thoughts on Nelly Furtado/Timbaland collaboration "Promiscuous Girl"? You can get it here (for now, anyway), and I think it's amazing. It makes me excited for:
A) Nelly's new album (late March)
B) the state of the club banga in 2006
C) the future overuse of the phrase "you're game MVP like steve nash" (as rollie mentioned)

Is it just me?

davelus (davelus), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 04:33 (nineteen years ago)

well, it certainly aint me.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

We started discussing it and maneater here already but a new thread is fine I suppose.
I'm not sure what this has to do with the 'state of the club banger' considering i'm not aware of any clubs currently banging it but as far as the state of Timbaland it is good news for sure.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 04:42 (nineteen years ago)

both of these songs...bleh...tim's new drum sounds are ass.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 05:14 (nineteen years ago)

I am freaking out about "Promiscuous Girl" less than I was when I first heard it - I listened to that Timbo/Lil Kim song a few days ago and now "Promiscuous Girl" kinda sounds like a poor man's version of that. Still, unless I'm totally blanking on something it's got to be the best Timbaland track since that song (no I didn't like "The Potion"), and it's easily the most interesting thing I can imagine being on that normal-folks radio thing I never actually listen to, if only for those "background vocals" in the second verse (LOW).

Also, I predict that every DJ in Los Angeles will be forced to transition directly from it into "Hollaback Girl" out of sheer lack of creativity.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 05:15 (nineteen years ago)

i'm happy to open up my overenthusiasm to ILM too-cool-isms... yes, hollaback girl will either follow or lead into this song way more than it should. James + deej, I'm with you on this as far as Timbo goes
but while there are things to like about Maneater it doesnt thrill me as much - if only it were the Hall+Oates cover I had imagined...

davelus (davelus), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

I like both these new Furtado songs, though the harmonies on the chorus of "Maneater" bug me for some reason.

Englebert Humperdinck Fan Club President (R. J. Greene), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 05:39 (nineteen years ago)

if only it were the Hall+Oates cover I had imagined...

Truth! The only thing sadder will be when the Richard X/Annie "Two Of Hearts" turns out to not be a Stacy Q cover.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 05:43 (nineteen years ago)

I never liked "The Jump Off" very much. I prefer Timbaland when he sounds widescreen to his more hyper-compressed dirty tracky efforts. "Maneater" actually reminds me of a mixture of the stuff from the second Bubba Sparxxx album (stripped of country affectations) or perhaps "Hola Hovito". Also maybe Timbaland has been inspired by the homages to his "3D drums" attack on productions by Tim & Bob, plus whoever did "Get To Poppin".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 06:07 (nineteen years ago)

I suppose "Maneater" is the single, isn't it? I find myself liking "Promiscuous Girl" better.

Englebert Humperdinck Fan Club President (R. J. Greene), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 06:12 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
both of those tracks are incredible. any more info on the album so far?

sovpanda, Thursday, 30 March 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

i am liking "maneater".

mts (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 30 March 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

This song was created because hollaback girl is still popular and radio stations need to meet their CANCON quotas.

jackl (jackl), Friday, 31 March 2006 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

got a feeling it's going to be a long year of me arguing how much better "Maneater" is than "Promiscuous Girl"

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 31 March 2006 03:55 (nineteen years ago)

Me too - no debate really

Le Baaderonixx de Benedict Canyon (baaderonixx), Friday, 31 March 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

i still haven't heard 'promiscuous girl'! 'maneater', however, is just about the best pop single i've heard this year.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 31 March 2006 09:14 (nineteen years ago)

I was actually relieved to discover I thought Maneater was rubbish. It's really, really clumsy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 March 2006 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

b-b-but "she says she luv ya luv ya long time"!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 31 March 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

Sidenote: Between "Maneater" and "Black Sweat", is this the year of awesome open hat sounds?

Rodney's motives are beyond the comprehension of men (R. J. Greene), Friday, 31 March 2006 19:45 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously! That open hat beat makes me do an involuntary (but enjoyable) head bob every time it comes around. I'm sure I look like a chicken here in my cubicle at work.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 31 March 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

"Promiscuous Girl" is just awesome.

