RAW POWER is the only Stooges record that merits a 10/10.

i'd say "raw power" is the only one that doesn't merit a 10/10.

I dock Raw Power a point for the production and Stooges a point for the sequencing (I'd rather have We Will Fall at or towards the end, or replaced with a couple more rockers).

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Sunday, 13 March 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

i love "we will fall"

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Sunday, 13 March 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

It's good for what it is. I'd only give a ten to a record I can't thing of anything I'd want to change. I've can't think of any thing I'd want to change on Fun House. Now, if they'd have put "LA Blues" at track three...

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Sunday, 13 March 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

the debut is good. funhouse is one of the greatest records ever. raw power is a bore by comparison to either.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Sunday, 13 March 2005 06:03 (twenty years ago)

btw is that a krishna chant on "we will fall"??

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Sunday, 13 March 2005 07:28 (twenty years ago)

"btw is that a krishna chant on "we will fall"??"

I dunno, but we did the same chant in my kundalini yoga class.

Raw Power is the weakest Stooges album, but I still wouldn't kick it out of bed.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

Hello, another stooges thread? (OK, the last one was about expanded CD issues, but heck!)

As the first Stooges album I owned was the Complete FunHouse sessions, that's one I now love.

Raw Power is great too.

The first one, I played once. Yeah, its got "Dog" and "We will fall" but some of the othertracks were only 'pretty good' rather than 'great' by comparison. Maybe I'll dig it out and love it some more. As I said, I just got through another entire playingof the sessions CDs, so who knows.

mark grout (mark grout), Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

"No Fun" and "1969" only 'pretty good' ?? *head explodes*

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

raw power outtakes and pre-raw power demos > raw power

am i the only one who love's the production on raw power?

chris andrews (fraew), Sunday, 13 March 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

I like the original production, not the Iggy remix. That said, there's no fucking way that album merits a 10/10, especially considering Funhouse slays it.

The recently revived taking sides: _fun house_ or _raw power_

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 13 March 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

in the new rolling stone guide i gave fun house 5 stars and the debut and raw power both 4 stars. my brother-in-law gave me shit for giving the debut 4 stars instead of 5.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 13 March 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Rough power would probably sound more interesting on strong drugs.

Eleventy-Twelve (Eleventy-Twelve), Sunday, 13 March 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

I prefer David Bowie's version to either the remaster or Rough Power.

Eleventy-Twelve (Eleventy-Twelve), Sunday, 13 March 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

I agree w/ Scott and others: FH 10/5*, S/T 9/4*, RP 9/4*.

But "I Got A Right" (I think recorded after RP) rates an 11!

Now there's a man after my own heart. There's no way the debut gets a 5, tell your brother in law to go fuck himself.

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Sunday, 13 March 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

as a cobbled-together "4th album", Open Up And Bleed is one of the few non-studio records i would urge people to buy if they like the stooges:

http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,2557933,00.html

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 13 March 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

what tracks are on that, scott?

eman (eman), Sunday, 13 March 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Gotta disagree with you, Scott. After buying Open Up..., I realised I'd gone to the Stooges well once too often.

Vic Funk, Sunday, 13 March 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

open up and bleed has:

. Rubber Legs

2. Open Up And Bleed

3. Johanna

4. Cock In My Pocket

5. Head On

6. Cry For Me

7. Rich Bitch

8. Wet My Bed

9. I Got Nothing

10. Heavy Liquid / New Orleans

11. She Creatures Of The Hollywood Hills

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 13 March 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Maybe the first album wouldn't get a 100/100 on a 100 point scale, but giving it only a 4/5 on a five point scale is like giving it a "B" or an "A-." (I mean, technically it's an 80/100 which is a B-, but I don't read 4/5 that way.) It deserves an "A."

(I'm not giving you shit, Scott. I realize that you had to do the five point scale.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 13 March 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Fun House is so much better than Raw Power it's not even...er...funny.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 13 March 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

what's not funny?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Sunday, 13 March 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

Funhouse.

