Amazing visuals, all. I can't wait to see more. Beth's and her mom's paintings are amazing, especially IRL. The dog painting on Beth's wall is a Gretchen Baer. I have a gold pixie painting she did. I'll see if I can take a picture of it; it's packed away at the moment. Limited wall space here.

Ever since the move I haven't had a chance to rehang the art that used to exist on the walls of my (now-old) home, but as soon as I can I'd love to get to it. I used to have two of my paintings hanging on my bedroom's walls and two more of my paintings hanging elsewhere around the house. And then there's the portrait of the Golden Gate Bridge that my parents got in the late '80s upon our arrival there, a painting by my old art teacher, something my mom did when she went to a couple of painting workshops, and a print of something else.

The raccoons are by a friend who does comics (hunt out the watercolored ones in particular, he's been getting into a sort of lo-res aesthetic lately which makes everything look much "worse" than it actually is), and whose cartoons of raccoons made me very happy at one point, so I kept pestering him to do more raccoon cartoons. Hence the paintings.
The broken kids' castle is by my friend Gabriel, who mostly does paintings of the assorted children in his life, many of which (including mine) are painted on old illustrated classics type books that are gessoed (or something) solid, so they look like tiles.

OK, here's my one gig poster. I found it in this hippie knick-knack shop in the Olde Mistick Village mall in Mystic, Connecticut, of all places, amongst all the Doors and Hendrix and Dead posters. I just can't imagine anyone there getting the joke.

nathalie's mom is a babe
I was gonna say, Nathalie, you mom looks so nice! What is your shop?
The shop's rented, so that stately living room isn't really ours. We have an antique lace and jewellery shop. I manage it now that my parents live in Japan.
And yes, I'm very aware my mom's a total babe. :-) I sadly didn't inherit her genes, I'm not that pretty. That's ok. :-)

This wins, far as I'm concerned. Great painting.

Special place in my heart for this too. I have a few framed pics either of or from the Brooklyn Bridge. One of my favorite places.

have nothing on my walls (rented flat) but there is a big greenish canvas propped up on monitor in bedroom, a present from a friend of a friend who i did about 12 hours of simpsons tapes for back when they were only on sky. have a bunch of glitch photogram things from beflix.com and original sandman and doom patrol art and a huge mr punch print and loads of 4ad posters but they are all packed away unseen.
oh, i have a postcard of one of bacon's popes in a frame that used to hold a picture of me and the ex.
who did that mouse on mars poster btw?

Tufte's books are great though. They're so dense and rich with information, and genuinely beautiful objects. This thread is my favourite on his forum.
p.s. you have so much awesome art! I feel like Zoidberg going to the art opening and saying, "One art please!"

I love 'em! Centrepoint is quite imposing, but its waffle-texture definitely helps to soften the impact.

I posted it on the Tufte thread. They have an editorial board which reviews posts and only accepts 40% of them, so who knows. It may have been an imposition. When I was in college a friend of mine and I ate only white food for days to see if we could produce white shit. It didn't work.

I've had them for years and have no plans to get rid of them. Jesus came from a thrift store and Elvis came from a guy on the side of the road who sold velvet paintings. The wife is thoroughly creeped out by Jesus so we can't put him anywhere she'll see him regularly.

This was in my grandparent's living room and I always loved it as a child. It's a little tacky, but pretty neat because it is a mosaic of tiny colored pebbles. When my grandfather passed away, my mom asked if there was anything of his that I wanted, and I said "the Japanese pebble mosaic."
― Matt Olken (Moodles), Thursday, 25 January 2007 04:12 (nineteen years ago)
My son's room is decorated all with retro Disneyland posters and other Disney stuff. This is a mural of Cinderella's castle that my wife's friend Shelly did to tie it all together.

Archel, I love your sister's paintings.
I've loved Edward Tufte since I saw that the front cover of one of his books is a train path diagram. Which I have posted before - because googling the phrase brings up very few results, and one of them is this.

It could be. I'm actually looking at that album cover for the first time right now and it looks very similar. I think she gave us those photos around the same time that it was released. I'll have to ask her.
The pebble mosaic is about 2'x3' or maybe a little more, and it weighs a freakin' ton.

My wife is a big fan of Mary Blair's work (I like it too). That tapestry was available for a while at bargain basement prices on the Disney store site. It was so inexpensive that we almost bought a second one after my son tore up the tassles (grrrrr!).

I really like esoJim's paintings as well! The "cat" comment made me look upthread and roffle a bit, and also see the middle one in the next one as FISH. The right one is Little My as drawn by an acolyte of Neil Gaiman, but then I am drunk.
Any chance of a pic of the one with the lamp without the lamp, Jim?
