I'm already older and pervier and I'm still not much of a beard fan ;P

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:05 (twenty years ago)

According to my [unpublished] etiquette book, people with beards should never eat pastry.

I have a lot of other rules in there besides that one.

estela (estela), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:11 (twenty years ago)

hey Ned, does the Darwin-Adelaide train give you the option to get out and spend a day here or there in Alice or Coober Pedy, eg? Or does it just barrel relentlessly through the desert, charging from night to dawn like a great steel ...cock? if the latter, it's possibly not worth it, just because so much of the NT warrants unhurried, leisurely contemplation rather than hi-speed sightseeing. if the former, then TOTALLY GO FOR IT.

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:18 (twenty years ago)

i think it does give that option of hopping off and strolling around. i thought about going on it last year to meet up with my brother in adelaide, but i couldn't afford it. it's more pricy than i was (perhaps naively) expecting. i guess that wouldn't matter so much though if you were (a) not a poor(ish) student and (b) travelling on US$.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:22 (twenty years ago)

According to my sub-clauses croissants count as pastry so people with beards aren't allowed them. Vegemite scrolls are on the bread/pastry border, meaning people with neatly-trimmed goatees or similar may partake but the full beard and moustache brigade may not. They can have a plain bread roll, though only if they take it outside on the grass and eat it where no one has to watch. They must carefully wipe their beard with a napkin after eating or I will lock the sliding door and pull down the blinds.

In the 'trains' chapter there are gentle but heartfelt exhortations against the practice of comparing trains with penises.

estela (estela), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:27 (twenty years ago)

i was hoping you would elaborate on the contents of said book estela. the detail of the beard etiquette leads me to wonder if perhaps mr estela is bearded/moustachioed

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:29 (twenty years ago)

just because so much of the NT warrants unhurried, leisurely contemplation rather than hi-speed sightseeing.

What!? NT's the only State/Territory with no-speed-limit roads.

In the 'trains' chapter there are gentle but heartfelt exhortations against the practice of comparing trains with penises.

Even when they're going into a tunnel?

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:31 (twenty years ago)

Beardies eating meat pies = worst of all.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:39 (twenty years ago)

this is true. also beardies consuming chunky soup like minestrone and such. especially if they have a bread roll with it. oh dear. beardies must be forbidden from food.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure Ned will take the opportunity for some 200k nude van surfing, but yer Olgas and whatnot do impress more if you spend a few hours wandering around and then watching 'em change colour as the sun sets than if your bus tour trundles past and a bloke says "CGZRRRHSSTCH ON THE RIGZHT OF THE BUZS ARE THE OLGASZ, OTHERCHWISE KNOWN AS KATA TJUTKA TBZZTCGH". Likewise Kings Canyon better enjoyed clambering along cliffaces like a lizard than glancing at a postcard. And I just love dusty outback towns anyway, but that might be a minority, non-tourist attitude...

Does anyone know roughly what a 30 yo Ibanez Roadster II guitar (woodgrain finish) would be worth?

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 06:24 (twenty years ago)

the lack of "thug rap" is baffling, mind you. (xp)

The problem with visiting Alice Springs is that after five minutes, you've seen it all and want to go.

Jim, absolutely glowing review of the new Tugboat album in today's Beat magazine.

THE ESTEBAN BUTTEZ REVIEW OF THE NEW TUGBOAT ALBUM:

I like the cover. I don't know if I'll go to the bother of finding an actual physical copy of the album. But I do like the cover. Especially the oranges. Nothing wrong with a good orange. Full of Vitamin C, Damo Suzuki!

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

I still think it's a splendid album, Jim. Reminds me of back when I used to go to Candle Records showcases, in a good way.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Could it use an Esteban Buttez spoken word track? Most albums these days could use an Esteban Buttez spoken word track.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

You can have a spoken word track when MC Stylised Vadge gets around to making an elpee.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I would like to play 'Immigrant Song' with you guyz.

From the Br*g (with 4 stars out of 5:

