Given that Kate said it was someone else's turn to start one...

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:47 (nineteen years ago)

If the weather's nice, I think I'll go and have my lunch on the beach!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

The weather is nice. OH NO I'M IN SLOUGH!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

Oi! I meant a new thread about the BAND!!! Oh well, that one was getting over 1000 posts long, so oh well.

Pash, when you see this, please can you work the same bit of magic that you did on the last one? Thanks!

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

(resists the urge to make "number 9... number 9..." jokes.)

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I didn't know what you meant. Me thick.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

Sigh. It doesn't matter. People only seem to post on the Watercooler thread when I'm not around. "Is she gone? Is she gone?"

::people flood into the cooler and buy up all of Kate's lovely books that she has been accumulating so preciously all over her desk::

Oh hang on, wait, wrong thread.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

Hi all.

I'm ever more envious of emsk and ed and their jaunt. That bridge looks amazing.

It is sunny outside here in Oxford, but there's nowhere for me to go really. I could wander down to cowley centre I guess, get out of the office, see what's about.

How's preperations for your PARTY going kate - do you still want treacle puddings?

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

Party, oh god, I forgot I was having a party. Damn, I should ask if Amy if it's OK to make a giant treacle pudding in her space.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

(I nearly typed "area" by mistake and almost killed myself giggling.)

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

I've never made a GIANT treacle pudding before - is a normal sized treacle pudding gonna be okay? Everyone can have a LITTLE bit . . .

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

You could have nearly typed "bum" and we all could have.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

Damn, I suppose if it has to be a normal sized treacle pudding... I can eat it out of a GIANT plate. Or maybe a LITTLE TINY plate and then I can still feel like Alice in Wonderland.

Dammit! I quite forgot to put on the invitations that it is supposed to be an ALICE IN WONDERLAND theme.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:27 (nineteen years ago)

(our Alice will be in Newcastle, probably)

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think they actually built the bridge, it looks quite worn-in in the photos (and there's a marked shortage of half-built bridges as well).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

The weather is nice. OH NO I'M IN SLOUGH!

"OH NO I'M IN SLOUGH" would shurely shuffice?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

OH NO I'M IN WEST SLOUGH

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

Bah, I get to the beach and it starts raining. At least I have a passport application now.

(but don't get me started on: self-hatred because I daren't go into shops where people I slightly know and kind of like might be working)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

I like beaches when it is raining. The sky, the sea, the overwhelming blue-greyness of it all...

Anyway, here is something to cheer you up, FP: think of the photos of David Tennant in the fashion section of this weekend's Guardian.

Also OH GOD YES, I ALMOST FORGOT!!!! Apologies to everyone in the A section of my phone (Anna, Archel) because it went mental and decided to randomly call or text all of you. It seems to have stopped happening, so I don't think it was a virus. Possibly my ass suddenly developped the urge for a social life of its own.

And, for no apparent reason, here is a photo of Dylan Moran, with the exact colour I am going to be painting mine house:

http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/images/2005/4/6/1ae.DylanMor.picA.jpg

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh. Is that like my old room in Gray's Inn or a bit darker?

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

Darker. It is called Morroccan Velvet (I think? Or did I decide on Garnet Symphony! Or did I just like the name of that better? I am confused.) and it is lovely.

God, his nose is pointed. Errrmm... wow.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

think of the photos of David Tennant in the fashion section of this weekend's Guardian.

Mmmm! Surely they must have convinced everybody else of his cuteness?

I don't mind rainy beaches if I'm wrapped up warm. Today I'm not, so I retreated back to the office.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

I think they dressed David Tennant in all the right stuff but in all the wrong colours.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know. Something about those photos bothered me. He's someone I *should* find attractive, but I don't, really. He's got lovely eyes. But there's something just about... disturbing about the lower end of his face. I don't know if he has a weak chin, or a cruel mouth, but he doesn't do it for me. I'm sorry.

They were lovely photos, though. Maybe if they'd been in profile, and I could have assessed the pointiness of his nose?

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

I think you'll generally be pleased by its pointiness, even if he's no Dylan Moran.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - The word you're looking for is rat-faced, I think.

Dylan's expression suggest he's searching for the half-naggin he hid in his hair for emergency situations.

I meant to ask about that perfect blank text.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Kate. I don't think my phone is advanced enough to catch viruses anyway, it runs off clockwork or something.

I blow hot and cold on David Tennant OO-ER no srsly sometimes I think he is very very hott esp in nice wide tweedy trousers but I agree there is something slightly wrong in his lower face. Is it just... too small?

I seem to be mainly arsing around on OkCupid today, for no real reason.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

Dammit, I cannot find a profile shot. Though I did find this, phwoar, etc.

http://www.pottermania.jp/Photos/CastsCrews/DT/DavidTennant3.jpg

I don't think many people on earth have noses as pointy as Dylan Moran. Except maybe Jared Harris. Is there a secret corner of Ireland where the boys sit and sharpen their noses?

x-posts bah

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

Alice in Wonderland party?

I need to dress up . . . AS A DOORMOUSE? Where am I gonna get a doormouse costume?

Mind you, the last Jungle themed party was about as un jungle-themed as it's possible to be. Except for the vines, which were very good.

I don't think they actually built the bridge

I never said they did - I just said it looks brilliant!

That colour is a GOOD colour for your room. I'd be scared of all the angry colours personally, but it will look impressive and homely at the same time!

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Previous incarnations of us built that bridge and it may have to be rebuilt in the near future.

Arrgh, I am being sucked into a balkanised thread, I must resist and become the Marshal Tito of ILX forge a new Yugoslav republic from these warring parts, with blood sweat and partisan activity.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha ha, no you won't, you will be a tinpot dictator of your private lump of ILX soil like me the rest of us!

It will be a very loose interpretation party, JB. It does not necessarily have to be a costume party, but one should be Alice in Wonderland themed in some way.

I wonder if there will be a mad Irishman to help me chop wood. Can I have Dylan Moran, please? Though I don't imagine he would be very good at it; too weedy.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

How about a Tommy Tiernan instead?

http://www.waterfront.co.uk/images/TommyTiernanBarkweb.JPG

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

He's sharpening his nose!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

Who on earth is he? He has brought his own firewood, though!

God, stop tormenting me with these pointy noses!

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

He's a mad Irish comedian, as requested, with bonus pointy nose.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

If there's one thing I hate more than "mad" Australian comedians it's "mad" Irish comedians

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

He's not "mad" as such, but he is funny (though the last time I watched him was during a bout of hotel room stop-looking-at-the-mini-bar boredom on a work trip - when anything would have cheered me up).

He beat Peter Kaye to the Perrier Award a few years back then went on to not make millions.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

I hate comedians, fullstop. I'm just a sucker for the pointed noses.