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 13 March 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Don't know if I'd give any of them a 10 but "Raw Power" was always my top listen because of the screeching noise production put on it by Bowie. Never liked the "Rough Power" examples or Iggy being allowed to redo the thing so it would sound like an average hard rock record from the period. And Scott has the best recommendation from the Stooges after-action collections.

My take on Stooges mania

from www.atpfestival.com

We are delighted to announce two special shows on the 5th anniversary of Don’t Look Back and as part of our 10 years of ATP celebrations. It is a great honour to present Iggy and the Stooges performing Raw Power in its entirety at the Hammersmith Apollo on May 2 and May 3 2010.

Hammersmith Apollo was the venue that kicked off the first DLB five years ago with The Stooges performing Fun House, described by some as the best gig in London in many years and also by Iggy Pop himself as one of the top three gigs of his life.

Raw Power is one the best records ever made with gems like Gimme Danger and Search And Destroy so it doesn’t get much better than this, and tickets details will be revealed next week.

Also note that in the coming weeks we will be announcing two very special support acts both performing LPs as part of these two shows.

Stay tuned for details........

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 4 September 2009 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

I'm about as excited about the umpteenth million Rolling Stones tour as I am about this.

Alex in SF, Friday, 4 September 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

I'd be much more interested to see them do the "Open up and Bleed" material. There are some great songs buried in there.

Soukesian, Friday, 4 September 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

"[band] performing [name of album] in its entirety" can suk my balls at this point

am0n, Friday, 4 September 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I don't even get it for a new album. I don't want to hear an album replayed track 1 to 10 or whatever live. How fucking by the numbers can you get?

Alex in SF, Friday, 4 September 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

they could play that Schoolhouse Rock song about numbers

OTM Level III (latebloomer), Saturday, 5 September 2009 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

I'm sure there aren't all that many reading this who really don't have some reformed band/album performance combo in the back of their mind that would induce them to swallow their pride and lay out the cash for a ticket. (Yeah, yeah, you only care about this week's top forty. Right. Sure.)

Soukesian, Saturday, 5 September 2009 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

i've done it, but i will not do it again.

samosa gibreel, Saturday, 5 September 2009 19:40 (sixteen years ago)

after the ultra goodness of Dino Jr, Sleep, Jesus Lizard reformations i no longer have any qualms about any sort of reformation.

Man Is Nairf! (J0hn D.), Saturday, 5 September 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

I mean there're bands who since I'm probably never going to see them anyway if they came out and said "we're doing the one album everybody likes best" I'd go see 'em, ok fine, but that doesn't make "performing this album in its entirety" any less played-out & boring, and I am not one of those "I only listen to what's current" dudes, I just think the "performing such-and-such an album in its entirety" conceit is exactly the sort of false gravitas that I'm not interested in when it comes to a live show

Man Is Nairf! (J0hn D.), Saturday, 5 September 2009 20:29 (sixteen years ago)

I'd love to see a Stooges reunion for the same reason I paid to go see the Throbbing Gristle reunion ...but, the idea of Raw Power in its entirety doesn't excite me that much, even though there are a lot of good songs on it, there are also really good songs on other albums.

what happened? i am confused. (sarahel), Saturday, 5 September 2009 20:36 (sixteen years ago)

agree. better/tighter songwriting. more focus. better guitars.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Friday, 18 September 2009 09:59 (fifteen years ago)

Just about any band is going to look foolish going on first here, but I'm dying to see what kind pathetically awful 'special guests' they tack onto the end of a Stooges/Suicide bill.

Is there an utterly hopeless band out there, who just happen to feature the children or lover of a major record label exec? Helps if they've had a lot of glossy coverage in non-music sections of the press.

Soukesian, Friday, 18 September 2009 11:29 (fifteen years ago)

Who is in the Stooges now, with Ron Asheton passing away?

Is James Williamson playing, since it's Raw Power?

Colonel Poo, Friday, 18 September 2009 11:35 (fifteen years ago)

yes.

