well apparently suzy done gawn and nommo'd grace and nikki.

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

Oooh, I like the thread title.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

I guess that means Grace is out this Friday then as presumably the GBP would like to see her flayed alive then dipped in vinegar.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

If Suzy really wanted to fuck with their minds she'd have nominated two of the most popular housemates - say, Pete and Glyn.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

Disclaimer, I haven't seen any BB for several days and don't intend to until the World Cup Final.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

But that would make GBP hate her and she wouldn't have a chance of winning herself. She should have got rid of possible 3rd and 4th placers.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - Can you stop spelling the woman's name like mine, please?

Madchen, the GPB hate her anyway because they think she's either Veruca Salt or a fix.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

Are you sure? ILX + DS != GBP.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

True enough, but also BB voters don't favour late entrants, golden ticket or no.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, imagine if ILX + DS did = GBP.

Actually, that is more frightning than the current situation.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

They like it when they think a contestant is "one of us" a la Chantelle, but I don't think Suzie is the right sort of person to pull that off. I agree she's not going to win, mind.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

probably bad for the economy.

xpost

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

That new woman is already worse than Grace. She has an annoying way about her.

David Orton (scarlet), Monday, 12 June 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

True enough, but also BB voters don't favour late entrants, golden ticket or no.

Eugene to thread.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 June 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

but he was charming, and very similar to glyn in a way

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Monday, 12 June 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

I think there will be a twist on Wednesday.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 12 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

> That new woman is already worse than Grace. She has an annoying way about her.

her lack of tact when handing out the invites to her party was shocking.

koogy wonderland (koogs), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

I suspect that the lack of tact was prompted by the time limit she had on getting the invitations handed out. I also suspect that had she taken the individuals concerned aside even more rage and paranoia from the non-invitees would have resulted.

Suzie: Glyn, Richard, Lea and Aislyne; could I have a private word with you?
Rumbling noise
Lisa: What's that fookin' sound?
Pete: That's the sound of Grace's teeth grinding together.Wanky fuck!

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

her lack of tact when handing out the invites to her party was shocking.

Haha, "you like spagettii bolognaise don't you?"
"er, yeah"
"good, that means I can pretend I'm being only fair and nice when I hand this invite to the person standing next to you"

(I would prefer the spag bol myself, Suzie has a face like a cadaver and that would put me right off me mince.)

David Orton (scarlet), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

(I have to keep reminding myself that "mince" and "minge" are not, in fact, the same word.)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

Has Imogen completely disappeared from the show? What an utterly worthless housemate.

Completely agree with Stone Monkey about Aislene at the end of the last thread. It goes mostly unnoticed but she's slowly showing herself to be one of the nicer housemates. Not a contender for winning but a nice addition to the house.

I don't agree with the people who are saying Endemol screwed up by letting Grace hear the chanting - it's delightfully cathartic to see her in mental turmoil (and no, I have no shame about this - judging on her performance over the past couple of week I'd wager the girl has made countless people suffer in the past and has never been on the receiving end of same). Plus, it's not like Davina will rip her to shreds in the interview so this could be our only chance to watch her squirm.

I imagine the BB producers are cursing Suzie getting in. She's a posh bland mirror-image of Lea and doesn't look likely to cause much in the way of exciting TV. But aren't we due another housemate to replace George? More than anything we need a new alpha-male figure to a) topple Richard, b) woo Imogen, and c) stop the house spiralling into nicey-nice tedium post-Grace.

Affectian (Affectian), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

It's been bugging me for a while but just realised who Richard reminds me of:

Affectian (Affectian), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

Suzie is COMPLETELY insincere.

I feel for Grace a little.

David Orton (scarlet), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I think the Grace-hate has become totally out of proportion. Lisa seem way meaner, and Suzie more insincere (and dull). I've tried to stick up for Richard for a while 'cause he's Canadian, but blimey he's patronising.

Mikey and Aisleyne getting attached next week could be interesting, though.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

OTOH she's not so big a bully that she needs to get bullied by the entire GBP in return ... I think the Grace-hate has become totally out of proportion

i've just spent half of "big brain" arguing with mrs fiendish about this ... i absolutely loathe grace, but i'll admit that this is partly because she reminds me of the dreadful overprivilged private-schoolgirls i met at school [1] and then - in frightening numbers - in my first year at university. it took me until i was 19 or so to learn how to deal with them and after that they ceased to upset me so (indeed, i became good friends with several of them), but my inner schoolboy still screams with horror at the very sight of grace (let alone the sound of her voice).

that said, i do stand by the presumption i made in the previous thread: it's obvious she's wafted through life thinking/being told that she's the best thing since sliced ciabatta, and i have no sympathy for anyone who's reached the age of 20 without thinking, hang on a fucking minute, should i actually take some kind of long, hard look at myself? if this is the first time she's actually had to confront the less pleasant parts of her personality/persona, it's fucking WELL overdue.

as for the GBP: a lot of it, naturally, is good ol'-fashioned class envy/hatred, and i'm afraid i just can't work up any kind of sympathy on behalf of a haughty sloane whose mum bought her a fucking £340k flat. this is perhaps immature and pathetic of me, but hey: wasn't one of the loftier ideals of the original BB that it would tell us as much about ourselves and our attitudes as it would about the housemates?

[1] yes, this makes me an overpriviliged private-schoolboy. but in fairness i spent my teenage years hating myself for it and ... oh, never mind ;)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 12 June 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

I think that's a bit harsh on someone who's only 20. She's smarter and more mature than I was at that age.