However! My request wasn't for a mad Irish *comedian* - it was just for a random pointy-nosed Irish boy to help me chop wood. Never mind.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Now you are just torturing me. Argh, the pointiness.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:54 (nineteen years ago)

Errrr... maybe the Shimuras should try Ireland instead of Glasgow!

(Except we would have to tie Anna to the tourbus to keep Irish boys from running off with her.)

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

Errr... is he wearing long johns or something under his jeans, or are his legs really that colour?

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

We are a pale race. It seems about the same colour as his wrist, say (though it might be reflecting some of the blue of the jeans).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't think anyone could be paler than the Scots! But that leg isn't just white, it's slightly blueish.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, real question: When *IS* Lent over?

(Yeah, I know I've not been totally religious about the not drinking thing, but I've been better than usual. And besides, yeah - SUNDAYS. Which is why my birthday party is on a Sunday.)

Is it over on Palm Sunday? (I don't think so, that's just wishful thinking) Or Good Friday? Or Easter Sunday? Where does Holy Saturday fall - is it Lent, or is it just limbo?

I would ask my mum, but she gets confused when I start asking too many religious questions and starts sending me nutty links.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Easter Sunday

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

It is Easter Sunday, according to my memories of going to Mass and then back home to eat all the chocolate ever. Possibly Saturday if you go to Vigil Mass (if you have those over there) and you really really want to finish early.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

What do you know? You're an atheist!

x-post, OK, Andrew I trust. So if I've been to midnight mass on Holy Saturday I can drink immediately afterwards?

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

Recommend drinking before, during and after Mass (if it's good enough for the priest, it's good enough for his flock)

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

Scots/ Irish - it's a' wan

As you all surely know, the Scots lived in Ireland until the Dalriadic migration. Before the Celtic revival, though, your average cultured Edinburgh or Glasgow Scot would have balked at the idea that this was the case - to them, the modern Scots were a civilised Germanic people like the English, and nothing to do with the stupid, dirty, Gaelic-speaking Irishmen who lived in the Scottish Highlands.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

I can't receive communion! I haven't been shriven in ... errr... decades!

Anyway, before we start arguing about Scots vs. Picts vs. Celts: FITE!!! here is a lovely portrait of the sea captain whose memoirs I am considering purchasing:

http://www.gochile.cl/html/ChileValdivia/Valdivia-Lord-Cochrane_lg.jpg

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

I once found a delightful book - well, rant - from the 1920s, about how the Scots weren't really descended from those nasty Catholic Irish at all, but from the Picts, who were really all Prods at heart.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

Scots vs. Picts vs. Celts

The general consensus being that they were more similar than they were different - if you accept the concept of "Celts" at all

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

"Well it's a grand old team to play for..."

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, but the Picts were *Brythonic* Celts, making them good and BRITISH unlike the Goedelic Celts, who were GAELIC and therefore untrustworthy and mad.

But this isn't an argument about culture, it's an argument about linguistics, la la la la la, and isn't Dylan Moran lovely?

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

...and if that was a football reference, I'll come over there and whack you myself! You know that is verboten here!

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

x-post, OK, Andrew I trust. So if I've been to midnight mass on Holy Saturday I can drink immediately afterwards?

I have rang international religious advisor My Mum and she says yes.

Lord Cochrane to be played by David Tennant if we can convince him to wear flares.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

But were they Brythonic? (xxpost)

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

That's a nice can of worms you've got there. Here, have a tin-opener.

One archaeologist and author, Simon James, wrote a book saying truthfully that a prehistoric Irishman or Scotsman would never have thought of themselves as a "Celt", and would have been highly unlikely to think of the whole of western Europe as a single Celtic people. As a result, he got letters accusing him of genocide.

(xxpost)

The Celticness of Pictish is still very much unknown, and is never likely to be resolved either way, given that the Picts preferred drawing squiggly symbols instead of writing stuff down.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

Tennant as Cochrane - OH YES!!! except wouldn't he have to dye his hair blond?

Anyway, the point of all this was to ascertain the date that Lent ends so that I can get a GIANT MASSIVE FUCKOFF JAR OF MOCHA JAVA LATTE CHOCHACCINO AND INJECT IT STRAIGHT INTO MY FOREHEAD.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

...and funnily enough, my mum has just sent me a link to her Church's website, so that I can listen to her sermon online. Uuuhhhh... thanks, I had enough sermons from here while growing up.

I've spent the afternoon trying to decide how easy it would be to visit my great-uncle's grave by public transport. Noone in the family has ever been there before, you see.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Hullo. Hmmm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

Where is he burried?

I don't think I've ever seen a grave of a member of my family. Oh wait, except for all the Gordons burried on a hillside near Inverness. "Ah've got moooore friends up here than ah doo in the toooooown" etc.

Sigh. I wonder if I can locate the stash of chocolate I left somewhere in my desk over the weekend. ANd now I'm excited at the thought of birthday party afterparty!

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

He was in a plane which crashed somewhere over southern Germany. It was trying to drop large amounts of high explosives on Frankfurt at the time.

(why he's buried south of Munich when at his death he was attacking Frankfurt isn't really clear)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

Damn. I have a great uncle who's burried in India for similar reasons, (though he was doing a training exercise at the time, not actually dropping bombs on anyone) but I've never been to his grave, either.

Anyway, I'm just getting typically depressed by the Dylan Moran thread now. There's a certain type of thread that starts going a certain way when certain people get on it... and argh. I wouldn't say "misogyny" but it's a certain kind of male bitterness that makes me very uncomfortable.

It's my birthday party. And I'm getting the fear because I'm sure I've forgotten to invite all sorts of people who will then be mad at me - because I didn't have or couldn't find their email addresses in my address book. :-(

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.showbizireland.com/images/stars/actors-moran08.jpg

Now I feel much better.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

I did wonder if it would be possible for me to get there, assuming I'd be invited if I could.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

Why would you need to be invited to a gravesite?

Anyway, remember how I was complaining that I didn't have any crushes? I think I've got one now. Phew!

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

I can't stop staring at the texture of his tweed. It's a bit darker and... oranger than my tweed. Is it terrible to have sexual fantasies imagining the sensation of tweed on tweed?

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

No, I meant your birthday party that time.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, duh! Sorry! I am stupid. I shall send one... which address should I use? Does this ILX one work?

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Woah, my fourth highest local match on OKCupid is... Matt DC! Heehee.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't know Matt DC lived in Brighton...

(Sorry, I keep clicking back on the thread to look at that picture.)

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

Local within 50 miles...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

i'm no asking the russian ANYTHING.

ned are you ok? why is everyone massaging your head?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

Why not? The Russian was very helpful the last time I asked her a question!

OK, the question was "Can we start a FIRE now?" but still!

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

ned are you ok? why is everyone massaging your head?

I'm perfectly fine! I am being given uninvited headrubs! I'm not minding per se but I am curious.

