stomp (+dancefloor), Thursday, 25 November 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks! Downloading it right now.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 25 November 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmmmm.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 25 November 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear God, that's boring as hell.

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Thursday, 25 November 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 25 November 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It just seems like an offcut from something his imitators were doing five, nay ten years ago.

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, track 1 is a little tracky, but I think it would work well in a mix, it has nice tension.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

But, yeah, meh...

How much is he charging for this thing again?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Track 1(live) is OK, but it's totally derivative of his earlier stuff. It's more or less a ripoff of the "Analogue Bubblebath III" ep.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i like track 3

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

track 2 i mean.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

if they had marketed this as "universal indicator 6" expectations would be lower and peeps would be loving it.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah totally

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

track 2 > track 1 live > track 1

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

New aphex thing
New Aphex Twin!

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
It seems like the above folks had gotten hold of a fake version of the release that was floating around. I originally heard it, thinking it was real, and was really disappointed.

Fortunately I came across a genuine version, and it's quite different. The correct track listing and lengths for Aphex Twin's Analord 10 is:

A1 - fenix funk 5 (5:01)
B1 - xmd5a (7:51)

This shit is fucking awesome! It's kind-of like parts of Drukqs, but more downtempo, with more interesting and satisfying sounds. (I hear he used solely analogue equipment, and by the sound of things that includes his midi-controlled grand piano.)

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

analord 1 & 2 are in the shops this week in the US. 1 is all heavy acid while 2 is excellent vaguely melodic techno. i like them both but 2 wins out this time.

heywood jablomi (heywood), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'm three tracks into Analord 1, which is pretty great so far. The opener is pretty strong.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Where's Your Girlfriend? is a very strong hard-acid synth tune that would rock on the dancefloor. I feel like I've heard this track before... is it possible that Michael Mayer played it when I saw him a couple of nights ago?

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

can anyone put this up for d/l? or email it to me?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll email it to you if you want firstworldman.

I'm loving this, especially the last minute or so of Fenix Funk 5, which has me dancing about the room like an absolute ponce.

Patrick Allan (adr), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you very much, patrick... the email address i use here works splendidly. really appreciate it... i have a lot of random stuff too, i'll send you something back.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

unless there's something specific you're looking for. in which case, if i've got it, i'll send it.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Terrible harmonies and textures. Hodge-podge of styles that just sounds bad to me. Seems like he's just goofing around. Or being a jerk. You can tell his music isn't informed by much other music.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Friday, 28 January 2005 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

What a miracle, I agree with Bruner. Yeah. He hasn't evolved. He's stuck in 1996.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Friday, 28 January 2005 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

so then what are the fake analord 10 files going around? are they actual afx tracks or is it someone else?

Lingbertt, Friday, 28 January 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not anything that RJD has released before. Just really simple 4x4 stuff, droneish synths, etc etc. Really simple, little variation, polished-sounding but not impressive.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 28 January 2005 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it wasn't mind-blowing, but still better than Smojphace.

Lingbertt, Friday, 28 January 2005 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I imagine when it's revealed who it really was they'll get a load of decent publicity. Just a shame it wasn't something a bit more exciting.

Has there ever been a fake album leak which was widely considered better than the original?

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 28 January 2005 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard bits of 1 + 2 and like it. i think he's good at this style, regressive or not. the whole must-be-cutting-edge argument is tired idm nerd shit. "bwoon dub" and "phonatacid" kick ass-s-s

eman (eman), Friday, 28 January 2005 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

these tracks are awesome, i dont care what anyone says. and so much better than the fakes (which i didn't dislike).

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 28 January 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone email me these trax too?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 28 January 2005 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

is "Laricheard" only 2.15 long or have i only got a snippet of it? i love the track.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 6 February 2005 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone?

