Your housemates thus far are:
Jermaine Jackson. No-one knows who he is. He seemed a bit miffed by this.Danielle Lloyd. Girlfriend of Woah Teddy Teddy, Teddy Teddy Teddy Teddy Sheringham. Beauty queen. Model. Likes shopping.Ken Russell. Bonkers.Jo O'Meara. The one that no-one fancies out of S Club 7. She seems very pleasant and friendly.Leo Sayer. Seems to be friends with everyone in the world. He's very chirpy.Shilpa Shetty. Big in Bollywood.Carole Malone. She slags off z-list reality celebrities in the Daily Mirror. Now she is one. She thinks she'll be subversive. She probably won't.Donny Tourette. He's a punk like Preston was a mod (i.e. bought a couple of appropriate outfits and read a beginner's guide to cartoon punkery, I reckon). He's also pals with Leo Sayer, so not as cool as he thinks he is.H from Steps. He's gay. And Welsh. Most likely to do a Les Dennis.Cleo Rocos. She has breasts. And impossible hair. Dirk Benedict. It's Templeton Peck, nostalgia fans. He's trying too hard to be liked. He talks A LOT.
Nothing much has happened thus far. Danielle has seen Ken Russell's genitalia. She wasn't impressed.

First to get booted out = Shilpa Shetty (I think she might turn out to be the drama queen who whines about everything)
followed by :
Jermaine Jackson (he might turn all shouty and try to bully people)
Ian 'H' Watkins (he will not be as mad as he used to pretend to be in Steps, and will get voted off for being boring)
Carol Malone (will be the bitchy one)
Ken Russell (will be the John McCririck one)
Dirk Benedict (will be the nice but dull one)
Danielle Lloyd (people will get fed up with her empty-headedness, unless she gets her tits out in which case she might get to stay)
Leo Sayer (he'll be well liked, although he will release a new single immediately after he gets out so people might want to keep him in a bit longer)
Cleo Rochus (she'll be the mother figure, but will also prove to be quite surprisingly intelligent and entertaining. May also get her tits out a few times)
This will leave Jo O'Meara and Donny Tourette for the final. Jo will stay this long because she'll turn out to be genuinely nice, the peace-keeper and agony-aunt of the house, and she can probably cook and doesn't mind cleaning up after everyone else. Donny will stay because the Great British Public will warm to him once he packs in his blustering pretending-to-be-an-out-of-control-arse act. Donny will win.
Jo O'Meara 4 - 1
Cleo Rochus 8 - 1
Donny Tourette 18 - 1

I was mystified by his weirdly feminine body until I found out that he is 61. I thought he was about 50.
It also surprised me to discover, while researching his weirdly feminine body, that he claims to have cured his own cancer by "diet, exercise and fasting". This was when he was 36, in 1981, two years before the A-Team. Lives can be very long.

The singer's article on encyclopedia Wikipedia was altered moments after he was introduced to the new house, with the author perhaps taking the story one step too far.
"Leo was the fifth person to join the Celebrity Big Brother house... Upon entering the house, he was electrocuted and died," read the entry.
However, a Wikipedia spokesman has dismissed the alteration as a normal occurrence, commenting: "Leo's entry was changed several times the night he entered the house. This is fairly standard when someone comes into the public eye - people make changes, accurate or otherwise."
Oh, and guess who's been caught on camera singing "Frigging in the rigging"..?

This isn't working, is it? Separating the house and putting up artificial divisions is pathetic. I can see why they do it in the summer show which last forever and where people have a greater desire to be famous and as such as are willing to sacrifice dignity. But the great thing about CBB is to see how various people's public perception stands up in reality. Forcing artificial positions upon them is just pointless. I've no real problem with them flinging Jade, Jack and Jackiey in there, but they should be in there on equal terms.

Sadly OTM, this series seems to be a bit of a fuck-up from square one. I really hope they realise this very soon and make a huge effort to turn it around.

This year would have been fine, but it's a bad mistake having Jade back. It's not even because of her herself, just the 'everyone become servants to Jade' is one bad bad bad misfire.