The Grace/Sezer hatred seems to be about punishing archetypal high school figures from the past rather than the actual people themselves. Sezer is the awful bloke who stole the girl you fancied. Grace is the rich kid who spent the whole of the sixth form blanking you and being miserable despite having it made. Sezer deserved it; I'm not convinced Grace does.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 12 June 2006 22:24 (nineteen years ago)

The Grace/Sezer hatred seems to be about punishing archetypal high school figures from the past rather than the actual people themselves

hmmmm. sort of, but not really. i don't think i've ever met any sezers; i've met plenty of priapic/overly confident/sex-obsessed blokes, but quite often they've become friends (or at least acquaintances) and i've forgiven them their cock-happy ways. but sezer was repulsively fucking smug and insufferably bollock-driven in a way i've never really come across IRL; he truly was in a class of his own.

grace is more of an archetype, yes; and for me personally there are elements of teenage loathing/class hatred in there. but i really don't think the same can be said of the rest of the country ... i mean, it really is very unusual for me to be in step with the rest of the GBP on something like this ;)

i think, at base, it's simply that she's coming across like an arrogant, stirring, two-faced cow ;)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 12 June 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

actually, i'm still reserving my deepest well of loathing for mikey, whose video introduction thing was beyond despicable. because he's also a tedious toss, there's been little evidence of his wankery in the house ... but i still hope he spends the majority of his existence suffering severe torsion of the testes.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 12 June 2006 22:45 (nineteen years ago)

DIPPY Big Brother star Helen Adams has dumped lover Paul Clarke — five years after they fell in love on the show.

Hairdresser Helen, 28 — famous for saying “Oh, my God” and “I love blinking, I do” — ended the romance after a rocky few months.

She said: “I felt like the Wicked Witch because I was first to say something. Once we started being honest, we realised we get on better as friends.”

The pair, who met on BB2, have sold their home in Barnet, North London, and are renting separate flats.

Paul, 29, admitted last night: “The last couple of months have been hell. But deep, deep down we know we’re making the right decision.

“From the day we met, we’ve never had time apart. We need to find ourselves again.”

The couple had the longest-running BB romance.

Grace is her friend.

Pete's found her a bit in your face.

Imogen's found her a bit self centered.

Richard ah you fill in the rest.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

"I do like her without make-up," (Glyn) said of Aisleyne, prompting a stunned reaction from Grace.

"Do you not like more natural looking girls that look the same without make-up as they do with make-up?" she retorted.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

grace was theorising that the public might not like her because of a) mikey and their thing, b) pete and his dislike of her and, now, c) they think she's a chelsea girl or sloane ranger (one of her own, self-applied phrases) when she actually lives in notting hill

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:36 (nineteen years ago)

Pete doesn't like her?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

Grace is funny! "I'm not a person that holds grudges, that's not me. But if I stay in the house, I'll hold a grudge, definitely. I will FOR HER".

I wonder if she has a knife collection at herm (in Notting Hill yes quite right RJG - same COUNCIL as Chelsea tho innit)!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

Once again, a 'model' enters the house, and the other 'models' establish that they are 'this' kind of model whereas she is 'that' kind of model.

1. Model that does porn
2. Model that flaunts their body on cars and that
3. Model that does promotions work
4. Model that goes to the hairdressers and gets a cheap haircut, once in a while.

OK, so I'm category four. chill.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

When in actual fact the GBP hate her because she's the spawn of Satan a vindictive, manipulative cow.

Re Grace Theory (a), did she really say the GBP might think she was "some kind of hoochie mama"?

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

Or did my ears deceive me?

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

you have good ears

from channel4.com:

Grace then trudged into the Diary Room and stayed in there for, like, an hour. Crying mostly, but also talking about the reasons anyone could possibly have it in for her.

"They must have portrayed me as some slag or hoochie mamma, I know what girls are like," she said. "But I was just being myself. Maybe I should have been backstabbing like everyone else."

She seemed convinced her low approval rating had something to do with her fling with Mikey and rejected all other possibilities. "Maybe I've been over-bitching but I'm sure I haven't. I don't s***-stir," she said.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

What is a hoochie mama?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

That's Sting's next album title up there, btw.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

So far she's used "hoochie mama", "ghetto-ho" and "wigga" - not forgetting her favourite, "MOOSE"! Takes me right back to 5th year does that.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

Affluent, subsidised white girls of that ilk watch *nothing* but MTV Base.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

I know *nothing* about affluent, subsidised white girls of that ilk or MTV base

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

Are posh white girls allowed to use that kind of slang?

Which posh white girl are we talking about here? Grace, Nikki or Aisleyne (or whatever the fuck she's called)?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

grace

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

Mikey telling Grace v. politely she oughtn't to say 'wigga' was the only decent thing I've seen him do so far.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

Although I wonder if he was warning her about how she might be perceived rather than for simple That's Not Nice reasons.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

A bit of both, I think. He has warned her a couple of times how you just can't say certain things for PC reasons.

Bottom line is a girl like Grace will think that whatever she is doing is cool as long as she isn't opening her legs to anyone in public, and if a girl seems like the other type it's just fair comment as part of life's great competition between women who 'know what girls are like'.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

I think I remember him saying "you can't say that" and she said "yeah but you think it don't you" and he nodded or laughed or nodded and laughed or sort of nodded and laughed or something

crosspost

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

he nodded or laughed or nodded and laughed or sort of nodded and laughed or something

yeh, that's pretty much what he seems to spend his every waking minute doing. and probably his sleeping ones too.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Mikey, on the other hand, spoke out about what he perceived to be an increasing dominance of the older housemates. "This show's going to end up shit," he ranted. "Why do you want a fucking load of old people?"

"Old people", he deduced, were the cause of the show becoming boring. He pleaded: "For fuck's sake, let's get pissed and fucking dance."

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

I still can't understand how Grace is posh, she is not posh, at all. My gf agrees. Posh is like.....that girl Sada from years ago.

Also don't understand the fevered hate, like she isn't even annoying, just a bore.

How can the public hate her so much? Is there a kind of hating her cos she's (relatively) pretty thing going on? Or cos she's the alpha female and more women watch the show?