Jim, Bek and jeremy are three Melbourne individuals who for a nice little music entity. Tuggers motor alonf a popsteam inhabited by wonderful, well-read bands of the late 80's like Galaxie 500 (who incidentally have a little tune named Tugboat). The expert sound quality of 'Two Schools of thought' immediately hits you like a spray from a shaken bottle of bubbly popped at close range. You are invited to bathe in its lush sonics. Bek's drumming is crisper than a box of cracked cookies. Jim's vocals are purer than freshly-fallen snowflakes (Ratty comments: we have a new nickname for you, jim: 'Snowflake'). Jeremy is the wizened bassplayer/keeper of the truth. Opening track 'War Against Silence' is a sweetly swiling psych pop souffle. 'Apples is just as good, probably even better. It's dangerous for the simple fact Bek is on vocals instead of Snowflake and she has the tendency to make indie boys swoon. I know this because I'm friends with some of them and I am usually the one who has to resuscitate them. 'Tiny tales' is so deeply pretty I have to listen to it more than once at a time (five times in one day is uncommon, however it has been done before). 'Off-side' is riotous guitar pop, reminiscent of late-period Clean. The album itself is nicely paced with some songs stopping short of the 2-minute mark, others edging past three, yet none exceed four (Ratty comments: jim, never EVER force me to do this again), except the illuminating 'You can't Lose...' which clocks in at 6.08 and evokes an atmospheric super-jam featuring the Pastels and MBV that you wish went on for another sic. There could only be one school of thought about 'Two Schools...' and that would be that there's thirteen shimmering sonfs so necessary you wonder where they've been all your life. The best thing to come out of Melbourne since Origami, SLICE.

ratty, Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:05 (twenty years ago)

Ok I made that last bit up.

ratty, Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:06 (twenty years ago)

That aussie rap thread is kind of embarrasing. Why does everyone always pull out fucking tired cliches like shrimp on barbies, "funny" aboriginal town names, kylie minogue and rolf fuckin harris (who's effectively a damn pom anyway).

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:06 (twenty years ago)

awesome is as awesome does (lucylurex), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:48 (twenty years ago)

has she left her fiancee because of her uncontrollable passion for you haitch?

gem (trisk), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:50 (twenty years ago)

speaking of annoying or possibly endearing national icons, do you australians get the advanced hair studio ads on tv, with the washed up old cricketers like david boon and martin crowe and shit i think the less washed-up shane warne is on them? and does anyone else find them utterly enthralling?

awesome is as awesome does (lucylurex), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:58 (twenty years ago)

i'm not haitch, in case anyone's confused.

awesome is as awesome does (lucylurex), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:59 (twenty years ago)

yes! advanced hair yair yair. they crack me up! i hope they get paid a lot for those ads. i imagine it must be quite humbling for them signing the contract.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:00 (twenty years ago)

also sorry, i don't know why i thought you were haitch. because he's always changing his username i suppose. and i exist in a state of total confusion all of the time.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:01 (twenty years ago)

I know the US of A likes to drag out those ancient Paul Hogan jokes but our tourism authorities really does bring it on ourselves.

Trust me, I've seen the advertisements in lectures...

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:03 (twenty years ago)

i hope this isn't offensive to anyone on the thread who has a receding hairline, but my favourite advanced hair ad is when martin crowe is talking about his wife's reaction to his new do.

and not a problem re haitch confusion.

hi pipples, my little dishevelled dog is lying pressed up against the toilet bowl to keep himself cool, he swivelled a lazy eye at me as i walked past the doorway & now i feel sleepy.

estela (estela), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:10 (twenty years ago)

xpost - i know, did their wives only marry them because of their luscious full heads of hair? i guess cricketers aren't renowned for their sharp intellects though.

and i don't know anything about your crushgirl, but feel free to update away. everyone loves hearing about other people's romances i think. especially me.

and i'm kinda jealous estela! our freakish not-summer continues in perth, anomalous to the rest of the nation - 19 degrees and pissing down with rain. bizarre.

erm Di, the update on teh crushgurl if you please...?

ratty, Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:13 (twenty years ago)

chocolate orgone accumulator (haitch), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:14 (twenty years ago)

Oops, the Br*g review is word-for-word the same as the Be*t one.

I sense a payola scandal!

Incidentally, the Shane Warne advanced hair adverts are great, because of the huge reference (and therefore admission) of his lewd mobile telephone stalking women conduct.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:14 (twenty years ago)

xpost - yeah! i need someone to have a massive crush on too. i'm starting another clerkship next week, i'm hoping there will be some fanciable young lawyers for me to fawn over and i can jump on the crush 06 bandwagon.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:16 (twenty years ago)

poor gem, getting doused in perth:(

crushtalk is always nice to read, it is a grace note.

estela (estela), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:20 (twenty years ago)

okay, update... she didn't take me on a date yet! the flow got interrupted on saturday night. we went to a vegetarian bbq and em's ex got drunk and quite jealous cos em kept flirting with me (fuck she's a charmer! helped me with the arduous task of picking biddybids out of my crimplene blazer). ex slides down steep bank 3 times and crashes heavily on the concrete. our friend andy gives her a stern telling off cos we were all worried she would break a limb. later on after some pool we were on our way to karaoke and ex picks a rather public fight with em cos em didn't ask her how she was after the bank-sliding incidents. we all leave them to it and keep looking for karaoke bars.