Also, I was wondering about nominations. When they get past this first nomination (I would gladly vote for Jade, Jack, Jermaine and Shilpa multiple times if I thought it would guarantee that Jackiey would go) how is it going to work? They aren't spending enough time to be able to nominate outside their side of the house, meaning that the poshos are pretty much safe. WTF is the point of flying Shilpa and Jermaine halfway round the world just to stop them from interacting normally with everyone else? They both seem like they would be happy to get stuck in with the other original housemates. (I think Jade and Jack probably would too)

Also, the voting of who you want to "save" is the inverse of the norml voting practice as celebs get very uncomfortale with the idea of actively being disliked, as opposed to being "loved, but just a little less than the next celeb".

http://vote.sparklit.com/poll.spark/1024323Who would you like to save on Wednesday?Jack 5% Jackiey 6% Jade 17% Jermaine 16% Ken 5% Shilpa 51%
.. the level of love for Shilpa!
Ken's total was stopped when he left, naturally, but he's still more saveable than Jack. Cue lots of Jade crying and a big bustup with mum. Unless Jack does something to well anything really!

I think my crush on him from the early eighties may be resurfacing. Although it is hard to have a crush on anyone in the BB house, because of all the time they spend looking like they would on your sofa, watching Football Focus. Ruins the mystique.

"I'm leaving the House guys cos Big Brother won't provide me with underwear," he announced.
"Oh, don't be daft," said Carole. "No I'm going for the door, I'm outta here."
"He's not going," said Jade
"Oh don't," repeated Cleo.
"You can have some of mine," offered Dirk helpfully.
But like all the best divas, Leo was already two steps into his dramatic exit. "F*** this," he huffed and started beating his fist on a two-way mirror.
"Don't do anything rash," said Dirk
"I'm not," said Leo, grabbing a broom from the kitchen and forcing his way through one of the walls.
"He's gone!" said Ian.
"Everyone's going mad in here," nodded Jo.
"I can't believe he's gone!" said a shocked Danielle.
But he has, Danielle. Well, he did once write a song called 'Running To My Freedom'...

I don't know what this means.
You know, I'm watching last night's show now, and it does seem like Jermaine Jackson and Dirk Benedict could actually end up friends. You can kind of tell that Shilpa doesn't spend a lot of time around pissed people. She just doesn't know how to deal with them.
― accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 15 January 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)
(c) Carole Malone I mean. So much for raising her profile. I see the 'TRUTH ABOUT BIG BROTHER' was in the Sunday Mirror. Basically, that Jermaine may walk, and Cleo will win.
Although Leo is convinced the whole show is a FIX and that the producers have SORTED IT so that JADE will WIN!!! not that he's PARANOID or anything..
(potential typo just fixed in time: "Leo is convinced the whole show is a FAX.." )
xpost explanation: Getting on a high horse is not high enough, climbs a tree so as to come down harder onto someone etc..)

Monday 15 JanuaryDay 13, 14:51There's a surprise in store for the dolled up housemates...
When is a red carpet event, not really a red carpet event? Answer: when the red carpet is covered in sticky gunk that will foil your every step.
Right now, the housemates are getting changed into some terribly snazzy evening wear provided by Big Brother for their latest task - vaguely described as a 'red carpet event'. Yum yum: cocktails and caviar. Or so you'd think...
What the Celebs don't know is they're set to run the gauntlet of Big Brother's Red Carpet assault course. That means negotiating their way through a terrifying gunge-fest in the garden. No cocktails. No caviar.
"Once you're on the red carpet then what happens, do you just stand there?" wondered Jade while squeezing into a black cocktail dress.
"Maybe we're going to meet a new housemate," suggested Jo.
"I think this is bidding goodbye," said Shilpa glumly
All wrong. Here's what the housemates will really be getting up to in order to bag a luxury shopping budget this week...
1 Limo - Housemates must all wait in a limousine, ready to run the Red Carpet.
2 VIP Pit - Housemates must first negotiate their way through the perils of the gunge-filled VIP Pit, ducking through the hoops as they go.
3 Champagne Fountain - Housemates must make their way over the champagne fountain being sprayed with sticky water all the way.
4 Shower Of Awards - Housemates must collect a trophy from the lectern by unscrewing it, all the time being gunged from above.
5 Crawl Of Fame - Housemates must crawl through the sticky Hollywood crawl of fame gunge trap.
6 Fan Frenzy - Housemates must stop for autographs by the paparazzi where they'll be squirted with gunge from the camera lenses.
7 Photo Opportunity - At the end of the Red Carpet housemates must pose for pictures with their trophy before the next housemate makes their run.
The group have nine minutes to complete the whole thing - and they're getting ready by applying a ton of make-up and blow-drying their hair.
Well that's gonna be a waste of time...