I dunno, just seems kind of weird, most hated contestants in the past have been more forcefully awful.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

can't much remember sada... she was a hippy?

grace lives in a flat her mum bought her in notting hill and she went to private school. for most people that will do for 'posh'.

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

Sada was posho yoga type rather than actual hippy. So yes, hippy.

What have I missed since last Wednesday? Anything good.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

is posh just a matter of finance? surely not.

she doesn't SEEM posh or speak poshly or even act poshly, or dress in a posh way.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

Although I wonder if he was warning her about how she might be perceived rather than for simple That's Not Nice reasons.
-- Mädchen (madchen_in_unifor...), June 13th, 2006. (later)

From the evidence he's given us so far I very much doubt Mikey thinks about anything to that sort of depth...

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

she doesn't SEEM posh or speak poshly or even act poshly, or dress in a posh way.

she's *relatively* well-spoken. dress in a posh way means what!?

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Ronan, she sounds rich middle-class London, to me. Which is a kind of posh, just not by long-term breeding. Real posh people hang out with people like Grace quite a lot, I think. Hurrah for class mobility!

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

Her voice is really awful. She sounds like Patty and/or Selma.

Bluebell Madonna (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

(if Patty and Selma were English)

Bluebell Madonna (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

relative to what, she just seems middle class to me.

x-post Alba otm.

I don't know about dressing in a posh way, I guess people have different ideas about this, but surely more conservative dress would be more posh? she's hardly dressing smartly or fashionably enough to qualify for posh (or far differently from the other housemates?)

I guess also what I'm getting at is that it's tricky to say she is a brand of posh that is actually really considered annoying or in your face, at least IMO.

Is she really snootier than other housemates? If so is this because of her background. I don't really see that in a very pronounced way.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

surely more conservative dress would be more posh?

Ronan, not all posh girls are the Queen.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

thing is, "posh" is such a loaded/movable/misused term anyway. i mean, no, she's not wearing a tiara and a ballgown, but she is a rich girl from rich circles and, as enrique says, for most people that - plus a private education - equates "posh" in this day and age. anyway: surely it's only right that "posh" is a constantly evolving, subjective term?

(i could have summed this up with a simple "alba OTM" but hey, fuck it.)

now i'm getting back to work before this descends into a pointless debate about semantics ;)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get the Grace hate either. She's a bit of a bossy-boots, a bit stuck-up, a bit catty - but less smug and deluded about their own importance than Richard, and less hateful and self-centred than Lea. She just hasn't done anything that's beyond the pale, especially in comparison with every other HM. I mean, she's dull and should go and all that, but wtf? What's fuelling this witch-hunt?

David Orton (scarlet), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

I know this. But posh in the sense of it having any meaning as some kind of pejorative surely should involve actual noticeable behaviour, if it's just calling someone posh cos they are moneyed but actually behave and dress like non-posh people then what's the point.

Also more conservative does not equal the Queen, there are smarter ways to dress that denote money that are not staid (perhaps conservative was the wrong choice of word tho, fair enough)

I just don't really understand the significance of posh as a description for Grace. also it's worth noting that people are a lot slower to criticise other housemates and relate their behaviour to their social class when this social class isn't a moneyed one.

This is despite the fact that arguably someone like Lea or Lisa who is obsessed with being looked down on and swears constantly is behaving far in a far more class stereotypical way. I'm not encouraging people to come out and denounce her for this but there is a double standard there I think.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

x-post I meant I know what Alba said above.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

I just don't really understand the significance of posh as a description for Grace. also it's worth noting that people are a lot slower to criticise other housemates and relate their behaviour to their social class when this social class isn't a moneyed one.

it's her sense of entitlement and the idea she's above aisyhlene etc.

it wouldn't be ilxx form to say 'omg lea, wot a prole', but i hope it's obvious why.

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

According to my flatmate’s mate, Grace was wearing a £200 highly covetable scarf on her head last night. It was Matthew Williamson, or summat, I dunno, but apart from that, can’t see much evidence of particular designer-yness. Mind you, it’s quite hard to be really fashionista-y in this hot weather. She doesn’t seem amazingly fashionable in general. If she really was posh, she’d be above fashion in that perennial stripy rugby top (collars turned up), boot cut indigo jeans, honey coloured highlights sloaney way.

Nobodys Prawn (Nobodysprawn), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

If she really was posh, she’d be above fashion in that perennial stripy rugby top (collars turned up), boot cut indigo jeans, honey coloured highlights sloaney way.

OTM. This is exactly what I had in mind.

I don't think Grace has a sense of entitlement. Surely Lea or Lisa have just as much a sense of entitlement, always moaning about people not treating them as equals etc, and saying others will not be able to survive because they won't change their behaviour for anyone etc? If Grace is so posh why is she sitting bitching with the others (who aren't posh) for hours.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

The reason people hate Grace has nothing to do with her perceived poshness or lack of it! It's because she's the worst shit-stirrer in there!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

Lea and Lisa moan about people not treating them as equals.

Grace moans about female housemates thinking that they are 'number one'.

That's the difference.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

she (and Lisa i think) was key in the whole sam he said/she said farce

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Worst shit stirrer only if you mean about half the time she doesn't even realise she's stirring! Hence way worse. There has never been any rhyme or reason to her stirring, not enough to really damn her as devious anyway.

Do you really think thousands of hate filled BB protestors actually can manage to unite against her cos of fairly complicated shit stirring episodes? There has to be another more blatant reason!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

Well, no I think that's it. Bear in mind the 'chanting' was wholly female.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

Am I the only person who thinks BB has totally jumped the shark this year? Especially with the female housemates who are totally dominant in the house, politically at least. I notice Aisleyne is on the front page of Nuts or Zoo this week and Imogen already has been before even leaving the house. It couldn't be because they were already on the fringes of Z-list celebrity circles and therefore has big PR offensives aimed at getting them in there in the first place, could it? Does Endemol get any money for their post-BB media appearances?

