Animal Crossing: Wild World (for TEH DS)

I am ten thousand times more excited for this game than I was for MKDS - I never got to play the Gamecube version, so it'll be a first, but seeing as how I want something I can zone out and idly play while listening to music, it sure sounds like exactly the game for me. The loss of the NES games is kind of a bummer, but I hear this game is going to have holidays out the ying-yang (and you can actually participate in them!) to make up for it. It does feel this strange to be so excited about a game that'll basically let me tend a virtual garden and clean a virtual house when my own apartment is such a non-virtual wreck, but I'm just going to chalk that one up to my healthy appreciation of irony.

Anyone else getting this? This is definitely going to be the game that turns me into a friend-code whore.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

i don't understand this game. what is it and do i want it?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Yes. I was obsessed with Animal Crossing on the GC for about a week. Loved it. Then I got distracted. The new stuff the DS gets sounds perfect--online play, designing patterns with the stylus, etc. It'd be totally gay if I weren't playing with the g/f.

Slocki: It is a game about animals who live in a town. They lend stuff to one another and ask you to get it back for them. Sometimes you go fishing. Sometimes a camel comes to town and sells you carpets. There is a raccoon who runs a convenience store and holds raffles. Good stuff.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

I want to know how or if this is better than the Gamecube version. I wanted to love it but it just couldn't keep my interest in the long run.

Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

Laura we'll be able to VISIT EACH OTHER'S TOWNS. And, like, take stuff from mailboxes and pull weeds and talk to alternate universe Tom Nooks. I foresee two weeks of interest this time, a good 12 days more than Nintendogs.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

It's starting to snow in Animal Crossing!

I dunno, now that I've been playing it off and on for a year it's starting to feel like I've done it all.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

And yet, I really would like to see the new version.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to make this the game that forces my girlfriend to buy the system for me. Us. I mean us.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 06:21 (twenty years ago)

I thought Nintendogs was supposed to take care of that (and Animal Crossing was supposed to get everyone's girlfriends to get wifi).

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:29 (twenty years ago)

Eh. She's a bit less girly than that.
Though if there were a pit bull puppy...

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

The boxer puppy looks a little bit like a pit. As a pit bull owner I was very irritated by their absence in Nintendogs.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

do i want this or the mario/luigi rpg? this is the question!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

I don't know. That M/L RPG is guaranteed fun. Unfortunately Dragon Quest has me in its clutches.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 30 November 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

I think you want the Mario/Luigi RPG. It will have more staying power.
xxpost

Laura H. (laurah), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

Nahh, if you get them both there'll be twice as much staying power! (I think)

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 1 December 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

i am faced with indecision!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 1 December 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

Imagine I put a pattern on display in my store. An animal might start to wear it, and then they move away to another town. The animals there start to wear that pattern as well to fit in, and one of theirs moves away somewhere else. With the intricate sets of friends lists, that pattern could show up in someone else's town that is several degrees of separation away. Today I met a Blanca whose face was designed from someone I had never heard of. Yesterday I got a message in a bottle from someone who was friends with one of my friend's, but I had never met them and they weren't on my list.

Last night, I visited Craig's town and my Pac-Man constellation ended up in his. He had never seen it before. If he visited someone else's town, it could end up in theirs. The way this works is .. once the game goes live, you may be seeing an influx of content from players you've never met before in your life, reaching your town through several different means. It's a viral world.

that is cool!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 1 December 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna let the g/f buy it and try it out so I can play Mario/Luigi.

adam (adam), Thursday, 1 December 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

x-post

uh sounds fkn awesome

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

so are ILG DSers gonna buy this?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 3 December 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

I think I might
Not anytime soon probably though

TOMBOT, Saturday, 3 December 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Dunno, I'm worried it'll be too similar to the GC version, which I got bored of after a couple of weeks. Plus it's december, and I'm poor, and I've still got lots of GTA:LCS and MKDS fun to keep me busy. So maybe, eventually, I'll give it a go, but for now I think I'm also in the "not anytime soon" gang.

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 3 December 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

I am! Really anticipating this game right now. I hope I'm not the only one.

melton mowbray (adr), Saturday, 3 December 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm definitely buying this - it was one of the things that made me want a DS in the first place.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Saturday, 3 December 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

yeah, I'm totally buying this; I just need something calm and pleasant right now and this seems v.apt

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 4 December 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

I am of anticipation. I loved the gamecube version too though and managed about two or three months of play before boredom set in.

jeffrey (johnson), Sunday, 4 December 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

FOR GOD'S SAKES, am I the only one who got this? It's sure sucking my time away so far (in spite of the fact that I'm still not entirely sure what I'm doing).

Coolest bit so far: I identified a constellation ASAP when I got the game. Three days later, it's still in the sky reflecting a realistic model for the rotation of the planet. THAT is fucking cool (for some reason).

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Saturday, 10 December 2005 01:02 (twenty years ago)

I almost bought this today but then (not quite-)buyer's remorse kicked in and I couldn't justify the spend : /

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 December 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

i am so torn on this one

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 10 December 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Oh god, everyone get it (because mine's just been shipped from liksang)!

melton mowbray (adr), Saturday, 10 December 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

Yeah! I totally need this. Then I'm a come to your village and eat all your peaches!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Saturday, 10 December 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

I want to buy this but will probably wait till it's here in the uk. liksang scares me.

jeffrey (johnson), Saturday, 10 December 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Haha, even then you'll probably still get it before me. Depending how long before Christmas it comes, I might just wrap it up and open it on Christmas day!

melton mowbray (adr), Saturday, 10 December 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

A friend of mine is sending me her free review copy of this. I probably never would have bought it otherwise; I'm kind of excited now. I hope I can incorporate my Young Jeezy-esque MKDS snowman icon into it somehow.

d4niel coh3n (dayan), Monday, 12 December 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

So, so excited. Come on lik-sang!

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 12 December 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

So excited. Come on UK release.

jeffrey (johnson), Monday, 12 December 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

I'm convinced that this game gets localized weather updates every time you turn it on - it's just been so stunningly accurate every time I've played it. Just now, while I was waiting for the town to load, I decided to put on a sweatshirt (Los Angeles has turned me into a giant weather pussy) - then I step outside in my AC village and it's snowing.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

so is it a good time? are you enjoying it? the game?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

I like it a lot so far - it's not the all-consuming timebeast that I was expecting it to be, but as far as games I can just pick up and play, it's the greatest thing since Tetris. It's also the best celebration of banality since Mrs. Dalloway - I spent an hour today shaking apples out of trees and collecting fish for the museum.

Also, one of my friends apparently just got this too, so I'll get to check out the wifi capabilities soon. ROCK.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

it's not the all-consuming timebeast that I was expecting it to be, but [...] I spent an hour today shaking apples out of trees and collecting fish for the museum.

So, so excited.

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

i almost bought this today but they were out. which of course makes me really want it now

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

hah in this month's EDGE they deliberately run the animal crossing DS and katamari PSP reviews next to each other... scored 8 and 7 respectively

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Should I get the GC version for my fiancee? She loves Katamari, the Sims and Harvest Moon.

(we don't have a DS)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

cozen do you like edge? i just read my first ish, it's kinda hard to find & expensive here. but despite the title it's a pretty good mag!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

Jordan - yeah. AC is just like playing harvest moon in real time, pretty much.

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

ach it's a bit silly in places and expensive here too but I picked up a subscription for myself and between that and gamesTM I get by

sorry this has been another dull post from cozen sitting at his desk

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

Edge deserves its own thread!

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

There you go.

Edge Magazine - C/D

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, good god yes.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 00:00 (twenty years ago)

i got it!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

i still have no idea what to do with it though! it kinda feels like the parts in rpgs where you're in a town and you have to talk to people to get plot information and buy new gear.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

er...yep, that's animal crossing. Now just keep going. For ever and ever and ever.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

i just wrote a letter to a frog.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

not exactly where i always imagined my life would be at 29, but hey, not bad either.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

haha

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

I never thought you'd get to this point in your life

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

i designed a t-shirt for myself with a picture of my cat on it. and then i made a picture of a hamburger for the town flag.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

i've never felt so alive.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

i'm trapped in an rpg town

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

why did i buy this again?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

i just remembered i have an appointment with a zebra in twenty minutes

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

I almost bought this and a DS with Mario Kart for my girlfriend for xmas but when I called to hint that I was going to, she figured it out and told me no go.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 23 December 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

i made a constellation in the shape of a banana

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)

no one with this happens to be around & online right now huh?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:23 (twenty years ago)

Greeeeeeeeeeat, man.

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

yes! what?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

are you enjoying it?

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

i think

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

it is definitely weirdly fascinating

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

also i'm having a donkey over for a visit in half an hour

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

and i'm kind of excited to show her my new wallpaper

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

and i definitely have never had that experience in a video game before

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

you are a cool guy!

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, these stories are definitely going to help out with the ladies

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Fux it, i just ordered from lik-sang and i ordered mario & luigi partners at the same time as well. Come on lik-sang.

jeffrey (johnson), Friday, 23 December 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Oh god Jeffrey, I hope they don't take as long for you as they are with me! We ordered it on the fifth, hoping to get it before Christmas, so I could wrap it up and give it to myself Christmas morning. No show yet :(

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 23 December 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

Damn their souls. Play.com has mario and luigi released on the 10th of february and animal crossing on the 3rd of march. As long as i get them before that i won't mind too much tho excitement etc. might be too much to take.

jeffrey (johnson), Friday, 23 December 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Fuck it as well. I bought it and had it giftwrapped for the girl after she later suggested she likely WOULD enjoy it. S1ocki, I'll come visiting soon.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 23 December 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I'm with you in spirit, at least.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

fun!

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 24 December 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

i paid off my mortgage

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 24 December 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Okay, got it! How do we start visiting y'all's houses?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 24 December 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

slocki is amazing on this thread.

should I get this or the gamecube one?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 24 December 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

My girlfriend just named our Animal Crossing town KKKanada.
C'mon by!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 25 December 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

i did some DS to DS visits with family friends (embarrassingly younger than me) this weekend... my understanding is that WFC is far more limited, but it was kinda amazing... i could do ANYTHING in their town i could do in my own, buy and sell things (useful because tom nook was closed that day in my town!), put my designs up for sale in the clothing store, send letters, dig stuff up, go fishing, talk with peeps etc.

and then after my first visit one of the characters from their town moved to mine!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 26 December 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Okay, somebody (and I'm looking at you s1ocki) email me a friend code so we can visit!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 26 December 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

i'm not going to be in wifi range until wednesday!! but i will email you my code soon & we can work it out

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 26 December 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

you have journeyed south to cuba?!

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 26 December 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if I'm frightened or intrigued by all of this.

Laura H. (laurah), Monday, 26 December 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

i have travelled deep into the canadian wilds

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 26 December 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

What did you see there?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

snow

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

a cow is wandering around calling everyone "broheems". a giraffe just said i was very unfashionable. i think the frog is developing a cold. hmm maybe i should buy it some medicine?

zappi (joni), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

in the gamecube one teddy said everything and everyone was totally "groofin'".

jeffrey (johnson), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

My gf really wants to visit new lands! Please email friend codes and I will reciprocate.
God, I feel like a twelve year old here.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Can you finally get them the swimming pools and bowling alleys they are always pining for?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

i like telling the owl in the observatory that she's cute.
i am an owl tease.

zappi (joni), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

aare you around, forks?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 December 2005 06:09 (twenty years ago)

now are you?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 December 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

are we sharing friend codes here? :) A snowman just gave me a fridge!

carson dial (carson dial), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:31 (twenty years ago)

snowmen give you stuff? mostly they just mope around i thought!!

antexit just moved into my town!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:39 (twenty years ago)

He sent me a letter, an impressive feat considering that he has no arms or legs! He wants a snowlady to keep him company.

carson dial (carson dial), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:48 (twenty years ago)

had you sent him a letter first?

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:53 (twenty years ago)

Nope, I just made him an hour earlier, and when I came back on, there was a message from him in my mailbox.

carson dial (carson dial), Sunday, 8 January 2006 22:04 (twenty years ago)

Er, does anybody want a gas pump for their house? As a bonus, I won't fleece you for 2,000 bells like Patty just did to me…

carson dial (carson dial), Sunday, 8 January 2006 22:12 (twenty years ago)

Have you got this yet Jeffrey? We're still waiting on it :(

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 8 January 2006 23:08 (twenty years ago)

i just saw a ufo!!!

zappi (joni), Sunday, 8 January 2006 23:50 (twenty years ago)

a ufo!!

i've only ever seen one present floating through the sky. what's a guy gotta do?

also, does anyone have butterflies and stuff? do i have to wait for springtime?

antexit (antexit), Monday, 9 January 2006 02:04 (twenty years ago)

that was me btw

slocki chez antexit (antexit), Monday, 9 January 2006 02:05 (twenty years ago)

i tried firing my catapult at the ufo, but missed :/
i think we have to wait for spring for most bugs, but i did catch a dung beetle the other week - he was rolling a snowball! its the little odd surprises like this that keep me coming back.

zappi (joni), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:13 (twenty years ago)

hey hey hey animal crossing buddies!
please call robin, she wants to hang out something fierce
RME@panix.com
s1ocki are you on now?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:32 (twenty years ago)

just turned on my AC for the first time since Christmas break and discovered a NOTE IN A BOTTLE FROM A THIRD GRADER on the shore, presumably from when I had the DS in my backpack in the airport. Once again: coolest game evurr.

