!!!!!

scott pl. (scott pl.), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

Is this doomed to be underwhelming though?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

Of course it is.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

No it's not. It is guaranteed to be an album so good that all other albums will wither and die under the sheer weight of Vitalic's steely gaze!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

Hang on, isn't 'Wooo' that rubbish 60s organ thing that was the shit bit of the Fanfares EP? What's that doing on there and not either of the other two tracks?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

I predict this will be full of covers of Radiohead songs in a Big and Rich style.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Mooo!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Save A Horse (Ride A Poney)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

bound to be an anti climax, but 'warm leatherette'!!!!!

stirmonster, Friday, 4 February 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

Valletta Fanfares is Fanfares as far as I can tell.

I am disappointed there are no collaborations with people like Mos Def, Run DMC, Alex Kapranos, or Ian Brown.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

It's a bit weird the way a remix of someone else is a b-side.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

My sources tell me Bloc Party feature on 'My Friend Dario', Ronan.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

noel gallagher is on poney pt. 2.

stirmonster, Friday, 4 February 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Iggy Pop is on No Fun.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Actually that would be the most awesome thing ever. PLEASE TELL ME ITS A STOOGES COVER IN SCUZZY VITALIC STYLE!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Kate Thornton is on "Mooo"

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

"Newman" samples from Seinfeld

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

Surely La Rock 01 will be a rejigged version? Am I the only one who thinks it's straining a bit now? It is from 2001 or something isn't it? Yeah I know shock horror a record 4 years old but still.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

Its a typo, its actually 'My Friend Darius'.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

Sienna Miller provides backing vocals throughout.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

Ronan dude 'Positive Education' was like ten years old when it finally appeared on a Slam album.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if there are people who still haven't heard it, or have heard it but didn't realize it was him. It *is* his signature song though.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

xpost Re: La Rock

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

Is anyone else slightly perturbed by a track called Polkamatic?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

there is a vocal mix of La Rock 01 coming out on Defected

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

La Rock 01 and Poney Parts 1 and 2 are all from the 2001 EP. Only You Prefer Cocaine is omitted, because Cocaine is passé.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

Featuring Tim Burgess.

I'd feel aggrieved if La Rock *wasn't* on here. Its better than him doing an LCD Soundsystem and leaving all the good stuff off.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

B-but the extra free disc.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

To be honest, I think 'Fanfares' is a billion times better than 'La Rock', but maybe I'm just old.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

hmm I think I prefer "La Rock", or certainly the other tracks on the Poney EP.

"La Rock" had a real wow factor to it, for so long. I think that's sort of lost a bit, for me now!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

there is a vocal mix of La Rock 01 coming out on Defected

this is the scariest thing i've heard all year.

and alba. get a zimmer.

stirmonster, Friday, 4 February 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

Can I just borrow yours for a while, see how it feels?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

alba dancing with a zimmer is worth a look.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

haha thank god it's not true!

on another board, someone posted about the vocal version of "Strings Of Life" and I said "the chorus is 'strings of life, oh i can't get enough of those wonderful strings of life, oh yeah, those strings are full of life"

I came back later and people were like "that's fucking typical, what rubbish lyrics".

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

i'd fall over without it.

xx post

stirmonster, Friday, 4 February 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

ach i promised to keep that a secret... xp

jed_ (jed), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

ha ha ronan! i wish those were the lyrics to 'strings of life'.

stirmonster, Friday, 4 February 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Stannahs number one and two.

Ronan - plz provide link to that board.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

those lyrics are great!

jed_ (jed), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

www.bodytonicmusic.com/forum

the thread is from August or September I think.

x-post I am currently working on lyrics for Jaguar/Star Dancer, so far I was thinking a chorus of "Jaguar, Jaguar, Jaguar, Jaguar" and for Star Dancer perhaps I could personalise things more, who is the "Star Dancer"? What is he really like????

jed_ (jed), Friday, 4 February 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

just looking at the track listing makes me mildly ecstatic.

I don't care how old La Rock or anything else is: just going by the stuff I've heard this is maybe the best album of my life. And Matt, wtf re: Wooo being a rubbish organ thing?! It's so much fun!

Also, Björk remix OMG WOO &c!