But yes, another male housemate desperately needed, but a bog-standard alpha male probably not.

grimly spartish (grimlord), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

Also am I right in thinking there's a bit of a public backlash against a show in which there are four models with boob jobs?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, I'm not convinced there isn't just hate the relatively pretty middle class girl thing at work here. She has done so little to earn such massive hatred, especially when you think of others who were booed so heavily.

Also the BB mob victimises just as often if not more often as it puts people in their place.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

Ach it's all a fucking joke with their 'girls who are likely to get their baps out' nonsense.

It's so blatant, yet the majority of the audience is female.

Weird.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

There was an interview somewhere (prob: Heat) where Davina was talking about how Gay Men and Models always get picked for BB as they all have interesting lives and personalities...

Now, even if that were true, does that mean everyone else is not? Or that only the 'superficially' wacky auditioners stand a chance of even getting to stage two?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

Davina is a bitch.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

If Davina was in the house she would be booed on exit more raucously than any housemate to date.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

NB: I don't think Grace is attractive at all, neither does Mr R.

He claims her face is "Plain. Plain weird."

None of the blokes in the office seem to think she's good looking either, nice body, they agree, shame about the face.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

She's pretty compared to the rest of them. Either way she's pretty enough to be "Big Brother babe Grace".

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

I think Ronan is just being Captain Save-A-BB-Ho.

As for the Davina point upthread - who cares what their lives are like outside? It's what they do inside the house that makes them interesting! Which is why Glyn, who has the most unexciting outside life, is doing so well, because of this whole comical voyage of self-discovery.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not I just don't get the criticism, I can't think of anything she's done to merit hatred.

Mind you it was the same for Sam, people booing, but for what. Just seemed vindictive and pointless. I am still convinced they played cheers through the tannoy to drown out the booing when Sam left the house.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Compared to Lea, Lisa and Aisleyne (sans make-up) maybe, but even Skeletor is better looking, not to mention Imogen and Nikki (with her weird nibbly teeth)

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

It's just stereotypical "good looks" that matter, and she is winning that at the moment, plus she isn't a raving imbecile like Nikki.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

But absolutely everything Nikki says is either appalling or hilarious - especially as she thinks she's being neither. She must stay.

i am not a nugget (stevie), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Grace was wearing a £200 highly covetable scarf on her head last night. It was Matthew Williamson, or summat, I dunno, but apart from that, can’t see much evidence of particular designer-yness.

posh people don't really wear designer clothes, do they? at any rate it's not a yardstick of poshness, probably quite the opposite! don't really posh people wear 10 holey jumpers in the winter in their big houses they can't afford to heat?

If she really was posh, she’d be above fashion in that perennial stripy rugby top (collars turned up), boot cut indigo jeans, honey coloured highlights sloaney way.

OTM. This is exactly what I had in mind.

this might be a definition of a particular (& visible) branch of posh person i.e. a sloane ranger circa 1990's. i'm not sure you really seem to have a good idea of what a posh person might be like which, as grimley pointed out, was already quite broad and is changing all the time.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

and if anything she seems fairly close to that rugby shirt & highlights thing anyway, no?

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not sure you really seem to have a good idea of what a posh person might be like which

rather you have TOO MUCH of an idea of what poshness looks like.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

No, Ronan has a pretty good idea about der poshies. However Grace's look is very typical for West London girls with bought flats. She probably wears Ugg boots around the house.

As to the labels thing a Grace-type girl shops at places like Browns Focus for a few expensive things and mixes those with H&M and TopShop vests, but never buys cheap shoes unless they're Converse. She will also have received a Tiffany keychain for the flat keys or the car keys, whichever comes first.

if poshness is so broad then there's no point in using it as a criticism, this is what I said....already

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

yeah but limiting it to your own definition of it makes even less sense to me.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not limiting it to my own definition, I said "she is not posh" by my definition.

Then others said "yes but posh is a far broader concept"

Then I said "if it's so broad then it does not really describe anyone does it?"

And that's where we are now.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

The more minute these numerous "posh" descriptions become the more they're just tailored to fit whoever is being discussed, it's like making a trend out of what's actually a random person's personality.

And as I said, if you did this about Lea or Lisa it would seem ten times worse.

unforgivable torment on suzie by grace and nikki. i can't believe some of you on this thread think the grace hate is unjustified.

i notice how richard went from "if i see anyone bullying then i'll get involved" to "if i see anyone *physically* bullying...", yeah whatever.

more big ups for pete and glyn for telling grace/nikki what they thought of their actions. grace *still* just doesn't get this game does she. since when has winning it been about how good a back stabber you are?

lisa is still just a horrid little tit. needs to go next.

mikey still just a stupid sheep

imogen, where are you?

lea, gone right down in my books. goes on and on and on and on and on about how she's all 'tell people what i think of um' but alas she never does.

I haven't watched the main show for three days or so, and have been thinking maybe I'd built up Grace's demonic qualities too much in my mind. But no, I just now flick on Big Mouth and see her tell Nikki that whoever stays must be horrible to Newboobgirl for ever. She's repulsive.

Nikki not much better, but her naiveity, however faux it may be, does make her more bearable. Plus she's a fuck of a lot funnier. This is unfair of me, but it's not like these are real people or anything.

Yes, Grace hasn't 'targetted' her directly, even been more on an even keel with her. But the general vibe going round is stirring her up more.

I wonder what happens when Aisleyne does have a 'word' with Grace - she sounded like she was ready to deliver an absolute bollocking. If so, I really think Grace won't get a word in: apparently Ash from "notorious" Regent's Park Estate and ran away from crazy religious family. She's also got a sense of humour, and told the house her usual choice of man was black guys in jail (as Glyn put it).