Otherwise it's just a busy week at work. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Does this ILX one work?

Yes, it does!

I *might* come, but I'm still not sure. I'll email you about it.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

Woah, my fourth highest local match on OKCupid is... Matt DC!

At one point, my highest match within 250 miles was... Kate!

(it isn't any more, though)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

I thought I deleted my OKCupid profile. Which may be why it doesn't turn up any more!

I've forwarded it to you, Forest - let me know what you think.

Dammit, why can't I have wallpaper on this machine? It's so not fair. Blokey sat next to me has stupid footie wallpaper, why can't I have Dylan Moran? I suppose I could just open up a picture in Viewer and then leave it lurking somewhere on one of my screens so I stumble across him every now and then... hrmmm. Actually that's a very good idea.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

For no reason other than I can, I'm going to post a photo of Gene Tierney to this thread

http://alabasterbrow.blogsome.com/images/gene7.jpg

Nadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

Except clearly, you CAN'T. Big red X. Bwah hah hah hah!

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Which didn't work! Ha ha, poor Gene, that's the story of her life!

Nadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Ah well. Here is some more gratuitous Dylan Moran instead:

http://www.standupworld.com/su_images/dylan_moran.jpg

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

The big question about coming down, Kate, is finding somewhere to park the car. I might be able to leave it at my friends W and P's house - and they'd be within walking distance of the party; they live near Victoria Park.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

Bah!!!! I can't get the one Gene Tierney photo I wanted to post to post! I suppose it's in Dylan Moran's favour that at least he's still alive.

Nadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, FP, car-parking in London really is one of those things I know *nothing* about! Could find you a place to stay, no problem, but car? Not the foggiest.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

Bah, I've just checked to see if GNER has any cheap tickets left for Sunday. And they don't.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

Ohmigod, this one is really worrying, in that he looks almost exactly like my friend, Mr. Nite:

http://www.dylanmoranrules.com/gallery_blackbooks/BB7_jpg.jpg

GNER has cheap tickets? I thought that was why we were going by Hull Trains!

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

The cheapest GNER tickets are just about cheaper than going by car, for one person (with a small car). They work out at about the same price as a HT ticket, when you add on the extra ticket I'd have to buy to get to somewhere that HT serve.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

(is that what we're definitely doing for the York trip then?)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Just a few more, I promise, then I will stop. Honest.

Now normally, I find it physically impossible to fancy men who smoke. But in this case, I am willing to make an exception:

http://www.dylanmoranrules.com/gallery_blackbooks/BB4_jpg.jpg

Also, errrr... blimey, are those green eyes? Rimbaud once wrote that every green eyed girl is promised a green eyed boy, by the moon. I'm still waiting...

http://www.dylanmoranrules.com/gallery_tv/tv23_jpg.jpg

Now no more. At least for tonight. Damn, why did I come off the SSRI's. Suddenly I have a libido again, and it's annoying.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

x-post, oh! Terribly sorry. I was distracted.

I don't actually know what we're doing about York. We should sort this out. Ed? Is Ed still around?

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

The last suggestion we had was that you lot - assuming there's only 4 of you at most - would get the first Hull Trains service of the day as far as Selby, and I'd pick you up from there.

(or you could go all the way to Hull, but it would be a bit of a big detour)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

Ed is here, I'd rather go all the way by GNER, but I have money and I am willing to defer to others. Let me look at ticket prices.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, yes, it's all coming back to me now. I think the problem is getting London people to commit to actually going now that it comes down to buying tickets. Sigh.

Sorry, I'm finding it very hard to concentrate on anything with those photos up there. x-post

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

decamp to british steam power?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, there are no pictures of DyMo to distract me there, and I am getting quite distracted.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Apart from it being a direct 2hr journey, you have a lot more flexibility with GNER - a train every half hour, rather than one usable train in each direction.

(xpost - that's probably sensible)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Bah, for *this* weekend, my friends W and P - whose house I could probably have parked the car at - are going to Madrid for the weekend.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

Surely you could still park there, even if they're still away?

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

Nah, it would be a bit creepyweird of me.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

park car on outskirts, travel in by public transport? sorry, i have no idea. my bro and his mate were gonna do that the other week but then they came on the train instead.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

I'd be a bit nervous leaving the car overnight in a station car park, I think.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

You could use one of the secure ones like Luton airport parkway

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, that might be a plan.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Today, the plan is to nip out at lunch time and pop down the post office near the seafront, to get myself some photos for my passport application.

I’d like to tell my manager that everything’s fine, but I’ve just been waiting for over an hour for a tram and my feet are freezing.

Gonna be moody all day now.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

Morning. I got here early and found the Finn had her stuff all over my desk! Argh! What do you *mean* I'm that predictably late that I screw up people's plans if I get here on time? Grrrrrrr. Stupid sunshine for waking me up.

Believe it or not, I'm actually in a good mood today. I've no idea what caused it, but if I find out, I shall take steps to ensure it does not happen again.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

I'm also in a good mood - I've no idea how that happened. Actually I do - I went to bed at a sensible time instead of staying up and playing Medal of Honour, and had hot chocolate before I go to bed, which ALWAYS makes me sleep nicely.

The day is SO nice. I want to open the blinds and let the sunshien in, but the monitors won't let me since the glare makes it impossible to work. Stupid work . . .

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

I went to bed early last night, too. Perhaps that is it. I was going to stay up and read my biography of Nelson but bed was so comfortable and the candles were so nice... (I did fortunately remember to blow them out before going to sleep.)

Also, it is definitely spring. Boys are getting cuter, which can only be caused by hormonal fluctuations.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:27 (nineteen years ago)

I went to bed late and drunk last night. In fact, that's a lie. I slept on the couch drunk last night. Now I am on day off, and am going to the pub later. Hurrah!

It is grey and nasty outside here. Boo!

Sorry, Goodwin. Seems like you are alone in your foul mood. What can we do to cheer you up. How about a cookie?

Pink 12-string... mmmmmmmmm!

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

It's very nice! but the pickups (cheap mini-humbuckers) are shit. Probably going to fit either a pair of proper covered humbuckers or a pair of p90s. I know almost 0 about pickups, so I'm taking it in to get advice from guitar shop guy.

That's a good start, what sort are they?

Morning, morning. How's tricks?

Disaster has struck today as I have just arrived at work to find I have somewhat accidentally left a massive bar of chocolate on my desk, in full view of the warm sun. It is recovering in a darked room now.

I also left some sausage rolls out in the sun too. Do you think it would be a mistake to eat them?

Ha ha, my boss just came over all stressed and in a bad mood because I have too many things I have to be doing. And it was so strange for me to be in a good mood, and all happy and "nah, that's alright. If it doesn't get done... screw it! It doesn't get done!" I told her that anger management had worked wonders. (Also it is the thought of the upcoming holiday.)