so yeah EX issues as predicted. but its finally died down! after our jam yesterday the ex very graciously declined to come to our trip to the beach and to our screening of glen or glenda, giving me and em heaps of alone time. its progressing slowly but surely and i like her and the feeling is mutual :-). i'm pretty nervous about the possibilities cos i have known for ages that i liked girls but never been with one before. its also ace cos i didn't think any lesbian would ever want to date an inexperienced bi woman who already has a boyfriend.

awesome is as awesome does (lucylurex), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:34 (twenty years ago)

oh my god, i don't think we get the shane warne ads where he refers to the textual harassment! oh for if we did.

oh gem i feel the bad weather vibes. we been getting brief glimmers of summer then day upon day of downpour.

in other news, there is a very persistent male cat trying to adopt our flat as its new owners. we can't open any door without it inviting itself inside and making itself at home. we are prisoners in our own home!!!

awesome is as awesome does (lucylurex), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:39 (twenty years ago)

it is clear your house has been added to the cat registry: you may as well fill the milk saucer and turn on the heater, there is no use fighting destiny.

estela (estela), Thursday, 12 January 2006 03:08 (twenty years ago)

har, too funny col. i guess theres no denying it now, this cat owns us. we have even taken to calling it after some really sleazy guy we know who humps people's legs and will pester women long after its clear they don't want to hit it and invites himself into unsuspecting women's bedrooms and the like.

quarter of a million euros, trayce. i said to the mother that she could have bargained for more but she reckons if they got someone to check the place it wouldnt be so. anyway, how bad? 250,000 euros is roughly 450,000 aussie dollars.

x-post: its the extended genesis stuff you'n'geir love ain't it edward? the side long suites?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Gaz: nah, mostly Nik Kershaw electro and synth-pop stuff.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:06 (twenty years ago)

absolute values re: pop music are fairly spurious anyway. i was an art knob re: kershaw and i dunno if its worth letting it go. ok, maybe it is. i do admit i was a knob...but still...kershaw...i...i...i...can't.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:09 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:10 (twenty years ago)

I used to be a big Nik Kershaw fan, chut up! :(

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:10 (twenty years ago)

but there's taste overlap, and then there's rational discussion!

gaz u gotta feel "wouldn't it be good", admit it.

chocolate orgone accumulator (haitch), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:10 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I've had rational discussion with Geir lots of times. It's usually OTHER people who get him all het up! On this occasion, though, he's talking absolute crap.

Nobody is going to start using "rockist subtractivism" in everyday parlance.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:12 (twenty years ago)

i appear to have a large dark inkblot in my memory.

the only rational discussion you have with geir is if you use limits. you know he's in "here". you go "here". its rational i guess. like a game.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:14 (twenty years ago)

thank fucking christ for that!

chocolate orgone accumulator (haitch), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:14 (twenty years ago)

er, xp!

chocolate orgone accumulator (haitch), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:14 (twenty years ago)

its just you know his response will be "here".

rationality is overrated. in a time of dying enthusiasm/love i need something outside. love for no known reason.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:16 (twenty years ago)

Oh great. Now I don't have a clue what you're talking about. I have been hit by an dumbening ray.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:19 (twenty years ago)

me? haitch?...its just irrationality is where you find love, no?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:23 (twenty years ago)

Are you implying that I love Geir? Because if so we're going to have to STEP OUTSIDE. Or something.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:24 (twenty years ago)

I just ate half a cake. I think I should eat the other half, then revisit the thread anew.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:25 (twenty years ago)

no no no no. just saying if gier is defensible cos he's rational i am not interested. coming to an i love music board for rationality is kind of strange. i am not interested in "rationality" and music. just like i'm not particularly interested in saying "ew, kissing...what a weird thing...highly irrational"

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:26 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:35 (twenty years ago)

It is a word. To cover with gloom, to sadden. Coleridge used it.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:38 (twenty years ago)

i dug out 100's of cds i thought were maybe just kind of almost ok today and the kids and i did a "ok or not" test - ie shall i throw them in the garbage (i though they were all candidates)

the kids have done this for me before. i play them a couple of trax - they say "thumbs up" or "thumbs down"

lotsa so-so drum'n'bass, electronica, indie rock, avant twitterings.

the only ones they gave thumbs down to was like sahara hotnights or shit. anything that had a guitar basically.

the avant weirdness they gave thumbs up to immediately.

anything that started with a synth float and a loop bryn thumbs upped within 10 seconds. dylan - wearing a headband and cut-off womens tights - swayed for up to a minute with his eyes closed then "thumbs up" too.

ah, my kids.

then we had cake.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:41 (twenty years ago)

you have taught them well!

chocolate orgone accumulator (haitch), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:43 (twenty years ago)

only five days til my next holidays. sweet.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Sunday, 15 January 2006 23:15 (twenty years ago)

what was she wearing?