Lisa is being sneaky - none of this would have happened if Grace had won that task. She also appears to re-stir each time the nominated pair start calming down.

BTW Nikki's teeth are fucked because of teenage anorexia problems.

Nikki and Grace also appear to be friendly to each other ever since making up after their first clash, so I think Grace might have guessed about this, or knows. are you INSANE?

susie had to nominate two people, like grace and nikki have done every week until now. HAD to. that's the game. so...

1) if nikki or grace had been the golden housemate, whop would they have nominated? would it have been okay for those nominees to then treat nikki or grace like absolute shit?

2) who would nikki and/or grace rather susie have nominated?

nikki and grace are hatin the playa, not the game, and just seem spoilt, syupid and pathetic as a result. the scene where pete and glyn pointed out how cruel the girls were being, was ace. mikey's reply, 'its just a laugh', was pathetic.

To be fair, that Suzy and Maxwell pic was from when they were both in the dry run two years ago - to produce that of evidence of a fix implies it was a fix Maxwell got selected last year.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

i couldn't give a shit if it's fixed or not, to be honest, it's still Big Brother.

Basically, whoever is selecting for this show are trying to make it easy for themselves.

Until we have the ability to change the selectors, there will be no representation of the people in the way the people represent themselves.

shake down.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

though, that said, i'm not enjoying this series as much as enjoyed previous years' shows. maybe it'll improve, but i'm not particularly attached to any of the housemates - they're all pretty unlikable. Sam was ok. Glyn is fun/funny, but i don't really LIKE him much. the rest are pretty yuck.

i care if it's fixed. i'd LOVE ch4 to get shit for this.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

As I said just now (with tongue slightly in cheek), the whole selection process is getting very stale, not the program format.

Hence the need to start with even greater numbers of contestants and the higher walk out rate.

okay, so. we need a flat, a couple of cameras and some headed notepaper. then we set up a production company and make THE REAL BIG BROTHER - the catch being that the housemates are all real people ILX0rs people we've dragged in off the street on the promise of twelve and a half minutes of fame. who's in?

(well: suzy, maxwell, grace and a zillion other fame-hungry wannabes for a start.)

This is kind of awesome:

In full: Group's task failings
Day 29, 07:52 BST - by Neil Wilkes

The housemates failed this week's 'State of Susie' task after violating the rules 33 times. The group had been allowed to incur just two fails in order to pass the task.

The rules:

1. Pledge Allegiance: Whenever the fanfare sounded, citizens had to stand in front of Susie's Statue and pledge allegiance to the State of Susie.

2. Sing Susie's Songs: The housemates were only expected to sing Susie's favourite songs - 'Living on a Prayer', 'You're Just Too Good To Be True', and 'I Like The Way You Move' by Bodyrockers. Singing any other songs constituted a fail.

3. Eat Susie's Food: Susie's favourite foods are lobster, poached salmon, and strawberries. These are the only foods which were permitted to be eaten for the duration of her reign. No other food was made available.

Rule violations on day one (Tuesday):

1) At 10:43, Nikki sang one line of an unauthorised song.

2) At 11:06, Richard sang 'Say A Little Prayer' by Aretha Franklin.

3) At 11:11, Pete sang one line from 'My Loving' by En Vogue.

4) At 11:30, Aisleyne sang "the moment I" from 'Say A Little Prayer'.

5) At 11:37, Pete sang 'Shut Up' by Black Eyed Peas.

6) At 12.09, Mikey sangs Avril Lavigne.

7) At 12.09, Pete sang 'Perfect Day'.

8) At 12.28, Glyn sang the line "are you ready?"

9) At 12:56, Mikey sang 'Earth Song' by Michael Jackson.

10) At 12.58, Pete sang the theme to 'The Pinky and the Brain' and was stopped by Mikey.

11) At 12.58, Mikey continued singing the theme to 'The Pinky and the Brain'.

12) At 13.13, Glyn sang at a passing Helicopter.

13) At 13.27, Glyn sang "oh my darling Clementine".

14) At 14:57, Imogen sang the Big Brotherhood Song.

15) At 15:00, Mikey made up a song about strawberries.

16) At 15:17, Glyn sang 'I've Got The Music In Me'.

17) At 16.42, Glyn sang 'Hey Mr Elephant', a song from his red coat days.

18) At 18.36, Nikki and Lea shared some chocolate.

19) At 18.38, Aisleyne sang "Ride the Punani".

20) At 20.31, Glyn sang 'I Want To Be With You Everywhere'.

21) At 22.42, Nikki sang 'Let's Hear it for the Boy'.

22) At 22:45, Nikki sang the Tazmanian Devil song.

23) At 23.07, Nikki sang 'Fame' whilst dancing.

24) At 23.28, Nikki sang another unauthorised song again whilst dancing.

Rule violations on day two (Wednesday):

25) At 11.36, Aisleyne sang 'Area Codes' by Ludacris.

26) At 16.12, Pete and Glyn sang the themetune to Inspector Gadget.

27) At 16.47, Lisa sang "Can I touch the sky?"

28) At 17.05, Aisleyne sang 'Prince Charming' by Adam and the Ants.

29) At 17.09, Pete sang 'The Bare Necessities' from the Jungle Book.

30) At 17.10, Aisleyne sang "Breathe in Breathe out".

31) At 17.12, Pete sang 'A Spoonful of Sugar'.

32) At 17.14, Richard ate some choocolate.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:39 (nineteen years ago)

that is genius.

9) At 12:56, Mikey sang 'Earth Song' by Michael Jackson.

10) At 12.58, Pete sang the theme to 'The Pinky and the Brain' and was stopped by Mikey.