Also I sent out my friend code to the list, so check yr emails and add away.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 22:12 (twenty years ago)

I am also still unspeakably amused whenever Brewster makes the coffee.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 22:16 (twenty years ago)

wtf, are there bugs in my house now?

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 22:18 (twenty years ago)

I have got this now but i still haven't played it because of mario and luigi: partners in time plus the fact i have become a world of warcraft addict. I will play it soon though and friend code etc. i hope you get yrs soon melton, lik-sang still scares me but i think i might use it more.

jeffrey (johnson), Thursday, 12 January 2006 11:47 (twenty years ago)

xpost - aww James, that's so cute!

(I, on the other chased one of my townmates around with a net while wearing a hockey mask the other day. Well, he was being mean to everybody and ignoring my letters asking him to be nicer, so I thought he needed a taste of his own medicine..)

carson dial (carson dial), Thursday, 12 January 2006 13:33 (twenty years ago)

my favourite character moved away :(

has anyone met the hungry itinerant artist yet?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 12 January 2006 18:23 (twenty years ago)

You mean the cat whose face you get to re-draw?

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Friday, 13 January 2006 02:13 (twenty years ago)

i just met an itinerant stand up comedian/psychologist. he told me a really bad joke & then taught me how to express my shyness by making me "touch" him. haha!

zappi (joni), Friday, 13 January 2006 15:19 (twenty years ago)

i met a fashion consultant who gave me a moldy shirt :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 13 January 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Fuck you, lik-sang.

l, Tuesday, 24 January 2006 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Hey, my AC-obsessed girlfriend wants ILxor friend codes. So she can trash y'all towns. Are we doing an email exchange like for Mario Kart?

adam (adam), Sunday, 29 January 2006 18:39 (twenty years ago)

email me for my girl's animal crossing codes.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 29 January 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

Fuck you, lik-sang.

-- melton mowbray (patrickalla...), January 18th, 2006 11:42 PM. (adr) (link)

If you're doing emails, I don't suppose you could put me on the list please, just in case mine ever turns up at the door?

Ta :)

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 29 January 2006 19:01 (twenty years ago)

...and by "door", I do of course mean "post office".

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 29 January 2006 19:02 (twenty years ago)

So, now that it's been out for a while, is there anyone who played the Gamecube version a lot and then switched to the DS version who can say whether the new version sustained their interest?

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 29 January 2006 22:08 (twenty years ago)

My girl played the gamecube like a fiend, quit suddenly and never picked it up again. I got her AC and a DS for Xmas and she's been fiendishly playing it since.

Also: RED TULIP PLAGUE

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 29 January 2006 22:31 (twenty years ago)

one of my villagers just mentioned having tea with her! (although she did ask whether she was always 'such a pizza face', which I don't think is all that complimentary…

one month passes...
Fuck you, lik-sang.

OMG! This arrived yesterday, three months later than expected, but they gave me a full refund about a month ago! Thank you Lik-Sang :)

In Animal Crossing related news, the mayor is an absolute fuckwit.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 12 March 2006 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Not as much as Tom Nook! He has all the power in those villages! All those mortgages!

carson dial (carson dial), Sunday, 12 March 2006 14:59 (twenty years ago)

So, does anyone want to come to my town? We have Charlie Brown t-shirts.

Not as much as Tom Nook! He has all the power in those villages! All those mortgages!

Hah, I bet he doesn't even know that we pay those mortgages by selling him crap we stole from the beach and the rubbish bin at the post office.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 12 March 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

i haven't played this in 3 months or so. i wonder what's going on in zerkland right now.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Sunday, 12 March 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Melton, my girl would LOVE to visit, but you're never home!
She, by the way, has designed hawaiian shirts and bikinis that you'd swear were in-game made.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 12 March 2006 19:46 (twenty years ago)

I have this! I'm a pirate! Yaaar

This seriously has some of the best script action in a game, Nintendo are good for that. It was La-di-da day at the weekend, and everyone had their own song that they hoped would become the town song. My man Hopper - the bitter misanthrope - said "My best song is a ballad, I don't think the hipster kids will get it."

Oh, I laughed.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Monday, 13 March 2006 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Tom Nook isn't at work today. What the fuck am I supposed to do with all these fish? :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 13 March 2006 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Maybe if I can get my Animal Crossing friend to come down I can flog them to his parallel universe Tom Nook.

then he would tell me groofin' was getting out of date and let me pick teh word de jour. I wld just choose groofin' again, why not.

jeffrey (johnson), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:14 (twenty years ago)

That's so good! Next time one of mine asks me, I'm going to say groofin'.

I've got one of mine saying bro, another saying lol. Strangely, it's made them into much cooler guys. Then again, they were saying "B-B-B-Buddy" and something like "awwa awwa". I don't know why I didn't go with "AMIRITE?" really.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 13 March 2006 23:35 (twenty years ago)

I'd forgotten about this until somebody reminded me the other day, but I'm actually IN the original Animal Crossing (and maybe the DS version too, I dunno). I mean, like, there's this duck which looks a LOT like me, and has a name that's REALLY similar to my surname...

Hello!!!

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 18:00 (twenty years ago)

My girlfriend desperately needs someone to visit her town so she can get herself a Nookington's. Please to email me if anyone is feeling magnanimous.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 19:15 (twenty years ago)

I want to visit someone's town, but am sans wifi now :(

Perhaps I could do it from someone else's place, or even mcdonalds.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 12:08 (twenty years ago)

I really have to stop lending my DS to people, but I think I subconciously do it for my health.

My girlfriend STILL wants to visit you. Email me.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 18 March 2006 05:22 (twenty years ago)

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 18 March 2006 10:19 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Today is the last day of the flower fest, and if I don't win I'm going to dig up everyone's flowers leaving nasty holes in their gardens.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 9 April 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

i burned out on this game so hard

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 9 April 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

Steal their flowers, dude. You can pick them up and plant them back at your pad.

Sl0cki, you have no love in your heart!

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 9 April 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

I was thinking of doing that actually, but was worried the mayor might call me out on it.

Anyway, I doubt there's any need for foul play, everyone else has a rubbish garden compared to me. If anyone wins except me, it's obviously rigged.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 9 April 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

One of my neighbours told me out of the blue not to trample on his flowers so that I'd win, because that was his idea. I took that as the cue to start playing dirty, now every flower in the village is around my house.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Sunday, 9 April 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

Stealing seems better than trampling, though. I had a few gardening animals leave recently, and have plundered a bit from their homeless gardens.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no, I meant I had a 4 space thick ring of flowers around my house, they're not trampled.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Sunday, 9 April 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

well i burned out after i'd been playing it for like four hours a day, two months straight!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 10 April 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

That's 240 hours. Blimey, that's Final Fantasy 7 multiplied by 5.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 10 April 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

Oh well that is perhaps going to happen. I try to play for maybe 30 minutes a day at most.

Still, someone who has something other than peaches or oranges in their town needs to let me visit. Also I am curious what other people's consellations look like...

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 10 April 2006 03:34 (nineteen years ago)

Send letters to your neighbours saying "Send me some fruit". Some of them sent me clothes, but I got all the foreign fruit in about 3 tries. Apart from coconuts, but I found one of them on the beach.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 10 April 2006 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

I want to see if I won the flower fest, but the DS is in the car and I'm too lazy to go out and get it :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

Also I am curious what other people's consellations look like...

You cannot beat my Neil Young and Crazy Horse constellations. Sadly though, all of my other attempts have been horrible failures.

Also, hi dere. I play too many games and should start reading this board.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

I still haven't checked to see who won the flower fest cause I didn't play yesterday and haven't yet today. I did feed my Nintendog though. Then I let him get his ass whipped in a disc contest before I had to move on to more pressing things like laundry.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

I won, I'm so proud. My only constellation so far is The Ladle, which started off as a music note but went a bit wonky.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 10 April 2006 19:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Neil Young and Crazy Horse are totally brilliant.

Agent S was swooning over Octopus today, even though it was cloudy out.

And I didn't win the damn prize. Grr.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 04:09 (nineteen years ago)

Also, that seems like a less fun way to get fruit. But I might give it a try anyways.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 04:10 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't win either! My garden must have been about five times the size of the winner's and was grouped by colour, where theirs was just a big mess.

I trampled their garden after hearing the news, obviously.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

I spoke to Tortimer most days. If I'm the only one of us that won then that probably means the whole competition was just a corrupt game of who the judge liked the most.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

I keep trying to justify buying a blue DS with Animal Crossing and Nintendogs, because I want to play. I've put it off, because my birthday is later this month.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

DO IT. Especially if the DS Lites draw the prices down. Did Martin tell you about how much he loves Nintendogs when you were here?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 04:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah the Animal Crossing + DS Phat combo deal is being phased out! Jump on it!

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:12 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no :( nintendowifi.com has some router guides and FAQs, you could maybe give them a go? A friend of mine who uses a normal wireless router with his DS had a bit of setting up to do beforehand, so it's probably not unusual.

Having had lots of internet problems recently, I can sympathize with wanting to play wifi and not being able to. Complete pain in the arse! How you get it sorted :)

Forks, I still need to visit you and your girlfriend, so now the internet's fine just let me know a good time to play!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:29 (nineteen years ago)

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:43 (nineteen years ago)

AC is basically "Share Your Most Banal Conversations: The Video Game".

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 5 May 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'm making a living shaking oranges out of trees and picking up seashells. And, once I figured out the shovel, I dug and filled in holes all over the place, but didn't find anything. One of the animals thinks I need to use bronzer, and another is not impressed by my friendly letter.

Thanks Melton, I will check things out and go hammer and tongs at it this weekend!

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 5 May 2006 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

Uh, there'll be a little * on the ground if it's a place that's worth digging...

Also, try to get new fruit ASAP! Your local fruit is worth 100 bells but strange fruit is worth 500. It's how I've paid for my mortgages. Apparently mailing people mentioning "fruit" might help. Put gifts in your letters.

Also also: Be sure to go into the cafe in the museum basement Saturday between 8 and midnight!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 5 May 2006 02:35 (nineteen years ago)

It was dark! It was raining! Next time, I'll look before I dig :)

What's the deal with the turnip prices? Also, I thought I pulled one up, but it wasn't in my pockets when I went to look.

I've been in that cafe - the bartender just tells me to "go sit over there". But I'll be in there Sat. Maybe I'll have the wifi going by then.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 5 May 2006 03:11 (nineteen years ago)

The turnip prices are a stock market thing, you buy loads from a pig that comes to your town on Sundays, then sell them when Nook is paying shedloads. They rot after a week though if you don't sell them.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Friday, 5 May 2006 03:28 (nineteen years ago)

You probably pulled up a weed.

Also there are new RED turnips in this AC which you have to water daily and they just grow and grow. Sold for 1000, after a week are worth 8000, two weeks I think were worth 16,000, but that's as far as I've gone with them.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 5 May 2006 06:04 (nineteen years ago)

You can feed the red turnips to Wendall when he visits, and he'll give you something. Then you have to give that item to another character, and so on, until eventually you get something rare.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Friday, 5 May 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

Argh. The time on the DS was wrong, so Mr. Jaq changed it, which made the time in AC off by 12 hours to the future. I couldn't see any way to fix it except to wipe out my town :(((. A gin & tonic is helping to restore equilibrium, and now, I have apple trees.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 6 May 2006 00:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, uh, no, see, at the beginning there's a sort of "other options" feature and that let's you change the town clock. Useful for cheating and breaking verisimilitude but also for this sort of actual situation.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 6 May 2006 00:57 (nineteen years ago)

You get to the time changing screen from the phone, not the other options bit, but you can only do it when you start up (touch the phone rather than your character), not in the middle of playing. I didn't work that out until I'd wiped my first game too.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Saturday, 6 May 2006 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, that's it then - I didn't see anything about the town clock in the other options when I started, and I woke my character up and had her pick up the phone. Oh well, all's as fine as can be with a second G&T :)

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 6 May 2006 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

all's as fine as can be with a second G&T :)

I think we all could (and should) live by this!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Saturday, 6 May 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

I got the wifi to work, thanks to that link - thx again Melton! Just had to slow down the transmission speed. What's the deal with friend codes then? Is there a max?

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 6 May 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

Tombot, yes yes Ally NEEEEDS this, then we can all virtual FAP in the museum bar :) I got waylaid by an insurance selling badger or something this morning. And there's a really grouchy eagle that's my neighbor. You dig up fossils! I found an iguanadon skull. You catch fish! And squid!

