mitya's new york minute (mitya), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

fucking torrents mang.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

it's child's play!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

I thought I just posted to this thread. My post got LOST (do you SEE?).

Anyway, I was going to say I started torr3nting it, and I watched the first two episodes then got fed up with it. Too much effort. If only some nice person I know had them already and could lend them to me...

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

hey here's a naughty scheme: WATCH AN EP EACH WEEK WITH ALL US PLEBS.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

I caught up a bit while I was in Canada. My only spoiler is it's just as fun/frustrating as the first series.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, I watch 24 and West Wing and House and everything a week at a time like a pleb, but Lost is DIFFERENT. Somehow. Maybe because it's the first (and only) thing I've ever watched via teh magick of teh internets.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

I've got 9 or so episodes in avi/mpg format but haven't got round to making DVDs yet. I might go with Enrique's plan.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

do you torrent0rz burn the eps on to dvd and watch it on tv, or... watch it on the computer screen?

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

eurgh, the ad breaks though. seem so much more intrusive and frustrating than with other shows.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

YSI, onimo?

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

stevem = indie advert-hater.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

the 'sponsored by blah blah blah' is more annoying than the ads.

i watch them on the computer screen, whilst reclining on a bed.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

DEPENDS ON MY MOOD. SUCH IS TEH FREEDOM OF TEH TORRENZOR xpost

teh_kit!!1 has 5 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

I plug my computer into my tv and do it that way.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

i watch em on a telly with a cable from my mac. THUS i win

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

(bah x-post)

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

And the best thing about torrenting, for me, is that it means you don't get any spoiler-filled "next week on lost" bits.

doesn't that mean I won first alan? Or are we having a mac vs pc argument now? :)

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

(bah x-post)

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

I've got a dvd player that plays avis and mpgs. It's quite handy really.

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

i watch them on the computer screen, whilst reclining on a bed.

-- Konal Doddz (stevem7...), April 5th, 2006.

wtf?

people have computers (and a pretty big monitor in this case, one presumes) in they bedrooms?

xpost

i like alan and jim's mode of action here.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

YSI, onimo?

Your plebeian superiority didn't last long :-)

(I had the first series burned onto DVD by a very nice man who posts around these parts, and I watched the first two of this series on my computer with its very big monitor in my spare bedroom)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

I've got a dvd player that plays avis and mpgs

I've been getting around to buying one of these. They're only about £30, aren't they? But then there's the faff of burning each episode to a disc before you watch it...

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

Enrique it's my spare room, or rumpus room as i am fond of referring to it as.

I can't be arsed to burn them to DVD to watch on normal TV. But I am buying a laptop, partly so that I can do it the Jim D way.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not prying into people's bedroom habits y'know here, much, but for an internet dude, i somehow haven't got into torrents, and i never got into d/l either.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

The dvd player was like £50, I think. Burning a straight avi or mpeg is much less hassle than the process of creating dvd video.

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

what model is it Greig?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

i now find it easier to torrent something than setting the VCR. sad but true.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

you can buy like 10 episodes burned onto DVD for about a fiver on ebay btw, kids. i bought the first dozen on 3 dvds, then DLed the most recent ones myself. the ebay ppl will mail you saying "OMG DONT BUY THAT ITS ILLEGALZ" but you just ignore them k?

teh_kit!!1 has 5 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

i find it easy enough to stay in on a weeknight :0(

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

i don't really have very much in common with my coworkers, so the lost chat on thursday is one of the few things that stops me being a total outsider!

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

you'd fit in well on the island.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

that would be postmodern.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

xpost
The dvd player's a Philips DVP5100. £57 at amazon. £70 at argos.
It's not as nice a dvd player as my Sony, but it plays all my avis and mpegs. Which is nice.

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

i think mine plays formats like avi and mpeg, but fucking burning a disc.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

Takes no time really, though. Using fast rw discs helps, I suppose

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

macs don't do rw dvds apparently... but any case i think i need the discipline of the show being on for me to bother watching it!

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

I have been out shopping, but now I am back: IS THAT A HINT, AILSA? (If so, then I can take it)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

xpost

I fell into using my pc to record telly when my vcr broke. Having to author dvd video got tiresome. So I bought the dvd player. Much better lounging on a couch than sat in front of a pc.
Of course I got the telewest pvr the other week, so I don't need to do that anymore. (Why yes I am addicted to gadgets - why do you ask?)

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

got a fair way into via the torrentz but for some of the scene where its night/dark they just look not too good

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

ah, so this is the u.k. style!