11) At 12.58, Mikey continued singing the theme to 'The Pinky and the Brain'.

and this actually makes mikey's existence worthwhile. as does his song about strawberries.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:44 (nineteen years ago)

5) At 11:37, Pete sang 'Shut Up' by Black Eyed Peas.

on the show they made it look like this was the third and failing song, which makes it funnier, cos he was echoing them all saying 'JUST DON'T SING' when he did it.

Grace's eviction was quite awe-inspiring. Not only did she throw water over her arch-nemesis and leave them screaming at her, she stood there smiling amid a million decibels of booing in a real "so you all hate me, I don't give a shit" manner. It was like watching a gang of Millwall fans with a pony and a gak habit.

This was only partly undermined by her actual interview.

Mädchen (Madchen), Saturday, 17 June 2006 07:13 (nineteen years ago)

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 17 June 2006 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

not that I blame her for getting angry with Grace btw

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 17 June 2006 07:19 (nineteen years ago)

I knew it was over the water, but wondered why Lisa was attacking Aisleyne. Anyway DS has the answer:

Lisa had to be called into the diary room to calm down last night after getting into a heated row with Aisleyne.

The argument began when Aisleyne told Lea that she overheard one of the girls telling Grace to "do what [she] had to do" before she left, a phrase that Aisleyne interpreted as an instruction to soak Susie with water.

"We never fucking said that at all," Lisa snapped, her temper beginning to rise.

"Are you going to let me tallk?" asked Aisleyne, attempting to explain what she had heard.

"I didn't fucking tell her to do jack shit," Lisa insisted, now shouting and in physical reach of Aisleyne.

Susie begged the girls to drop the issue as it was now over, but Lisa continued to plead her innocence. "We ain't told her to fucking throw fucking cold water over her face."

"No matter if they told Grace or not, she made her own mind up," Mikey pointed out.

Richard then decided to intervene, claiming that Lisa had been "giggling" when Grace doused Susie, before performing an impression of an irate Lisa.

That appeared to be the final straw for Lisa, who picked up and threw Nikki's pink bicycle before storming into the bathroom.

"If you want to talk to me Lisa, come and talk to me," Richard told her. "Talk to me like a rational human being."

Big Brother promptly summoned Lisa to the diary room to cool off.

Grace's water throwing was pretty bad too though, and calling Aisleyne a moose was kind of immature and embarassing.

The house needs some positivity.

don't think grace's interview was honest rather than there was nothing much else she could have said to excuse herself/make it sound even slightly better

yeah yr right. she def made a fool of herself with the water throwing mainly because you could tell she instantly regretted it. what was meant to be shocking and assertive ended up just looking pathetic.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 17 June 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

Suzie handled it well with a quiet "You're certainly no lady, Grace". With Grace hissing "Neither are you you moose" back. Very very glad she's gone. Her 'plot' well had run dry - another week of schoolyard spite would have been awful.

Seems like 'fierce' is this year's fucking awful buzzword. Rad.

Lisa to go next, swiftly followed by future-cuckold Mikey and Imogen. I half-imagine that Imogen could have come out of this a whole lot better if she hadn't got involved in the Sezer-Grace axis of evil at the beginning.

It's embarrassing watching Mikey stumble into his new role as the rival alpha male to Richard, cf. when Nikki went up to him after her tantrum about him stealing her beer and he yelled NO I'M TALKING TO SOMEONE ELSE, YOU HAVE TO WAIT. And his SHUT THE FUCKING FUCK UP at Aislene when she (rightly) shouted at Grace post-water throw. Compare with Glyn growing up and becoming a man right before our very eyes.

Seen it now, Grace's water throw wasn't as magnificent as it coulda shoulda been but she did well enough - more evictees should deliver such final blows instead of all the phoney bonhomie that goes on.

If there is a more preening, self-satisfied dick-head than Richard on the planet I'll be amazed. What a complete fucking clown Mr Sensible made himself out to be.

Yay Imogen in the diary room!

Isn't it glorious! Such a delightful complementary viewing to the rest of the goings on, ie all the hissy fits and arguments.

Ste (Fuzzy), Sunday, 18 June 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

The eviction of Lisa could well be sooner than Friday, according to DS she's admitted doing the shite that was found under Richard's bed.

Oh, and Grace's Mother has formally complained over the treatment by Davina of her daughter:

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 18 June 2006 08:11 (nineteen years ago)

HAHAHA! The complaint will be for asking precious baby about the blow job LIVE which isn't on, but Grace handled that well enough herself. Random bits of information provided by the tabloids include this one gem: Mariella Frostrup is her godmother.

What did Imo do that was so funny in the diary room?

suzy (suzy), Sunday, 18 June 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

i kept waiting for one of the Big Brother drones, when Lisa was in the diary room accusing richard of picking on her and lying to her, to point out that lisa was lying, was lying when caught on a lie, and threw a tantrum when she had been caught out. and they never did - such a missed opportunity, along with the kid-gloves post-eviction interview.

i thought richard was AWESOME when he started squealing back at Lisa, less awesome when he kept going ON and ON about it. ashleen fucking rocks. imogen is just pathetic, mikey is worse - grace really fucked them all over with the glass-of-water action, and telling them about it. and Lisa just needs to go now.

what i DO find funny is that that lot spend all their time backbiting about the 'weirdos' in the house, mostly accusing them of exactly the stuff they themselves are doing (this is probably obvious to everyone else but kinda revelatory to me).

pete rools.

the hilarious part was, there was a delay between grace getting to the door, and it opening, and she was stuck there lamely deflecting (am i bovvered?) the fracas she'd started. you could see a look of ABSOLUTE FUCKING BATSHIT PANIC in her eyes, and for a moment i wondered whether big brother was actually going to keep her in the house for another week, as some kind of massive headfuck, and she would have had to live with the consequences of her actions.

Richard found something under his bed which he thinks is shite. BB looking at it to determine whether it's a) mud, b) something like a manky bit of chocolate cake (since we know Nikki's hoarding food in the bedroom) or c) actual shite.

