Nominate New Moderators for ILE/ILX 2.0

Message Bookmarked

It appears that we will not only have a new ILX in a few weeks, but that admins will not be carrying over. I don't know if it's because of all the in-fighting that's been going on, but maybe this would
be a good opportunity for everyone to nominate a few neutral, well-respected members of our community.

my picks:

Pashmina (obviously)
Stet (for all his hard work)

Nathalie (fair and kind)
Ed (thoughtful)
Kate MasonicBooms (seems to be online alot)
Ronan (a noble Irishman)
Chaki (but I think he already moderates Ask Chaki?)
Ned Raggett (well coiffed, and a friend to all)
[this list is by no means exhaustive]

I think that the inner circle of donors should have some say in who polices the site, and that those chosen do so fairly.

You're still listed as an ILM moderator!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

I am?

I couldn't see the administer board link last time I went there. Anyhow, I guess it'd really be superflous for me to be an admin here or there or anywhere, as I would not take any sort of decisive action ever. Though, I can't be sure of that.

Oh yeah, so I am still an ILM mod.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 9 November 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Shouldn't it be up to our new overlords to decide this sort of thing? There are several people mentioned already I'd veto on various grounds (not even including the obvious WTF ones) if it were up to me, but, y'know, it isn't?

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 9 November 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

If anything the decision is based on a few simple things really: people who are available a lot of the(ir) day, people who are evenhanded and consistent, and most of all a balanced spread of people geographically to cover all time zones. We voted Jim in because when us rooshaggers are awake, no one else much is and things were going haywire - Jim's had to do a lot of mod work in recent months.

I think we've got a pretty decent spread of people now on ILE. I can't speak for ILM, thats a whole kettle of metaphors I'm going nowhere near =)

PJMiller

KeefW (kmw), Sunday, 12 November 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

is this being discussed for real? I've got no problems with retiring but I do thing that the current crop of mods should stay on until the month following the transfer to the new system, just for a little extra stability.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 12 November 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

is this being discussed for real?

if it is, it's time to stick an "admin" banner on this thread and make it official, surely?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 12 November 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

all stet meant was that admin privileges would have to be manually re-applied to the current mods once the switch was complete.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Sunday, 12 November 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

Indeed. There's nothing wrong with the current mods, and if one or several of them wanted to quit they'd know how to fill up that time zone amongst themselves until they find someone new. This popularity contest is just a bit of, er, fun

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 12 November 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

okay. sorry, i'm just back on ILX after more than a week away, and one or two of the names that have been bandied about on this thread gave me THE FUCKING FEAR, and no mistake :)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 12 November 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

Yep, that's what I said. Yet no-one seems to have noticed, or is still just using it as yet another excuse for circle-jerking.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 12 November 2006 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

I vote for the kitten in the pint glass, too.

:-((((( I'm not THAT bad. ;-)

paranoia is not an admirable trait in a wannabe mod! ;) ;)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 13 November 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

ROFL. I know, but maybe I know that the devil in me lurks. ;-)

I definitely vote for Dan. I still kick myself for not having met him a few years ago.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Monday, 13 November 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

dan has retired his mod ways.

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Monday, 13 November 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

Why are people still voting for anyone? This thread was started by *wrinklepaws*, FFS, and Stet has already said the old mods will be staying. Are we plotting some kind of not-very-secret coup now?

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 13 November 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

Ailsa hates wrinklepaws fun

There's that paranoia again, Nath :-)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

BItch, you're in fucking denial. If *I* will be mod, your ass is OUTA here.

Woops.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Cool! I vote Nath. Oh, wait....

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

i know i've quit ilx, but I can't believe nobody's nominated me!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

I'd second Nath, Ed and Ned; not sure about Chaki or Ronan; and the other one would be an utter disaster.

I'd suggest Suzy, Dr C and Anthony.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

i hope they never fix the statscock - i don't want to be reminded of how much time i spend here

As far as I remember, the old statscock never registered how much time I spent scrolling through threads, shaking my head and not posting.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

i hope there was some slow jazz playing while you did that.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

Ned is already a moderator on I Love Music!
I think Dan P was brilliant as a moderator, but I don't think he enjoyed it very much.

I think the best thing would be to continue w/the ppl we have now, less those who want to retire, and add new moderators if they're needed. Certainly there's a lot less to do since locking unregistered posters killed the spam problem, or so it seems to me, anyway.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

FWIW, I think Nath would be good, if it becomes necessary. But only if she doesn't ban me

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

can we have celebrity mods on special occasions?

i nominate brian blessed for our christmas bumper special week

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

xpost: Huggelz!

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Monday, 13 November 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

can we have celebrity mods on special occasions?

i nominate brian blessed for our christmas bumper special week

i think on a Sunday every year, the whole board should have a vote to see who the special guest moderator would be for a specific thread, out of a choice of 3. The day will be forever known as Cyber Sunday (or Taboo Tuesday before 2006)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 November 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

okay i really want Phillip Schofield to moderate a thread titled "Seriously, are women just as fucking useless as religion?"

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 13 November 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

I accept your nomination and I appreciate that I was your number 1 choice.

the Adversary (but, still, a friend of yours) (Uri Frendimein), Monday, 13 November 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think Dan P was brilliant as a moderator, but I don't think he enjoyed it very much.

Thank you! This is mostly true; I quit being a moderator because I felt myself being on the verge of Crossing The Line and I didn't want to be That Moderator. The main reason why I would not become a moderator again is because I recently got a promotion which pretty much guarantees that my ILX presence is going to be slim-to-none during the work week. (Also given half the chance I would try to truncate the ILX database.)

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 November 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

Congratulations on the promotion! Perry '08 getting within reach!

StanM (StanM), Monday, 13 November 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)
