'eislermaterial' is a straight up eisler cover record, it's weird he put his name on that one. the two I like are (for the sampler+orchestra moments) are 'black and white' and 'ou bien le debarquement desastreux'. his solo career's been all serious-composer-dude vs. your-patience, especially compared to the earlier fierce Goebbels & Harth records.

I was listening to them again to check out the original version of 'Peking Oper', which GZ remixed for 'Revolutionary Pekinese Opera'.

Today I listened to :

Buggles - The Age Of Plastic, great! Maybe I should hear Asia again to see if I missed something first time round.
Aki Onda - Cassette Memories Vol. 2
Gordon Mumma - Studio Retrospect
Compilation of merengue music on Rounder
Some of the new Mountain Goats before getting bored of it and putting it in the sale pile.
Shmulik Kraus - A Criminal Record (got this cheap in the MIO Records closing down sale but unfortunately it's rubbish)
Currently listening to Decibel - El Poete del Ruido Plus (from the 3cd box set, another steal from MIO - this one sounds like an inept - and therefore better - version of Univers Zero)

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Sunday, 23 October 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

jimmie spheeris - isle of view

skot. shit, i just bought this record last week and meant to either ask you if you'd heard of him or start an ILM thread on him. What do you think? i found it for a buck and just picked it up because it was from 71 and had that dude riding a gargoyle on the cover. it's pretty rad. kinda reminds me of shaun phillips. i guess dude has some sort of cult following or something. people trying to say he's the lost jackson browne or neil young? watevs

jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 23 October 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

Earth - Hex: or Printing in The Infernal Method

i know people are hating on this album, and i know it sounds nothing like earlier Earth, blah blah, but it's the perfect soundtrack to walking home in the dark a bit drunk with a beer in hand

Earl Lee Grace - Blackgrass

(This is Blag from the Dwarves - his bluegrass album from the mid-nineties or so on Sympathy. Yes, his bluegrass album. It is really fucking hilarious and good.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 28 October 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

(I just gound a copy in a dollar CD bin the other day.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 28 October 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

i used to love the dwarves. i remember seeing one of them, i think blag, at the sowebo fest in baltimore and he was wearing a leather jacket with a perfect reproduction of the cover of tg's "heathen earth" painted on the back of it.

amon (eman), Friday, 28 October 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

and yes ian, you need more! xp

amon (eman), Friday, 28 October 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

You rarely see people give the Dwarves their propers. I honestly think the Dwarves' heyday beats or at least equals (or is at least close to) the Ramones' heyday.