Since he spoke to BB, Lisa has apparently twice admitted it's c) actual shite and it was c) actually her.

Is it anorexia fluff maybe? I can't say I've noticed it on TV. She does intrigue me. When Mikey called her "spoilt" during her beer bottle tantrum the other day, Lea called him in on it and said she'd never been spoiled in all her life, in a way that suggested she'd talked to Lea about her upbringing. I do wonder how she ended up like that.

Right, so this week:

Lisa and Glyn were caught discussing noms, in an indirect fashion,so both get banned?

Davina talked about "Monday, they will be punished"...

so, maybe a more novel and interesting punishment.

In any case, Lisa will probably go this week, I reckon.

Imogen getting slightly more interesting? I find her voice quite 'nails on blackboard' but I don't think it's the welsh accent (I've known a few Welsh people with lovely voices, and it's one of the accents Dawn can do perfectly)

**For immediate release***

FIVE HOUSEMATES FACE PUNISHMENT - AND HAVE TO NOMINATE EACH OTHER FOR EVICTION

***Live on E4, Monday 19 June at 2.00pm***

At 2.00pm today, Big Brother will call ALL the housemates into the lounge for this week's nominations. Big Brother will remind them all that is against the rules for housemates to discuss their nominations with each other, and that any attempt to break these rules is taken very seriously.

Glyn, Imogen, Lea , Lisa and Nikki will be admonished by Big Brother for rule-breaking last week. They will not be allowed to nominate in the normal way. Instead, they will all be faced with a choice that they must make on the spot, in front of the group. They must not discuss their choice in any way and it must be their own decision.

Each of the five will be asked to choose one of their four fellow rule-breakers to face the public vote. The housemate/s with the most votes will definitely face the public vote this week. The rule-breakers cannot choose themselves and refusal to nominate will result in punishment.

The rest of the housemates - Aisleyne, Mikey, Pete, Richard and Susie - will then be called into the Diary Room to nominate in the usual manner, choosing the two people they want to face the public vote. The housemate/s who have already been nominated by the rule-breakers to face the public vote cannot be nominated again by the others in the Diary Room. All other housemates are eligible for nomination. The two or more housemates who receive the most votes in the Diary Room will join the rule-breaker/s to face eviction on Friday 23 June.

Notes to Editors:
" The results of the rule-breakers' nominations will be revealed to the house live after 2pm today.
" The results of the Diary Room nominations will be revealed on Big Brother's Little Brother tomorrow (Tuesday 20 June) at 7.30pm on E4.
" Voting lines will open during Big Brother's Little Brother tomorrow night.

Glyn, Imogen, Lea , Lisa and Nikki

Glyn wd nom: Nikki
Imogen wd nom Nikki
Lea wd nom Nikki
Lisa wd nom Lea
Nikki wd not nom, she'd go off on one and say "GO ON THEN PUNISH ME I DONT CARE!!!"

So, Nikki and Lea.

Aisleyne nom Lisa and Mikey
Mikey nom Aisl and Lisa
Pete nom Susie and Richard
Richard nom Lisa and Mikey
Susie nom Lisa and Mikey.

So, Nikki, Lea, Mikey and Lisa, I reckon.

That was complicated....

Latest pic from house.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 June 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

After some clarification to some confused housemates, Glyn was the first to take the stand, apologetically voting for Nikki, who promptly burst into tears. Next up was Imogen who cast her nomination on Lea, who then hesitantly returned the favour. Lisa sealed Nikki's fate by doling out her choice, with a distraught Nikki voting for the Mancunian.

The law-abiding housemates were then allowed to nominate privately in the Diary Room, able to vote for anyone apart from Nikki. The two most-nominated, to be revealed on tomorrow's Big Brother's Little Brother, will join the disgraced model in the public vote.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 June 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

I still reckon Nikki, Mikey and Lisa.

Lisa will most probably go, so who knows after that...?!!

probably Richard season.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 June 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

I still reckon Nikki, Mikey and Lisa.
Lisa will most probably go,

Yeah, my guess too.

Richard's had a lucky escape this week

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 19 June 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

I'm slightly suprised at this. Last night's coverage seemed geared towards making Lisa look okay. I'm wondering if we'll see more of a hatchet job emerging on Richard's little gang (quite possibly on Richard himself) so that the split in the house can be maintained. If all the Imogen-ettes go they will be in danger of people getting on.

That interview on friday was one of the rudest I've seen Davina do for a while, both verbally and non-verbally. She generally covers it better than that when she dislikes someone. Grace didn't seem to show any redeeming features. That "honesty" seemed more like "I've hurt people, I don't give a shit", which isn't really the same thing at all. Those who said her nastiness was lack of self-awareness may have been too generous.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

i thought grace did brilliantly on the interview -- one of the better ones. of *course* davina didn't like her; they're similar types. all this hurting feelings stuff is balls. it's television.

Davina's interview 'nasty'?

There's no pleasing folk. I thought she at least asked the right questions and gave her the option of bluffin or 'fessin.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, not nasty.. just a bit rude. Usually she's all over people when they come out. I liked the fact that she wasn't in this case.

-- Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (miltonpinsk...), June 19th, 2006.

She certainly deflected the questions as well as she could have done. I guess it depends what you want to see in that interview. It made me wonder why I watch them, really. I realised there is a part of me that wants to see people like Grace say "oh no.... I was horrible wasn't I? I'm so sorry. I'm going to be nice for ever now". That clearly isn't going to happen. I'm not sure why I want it to.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

I don't see the "she was horrible"/"no she wasn't" argument going very far but in my book stirring up animosity and intentionally picking on people's vulnerabilities in order to make them feel insecure = pretty horrible.

hobart, ALL of them are at it in there with the headfuckery and sniping. Grace just seems to know more ADJECTIVES than some of the others.