I am a little concerned, not only was this insurance guy harassing me, but one of my neighbors wanted to know my blood type?! They may be planning something nefarious.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 6 May 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

an insurance selling badger or something

Oh no! I dread Saturdays, when I know he'll be lurking outside my house in the morning. Fortunately, the one time he caught me, I didn't have any bells so his dirty tricks didn't work on me. What happens if you do have the money when you talk to him?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Saturday, 6 May 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

He makes you buy insurance, then you get 100 bells every time you get stung by a bee.

You can get out of having to buy any by giving the answers that make it look like you've prepared for the future.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Saturday, 6 May 2006 22:41 (nineteen years ago)

Uhm, well, if you fall for it, all you can say is yes, and then he takes the money >:[ So never start a conversation with him if you have any bells!

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 6 May 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, the guitar player in the cafe? - SO FUCKING AWESOME!!!! I mean seriously, that was really wonderful, and completely unexpected. :)

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 7 May 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yes. He plays 52 different songs -- collect them all!

Also, someone we know is thinking of getting a tattoo of K.K.

Anyway, it's fine to get insurance -- it basically means 100 bells every time you log in. Don't get it more than once, it doesn't seem to change anything. Also he'll let you decide when Crazy Redd should show up. But if you do chat with him say you are prepared for the future and it'll be fine.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 7 May 2006 05:04 (nineteen years ago)

K.K. Slider's music is great, we play it around the house all the time.

Okay, now I have to find some bees and irritate them. I thought I might be able to partly drown in a riptide or something, but it won't let me wade out in the ocean.

So, I take it to be a Bad Idea to buy the red turnips if you don't have a watering can?

Guitar player in the cafe what!!!!!!1

I feel like this game hides things from me, just so I keep playing it and hoping they happen to me. I left my DS at a friend's house for weeks and weeks and my village is covered in weeds.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 7 May 2006 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah wtf! I've never seen this, once.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 7 May 2006 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, come and say hey.

Stick 1503-9003-3682 in to your roster!

Then help me weed? Please?

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 7 May 2006 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

There are lots of AC friend codes in the MKDS email, I'll forward it to you or give you a best of :)

Are you about now Suedey - fancy a multiplayer weed?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 7 May 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just not sure about how right I would feel playing Animal Crossing drunk. Well, that and I have to go downstairs to the cold room with the wireless thingy for it to work.

I will stock up on blankets for the future! I didn't mean to get back in to this game. That's why I kept accidentally on purpose leaving my DS at people's houses...

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 7 May 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I whacked a rock with my shovel by mistake, and bags of bells popped out!

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 7 May 2006 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

Go and shake all the trees!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 7 May 2006 23:04 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, I had no idea you could do that! Thanks Jaq!

I'm about to go to bed (and have a game there), but I'll be turning the computer off, so no wifi unfortunately. It's night time in my town, so as shopping's out of the question I won't be playing for long anyway. If any of you fancy a game tomorrow, post here and I'll probably be around! I'll be up late too, so I can probably fly over to your timezone where it's still light.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 7 May 2006 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

Haha seriously you guys. DO stuff in this game.

Catching the bees is a bitch. Not the honeybees, but the bees that linger in trees. I never managed to do that in the GC version.

The more coffee you drink, the chattier the pigeon gets, but it's taken several weeks before he started welcoming me by name. Still it's one of my favorite parts of the game, oddly enough.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 8 May 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

fancy a multiplayer weed?

roffle?

MELTANG: please can you share my friend code with all your pals? and i'll grab theirs from you next time we MSN if that's cool with them.

teh_kit has 20 friends (g-kit), Monday, 8 May 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

The pigeon, will he only sell you one cup of coffee a day? I tried to talk to him off and on all day yesterday, but he only sold me coffee once. And got mad coz I wanted to let it cool off.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 8 May 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

Can somebody mail me the codes of friends? I was just about to do some work and I saw this thread and... and...

I cna stay calm. But sometimes I feel guilty for missing my towns sunny days...

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Monday, 8 May 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, only one cup per day. You wanna become an addict?

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 8 May 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I whacked a rock with my shovel by mistake, and bags of bells popped out!

Coincidentally, one of the animals in my town came up to me last night and said that EXACT sentence!

Tom Nook's being very funny today, which is odd, because he usually just spouts the same old "please come again, hm?" stuff.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

tom nook is CLOSED today. bummer.
i sent out a big spammy email to all you AC DSers last night with my friend code/town details in it.
melton can vouch for how amAzing my town is, you should totally all visit sometime. and bring fruit.

this message brought to you by the Pwnage Tourist Board.

teh_kit has 20 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

My Tom Nook's was closed yesterday for remodelling. I left a pile of shells outside my house all night and went fishing. Went to bed with pockets full o' fish. And turnips. And the coconut I planted died because I don't have a watering can yet :[

teh_kit, if you spammed me, I didn't get it or I deleted it without looking. Plz to send again?

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Melton? Plz to share friend code? Though I will probably be wifi-less from Wednesday until late on Sunday night.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

I am obsessed. I tried to justify taking the DS to work today. Because Tom Nook's was closed, ya know, and I have all these fish and carpets and need to get a watering can! Mr. Jaq wrenched it from my hands, saying "Bad idea."

He just wanted to play Brain Age, cuz my brain is now MUCH YOUNGER than his and we are terribly competitive.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

gee, i brought mine to work.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

lunchtime = playtime

teh_kit has 20 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

I go home for lunch most days (it's 15 min away) - so I can maybe get my turnips sold then, before they rot!

And, as evidenced by my posting here shamelessly during work hours, I am not strong enough to resist the pull of Things Other Than Work.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

And the coconut I planted died because I don't have a watering can yet :[

Fruit trees don't need water, but they'll fail if they're in certain places. Coconut trees need to be right up next to the beach, not on the beach iteself, but on the line where the beach meets the ground.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! That makes sense. The level of detail in this game is so great - my Soup Pot constellation is just beginning to be visible in the night sky :)

Do you ever get to decorate the bedroom? It won't let me do anything with the floor or walls up there.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

Naah, but I think you can change the bed if you put another bed down somewhere else in the house and get the option to swap it. I've not tried that myself though.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

I'M GETTING A NEW HOUSE! YOS!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

I am ALL ABOUT constellations. Although none of mine are as good as Martin's two, of Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 19:57 (nineteen years ago)

I need to see other people's constellations - mine are very lame so far: soup pot and cat face. Neil Young and Crazy Horse constellations sound mind-boggling.

There was a tent set up in front of the town hall this morning - I'm assuming that's Redd? I brought the DS to work, in case he leaves town at noon or something. Also, early mornings do seem to be an excellent time to fish (I'm up at 5:30 or so generally) though this morning I caught a tire.

And! My house is being remodelled today!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

OMFG!

i have a constellation called CAT_FACE too!

teh_kit has 20 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

There are two tents. Redd's requires a password and has a furniture leaf on it. You can ask around for the password.

Mine cat face is called "Kitten". Agent S swooned over it a few times.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

A mallard is coming over tonight at 6:36! After the puffin/penguin (?) visited, she sent me a mountain bike.

Today was proof that it is definitely a Bad Idea for me to take the DS to work :(

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

What, you don't know their names? Is the mallard Bill? He just moved out of my town after a very brief stay...

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

one of Melton's friends, Roald the Penguin, came to live in Pwnage after moving from Metlon's town, Peppers.
that was quite a moment; melton had come to visit Pwnage, and we were probably having a fishing contest or something equally twee, when all of a sudden:
"WTF ROALD"
"FS FKIN TRAITOR"

oh melton, no more tears, b-b-buddy.

teh_kit has 20 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 11 May 2006 06:57 (nineteen years ago)

Pulquedo's mallard is named Drake. I blew off his visit, and he moped for a day. So I sent him a sombrero. The penguin/puffin is Aurora. I now have a little jock of a mouse (Rod) and some bad-ass scarred up dog (can't remember his name, he just moved in). And my eagle seems depressed. Purrl has started calling me "Dainty J", and Brewster talked to me for a few frames last night!

Discovered that it is nigh impossible to play the DS in the car: glare, road bounce causes stylus inaccuracy, motion-sickness inducing powers > reading.

Something weird happened - I got tired of carrying my turnips around from last Saturday, so put them on the green table in my house. Later, when I wanted to sell them, I couldn't pick them up again. I could pick up everything else on the table. Then, my little person just hung her head next to the table and the game quit responding. Even the start button didn't bring up the Save. So I eventually turned it off and then the damn mole came and lectured me for 20 minutes. Two days later, I tried to pick up the turnips again and was successful.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 15 May 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Odd.

Rod just moved into my town as well. I don't think I like him all that much, though. Meanwhile both Daisy and Agent S have given me their pictures. I think Daisy is totally crushing on me. And who wouldn't, given that I wander around town dressed up like a pharoah?

¯\(º_o)/¯ (Chris Piuma), Monday, 15 May 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

I've got to get some more designs made up. Also, wtf is a rustoid? I dug one up and tried to show it to the owl. And, pitfall seeds?

These animals in my town are all about the gossip! Apollo and Purrl got into a huge name-calling fight in front of me, which was unexpected.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 15 May 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

Thunderstorm in my town! And a thunderstorm outside my window in real life. Fantastic.

The rustoid thing is a gyroid, they give your HRA rating a boost and stand around your house making annoying noises, that's all.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, thanks! I shouldn't have sold it off then, the HRA are on to me.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

I think Daisy is totally crushing on me

OMG, I just got a bizarre jealousy pang when I read this, cos even though it's about 3 years since I played any AC at all (and that was on the cube), it still hurts to hear that Daisy fancies somebody new. She used to be mine!

JimD (JimD), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

I hate the damn gyroids. I'm glad there's no longer one wobbling around my house.

I think Daisy had a crush on me in the old AC town too. She has such a pleasingly shaped head, too, and is so sweet, who couldn't be charmed by her?

¯\(º_o)/¯ (Chris Piuma), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

¯\(º_o)/¯

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

So my daughter is visiting for 2 weeks and I encouraged her to play - she has moved in and rearranged all my furniture and changed the carpeting. Also, there are apples and shells all over the house. This is too much like real life.

Also, she says what I thought was a scarred-up dog is a tiger. I didn't see him tonight, because the camel had me running all over delivering carpets.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

in the true spirit of Animal Crossing, i have left a tile outside Apollo's house that says TWAT LIVES HERE.
Melton came to visit the other day, and probably assumed i was being harsh. He went into Apollo's house for a chat, and the next thing i saw in his chat window was "____ING _____!!!"
seems i am a good judge of character, after all.

you people need to come visit Pwnage sometime!

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

Pwnage is in some britishes timezone, right? I always talk to Copper and check to see if there's any distant villages out there, but none so far :( What sort of fruit do you have there? What time are your gates open generally?

The coffee pigeon is chatting me up more every morning. But Pulquedo is a sleepy place so far. Drake is sick, but Cineza bought up all the medicine for her beestings.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

I wish I had animal crossing

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

¯\(º_o)/¯ (Chris Piuma), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

Pwnage is indeed in Britishes timezone. we have orangaes in Pwnage. gates tend to be open pretty randomly, but always UK evening times.
i always organise visits with Melton on MSN (or IRC lately, since MSN is being a total shitbag). if you kids use MSN, add me using my ilx address and we'll take it from there.

Hey kit, check yr hotmail!

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

Wow tbh!

i read about contact mode in the manual and wrote it off as a shit idea. but last night, i went to my roleplay group, a few miles from my house, and i thought, just on the off-chance, that i'd whack AC on contact mode and take it with me. i forgot all about it, obv, but i woke up this morning and charged my dead battery, and logged into Pwnage to find the scary DRAW MY FACE cat wandering around with a game of tic-tac-toe for a face. on asking him about it, he revealed that a kid called DUROC from a town named AUXPUTE had drawn it for him. so i drew him a new one that said LOL in huge letters and ran off, only to bump into Roald the penguin, who showed me his new jumper and told me that A KID from A TOWN had designed it. i guess it didn't transfer all the data for that one... but WOW@Contact Mode! it worked first time, and it's not like i live in a big city or anything. i'm WELL impressed by this. but kinda worried about the Message in a Bottle that i wrote. i have NO idea what the content was, but knowing the way i play animal crossing, it probably wasn't particularly friendly.

so yah, in concolusion, Contact Mode is THE BOMB, and its SO worth switching it on when you're walking around town (irl, obv) or something.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha, no doubt some poor kid switched on Animal Crossing this morning to find their beloved bear walking around town shouting "I picked up a new catchphrase in pwnage, YA CUNT!"

Hey, I just got this for my DS. I'm Remy, in the town Glimmer, if anybody wants to add me... I don't have wi-fi at home, so I'll need to set up a DS date (which I sorta want to do anyway for geek factor) which I'll do via email. Anybody want to trade me a shovel?

remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 20 May 2006 01:13 (nineteen years ago)

I have made a Prince symbol for a constellation.

remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 20 May 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

We'd need your code! But yeah if you come to my town Nook always has shovels. Also I'm now offerning many assorted varieties of fruit (though I still don't have apples, I think).

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 20 May 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

I have this

: )

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 20 May 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

I have apples! And, generally, coconuts (I think I have 5 trees now). Also, my Nook's upgraded to Nookway yesterday.