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

what's down the hatch? is michael jackson still black?? the russians are coming to kill us.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I am getting the first 18 episodes of downloaded LOST S2 on Friday! I was late to the party but I love LOST so much now.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

aldo, it was indeed a cunningly disguised hint. Not directed at anyone in particular, mind, but feel free to be obliging. God, I'm going to owe you so much beer when you come up.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:27 (nineteen years ago)

I need to check up once I'm back in work that the dates I posted are right, but if so then aldoFAP is indeed that week. Free beer is always good, obviously.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 6 April 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
nearly back tres excited despite it gonna be six weeks before i catch up with the few episodes i already seen....

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:23 (nineteen years ago)

trailer gives away too much.

25 yr old slacker cokehead (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that is a really stupid trailer

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

spoiler: Jin actually speaks every single language ever created.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

The episode with Ricky Gervais in it is classic

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

I was very disappointed with the luke-warm reaction to the season 2 opener on the American thread. I hope some people over here are going to find it as good as I did (at least the very start of the episode).

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't seen the trailer obviously but the Radio Times this week seemed a bit spoilerish as well, profiling the 'new characters' and stuff.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

i thought season 2 episode 1 was incredibly exciting but i was a bit too late to the US thread at the time.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Yay.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

from what i've seen of the series definately seems to follow the first seasons amazing first third dull middle third, and then so i'm told crazy third bit....

they are showing first two episodes back to back on four then third on e4 if anyone fancies a marathon

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

bien sur

25 yr old slacker cokehead (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

I think the opening 2 eps are amazing-
most people found them "boring", but they are my fave of this season so far.

clodia pulchra (emo by proxy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

so anyone know whats the deal with the ten minute ctach up thing one of my mates was going on about?

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

i think in the states they had a whole ep of catch-up before the last eps of serie une.

25 yr old slacker cokehead (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

they need it because of MTV and fast food

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

that'sracist.gif

25 yr old slacker cokehead (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

hmm, could do the three hours, not sure.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh is this tonight? So worth seeing again, sometimes I wish I had a tv.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

yeah thinking i'll watch again for the inevitable ahhh that is weird how ties into the future episodes

k

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

It's here!

There was a strange, fictional advert in the first adbreak...

Slumpman (Slump Man), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

yeah they are doing the whole lost experience thingy

thought't i'd start up a proper thread for it

lost the experience: it's not in the tree's it in the fictional websites

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

But you've gotta make your own kind of music
sing your own special song,
make your own kind of music
even if nobody else sings along

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 06:52 (nineteen years ago)

Second episode (S2) prob the best single episode yet, though the flashbacks were really getting in the way and unwelcome. Not as much as the adverts though, natch.

David Orton (scarlet), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

i thought both were a bit clunky but the hanso thing is funny. wonder how they'll get that into the dvd.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

hadn't actually seen the Hanso advert before despite being up to date with US transmissions.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:35 (nineteen years ago)

eurgh, the ad breaks though. seem so much more intrusive and frustrating than with other shows.

the hanso bits all to do with that whole lost experience

i cant really understand how the whole brain messing detail all over the internet stuff can really make any sense money wise

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

although funnee, i wish i hadn't googled hanso now.

Did Desmond crack an egg into his energy drink?

If so - where are the chickens?

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

that 'hi, i'm j. j. abrams' thing for 'm:i 3' is so sucky!

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

chickens aren't the only things that lay eggs

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

I have already said too much

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

the monster is in fact a giant mutant chicken.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

"why am I so massive?"

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

bad rjg.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

I reckon it's a chickenbear.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

a polarchickenbear, that's why the eggs are white

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

ep three is fantastic.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Monday, 8 May 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

Too many bloody adverts though!

C J (C J), Monday, 8 May 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

Talking of adverts - does anyone know what the operatic type music is on the trailers?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

it famous, but not famous enough for me to know it

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

UK luddite style!

teh_kit has 20 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

i'm being called a luddite on the internet.

