Who goes! You decide!

and should they populate the crowd on eviction night with Wolves?

Sounds like a good time for a new series of Desi DNA, if you ask me.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

What WILL happen when they release jade back into the community? Davina surely won't be able to get away with just gurning to camera but might have to tackle ISSUES.

Edward Trifle (Ned Trifle IV), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

Who was the last really hated person to leave the house (like eveh)?
Surely not Nasty Nick?

Edward Trifle (Ned Trifle IV), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

makosi was more hated than nasty nick. in fact it gets more hateful each year. which of course will be davina's cover for exonerating jade.

Nah, they already covered their asses by having Paul Morley on BBLB last night.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

I am rather hoping that Carphone Warehouse pulling their sponsorship, whilst not bringing a premature end to this series, will be the end of BB in this country. It has been fun at times, it is undoubtably a fascinating sociolical and psychological experiment, but the time has come to say "enough's enough". Miltonpinski was so OTM when he said "makosi was more hated than nasty nick. in fact it gets more hateful each year". And in order for it to get nastier each year, the programme makers have to make the design of the house, the tasks the inmates have to perform and the extremes of personality of the ppl they select to go in greater year by year. We have not seen this taken to its extreme, as its extreme occurred in the 1st century CE and was called the Roman arena.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

Why don't they pick different kinds of people next time?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

I want Jermaine Jackson to win.

Momus was right about that British/Brutish thing.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:25 (nineteen years ago)

i wonder if somewhere ppl are working on a reality tv format which they hope will supersede BB and make it old hat. Devising one that doesn't involve public humiliation is a challenge, but one I suspect many would be prepared to rise to.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Just caught up on a million posts after my internets were broken and the snow stopped them sending me a new one.

Jade was as horrible as horrible can be in oxogate. She explicitly asks Shilpa to take back the comments about it being all she ordered, Shilpa says "yes, that was wrong, I take that back" and Jade TOTALLY FUCKING IGNORES THAT and goes on for another hour about Shilpa being a liar. The giggling fuckwits were just as bad, particularly when one of them says to Jade "Your Mum would be proud to see that" and the sad thing is she's probably right!

Jade's "fake" thing's a cracker though - "apart from my tits everything about me is genuine, I'm no fake, I'm no liar" while the Sun rips the pish out of her for getting liposuction, lying about her weight loss and releasing a fake workout video. If Davina doesn't throw that in her face tomorrow (along with a load of other stuff) then C4 can fuck right off. She should be hung out to dry along with her two agitators.

The Carphone Warehouse thing makes those shortening odds on the show ending early quite telling, word must have gone out yesterday that it was going to happen.

onimo (onimo), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Which other countries is Big Brother still running in? I know it's proportionate popularity is bigger in the UK than anywhere else in the world but I'm assuming it's still popular enough in many European countries, South Africa and Australia. I don't actually know if any of them have their own celebrity versions and if so how they've panned out or whether there's ever been anything as controversial/stirred up like this in them but I do doubt the latter. Would be useful for perspective tho.

vita susicivus (blueski), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

forgot Argentina and probably a few other American countries.

vita susicivus (blueski), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

I caught a bit of the live feed this morning. The arse triplets (keep trying grimly, this'll catch on) were still asleep and Dirk, Jermaine, Cleo and H were talking about the importance of chewing food and what burdock was and how to prepare it. Sounds a bit mild but it was actually really refreshing to see people having a quiet civilised and slightly interesting conversation.

Also Dirk saying "We should go into the bedroom and giggle and talk for an hour to see if any of them get grouchy about losing sleep" so something must have kicked off in the wee small hours.

onimo (onimo), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

When Jade said "you might be a princess back in fucking Neverland..." if you listen closely you can hear Jermaine say "no, that's Michael".

Lt. Starbuck to win. "Ain't goin in no plane, biddi-biddi-biddi what's up Buck?"

DavidM* (unreal), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just trying to work out what music they'll use for Jade's 'best bits' this time:

The Bitch Is Back: 4/1
Common People: 7/2
The Immigrant Song: 9/4
Your Racist Friend (by They Might Be Giants): 16/1
Pale Shelter: just because

vita susicivus (blueski), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

Davina shares a manager with Jade as well doesn't she?