This morning, we are having rain IRL for the first time since I got the DS, and it was raining in AC which is weirding me out a bit.

I've been working out all the things I can do with all this stuff in my house - rolling around on the bed, twirling the umbrella, turning the tv off/on, playing the marimba :)

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 20 May 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

i have apples now, Meltang brought me some. two trees at the moment, i think, but i planted a few more saplings with the fruits of those.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Saturday, 20 May 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

i'm playing right now, so i opened my gate for the hell of it, in case any of you peoples want to drop in (with presents).

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Saturday, 20 May 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

Hahah! Melton and teh_kit came to my town! But when Melton came into my house, Jaq went into a seizure by that cursed green table, just like with the turnips! I could still see what was going on in the chat window, but couldn't respond. Or move! And Melton got stuck on my couch!

Still, way way cool!

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 20 May 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

lol @ 'Animal Crossing' and DS's for that matter. 8|-

Darramouss ftw! (Darramouss ftw), Sunday, 21 May 2006 00:03 (nineteen years ago)

WTF is with your DS! Or your table!

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 21 May 2006 01:57 (nineteen years ago)

Who knows? Melton's crashed every time I tried to go through his gate, that's why they came to Pulquedo instead. Also - even though I had to shut down without saving, the mole did not come lecture me!

I didn't get a chance to hear KK last week, but just had a listen. It's such a lovely part of the game.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 21 May 2006 02:53 (nineteen years ago)

I still haven't seen KK, and I've only seen the turnip lady once! (I'm looking for her now!)

It's fishing tourney day, so no one will talk to me - they just want to brag about how good they are at fishing.

It's a shame you can't post stuff to friends in other towns, connect to the wifi server, and have them download the mail whenever they can get on. That way we wouldn't have to find a time when we're all free, and could send stuff all the time!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 21 May 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think Joan (the turnip sow) is only there on Sunday mornings. I bought a red turnip seed from her today! So, I can't forget to water it, every day for 2 weeks - this will be a challenge, because we are travelling again this weekend.

I caught 4 fish this morning, but can't figure out if I have to enter them in the tourney. So I donated them all to the museum.

It would be grebt to be able to post you a dress! Then we could try the animal crossdressing. I've been rearranging my house all morning - got rid of the cursed green table and picked up a retro stereo.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 21 May 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

Argh! Who gets up on a Sunday morning (unless it's to go to a bootfair)?

One of my favourite animals in my town has the same table as you, and I'm TERRIFIED to go into their house now just in case my guy goes into fits again!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 21 May 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

to enter fish into the tourney, you just give them to the mayor. or so he said. shit, it's 6:02pm, which means the tourney just finished! due to extreme hangover i played AC for 2 minutes this morning and caught zero fish. bah.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Sunday, 21 May 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

Remy,is this worth buying a DS lite for?

JW (ex machina), Sunday, 21 May 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

As usual I am slow as fark but I got given this as a present on Friday :D :D I'm trying to get up to speed before I start opening me gates to you lot or anything ;)

There was a fishing contest yesterday! And I didn't win, Roald and his SEA BASS pwned me, no SEA BASS I caught was as big. I'm graet at fishin' now though!

Red snapper fish sell for 3000 bells omg. Also, I got told off by a rude mole outside my house this morning because I'd shut the game off without saving (I do that in Zelda all the time), he went on and on and on and on! Rude bastard.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 May 2006 00:43 (nineteen years ago)

In the old game you made all your money catching ocean fish (hence the line about "sea bass -- not again!" But they aren't as common in this one. Barred Knifejaws at 5000 bells each were terrific, but I don't think I've seen one yet in the new game.

I really like Mr Resetti but seriously the three times it happened I was already annoyed that the DS just up and turned off on its own, I didn't need to hear him whine as well. Bah.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 22 May 2006 08:00 (nineteen years ago)

I won the fishing tourney! Bizarre, as I didn't really try this time, where last time I spent all day fishing and got beaten by a Tuna. Today I'm trying to catch an octopus for someone, but haven't been able to find one thus far. I think they're going out of season.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 22 May 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

i caught an octopus! but i couldn't give it to Melton :(
is there NO WAY to give fish to people in this game?

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Monday, 22 May 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

Can you drop it on the ground and have him pick it up?

I didn't win the fishing either, also pwned by a 40.7" sea bass. I did catch the most fish I've ever caught in a day though - like 12 or so, but mostly horse mackerels.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 22 May 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

AC considers dropping fish on the floor cruel, i guess, because it's not an option. it's "SHOW IT OFF" or bust. i spent WEEKS trying to catch a horse mackerel, because Freckles challenged me to catch one EVERY DAY. i'm really bummed that i missed the fishing tourney. damn hangover :(

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Monday, 22 May 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Kit, you can have my fishing trophy if you can convince Chow to come back to Peppers!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 22 May 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

IS IT WORTH GETTING A DS JUST FOR ANIMAL CROSSING?

JW (ex machina), Monday, 22 May 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

There should be an option to give them the fish when you talk to the animal that wanted it, although if you've started up the game again since they last asked you you might have to talk to them until they ask you again, then choose the first conversation option (there should be 3 rather than 2). I didn't win the tournament, Goose went and caught a frigging Coelacanth at the last minute.

Barred knifejaws do exist in this one, and they're still 5000. Coelacanths are 15000 and some of the larger, summer-only fish are around 10000. Red Snappers are much more common than any of them though, they're the best ones to make money with.

xpost - JW, I did, and am not regretting it.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 22 May 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

I guess I'll wait for a DS LITE

JW (ex machina), Monday, 22 May 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Jon: I would get a used DS rather than a new DS lite... mine was $109 at EB.

remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 22 May 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

Also Mario = *****

remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 22 May 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe I'll try that place on St. Marks....

JW (ex machina), Monday, 22 May 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

I lost the fishing tourney by a half inch. I'm waiting to buy a shovel, because I have a cabinet filled with oranges and apples I want to bury for an orchard. Also: I saw K.K. play a samba.

remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 22 May 2006 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

Barred Knifejaws at 5000 bells each were terrific, but I don't think I've seen one yet in the new game.

I caught one! And I had no idea they were rare! So I handed it in at the comp instead of selling it :(

Ive found a list online of what fish are worth what so now I'll know. I've caught squid and octopus but somehow they're not bigger than a fish? eh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 May 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

And where do I get the net for bug catching from? I still havent seen it in the shop. Theres fishing rods, shovels and slingshots (which dammit, is gone today and I didnt buy one) but no net.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 May 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

Trayce, if one doesn't show up in the shop (it took ages for my Nook's to get a slingshot), you can supposedly get one for free from the mayor at the first Bug Hunt. (I was reading up on GameFaq today....)

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 22 May 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

Aha, good point :)

I really should get the wifi thingy hooked up so I can go visit y'alls towns.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 May 2006 23:43 (nineteen years ago)

I basically got the DS for AC, although certainly MKDS also sounded fun and I figured there'd be a Zelda eventually.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 05:48 (nineteen years ago)

Hahahaha! When you play AC on your birthday, EVERYONE gives you great presents AND you get a birthday cake that plays music!

I'm still curious what it will do with the blood type info.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

AMAZING! Did I mention how paranoid I am about being in an awful accident and having to go to hospital for a blood transfusion, but they don't know my blood type. Some clever sod goes, "Look! He had his DS at the time of the accident and Animal Crossing's in there, we can get his blood type from that!"

They give me the wrong blood, because I guessed, and I die because of Nintendo.

Happy birthday Jaq!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

I have 2 guys in my house now, so it felt dumb to give the second guy (Bloopy) the same DOB. So I made one up for him. And now he cant start makin' dime, cos the damn store is closed.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

Right after I was asked for my blood type my neighbour, very oddly, told me "Don't worry, I'm not going to use this information for evil!". Great, I wasn't even suspicious until she said that. Now my character's going to wake up one morning minus a kidney while Tom Nook's counting bells in the back of his shop.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 00:58 (nineteen years ago)

My second guy got asked what his birthday was because the squirrel (I forget his name, the blue squirrel) said he reckoned he was a theif and stealing things! The nerve.

What I am loving most about AC is: playing it for a few minutes here and there - first thing in the morning, a few minutes at lunch, off and on in the evening. Water the turnip, walk on the beach, drink a cup of coffee - each a nice little virtual escape.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

Heh. Did you know the room decoration in the game has feng shui strategy? I've been reading some gamefaq guides on it. It seems kinda complicated, but apparently putting items regarded as being of a certain colour in the right room corners will garner good luck (supposedly in the form of more bell trees, or something, I dunno).

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

I saw that! I don't think I'm ready to try it yet - maybe once my house expands to the third size (and my daughter is gone back home - she likes rearranging the furniture).

Much to my chagrin, I didn't realize I could store things in dressers and armoires until Remy mentioned it upthread. I also was carrying sacks of bells around and had them strewn all over the floor, from idiot lameness of not dragging them into the money pocket. But damn it, my red turnip is thriving!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

Japan in using blood type as justification of zenophobic bias UNSURPRISE.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 25 May 2006 03:34 (nineteen years ago)

(yeah, the feng shui stuff improved my 'luck' apparently; since I color-coordinated my room I've been getting a lot more gifts from neighbors. Still no shovel, though.)

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 25 May 2006 03:35 (nineteen years ago)

The gold shovel you mean, or a normal one?

Gold shovel apaz you can get by burying a shovel (obv u need 2 shovels to do this) and then dig it up the next day and yay gold shoevl!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 25 May 2006 04:42 (nineteen years ago)

I can't even get the regular shovel. I've been playing for a week now, and Tom Nook's never carried it. And no wi-fi yet.

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 25 May 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

Oh bums really? :/ I havent seen the bug net yet actually and Ive been playing all week too, tho my shop was closed y'day which didnt help.

Tell you wot - if you do get wifi lemme know, we can do some swaps =) I think I still sell a shovel and fishing rod.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 25 May 2006 05:26 (nineteen years ago)

Remy, go buy/sell enough stuff at Nook's to get him to upgrade to Nookway (65000 bells worth) - then he will always have an axe, shovel, slingshot, and net.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

When I first started playing on the GC it took ages to get a shovel.

Remy, maybe get one of those USB adaptors for Wifi-ness?

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

I hate to think about specifically seeking out a McD's for wifi, but supposedly theirs is guaranteed compatible with the DS. Anyone tried it?

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

I managed to get my DS to find an access point in McDonalds, but couldn't get it to connect properly. I ended up getting a USB thing anyway, I was paranoid about mugging and it felt a bit weird anyway. And I didn't realise how dark the DS screen was in different lights to the ones in my house. It's so much easier planning stuff with people on MSN while you're in each others' towns too.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Actually - yeah - without having messenger going at the same time, there was no way I could've let Melton know my character was having a seizure - also all the fiddling to get things going at first, since his kept crashing, and tapping out messages on the tiny DS keyboard interface vs. actual typing at computer. Hrm.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

Hey I wonder if my DS will pick up the wifi here in the office... oh wait, its encrypted innit.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

The DS can work with WEP encrpytion, I think. But there are some routers it's seriously unhappy with. Not that I'm encouraging you to try it or anything :)

I decided over the past couple of weeks to quit my job and go back to subcontracting/consulting - just started the separation process at work today. One of my first thoughts - "if I'm working from home again, more time for GAMES!!!" I'm so practical.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 25 May 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah but if the DS hits an encrypted network wouldnt you have to enter a wep key or something? I dont think work wants me to be playing games over its LAN in the office ;)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 26 May 2006 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

True dat. They would know, and that would be bad. I'm tempted to see if I can grab the wifi from the new internet/coffee cafe across the parking lot.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

I DO have Nookway, and I still haven't gotten a shovel!

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

! Well, that sux.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 26 May 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

Remy: Do you know what a shovel looks like?

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 27 May 2006 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

Remy I have my wifi doolally set up now :) Altho at the moment, no shovel in my shop :( I'll email yr my code inna bit.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 May 2006 04:05 (nineteen years ago)

Also anyone else who wants in, email me and send me codey goodness!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 May 2006 04:05 (nineteen years ago)

Uh is that actually your e-mail though?

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 28 May 2006 07:44 (nineteen years ago)

yea that's her email

JW (ex machina), Sunday, 28 May 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

Uh, yeah thanks Jon (its not actually my proper email, just a fwder, but hey, I got all yrs emails!)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 May 2006 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

In other news, OMG I CAUGHT A COLEACANTH. You can only catch them when it is raining and they're worth 15,000 bells!!!*&^W^# :D :D

Little Bloopy is rollin' in dough now.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 May 2006 23:43 (nineteen years ago)

Whoa! I love finding out things like this from ILGers, as I've been tempted to buy the strategy guide/read gamefaqs, but it seems like cheating. Being told by PROPER PEOPLE makes it perfectly fine!

My AC was raining this morning and a couple of hours ago. Lets hope it still is, so I can go fishing (though mine will probably end up in the museum, unless I catch two)!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 29 May 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

I have been trying to catch a coelocanth in the rain all this time (since that's how it worked in the GC version) with no luck. Sigh. It's all been effing sea bass!