Also, JB, I have asked if you can make a treacle pudding in Amy's kitchen, otherwise you may have to make it as Emsk's and run it over in a flaming wheelbarrow.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

Hi again. Boss is giving me jip about a report that's not in yet. I've said to him "Look, if the guys had said the sample report was in the wrong format in the first place, I could have fixed this weeks ago and we wouldn't have been behind schedule. As it is, they didn't, so don't start!" This tirade doesn't seem to have any effect whatsoever - sigh. It's a good job I'm in a good mood today, otherwise I'd have gone batty by now.

Kate, it's your birthday, where do YOU want your pudding, at the party or at the afterparty? Either is good - although transportation of the creation will be a problem, flaming wheelbarrow or no.

Yay for the babybump!

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

We can't make the pudding at the party, as there isn't the space. So we may as well save it for the afterparty. Even if that means we must dispense with the flaming wheelbarrow.

But no! I refuse to be in a bad mood. I'm feeling too cheerful. And I'm wearing pink paisley socks. Everything is just funny today. It is the power of the pink paisley, I am sure of it. :-)

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I WAS in quite a good mood despite my sleep being totally fucked up at the moment. But the afternoon lethargy has now hit me hard.

OKCupid has now highly matched me with, to my knowledge, FOUR London ilxors (one of whom I don't know but have seen at FAPS). And one of Kate's previous matches IIRC. I know I'm married and everything but cor it's quite addictive isn't?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

See, now I'm convinced that everyone on OKC is secretly married. Which of my matches were you matched with?

It was addictive for a short while, but then the novelty wore off. Like erm... boys as a whole, actually! Hah.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Your search - flaming treacle - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

* Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
* Try different keywords.
* Try more general keywords.
* Try fewer keywords.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

Sticking your tongue out at someone != sending hate vibes.

Twas stupid work crap that brung me down, and the paisley socks could not protect me.

I wrote a form for briefing me on projects - and then my manager got hold of it, and ripped it to shreds and made it so confusing even *I* didn't understand what it was on about, so I can't imagine how the users felt. But now I have sat down with a user, and I have got a better sense of how they use it, so I can translate better what they want into what I need. Or, erms, something.

And whta do you mean, no flaming treacle? Oh wait, I searched for just flaming pudding.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Thursday, 6 April 2006 07:32 (nineteen years ago)

Errr... whatever. Anyway. If this continues, I'll ask for some moderator action. But in the meanwhile...

I have a hangover this morning. :-)

I'm in such a Bad Mood this morning I'm atually enjoying being in a Bad Mood.

Should I pay an extra £100 to get an extra 40cm of sofa so that I can sprawl my full length without putting my feet on the arms?

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

if you have the money, and it'll fit in your living room, why not?

You're actually *enjoying* a hangover???

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:12 (nineteen years ago)

No, I'm enjoying being in a Bad Mood. I'm enjoying anything that makes me feel entitled to let fly strings of obscentities under my breath. I called the stupid woman on the train who stood in front of the door without pressing the open button "FLAMING CUNTYBOLLOCK SHOWER OF SHITE!!!" which was actually quite, erm... satisfying.

>:-)

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

Also, last night I read about Young Nelson vs. Polar Bear: FITE! which was quite good.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

Once again i'd like to tell my manager i'm fine but i've just got in work and i look and smell like a drunken hobo.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

mmm, drunken hobos.

WTF? A new person has come to fix the coffee machine and IT IS A GURL!!! I like this new development. Even though I've still not started drinking coffee again.

Still on the methadone, I mean green tea. Bah.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

ha. yes. attention Dr Anthony Gould, it is customary for people entering tube carriages to not just stop as soon as they board so that the person behind them (ie me) doesn't get chomped by the closing doors. in your defence you did look as though you'd been awake for 3 days but still.

i have 5.90 on my oyster card having put £20 on it in january. i don't use the tube much. journeys like last night's make me thankful that my commute is (literally) a walk in the park. (coming back was much better).

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

No, this woman didn't even do that - the train pulled up, and she cut in front of me to just STAND in front of the doors, gawping at them, like they were just going to open themselves. So I pushed in front of her, swearing under my breath, and opened the sodding doors.

Oh, and BTW, who the FUCK are First Capital Connect and why are they claiming to be running my trains when they CLEARLY still say Thameslink on the side of them? It walks like a Thameslink, it quacks like a Thameslink, (it is also LATE like a Thameslink) ERGO, IT IS A THAMESLINK.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

First Capital Connect is a rubbish name, as I think I've said before.

(If I ran it, I'd just call it Widened Lines - it tells you where it goes, and that's what you need!)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:56 (nineteen years ago)

> like they were just going to open themselves

on a lot of the tube systems they do just this. in fact i laugh at the noobs who press the pointless placebo buttons on central line carriages.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

Well, this train is so clearly not a tube - for a start, it's not underground, for a second, IT IS NOT ON THE TUBE MAP.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

The Blackfriars-KXSP bit used to be - has it been removed now?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

(yes, to answer my own question)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

This was in bloody Streatham. God, even when I had just moved down from Bloomsbury and hadn't been on a train or tube in two years, I knew that you had to press them to get them to open!

I wouldn't have been so annoyed had she actually stood back and let me open the door in the first place - it was her cutting in front of me that wound me up.

Anyway, WHY DO I EVER CARE?!?!/ I don't. I'm just relishing being in a bad mood about it. Anything which reinforces my fundamental view of the world's inherent shiteness and people's inherent general stupidity and ignorance makes me HAPPY AS A GOTH IN A MORTUARY.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

This *might* cheer you up (if you didn't already hear it). Interview with Boris on Sara Cox last weekend (including hilarious Arctic Monkeys impression):

Damn, I can't listen to that at work, but I love when he starts dissing on the indiepop bands. It's hillarious. Does he do his James Cunt impression as well?

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

God, he's beautiful. I just want to bear his Tory babies and have him beat me with hot wheels tracks sorry, riding crops.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

Now please cease and desist because I am grinning like a FULE now, and it is impossible for me to continue my Bad Mood, which I was enjoying.

TISSP! whatever happened to that Cambridge gig we were all supposed to be playing together?

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

Oh and since i'm talking to myself here, then no one will mind if there are photos of Alex James, too:

Stupid Flash, crashing my machine:

http://www.channel4.com/music/features/W/wigwam2_1.html

I bought the WigWam single yesterday and still haven't made up my mind what I think of it. Also bought Secret Machines, who totally freaked me out by shooting the inside cover photo ON A ROOF OF MY OLD NEIGHBOURHOOD. It's driving me crazy trying to figure out where it is, because I should be able to see my old flat, as the view is almost identical to the view from my old flat. I suspect they're on top of PS1, though, which would mean that the angle was too close to see my actual former flat. I'll ask the girl who still lives there if she can figure it out.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

Bah, I still haven't heard the WigWam single.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 6 April 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

Omigod, I forgot that Alexander the James presented that programme about Soho that was on... oh, a few years ago. So he could go on the Hott Presenters thread as well.