Actually, my theory is that Davina was trying to chum Grace along - see the whole ridiculous exchange about shoes. PLEASE NOTE when a girl compliments another girl on shoes, the subtext is pretty easily followed. This one went: D compliments G, G accepts but says shoes are unattainable, D carries on, G says no REALLY unobtainable = G doesn't much care for D but tolerance, easy. D looks less alpha, more trying-to-please than G.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

uh, I thought it was much more like:

davina asked where she got them, grace told her belgium, davina said about people having nice things and you ask where they got them and they say "new york, darling" and grace seemed a bit (more) embarrassed/eager to please and said "no, you CAN get them (without much trouble)!" and something about them being on sale

PLEASE NOTE when a girl compliments another girl on shoes, the subtext is pretty easily followed.

is a v depressing thought

RJG (RJG), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

I always suspected I was really bad at being a girl, and this just confirms it.

Meanwhile, Nikki has indeed gone off on one.

Basically, if Lisa had nominated Glyn, they'd all have been up. But she voted Nikki. So, Nikki's started on Lisa. And Lisa is trying hard to turn the other cheek. OK, that's not true.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

lisa got grace evicted, too, by taking the immunity-from-nomination in the standing-on-box task

RJG (RJG), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

RJG is right to notice what Lisa is up to.

Grace was not self-effacing about boots, she was all 'they're great but sadly unattainable by you' - it is exactly the same thing that boys obsessed with limited edition singles do to other boys, but with shoes.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 19 June 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

Basically, if Lisa had nominated Glyn, they'd all have been up. But she voted Nikki.

True. But would Nikki have nominated Lisa in those circumstances?

Oh Gawd I read that Wiki entry.

Best bit of trivia: Mickey is half Iranian. His Iranian mum is going to kick the shit out of him for his Loaded-reader audition reel.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 19 June 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

because all iranians are like that.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 19 June 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

None of the Iranian women I know would tolerate that! For a start, if she was a Shah supporter he would say he was half-Persian, so yeah, you can read a lot into how people choose to describe themselves. See Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi (I've interviewed her and we talked about this stuff for ages so don't try it).

suzy (suzy), Monday, 19 June 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

oh i wouldn't dare try question your ability to sum up the entire iranian womanhood especially since you know Marjane Satrapi (how did i know you would try to get a connection into that reply). Marjane Satrapi, i'm sure, speaks for all iranian women on the big brother question while suzy speaks for all women on the cowboy boot question.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 19 June 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

jed_ (jed), Monday, 19 June 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

PLEASE NOTE when a girl compliments another girl on shoes, the subtext is pretty easily followed. This one went: D compliments G, G accepts but says shoes are unattainable, D carries on, G says no REALLY unobtainable = G doesn't much care for D but tolerance, easy. D looks less alpha, more trying-to-please than G.

-- suzy (theartskooldisk...), June 19th, 2006.

"pretty easily followed"... suzy, I think you could spend a whole thread just trying to make me understand this one. (okay, I get the example, that's a start).

Actually, the boot thing did seem like a token nice comment in amongst all the rest. Which I suppose is what you were saying, just in a way that is somewhat beyond me.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 19 June 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

Tonight's should have been boring, but was actually rather pleasant, like listening to some non-descript classical music after a solid week of death metal. Of course, if they don't stir it up some more soon, boring will just be boring.

Oh my, I was thinking exactly the same when I watched it too. Poor kid.

I really liked Glyn's "what gives one person the right to make another persons life hell" comment about bullying.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 07:48 (nineteen years ago)

Pete and Aisleyne will be next to form a couple, according to the girls.

...

Nikki doesn't believe that Pete is Aisleyne's first choice, however. "When she first got here, she fancied Mikey but realised that she didn't have a leg to stand on," she theorised. "And that's why she hated Sezer, because Sezer was so not interested. So she moved on to Pete."

Bemused by the girly gossip, Mikey enquired: "Is this the normal kind of shit that girls chat about then?"

"Text messages can keep us occupied for hours," Nikki confirmed.

suzy?

Mikey and Imogen: who's have thought it?

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

Eric Hall is a big old mess on BBBM at the moment. Is he drunk or something worse?

Imogen & Mikey about to get it on! Maybe, just maybe they'll bring out the nicer side of each other. They're both dull as mud but I can see them being a likeable couple - much better than being Sezer/Grace's lapdogs.

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

Eric's had a stroke, hasn't he?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

Nikki might not be that safe. I can see this being those who like Nikki vs. those who don't. In fact, she has virtually guaranteed this is the case. And those who like her seem to be split pretty evenly between the relatively inoffensive, from what I can tell, Imogen and LISAAARGH.

Even so, prob. Imogen. Waddya reckon? I'm not really so bothered. I don't like or dislike any of them that strongly.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Russell Brand is right.. "I AM NOT SUCKING FUCKING ARSEHOLES" is a fine catchphrase. Whether Nikki will still think so after five years of people shouting it at her in the street is another matter.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

This is a 'before nominations' poll result, but the anti-Lisa vote seems overwhelming.

I dunno, Lisa seemed suddenly human this week after the 'drop noms'. half pissed off with Nikki's over-reaction, half genuinely trying to make it up to her. Also recoginising that Nikki'll probably stay in due to having a 'wicked personality'.

I imagine Lisa is favourite to go, but CH4 seem to be showing her more favourably at the moment, and whilst Nikki is funny, she is also a touch tiresome.

Best reason Imogen should stay - her and Mikey. Let it blossom to the level of bedroom activity they shared with Sezer/Grace then evict them, for maximum fireworks on final night when they're all together. this is interesting - there were several comments at the start of the show that this was the smallest house so far, that there was less living area than before. given that the actual buildings haven't shrunk i'm guessing that the main living areas are so small because there are a lot of hidden rooms...
