Well, we all know that deriving pleasure and enjoyment from music isn't nearly as much fun as making the listener feel as miserable as possible, don't we? As if there weren't enough reminders around ramming it into our heads on a daily basis that "most things in the world are not enjoyable."

dissensus ate the ILX grime threads. which i feel a bit sad about.
i personally feel that ILM is my favourite board for music and anything and i would prefer to read it to any music magazine, other webzine etc.
remember that there have been times when ILE people have been rather snooty about ILM but the mixture of banality, vitriol. hive mind, stupid jokes, boredom, barren periods, excitement, knowledge, advice and interesting arguments about music are what draws me to ILX. and I havent found anythign else that does all of those things to the same degree. eg Dissensus is not "silly" at all, therefore like green and blacks 70% cocoa chocolate, i can only take a bit at a time.

They can even pepper it up, especially as their moronic qualities are suitably lumpen and nicely shade the hair-shirt accusations the board is fielding...
But *really* it's probably better that if people find a thread goes over their head, or they dont (sic) have the stomach for it dont (sic) comment.

Did anyone else buy that Urban Latino comp from last year? It was like a musical accompaniment to Rockist Scientist's "you got some reggaeton in my salsa" thesis. Luvvit, mostly (esp. the Latino bits which sound inspired by early Darkchild).
As discussed in some thread earlier I tend to love reggaeton-pop remixes more than most actual reggaeton but I think that's a lot to do with where my head's at.
― Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)
On the other hand, I downloaded September's top ten reggaeton songs (according to something called LMP--does anyone know what that is?), and from what I heard of them (I skimmed), they were all pretty awful.
I like some of the new Vico C album though. As far as pretty standard issue reggaeton goes, the last thing I heard that I liked was Judiny Ft Aguakate - "Tu Bomper Mami."

perhaps the clever popist retort wd be to say that currently reggaeton music qua reggaeton music (as with dancehall before as with everything before) is filtering thru to the mainstream with exactly that same abstracted idealism in mind.
whatever i think of 'get to poppin', i'm kinda unsure how it falls under even psudoreggaeton. do tell!

― xhuxk, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)
i don't buy it. like, while no one can deny r-ton's directly caused a resurgence in latino pride(/melancholy) in all sorts of musics, the handy caprice of explicitly extending its boundaries so far (and so seemingly inclusively) also completely deads any discussion as to investigating exactly "what the story is."
to be fair tho it's an xcellent statement in the context of that rvw alone; as a 'definition', as a validation of 'get to poppin', i feel it's just gone too far.
ALSO i can't really hear how 'gtp' is melancholy in that same way anyway! and perhaps i'm looking too hard at timbaland and not the track here but it's never struck me with any particular ethnological evocativeness even while i'm dimly aware of what sort of origin the sample bears. it's like any lazy tabla track from 03 to me, which is mainly why i thought dj rupture's raptures over it was a load of balls frankly

i think it's easier to extend the umbrella to cover reggaeton artists (don omar) making or being involved in songs which are perhaps sonically at variance with the genre, but extending it to get to poppin - where none of the artists involved have had anything to do with reggaeton, where the sample isn't even from a reggaeton track - is more dubious.
(i like get to poppin btw)
