I am only 16, but in my 16 years I have seen music advance so much, and I think this (above) is a good example of how music has bloomed over the years. There isnÕt only one type of music now that people listen to, but a whole range of music. I think I can be an example of how versitile people are with music. In my CD collection I have a fusion of music from Beyonce, Maddona, The killers and Linkin park, what a verity of flavours! I hope music is always as good! Please donÕt go back to the 80Õs and 90Õs music people!

J.D.Twitch djed here in austin, and I asked him about the Carl Craig mix of Relevee, and he said only Tim Sweeney and His self have copies and they had to sign a note of sorts not to leak the track. He said it's due out in april. I'm really looking forward to hearing this.

Also they have a live show worth listening to here:feed://feeds.feedburner.com/ourdisco

By the way JD Twitch was very friendly,a really nice guy. He played a great instore at this clothing store. He played a great edit of 'Behind the Wheel" that made me want to dance. I had to work tonight, so I sadly could not hear him play in a proper setting, where I could dance.

i was in the public library computer lab today, and a very fat grey-yet-balding 50ish man with the sort of chilling blank stare and drooping lower lip that make someone seem to be perptually slobbering in awe was using the computer next to mine. naturally he first checked out 'friendster profiles', and i peered over his shoulder, interested to see the first actual usage of this supposedly-popular trend ive seen outside of ilx. this left him visibly unsatisfied though, and he quickly moved on to a 'live teen chat'. this gave him more luck and immediately he had three or four private windows open, talking to girls with improbable names like 'tooblonde274' and 'kitten4u'. despite his sluggish two fingered typing he was able to carry on a semblance of conversation with all these names at the same time, just really simplistic flirting and 'this is the thread where i say'-type details abt each others lives. his chat name was 'radioray'.

after ten minutes or so of this, one of the girls said she had to leave to go to cheerleading practice. he was obviously intrigued and said 'i wish i cd go see u cheer'. 'i bet u do!' she said. he solemnly typed '*lol*', almost flaunting to me that he was clearly not aughing out loud. this carried on for a few minutes, lots of '2's and 'u's etc, at one point he, in internet chat 'action' speak, leaned over and pinned a rose to her dress, while kissing her. her well-received reply was a simple *blush*. at this point, he realized he had been spending too much time with his one special lady, advancing the intimacy to the flower-pinning chat-action level and all, and frantically tried to keep up with the rest of his harem, 'yah homework sux :-)', 'that sux u shld stop being freinds with her!', etc etc etc. finally, cheerleading rose-pinned girl had to go actually cheer, and he gave an identical signoff message to all his girls, 'i got 2 go now, email me ok? :-)' and closed the chat program.

at this point i breathed a mental sigh of relief. thank god this creep, this monster, is done with his disgusting 'rounds'! he rummaged around in his filthy backpack, which i took as a sign of preparation to leave, but he only pulled out a smudged spiral notebook. after flipping through a couple indecipherable pages (one seemed to have car repair bill additions on it, a terrifying reminder of his adulthood after all the forced teenager masquerading that was the only thing id seen from him, he found a page of six or seven scrawled email addresses, in the same cutesy template of his previous chat partners, 'bamagrrl27', 'hotstuf27', various cat- or flower-related ones, etc. he then opened his hotmail account (his email address was earl-something, contradicting his previous 'ray') and began to email all of them flirty pleasantries, more drawn out but nearly identical to what he had just exchanged with all the chat girls. one of them apparently was going to be staying in georgia this weekend. he offered to let her sleep at his house, and told her to call him as soon as she could, have a great weekend, etc. (by now he was clearly so obvlivious to my presence that i took it as a opportunity to write down his phone number, if you want to call him its 706 548 5097). advancing his already likely-prosecutable 'seduction' into real world sleepovers was too much for me, and at this point i got up, leaving my not-yet-checked out books at my seat to show i was returning, and walked across the room to whisper this creep's intentions to the computer lab librarian. he was bothered with some computer problem of his own, and sympathetically told me that he would check it out in a minute. i went back to my seat secure that my neighbour was going to get all that was coming to him, ejection from library premises, banishment, imprisonment, castration.

when i returned to my chair he had apparently finished the day's emailing , and replaced the notebook in his grimy jansport. he then typed a full web address into the microsoft search engine (a common practice at libraries, but understandably more disgusting to me in this instance), a lengthy subdomain, something ending with 'freeadult.com'. i quietly groaned in disapproval. the website quickly loaded and at first there was nothing visibly pornographic, a red background, black text of links to questionable words like 'CRUSH' and 'HEELS'. he clicked on heels, and a jpg of a womans thin leg appeared, her foot in a black high heel. excitedly, he pushed his chair back in what i can only assume was sheer joy, clicking the image to make it appear larger. there were many more pictures of 'heels' there, and he treated himself to each one: a click, an excited scoot, a twenty second stare, and onto the next. by now i was totally unable to pay attention to my own screen, glancing over at his and then back to the busy librarian as if to say, dont you see, i was right to tell you, why are you putting me through this? i felt the shamefully righteous pang of censorship i had gotten once before, when i threw a new hardcover book i had just found (asmarmy black panther 'expose' written by a white neo-conservative) into a restaurant dumpster.