i think so. i'm at a loss too.
i mean, given that all these people are "celebrities" - ie individuals who live their lives to some extent in the public eye - and must be aware, even at the vaguest jade-brain level, that they are being filmed 24/7 and that their image (take that how you will) is being beamed around the UK, i imagine that they're not, y'know, KEEPING IT FUCKING REAL all day long.
and given that we all project an image of ourselves to whoever we're with, and subtly change facets of our behaviour to suit, find me one person who, genuinely, KEEPS IT FUCKING REAL all day and i'll show you some kind of sociopath.
i have no idea what "fake" means in this context. i really don't. shilpa isn't a slack-jawed intelligence vacuum who opens their mouth and lets the slow hiss of their decomposing brain pass for speech? she isn't TELLING IT LIKE IT IS, like danielle/jo/jade and the thousands upon thousands of other quarter-wits who've never quite worked out that not being a self-obsessed, self-centred, small-minded, bigoted, bullying bastard is actually, y'know, a sign of civilised intelligence?
well, no, she isn't. but, on this evidence, i fail to see how that's a bad thing at all.
― grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 15 January 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)
I think it basically means that they suspect her of being two-faced, that she is being pleasant to them to their faces but secretly despises them because she thinks she is better than they are. Possibly she does, but it's more likely that they only think that because she's got a posh accent and laughs at the way they talk.
― accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 15 January 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)
either way, sorry for the rant. i just find "fake" such a pathetic insult. as someone sagely pointed out upthread/in every BB thread ever, moderating our behaviour and disguising what we really think in a situation is what keeps us vaguely civilised.
― grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 15 January 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

― accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 00:10 (eighteen years ago)
And Danielle seems to be utterly consumed with jealousy over Shilpa, she seems to occupy her every waking thought. You could see it on her face the instant they first met - Danielle assumed she'd be the best looking girl in there, then in walks Shilpa - "not only is she better looking than me, but my god, she's an INDIAN!" Hopefully their first meeting on the first night is on youtube somewhere. You should check it out, it's written all over her face.

The thing that annoys me most is that I have this suspicion that elsewhere in the house, fun conversations where Cleo recounts yet more tales of what Kenny Everett used to get up to are going on, and we are missing them in order to focus on Mallory Towers, the Slapper Years.

the rambling eskimo question was loltastic. cleo's response to her answer was spot on.

1. She is being called "the Indian", because she is from India, therefore she is Indian.(If we called Jade a Chav, would that be racist?)
2. She is being ganged up upon because she is a behaving like an upper class, spoilt person.
Sick and tired of people using the word "racist" without due cause.

"Last night, the trio's emnity against Shilpa exploded because Shetty a) went and lay down on her bed, b) put on her fairy wings because she was depressed and c) wanted to cook the chicken for 45 minutes. That's it. I didn't see any racism when I watched last night, just a trio of complete bitches making life thoroughly unpleasant for someone else."

the guardian increasingly just raids user comments and passes them off as content. the one i was reading last night had 3 pages of meta about (lack of) flaming on art criticism blogs. the bbc too. if i wanted to spend my time reading messageboard post, oh, wait...
(that said, the message board page in family section on saturdays is usually the most interesting bit. also notes and queries, which i never see anymore)

OTM reply from someone called ThePoetsThumb on guardian comment site: i agree with everything this says:
Last night's highlights of BB were just about the most uncomfortable ever broadcast. Shilpa Shetty is being systematically bullied, and race has been used as a defining feature of the abuse and isolation she has had to endure. That is racism. Other bloggers would do well to realise that and stop equivocating. I'm pleased to see that there is such an avalanche of protest at this stage, but if it does not have a direct effect on events in the house, Endemol will prove once and for all that their sense of responsibility towards participating housemates is completely redundant. I hope that Jade, Jack, Danielle and Jo face an unadulterated world of shit when they come out. They deserve nothing else.

my point still stands: there's a snide low-level racism at work here. i'm not sure it's as simple as "shilpa is indian, therefore we don't like her"; it seems more like "we don't like shilpa, therefore we'll use her race against her".