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 29 May 2006 02:05 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I thought about museuming it, its an ugly damn fish - but eh, I'm sure I'll catch another one sometime. I love museuming things - the octopus hides in a little jar all the time! And the frog sits up on a lillypad and croaks away. I love the music in the museum, its so peaceful in there with the water blooping away, chills me out when I'm stressy.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 May 2006 02:11 (nineteen years ago)

I shot down the UFO! He didn't suss that it was me who broke his spaceship, but still made me find all the bits that had fallen off it. I got a Pagoda for my trouble.

And June fish rock. I've found 3 huge sharks, with fins sticking out the water and everything. And something else huge with a fin that wasn't a shark, along with some big river fish that seem to be selling for 10000/15000 each.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Friday, 2 June 2006 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

Gasp! Sharks!

I am not finding many fish or bugs in this version. Nor has the UFO even come by.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 2 June 2006 01:48 (nineteen years ago)

Woah, the sharks are out? I havent seen any yet, that coleocanth was the best Ive done so far.

Last night my town was chockers with fireflies! Easy to catch too. This morning I caught a humungous dragonfly as well. I suppose AC thinks sumer is a cumen in, even though poor me is on the bottom of the world where its getting cold :(

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 June 2006 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

OMG Trayce, I came here to post the same thing re: fireflies and big dragonfly!
It's supposed to be summer here, but it's both cold and raining outside.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Friday, 2 June 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

I caught a hammerhead shark last night and saved it in my house; it takes up nearly half of the first extension room. This morning I bought the blue floor / wall; I'm going to have my own aquarium.

Also, I got a shovel.

And I've never seen the UFO. :(

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I forgot to fishing yesterday. And probably won't have time to today. WTF, where are my priorities?

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 2 June 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

I still havent re-upgraded my house, its only on the first extension. I have been really slack at paying off the mortgage.

I'm now stuck on todays damn flea market - everyone keeps barging in to buy stuff off me but no one is home to sell, or is home but isnt selling!

BASTARDS I NEED A WHITE COUCH.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 June 2006 23:37 (nineteen years ago)

BTW in case any of y'all dont know - one random rock a day is the bells rock. If you set yourself up just right (digging holes behind you helps) you can hit it over and over and make loads of money! :D

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 June 2006 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

Trayce, there's a cream sofa in my Nookway today, but my wifi is being dodgy :(

I swear I saw a fish in one of the little ponds earlier, but by the time I ran home to get my fishing pole, it was gone.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 3 June 2006 01:51 (nineteen years ago)

The killifish, the frog, and the crawfish live in the ickle ponds. None of them make you money, though. Today, I caught a hammerhead shark, two eels, a regular old shark, and a barred knifejaw.

I'm looking for bonsais, but I don't have wifi now.

remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 4 June 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

I have a few bonsais, but I like my holly so I'ma keep it sorry ;) I have an azalea one as well, I might sell it or send it to someone =)

I've been on a roll with the rarities! In recent days I've fished and caught an arowana (10k bells!), a giant snakehead (twice, so I could museum one), an angelfish (thats going to the museum too).

And a GIANT birdwing butterfly, its HUGE and 3000 bells.

Say, whats the deal with paintings? I bought one off Red the dodgy bastard and then frankly I didnt know what to do with it. It turned out to be a fake so I wasnt sure I should hang it up at home (bad room rating?), I ended up selling it for 10 bells like a doofus :(

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 4 June 2006 23:21 (nineteen years ago)

BTW I can only wifi when at home and my b/fs PC is on, so I'm usually able to (or have the gate open anyway) between 7-11pm Aus time. I think the time diff is going to hamper my wifi hopes :(

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 4 June 2006 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

I'm also enjoying breeding hybrid flowers. It seems that because I somehow managed to produce a purple tulip, I now get loads of peacock butterflies.

The other insects are proving a bastard to see though. I never see anything but butterflies, bees, fireflies and the occasional tree-bug stick thing. Must have the wrong plants I guess.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 4 June 2006 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

I caught an arowana this morning! But, donated it to the museum. I've yet to see a shark of any sort.

I bought a fake painting off Redd a few weeks ago - you can buy insurance from the weasel for fraud protection, but he won't give you back what you paid for it, plus the policy costs 6k! I've bought 2 other paintings from Redd and donated them.

Other than common butterflies and fireflies, all I get are dragonflies, which I am never ready for when they turn up right in my face. Oh! And I keep getting bitten by mosquitos, but I can't actually see them to catch them!

Here's the worldclock for time reference. I'm generally up far too early in the am, so may happen on your open gates someday.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 4 June 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

Fnarr ;)

Yeah I dont think you can catch the mozzies (not that Ive really tried tbh) but I do know they interrupt you when they bite - so be careful if you see one nearby, and dont be in the middle of landing the biggest fish ever! Cos your line will snap back in and BAM no more fish :(

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 June 2006 00:10 (nineteen years ago)

Tonight while I was out walking around, Rod the jock mouse and Pierce Parrott (also a jock and new to my town) accosted me about being their team wrasslin' partner. When I declined, Pierce told me I needed to read between the lines better! Cheeky critters, wanting a threesome!

Also, Filbert the blue squirrel has been having me carry mash notes to Apollo the cranky eagle. There is definitely something going on with those two - they both keep blushing like mad!

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 5 June 2006 02:23 (nineteen years ago)

You can catch the mosquitoes, they're pretty small, but visible.

I saw something bloody huge and furry scurrying away from me yesterday, looking at gamefaqs I think it must have been a tarantula. And I caught my first hammerhead, although anything gold or with a fin is now in my back room waiting for the next flea market when I can make a fortune selling them for 3 times the normal price.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 5 June 2006 04:05 (nineteen years ago)

I've caught big stick insect things off trees but damn, bugs are so hard to see in grass/on trees.

The send fruit in the mail trick works btw! In fact in one mail I wrote "here's some fruit for you blah blah something orange"

And I got sent an orange. Hm. Wonder if thats why? Anyway woot, orange tree time! I also have a peach tree now that should start fruiting in a day or 2. Plant out a small orchard, then start sellin :D

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 5 June 2006 04:17 (nineteen years ago)

Oh oranges are native for me. But I have all the fruits now, so if you ever come over then la la la! You can have them!

Also if you have a bonsai then you can order one from Tom from your catalog and then give it to Remy should he go wireless.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 06:32 (nineteen years ago)

the residents of pwnage are now actually hassling me to have more people come visit.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

Mine too. Maybe we should try again this weekend and come to pwnage? Also, mine are harrassing me about not writing enough letters.

I've been running around in swim goggles and a halo for about a week now, but bought the knight's helmet yesterday.

I caught something from a tree trunk last night - lantern something? Is it possible to shake the trees when you are carrying the net? All I can manage is the occasional whack of the leaves. I want to knock the bees' nest out then catch the whole swarm. Last time they came after me, I almost got into the gate building! (Not that it would stop them...)

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

i'm all up for a visit this weekend! yell at me on MSN.

i don't think you can shake trees w/net in hand. i only ever saw one insect on a tree, some kinda spider - before i'd bought a net!

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks to Carl in Eldorado and my eagle Apollo, I've got all the various fruits going now, though my newly planted pears haven't been doing very well :(

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

Apollo moved out of my town! HOORAH!

i now have the TWAT LIVES HERE pattern as my town flag.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

I like Apollo much better than Rod and Pierce! He never gets up before noon and doesn't go on about his abs and muscle freeze. Cranky, but dignified. Also, he was crushing on me before he and Filbert hooked up, so I have a soft spot for him. I finally got Dotty to move out by never giving her the furniture she wanted. Pierce keeps asking me for shirts, so I am sending him common seashells instead.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

i only genuinely like one of the animals in my town, if i'm perfectly honest. FRECKLES U R A TREAT.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Goose just moved out of mine, I could never stand him. Goose is a silly name for a chicken anyway.

You can catch bees, not the whole swarm though. Shake the tree, switch to the menu quickly (they'll swarm round and round your head and never sting you while you're in the menu) and equip the net, then exit the menu and hope you can swing it quickly enough. They're worth about 4 or 5000 each.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

Woah are they? I must give that a try.

My peaches have started fruiting so I have planted out more peach trees. I had anotehr run of expensive rare fish-catching the other day - another coleacanth, and TWO garfish (big things with long snouty thingies). One to sell, one for the museum and GOODBYE MORTGAGE!

So, what US/UK time will people be online on the weekend? If I work it right I might be able to, eg, stay up late Friday night which must be someone's friday morning.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 23:24 (nineteen years ago)

Trayce, you can check for me on AIM (my screen name is them!north!rds but not googleproofed).

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

I started playing this last night (bought my kids a DS each on Monday) and I think I may have found a Sim/RPG type game that I can actually be arsed playing :)

Only played for about half an hour, long enough to have a wander around and speak to everyone and run a couple of errands for Nook. Got a hell of a long lecture from the mole dude for not saving my game - "next time I need to speak to you I'll be wearing my Angry Hat sunshine! It's a big hat!" LOL
Still haven't got any Bells :(

Has anyone tried the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi thingy? Is it any good? I can't be arsed with buying a router and setting it up and the USB thing looks an easy option.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Trayce, I'm generally on around 5:30/6 am. I think my Saturday morning is your Sunday afternoon? Because it is always tomorrow already where you are. You can find me on AIM as s3attlesk!3s and on MSN at s3attle_sk!es (@) h0tmail (both degoogled).

Onimo - get your time done with Nook, then start shaking them trees!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

onimo - melton uses the USB wifi thingy. it works fine, we've visited each other's towns a few times.

mail me your friend code & town/player names, we'll have to hook up sometime!

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

I use the Nintendo wifi dongle and it works a treat, better than my actual wireless - no fiddling, you just install it and it goes, tho I imagine you would have to disable any other wireless in the house maybe?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 June 2006 01:24 (nineteen years ago)

ok, just got this set up last night and cleared my Nook duty this morning. I'll get the wifi sorted out and then maybe someone would like to come visit?

Frobert=excellent name for a frog.

patita (patita), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

I'll send my friend code to you tonight. What did you name your town?

It is not working out for me to try to catch those bees. As soon as they start buzzing around, I can't get the net to move. But, I did manage to catch a mosquito!

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

TRAYCE, DON'T TOUCH COMPUTERS

lord pooperton (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

my dongle is my friend.

jeffrey (johnson), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

I'll post mine on here, am not bothered who sees it

Cress followed by teardrop sign
Town: Crux

2577-6818-1465

I'm in the UK, but not on UK time (I'm not sure what time zone it would be but 11pm in the game = 6am here. America somewhere probably). My real email is xocolata@gmail.com if anyone wants to send me their code.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

Jon, don't touch women, k?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

(IOW, I am not interested in your shit today, so kindly shut the hell up and go eat some cheeze wizz from a can or something. Please.)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway! I've been on the wifi a few times, but as stated before its the time difference that's ruining it for me. I guess I'm just not synching up with anyone (no suprise really).

Have to get a few local mongrels in on the thang. Haitch! Get one AC.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 23:03 (nineteen years ago)

Birdland is my town, but the wifi connection is giving me fits. Anyone have theirs set up over an Airport?

patita (patita), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 03:04 (nineteen years ago)

Getting the access point connection but not the server. off to google for help.

patita (patita), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

My gates will be open for the next half hour or so.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 03:26 (nineteen years ago)

Patita, check out http://www.nintendowifi.com too. That helped me get mine going (though PC, not over Airport).

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 03:36 (nineteen years ago)

I keep reading "my gates are open" completely the wrong way =)

BTW anyone else who hasnt yet added my code/me theirs, pls email me (the below is a real email). All I can do is open the gate when I'm online and see who happens by I guess.

Hey even if one never traverses the town gate threshold into landes unknownne, does the fact you connect to the AC server mean other things happen? I mean if you have a character who leaves wearing a shirt you designed for eg, or the Blanca face cat or something - could that end up who knows where without you actually being in anyone elses town?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 04:14 (nineteen years ago)

I have a girlfriend and she isn't an ugly troll like you, k thx bye

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 05:14 (nineteen years ago)

C'mon dude, this is ILG! Get one fun.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 06:22 (nineteen years ago)

you kids need to stfu before i knock your heads together. wait til your dad gets home. don't make me come down there. go to your room. no tv til you finish your homework. etc etc etc.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah Trayce - if you just go online, you get stuff! I was online for Cinco de Mayo and Nintendo sent me a letter with a sombrero in it. I think any bottle mail you've sent gets out into the wider world too.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

I think any bottle mail you've sent gets out into the wider world too.

Ohhh dear. This is dreadful news :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

Hahahahaha!!! We need to play this weekend Melton - I'll look for you on msn. I'm ditched the halo and dawn shirt and now am running around in an eyepatch, cavalier hat, and night sky shirt.