I think said management company may well decide that it's expedient to drop Jade asap and make sure Davina and Russell look good by giving her a proper slating though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

No, you know it will be all 'Ooohhh Jade, there was just a teensy bit of trouble while you were in there, wasn't there?'

I cannot cope with her insane primary school classromm assistant interview technique any more. Can't we swap her out and get Paxman or John Humphries or Simon Amstell or Jonathan bloody Ross even. Even Terry Wogan and Zane 'tell me why your band's so great' Lowe give their interviewees a harder time than Davina.

-Jade has called Shilpa "poppadom"
-Danielle has topped this with "I think she should fuck off home. She can't even speak English properly anyway"

er, that was two nights ago, wasn't it? ie it was on last night's highlights, and we saw danielle getting hauled up for it.

"poppadom" is new to me, though. wow.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 18 January 2007 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

I was talking to one of my co-workers in London, and he seemed to think the whole show would be shut down now that the sponsor has pulled out. Is that likely?

i'll mitya halfway (mitya), Thursday, 18 January 2007 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

It depends on the contracts. If Carphone Warehouse has already paid and are unable to get their money back, that bit of the sponsorship money won't change. One BBC Pundit thought this series would finish, but there might be difficulties trying to do it again.

Jade: "Shilpa Poppadom" wasn't racist

Day 16, 19:08 UTC - by James Welsh
Warning: This article contains language and/or sexual references that younger readers are advised to avoid.

Jade has told Big Brother that appending "poppadom" to Shilpa's name was not intended as a racist comment.

In scenes to be transmitted tonight on Channel 4, Jade was called to the diary room and asked about a conversation with Danielle in which she called Shilpa 'Shilpa fuckawhiler' and 'Shilpa Poppadom'.

"Shilpa Poppadom," Jade reiterated when confronted. "I explained that for the other two trying to get her name out. Her name is not Shilpa Harry or Shilpa Tweed or Shilpa Mackintosh, she is Indian, so will have an Indian name. No racial anything.

"She is Indian, thinking of an Indian name and only thing I could think of was Indian food. Wasn't racial at all. It was not to offend any Indian out there."

Fucking hell what a stupid bitch.

onimo (onimo), Thursday, 18 January 2007 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

Which other countries is Big Brother still running in?

I know there is still a US version, though it isn't very popular -- just some cheap summer reality tv programming to run instead of reruns.

N.i.c.o.l.e (Ex Leon), Thursday, 18 January 2007 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

Has the Australian one been nixed? I know there was talk after some sort of sexual assault over the summer.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 18 January 2007 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

It is just like the Milli Vanilli CD's and the steamroller all over again.

Has CBB always only had one day to vote for eviction? Was someone meant to be evicted earlier, but that was put on hold due to the various walk-outs?

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Thursday, 18 January 2007 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

she might also have felt it necessary to be nicer to everyone after all the BB warnings.

There's a lot more to this comment than meets the eye. If C4 are telling the truth and there's been no coaching or instruction about what's happening in the outside world, then all Shilpa knows for sure is that she's been called into the Diary Room to explain her accusation of Jade being racist. Without any context, it's fairly credible for her to have concluded the controversy was about her pulling the racist card in an attempt to get Jade voted out because of their arguments.

This is of course bollocks if C4 are lying bastards.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 25 January 2007 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

But that does seem to ring true, given how Shilpa's acted.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 January 2007 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

"Well you have to nominate SOMEBODY don't you?"

yes but why make it someone who has been nice to you since day one? unlike the other fuxors in the house? doesnt add up. maybe shes getting tired of his flirting and suggestive comments but i dont think that was it as she didnt mention that in her reasons for nomination.

i do think the (alleged) briefing BB gave shilpa has made her think. they told her it made her look 'weak' to say it was racism so perhaps she thinks that by playing best friendies with the idiots it makes her look like she really isnt suspecting anyone of racism anymore so you know, now shes not one of 'those' who 'thinks everything is racism'.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 25 January 2007 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

She might have nominated Dirk because he wants to go!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 January 2007 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 25 January 2007 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

Next up for dissection was Jack, who's carved himself a soft spot in Cleo's heart. "He's such a good guy, a real man," she gushed. "I know he's only 19 but he's a proper, balanced man. I love the way he just thinks. The way he's fair. If he gets cross it's cos there's a reason to be cross. He's quiet. He's got a handsome personality. And he's a very good-looking boy. He's young but I can't see him being young - I've not heard him say one silly thing."