I couldn't make it through the whole remix disc. It was almost too... ghey.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't like the WigWam single too much (may be a grower?) but the video is furry very fun.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

I've still not seen the video. :-(

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

TISSP! whatever happened to that Cambridge gig we were all supposed to be playing together?

What? Is that my name I hear?

Oh, it will happen. Eventually.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

I just had a bunch of green tea spam land in my inbox!! WTF?!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

seriously weirded out by this.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

Nothing to do with me, Pash!

(Though I tend to get Scient0l0g1$t spam addressed to me, personally.)

I'm feeling a bit depressed by that "oh no childless 30 something women, oh no!" thread. It's bad enough to get that kind of pressure/shit from my friends/family/societyasawhole without having to get into it on ILX, too. :-(

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Birthdays are rubbish for this kind of thing. :-(

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

I was wondering if some super-advanced spambot had been unleashed, that scanned threads for subjects, and emailed spam to the participants in that thread?

I've never had Co$ spam, though I used to get a lot of fr33m4s0n spam a couple of years ago.

Any media/society related stuff to do w/sex/relationships/fertility is super-annoying. Why do people always try to force everyone into one box?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

We should be thinkin' OUTSIDE THE BOX.

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 6 April 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not trying to shove everything into one box. I'm just trying to articulate something that has been bothering me without turning into a total cliche.

Like I said, it's probably the birthday thing. It's just the whole "ohmigod, another year older and deeper in debt..." thing. But then again, I look at this birthday compared to the last one, and I've got:

1. good job, really good, well paid job that I (mostly) like
2. bought own flat
3. Have kick-ass band

When last year I was languishing in (and about to be sacked from) a job I couldn't stand, between living paycheck to paycheck as a freelancer, living in shit rented accomadation, and didn't really have much of a creative outlet.

But it's annoying feeling like a failure because YOU HAVE FAILED TO PRODUCE BABIES - and yeah, I know some of that pressure is internal, but some of it isn't.

Anyway, enough with the Emo. I'm contemplating some peppermint tea now. I wonder if you'll get Freemason Spam about peppermint now?

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

My headache is back, too. Maybe I should have green tea instead.

Treacle in a Flaming Wheelbarrow (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

I wasn't accusing you of shoving everything in one box, Kate!

It's just whenever I read stuff about relationships, parenthood and so on, esp in the paper, the writers always try to universalise their own experience - "I don't enjoy being in a long term relationship, therefore everyone that is in a long term relationship must be unhappy" or "I have found parenthood fulfilling and it makes me happy, so therefore anyone who has not had childern must be unhappy about it" and so on and so on. It really, really, really annoys me.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

My colleague has just had one of those double espresso shot thingeys from Starfucks. GOD I WANT TO GET ONE AND INJECT IT INTO MY EYEBALL!!!

Why am I craving coffee today?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

I cannot BELIEVE I have just had to explain to someone in marketing how to save an excel file as a csv file.

MONKEYS!!!! Do I look like the "I am an idiot and do not know how to operate MS Office Helpdesk" to you?

Maybe I'll just use the coffee hypodermic to stab my colleagues with instead.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Wide Ned Lines?

Pardon?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 April 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

Kate - you're craving coffee because you know the waiting period is almost over - subconsciously the coffee is practically sliding down your hot, willing throat...

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck the waiting period - I already slipped up and got drunk by accident last night. I just have more wariness of going back on coffee because it was harder to give up.

Anyway, the Financial Director went out and got cookies for all so now I'm in a giant sugar rush and incoherent with cookie anyway, mwah hah hah hah. It's just like being on drugs! Hurrah!

Oh, and I got invited to an Improv Gig tommorrow. But I've not got a beard!

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

But it is not in Southend, it is in Hackney, home of improv.

(Also, the improv gig features a friend that I quasi-fancy in a pleasant sort of way.)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

(I wish I could find that picture of the same stretch of rail with the RIVER FLEET bursting through and post it.)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Quasi-fancy? Whatever does that mean?

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know. It means that in theory I quite fancy him, as he ticks a lot of the boxes of what it is that I find attractive. But there are more pressing other reasons why I shouldn't fancy him (and/or that a relationship wouldn't actually work). But at the same time, it makes for a quasi-frisson when we hang out which is quite enjoyable on a "ooh, a boy!" level.

Even though boys are icky and horrible and smell like goats.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

(God, I wish that spring would just BE OVER already so this hormonal sap-rush or whatever it is would just go away.)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

we have improv in southend too.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

smell like goats

Ahem!

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

At least I am not truly a Wide Ned. In any sense of the term.

It does remind me of a book published back in the 1920s in the UK called Dead Ned, which had this as its epigraph:

"And since it is Ned
Who was alive and is now dead
There's no more to be said."

I'm seriously thinking that should be on my gravestone.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

Little too wordy though, no? Dead Ned on your gravestone would surely be cheaper better.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

I keep misreading mine own screen name as Bernard SUMNER's Girlfriend and it makes me laff.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Oh M., forget cheapness, this is immortality! Until civilization collapses and weevils eat all the houses and the gravestone weathers away and future alien archaeologists dig up my bones and say things like, "Note! He has the brow of a priest, and clearly participated in savage rituals."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

But Ned, you will not be around to ROFFLE over such matters!

Throw my body in a ditch and let dogs knaw on my bones - what do I care? I'll be DEAD!

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

So true, Ned, yet brevity is the soul of wit.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

But Ned, you will not be around to ROFFLE over such matters!

Bah, read Peter Beagle's A Fine and Private Place sometime.

So true, Ned, yet brevity is the soul of wit.

YSI?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

Eh? I thought it was a bit more Motel of the Mysteries.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Two great tastes etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

I hope everyone who's now my MySpace friend has also noticed my husband's GIANT ALBATROSS hoho.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

Please use the term 'YSI' in your updated version of Ozymandias, Ned.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

Is that what it is? I thought it was some kind of winged skateboard.

(Are we talking about the same photo?)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, it's in fact a statue of the Ancient Mariner in Watchet, Somerset.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

What a frustrating day. EG - pick up spanner or allen key. Phone rings, put down spanner or allen key, pick up phone. "hello can I speak to the person dealing with advertising please" no. fuck off. I'm trying to work here. put down phone, pick up spanner/allen key, reach for bicycle in work stand. phone rings. repeat w/minor variations all day.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ah! I have examined the statue in question carefully, and it is indeed an albatross (Have you a gun? Of course I have a gun, I was advised to take one if I was travelling in the country. Then give me your gun, Mr. Brocklebank and I shall SHOOT AN ALBATROSS and we shall see what fate befalls this ship!)