This morning, I went out to water the red turnips I've been nurturing for two and three weeks, and THEY WERE GONE!!!!! It was raining all day yesterday in Pulquedo, so I must've forgot to water them :((((

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

bottle mail only gets someplace via Contact Mode, as far as i know:

you have to buy a bottle message to be able to enable contact mode. after the one and only time i actually passed someone while in contact mode, i had to go to nook's and buy another bottle message before i could enable contact mode again. also, melton once received my bottle mail once, so i guess it gets transfered in multiplayer, too.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Bottle mail goes out in wifi too, mine all seem to get somewhere.

Rain does water turnips but I'm not sure you're supposed to leave them for 2-3 weeks, they reach max price after a week. It probably rotted.

And I have a couple of villagers telling me about towns I've never heard of that they used to live in, so I think they can travel across wifi too.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

No! The red turnips are worth $10k at one week and $16k at week 2. Who knows what they might be worth at week 3!? I don't know if I'm patient enough to try that again though.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure they're 16k after a week. I'll check on Sunday.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

No, they're like 8k after a week and 16k after two. That was all the patience I've had for them so far.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

The 16k must kick in no day 8 then, because mine was buried a week and a bit and I got 16k too. I totally wasnt expecting that. No wonder they'll only sell you one a week.

Ohhh dear. This is dreadful news :(

Oh meltonpaws ;P

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

Oh by the way! I dont know if this is an across the board or a random thing, but my Nook is buying turnips for over 500 bells today (!!!)

So seeing as I'm in the FUTAR, if the price is standard somehow, y'all should sell sell.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

i've only seen the turnip seller ONCE since i bought the game.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:07 (nineteen years ago)

You're have thought the "OFFICIAL PLAYAS GUIDE" would solve the Turnip dispute, but there's nothing in there about the price!

We all NEED to do wifi, after Kit showed me that you could SAVE whilst playing in someone else's town! No more worries about the connection dropping out and losing everything. Trayce, I'll email you in a bit with my friend code and stuff, right after I see what tat Nook's selling today :)

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:28 (nineteen years ago)

kit: teh old turnip lady only shows up sunday mornings. I bet a lot of ppl miss her from sleeping in!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 June 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

SHIT. I missed playing for one day and my red turnip is GONE! wtf. &*%^%#$#

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 June 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

I lost one once even though I watered it (just) before midnight!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 15 June 2006 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

Hm. Maybe everyone's just got nicked today?

:(

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

!!!

I've never had any luck getting my animals to send me fruit through the mail. Maybe some coconuts will wash up.

My favorite cat (Mitzi) moved out, but I have a new teddy bear critter named Maple who looks adorable. Scary Blanca showed up yesterday with a Texas flag for a face!

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Maple just moved in for me too! She won't talk about anything but lovely furniture. Meanwhile I'm getting hit on by Cube the Penguin.

Still no progress on the wifi situation--it's connecting to the Airport, but not to Nintendo's server. stupid real life taking up time to be used on Animal Crossing!

patita (patita), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

Yesterday there was a tent in the town hall courtyard with a fortune telling cat in it who was a bit of a ripoff, just told me a load of bollocks about hippos holding up bridges or something.

And because she was in town, every time I broke into a run, I'd fall flat on my face! :| (Nick googled to find out why I was fallin over, seems that was why).

I now have apples, peaches, oranges and coconuts. The coconut trees harbour these frightening big bugs (palmettos?) that always fly off before I get to them. Ive caught a few other gigantor moth/butterfly thingies.

Now Nick wants me to buy him a copy of AC haha... first time I've gotten HIM into a game.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

I've made Pierce the Parrot into a faux aussie by making him say g'day mate and ya tosser :) I've tried sneaking up on the coconuts and whapping them with the net to get those big bugs but no luck so far. Also, I'll be damned if I can catch any of those swarming bees.

Two of my animals gave me their pictures!!! Rolf the gruff tiger and Olivia the snotty cat. And Twiggy (I can't tell what he is - a bird of some sort?) keeps begging me to buy him blue furniture.

Patita - puzzling about the WFC - there's some stuff about possible firewall/adware/spyware/antivirus compatibility issues here: http://www.nintendowifi.com/consumerservice/showTopic.do?topicId=ConHelp_unable_connect_wfc&catId=Connecting_Home

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

Haha my animals say things like zitface and asshat. I always lose it when someone gets cranky and says "hey asshat" at me.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

Hahahaha! I think it was in Cracker's town that one of the squirrels was yelling Nutjuggler :)

I was able to run away from a bee attack tonight and get into Tom Nook's before they got me. I got my net out in case they were lingering around outside, but no, they were gone.

Also, I got the golden shovel and planted some money, and now I'm getting at least 10 bags of bells from my trees - I don't know if this is actually related. The tree that sprouted from the money bag seems to have apples on it generally.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:00 (nineteen years ago)

Woah, it does that many bell bags? I didnt realise.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:19 (nineteen years ago)

Still just 100 bells each, unlike the 5 bags that spring from the rock which always totals 2500.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

I am rubbish at fishing.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, Jaq! That's it, I'll bet 100 bells on it. Now to fiddle with ports and stuff. I've got most of the evening free, so there's a good shot I can finally get it fixed.

I found out last night :( The spider FLEW AT MY FACE :/ And big yellow stars flashed all round my head, then the screen fades out and you wake up face down in front of your house *chortle*.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 June 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently there's a scorpion as well. Argh! This game's dangerous!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 June 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe you got that special Australian edition, where everything's POISONOUS!!!! DON'T EAT THE FRUIT!!!

I just let the bees sting me now. It's no use running from them and I can't swipe at them with the net quickly enough. It's 100 bells a shot since I paid the weasel for insurance, at least.

Also, I just got the second story added onto my house, so I have room for Mr. Flamingo and my traffic cone collection. Some fool was recycling an ivory piano though, so I may have to set up a music room.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 26 June 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

As you know, I am all about the music room.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

My second story is currently a games room, with arcades and pinball tables. It's very noisy and annoying though, so I'll probably turn it into a trophy/RARE ITEMS room or something instead. Hopefully I can find some time for a game tonight as I've not played in a while, but it's getting late and I've got rented games to play before I take them back :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

Your music room was most impressive! I would have piano, marimba, retro stereo, and white boombox in mine so far. I also found I have many many bonsai, so I put up an ivy wall and am trying it out as a plant room.

My Nookway had the throne in the spotlight the other day - 800,000 bells!!!

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 26 June 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, I've been wanting one of them. And a royal crown (1.2 million bells), but the only time I saw one of them was when I didn't have nearly enough for it. I've nearly completed the space and robo sets and will sort my house out when I've done that, at the minute it's just full of fossils and fish I'm saving for the flea market.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 26 June 2006 23:19 (nineteen years ago)

I have a music room! and OMG Jaq, I will totally buy your ivory piano if you dont want it!

I can add it to my upstairs room, which I made to look a bit like the Letterman set. It has a city skyline wallpaper, and I have in it 2 rock guitars (1 red, one green), a cello and double bass, a folk guitar, a ukelele, a vibraphone, a lute, and um... thats it. I think I'm missing a Japanese drum, harp, violin, and I guess the pianos, but that'd be going a bit nuts and it wouldnt all fit.

I don't imagine it'd get good HRA points seeing as I've mixed about 4 diff sets together. I do know my feng shui downstairs is working a traet tho. I have the yellow, red and green corners all set, and these days I get way more rare shells, fish and gifts, and more bell bags.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

Hey btw how does the flea market day work on wifi? Will animals come thru your gate from other ppls towns to shop?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 01:44 (nineteen years ago)

and more bell bags.

Hahaha, sometimes I love my crappy eyesight!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

i got 9000 from the HRA the other day, so suck mah bells.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

I wonder how the flea market would work, since when you open your gates, all your animals go to their homes and stay put there. I've used this to make those quick deliveries when I can't be bothered to run all over creation looking for Filbert or Olivia.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

I was thinking we should do some HRA cockwaving, except I know I'm not all that great in that department. Still, at just over 16,000, they seem pleased enough. But I don't have teh feng shui all up ons.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

166000 HRA points. I've got 16 villager pics so far (which are 3200 a piece), and filled the house with all the gyroids (888 points each) and fossils (1000 points) just for one Sunday so I could see how many points, in theory I'd get. They sent me some little models of my house in the post, which was pretty cool.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

Cress, that's impressive! I didn't realize the animal photos were worth so much - is there a trick to getting them? I keep giving my villagers the stuff they ask for (though the little guy collecting the blue furniture has gotten very demanding) and try to be regular about sending them letters (have slacked off on this), but I've only gotten 2 photos.

What I really want is Brewster's photo.

Also - I was in the Town Hall making a donation the other day and noticed a bald guy with glasses snoozing at a desk back behind Pelly. Is that Petey?

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's the mayor, Tortimer. In the GC version you could wait at your mailbox to catch Pete and talk to him.

The ongoing wifi saga has escalated to calling Nintendo and having one of their experts call me back tonight. It's looking like I'll need to buy a new wireless router to get it working, though (the original Apple base station isn't playing nice).

patita (patita), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

I love how Tortimer is snoozing behind the counter at his desk most of the time =)

I think I have about 16000 HRA points. I have 3 photos, but I got them without giving my town friends anything much. Fuck buying a modern furniture, Maelle. I talk to them a LOT though, and I visit them all daily in their houses, and I run their errands and I always send people mail with presents. I managed to even get a photo off grumpy Static, who even though he is a rude grump seems to have the hots for me, or something.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe that's it - I don't talk to them very much. I wave alot, from a distance :) A couple have been rude to me when I stopped by their houses. I got into a shoving match with the snotty cat when she came to my place and disparaged my style. But she's one that gave me her photo! Maybe she didn't notice me bashing into her.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

How do you wave to people? I read about that and I forget what button does it now.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 02:30 (nineteen years ago)

When they are too far away from you to talk to them, just tap them on the head. You can wave even if your hands are full of equipment, and everybody gets all sparkly and smiles :D

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 02:40 (nineteen years ago)

Aw man now I have to try that!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 03:33 (nineteen years ago)

Heh speaking of shoving matches - me and Nick now both have a DS, and have been raiding each others towns for fruit and such. The other day we stood there biffing each other with our nets for ages and laughing like dorks.

He also said "Aw I wish our characters could hold hands!". Man, we're dorks.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 03:54 (nineteen years ago)

jeffrey (johnson), Saturday, 1 July 2006 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

Make another character for the flea market and they'll all come round for that character too. I usually use one character to set all the stuff out, then my main one to sell it all (you get more money if your relationship is higher with the villagers). Also, leave the room (if you have more than one room), then return, and the villager already in your house will buy more stuff from you.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Saturday, 1 July 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

why is wi-usb so stupid expensive

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Saturday, 1 July 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Re the flea market also, was it just my imagination or did any villagers that didnt make it over til later at night (like close to midnight) pay more bells as they're more desperate for the items? I didnt make any Nooks price list comparisons so I wasnt sure. I was able to sell a fossil skull for 6000 though which Im sure is more than Nook would pay.

Oh and recall our debate a while ago about how long you need to grow a red turnip for? Well I just tested the theory again: I planted one last Sunday, grew it all week, and dug it up this morning (Monday). Its thus only been 8 days yet it went for 16000 at Nooks! :D

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 2 July 2006 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

Argh, what a morning in town. My best friend is trying to leave and I'm trying to stop her, whilst another villager is sick and bloody Tom Nook is closed for renovations again so I can't get any medicine.

I'm getting my Wi-Fi USB this afternoon ^___^

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 3 July 2006 00:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I forgot to post the turnip thing when I tried it. Buried on Sunday, dug up and sold the next Sunday for 16000 (and the same again this week). If it's still 16k on the Monday then they probably don't ever go any higher, thought I might try digging the next up on the Saturday to see how much it is. Not this week though, I got up too late to see Joan.

Fossils vary in price, T-rex skulls are 6000 if you sell them at Nook's. I found that if you have a good relationship with the villager you're selling to, they'll buy anything for just under 3x the selling price at Nook's (which is a quarter of the price he sells things to you for)

xpost - go on wifi when you get it and it'll cure any ill animals.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 3 July 2006 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yah, I know. (I read FAQ)

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 3 July 2006 00:16 (nineteen years ago)

I've got 3 red turnips going now - but I've forgotten which one I planted first! So, I will dig them all up next Sunday and see how much I get.

I put a bunch of those twitchy 'oid things out to sell, but only got rid of 2. What does it take to get a critter to leave? They seem to keep staring plaintively at my stuff for ages and ages, until I head for the door myself.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 3 July 2006 00:50 (nineteen years ago)

I think thats all that gets rid of them. Which is dumb. I put out a heap of walls and rugs, as I'm overloaded with them, and no one was interested. I managed to flog off a few shirts but in the main, people wanted the good furniture I am not interested in selling (its the pricey classic and exotic series stuff).

What I tried to plan, but it didnt work as well as I'd like, was to put away all my "regular" stuff and lay out the crap I wanted to sell, like a little shop. Only I needed tables to put things on so of course they wanted to buy the damn tables didnt they. I was also worried that my faffing about with that would wreck up my HRA but it seems not to have (I'm up to 29500 on my HRA points!)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 3 July 2006 01:01 (nineteen years ago)

I found if you wait in arkward silence for about half-a-minute, they'll leave on their own accord.