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 5 February 2005 00:34 (twenty years ago)

I love the rubbish organ thing, it reminds me of the weirder moments on Discovery eg. the prog synths. Also what an odd way to "go schaffel"

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm just psyched to hear a proper CD of La Rock as I've only been able to hear it on .mp3 lo these many many months (years even!).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

"polkamatic"??? i guess i'll cut the brotha a break. he's not of this world.

i hope "the past" is completely slamming thing like 139 bpms with a big wistful melancholy breakdown that snaps out of itself and back into the shit. actually i guess i just described "absolut."

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

hi, i am very excited about this album from vitalic. also polka is usually great so 'polkamatic' should be cool.

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 7 February 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

!!!!!!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 7 February 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Surely La Rock 01 will be a rejigged version? Am I the only one who thinks it's straining a bit now? It is from 2001 or something isn't it? Yeah I know shock horror a record 4 years old but still.

It's so that Pitchfork will have already gone through their usual denial-is-followed-by-acceptance dance. Somewhere Basement Jaxx are kicking themselves.

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 7 February 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

every time I look at this thread I squeal a little with excitement.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 7 February 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

No problem with La Rock being on it (it always sounds new to me.) I just hope Valletta Fanfares is an upgrade of the original Fanfares which I didn't like that much (although it works pretty well in his live set...Candy was the only real winner on that E.P. IMHO.)

Omar (Omar), Monday, 7 February 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

the version of Fanfares on the 2manydjs essential mix is called Valletta Fanfares but as far as I recall they only play the drum intro.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 7 February 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

isn't it 'Wood' not 'Wooo'? but it wouldn't be a Vitalic release without title confusion

too bad 'Candy' didn't make it on there

this album will almost certainly be better than 'Human After All'

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 7 February 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

'Fanfares' is Ronald De Boer to 'La Rock's Frank

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 7 February 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, how about 'Fanfares' is Frank de Boer, 'La Rock' is Piojo Lopez. ;)

Omar (Omar), Monday, 7 February 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

La Rock is Patrick Vieira, Fanfares is Roy Keane.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 7 February 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

I really really hope that La Rock has not been retouched in the least.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 7 February 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

ooh that's a better comparison Ronan, well done

when Siegbran first started touted his 'I Luv Poney' bootleg i kept thinking 'Poney' was 'La Rock' so i imagined the 'I Luv U' vocals over 'La Rock' rather than 'Poney' - it goes just as well in my head

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 7 February 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

it won't ruin the old La Rock!

I just would be excited to hear a new mix of La Rock.

LA ROCK 05

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 7 February 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

I don't understand Ronan's football metaphors :(

but La Rock is Maria Sharapova, Fanfares is Serena Williams.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 7 February 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

God i'm so excited about this.

Anyone know any other tracks by even other artists in the style of LA Rock and/or Poney Parts 1/2?

I think the synth reminds me of daft punk actually - any suggestions on a daft punk song that would go well with any of those songs?

Anko Painting (Anko2), Monday, 7 February 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

Anko try Agoria's remix of Senor Coconut's 'Smooth Operator' (sped up it goes quite 'La Rock'y, Hystereo's 'Corporate Crimewave', Black Strobe 'the Abwher Disco' and i'm sure Ronan, Tim and others will give you more recent tips

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 7 February 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

It never OCCURRED to me that the '01 was a year! I just assumed it was the first La Rock or something. I am a total retard.

This is exciting!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 7 February 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

It is definitely 'Wooo' not 'Wood'. I forget how I know this, but I do.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 7 February 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to call it 'Yuka-Yuka Menko Barrel Trax' from now on

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 7 February 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

Because all the 'o'-ish letters look the same on the vinyl making it "wooo" or "wddd"?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 7 February 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

Also because they dispense with that ridiculous font at http://www.citizen-records.com/vitalicwebsite_fanfares and it clearly says 'WOOO'.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 7 February 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

Anko, DJ Tonio and David Carretta-My Telephone Is Dead

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

my co-worker handed me a cdr the other week that had 'vitalic - ok cowboy ([unintelligible] man) - live mix' written on it and said, "this is really good. you should burn this."

so i did, and it is indeed good, but i'm not sure what is - an album sampler?

I think "My Friend Dario" just fused all my senses.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

i love the interweb

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Argh. Still four and a half hours until I'm going to be at home. Everyone stop downloading this in case the link expires!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

or i could just g-mail you it you big silly

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for 'My Friend Dario', hope the remaining new tracks have a bit more vim though (any chance of yousendit-ing the rest??).