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

ah, the return of the 'emo ending'.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 07:07 (nineteen years ago)

we missed two eps. then i was able to see the re-runs but fell asleep!!!!! i awoke to a film which seemed a bit similar but it was HORROR. so i completely freaked out. :-(

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

arse. i've now caught up with the first three eps and i keep doing silly things like glancing at (but not properly reading) the wikipedia entries about dharma/hanso and ... er, the show itself.

i'm having to stop myself reading the US series two thread here an' all.

i love lost, me. how did i cope without it?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 11 May 2006 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
last night's ep on e4 was, i think badly directed. scenes didn't play out very well. for example, at the start, michael doesn't explain to anna-lucia that he knows said and shannon. and didn't a-l only have the one bullet?! if so, where was the threat? (and indeed, what happened to the whispering others?)

if she'd made an enemy of everyone by killing shannon, how would killing said achieve anything?

and then when mr echo showed up, we didn't get any decent back-and-forth; there was a particularly lame bit with locke. they took the 'jack flies off the handle without asking questions' thing way too far.

plus a-l's backstory was lame.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:18 (nineteen years ago)

am on '24' series 3, midnight thursday sky 3 as well.

fuck a binge session.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

it took me a month to watch each series, which worked well because each series takes place over roughly 4 weeks itself.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

not a logic you want to extend to '24'.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

i gave up on 24 after series 3 but Alan keeps saying how great the 4th and current series are.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

the fifth is meant to be great, but at current rate it'll be c. 2009 when i get to it.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

but you don't need to know what's going on, in '24', it's always pretty good.

half way through! poor hurley :(

Slumpman (Slump Man), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

wow now i can read other people anticipating!

LIKED the ending, a GOOD cliffhanger in that it introduced a new element and hopefully quashed the 'nothing exists but the island' thing.

henry's "we're the good guys" line felt a bit too convincing! maybe the dharma lot split in two?

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

7 DAYS.

"We're the good guys" I'm presuming is not opposed to the survivors, but raise the prospect of some REALLY bad dudes existing on some other part of the island.

The most intriguing unexplained thing in the 2nd series - what the hell was that ghostly black cloud thing in the jungle?

OTM

the REAL mystery is the the big four-toed colossus foot.

maybe this shd all go on the US thread though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 8 February 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

i gonna wait tis hard though

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Thursday, 8 February 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

you can buy it on itunes... in the US. it's like they're making me break the law.

the original hauntology blogging crew (Enrique), Friday, 9 February 2007 09:32 (eighteen years ago)

I think I'm going to stop torrenting it. The new series starts on Sky on Sunday! Only five days behind the US. Take that, Channel 4.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 9 February 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah but that's still 5 days without clicking the L O S T thread which I'm about to read :)

case of the mutual heart friendship (onimo), Friday, 9 February 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

i got home last night and it still hadn't finished downloading after 10 hours. stayed up to wait for it.

i was wondering about the itunes option. how do they stop you purcasing tv show episodes once you've logged in - do they just say 'sorry you are not in the US'?

vita susicivus (blueski), Friday, 9 February 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

yup!

the original hauntology blogging crew (Enrique), Friday, 9 February 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

also i think music on itunes US is $1 (ie cheaper than in the UK), and you can't get it either.

the original hauntology blogging crew (Enrique), Friday, 9 February 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

well that makes sense, considering the exchange rate - but yes it shows up how flimsy the system is.

vita susicivus (blueski), Friday, 9 February 2007 11:06 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah but that's still 5 days without clicking the L O S T thread which I'm about to read :)

It has become thread of spoilers, so I don't read it anymore. I do not like to know anything before I sit down to watch each episode (easy cos I'm so thick, ho ho).

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 9 February 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

hi dere i am going crazy

teh_kit never wins (g-kit), Friday, 9 February 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah by the time you could download the torrent its going to be friday or saturday, so might aswell wait.
Then can prove to my mates how lost is better than 24.

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Friday, 9 February 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

But waiting would be futile, since I don't have Sky. Hopefully my DL hasn't died today.

teh_kit never wins (g-kit), Friday, 9 February 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

I have been holding off saying this for some reason, but for the last few months I've been able to get torrents of Lost and other stuff download super fast (like, in less time than the show actually lasts) using a Swedish site calle s w e l o a d e r s . org. The site is all in Swedish, but it pretty much follows the template of other torrent sites I'm on. When you register, there's like, enter u/n and p/w, then confirm password. The usual stuff. You should be able to work it out. Bläddra means search.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 9 February 2007 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

Crikey, Friday or Saturday? Ours is usually finished early Thursday! Would love to have Sky though, to see it on a proper telly (albeit with ads, but maybe we could watch it an hour later on sky+ or something).

5 days is pretty quick. Has an American show ever been aired that close over here?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Saturday, 10 February 2007 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

I think there was one time when because of the breaks in US runs, the UK ended up catching up so much that the final episode actually ended up airing here before it did in America. LA Law, or something.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 10 February 2007 02:09 (eighteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

fucking torrents mang.