Mark G, Friday, 18 September 2009 11:37 (fifteen years ago)

I'd like to go to this, but this is a really bad time for tickets to go on sale. Mind you pretty much all of 2009 has been a bad time for tickets to go on sale tbh. Oh well.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 18 September 2009 11:39 (fifteen years ago)

Spiritualised seem to be in with the ATP crowd now, they seem like an obvious surprise guest that could conceivably justify an announcement.

...and it's good for the environment! (aldo), Friday, 18 September 2009 11:55 (fifteen years ago)

Good guess. And wouldn't come up looking so foolish.

(Still have painful memories of seeing Suicide supported by top ZTT artistes Das Psch-Oh Rangers, though)

There is also a deluxe version of Raw Power due next April from Sony Legacy, featuring David Bowie's original mix (which, interestingly, has been out of print since Iggy's last remix in the 1990s), as well as a book (executive producer Matheu says he envisions something like the recent Miles Davis Kind of Blue set) and a board tape of an October 1973 show from an Atlanta club.

Good news. Iggy ruined that album with his "all knobs to the max" mix.

and a board tape of an October 1973 show from an Atlanta club

This sounds interesting.

Duke, Sunday, 18 October 2009 19:47 (fifteen years ago)

This is an argument beaten to death on at least a couple of other threads, but I actually like Iggy's knob to the max mix, and if you don't, you know where you can stick it.

The best version of Raw Power was recorded by me in 1990 onto a TDK cassette with the levels a little too loud. For optimum audio performance, this recording should be played on one of those big yellow "sports" walkmans and heard through headphones held together with duct tape. Audiophiles are advised to wear an oversized army surplus jacket and a bad haircut while nervously smoking cigarettes outside the library of a small liberal arts college.

They're gonna perform with ABBA, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff and The Hollies at the R&R Hall of Fame induction ceremony, March 15, 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City and will air live on Fuse, Madison Square Garden’s national music television network. From the linked press release:

...the Bowie mix always had a weird combination of murk and tinnyness to it...

Exactly! I own Ig's remix and have listened to it, like, 1 1/2 times. It just sounds wrong.

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

Well, if you 'grew up' with the Bowie mix, I can see why.

I didn't, and I enjoyed the IgMix (if ever an album needed to be supercondensed/whatever, it's that one), and eventually got a Bowiemix CD (they have never been pricey on ebay), thought it.. alright actually.

Wouldn't pick one over the other.

What reaction did people have to the 'non-closet' mix of the Velvet Underground album?

Mark G, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 09:18 (fifteen years ago)

non-closet is better imo ... don't think it's quite as radical as the iggy raw power mix tho, aside from having a different take of "some kinda love" ...

tylerw, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

Already have RP on LP and CD, both mixes, so I'd only get this if the live CD makes it worthwhile.

That said, I still haven't plucked up the courage/cash to buy this one: http://www.easyaction.co.uk/detail.php?catno=EARS023

Duke, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

Well, I "grew up" with the Bowie Raw Power in as much as I though most of it sounded shit the first time I heard it in 1983, and rarely listened to after that. Rediscovered the songs through awful live bootlegs - which still sounded better than Bowie's version- and I reach for the Iggy mix if I want to hear it now.

But, in the end, it's a matter of taste.

Soukesian, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

so this live show they're offering -- it hasn't been bootlegged before? Or is it old news to Stogges fanatics?

tylerw, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

I've never heard about a possible soundboard recording from that October 1973 show in Atlanta, color me hella excited.

StanM, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

V interested to hear Asheton and Williamson on dual guitars.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 18:54 (fifteen years ago)

That's on that Easy Action box set - it's great, but the sound is very very average. You do tend to get used to mediocre quality after about half a song of these audience recordings, but it's still hard work.

StanM, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

and that sounds cool!

tylerw, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 19:13 (fifteen years ago)

I could never get on with the bowie mix. it's just so gutless and flimsy - so much so that I mistakenly considered raw power to be a pretty poor album for a long time.

once I heard the maxed out iggy version it all made a lot more sense...