I'm with Tim on the merits of that 'rubbish organ thing' on the last E.P. btw, woozy and wierd.

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

gmail me too, please, steve! or indeed to my hotmail account (i'm in cambridge today, so no d/ling).

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

OMG, I just found this thread! Is Vitalic really friends with Darius Danesh? Too sweet!

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

cheers Alienus Quam Reproba, the only one i've got is the black strobe (bside of chemical sweet girl) - i'll check out the others

Ronan: I've got that track, but it's getting into hard house territory! Still it is a monster.

TRV have some tracks that are kinda there in punch, but i'd love some more evil in them!

Tiefschwarz's Isst is good and evil :) same as that flesh and bone song.

Anko Painting (Anko2), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

Wait so people aren't in total roxored *awe* of My Friend Dario and playing it, like, all the time? Are y'all broken or something?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 10 February 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

i guess most people know it from the bbc set.

bass braille (....), Thursday, 10 February 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

The... bbc set? You mean there's MORE?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 10 February 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

more new vitalic? not really. it was the only new track in the set. except for that "rollin and scratchin" remix maybe.

bass braille (....), Thursday, 10 February 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh, okay. Is the remix good?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 10 February 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

there are overdriven guitars and garbled vocals on top, so yes, i would say its a bit better.

I'm a tad underwhelmed by My Friend Dario on the first couple of listens - I mean, its alright, but it doesn't really kick in properly and its all a bit, well, Primal Scream, isn't it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 February 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

Also, less guitars, more scuzzy end-of-the-world synth pileups please.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 February 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

Wait so people aren't in total roxored *awe* of My Friend Dario and playing it, like, all the time? Are y'all broken or something?

they totally, toally are where I am.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

i recognise 'My Friend Dario' instantly from his set - maybe he opened with it? anyway it's pretty good. the guitars v synths seems irrelevant given how much Vitalic (and others) blur the two so they sound like the same giant wall of chaos. also Matt bear in mind this is the 'single edit' and you'll surely get your proper kick ins and build ups on the album version.

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

April 29
Pressure, The Arches, Glasgow - Vitalic live with Slam and Adam Beyer, - other rooms included Jacques Lu Cont / Jesper Dahlback.

If the 22nd really is the Kompakt night then April in Glasgow is looking too good.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

good god, 'Candy' is so fantastic. WHY isn't it on the album? it doesn't really matter i suppose but still...

right now i am thinking about what if Vitalic produced The Rapture

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

'Wooo' makes me want to do 'air organ'

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 26 February 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

this album is so, so, so, so, so good. It's a fucking monster, really. One of the few albums I own that can drown out the Central Line (at times it sounds remarkably like the Central Line, actually). "No Fun" - wow, wow, wow. And "Wooo" wasn't a one-off!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

So it's good? ;-)

I admit I'm very interested, even though I've barely heard anything by 'em...

Based on the mix set I downloaded from someone the other week and listened to last night, I'm now VERY interested in this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

Ok, it's in the ILM room now. Give me a shout if you want a user list slot, though I haven't gotten the fastest connection in the world.

MattR (MattR), Monday, 28 February 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

So far, initial impressions:

Definitely living up to my expectations (which were very high). Great mix of what I expected (dischordant, layered, driving sounds that just gets better the louder it's played) and an odd almost 'shoegazer' feel to some of the tracks with the way vocals and sounds / layers progress (see Repair Machines, possibly my favourite new track, especially how it runs on from Poney Part 2).

The Poney's, La Rock 01 & Wooo I have at different running lengths to the 12" versions by a good minute in each case by my count, but whats been cut I'm not sure, I can't hear any major differences. Valletta Fanfares isn't Fanfares from the 12, it's a 2 minute 30 edit of it that possibly doesn't serve any purpose other than finishing the album with a hell of a bang. Polkamatic doesn't really serve any purpose other than as an 'intro' running at less than 2 minutes as well. Shame, I was looking forward to a full on Vitalic Polka (which it is!), might have to get creative with an edit, because it's great while it lasts.

Trahison makes a nice development of the ideas behind Polkamatic, taking a simple, quite 'traditional' sounding synth line to my ears and progressing it over a simple 4:30 track that builds up textured synths behind the main lead.