after his appetite for 'heels' was sated he closed the multiple still-open picture windows, and i allowed myself another relieved sigh, ah, finally, thank god. but of course, he wasnt done yet, and almost proudly reopened the search window to type in another full web address. the actual text of it was jumbled and i couldnt make out what it could possibly be, but i hoped and feared the worst, hoping it would be horrible enough to get him expelled forever, fearing i might vomit if i saw another 'u can come stay at my place :-)'. the site he loaded, this time, was 'giantess videos', cheap-looking movies of tiny, ugly men, obviously acting against a bluescreen, and giant, giant women. the men looked up at the women from their huge countertop, they stood on their clothed breasts, they kissed their humungous lips, and, astonishingly, none of it was pornographic. he watched mpg after mpg of this stuff, now entirely unable to contain his sick glee, whether from getting away with this in the public library or just simply just having such an unbelievable perversion to begin with. i wanted to stand up, to shout to everyone else in the room, to do something. at this point i should say, im as liberal as youll probably find when it comes to fetishes, but my puritanical impulses had already been inflamed earlier, and now he was insulting my 'normal' sexuality in the most flagrant way thinkable. okay, yeah, enticing a minor into his dark bedroom is 'wrong', but even the historical puritans did that. this, however, this was full-on, no quotes, inarguable WRONG. just as i watched this parade of horror continue, his giggly squirms in the square wooden seat, his motivated click at each bizarre link, the library intercom announced they were closing, come check out books now, leave the computer labs, etc etc, and this man, this, this PREDATOR, followed the order dutifully. while all the other patrons continued nervously scrolling their stock market listings or bet.com music profiles, he stood up, a bit wobbly, from lust i presume, and practically dashed out of the room (or, at least the best a fat 50-something man who is desperately concealing an erection can 'dash'). i sat at my computer, silent, stunned that this world can even still contain sexual kinks yet unseen. so yeah, i think friendster is a little creepy.

Review by Jim Brenholts

There are not many musicians creative, bold, imaginative, and talented enough to release a four-CD set of new material. Steve Roach is all of that and the proverbial glazed doughnut. Mystic Chords & Sacred Spaces is close to five hours of deep and dark -- even dank -- ambience from this living legend. Each disc has its own thematic and sonic integrity. Each disc interacts with the other discs as well. Roach has sequenced this set and designed the sound to display complements and contrasts in imagery, sensory perception, and spiritual proclivity. The first disc -- Mystic Chords & Sacred Spaces -- takes listeners to the edges of reality immediately and gently. The deep atmospheres surround listeners and leave them with no escape routes. Of course, deep listeners will neither need nor want to escape. They will surrender to the moment. The moment is now. The moment is later. The moment is gone. The moment is eternal. The experience is existential and spiritual. Labyrinth -- disc two -- is suitable for losing oneself. Roach's shamanic rituals take listeners deeper into the zone. The psyche is lost in the realms of this bottomless pit, this cavern of the surreal. There are no impossible worlds on this journey. In the realms of nothingness, deep listeners see everything. In seeing everything, listeners gather knowledge. The ritual continues to begin and begins to continue.

Disc three -- Recent Future -- might be some of the best e-music ever. It continues the continuation of the continuous continuity. It relates to everything and reveals nothing. These atmospheres and soundscapes are intoxicating. Roach's free-flowing sound world has no structure within its tight structure. The simplicity of this intricate sound design is an absolute truth. In truth, there is beauty. In beauty, there is truth. Piece of Infinity is classic Roach. It is a long form (74-minute) journey through the realms of incongruities. The music continues to start and it begins to end. Roach is bringing listeners up from the depths and down from the heights. There are no limits and no edges. The languid pace is the perfect end, the perfect transition, and the perfect beginning. The surrender is gradual. The goal is to achieve the goal. These four discs are interchangeable in the progression of Roach's shamanic ritual. Taken in its totality, the set defines itself and Roach's career. He will go to any length, depth, or height to find knowledge, truth, beauty, character, and spirituality. This is a truly unique experience. The only logical comparisons are from Roach's discography. [Mystic Chords & Sacred Spaces can be purchased as a single four-CD box set or in two separate packages that each contain two CDs, one pairing the Mystic Chords & Sacred Spaces and Labyrinth discs, and the other pairing the Recent Future and Piece of Infinity discs.]

apparently it's ESL week on ILM

A lot of guitar players especially in our generation when modernization has made everything possible, seem to have lost the authenticity thus they don't quite have a lasting quality compared to these guys. Hendrix and Page have contributed a huge dose of musical legacy especially in spearheading the revolution of rock music. I do consider Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton as three of the most influential if not the greatest guitarists of all time. And the reason is their "distinctness". They were able to imbue their personalities into the guitar. Despite the annoyance of most great underground musicians unto the popular music scene, these three players retained their musical aspirations and passions to give listeners a bulk of musical masterpieces for all of us to enjoy. Each has their own kind of style and approach to guitar playing that makes them great players and musicians placing them in the pantheon of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.