(would still put it second to fun house though)

m the g, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 20:01 (fifteen years ago)

Both mixes are/were just different shades of bad: The exact midpoint (midrange) between Exile on Main Street and White Light/White Heat. I really don't think I'm gonna pay money to acquire this a third time

Iggy mix is a digitally distorted abortion. Get the 180g RAW POWER from Sundazed and crank it. The best it will ever sound.

ian zamboni, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)

hmm didn't know sundazed had done that...is that a reissue of the bowie mix?

I don't even think you can technically press the Iggy mix on vinyl.

lukevalentine, Thursday, 4 February 2010 11:14 (fifteen years ago)

why didnt they release the original rough mixes of RP that you can get on (bad quality) bootleg? seems like a missed opportunity/fan fleecing opp.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 4 February 2010 11:20 (fifteen years ago)

That'll be the brand-new deluxe version for 2011 - the fan fleecing with this record is ridiculous. I'd rather get fleeced by a good 1 or 2-disc distillation of that Funhouse box.

Brio, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:14 (fifteen years ago)

I've got that^

It is cool, but I listen to OG Funhouse way more.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:17 (fifteen years ago)

That's disc 2 of the Funhouse CD isn't it?

Mark G, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:21 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know, I've never really sat down with the Funhouse box.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

Oh I see what you mean, that deluxe Funhouse reissue that came out a couple of years ago. Yeah, I think it might be.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

No, the 2nd disk of the 2cd Funhouse has some of the same takes, but not all of them (e.g. "Dirt [Take 1]" vs. "Dirt [Take 4]").

Euler, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

ah

Mark G, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:37 (fifteen years ago)

The 2CD First Album is one of those where you can swap out the 'short' versions for the new 'long' versions, and it's not wrong!

Mark G, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:38 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe a moot point in the interweb/reunion era, but do you think the Stooges' mystique has been destroyed by all this stuff? There was something kind of perfect about their initial 3-album run as it stood, as flawed as it was.

Brio, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

Dunno, i think their 'mystique' would have become more and more forgotten about.

At least those guys are/were alive for long enough.

Mark G, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

The Weirdness had the potential to destroy more of their mystique than reissues and remasters of the good stuff, but everyone seems to forgivingly sweep it under the carpet.

StanM, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I think the Stooges are one of those bands whose mystique is pretty strong, regardless of what reunion stuff goes on (tho I've heard the reunion shows are great). Like Big Star -- remember how they put out a new album a few years back? Everyone forgot about that pretty fast.

tylerw, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, all true - just wondering if part of what made The Stooges special was that there wasn't all that much to see or hear of 'em. Just in a pure supply and demand sense, scarcity = value. Don't know if it makes sense, just something I've been thinking about in a general sense about the easy access to everything now. I know it's an old discussion, just on my mind right now.

Brio, Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:13 (fifteen years ago)

There's been masses of Stooges bootlegs for years though.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:14 (fifteen years ago)

Haha. Second! I'd like to see some tape of interviews with bands that played with the Stooges and recollections -- like Alvin Lee of Ten Years After or someone from a southern rock band.

Gorge, Thursday, 11 March 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah but I bet the DVD will have some prime live footage from the 73-74 era. I do believe I need it. $60, not bad considering the $110 + fees + airfare + hotel + food + transport to show and back I'd have to spend to see them at All Tomorrow's Parties.

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 11 March 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think that there is any live footage at all from 73-74, though I'd love to be proved wrong.

along with the raw power reissue there's also this: http://www.rhino.com/shop/product/the-stooges-the-stooges-collectors-edition?CMPID=EMC-RH032310
$50! Does anyone actually buy these things?

tylerw, Thursday, 25 March 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)

comments are pretty lol
I dislike 7" x 7" packaging! It is too big and bulky to fit on a CD shelf. I like to keep all my CDs by an artist together in one place, but this kind of packaging prevents that. I've purchased 7" x 7" packaging by Rhino before and was very unhappy with it so I will not be buying this. If it were in a deluxe 5" packaging I would buy this in a heartbeat.

tylerw, Thursday, 25 March 2010 00:52 (fifteen years ago)

Does anyone actually buy these things?