Newman & No Fun are the 'big' new tracks, maximalist workouts. No Fun has the same female vocalist as My Friend Dario (which is the only guitar heavy track) - maybe one of Chicks On Speed? It's vocoded, but sounds like a US via Germany accent. Not too intrusive vocals in any case. Big noisy dischordant synth lead line (processed 303?), fuzzy synth bass lines and great siren workout in the last minute.

Newman takes a driving bass synth with a nasty 'wah wah' sounding lead, quite a similar feel to La Rock 01 overall, with a fantastic break and build up towards the end of the track.

Without tracks like U & I, Trahison, Repair Machines & The Past I think it'd be a bit too 'heavy' for home listening, but with them added the album paces itself perfectly, bringing out the parts in tracks like the Poney's that makes them excellent home listening as well as on the dancefloor. Don't think I can imagine the whole album being any better than this (possible inclusion of full version of Fanfares & an extended Polkamatic excepted...).

MattR (MattR), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

oh boy oh boy oh boy

W i l l (common_person), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

is there something wrong with me that joy of vitalic never feels quite as effortless as i think it should? (PS i haven't heard this yet)

jermaine (jnoble), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Weirdly, the version of 'Fanfares' I have on CD (from this excellent Switch compilation) is also about a minute shorter than the 12". It loses the marching drums intro.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Considering it comes in at less than two minutes, Polkamatic is great - its like this lovely little plinky Kraftwerk thing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

This album is insanely good. The old tracks like La Rock 01 work perfectly in the album context, and everything new is simply brilliant. Right now it sounds to me like the best dance music album since "Homework". For me, the great thing about that album is how it simultaneously works as a compilation of singles seemingly constructed strictly for dancefloor use and a complete album appropriate for home listening (well, more likely home dancing, but still). The same thing can be said about OK Cowboy. I think it's a pretty rare thing.

I thought I'd grown tired of La Rock 01 and the Poney tracks forever but since i got this I just keep listening to them over and over again.

Kornél Kovács (Kornél Kovács), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Completely agree, this has managed to both confound and exceed expectations, mere superlatives are not enough. I'm already getting a little tingle of gleeful anticipation when I hear Polkamatic - that is going to be something else live. I love the distilled drums version of Fanfares, leave 'em wanting more.

Mike (mratford), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

And how good would this sound if you hadn't already heard half of it?

Mike (mratford), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

And how good would this sound if you hadn't already heard half of it?

It's EXCELLENT. I'd only heard La Rock 01 and My Friend Dario prior to this afternoon.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit I can't wait to hear this!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

If I'd never heard any of this before I'd be thinking OMG OMG ALBUM OF THE CENTURY AND THE CENTURY BEFORE THAT! but because most of the first half is so familiar by now it kind of detracts from that. Obviously its still all awesome though. I have one more thing to say:

NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN NO FUN !!!!!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

Repair Machines is awesome as well - its almost got that 1999 chart trance vibe but with a big chunky electro spine to it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Also Stevem, the reason Candy isn't on the album is because Newman is it contains Newman which is like a harder, squealier and more coherant version of the same. Doesn't have that sublime soft bit in the middle but the hard bits are much better. But its almost like he separated the sublime soft bits into another track and called it The Past instead.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

This album is kind of wacky, like the soundtrack to a techno carnival or something. I really like it!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

This could really do with a full version of Fanfares to crown it all off, sadly... I keep expecting those mad discordant chimes to come in and really end it with a proper bang but it just kind of fizzles out. Is there a CD version of the original available anywhere or will I have to be content with the rub MP3 that has been doing the rounds for months?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

yes, if the full "Fanfares" had been the climax this really would have been the best album ever recorded. maybe Vitalic realised that so much goodness on one CD might make the world explode.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

One thing I'm wondering about is whether the rip we're hearing is from the 2x12" Vinyl? Maybe the CD will have the full "Fanfares"?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

i am extremely excited about this record.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

This record is killing me.

Kornél Kovács (Kornél Kovács), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

Okay, having now listened to the whole thing on the way into work today I should say it is beating Arular as my album of the year by a considerable margin.

Its not just the bangers (and I think Repair Machines might be even better than No Fun, just that amazing computer game cyber-race feel), its the quieter moments as well. Vitalic is excellent at doing that whole sad and empty thing in the way that Felix does, but coupled with this gorgeous Kraftwerk Computer World melodic edge as well. The treated vocoder harmonies on U&I are just plain lovely.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

I still don't like Wooo though, sorry. I might replace it with You Prefer Cocaine on my CDR version.