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 6 February 2005 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Analord 1:
a1 Steppingfilter 101 04:45
a2 Canticle Drawl 01:45
a3 MC-4 Acid 03:47
a4 Untitled 01:31
b1 Where's Your Girlfriend? 05:06
b2 Grumpy Acid 03:21
b3 Analord 158b 01:40

Analord 2:
a1 Phonatacid 09:47
a2 Laricheard 2:15
b1 Pissed Up In SE1 5:14
b2 Bwoon Dub 5:55

eman (eman), Sunday, 6 February 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

more like b1 Pissed Up In SE1 5:14

harshaw (jube), Sunday, 6 February 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

if you are bolding the one good track from those two eps that is.

harshaw (jube), Sunday, 6 February 2005 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

uh no it was a response to jed.

eman (eman), Sunday, 6 February 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks eman - its a lovely tribute to mr fingers' "can you feel it?" but i wish it was 4 times as long as it is.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 6 February 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, so are these those 2 12-inch EPs that went out 2 weeks ago? how come they don't say "aphex twin" on them? does he have a different name now? how the fuck is anybody supposed to know who made them? anyway, i like the first one, the more acid house like one, where he calls himself "microcomputer." the second one was way more boring.

chuck, Tuesday, 8 February 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

they don't say "aphex twin" because that's locked down by warp/sire. the rephlex stuff is usually under "afx."

eman (eman), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

these are amazingly good, but why oh why do they not come with sleeves?! and yeah, they sound kind of retro (which incidentally may be the point), but they are damn near perfect for february.

Which of the 11 records now out should I buy?

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

Please, this is important. At least tell me what not to buy. I have the Forced Exposure site open and the idea of eleven slabs of afx vinyl living next to my record player is incredibly seductive.

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

You will receive email confirmation of your order shortly.

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

answer: none of them!!

is it too late to cancel your order??

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Are all of these going to be compiled on a CD one day? If so, is it worth buying that CD?

donut ferry (donut), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

some of the analord stuff is pretty cool but the idea of anybody shelling out for it is just ... wow, mindblowing.

i think the last music i bought in this vein were those astrobotnia EPs ... paying for this sort of thing is like paying for "new weird america" hippie psych folk freakout collective music.

there's just so so so much of this "boomkat dance music" floating around in mp3, 7", limited, weird format, CDR, collaboration ... it's like they're want us to stop giving a shit ...

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

The price it would cost to get all of those Analord 12"s, I realized, is just under the same price I paid for the AC/DC vinyl remasters box set (15 albums at 180-grams each, with full liner notes, etc.) I like both AFX and AC/DC, but the comparitive worth.. I mean, holy shit.

donut ferry (donut), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

my guess is that the afx stuff stands head and shoulders above the other "boomkat dance music" (i'm not exactly sure what the term means, idm and post-idm techno? that's pretty broad. i don't shop at boomkat, but i do browse that site occasionally -- also i suppose if you buy an afx record you know exactly what you are getting) i bought the first two of this series and still listen to them, but i haven't kept up it because there is simply too much other good stuff coming out. the idea of having all of these on vinyl is seductive and the tunes belong on vinyl, but yeah i guess it'd be overkill...i think it would be in rephlex's best interest to release a cd comp and i would definitely check it out.

tricky (disco stu), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

"think it would be in rephlex's best interest to release a cd comp and i would definitely check it out."

OTM. all the best tracks from the series on one cd would be great!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

"boomkat dance" = all of those artists on planet mu and rephlex and other IDM labels who have suddenly developed this interest in back-to-old-skool dance techniques and who like to pretend that suddenly it is their job to save mainstream dance from itself, even though it is IDM and not mainstream dance that is staler-than-stale.

(i feel like i've made this argument so many times that it's verging on shtick)

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

Last I heard (which was several months ago- Rephlex almost never update their site, and when they do they tend to wipe out large sections of it) there would be a CD compilation "eventually" and it would of course leave out quite a few tracks (both to fit it all on one CD and to please the vinyl elitist collector scum).