Pretty sure it's the same dudes who go nuts for "Japanese mini-LP sleeve editions" of easy-to-find albums, dudes who seem like they got stuck on something and their collector-urges got perverted into buying the same albums over and over in ever more expensive editions.

Regarding price, I saw the 2CD Legacy Edition for $15.99, only slightly more than what most single discs go for. It's annoying that the Deluxe Edition doesn't have the complete set of sessions from that era. Anyone have a tracklisting of the bonus/rarities disc? How does "I Got A Right" and "I'm Sick Of You" sound? Anything included from their Rubber Legs bootleg?

willem, Tuesday, 20 April 2010 08:36 (fifteen years ago)

There was plenty of room on that disc for remasters of other sessions from that era, like Rubber Legs, Open Up And Bleed, Johanna, Cock In My Pocket, Cry For Me, Rich Bitch, Wet My Bed, I Got Nothing, Heavy Liquid, She Creatures of the Hollywood Hills, Gimme Some Skin, Scene Of The Crime, Kill City, Sell Your Love, Beyond The Law, Consolation Prizes, No Sense Of Crime, Lucky Monkeys, Master Charge, Jesus Loves The Stooges. In an interview, Iggy hinted that they might revisit the cream of that material with new recordings. As long as it's done better than the last Stooges album, that might be cool.

I have both the vinyl and the new Legacy reissue, and they mostly sound the same except the new master makes a few things stand out better, such as the drums on "Gimme Danger".

banaka, Thursday, 22 April 2010 02:10 (fifteen years ago)

xpost

There's something to be said for that. My experience was similar with the original vinyl on a cheap stereo. If you turned that up in your bedroom to suitable volumne, your ears didn't bleed but the effect was the same. So when you're young and hear something with that audacity and impact, it forms an
inderadicable structure.

Gorge, Thursday, 22 April 2010 02:11 (fifteen years ago)

Sonic quality aside, the way they put the CDs into the gatefold black thingy in the deluxe edition = vv fiddly to get them out. :-/

StanM, Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:23 (fifteen years ago)

omg, that live disc. <3 <3 <3

I've got tons of boots (all of the Bomp ones, the Heavy Liquid box, etc) but this is by far the best sounding recording of their 1973 live shambolic genius, warts & all (e.g. guitar not plugged in during Raw Power?).

StanM, Saturday, 24 April 2010 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

yeah the live is fantastic, worth buying just for that.
8 days until they play Raw Power in london two nights in a row :-)

Jamie_ATP, Saturday, 24 April 2010 13:40 (fifteen years ago)

I'm such a sucker for the Stooges, I had to get this. This is now the 3rd copy of this album I own. I also have an 80s vinyl edition and Iggy's terrible mix. Just listening to the album, looking forward to the live disc, the main reason (excuse) for buying this.

Stan, can you say anything more about the Heavy Liquid box? (without wanting to derail thread). I've been tempted several times, but keep holding back. I have the Rubber Legs vinyl LP from way back and a late 90s 2-disc comp called Head On. Do I really need any more of that stuff?

Duke, Saturday, 24 April 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

You've got the main bulk of the rehearsal songs with those two (the first three discs on Heavy Liquid (and the BOMP rehearsal albums) contain different takes of the same tracks) and with the 2nd disc of the Raw Power deluxe edition you're going to have a better sounding show than the ones you can find on the last three Heavy Liquid discs (and the live BOMP albums), so no, you don't need the Heavy Liquid box.

However, if you suddenly discover that the two studio and one live versions of (insert any Stooges song here) you know are all brilliant in their own way and you find you can't pick your favourite of those three, you're lost and you'll need to acquire all of the alternative takes and horrible audience recordings to not miss any other versions. In that case, yes, you need the Heavy Liquid box.

