This may come off as inconsiderate but sometimes life presents you with the absurd.

Walking through the cusp between North Beach (Little Italy) and Chinatown about 30 minutes ago, there was a man in his 50s-60s, faded blue hoody, tan pants, short cropped silver hair/beard, wrinkled tan skin, passed out on his side on the sidewalk diagonally. It's sunny, pushing about 80 degrees. In his left hand along the ground was a broken bottle of grain alcohol and a puddle where the bottle hit the sidewalk. His right hand was behind him. As I walked around him, I saw his hand had pushed his pants down and he had shit right on the sidewalk/his hand.

Right when I saw that last detail, I noticed the immense sign in the liquor store window immediately framing this scene:

At a workshop in borrowed space on Houston Street, young people with the environmental group Time's Up! have been assembling and fixing bicycles to be used in a number of demonstrations, including a "Critical Mass'' ride Friday evening through Manhattan to draw attention to environmental concerns.

That ride, and others that could involve large groups of bicyclists, drew a terse warning yesterday from senior police officials, who said in a news release that they would be "stepping up enforcement actions against bicyclists who block traffic, ignore traffic signals and otherwise violate traffic laws."

Brandon Neubauer, a Time's Up! organizer, said the police warning appeared to signal a different tactic than in the past, when the police used scooter patrols to work with and accommodate Critical Mass rides through Manhattan involving up to 1,500 bicyclists. He said the ride on Friday could draw 2,000 riders, and large groups are expected at bicycle events on Sunday and Tuesday. If the police insist on stringent enforcement of traffic laws, "it will be difficult and could blow up in their faces," Mr. Neubauer said.

He said he expected the riders to stretch for 20 blocks or more, and engage in "corking," a practice in which some riders block auto traffic at intersections to enable the mass of fellow riders to keep moving unimpeded through red lights.

i had a better time than i expected at the bachelor party i went to last weekend, which was my first. i thought i was gonna be made fun of for eating from the salad bar at the brazilian steakhouse we went to. (the groom's high-school friends, who i don't know, set it all up.) but at one point at the bar afterwards, we were talking about shiloh pitt-jolie, and one dude was like "uh, we're at a bachelor party, why are we talking about that us weekly shit?" it was weird enough that it was a table with like 20 dudes at it.