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

If I can find the time I'll do a Back to Mine: Analord and whittle it all down to 60 minutes or so. (Though something tells me this has been done by at least 140 other people on other boards/lists.)

He should've released each track on one-sided 12".

Just wait until every Analord track is remixed by every alias on Ai.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it was a dumb move. 41 tracks, $100. No, I don't usually spend that much on a whim. Yes, I know idm has sucked for a long time now. But I recently re-discovered my love for afx and I ... I need to drink less coffee.

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

That's fine. Some people pay more than $100 for a single CD that's highly out of print. And I don't think that's even particularly insane (even though I probably should.)

donut ferry (donut), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 06:00 (twenty years ago)

OK, time to get excited again!

Analord has some surprising champions.

If one believes Internet fanboys, #9 is storming futuristic acid unlike anything you've heard. Retro? Nein!

Or, it's a pale shadow of AB3. We'll see.

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

"i think the last music i bought in this vein were those astrobotnia EPs ... paying for this sort of thing is like paying for "new weird america" hippie psych folk freakout collective music."

Amen. That said, one of my favorite pieces of electronic music is "Acidophilus" off of pt. 1.

ugly and mean, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

Wikipedia says there's a fake version of #9 out there. Somehow, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the version said Internet fanboys are drooling over.

That said, I like a lot of the tracks, particularly on the earlier discs, but the inevitable comp will probably suit most ppl just fine in the end.

marc h. (marc h.), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

but the idea of anybody shelling out for it is just ... wow, mindblowing.

RICHARD D. JAMES = MARISSA MARCHANT!!!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

the fake version of #9 is the one with 9 tracks.
the real one only has 4.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

Analord is the headstone on top of the grave that was Drukqs.

the real one only has 4.

that is the one with drool stains yah.

I have this sneaking suspicion that most of the people slagging it listened to one or two volumes, got bored and quit.

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

But what do i know, i've listened to zero so far.

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

more like richard d james = the stereolab of IDM

i mean, what is it going to take to shock him out of autopilot? luke vibert choking to death on his beard?

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

Stereolab's autopilot is way prettier than RDJ's right now though.

i love wikipedia.

That's a perverse selection. Folks who haven't heard the full releases should be warned that it's hardly a "Best Of".

The Man in the Iron-On Mask (noodle vague), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Analord is the headstone on top of the grave that was Drukqs.

-- I Ain't No Addict, Whoever Heard of a Junkie as Old as Me? (noodle_vagu...), August 17th, 2005.

funny, these are the two most interesting releases (album and series), for me, in RDJ's catalogue.

klopjob is an outstanding track.

Palpatean Mists, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:29 (twenty years ago)

god's sake! can't he just hurry up and sort his shit out and blow my mind away just one last time?

Vintage Latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:13 (twenty years ago)

x post

I don't know what I was getting at when I wrote that, cos I've enjoyed Analord and I don't hate Drukqs at all. I think I meant that those 2 releases have killed off RDJ's critical reputation, but I don't consider that a loss.

Still, the CD comp's got no "Steppingfilter", "Phonatacid", "Laricheard", "Analoggins" etc etc etc = odd choice of tracks.

I think the lack of innovatory fireworks on Analord is quite deliberate. Instead of trying to blow your mind, he's wriggling inside it.

The Man in the Iron-On Mask (noodle vague), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:22 (twenty years ago)

yeah lose tracks 3, 4, 10,.. and substitute Phonatacid, Laricheard, etc. and i'd be into it.

possibly stupid question but ppl keep saying analord 1-11 are aphex revisting himself and going back to an earlier period but after hearing all the analogue bubblebaths, i dont really hear that much of a similarity... anyone else feel like this?

plus, i think afx has gotten better as a musician and it shows on the new stuff.

aphextrio, Tuesday, 21 March 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

I finally got the chance to hear the AFX Analord stuff, on "Chosen Lords".