++++, Monday, 3 April 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
i just saw the promiscuous boy video and nelly furtado amazingly looks SEXY in it! i really like the song, neither timbaland nor nelly seem like promiscuous ppl at all, theyre both kind of nerdy and i like them. i have no idea why theyre pretending to be promiscous! is it to downplay the intensity of their attraction?! it is a song worth talking about you dull/bitter clowns - fuck you and your jaded vaudeville act!

karri miback (cruisy), Sunday, 4 June 2006 05:44 (nineteen years ago)

i shd add that i really like how promiscuous girl keeps the slightly mystical 'world music' rocks & hills vibe of that annoying worthy album that nelly did last time, just enough that it sez 'THIS IS NELLY' but leaves out 'and check out how wholesome i am', and then those synths in the chorus are so melancholy, its so much more of a love song than a promiscuity song.

karri miback (cruisy), Sunday, 4 June 2006 05:57 (nineteen years ago)

hi marissa

rtccc (mwah), Sunday, 4 June 2006 07:15 (nineteen years ago)

the new song 'say right' is better than both PG and Maneater

splates (splates), Sunday, 4 June 2006 07:33 (nineteen years ago)

aargh courtney corpse?! that totally ruins it!!

karri miback (cruisy), Sunday, 4 June 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

I assumed everyone always thought they looked similar.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 4 June 2006 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

Does it make any difference that the song is actually called "Promiscuous" and not "Promiscuous Girl"?

pleased to mitya (mitya), Sunday, 4 June 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

the mix is different to the one that emerged a few months ago. there are new strings on the chorus and the outro is different. these changes only make the track better. it is so brilliant.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Sunday, 4 June 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

crazy

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 4 June 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I'm not crazy. That's nice to know.

It's Rodney, pimp! (R. J. Greene), Monday, 5 June 2006 02:04 (nineteen years ago)

Maneater, Promiscuous and especially Say It Right are fantastic! If the rest tracks are only 3/4 as good, "Loose" would probably be album for the year for me.

daavid (daavid), Monday, 5 June 2006 02:51 (nineteen years ago)

There's a spanish language track floating around , "No Hay Eguale", which is the same league as those tracks...

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Monday, 5 June 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

Should someone tell Toni Basil about "Maneater, Mickey Work Hard, Mickey Spend Hard, Oh Mickey You're So Fine"?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 5 June 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

"No Hay Iguale" is fantastic! I like it better than both "Maneater" and "Promiscuous", though those are clearly awesome as well.

Roz (Roz), Monday, 5 June 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

the video is fun. although clearly not hot, sensual or anything (she really seems geeky in her wanabee hot moves). timbaland seems very nice and easy. and i like the "what the hell is JT doing here" idea.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 5 June 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

"No Hay Iguale" is fantastic!

I need to hear this. This has actually been released as a single to Spanish-language stations. (There was sort of a three-pronged approach here: Spanish stations in the US got "No Hay Iguale," English stations in the US got "Promiscuous," and the rest of the world got "Maneater.")

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 5 June 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm, 'Say it Right' is the song where Timbaland's Coldplay obsession finally shines through...

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

i like the intro to 'im like a bird'

i see marcello isn't a fan! on my first couple of listens i'd say it's the pop album of the year so far, personally.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

^Agreed! I dont like the song now. I've been told the asian guy from that commercial was in Hook.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

Best NF song is still "Turn out the Lights" or her song with Ms Jade.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

OK, I'm listening to the album right now and half of it is fantastic. 'Glow' (big bassy dance track) might be the best thing on this. OTOH, there are quite a few dodgy ballads.

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Friday, 9 June 2006 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

yeah there's maybe 8 good tracks, the rest is dodgy ballads.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 9 June 2006 06:26 (nineteen years ago)

To be fair I did say in my TO review that it was the best pop album of 2006, though admittedly I did add the codicil: "with the exception of all the other ones."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 9 June 2006 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'd originally been so bowled over by Maneater that I may have taken Promiscuous for granted, but now I'm finding it hard to choose a favorite between the two.

