Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

sorry

Hey Jordan Cohen:
wanna go get drunk sometime?
god dammit I do

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Haha, YES.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Are you playing gigs
or do you have some free time?
Please advise/respond.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

I am out of town until Tuesday. Mama D1dgdown's is crashing ALL TEH BARS on State Street next week Thursday to promote the All-Stars show. Then I'm going to Erik's house for NYE, and after that I'm free forever.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

well then okay man
after new year's eve we'll bump
if I'm still "alive"

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

Great. And you're welcome to roll with us next week, if you want.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

ROAD TRIP YOU BASTARDs

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

YES. The cowbellist/dancer is a legitimate and necessary post in a brass band.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

Ooooh jealous. I might be back up in Madison in late January.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

For a gig?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Yep. We're in Mpls on Friday the 27th, so we're looking to get a show on Saturday the 28th.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

I wanna drink.

Camtron (Cameron), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

You should've come see me at Onopa Brewery on Sunday. Oh that's right, I didn't tell you about it. Also, I don't really know who you are. You're friends with Jordan, I think.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

but if you are here
in madison let us quaff
many steins of ale

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

GUYS: An inmate at a county jail in the 608 area code kept trying to call me yesterday. I refused to answer, and then eventually I acquiesced and told the dude, "Hey, I don't know you, so maybe it'd be cool if you didn't keep calling my number." He was like, "Anthony?" "No." "This ain't Anthony? For real?" I told him I was not Anthony. We went over the number, and I guess he'd written it down wrong or something. I think he appreciated that I took the time to set him straight, though. Seemed like an all right guy.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

yeah, dad is all right
he gets weird this time of year
holidays do that

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Haha. There is another girl in town with the same first and last name as Maddie, so she periodically gets calls from inmates trying to find Evil Maddie.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

Evil Maddie would've been a character on the 3rd season of Twin Peaks.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Wait, jaymc, you were at Onopa on Sunday? I was gonna go to that show. But I was working (at Fuel across the street) and it was a friends birthday.

Camtron (Cameron), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, I really hope Maddie's last name isn't Prior.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

But I was working (at Fuel across the street)

I WAS THERE FOR DINNER. I HAD SOME SORT OF VEGETARIAN SANDWICH.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

hey this ain't the chi
take your fuel and veggie subs
to another thread

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

I PROBABLY MADE IT!

No this ain't the chi. We're cooler than those kids.

But you're right. Drinks anyone?

Camtron (Cameron), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

MC: we're talking about Milwaukee. Milwaukee is in Wisconsin. Thank you.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

well how the damn hell
would i know that, i am all
608 FOR LIFE

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I remember a bunch of people that looked like a band came in. You were one of those people weren't you.

Camtron (Cameron), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

Maybe? There were six of us -- or actually seven, counting Elizabeth's bf. Five of us sat at a table close to the counter, the other two sat by the window.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Yup, that was you. I took all your orders.

I am also derailing this thread.

Camtron (Cameron), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

Look, if Matt and Jordan can't get their shit together, that's not our fault.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

dude our shit is so
together they call us the
metamucil twinz

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

EW.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

I knew Jordan was into watching shit porn, but I didn't know he was into making it.

Camtron (Cameron), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

thanks haik
lunch just came back for a rerun
fabulous

metonymus prime (rgeary), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

Goddamnit, I leave for one hour...

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

hahahahaha

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

Eh? Did I miss out on ILX0r fun at the Onopa last Sunday while I was busy being drunkenly morose about my graduation from college? ¡Ay dolor!

Are you serious about anybody being welcome, Haikunym? It would only be a three hour round trip for me to FAP in Madison-- I'd be game.

Chris F. (servoret), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

that is awesome chris
problem is that we have no
real meeting plans yet

but that's the reason
for this thread, so let's just try
(by the way: congrats!)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Chris, I'm not sure it was ILX0r fun as much as my band played a show, and Cameron made me a sandwich!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Aw, that still would have been cool-- I've yet to see any musical ILX0r do their thing on stage, and it's not like I was doing anything better last Sunday night! I think the drunken festivities ended long before show time.

Thanks, Haik! Part of the reason for the moroseness was the fact that I have no job (because I rashly quit my lame part-time gig right before graduation) and lame job prospects (partly because I ended up with a useless liberal arts degree from a third-tier school, and partly because I have a cretinously bad work history and no real skills). Thus, I've got loads of time to kill in between writing/jobbing around my resumé and catching up on my DVD watching (I think I've managed to watch six already in the last two days, and I'm watching number seven before I go to bed tonight). It should be pretty easy to fit a road trip into my schedule (too bad the weather is ungood though-- it would be nicer if I could make a day of it and go to the arboretum or something. If only the retro arcade guy hadn't gone out of business...), so I'm up for pretty much anything.