Well then he's an idiot as well.
Part of the reason the other three didn't do anything is because they're incredibly lazy, and also they are now in the bullying cycle, but another part is that it doesn't matter what they say to Shilpa, she will not do what they say or ask. If they had told her not to tip it down the toilet, she would have done it anyway, only faster.
I am relieved that Germaine Greer can also see how annoying she is.

"She is an actress" is not the same as "she is well versed in manipulation by method of appearing victimised and unloved"
Yeah, in the way of 'concentrating on irrelevant details' or 'being removed from the concerns of the common man' and so on.
But that's just as true of anyone.
Jackiey was a case in point. She really liked and looked up to Shilpa (calling her 'princess' all that), but as soon as she got a hint that the princess did not want to be put on a pedestal, and misread that as dislike, the love turned to hate as strongly.

It doesn't, when you select two words from an entire sentence, but "She also knows that if she infuriates people enough, their innate racism will spew forth." does. Greer is saying that Shilpa knows there is innate racism there and is deliberately bringing it to the fore. When your innate racism comes to the fore that makes you appear racist. Greer is intimating that Shilpa is "asking for it" in order to gain victim points.

But it's a funny old world, to be sure. You can call her a "dog". Sexism is fine. What you mustn't do is call her a "Paki". As if to be Pakistani was to be worse than being a dog. Our very tenderness on this issue is the flip side of racism, and still part of the same coin. If you call me an Aussie you don't insult me because Aussieness is OK. Pakiness is evidently not OK.
This is an astonishingly confused argument.

That's her writing, that is...
― mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 11:51 (eighteen years ago)
As each limerick came to a natural end, another one was started and the more they drank, the more inappropriate their rhymes became.
"There was a young man from Kentucky," Jo began. "Who really liked to..." Ahem, yes thank you Jade! "He used to fly around the room," Jack carried on. "On the back of a broom," Cleo added. "And fart to give it power," Danielle threw in.
"Erm, I don't think you get the gist of it," Cleo said tactfully.
"I'm thick," Danielle announced, to which Cleo quickly replied: "You're not thick!"
You just can't make up rhymes Danielle, that's all!

She doesn't want to be nominated. She's being extremely manipulative. She even said to Jack that she loved him after he spewed forth yet more barely articulate bile re Shilpa on the live feed last night.
Horrible woman.

If you're sitting there feeling like the world is looking down on you, then you're not going to take it well when someone as poised as Shilpa is gliding around, looking bemused at your uncouthness. Then when an argument kicks off, if the other person is letting you scream and shout and has that "I'm just going to let this wash over me, I'm above being engaged in this level of argument" stance, then of course that is going to escalate your anger significantly. Then when the person finally does fight back and hits such raw nerves as your way of speaking and your station as a celebrity, well, yikes.
Jade is not stupid. In the diary room earlier on, she was perceptive enough to realise that cultural differences in speech and gestural styles lay beind some of the problems she and Shilpa had with each other, her abrupt manner born of her "common" upbringing being interpreted as aggressive by Shilpa. But in the end, the resentment and anger got the better of her.
I still have some sympathy with Jade, despite all the obnoxiousness of her performance tonight. She strikes me as someone who has major issues to deal with, and that for a long time in the house, she was really struggling to do the right thing. Even in the aftermath of the argument, however misguided she was, you could see she was going through it all in her head, trying to be sure that she was justified. It wasn't about malice, or about picking on a weak target (in her head, Shilpa has all the power, she has everything and was born with it) which is why I think it's unhelpful to call it bullying.
The other two, meanwhile (Jo and Danielle, especially the latter, again) just seemed to be treating it as a joke. Even Jade broke ranks with them to say "I'm not laughing". They don't seem to care about doing the right thing, just about getting one over on Shilpa. That to me is more unforgivable. Danielle is a silly little girl who doesn't seem to bother to have questioned the casual racism she has picked up from somewhere. BB belatedly challenging her in the diary room was a treat.
My heart was really racing at some parts of today's show. It was awful to watch. At one point I felt like throwing the towel in and finally joining those who say it's worthless car crash TV. But in the end, I still think it throws certain things about people and this country into a fascinating light. I've certainly thought a lot more about what it means to be racist in recent days.