StanM, Saturday, 24 April 2010 20:29 (fifteen years ago)

(sorry) :-)

StanM, Saturday, 24 April 2010 20:30 (fifteen years ago)

Cheers - I now know that I'm covered!

I'm on to the live disc now, and it's fantastic. I only have the Metallic 2xKO double disc, and was always disappointed with the guitar-less sound. This is great

Duke, Saturday, 24 April 2010 20:47 (fifteen years ago)

The DVD's not too bad. Pretty interesting stories about the making of and the struggle with MainMain. Iggy even gets a little teary-eyed at the end about how the album and band finally got recognition after all these years.

StanM, Sunday, 25 April 2010 22:31 (fifteen years ago)

Gotta say, now that I have both versions, I prefer the Iggy mix.

thirdalternative, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:36 (fifteen years ago)

I wonder what would have happened if they'd took the master tapes and had a current producer make a totally new mix alltogether. Don't know if the ultimate mix is possible though. It's like Rock Action says on the dvd, the album is bigger than both these mixes.

StanM, Monday, 26 April 2010 15:21 (fifteen years ago)

I first heard the Iggy mix around the time I was was getting into High Rise/Mainliner/etc, so it always sounded pretty great to me.

― StanM, Saturday, 24 April 2010 13:14 (2 days ago)

Yeah, there's definitely something wrong with the guitar during the first couple of tracks -- a faulty cable or something. It does give us a nice insight into Ron's bass skills, though, which I'm enjoying. A great disc.

Duke, Monday, 26 April 2010 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

OK, I guess I'm a bit out of the loop here. Clearly I have some catching up to do!

I was aware of three RP's: 1. The original mix, broadcast on the radio prior to the LP release. 2. The Bowie mix ultimately released, and 3. Iggy's re-mix. I gather that there is a new one. This is a momentous event!

That WABX radio thing wasn't a complete mix yet. This new one is a remaster of the Bowie mix (that includes two tracks mixed by Iggy, like the original release). Or something.

London show last night was amazing. setlist below. sounds silly but it was so amazing that it didn't feel like much could have changed quality/attitude wise between their 70s performances and now, other than the fact that they look different and nowadays people like them. Can't wait for the second show tonight. Also Suicide were mindnumbing, mindblowing, hilarious and pissed off and a great great support.

willem, Monday, 3 May 2010 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

maybe thats a typo, i copied and pasted. i dont remember it being that short but then it was all a bit of a blur

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 3 May 2010 13:26 (fifteen years ago)

That really is a dream set. I want to believe. I wish they'd play a dive bar in my town.

Trip Maker, Monday, 3 May 2010 13:28 (fifteen years ago)

If memory serves, I think the radio broadcast of RP was referred to as 'un-mixed' or words to that effect. However, I think it was the mix Iggy wanted to use & thought was going to be used, so it may only be 'un-mixed' in hindsight. I think I have a boot tape of that sucker someplace...

four months pass...

I'm hearing this album tonight for the first time in my life. I knew 'Seek and Destroy' and 'Shake Appeal'.

This record is so good. Now I feel full of life and nowhere to go to but bed.

Bed is the last place I'd go after hearing Raw Power unless I had someone/thing to fuck.

That's my point... now I feel crushed and lonely but full of life. I'll keep on listening for another hour and hump my pillow later.

This revive is so sad but true.

The show was cathartic. Iggy went into the audience numerous times, allowing plenty of people had the opportunity to dry-hump his leathery hide. Alas I didn't partake, as it was over 100 degrees in the Riviera that night, and many fat, 40-60+ year-old men decided to take off their shirts and give everyone around them sweaty-greasy-backhair brillo-pad-facial-scrubs. I maintained a safe 8 feet or so from the edge of the mosh pit.

Fastnbulbous, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

The show was moved from 4,500 capacity Aragon to 2,500 Riviera, because they couldn't sell enough tickets. Iggy. And. The. Stooges. Could. Not. Sell. Enough. Tickets. We're all fucking doomed.

Fastnbulbous, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

well lots of his fans overdosed within the last 20 years