A sparkly top (that looked like a dress, but appeared to cinch in and stay still at the waist, so I'm assuming it was a top) that tied behind her neck. Black material and black not-sequins. Long hair in a ponytail, possibly held in a vertical clip. Couldn't tell about bellybutton down, she was behind decks and is wee. I'm guessing faded blue jeans, though.

Her DJing style was: fade one record down, fade another record up, wander away while beefy bloke kneeling on the floor behind turntables plays with effects rack a bit and sampler a lot. Except she stood there and mouthed along with the Richard X remix (I think) of No More Conversations by Freeform Five, and on something by Goldfrapp (maybe a version of Number 1?), sampler bloke captured the beat and kept it going while she slowly backspun to the top of the verse. We left before she finished though (the place was half-empty by then already), maybe there was some stunning display of turntable skillz by the end, like actually mixing the end of one record into the beginning of the next.

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 16 January 2006 01:33 (twenty years ago)

Hahah god, even goth club DJs do a bit of beatmixing now and then! That sounds utterly lame.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 January 2006 01:35 (twenty years ago)

This is why she sells fuck all records. THE HIPSTERS THAT GO TO THESE CLUB NIGHTS DOWNLOADED YOUR RECORD IN 2004 AND EVEN THEY ARE NOT IMPRESSED WITH YOUR DJING. YOU NEED TO GET ON THE RADIO TO REACH REAL PEOPLE!

Feh. I am crabby.

I always told people that DJing is the biggest scam ever.

Proof!

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 16 January 2006 01:53 (twenty years ago)

The Modular bloke on before her wasn't much cop either, he kept dropping the wrong fader early on so the song would cut out, crashed the beats a lot, and played a ludicrous streak of Moving On Up at +11 followed by a LIVE VERSION of Ask at +2 and then some-other-old-indie-song-I-like-but-not-at-+5-and-not-when-I-want-to-dance... later on he was playing Justice-y/SebastiAn-y stuff but couldn't capitalise on a build-up ever, and he was on for like 2 hours between the time they said "DJ Annie up next!" and Annie actually coming out.

The dancefloor got COMPLETELY PACKED for the live set by Van She, aka the Wolfmother of 2006, in that they got signed to Modular after three gigs and apparently have a fashion/hipster buzz. The bloke from the Bumblebeez was listed as DJing, but just walked around in a New York basketball singlet. Let down or lucky escape? YOU DECIDE.

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 16 January 2006 02:04 (twenty years ago)

DJing is a huge scam. I should know, I benefitted from it for ten years. I never had decks at home and learned how to beatmix at various events. It's easy to do! A piece of piss. And people thing you are GREAT because you can play records. Unbelievable.

With I&S, after we twigged that people though our gigs were just DJ spots anyway, we stoppped taking our studio gear, and just took a handful of CDs instead.

ratty, Monday, 16 January 2006 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Trayce's fave at karaoke:

Well I'm rather upper class high society
God's gift to ballroom notoriety
And I always fill my ballroom
The event is never small
The social pages say I've got
The biggest balls of all

I've got big balls
I've got big balls
They're such big balls
And they're dirty big balls
And he's got big balls
And she's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all

And my balls are always bouncing
My ballroom always full
And everybody comes and comes again
If your name is on the guest list
No one can take you higher
Everybody says I've got
Great balls of fire

I've got big balls
Oh I've got big balls
And they're such big balls
Dirty big balls
And he's got big balls
And she's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all

Some balls are held for charity
And some for fancy dress
But when they're held for pleasure
They're the balls that I like best
My balls are always bouncing
To the left and to the right
It's my belief that my big balls
Should be held every night

(oh) We've got big balls
We've got big balls
We've got big balls
Dirty big balls
He's got big balls
She's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all

(oh we've got big balls, we've got big balls...)
And I'm just itching to tell you about them
Oh we have such wonderful fun
Seafood cocktail, crabs, crayfish... (but we've got the biggest balls of them all)

Hurry up lunchtime! I'm starving and I'm going to have a nice sit down restaurant lunch with nick today. Yum.

ratty, Wednesday, 18 January 2006 00:32 (twenty years ago)

oh we tried that at a jam the other day and it totally didn't work. you need to be able to drum like a robot to keep in time. which is cool if you CAN drum like a robot.

awesome is as awesome does (lucylurex), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 00:33 (twenty years ago)

yes, drummers tell me it ain't easy but you get into the swing with practice.