Argh, Pash -can't you take your phone off the hook, or would that dissuade actual customers what want to give you money?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

At this point, I'm going to have to get an answerphone, I think. It's been such a fucking nuisance. Even though I'm registered w/the TPS, 2/3 of the calls I'm getting are basically junk.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

Sigh, that does sound frustrating - though sounds like screening your calls would be a good idea.

We just had a departmental conversation where we were all talking about our dream jobs, and we have decided, to a (wo)man that we are going to quit our jobs and start a library so we can all be cantankerous librarians. :-)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

Why do I have to go to staff meetings? Why? They have nothing to do with my life or my job and I could live quite happily without watching another overinflated diva conslutant get awarded another bottle of champers, darling (OK, Boris won this month, but still). They wouldn't even KNOW what numbers were what without me, but do *I* ever get any credit for my crazy hours and my hard work?

No champagne for me.

Twats.

I shouldn't have to go to these things again. :-(

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

Bike computer posted off to you today, Barry.

x-post is attendance actually compulsory at these things?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, attendance is compulsory. :-(

We don't actually get to go to the free drinks afterwards (even if I wanted to) but we have to go to the sodding receptions. Bah.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

Woo thanks Norman! That will definitely persuade me to cycle this weekend. Do you take paypal? (I know this means extra charges, that's cool for me)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

kate (and anyone else in central london), fa quick p? i am nearly done with work and just off regent street and must be in camden for 8.30.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yes! yes, I do. Ring me when you get off work and we can get together. SO long as it's Central London and not Camden.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

yehyeh, that was what i meant. cool, i will be out in about 10 mins. shall i head towards freemason central or do you fancy the champion or angel or somewhere?

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

Speaking of Camden and Central London, why do the street signs for Neal's Yard (where Rough Trade is) claim that it is in Camden?

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

Errr... I don't know! Can you come to my office and ring me when you get here? Then we can decide where to go. (Probably Princess Louise as it's cheap.)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

because it is in the Quite Sizeable Borough Of Camden.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

yes kate i will do that. expect me soon!

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

x-post - erm... I don't know. Is it? There's a weird bit of Holborn that is actually Camden Council, but I'm not sure if it goes as far as Covent Garden. I could walk over and look for you (it's 2 minutes) but I'm supposed to meet Emsk.

UNLESS WE COULD MEET AT THE LAUNDRY PUB?!?!?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

Ack, x-post, oh well. Forget the Laundry Pub. Even though I kind of have a hankering for it now. (There's never anywhere to sit, though.)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 6 April 2006 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

because it is in the Quite Sizeable Borough Of Camden.

That seems like a sensible explanation, I suppose. Even while wondering about this, I somehow forgot to check whether adjacent streets were in Camden as well.

There's a weird bit of Holborn that is actually Camden Council, but I'm not sure if it goes as far as Covent Garden.

I think all of the old Holborn borough got swallowed by Camden, but lots of the street signs are still the old (pre-60s) Borough Of Holborn ones.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 6 April 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

So it seems. Map of Camden here. So, Kate, that means you can go drink BOTH in Central London AND in Camden with hardly any wastage of time at all hurrah!

Morning! I've just been shopping to buy Electrical Bits.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

I remember that when I lived in Bloomsbury, I was in Camden. When I lived in Clerkenwell, I was in Camden. But when I was in Hoxton, I was in *Islington* so go figure.

Argh, I dreamed about Bloomsbury last night. Very traumatic. That will teach me to fall asleep watching Black Books DVDs. On the plus side, hot sex with Dylan Moran. On the SCARY CREEPY AND TERRIFYING SIDE, we were actually living in my old flat (except for some reason a tree had fallen, dividing the living room in two so I had to go outside and climb over this trunk to get to the bedroom) and Dylan/Bernard kept expounding about rubbish soundart and kept writing nasty letters to the Arts Council and ACK! ACK! ACK!!! He had turned into my ex-boyfriend, pointy nose, unwashed hair, wild idealism and all.

I'm really disturbed now and feeling totally creeped out.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:11 (nineteen years ago)

The good thing is, we did go to the laundry pub last night, and the laundrette is still there. I feel like there are some cosmological constants in the universe...

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:23 (nineteen years ago)

Come on, people! It's the Friday before my holiday and I don't want to do any work!

My boss just told me I could start drinking at noon!

Entertain me!

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

I don't feel like doing much either, Kate. Except stare at that pic of a Christmas tree in a general's uniform. It's my favourite thing in the world.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

Christmas tree in a general's uniform?

What on earth are you on about?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, you're going on holiday? Where to?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

(I think I might go out at lunchtime and buy a travel guide to Austria)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

Why do people think that holiday = going abroad? Holiday means NOT BEING AT WORK. I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to paint my flat.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

Markelby, explain the pic.

Forest, i'm going to austria this year.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

At lunchtime, I am going to buy a SOFA. I've decided that it's worth the extra £100 to get the extra 40cm of sprawl space, even if it takes up half my flat.

I still haven't decided to what to do about THE BOOKS MAN, THE BLOODY BOOKS which are taking over my flat. I thought I'd coralled them all in boxes, but they're breeding again.

Plus, I *really* need to get some curtains up as the sun has been waking me at the ungodly hour of 6am recently which is really not on.

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

Bwah ha ha ha! OK, that is hillarious. Is that from the "paint your pets as generals" site?

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

ACtually, maybe I could start a war between the breeding books and the rampaging CDs and they could battle each other out to the death, while I build a castle out of back issues of Country Life and watch from the safety of my new sofa. (When it comes.)

This morning, I started piling the books in the window as a temporary shield against the sun (those giant architectural tomes are great for this) but they'll get ruined if there's dew again.

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yup, petsinuniform.com (or similar) - there was a thread about it a few months ago.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:09 (nineteen years ago)

I see that Dylan Moran is on Channel 4 tonight. His stand-up show recorded in Dublin. It starts at 11.40

Greig (treefell), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

Snorrrrrrrrre...

I'm going to start singing to myself if I get any more bored. And then you're ALL in trouble.

EVERY TIME I SEE YOU FALLING, I GET DOWN ON MY KNEES AND PRAY... I'M WAITING FOR THAT FINAL MOMENT, YOU SAY THE WORDS THAT I CAN'T SAY...

I want to go for pizza for lunch, but that involves a jaunt into the EEZOHAD. Do you think it would be safe if I had all my colleagues with me?

X-POST BAH THAT'S A BIT RUBBISH FOR THOSE OF US WITH NO TELLY. :-(

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

Well that particular show is available on DVD too.

Greig (treefell), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

I hate standup. It's criminally unfunny. It was hard enough buying a comedy programme DVD, I couldn't buy a standup CD. But I've just emailed my friend to get her to tape it for me, then I can watch it with the sound turned down. :-) Hurrah! Everybody wins.