― Bob Six (bobbysix), Thursday, 18 January 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)
To understate wildly.
Yu'd have to be the Buddha of Infinite Compassion to still have some sympathy for Jade.
The way she kept going on and on in the argument, and escalating her attacks indicates to me that it was about malice.
― Bob Six (bobbysix), Thursday, 18 January 2007 00:09 (eighteen years ago)
Well observed Alba. I'd go with it. I've been yo-yoing on the whole racism thing ever since I finally started watching the show. But there's still a cultural prejudice resonating from all three of them.
― vita susicivus (blueski), Thursday, 18 January 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)
As for my point about Jade's perception of power, which you don't buy, at least twice in Jade's ranting, she identified herself with Shilpa's poorer fans in India, saying how indignant she felt at "Princess Shilpa" taking a pop-shot at the elocution of common people like her. I think it's very clear that she sees Shilpa as a mirror of the kind of hoity-toity figures who look down on Jade in this country.

Goody doesn't like being upstaged and her outburst was a result of simply lacking the linguistic/intellectual tools to deal with someone like Shilpa. I do fear that Shilpa's skin colour/country of birth is a much bigger bugbear for Lloyd and O'Meara.

nick, that's an interesting, incisive post and i agree with a lot of what you say. it's made me think a lot about racism and the perception thereof too: probably not in blinding new ways, but i think it's solidified certain things in my mind, and certainly made me aware of how easily people can slip into an almost subconscious racism once their own cultural security is threatened. it's a simple refuge for the intellectually stunted, and that, i think, is what we're seeing here. C4's copout statement this afternoon (ie there's been no "overt" racism) misses the point: most racism isn't overt.
It wasn't about malice, or about picking on a weak target (in her head, Shilpa has all the power, she has everything and was born with it) which is why I think it's unhelpful to call it bullying.
i disagree. isn't a lot of playground bullying motivated by jealousy on behalf of the bullies? i went to a "posh" school in a uniform: therefore i was perceived by the kids from the school down the road as a snob and a ponce. i was lucky and didn't suffer with it at all; friends who took different buses or lived in different areas weren't so fortunate. if someone's battering you at the bus stop every day for being "posh" or "up yourself", that's somehow not bullying? hmmm. it's the same here: shilpa can't so much as move without the arse triplets giving her grief.
and i think there was plenty of malice there. it might not have been purely malicious, but woah, malice was hugely present. jade has, i suppose, "anger issues" - her explosive fury and inability to let go of the subject are testament to that - and should seek to deal with them.
i guess you're a far nicer person than i am, nick, and you're willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. me: i think she's willfully ignorant and almost glorifies in her own stupidity and pettiness.
Jade is not stupid
er ... well, you know what i think.
as for danielle in the diary room: i'd love to think that a penny's finally dropping, but sadly i fear all she'll do is feel sorry for herself and think she's being hard done by. typical school-bully mentality: "it wasn't my fault".
― grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 18 January 2007 00:25 (eighteen years ago)
This bit worries me Alba.
If it's bullying behaviour and crosses the line of acceptable behaviour, it's bullying. To go deeply into underlying motivations, insecurities and issues is to miss the point in a sense.
I don't know why I feel strongly, but I guess I've worked in too many office environments where bullying occurences have been avoided being tackled through infinite 'explanations' and blaming the victim.

jo then got up and started talking to jade; the two of them seemed to be nervously laughing about something. jo said something about how she expected she'd be called to the diary room next, and jade kept saying things like: "nooo, you didn't ... nooooo, i can't believe it!" and sniggering as if it was all very funny. anyone shed any light?
― grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 18 January 2007 00:31 (eighteen years ago)
I take your point about posh-school/rough kids bullying, but I don't think it's an analogy that quite stands up, because they're all still in the house together, where Shilpa is not a weak figure. She is a part of the gang of grown ups, who do most of the cooking and so on while the kids sit around farting and bitching on the sofa. She has as much status in that environment as Jade, if not more. It's not like a lonely bus stop.
But quite apart from all that, whether you call it bullying really comes down to Jade's psychology. It doesn't look to me like the psychology of a bully, which I think of as sadistically picking on a weak target for kicks, to impress friends, to make yourself feel better about yourself. I don't think bullies are as upset by their victims as Jade is upset by Shilpa. But I don't want to get too bogged down in arguing the point. What Shilpa has been subjected to is pretty vile, whatever you call it.