No doubt that they have introduced as well as taken the art of electric guitar playing (specifically soloing) into an exciting level unto which many great guitarists of the new geration would soon embark in a musical journey towards virtuosity. A new dimension of guitar playing which all of us, lovers of guitar will soon emulate and incorporate in our playing.

These players will always stand the test of time...because the world of guitar was never the same again when Hendrix, Page and Clapton burst into the scene.

George starts to answer this, but what is Ram Jam's genre? I only know "Black Betty"; "bubblegum metal" seems to me a good description of the song but (1) I'm not sure why I think it's a good description, and (2) I don't know if "bubblegum metal" is a genre, or if it is, that "Black Betty" belongs to it. The reason I'm not sure why it's a good description is that in my mind a bubblegum metal track would apply blues-metal to catchy sweetly toonful-oonful nonblues melodies, and while "Black Betty" is catchy all right, where's the sweetly toonful-oonfulness? Maybe something about the vocals is engagingly bubblegum. (I don't require something that's bubblegum to resemble everything about everything else that's bubblegum, just some things about some other things that are bubblegum.) "Ram Jam"'s bubblegum provenance in itself doesn't make "Black Betty" bubblegum. Even if there'd been no Kasenetz-Katz connection I'd still feel that "bubblegum" was a good description. As for whether there is a genre here, I'm not too hard-nosed about what needs to be a genre (and you can retrospectively invent genres for your own ad hoc purposes), and something can be in more than one genre. We can call "Black Betty" folk rock as well as bubblegum metal. Or if we're hesitant to call it "folk rock," that tells us something interesting about the genre "folk rock," that it would exclude this particular rock version of a folk song. Anyway, just curious as to whom Tim is comparing Ram Jam to.

FYI for those who haven't heard it, "Black Betty" is an old African American stomp whose most famous non–Ram Jam version is by Leadbelly. In Chronicles, Bob Dylan associates the song with the idea of rootin' the mountain down, which isn't something one usually says about bubblegum. (But bubblegum can be used to root down a mountain. Creemsters used it that way in the late '60s and early '70s. But they were rooting down a different mountain.)

(I might understand all this better if I were to hear the entire album.)

I know this is exactly what you would guess I'd say but the Fiery Furnaces are really not very technically proficient; the guitar solos are just horrible, and while the keyboard work is better than I could manage, it's pretty fixated on weird noises and playing around. I'm trying to compile my year end list and here's my question:

How much do you have to listen to an album to put it on a list? I mean, I want to put Sigur Ros at number 16 but I've only listened to it like five times. I really love it tho. So, is this a cop out? how many listens deems an album worthy of a list? kudos.

Can I go SLIGHTLY offtopic for a second. We have a cousin of Sarah's from Indiana coming to visit for a while. We have a smallish couch and an air mattress. But this girl is...really rather large and I'm worried it would be difficult/uncomfortable for her. What does one do in these situations? Also we are both small, slight people and our house has similar proportions. Everything is small. Our bathroom is just big enough for one person to stand in and we have an antique clawfoot tub that favors the smaller person. It's awkward.

In English and American law, and systems based on them, libel and slander are two forms of defamation (or defamation of character), which is the tort or delict of publishing (meaning to a third party) a false statement that negatively affects someone's reputation. "Defamation" is the term generally used internationally, and is accordingly used in this article where it is not necessary to distinguish between "libel" and "slander".

Guys, local news (here in malibu) reported that the 5'8" farrell was over 400 lbs. at the time of his death. he'd apparently suffered from episodes of dementia for some time as well. to hear his family and friends talk it almost sounded like they thought of his passing as a blessing as he had declined both physically and mentally over the past few years.

I don't want to get involved on that Matmos thread for obvious reasons (people should feel free to say what they think, if I'm holding forth there then that won't happen; ILM is best when people shoot straight) but honestly, I'm not tripping about leaks. They are inevitable. It's just the way it is. Some people are going to wind up buying the record when they can, and some people aren't. Obviously I have a stake in hoping people will buy the record, but the thing to do about that is to make something worth people's time.

I am a guy with a belly button piercing. My alpha male friends obviously talk shit about it. One in particular. So, sometimes when we go drinking, we take a survey and try to find out if any girls would think a navel ring on a guy could be sexy (so far the score on my side is "0").
Last time, this girl asked to see it and she was like, "that isn't bad! that ain't bad at all! I don't think it's gay." and I said, "so, would you fuck me? would you? fuck me?" she said no.

and that is the most upfront sexual proposition i have made.