Incidentally I've barely listened to Poney Pt 2 over the past three years and that's like getting a whole new Vitalic track as well - why did I overlook this so much, its awesome!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Wooo's like my favourite track!

Kornél Kovács (Kornél Kovács), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

Spencer, please don't do that. Its filling me with the sort of hope that will only be shattered, on a par with all those "I've heard its not the real Daft Punk album" guys.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

Maybe the CD will have the full "Fanfares"?

the CD does not have the full "Fanfares".

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

I dled this overnight and listened to it on my way to work, Sadly, my walk to work is only 15 mins and I was being good, listening to it in order, so the only new track I got to hear was 'Polkamatic'. But it was an exciting walk all the same. I started running at one point. I was late for work, but I don't think that was why.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

I just love how La Rock 01 is only track 5 and the album still has a fair bit to go before it peaks (somewhere between 7 & 11 [inclusive]).

Why does part of me want to be there when Ronan gets to here this?

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

today, sometime!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

This album is so much better than Human After All that it isn't even funny.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

Haha Snrub I said almost those exact words in another place earlier today. Although strangely I think The Brainwasher would fit in just fine on OK Cowboy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

I never got into The Brainwasher really, it's kind of annoying!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit this is killing me! and I'm not even finished getting it yet.

"The Past" is absolutely amazing! So sad and emotional. He really is more like Daft Punk than you'd have thought. That one song "The Past" is just absolutely fucking unreal! The entire outro sequence, it's like Midnight Express revisited or something, so so so affecting!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

This techno music album has killed my life. I am now dead.

Kornél Kovács (Kornél Kovács), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Totally with you on The Past, its the saddest schaffel track I've ever heard. And then it just stops for a second, reverts to a straight 4/4 for a few seconds and that high-pitched synth comes in. Its just lovely.

Its really, really evocative of something for me but I've no idea what. Maybe the music when Optimus Prime dies in Transformers: The Movie or something (if not, it should be).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

Downloading this album is going to make me late for work today.

So I will be late.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

when is this coming out for real so i can buy it with my cold hard cash dollars???

dave k, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Single comes out in March, and album in May - I'm pretty sure anyway.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

xpost-ronan, yeah he is more like (some) daft punk than some recognize. was listening to the "alive" from Alive 97 and towards the end there's this bit and i was like "this is where vitalic was born!"

and speaking of new DP, all the crocodile tears and cries of "gutted" must end. it's killer. they are in control. i'm really feeling it. join me!

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

The entire outro sequence, it's like Midnight Express revisited or something, so so so affecting!

this excites me more than words can say.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

Andrew M OTM regarding both daft notions

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Ha - I am just listening to 'Warm Leatherette' for like, my first time ever, and I started thinking "What modern thing is this making me think of?" and then I realised it was Vitalic. What a perfect choice for a remix.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

i listened to Ok Cowboy and i lost my shit

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 3 March 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

i put it on my headphones on the way home last night and had to walk around my block 3 times so i could hear the whole thing. i am so pleased that it is so good!

i think the stand out new track for me so far is U&I. it sounds like the best end of night tune ever (if it went on for 10 mins longer).

in fact all the songs are so short! it's a pop album, like discovery!

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 3 March 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

This album is great but it's so cold! could easily be the soundtrack to sortve like a Jacob's Ladder nightmare party scene, all faces leering in at you in strobelighting that punctuates pitch blackness. I know that's really cliched dissociative drug imagery and I have no excuse

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 3 March 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

in fact all the songs are so short! it's a pop album, like discovery!

yes! we (Greg, Cis, Marianna and I) were talking about this last night: it's proof ihat you don't need eight minutes to get all the necessary peaks, build-ups and dips for a dance monster in.

also: "Valletta Fanfares" is actually really fucking intense. I don't think I want the full "Fanfares" instead of it, but maybe segued into from it.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 3 March 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

I think alot of the songs would be better if they were 8 minutes!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

i think i agree. the big club tracks, anyway, leave me wanting more. this was the part on the Human After All thread when we started waiting for remixes, right?

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Well Dario is already getting a long version - hopefully all the other singles get the same treatment.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

great!