Now that I've heard the whole album, though, I think Afraid might be the best track to come out of this whole production.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

"Promiscuous" is the jam! I keep going to Nelly F.'s site to bump it at my desk. It makes me want to go hear it in a club! (The lyrics are stoopid, though.)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 23:53 (nineteen years ago)

Bought the album today on strength of "Maneater" and "Promiscuous", but I just cannot stop myself from listening to "No Hay Igual" over and over again - it's making me want to speak Spanish in a way that "Hips Don't Lie" cannot.

danzig (danzig), Thursday, 15 June 2006 03:42 (nineteen years ago)

even though it's in portuguese! impressive. i think i might love 'no hay igual' even more than 'maneater' and 'promiscuous'.

some of the slower timbaland productions...this is where his coldplay love is coming out, for the second time after the last brandy album - like that, though, the results are really good. even when they get chris martin himself on to strum the guitar on the last track.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:10 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, I'm starting to think thi albums leans more toward teh dud... The coldplay ballads and the Juanes duet are horrendous.

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:20 (nineteen years ago)

"no hay igual" is in SPANISH not portuguese. Nelly might be Portuguese-Canadian but she can sing in spanish.

danzig (danzig), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:53 (nineteen years ago)

The album's out?

It's Rodney, pimp! (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 15 June 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

"Ching Ching" (also Timbaland!) is the only song featuring Ms. Furtado I've ever liked.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Thursday, 15 June 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

i don't like the "holla back" bit on "promiscuous". hip-pop self-referentialiZm jumps it's 50th shark. "maneater" is one of the tunes of the year, it almost sounds better on these distorted pc phones.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 15 June 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

i here some fergie "my humps" in this song

obviously ms. furtado doesn't have much of a voice since she just goes with the trends. that said, I can't get enough of promiscuous! woooo!

summer jam!

boonah (boonah), Thursday, 15 June 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't think she was trendcoasting on her first two albums.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Friday, 16 June 2006 00:47 (nineteen years ago)

no, she was totally riding the trend of people named Nelly making popular music.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 16 June 2006 01:40 (nineteen years ago)

People who follow trends can't sing! Supreme Logic.

It's Rodney, pimp! (R. J. Greene), Friday, 16 June 2006 07:37 (nineteen years ago)

It makes me want to go hear it in a club!

otm. I have to make do with dancing along with the people in the verizon commercial.
I like 'no hay igual'(and 'the glow'...the love? ahem?). maneater sounds average in comparison but I don't hate it. there are some good ballads in there amongst the dreck too, can't wait for this.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Friday, 16 June 2006 07:49 (nineteen years ago)

The album's been out everywhere this week except the US, I think. The US versions are also missing the fabulous flamenco-tinged "Somebody To Love".

danzig (danzig), Friday, 16 June 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

"maneater" also made me think of toni bazil, but not of fran drescher, also a relevant call, somehow, or is it rather more mylène farmer?

The hollaback girl = good call. but there is also somewhat of a AREweapons does t-rex darque side to it, isn't it? and the chorus musiking: how to shot Final Fantasy VI? so, what's the ultimate formula for that song?

S. (Sébastien Chikara), Monday, 26 June 2006 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

there's some Laibach in there too (ie. the harmonies on rhe chorus)

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Monday, 26 June 2006 05:56 (nineteen years ago)

There's also some unlistenable bullshit in there. It's very catchy unlistenable bullshit, but unlistenable bullshit nevertheless. "No Hay Igual" is more successful on practically every front (I think "Maneater" being at ploddy stomp tempo is key to my dislike).

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 June 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

Dan's caviling sounds a lot like Thomas Inskeep's, who said he bought the album on Friday and returned it to the used-cd store on Saturday. The album was unrelentingly mediocre, he said.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

I like the album. The only song I dislike is the latin ballad and even that's not particularly offensive, just too far on the "meh" side.

It's Rodney, now in amazing 2-D! (R. J. Greene), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

Inskeep hates what other people like just because they like it!

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

So disliking "Maneater" is akin to disliking the entire album, eh?

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

Loose is a case where a mediocre album becomes better after extended exposure, although I'm not sure I'll ever warm up to any of the ballads.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

that song is a bit of a mess no doubt about it. when comes the chorus I get nervous at the cacophony. oh and who's that synth like, the one over the 16 bit FF " opera house" during the chorus, somethng italo maybe.

: re stomp tempo: I would like to hear it slowed down , cosmic treatment, and effects, amirite?