Oh yeah, and let me just register my shock and amazement in finding out that I'm not the only Milwaukee-based ILX0r, and that I haven't been for as long as I've been posting (if not lurking) here!

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:06 (twenty years ago)

i've been to madison before.
it's not really on the way to anything.
i reckon that's why more people don't stop by.
that goes double for milwaukee.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:18 (twenty years ago)

rrr fuck i'm waiting for the SAD to kick in. it usually really gets going around march, when the days are a bit longer but winter just haaangs on.

geoff (gcannon), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

not that i'm in wisconsin but same latitude innit

geoff (gcannon), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

geoff, you are awesome!

chris f: there's also a gal named kirsten who's in milwaukee who posted very occasionally -- although she hasn't been around for awhile.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 December 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

I must sheepishly
Admit that I visited
Madison last year

A conference in
2004 brought me to
That place and its lake

But Matt, I didn't
Really know you then. The city
Was lovely, I must say

I have thought about
Applying for a job at
UW though

Another visit
Would result in much drinking
And Brewer discourse

Afterward, I will
Tell Yiddish folk tales to your
Unsuspecting kids

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Friday, 23 December 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

Oh, shit-- I forgot all about "tell me about milwaukee"! Milwaukee FAP never happened, I take it? Ha, I forgot that that Juiceboxxx guy used to post on ILM, too.

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 23 December 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

aw barry you suck
but you are of course awesome
but you're still teh suck

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Ha, I forgot that that Juiceboxxx guy used to post on ILM, too.

Really??

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

???
Yeah, really. Never saw his act, kinda forgot about him altogether.

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

I just know about him because blogger/gadfly Jessica Hopper talks about him all the time.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 December 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Hmm. If I were more connected to the Riverwest/Bayview youth scene I'd probably have seen him long ago, but working most evenings and weekends really put a crimp in my extracurricular outings. I guess he still does a show a week in somebody's apartment? Also, I was never really that motivated to go check him out-- I don't know if anti-ironically bad hip-hop is really my thing.

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 23 December 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, Kirsten came out when my band played at Locust Street Days one year, she was very nice. Btw Chris (and Cam), we're probably going to crash the Nomad this Friday after a wedding gig in MKE.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 24 December 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

yeah, I liked Kirstin.
I am not in Madison
now but was on turkey day

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Saturday, 24 December 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

So, in my own way I have defied the Wisconsin Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Instead of drinking (but there's always that option), I am in Portland, OR visiting my mother.

It's 50 degrees, and it feels like heaven.

Camtron (Cameron), Sunday, 25 December 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

I like Wisconsin. I need to visit Milwaukee again/more.

n/a (Nick A.), Sunday, 25 December 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

The 30th, Jordan? Cool-- I should be able to make it down.

This'll actually be the first year in a while that I haven't escaped the weather post-Christmas by going on vacation. I missed my chance to go to San Francisco, so I'll be lazing around catching up on my media consumption and, hopefully, hitting up temp agencies during the next week instead.

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 25 December 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, is Friday FAP likely to happen? How late does your gig run?

Chris F. (servoret), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Cam, it's been in the mid-40s here all week!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

"Here" being Chicago, but I can't imagine it's that much colder in Milwaukee.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

I actually use one of those lamps. It's apparently only the brightness that matters (10,000 lumens or greater) not whether it's full-spectrum or not.

I've been told you can make one -- all you need is a few intense fluorescent bulbs, what to plug them into, a u.v. screen and some sort of wood box or something to hold the whole thing.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

I haven't seen daylight for two days now. I began to feel disoriented a few hours ago. BRING ON THE LIGHT.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Chris, I think so. I'll know for sure tomorrow night. Speaking of, Matt, we're meeting at the Dane at 8:00 tomorrow!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 29 December 2005 00:00 (twenty years ago)

Bump.

I'll probably be drinking down on the East Side tomorrow night anyway, so it should be easy for me to make it down to the Nomad at whatever point.

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 30 December 2005 06:00 (twenty years ago)

aw crap jordan dude
sorry i didn't make it
(we ate at lulu's)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 30 December 2005 06:30 (twenty years ago)

That's okay. We hit like eight bars tonight and ended up at the Weary Traveler. I'm wasted.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 07:22 (twenty years ago)

I was just at Mickey's a few days ago.

Do you Madison brass guys play any child-friendly gigs? My little niece has wanted a trombone for Christmas for two years running.

Pete Scholtes (Pete Scholtes), Friday, 30 December 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

You should get her one! Our sax player's kid loooves the trombone, and he can actually play it now. I think he's 5 or 6.