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

Oh I can certainly take extended versions of everything on OK Cowboy, but I do like the conciseness - it fits the album format, definitely.

also: any news on the Björk remix mentioned at the top?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

I can't stop listening to 'The Past'. It's making me think of 'Make Love', but enough DP talk.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 3 March 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

I've also discovered that Richard X's 'Rock Jacket' sounds great played after Vitalic, but then again it sounds great in most context.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 3 March 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

This has made me dig out Agoria's 'Blossom' album from a couple of years ago. The track 'Presque Un Age' in particular captures a similar feel to the more downbeat stuff on OK Cowboy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 March 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

This is cool. I didn't get Vitalic before, but with a whole album's worth of material there's enough context that it makes sense now. So, like, La Rock sounds tons better to me now than it a couple years (was it really that long?) ago. I don't know why it works like that, but it does.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

haha, how come i still don't have this album? how do you people find anything on slsk these days?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

ILX Direct Connect Hub boyeeee!

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

is there something wrong with me that joy of vitalic never feels quite as effortless as i think it should?

how very very wrong i was. this stuff is just straight massaging my pleasure centres (tho admittedly the new stuff more than the old!). wow.

jermaine (jnoble), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

i remember once on an old vitalic thread ronan was describing a track that i hadn't heard as sounding like it featured 1940s WWII film footage music - was this what became "trahison", ronan?

jermaine (jnoble), Friday, 4 March 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

More likely 'Wooo', I'd have thought.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 March 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

listening to this album all of yesterday and today pretty much on repeat has made me realize that i need need need to hear most of these on the dancefloor as SOON AS POSSIBLE.

and that Repair Machines is holy fucking beautiful.

lemin (lemin), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

polkamatic is totally kicking my ass

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 4 March 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

Wow, "The Past" is incredible! Ronan very OTM upthread.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 4 March 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

whoever makes the comment that dance is dead, shove the actual CD of Ok Cowboy into their ear...I mean really jam it in there. This is up there with "Homework", "Discovery", and "Thee Glitz"...classic stuff.

My Friend Dario got me drunk on the first listen

kevin butkis, Friday, 4 March 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

The track I was talking about was "Absolut", as far as I remember.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

I was confusing WWII with Battlestar Galactica, I think.

Why haven't I got 'Absolut'?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

Probably because it's not on discogs.com - useless collaborative fuckers. Still seems to be for sale here though.

The only track I have outside of the album and the 2 EPs is 'Everything Is OK'.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

the remix of "Visions" by Slam is very nice. I don't have it on MP3 but it's worth HUNTING DOWN.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

There is something called Get Ready To Race that has been in my download queue for weeks now. The name itself has been exciting me hugely.

I have other Vitalic tracks as well but can't remember any of them at this particular point in time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

I have a few of his remixes, but I was under the impression that a lot of the tracks claiming to be Vitalic were bogus.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

this has been brought up on ILE, but other people may like to know - Vitalic is playing live at Cargo in London on April 30th, with The Hacker and Agoria.

you can buy tickets here: http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=uk&query=search&category=misc&search=vitalic&beginmonth=04&beginday=30&beginyear=2005

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

use discogs to weed out the bogus ones

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but 'Absolut' isn't on discogs.com and it's not bogus.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Vital+Ferox

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

Absolut is Vital-Ferox, here: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Vital+Ferox. Uh, as is mentioned up there...

While I'm here I'll quickly mention how ace the DJ Tonio & Vitalic colloboration To L'an Fer From Chicago is. Another one that tends to slip through the cracks, but is pretty typical Vitalic - building up driving layers of synth madness.

MattR (MattR), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Ah.

discog.com's search engine is rubbish.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

'my friend dario' is the awesome but the breakdowns/builds should be like three times as long as they are...that song's such a tease!

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

Repair Machines is the best track on there. Listen to it while staring at this:

This album is an instant classic.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 11 March 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

Does anybody know the lyrics to "Poney"? Will the album come with a lyric sheet?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 11 March 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

Repair Machines is the best track on there.

YES! finally someone agrees

lemin (lemin), Friday, 11 March 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

Just listened My Friend Dario - not bad, really not bad!

zeus, Friday, 11 March 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

very very hot. like magical karmic payback for "Human After All".

TayBridgeCatastrophe (TayBridge), Friday, 11 March 2005 08:48 (twenty years ago)

Geeta - there is a longer version out there somewhere. The other slightly frustrating thing about MFD is that there's this new bassline that comes in right at the end and you think its going to build up again from there and it just doesn't.