I also agree that it's more class-based than race-based, but they're too thick to throw anything other than the obvious stones, and again, who cares what the motivation is, the effect is the same. I was surprised that Danielle was only taken up on the 'go home' comment, and not the 'she can't even speak English properly' comment.

― Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 18 January 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)
That said this is a massive story now and people could be willing to pay quite a lot to hear what Jade has to say for herself, but they'll pay a lot more for Shilpa's side.
xposts I think Jade's stupidity is exactly the issue here because, if nothing else, she is revelling in this ignorance of India and Shilpa and Shilpa's career in an appeal to win an argument. She's directly appealing to a proportion of the viewing public she thinks will agree with her. It's David Pleat going "I don't even know where Mali is!" all over again.

― lex pretend (lex pretend), Thursday, 18 January 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)
It's absolutely the issue. Too stupid to accept the differences between herself and other people, too stupid to keep her mouth shut, too stupid to realise that she's got a lot more at stake in all this than Shilpa does. Shilpa was so right when she pointed out to Jade that BB is all she has. All of the consumers of the Jade product are watching this and seeing what a hateful bitch she is. Not so many of Shilpa's consumers. Still a significant number, I'd say, but not so many.
(Also, of course, she's not actually being hateful.)
I suppose the reason I'd differentiate between traditional and non-traditional bullying is that bullying is often a cycle that people get into for stupid reasons that can be broken with intervention. I don't think that's necessarily the case here.
A very very famous and idolised Indian woman though.
According to an Indian journalist who was on RTE radio this morning, she's not that famous in India. Yes, she has made a lot of films and people know who she is, but she is apparently very much B-list. I don't know, I'm only repeating what he said.

Why? She has had four years now of being successful and wealthy and being aware that people look down on her partly because of her astonishing ignorance of what is some pretty basic general knowledge. You'd have to ask, if she's as bothered by all this as people are suggesting, why she hasn't taken steps to rectify this?
Is blaming her upbringing actually still possible when she's got £2m sitting in the bank and presumably nothing much to do most of the time? I'm not asking her to suddenly start reading Tolstoy but you'd think that other people in her position would at least not revel in their own ignorance.

On CBB Jade Goody has been accused of bullying Shilpa. What do you think of Jade’s behaviour? It’s disgusting – I never want to read about her again 80%| She’s only joking, it’s not serious 3%| I’ve always thought she’s a vile individual 12%| It’s up to Shilpa to stand up for herself 5%|

I remember writing about that BB on CoM but IIRC I only mentioned Federico in passing as an Alan Cumming wannabe.

Both Jermaine and Dirk had shitty childhoods. Jermaine's is pretty well documented, and Dirk's father was apparently really abusive, and ended up getting shot and killed by Dirk's brother in front of Dirk. Yet, they seem like nice enough people.

Jade: You a loser! (um, under what criteria?)
Jade: Well, when she goes, I aint sayin goodbye to her!
(oh you're certain she's going before you do?)
xpost That reminds me, Russell was quite restrained under the circumstances, although still defending her.
SunPerson on phone: "Well, she lied about her fitness regime, the liposuction etc"Russell: "Ah, no-one cares about that do they?"
Nooh, no-one cares about Jade's little fibberonie regarding that. Shilpa's fib about only ordering Chicken Stock cubes a different matter obviously.

Not to mention it's actually a tad disrespectful to the thousands of people who grow up in very similar circumstances to Jade who actually make an effort to be, y'know, informed about stuff. If you're arguing that her upbringing explains or even excuses her general ignorance then, well, isn't there a different strain of snobbery at work there?

"The Carphone Warehouse Group today announces that it is suspending its sponsorship of Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother programme," the company said in a statement.
"Our concern has rapidly mounted about the broadcast behaviour of individuals within the Big Brother house," said CEO Charles Dunstone. "We are totally against all forms of racism and bullying and indeed this behaviour is entirely at odds with the brand values of The Carphone Warehouse. As a result we feel that as long as this continues we are unable to associate our brand with the programme.
"We had already made it clear to Channel 4 that were this to continue, we would have to consider our position. Nothing we saw last night gave us any comfort. Accordingly we have instructed Channel 4 to remove our sponsorship name and branding with immediate effect."
DOES THIS MEAN WE'RE FREE OF MOWBLI? I sort of don't know whether I should change my opinion on the house (kidding, sorta).