I don't know what's coming up, but we did a gig at a children's hospital over the summer:

http://www.madolan.com/engagement/goodandevil.jpg

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Btw, Nomad is definitely happening tonight, but not until later on, like 11:30 - midnight.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Nomad was fun! Maybe we could actually do Madison FAP sometime w/Begs/haikunym?

Chris F. (servoret), Saturday, 31 December 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, deafening silence. But I enjoyed meeting you guys, however briefly and drunkenly. Anyway, Cameron, I looked for you at Onopa for a bit when I stumbled in during the Rusty P's set. What's up with this kegger you invited me to? Do you want to e-mail me with time/location? E-mail address at bottom is real.

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 1 January 2006 10:36 (twenty years ago)

oh hey chris and all
didn't see this yesterday
(i'm slothful at home)

it would be real fun
to do a madison FAP
let's all keep in touch

Haikunym (Haikunym), Sunday, 1 January 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Well, thank fuck. Kegger wouldn't have worked out anyway-- I have crypto. Staying at home drinking very bad wine and watching bad Italian movies instead. (NB: It's not actually crypto, the wine is almost undrinkable, and said "bad" Italian movies are Suspiria and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.)

Chris F. (servoret), Saturday, 14 January 2006 05:46 (twenty years ago)

Yo Madison dudes. C4n4st4 is playing a show at the Annex a week from Friday (June 30). We're opening for Devotchka. It'll be a little weird: our usual pianist can't make it, so someone's gonna fill in for her. But I think it'll turn out well!

WILLIAM HUBBS REHNQUIST was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 1, 1924. He grew up in the suburb of Shorewood, the son of a paper salesman. Rehnquist's strongly conservative views can be traced directly to his childhood. According to a Washington Post report, the political heroes in the Rehnquist household were "Republican standard bearers such as Alf Landon, Wendell Willkie and Herbert Hoover." When Rehnquist was asked (during the Democratic administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt) by his elementary teacher about his career plans, he replied, "I'm going to change the government."

Thanks a ton, Wisconsin. I'll take Keillor.

I live in Wisconsin
I work in a lumber mill there.
All the people I meet
when I walk down the street
say "Hello, what's your name?" and I say:

An increasingly frenetic snow is covering our whole world.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 10 November 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

Yah, except it's not poetic, it blows. I have to drive to Waukesha and then Milwaukee tonight.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 November 2006 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, it's ugly stuff. but at least you'll be on the interstate where they'll keep it nice and clean. go slow brother.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 10 November 2006 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

I wrote a song "for" Wisconsin today though I'm afraid it has little to do "with" Wisconsin. I am doing one song for each of the 12 Midwestern states as my "concept" for NaSoAlMo, and Wisconsin is the second to last song to be written.

Now I just have to come up with something for Iowa.

Where are you located?

frogbs, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 02:48 (thirteen years ago)

Madison. You?

@GracieLoPan #fyi (Display Name (this cannot be changed):), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 02:50 (thirteen years ago)

sheboygan...we got slammed pretty f hard with about 17 inches last week...coming home from work was brutal, did about 15 mph on I-43 and nearly threw my car down a cliff when I couldn't see any road whatsoever on my exit. this is getting ridiculous, I can't recall it ever snowing this much in a span of 2-3 weeks

frogbs, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 04:41 (thirteen years ago)

Great Blizzard of 1888:

Aimless, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 05:06 (thirteen years ago)

Only 50 inches of snow so far this winter in Madison, above normal but not crazily so, but it FEELS worse -- instead of a couple of giant bilzzards it's just been like, fuck, every time you get the sidewalk clear here comes another 4 inches. It stinks.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 05:17 (thirteen years ago)

It's because we had it so easy in November and December. We got spoiled, and now we're paying for it. (NB: I don't really believe this.)

@GracieLoPan #fyi (Display Name (this cannot be changed):), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 05:45 (thirteen years ago)

well last winter was ridiculously easy so I kind of figured we'd be in for it next year. I totally get it with the shoveling, a lot of my buddies have just kinda given up on keeping their sidewalks real clean by now

anyway - nothing yet which is nice. supposedly we're going to be on the low side of "0-8"

frogbs, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

today wasn't as bad as i expected, i did spent about 1.5 hours getting my gf to work and then going to my job though

queeple qua queeple (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

btw would a mod mind taking my real name out of the first two posts in this thread?

queeple qua queeple (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 22:02 (thirteen years ago)

where are you?

frogbs, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 22:02 (thirteen years ago)

madison also

queeple qua queeple (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 22:25 (thirteen years ago)

This storm didn't turn out as bad as I feared, though part of my feeling results from Good Guy Neighbor With a Snowblower clearing the entire sidewalk in front of my house while I was at work.