(I'm totally sold on this track now, though)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 11 March 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

xpost

that "scream" image goes perfectly with Felix Da Housecat's "Do Me What I Do" as well

modernaire, Friday, 11 March 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

About halfway through, and I'm very happy with this.

sleep (sleep), Friday, 11 March 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

i put "the past" on a mixtape i made for a girl i like.
if it does not win me her heart i will curse the vitalic.

what you think of cover art, cowboy? cool pic i says.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Friday, 11 March 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

"the past" and "repair machines" give me funny feelings inside. so so good.

the morodorishiness of this thing grows more apparent with every listen.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Friday, 11 March 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

cheezo typography

dan (dan), Friday, 11 March 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

that cover looks terrific!

jermaine (jnoble), Friday, 11 March 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

i really like how my friend dario is a tease - especially with the car-start introduction - it just sounds like a playful gimmick that kicks into gear perfectly. it's a definite headphones-mix, but i need to find the an extended one for dancing.

matt - where can i find this?

natedey, Friday, 11 March 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

woo yay, so i leave ilm for a bit for various reasons, discover vitalic cos someone sends me the album, come back to ilm to enthuse about it...only to discover that everyone loves him already! lovely.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

is an album full of vitalic listened to all-at-once just a little too much vitalic, as I fear?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

sometimes this album full of Vitalic listened to all at once is still not enough Vitalic.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

yes, it is actually not enough! more Vitalic needed.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

"my friend dario" is Eliminator era ZZTop. the car theme. the lock "real" drum rhythm. the riffage. hell yeah.

frank beard was the only one WITHOUT A BEARD! rich!

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

it rocks.

i haven't heard this yet and reading this thread is making me CRYYYYYYYYYYYY :(

(DUDE BETTER BE TOURIN' AMERICA)

joseph (joseph), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

omg, i hope an american tour is in sight, I must hear "Candy/Wooo" live.

this album reminds me of riding a ghost train or being at an evil carnival. it just has this...i dunno..."antique" sound to it that gives it a dark, creepy vibe to me. i love it.

modernaire, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

My Friend Dario is out according to the Covert Records mailing list. Remix is provided by Dima (Dima prefers newbeat remix), and there's a 2 minute snippet over on the Covert page: http://www.covert.uk.com/choons.cfm?choon=16109

I'm guessing this is an advance, as it hasn't got the other tracks listed above. Or maybe a split 12" release or something.

MattR (MattR), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

I played the remix on my radio show a week and a half ago, which you can still hear here ("uur 2"). Dima = Vitalic. Single out next week.

todd burns (toddburns), Sunday, 27 March 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

So this is like universally loved? And I should check it out? Fantastic.

djdee (djdee2005), Sunday, 27 March 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I like all of this record EXCEPT My Friend Dario!

whatever (nordicskilla), Sunday, 27 March 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

My Friend Dario's initial rush wore off for me, still love the vocals though.

what i liked best about the video: her shades, the helmets, the boots, the strobe light part, and the end.

modernaire, Sunday, 27 March 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

haha yeh, my friend dario is 'bagnin'. Overall it's an ok album but I'm not terribly excited about it. There is no stand out tracks for me but I like polkamatic very much, and there are some ok tracks like repair machines and u and i, I don't know.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Sunday, 27 March 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

listening to this makes me feel like a t-1000! at the disco!

etc, Monday, 28 March 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

isn't wooo a track that could have been made by the add n to x I got a little tired of, years ago, or is it me? it really seems like "it's me" and I worry; usually it's easy for me to agree with most of people on this thread! whimpers!

jmeister (jmeister), Thursday, 31 March 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe none of you have tried to sell me on this album (ie mail me tracks). I've been further enticed by '...Dario', which could become as classic as any of Miss Kittin's greats.

BARMS, Thursday, 31 March 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

'...Dario' is almost exactly what that dribble from Deep Dish last year should have been.

BARMS, Thursday, 31 March 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

Barima, you were at The End in January --> I am assuming that you are already sold!

I reviewed this for the new issue of Plan B, out next week please buy it kthxbye, and have put the review on the blog too.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 31 March 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

I've still only heard 4 tracks and only 1 is new to me besides. I could be anticipating an EP collection with filler for all I know.