I think I'm getting my friend to stay in town :-)

and due to a fedex fuck up, I won't have my wifi hub til Wednesday!

patita (patita), Monday, 3 July 2006 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

Esteban, if you beg them 3 times not to leave, then they'll stay - but if you don't talk to them close to everyday after that and write to them, they will up and leave without saying goodbye.

There will be WEEDS EVERYWHERE!

I turned my second shovel golden, thinking it would be worth many bells to Nook. Not true. Only 125, and he is all shocked that you would be selling such a precious item.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 8 July 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Speaking of weeds, I found a 4-leaf clover today. Also, I now have a 3 week old red turnip (along w/ a 2 week old and 1 week old). After I buy a new one tomorrow morning and plant it for one day, I'm taking them all in to Nook's to see what I get for them (on Monday).

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 8 July 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

I frigged up another red turnip forgetting to water it, ARRRR.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 9 July 2006 23:06 (nineteen years ago)

Are the four-leaf clovers good for anything? I kept one around for a while but it didn't seem to make me any luckier.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 9 July 2006 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

They are good to wear in your hair :)

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 9 July 2006 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

I think they add to yr feng shui luck if you put them in a book in yr house, so Ive read anyway. I am definitely noticing a marked increase in rare fish and bugs now Im following feng shui (red/yellow/green corners).

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 10 July 2006 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to give the feng shui a go. I haven't found a worthy shell (nothing but sand dollars and Dall's tops) for over a month. One thing I did notice after I found the clover - I came across lots of those 'oids to dig up, many more than the 1 or 2 I usually come across.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 10 July 2006 02:32 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I find white scallops, conches, I get giant palm tree bugs like the elephant and the goliath beetles, even had a few shooting stars.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 10 July 2006 03:16 (nineteen years ago)

more leik feng shite amirite, I just caught an elephant beetle yesterday!

I'm going to try an Old Wives' Tale to fix my USB now. If it doesn't work, I'm going to get a new hub.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 10 July 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

I finally got bitten by a tarantula. Then 30 seconds later by a scorpion too. My town has become pretty dangerous lately.

Ignore the feng shui stuff (as in the colour placements) and get the lucky items instead (clover, gnome, lucky cats, house/shop models, jack in the box, Triforce). You'll get lots of rare bugs, and probably get bitten by them as soon as you leave the house.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

So, I dug up and sold my 4 red turnips today with the following results:

1 day old turnip (purchased yesterday morning): 100 bells :(
8 day old turnip (purchased 7/2): 16,000 bells
15 day old turnip (purchased 6/25): 16,000 bells
22 day old turnip (purchased 6/18): 16,000 bells

Next, I'll test the values from 2 - 7 days.

So, not worth it to water for more than 8 days.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 10 July 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Excellent stuff, Jaq! Thanks for those results :D

Cress is probably korrekt about the lucky items to be honest. I have both that and the fengshui so I couldnt say what's helping. I have a gnome and the lovely phone (it tells yr fortune, heh) a shop model.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 00:10 (nineteen years ago)

I got Dora (white mouse?) who moved in today telling me about feng shui! WTF is the "south side" of your house? Where the door is? I mean on a normal map, that would be it, but there's no compass points on the village map.

It's time for me to redecorate anyway, so I will put some green thing wherever the south is - does the clover count?

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

Yellow goes in the top left corner (ie furthest from the door), red in the top right, then down the sides it is yellow/green on the left, red/green on the right, and green down the front (door aside, obv).

Only certain objects count as a "colour", tho many are obvious (red and yellow roses, red bonsais, green pantries/wardrobes, green lava lamp etc etc).

Yeah I kinda cheated and read loads of faqs :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm. I left the clover by the front wall, and immediately found a pearl oyster. I definitely noticed a huge drop in finding cool stuff when I reorganized my place - it looks v.v. classy, all regal furniture and screens and bonsais (and 29k HRA points), but maybe better to find cool stuff.

Does the feng shui only apply to the main floor, do you know?

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 02:29 (nineteen years ago)

It's the two lines closest to the walls in all rooms, I think.

Step 1: Go out and get new USB card
Step 2: Install everything
Step 3: Find someone to play AC with
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 03:49 (nineteen years ago)

Damn - I gave the birthday cake away. I thought I could buy another one from the catalog, but no.

I also forgot the phrase I gave Pierce the other day, and apparently he has been chatting up the others, as they started yelling "Spank me!" at me last night and made me laugh so hard I got gin & tonic up my nose.

My network connection was trashed this weekend, apparently due to the heat. It seemed better last night. I'll read up on how to save during on-line play and have my gates open more.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

i REALLY have to play this more.

save during online play is easy: press start

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

Haha someone I know showed me a friends set of pics of one of their animals saying "...in my ass" after everything. Absolute crackup.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

teh_kit, I don't know about that online save - when I had my gates open tonight and pressed start, all I could do was save and end. Maybe it's different when you are the visitor. The trouble is the damn network connection keeps dropping and the game resetting. I thought if I could get Pelly to save my mailbox, all would be well, but I don't get that option when the gate is open.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

I was under the impression Greg's right - start on a wifi game saves if you're the host, and sends an "I want to save" request to the host if youre the visitor. I think. I havent tried wifi yet, only ds to ds.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 02:47 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, me and meltang tried it a few weeks back. Start button saves if you're hosting, if you're visiting, it makes you say "I WANT 2 SAEV!". hopefully the host takes the hint and hits save.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

Probably has to be an actual visitor in your town then, for it to not end the game as well.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

So, I'm travelling for work to Toronto for a week. Should I get the Nintendo USB wifi adapter thing for my laptop? I am sorely tempted to do so.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 13 July 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

I gave away my copy of this. What a miserable little game.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Friday, 14 July 2006 00:12 (nineteen years ago)

Thats SUCH a helpful thing to say on a thread full of twee happy animalxing lovers. How kind of you.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 14 July 2006 01:11 (nineteen years ago)

Shall we whap him with nets? Or axes?

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 14 July 2006 01:28 (nineteen years ago)

Shake me until bees and apples fall out of my ass.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Friday, 14 July 2006 04:34 (nineteen years ago)

Animal Xing in not being for everyone shockah, I suppose.

I went back to the Gamecube version briefly and realized how much more engaging the graphics are on that version! The DS version is in many ways the better game but it's just not as eye candy as the GC version.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 14 July 2006 05:06 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I saw some screenies of the GCN version and was suprised, tho I tend to forget how crammed in things are on the DS I guess.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 14 July 2006 05:17 (nineteen years ago)

I have started playing this! I traded my friend my copy of super mario since i cldn't find my own animal crossing but since he never plays his ds i will still have access to mario whenever i want. i am evil.

It's every bit as wonderful as teh cube version and hopefully wifi will stop me getting bored with it after a couple of months. woohoo.

Dxy (Danny), Friday, 14 July 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

I think I am going to get the USB thingy, since the connection at home is so dodgy. But I wouldn't use it to play at work. No. I would never do that. Certainly not. [ahem]

For the first time ever, Nook refused to let me order from the catalog. wtf?

Also. That red turnip I dug up prematurely? I buried it again to see if maybe the golden shovel would work some magic on it. Or, that it would just go away. But no, I dug it up this morning and it's just the same. I tucked it in with a bunch of coconuts and sold it to Nook for 100.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 14 July 2006 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

Ok, this thread made me buy this for my girlfriend (and me), and now she is dying to visit other towns, does anyone want to swap friend codes. This email address should work.

Merrini (Mezza), Friday, 14 July 2006 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

Heh, Octavian forced me to bring it to work because he would only come over to visit over my lunch hour. Silly octopus!

patita (patita), Friday, 14 July 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

Every critter in my town is having a birthday this month (then moving out apparently).

Merrini, I sent you my code.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 14 July 2006 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

AT FUCKING LAST I've set up the Nintendo Wi-Fi so I now can play with y'all. Friend Code avaliable upon request, kids!

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 15 July 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Mr. Jaq got a DS today, so he can have his own for Brain Age and the Nintendog (which is definitely HIS dog...) and now we can play AC together. We moved his character out of Pulquedo, which was interesting, and he came over with his oranges and ran off with a pile of apples.

Rolf, who I had grown to like quite a bit for all his gruff rudeness, moved out about a week ago. The flowers he'd planted around his house by the beach have all died now, it had been that long. And who should I run into in Polito (Mr. Jaq's town)??? He was embarassed at first, then got all gruff on me and told me not to bother him. This kind of detail is so great.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 17 July 2006 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

I WON TEH BUG-OFF! I played it like eBay sniping - I caught a big peacock butterfly and waited til about 5.30pm, then BAM handed it in. WINNAR IS ME. Now I have a nice big trophy on my mantle :D

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 July 2006 02:31 (nineteen years ago)

Yay Trakky!!! All I got today was cicadas, both brown and robust. But, I had the biggest one going at around 4:30 (69 cm brown cicada).

AND! My HRA points are over 49k!!! Could it be just the clover? I did get a few more critter pics. And have put mostly exotic furniture up in the plant room....

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 17 July 2006 02:36 (nineteen years ago)

A winner was me in Teh Bug-Off too. I snared a birdwing and easily won.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 17 July 2006 03:55 (nineteen years ago)

My HRA is over 50k now - I thought I got my first house model reward at that level, but it must be higher maybe :(

Soz I still havent been on the wifi folx, I'm such a slackarse.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:15 (nineteen years ago)

And I sent a nice telegraph so you should!

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 17 July 2006 06:55 (nineteen years ago)

How do you find out if you have won the bug off? I was winning with a blue emperor butter fly, but then had to go out so wasn't around for the finish?

Merrini (Mezza), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:47 (nineteen years ago)

There'll be a notice on the Bulletin Board and if you won, you should get a letter from the Mayor with a nice trophy in it.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ is a GE Money Genie (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

I forgot about the bug off. I had an oak silk mothsaved in my house ready for it too (which might be cheating, but it's payback for when Kid Kat won the fish one with that coelacanth he supposedly caught on the day even though it wasn't raining. The villagers all cheat at these things too).

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

I did get yr telegrammatical message Esetb!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I tipe gude.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't been able to keep my gates open, because our connection keeps dropping ("sorry ma'am, it's the heat, it's the wind, it's the alignment of the planets" WHATEVER, just FIX IT!). So it was great fun to play DS-to-DS with Mr. Jaq. I bashed in to him first thing when he came through my gate and he was all "was that a kiss??" Hahaha! We'll have to make little nekkid shirts to wear, like warped versions of those 70s "Love Is..." cartoon kids.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 17 July 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

I think I'm playing far too much Animal Crossing. My boss always reminds me of Tom Nook and ILM-hated pop girl Lily Allen reminds me of Purrl the kitty. Aaarrrggghhh ^__^

But I still haven't visited another town or had anyone visit me yet!

Esteban I'll send you my code when I get home, but you are in Australia right? So the time zone thing may be a problem.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'll finally have the time and ability to visit folks this weekend!
Esteban, my friend code will be on its way to you in a few hours (when I get home).

patita (patita), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Patita, I'm traveling all day this Saturday and next, but will be on-line Sunday (got the USB wifi thing to try out on my laptop). I'll look for you!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 01:58 (nineteen years ago)

Time zone is a pain in the arse, but you might find me if I've got a little insomnia or if I'm up rather early. Codes will be sent as soon as I stop falling asleep...

My husband's cousin laughs like Tom Nook. It was a frightening realization.

I just got Nookington's, so now there's not only Nook, but his spawn Timmy and Tommy(?). Now he's all posh in a blue suit and tie and the music is swanky.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 20 July 2006 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

They're his nephews actually. I need someone to buy from my Tom Nook's before I can get Nookington's!

To further report on the red turnip test:

Bought last Sunday, sold this Sunday = 16,000

I haven't tried the USB wifi thingy yet but will get it set up sometime today.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Sunday, 30 July 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

So, we are switching our connectivity technology away from cable, because it's just awful - always dropping. There's a thing here called Clearwire that gets high marks from friends who use it, so we are probably going to give it a go. I wanted the Nintendo USB wifi thingy to work regardless of my normal connection, but that is not the way of things. (I was envisioning the airwaves filled with Nintendo DS hooks that it could just magically grab on to....)

Then, maybe, I will be back on-line with Pulquedo's gates open.

Mr. Jaq and I re-united the lost kitten and its mama last night. Apollo moved out and I am v. sad because really he was a favorite, though a right grouch. I have a lion named Elvis now who has 2 thrones in his place. I'm going to send him chairs and see if he recycles.

And, the red turnip report:
Bought on Sunday, sold on Saturday = $16,000.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 30 July 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

omg. how 2 liek Apollo plz?