S. (Sébastien Chikara), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 04:32 (nineteen years ago)

The first track is pretty bad I thought. Nelly's vocal on it is bizarre.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 05:24 (nineteen years ago)

maneater's synth in the chorus towards the end made me think "rational youth" .

S. (Sébastien Chikara), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 06:24 (nineteen years ago)

The first track is one of my favourites. In fact, I listen to the first three tracks then skip back to the start. I don't think I've even made it to a ballad yet.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 07:07 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the first track is pretty good I'd say. I think iTunes is mostly to blame for my dislike of this album. The shuffle somehow always picks the ballads...

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 07:22 (nineteen years ago)

do you guys inlcude "say it right" in the ballads ? i really like that one. and i also have a shameful feeling for the one cowritten with coldplay...
apart from the 3 great singles, "do it" might be my favorite. very 80s madonna's synth-pop with massive and great drums.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

the coldplay one - the last one, right? - is completely great and sweeping and epic.

i love the opener too! although the random interpolation of 'it's the end of the world as we know it' is unnecessary and wrong. but the spacey feel is a great scene-setter.

'no hay igual' rules all, however.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

ah ! someone to share my shame with !
i totally agree with you, the track has a great "cosmic" and fatalist vibe. the production is great (the peruvian flutes or whatever it is). i love her voice when she sings the kind of bridge the second time, towards the end of the song. like it's a single very raw and sweet track very in front in the mix.
great ending for the album. adds some "profondeur" to an otherwise great superficial album.
i should send this message to coldplay (from now on, i will do like timbaland and call chris martin like that !).

"nohay igual" is also great. the first one is amongst the ones i don't like much. but i agree that the album gets better with every listen so it may grow on me.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

Is that Bubba on 'Afraid', or just someone who sounds a LOT like him?

Flyboy (Flyboy), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

"Afraid" is completely awesome! Nelly's voice sounds "wierd" because she's using her head voice for most of it and isn't nasally belting like she usually does (see also "Promiscuous" for more head voice goodness).

"Te Busque" is also great. The album is pretty much completely great except for "Maneater", which is very catchy but not that fun to listen to.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

"maneater" not fun ?
and I find the album version even better than the single's. I love the breakdown at the end.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

"do it" might be my favorite. very 80s madonna's synth-pop with massive and great drums.

Actually, listening to it just now - i t remind sme of a Paula Abdul album track. I'm not sure yet whether that is a good or a bad thing.

"Te Busque" OTOH I simply cannot listen to.

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

(see also "Promiscuous" for more head voice goodness)

yes yes yes! the last chorus - shifted up a semitone i think? unexpectedly sweet and soaring and powerful, very christina milian-esque.

I love the breakdown at the end.

yes yes yes! it sounds like 'poney pt 1'.

'do it' reminded me of 'cherish' the first time i heard it.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

"Te busque" might be the worst track of the album. neither can I listen to it.
about "do it" : Paula abdul ? hum. dunno her enough to judge by I suspect I would disagree. One of the things I really like about that track is the synth that's like rolling behind during the verses.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

It's actually her voice on "Do It" that reminds me of Paula Abdul.

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

well it's just a pretty common female synthetic 80s pop voice, ain't it ? I guess beside madonna and paula abdul, that could be many other singers...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

Loose is a case where a mediocre album becomes better after extended exposure

very much the reverse for me; intoxicating production baublez eventually paled into something v bland and i dunno, annoyingly indifferent? i sometimes try forcing myself back into it pretending it's not a supposed nelly f album but some new mystery up & comer, but then i remember i never much liked kiley dean either. and the lame little intro skits and the gaggle o' girls singing the chorus outro on track 1 could not sound less spontaneous if they tried, and really kill what vibe there mightve been. useless maneater vid also to blame obv.