BARMS, Thursday, 31 March 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

so when's this out then?

glenny g2003 (glenny g2003), Thursday, 31 March 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

Barima, take it from me, there is no filler.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 31 March 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

You said that about What Will The Neighbours Say? too.

BARMS, Thursday, 31 March 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

And I'm right about that too!

There are no ballads with acoustic guitars on OK Cowboy though.

Hystereo played 4 or 5 tracks off this at the weekend when they played for us. It was so good hearing it at a club.

I mean, besides the voices and Michael Jackson.

BARMS, Thursday, 31 March 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

the other night i was listening to this and i thought, maybe, The Past lays it on a bit too thick. yes i realise that is the point. it just, i dunno, seems a bit easy? to make a song and call it 'The Past' and make it the most schlockily maudlin thing ever. maybe i just wasn't in the right mood. i never think daft punk are being OTT like this. this album is pretty camp, really!

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 31 March 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

ha, did you watch the video above yet? this album's like the camp bible.

Did someone upthread say this was bound to be an anticlimax?

I don't know what insane level of expectation might have been reached, but I'm listening to this for the first time now, and it is the most exciting thing I have heard in FOREVER.

baboon2004 (baboon2004), Sunday, 24 April 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

agreed, this well exceeded my expectations...wonderful balance of visceral/ear candy and emotion/humanity...and perfect sequencing, as well (which is interesting, given that these songs were created at different times over the past 4 years)...he knows how to knock your head around, and when it gets too pounding, it becomes soothing and tranquil

yargh!! are there plans to release it domestically? this seems right up Vice's alley, no?

poortheatre (poortheatre), Friday, 6 May 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
About half of this album is absolutely spectacular ("Woo," "My Friend Dario," "Repair Machines," "The Past," and "No Fun" in particular) and the other half is totally lost on me (I never did get the big deal about "La Rock 01" or "Poney p1." or "Poney Pt. 2").

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

I kind of agree. I think they're good as club tracks but not so much on an album.

Better than anything is his remix of Bjørk's 'Who Is It', which is my favourite track of the year so far.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

ö not ø.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

aren't they a band from DC?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

i agree with you about who is it though, that is a dancefloor TERMINATOR!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

Could you YSI the Björk remix?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

I haven't heard it in on a dancefloor. I just can't stop listening to it on my iPod. The remix makes the phrasing on some lines just kill.

It's a download for the charity War Child. You can get it here.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I've ever heard a remix that does anything like this one does. It turns the vocal into something else entirely without really chopping it about at all. It's extraordinarily inventive.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 9 June 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

I'd passed on this.. on the basis that it probably didn't do anything else in the other bits which weren't the 30 second sample. So, I was very wrong then?

Damn you ILM!

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 9 June 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, totally wrong. There's lot's of rises and falls... it's very dynamic. This isn't Human After All.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 9 June 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

I think he's talking about the remix. It's the Björk in it that I love, not really the Vitalic. The synths sound kind of generic Vitalic. As I say, I think it's just amazingly sympathetic to her voice.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 9 June 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Sunday, 12 June 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

Just saw this quote from an interview on another forum:

"After the making of the Poney EP and La Rock 01 I was completely down. I felt lonely, had no inspiration and sought refuge in cocaine and alcohol. I used drugs to forget those tracks. The songs had become so popular that I got paralysed and was unable to make music anymore. My mother and my family really saved my life by sending me to a clicic. Now I am able again to make music, but it will never be as good as the Poney EP."

I really hate to admit this but he is right. :( All those new tracks on OK Cowboy start off amazing and then go nowhere.

i like getting lost in music

willem (willem), Monday, 13 June 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

I still don't really like the "Who Is It" remix a lot (now I've heard it in full). It's interesting how he's re-arranged parts of the vocals to sit in a more dance-friendly way on the back, mostly by spacing the lines out between bars. I'm not completely convinced that some very small parts haven't been re-sung for this either.

But (for me) the results aren't very comfortable, or that exciting. I mean, compare with that Soft Pink Truth mix from a while back of "It's In Our Hands", it just spanks this one.

fandango (fandango), Sunday, 26 June 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Now I am able again to make music, but it will never be as good as the Poney EP

I can't believe he said that either, but at the mo he's kinda right about at least half the album. That said, I do like the new remixes - they're fun. Not as much fun as 'Dario', which is possibly the most fun-filled tune of the year yet.

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Sunday, 26 June 2005 15:40 (nineteen years ago)