I am having a haircut today!

On Friday, I have a job interview at a winery - but I'm expecting them to offer me shitty hours.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 00:51 (twenty years ago)

Dont drummers wear earpieces with a clicktrack when they gots ta drum along with sequencers?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 00:56 (twenty years ago)

yup! a woodpecker in one ear, that sounds bad for your hearing.

ratty, Wednesday, 18 January 2006 01:04 (twenty years ago)

there is this remix that got posted on the maurice fulton thread on ilm a couple of weeks ago, the first couple of minutes are obviously sequenced, then there's a drum solo/breakdown and the beat starts again, but with what sounds like really sloppy live drumming over the top. (although I have a feeling that this may also be programmed funnily enough.) it sounds AMAZING.

For once, I actually know so I tell her, and she's kind of staring at my arm for some reason - for like 10 seconds after I gave her the answer. She thanks me and says "Oh, cheers man, you're SO nice!" and I'm thinking "What's going on?".

Ah yes, she's staring at my arm because under it I have a urine sample bottle, and a piece of paper with my name on it and all the tests I'm having done. Way to overshare accidentally with a stranger, idiot. (Nothing serious, mongrels, worry not).

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 21 January 2006 06:33 (twenty years ago)

you make it sound like white wine doesn't deserve you, that you could do better for yourself
-- estela

Estela, you have inspired me in song. Ahem.

(curtain draws back: orchestra plays swirling introductory piece in the style of Daedelus only seasick before settling into a classic Hollywood showtune as always seen on the Simpsons):

I'm wasting my time on chilled white wine
What's it ever done for me?
I'm wasting my time on chilled white wine
When I could cut all my ties and be free

For I know that out there there's a merlot with flair
Or, instead, a dry red, for the quaffing
Then again, there's champagne, we could sit by the Seine
And a thousand baguettes we'd be scoffing

But... (backing choir enters, and orchestra swells)

I'm still wasting my time on chilled white wine
I'm a dupe and victim and fool
I'm wasting my time on chilled white wine
Tasteless, transparent and cool

(little drunken tap dance routine, then gypsy quartet plays cheeky waltz):

What is about such a stringent drink
That brings out the cash in the girls who wear pink?
In a land that is giving us world class shiraz
See them quaff on a spritzer while listening to jazz

(chorus)

(end)

ratty, Saturday, 21 January 2006 06:35 (twenty years ago)

now there's a song that would make ann-margret dance!

Oh Ratty, we hate you

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 22 January 2006 10:16 (twenty years ago)

At the start of the week I thought I had a slightly sore back, but it's not really like that and it's has become increasingly worse. It's more of a nagging achey pain than anything "structural". So I don't know, but it isn't getting better, just worse. I've been getting a reasonable amount of sleep but I've felt lethargic and worn out all week.

Funny you should mention that:

"He's not tied up. Just happened to land on rope we had there. I mean c'mon, you can totally see both his feet are free of the rope!"

Given where the rope is, I would've had to tie this Tawny Frogmouth up by the balls as both his feet are plainly visible.

YES! We caught the BART (their MET) into town and took a cable car down to the Golden Gate area and had lunch, before walking to Fisherman's Wharf. SUCH a beautiful city! We are so moving there!

THEY HAVE IPOD VENDING MACHINES AT THE AIRPORT!

Yeah but... HILLS! TOO MANY HILLS.

Still. Noice.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 03:21 (twenty years ago)

Ah, but Trayce, that's what the Cable Cars are for! And hell, the Cable Cars are an ADVENTURE! You're SURE you're going to hit someone and the things build up quite a bit of speed. It's an adventure every time you go down to the milkbar!

You can never have too many hills Trayce. Those humps. Those humps. Those lovely ley line lumps.

She's been known to sleep on piles of dry leaves... (papa november), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Oh no! I clicked on it again to see if you were right. Haha.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 04:07 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha. OK now I am NOT clicking on it.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 04:14 (twenty years ago)

I didn't even have the choice, not having suppressed my images. Gee THANKS. New thread please.

It's a just a woman with her rather thick tongue caught in a oddly shaped wall.

'Hey baby, would you like to check out my oddly shaped wall?'.

Um, that is the genuine Hitlercat then? I'm a tiny bit disappointed.

ratty, Tuesday, 24 January 2006 04:16 (twenty years ago)

Oh, can I start the new thread? I've never done one before.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 04:20 (twenty years ago)