So thanks for letting me know!

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I think I would feel more embarrassed and ashamed buying a standup comedy DVD than I would buying hardcore pr0nography.

I'm not sure what that says about me. Probably that I've not got a sense of humour, which we knew already. Sigh.

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:47 (nineteen years ago)

all standup is unfunny?

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think I've ever seen a funny standup. I don't know what it is. (OK,I've not seen that many live standups, and very few taped ones, because I don't really enjoy them.) But there's just something about A BLOKE standing on a stage TELLING JOKES and going OOH, LOOK AT ME, I AM TEH FUNNY which just sucks any potential humour out of the situation.

Then again, if I got it on DVD, then I could just freeze frame and *use* it as pr0nography, so I wouldn't feel so ashamed.

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

i think you're watching the wrong standup. anyone who tells jokes is bound to be pap.

also, surely, by that logic, all bands are onstage going "holy shit the music we write is amazing"? surely you can apply that to anybody that puts their art on show in any form?

and hey, it's not always BLOKEs.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Look, this is just my personal opinion. It's not that I've "not seen the right standups" - it's just that I don't have a sense of humour, and I don't find standups very funny. (Unless, of course, they are B-Jokes)

I mean, if I were totally tone deaf, I would probably hate gigs. And actually, yeah, come to think of it, nine times out of ten, I do actually prefer listening to a CD at home to going to a gig, because I am old.

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

but you can apply it to CDs too. they obviously think it's SO GREAT that people will want to buy it.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, to give an example (and this is going to be a massive spoiler for anyone who's not heard the joke yet) the funniest thing I know is the Rabbit And The Cold Coffee Joke.

The whole point of the Cold Coffee Joke is that it is not very funny. The punchline is a total and complete let down. But what *is* funny is the build up and the anticipation - the funny voices, the story, the giggling of people who have heard it before and know what's coming. And then the funniest thing of all is the look on the face of the person hearing the (very unfunny) joke for the first time, as everyone else collapses in laughter, and grow more and more amused at the person's perpexment.

That's the kind of thing I find seriously funny. Now some bloke in a bad suit and a silly haircut standing on stage, going "What's up with lightbulbs? Did you ever notice how many comedians it takes to change one?"

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

but standup isn't about telling jokes.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

unless you're jimmy carr or some cunt like that.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

WHATEVER IT IS, I DON'T FIND IT FUNNY!!

However, my friend is taping the Dylan Moran thing so I can perve over his pointy nose. Rowr.

Then again, who knows. Maybe I will watch it, and it will be the funniest thing I've ever heard and I will roll over and piss myself laughing. But somehow I doubt it, I bet it is going to be a rolling shower of shite which reaffirms my smug satisfaction in the rubness of standups and I will give up and turn the sound off halfway through. Just you watch.

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

(Of course, watch Catty forget to set the DVD recorder, and then I'll never know, waaaahhh!!!)

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

k sorry 4 discussion

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

Kit OTM. The best standups become intimiate with you as an audience - it's more like a conversation or even a flirtation than someone 50 feet away telling jokes. I can give you my spare Eddie Izzard video if you'd like to see a true genius at work - and I'm not great lover of the genre myself.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

You don't have to be sorry for the discussion, kit! It was a good one. I got to shout and swear loads, which always makes me happy. :-)

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

And then the funniest thing of all is the look on the face of the person hearing the (very unfunny) joke for the first time, as everyone else collapses in laughter, and grow more and more amused at the person's perpexment.

That reads more like bullying than teh funny. WE ALL GET IT AND YOU DON'T YOU ARE NOT ONE OF US.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

and it makes me sorry for getting involved. after all, i got shouted and sweared at.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's more like an initiation rite, because once they've heard the joke, they become ONE OF US.

x-post sigh, I'm not shouting and swearing at you, kit. I just like to shout and swear. Because I'm a bully, apparently. (I prefer willfully contrary, myself, but hey, write a letter to the arse council if you don't like it.)

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

WHAT DO I GET OUT OF THIS, I ALWAYS TRY, I ALWAYS MISS, IN THE END YOU WILL SUBMIT, IT'S GOT TO HURT YOU, A LITTLE BIT ::boom shicka shicka boom shicka shicka CHING!::

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

God, I just can't win, can I? If I'm in a bad mood, I'm "wallowing in self pity", and if I'm in a good mood, I'm "a bully".

Just accept that my natural personality *is* an asshole, and get on with it.

Bernard Sumner's Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

Who called you a bully? When you stop wallowing in self pity you could try reading the thread as if it wasn't all about you.

I commented that the situation you described as funny "read more like bullying" - I didn't call you a bully. Putting myself in a situation where I was in a room where nothing funny was actually said yet everyone in the room was laughing and pointing at me, it strikes me as something that would make me uncomfortable and isolated.

Hi everyone. I have had the world's most difficult Friday - a morning steeped in meeting after deign brief after process discussions after task management. Why did they make ME in charge of the sodding project? Oh well, hey ho, I guess it'll be a big adventure.

Dylan moran is v. good standup. Even if Kate DOESN'T enjoty it cos she doesn't like the form, everyone else should enjoy it. He's v. good at rambling.

I thought you'd given up drunkness for lent, or is that a lie? Have you prepared for Sunday? Do you have a costume yet?

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Friday, 7 April 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

LENT IS OVER!!! IT'S CANADIAN LENT WHICH ENDS A WEEK EARLY BECAUSE I STARTED MY NON DRUNKENNESS EARLY!!! Do I have to have a costume? Blimey! I was just gonig to wear a pretty dress or something. I want to listen to the Jazz Butcher but I've not got any. :-(

The best things in life are free
But you can give them to the SDP
I want to go to Tesco's store
And buy some drink and fall on the floor.
I don't care for smart new clothes
I don't care for reading books
I don't care for Quinn and Collins
I don't care for magazines

I don't like lemonade
I think milk should not be made
I don't like coffee and I don't like tea
These are the things that mystify me

I don't care for sport or swimming
I don't care for all those nasty old bogies
I don't care what's on TV
I just want to drink til I can't see

I wish I'd been born a tree
Someone'd come and make a barrel out of me
I get in a fury when I'm not in a brewery

Whiskey Vodka Special Brew
All of this is good for you
Gin sling, Cointreau, brandy sour...
Blot right out! Soul happy hour!

NOT CHUMBAWUNBA!!! JAZZ BUTCHER!!!

SHEESH!, thought Caroline, What the HELL was that? (Edgar Wallace!)
So she goes to the elevator, she thinks "Well, that'll be pretty straightforward" (Yes, STRAIGHT UP, Caroline...) You know what she finds?
The elevator breaks down with Caroline and the fish in it.
(Fish?) (Uh-oh...)
Do you know what happens if you leave a fish too long in an elevator?
You don't? (Uncontrollable Celtic whooping from Jones)
Well, here's a clue: fish is biodegradable. (THAT MEANS IT ROTS.)
Ner! Ner! Ner!

god, they hgave chords and everything,. we have GOT to cover drink. Oh yes. TROMBONE!