If the selection of tracks for this "best of" really is bad, then the songs that are better must be mindblowing. This is one of my favorite releases of the year, by far.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Friday, 21 April 2006 07:26 (nineteen years ago)

Theres some great music on this but the limited scope of the sounds here makes it hard to stay interested past the half way mark... Fenix Funk though, what an opener that one is!

fandango (fandango), Friday, 21 April 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

It does slow a little bit in the middle, but the last 3 tracks are wonderful, particularly XMD 5a, the closer.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Friday, 21 April 2006 11:10 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was an odd selection, not a bad one. There's stuff on the vinyl every bit as good as on CL, some probably better. But this stuff continues to baffle my sense of good and bad - it doesn't feel special somehow, but it's very very insidious.

Mingus Realty (noodle vague), Friday, 21 April 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

The compilation is good but you really need to get a hold of all of these (though Analord 9 is closest to his more recent screechy breakbeat stuff -- not my fave). I truly love the bedroom techno simplicity of the series.

Jay Vee's Return (Manon_69), Friday, 21 April 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

it doesn't feel special somehow, but it's very very insidious.

this is OTM

fandango (fandango), Friday, 21 April 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

i have all the analords as mp3's, if anyone is interested.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Friday, 21 April 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

i would rather listen to the analord tracks on separate 12"s than listen to a compilation of the 'best' ones on one CD. that is my feeling, anyway. i can only take the aphex twin these days in small doses. perhaps i am getting old? also the most 'housey' analord recs don't seem to be on this!

'Where's your girlfriend?' off Analord 1 was pretty great.

jimn (jimnaseum), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

several of the better tracks are not included on chosen lords.

held tony (held tony), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

a lot of them were a bit one note in terms of being too consistent with the mood but he seems to have gotten better as a 'musician' over the years.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

> several of the better tracks are not included on chosen lords.

and there was plenty of space left on the disk as well (i think it was about 55 minutes). which just feels stingy.

not better, but some highlights not included are:

Backdoor.netshadow (analord 9)
Phonatacid (track is pushing ten minutes) (analord 2)
Laricheard (analord 2)

I think the Tuss Confederation Trough ep is an improvement on the analord style. The tracks on it are more playful and colourful.

lol was just coming to post about what a brute "Backdoor.netshadow" is. Shit owns.

does the rest of this series live up to the awe-inspiring majesty of "pissed up in se1" and "i'm self-employed"?

For someone who at one point was the biggest fanboy of this dude, I have neither really checked out Analord or even know if he's released anything in the last couple of years... There was that Tuss thing he did in about 07 - anything else?

dog latin, Sunday, 16 August 2009 23:48 (sixteen years ago)

You're not missing much, really.

didn't the warp guy (steve beckett?) announce an aphex twin release for '09 at some point?

It was always hard to justify buying these records at import prices because they were interesting but not really jacking. It was always easier to cut to the chase and buy used copies of old Detroit and Chicago stuff.

I listened to the Analord Mix Tape when I was running the other day, and it was really good. That being said, it isn't something that I would want to deal with on a 12" level. I would rather just listen to it in an album format and be done with it.

Has anyone noticed the unreleased Analord tracks that are now on the Rephlex website for download?

http://www.rephlex.com/releases

Some of the new tracks are better than ones that made it to record.

It is funny that this thread popped up again. I have listened to the Analord mixtape a few times in the last couple days. It keeps getting better, really nice skewed house music.

Any opinion on the new tracks?

The ones on Analord 11 in particular are rly nice.

Because the Analord series was kinda boring really. I think most people are anticipating his first proper album in ten years. Ten years!!

I never realized how melodic it all was before. There are just so many different parts to listen to.

XMD5A is still one of the coolest sounding breakdowns at around the 4 minute mark - I listen to it yet.

I was going through my music and noticed all the bonus tracks but forgot where I found them. Are any comparable to the originally released stuff?

the analord 11 bonus trax are as good as any "classic" afx
