I seem to use AIM mostly when I'm online and reading stuff, etc., because (trivia dept.) it prevents your connection from becoming inactive... good if you're reading something long and your ISP cuts you off after a couple of minutes.

From what I understand, it's supposed to be used for talking to people. :)

I've no idea. Places I've logged into AIM from:

Here at the family home. My family aren't such complete sociopaths as to do this.

At work (if for some dull reason something keeps me in for an evening). I'm pretty meticulous about install->AIM->uninstall. Also see previous comment re: sociopaths.

At various Internet Cafes in NYC/Philadephia. Plenty of sociopath action there, but I imagine the machines are cleared regularly, and what are the chances of a machine sitting un-rebooted for 10 days without someone else coming in and AIMing?

I reckon the main culprit is my (former) quite ordinary password. Particularly if other people are coming under attack as well.

It did have one nice side effect: now if someone asks how I am, I'll hit the good stuff first :)

Two quick AIM security tips:

1. if you notice suspicious activity, CHANGE PASSWORD ASAP.

2. If you've ever logged on to AIM on a public computer, when you sign in make sure that you're password is not saved (duh) and for added security, you can delete your screenname from the dropdown list on the sign on screen.