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Friday, 7 April 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

I have a mind like a playgroup with kiddies on the carpet
Toys on the table and lots and lots of noise
People leave their thoughts here
Like they'd leave their kids there
While they go out drinking and chasing boys.

I don't care, even if they do stare
I don't care, I don't mind at all
I don't care, even if they do stare
I haven't got a mind at all.
{Drag the F chord up & down the neck}
(La la la la la la la)

People wouldn't leave their kiddies on the M1
Might get run over, splish splat dead
So why do they assume that I've got any room for
All their stuff inside my head?

oh my lord, this is great.

Well I wish I'd born in a bar
I wouldn't have to walk so bloody far
I'd peel back my cranium, put my brain in a jar
If only I'd been born in a bar

And I wish I'd been born on the beach
With everything I wanted in my reach
I'd date the richest women and suck 'em like a leach
If only I'd been born on a beach

And I wish I'd been born in the woods
And I don't want to be misunderstood
I'd rail out all humanity and give it up for good
If only I'd been born in the woods

And I wish I'd been born up a tree
Walking on the ground just not for me
I'd build a little shelter, get my foilage for free
If only I'd been born up a tree

And I wish that I'd been born in Selangore
I wish I'd been a tiger even more
If I ever got in trouble I would only have to roar
So I'd been born in Selangore

And I wish I'd been born down the drain
'Tis where I've ended up, all the same
Talk to the spiders, that comes out in the rain
If I'd been born down the drain ...

(Or in a bar.)

the next part of that dream was really great too, my brother tried to skate but kept falling off, and all these london kids laughed at him.

pretty weird. obv, kaet is the gurl of my dreams.

Happy birthday Kate! Here is a guy with a pointy nose ho ho! ;)

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Monday, 10 April 2006 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

Only three days to work this week then SIX days off woo!

My ratio is four days work then four days off - but it's still woo-worthy. Woo!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 10 April 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

Today, I will be probably going "where am I"?

SOme of the good folks around here may remember when I was at a FAP last year, I was passing through Lon, on my way to the nightcoach to Newcastle (leaves 23:30, arrives 06:00). Well, yesterday I did the "New->Lon" part. (Same timing, diff direction). Return journey Wednesday night. Anyway, have not slept properly overnight, so umm.. whatever.

teh_kit says 'dont fight u nubs just run in teh instance!' (g-kit), Monday, 10 April 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

You'd probably picked up SUBCONSCIOUSLY on the fact that the SCs had a gig.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 10 April 2006 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

i figured that much out on my own. forget it...

(technically the wrong thread, ah well)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 10 April 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

Urrrgh. By way of practising my new assertiveness techniques, I sent my soup back at lunch because it was inedibly peppery. Sadly, the only thing I could really have instead was chips. And since I'd already bought a Mars Bar to have after my soup and apple I had a horrifically lardy lunch and I now feel SHITE.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 10 April 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

I’m really pushing my luck at work; I’ve just been to the pub for 2 hours. I then, come back and start making crisp sandwiches at my desk.

I’m expecting to get a "can I have a word" soon.

But he's not...Speaking as someone equally drunk who also spent the past few hours sat opposite him in the pub (along with my own team leader - who has just staggered off home), I can point out that his team leader isn't in today (and, as he's just told me, for the next two weeks)...So he should give a shit!

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 10 April 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

Sigh. I'm not being arrogant or anything, but this thread is kinda boring when I'm not here.

I'm taking a break from painting and drinking and trying to decide if I've picked the wrong pink. Oh no! It looks better during the daytime than during the night. Or is it the other way around? I don't know.

Dammit, Mr. Knight said he was going to email me instructions on how to become a Lady Freemason but he clearly hasn't been in his office yet. :-(

Anyway, what this thread needs is some more Dylan Moran, clearly:

srsly though, did you see the thing about the gig/dream thing upthread? everybody else played it cool and pretended it happens everyday. i just want someone to be like "cor, that's pretty funny/weird/interesting"

Hello there.

I'm all cheerful and excited this week.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

for real?

teh_kit says 'FACES' (g-kit), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

sometiems i cry myself 2 sleep
tis a shame.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

for real?

Of course!

One afternoon in a pub has left me feeling cheerful, optimistic, and thinking: why don't I just go out and do all the things I want to, instead of sitting at home whining about being too shy to do anything.

Not sure how long it will last, but it's good whilst it does.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Well done FP. I say do what you want to do, don't do things you don't. And it's a well known fact that shyness can stop you from doing all the things in life you'd like to.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Really? Do you have a cite for that last bit? ;-)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

that's some good thinking, FP. congrats!

teh_kit says 'FACES' (g-kit), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

how much did you have to drink? 8)

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

Drink! Drink! Drink makes everything good! Hurrah for good news!

I have finished painting my living room/kitchen (though I haven't done the paisleys yet, they may have to wait. It's still pretty eyebending. And I can spill Merlot on the purple bits and Rose d'Anjou on the pink bits and have it not stain!) and am going to try to get a start on the bedroom before I have to go to some reading tonight. Oh, and I have to pick up bits of furniture this afternoon. I'm running out of money, argh! Why is paint so expensive?

Did I not comment on your dream, g-kit? Sorry, I thought I did. Whoa! I was in your dream. ACtually, that's kind of cool, I like the idea of being in other people's dreams so long as I'm more glamourous and exciting than in real life.

No Masonic email from Mr. Knight. He has forgotten me, bah. :-(

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Thursday, 13 April 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Kate! I think I'm the only person in this country at work today. Am eating food I think you wouldn't eat and drinking black tea w/lemon. Happy painting!

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Thursday, 13 April 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

I was completely sober - I was driving :-P

I'm at work today, but not at my own office. Have been installing ADSL at a branch office - so it is of course Vitally Important that I thoroughly test their new internet connection ;-)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 13 April 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Hello! It's been a while. Work's been so busy I've hardly had time to sneeze. Highlights: working two weekends in a row, 12-13 hour days, computer dying and having to bring in my powerbook every day, doing two people's jobs, being super-competent, nearly having a nervous breakdown. Now I'm on holiday until 24 April.

So what's news? And hands up who has had a birthday?

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 13 April 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

does last october count?

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 13 April 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Well since nobody with a more recent birthday is about, yes it does. Happy birthday koogs.

And it's back at the office for yet another week...

My annual review is supposed to be coming before next pay day - which means this week, in other words.

(the rumour is that it won't, though - so our manager gets to avoid telling us what our raise is this year himself)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 07:30 (nineteen years ago)

It's time for a new thread. I'm sick of this one. I will start it.