'no hay igual' = tryhard, 'do it' i thought pwned the whole album on first listens but again, strangely unsatisfying nonstick issues with it now. just can't quite imagine it killing on radio! would still probly do better than the new jessica simpson i imagine.

still have a big soft spot for 'showtime' tho - i love how those lax cymbals give it a super linear monorail glide, gently settling attention for once in the album. synthy things playing at being steel drums are very admissable also

rtccc (mwah), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

altho editing out the "our band's in this video too though!" intro on 'showtime' myself = a big help. AAGHH JUST SHUT UP RETARDO

rtccc (mwah), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

the production = timbaland 'does' coldplay

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

pt 2 after brandy's afrodisiac, and more successful (in its coldplayness rather than brilliance)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

You guys are completely soulless automatons.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

also i really like the rmx with lil wayne, the new beat (opera samples and scuzzy southern synths) is awesome!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

the production = timbaland 'does' coldplay

funny cos two years back Timba was saying how much he wanted to work with Chris Martin (:(

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

well chris martin is on the closer! i suspect that was the putative duet and thank god it didn't work out like that - martin honking along would have ruined it. he just plays guitar i think.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

i don't even think he's doing anything on it.
OTM his voice would have made it impossible for me to like it.

Fucking hell - I'm playing catch-up here, but both 'Maneater' and 'Promiscuous Girl' are incredible... There's some kind of Timbaland alchemy going on here, because both are so much more than the sum of their parts. Having said that, there are about 5 moments in each song that raise the hairs on the nape of my neck. Fantastic production.

Also, that moment at the beginning of 'PG' - "Have I thrown you off?" "Nope" "Didn't think so" is SO sexy...she's actually quite hot, isn't she?

Is everyone deliberately ignoring "wait for You" or am I the only one who thinks its the best non-single song on the album?(other than "Showtime".)

Christyles, Thursday, 2 August 2007 07:06 (eighteen years ago)

I still haven't listened to this album. But "Say It Right" is my favorite single.

Tape Store, Thursday, 2 August 2007 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

Heard a reggae mix of Say It Right on the radio. Was sweet!

Christyles, Thursday, 2 August 2007 07:29 (eighteen years ago)

"Glow" is the best non-single track on this.

baaderonixx, Thursday, 2 August 2007 08:28 (eighteen years ago)

I think I'd like Glow a lot more if those buzzing synths didn't grate o me so much.

I don't know how but 'Say it Right' has discreetly trumped in my book all the mega-singles of this album.

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 08:50 (eighteen years ago)

that burn it up tune is ANNOYING though

rizzx, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 09:10 (eighteen years ago)

Say It Right owns on this album.

SeekAltRoute, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 11:27 (eighteen years ago)

This album is still so good. Much more consistent than FS/LS (the first half of which is great but then meh...). "Say it right" and "do it" are brilliant 80s madonna tracks.

ps : hey, baaderonixx, i'm back !

Not nearly enough love for "Afraid" on this thread...

Ben Boyerrr, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

"Wait For You" owns this album but "Say It Right" is far and away the best of the singles.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

i'm guessing 95.5 for Ethan would be whatever that station is in Atlanta. WPGC's a pretty good station, though.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)

I suspect I will lose all credibility on this thread, but I feel somehow urged to confess that I actually kind of like that Bloc Party cover of "Say It Right."

First single from Mi Plan forthcoming Spanish album, to apparently be followed by one in Portuguese in 2010. I dig it, but then again, it draws a lot musically on Nelly 2.0, circa Folklore which I thought was really underrated, esp. the first half, which really soared at times. Spanish-language tracks rarely do well on the main charts, so I'm not sure what she's going for, but it's been too long since we've had something from eclectic, musically schizoid Nelly. My one hope - that in addition to mid-tempo rock and hippie banjo jams, she keeps following the reggaeton bent she dipped her foot in by collaborating w/ Calle 13 on the No Hay Igual remix.

revive to join in the chorus that Say it Right, along w/ Promiscuous Girl and Maneater are fucking great. Not feeling Manos Al Aire and wondering what the deal is with her making a Spanish album? Intrigued by collabos w/ Calle 13 and La Mala Rodriguez tho.

Love for "Say It Right" thirded or whatever... To me, Loose was actually the best pop album of 2006. I don't think it has aged that well because Timbaland was over-used in that period and we all grew a bit tired of him... but I'd be really surprised if she comes up with something even half as good. "Manos al Aire" is already so-so but fortunately not as bad as it could have been.

can't get around how boring the chorus to 'say it right' is, but the verses and production in general are cool. showtime should have been a single, still love it