Swap "silly" for "fucking" and I'd agree that last sentence.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 January 2007 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

I just don't like Shilpa's sucking up to the arse triplets since Jade left. I don't care what the reason is. I don't think it shows a lot of dignity. I'm not saying ignore them or treat them like dirt, I'm just saying a little reservation wouldn't go amiss.

I really really really want Cleo to redeem herself. I have a lot of emotional captial invested in Cleo.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 25 January 2007 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Shilpa is as soft as shite and nominated Dirk out of 'kindness', I don't know why she chose him over one of the girls though. Except Jo and Danielle (and Jack) just aren't the hate figures inside the house that they are to the viewers.
Even so, it doesn't appear that Shilpa has become 'one of the girls' at all. Not like Cleo who is firmly seated on Jade's throne, and has spent much of this morning bitching and moaning about Dirk with the twins in the bedroom. A woman scorned.

I still say Shilpa FTW. This CBB has been her story, just as last years' was all about Chantelle's story. No-one else looks as if they deserve it more than her. She's always been at the centre. Jermaine is too placid, too blank; Dirk too much of an outsider, merely counting down the days. Interesting, witty guy though. Ian: meh. And Cleo has clusterfucked big time.

I wouldn't mind reading Dirk's book. That Japenese-y food he made this morning looked delicious.

DavidM* (unreal), Thursday, 25 January 2007 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

apparently the voting doesnt count now. not sure what ch4 are doing exactly but the 'mix up' with the voting last night is a bit suspicious. i doubt they were all so caught up with all the controversy-fall out that they couldnt even get that bit right.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 25 January 2007 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

They've put out a 'clarification' it's an "evict" vote.
Also..

Day 22, 22:12:
The housemates praise the party food provided by Big Brother. "That chocolate log is nice," Ian says, prompting Jo to tell him "a chocolate log came out of my a**e earlier on". He calls her a "dirty bitch". They wonder why Big Brother has moved the table and Danielle speculates that new people could be arriving.

Yes, with two whole days to go, they're going to put Chantelle back into the house, just to hoover up the votes and take the crown!!

(That's going into the Daily Star tomorow morning!)

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 January 2007 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

They are scrapping all the votes. Here's a press release from Endemol, published minutes ago:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement re Friday night eviction vote:

Last night, at the end of Celebrity Big Brother, there was an error in the on-screen information about Friday night's eviction vote in relation to the eviction phone line details for Shilpa. While the voice-over was correct and stated "To vote to evict Shilpa" the on-screen text mistakenly read "To vote to save Shilpa".

Endemol has issued this statement:

"This was a genuine mistake which was due to human error. We apologise to viewers and feel the best way to rectify it is to cancel the vote so far and re-open the voting again this evening, at the end of tonight's show. We have consulted with our independent adjudicator before making this decision.

Viewers who voted can have a full refund and any unclaimed monies will be donated to charity. Following this error the profits from Friday night's re-opened eviction voting will also go to the candidates charities."

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 25 January 2007 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

I reckon this year's CBB has been done by students on day release from college. It's the only way to explain the levels of ineptitude. They've had 4 votes thus far, and fucked two of them up, losing a further 3 housemates unexpectedly in the process and still needing double evictions two days from the end to get down to manageable numbers. Fucking useless.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 25 January 2007 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

I wouldn't mind reading Dirk's book.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I wonder if some UK publisher will reissue it on the strength of this?

It's a shame Jermaine didn't get more of a chance to be funny, I really liked his "think about the shoes" mantra for Shilpa during the task.