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 31 July 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

I bought a zelda triforce!!! It was for sale at Redd's ripoff emporium. So like, I hope it never shows up anywhere else, cuz I paid 20,000 bells for that fukka.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 31 July 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

i played this today for the first time since forever. in fact, one townie claimed i hadn't spoken to him for SEVEN WEEKS. the rest said three, so i think he's full of shit. may have to dust off the TWAT LIVES HERE tile if he keeps spilling out such LIES.

teh_kit haev been evicted, oh noes! (g-kit), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

I think I've got Mr. Jaq completely hooked now. We were playing last night, I was catching bugs (first silk moth! Emerald fruit beetles!) and teaching him to catch fish when he said "oh oh there was a weird beetle in the house today!" I'm all "how did you catch it, you can't get your net out in the house?" Of course, he meant a beetle in our actual house. Doh.

Anyway, all my critters have moved over to his town. One of his has moved over to mine. And we are getting more bottle mail than ever.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 3 August 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

i was reminded while playing today that the "TWAT LIVES HERE" tile is, in fact, my town flag at the moment.

OTM tbh

teh_kit haev been evicted, oh noes! (g-kit), Thursday, 3 August 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

I'm trying to prevent Pierce the Parrot (who greets me with "Spank me!!") from moving out. I got him to cry last night, so maybe he'll stay.

Didn't you make the TWAT sign for Apollo? Is he still there in Pwnage?

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 3 August 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

I did indeed make the TWAT sign for Apollo. but now it is MINE.
And no, he's no longer in Pwnage, hoorah!

b-b-b-but Chevre moved out yesterday! :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( 4 realz

She was the only one that i liked. No more Freckles, no more Chevre, all mah bitches are leaving. I guess Bob is ok... he can be a bit creepy at times. But I guess beggers can't be choosers.
Pwnage is even more ghetto after my alleged 7 week absence.

SOMEBODY NEEDS TO CLEAN UP THIS TOWN *spits tobacco*

teh_kit haev been evicted, oh noes! (g-kit), Friday, 4 August 2006 07:01 (nineteen years ago)

Did I mention how I was walking around downtown and a green dragonfly came swooping by and I thought "oh, where's my net?" and then realized I couldn't take the bug to Powell's for some bells even if I did manage to catch it.

Daisy greeted me for my birthday and gave me cake. She's still the best.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 4 August 2006 07:21 (nineteen years ago)

Can anyone explain why my girlfriend can sit there catching shark after shark, whilst all I ever seem to catch is boots and tyres. We both live in the same house so it can't be feng shui, unless only items that I have placed in the house count. Is my character being punished for teaching all the other characters to swear.

I guess the obvious answer is that I suck at fishing :(

Merrini (Mezza), Friday, 4 August 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

This week's red turnip report:

Purchased Sunday, sold on Friday = $8,000 bells. So the minimum to go for to get 16,000 is Sunday - Saturday.

What time of day are you fishing Merrini? Early morning and dusk seem to be especially good for me, though there are lots of mosquitos then. I did catch a tin can yesterday, as well as a barred knifejaw. I've finally got enough stuff in the museum Blathers isn't constantly apologizing for its patheticness.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 5 August 2006 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

YEAAAHHH FIREWORKS NIGHT TONIGHT

Purrl is leaving and I can't be bothered stopping her. I like her but not as much as Lucy or Patty or Bones. Hopefully I'll get someone new who isn't some jerkoff asshole.

Domenico Buttez (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 5 August 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

Bollocks, I'll be at work and will miss the fireworks :( What time do they go on till? If I play on the train home I can still catch K.K, which is a plus.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Saturday, 5 August 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

Did everyone get the lawnchair from Nintendo? Is there no way to put things outdoors?? The fireworks go from 7 to midnight.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 5 August 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, midnight! In that case, my journey home is going to be great.

I've not switched on my DS today, so I don't know about the lawnchair, but re: putting stuff outside I've been collecting all the outside stuff I find like clotheslines and bonfires and saving them in my wardrobe until my house is big enough to justify having a garden room. I think this is the only way, bizarrely!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Saturday, 5 August 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

I put the lawn chair facing out the window in my bedroom :)

This morning it's a beetle invasion; I've caught 7 or 8 different kinds. Also, grasshoppers.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 5 August 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

OMG the firework festival was good! I kept some fireworks.

I didn't get a lawnchair :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Saturday, 5 August 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

I think maybe you had to go on-line to get the lawnchair, since it came in Nintendo mail :(

btw, we changed our connection technology yesterday to Clearwire and wow, it is so much better! Still an occasional drop, but much more stable. I'll have the gates open for awhile tonight and tomorrow.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 5 August 2006 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

I got the lawnchair but thought it was rubbish so I gave it to Bones.

Domenico Buttez (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 5 August 2006 23:19 (nineteen years ago)

OH NOES

Why do I keep forgetting I have this game? It's like too much responsiblity or something.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 6 August 2006 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

I just got the third room in my house! I had no idea it would get so big. Now there's a room for all my instruments to go!

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 6 August 2006 06:06 (nineteen years ago)

I had to cheat and timetravel to enjoy the fireworks! I feel really bad that I did, but I was sick on Friday/Satdee and kinda fell asleep early and forgot all about it :( So on Sunday I wound the clock back, and had fun for about 10 mins, saved me some sparklers and stuff, and while I was at it I took advantage of buying the Samurai suit from Nooks which I'd missed as well. No lawnchair tho, I always forget to go online (and when I do, no one is on! Maybe Ive set it up wrong somehow).

The added advantage (tho I wont cheat and do this again) is that my HRA rating got re-assessed twice that morning, after I'd added a load of things to my house previous to winding time back, and so I got a second HRA chance and I hit 70,000! YAY! Now I have a model of my own house =)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 6 August 2006 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

You need to use the phone to allow Nintendo to send you stuff, but different parts of the world get different stuff, the lawn chair might just be an American thing.

Nook was selling a cabana armchair today, which means I finally have a full set of something :D. If you don't count kiddie, which I completed a while ago but looks horrible. And I got my first black roses, which means golden roses in a few days.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, there was someone called Rover in the cafe today - who's this?

Rover used to be your seat mate on the train between towns in the GC version. He was a nice cat, if a bit chatty.

patita (patita), Monday, 7 August 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

He's the one who you talk to in tag/contact mode.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Monday, 7 August 2006 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

I got the cabana armchair but I need the cabana couch/chair! I think its the only thing left on the cabana set I'm after.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

A glitch? Thats weird. I've also read FAQs that say the Zelda triforce is a lie and doesnt exist. Well hello FAQperson, I have one. They do.

I too want all of the plushies. ALL OF THEMMMM.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 11 August 2006 00:19 (nineteen years ago)

I just sold last Sunday's red turnip - 4,000 bells

So far:

sold on Monday (1 day) = 100 bells
sold on Thursday (4 days) = 4,000
sold on Friday (5 days) = 8,000
sold on Saturday or later (6+ days) = 16,000

I have to know if Tuesday = 1,000 and Wednesday = 2,000

Oh, and I really need to get in sync with someone to visit. I gave a stranger playing Animal Crossing my card and told him to email me so we could have a coffee and visit towns. He'd just gotten the game but was already addicted.

patita (patita), Friday, 11 August 2006 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

I need to get in sync too Jaq, if only to complete my Cabana set! Plz 2 arrange a time - possible for 4 player :)

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Friday, 11 August 2006 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

I still have to get in sync with someone. I STILL haven't played on Wi-Fi with the ILG peeps!

Anyway, I have to sell a red turnip to Nook now!

Domenico Buttez (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 12 August 2006 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

Okay here's the deal - I'm traveling until 8/25 for work, but I appear to have connectivity in this hotel. I'll see how it hangs in there later tonight (check for open gates in an hour or so if you're around). I'm in Seattle, so Pacific time (it'll be 7:30 pm local when I post this). What time is good for people, either Sat or Sun, because I will need something to keep me occupied and out of trouble?

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 12 August 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

Not looking good anymore :( Connection keeps dropping :((((((

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 12 August 2006 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I have been ATTACKED by scorpions so many times now I am afraid to go out in the dark :( I hate them! More than the killer beez!

However, night is a very good time for catching fish - tonight netted an ocean sunfish and an arowana (10,000 bells!!!)

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 03:05 (nineteen years ago)

Hey marlins are around to be caughtnow, yeah? Still havent seen or caughtone yet :(

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 04:35 (nineteen years ago)

Aaarrrgghhh!

Domenico Buttez (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 05:10 (nineteen years ago)

Caught a Marlin the other day, so I guess they are in season.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 09:47 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
I have Animal Crossing! I want to visit some other towns. Poor Herzog is boring me right now.

Jeff. (Jeff), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! I guess I should bust it out. It's been like over a month though, hrm.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

Cripes I keep neglecting mine too :( I've missed a flea market and everything.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

I played it every day last week for the acorn/mush furniture stuff (I now have a lovely mush-room in my house). I've been neglecting it otherwise though, and my animals are leaving (don't they have friends other than me there?)

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

I'm done with that stupid acorn festival. I got to the point where everything was rotten, so eventually, I just started giving Cornimer rotten ones. I also sold all the mush furniture, I thought it was ugly.

Now I'm just fishing, bug hunting and looking for fossils. And paying off the new mortgage on my larger house.

Jeff. (Jeff), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

I'm afraid to start it up, it's been so long since I played :(

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 19 October 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

I had to weed my entire town after having it switched off for 6 weeks. The grass is a skanky brown colour now but I don't know if that's supposed to look Autumnal or if it's due to weeds and lack of TLC.

ONIMO's fish might turn into lizards (GerryNemo), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

It's because it's autumn

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Okay I feel less guilty now, though I still missed enough birthdays to piss off the entire neighbourhood.

ONIMO's fish might turn into lizards (GerryNemo), Thursday, 19 October 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

I got the whole Mush set and hate it, but the HRA loves me now.

But still, once I can get a full set of a decent design...that Mush crap is gooooooing!

The Real Esteban Buttez (EstieButtez1), Friday, 20 October 2006 04:28 (nineteen years ago)

FUCK I forgot about the acorn week ;_;

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 20 October 2006 04:42 (nineteen years ago)

But I have a whole set of music gear and a whole ... whats that cane furniture one? that one. My HRA points are at 100k+ at the moment (about 110k?)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 20 October 2006 04:43 (nineteen years ago)

I'm pretty much ignoring the HRA. I'm excited, there is a fishing tournament on Sunday! I'm stuck in carp carp carp carp carp land.

Jeff. (Jeff), Friday, 20 October 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

Does anyone want to swap friend codes?

Jeff. (Jeff), Friday, 20 October 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

My house has bugs flying everywhere! My kids are menko! I played last night and discovered my youngest son had sent me a gas mask and 100 bells. I think he's trying to make up for chopping all the trees down.

ONIMO's lips can't feel! (GerryNemo), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

E-mail me your code, Jeff, and I'll try to clean up my long-neglected town before you come over. (The e-mail below works.)

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 20 October 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

Fishing contest! I havent had one since I started playing AXing, must log on for that one :D

I too try and be online for y'all but the time difference seems to belay most hope of me welcoming anyone much (plus we had to unplug the DS wifi doohickey as we were having normalwifi problems).

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 21 October 2006 00:58 (nineteen years ago)

I can't wait for Fishing Tourney! ^__^

The Real Esteban Buttez (EstieButtez1), Saturday, 21 October 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

I can't find who I'm supposed to give the fish to???

Jeff. (Jeff), Sunday, 22 October 2006 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

Tortimer, the mayor. He should be standing outside the town hall once the tournament starts.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 22 October 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

There isn't any one there. Weird. I'll shut it off and pick it up later.

Jeff. (Jeff), Sunday, 22 October 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wait, it doesn't start till noon. DUMB.

Jeff. (Jeff), Sunday, 22 October 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Just hang on to your fish and give them to him one at a time after it starts.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 22 October 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

My 44 inch sea bass is winning. Now I keep catching seahorses though.

I also bought a monocle.

Jeff. (Jeff), Sunday, 22 October 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Fucking cat beeyotch pwned me 20 mins before end of the tourney! I was winning, and she bams me with the SAME FISH only 5 inches bigger! FUCKER.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 23 October 2006 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

I won my fishing tourney. And you just get a stupid trophy. I wonder how much I can sell it for. Now I'm just 30,000 bells from paying off my second mortgage.

How does the friend thing work? Do you have to be logged on, or can you just leave your gate open and anyone with your code can walk in?

Jeff. (Jeff), Monday, 23 October 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

The trophys arent stupid! If you put them in your house you get much more HRA points if that floats yr boat.

Basically the game is self-feeding in a way. You collect things and sell them and pay your mortgage - which if you think about it makes no sense, cos Nook gives you money and then you give it back to him, wtf? - and stuff like tourney wins and special prizes give you more HRA points, which lets you get more special prizes... and so on. Its like a giant Pokemon or something.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 23 October 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think you have to have your friend's code on your list as well? To make sure no one sneaks into your place. If that's what you mean by "logged on". You do have to be in town using your character for someone to visit you.

I still haven't gone back and visited.

Hey, Jeff, did you see K.K. yet?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

KK?

This visiting is logistically impossible.

Jeff. (Jeff), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 01:51 (nineteen years ago)

Saturday night, before midnight (but after I think 8 or 9?) go to the cafe in the basement of the museum. It's pretty much the best part of the game.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah KK rocks :) I love how there's little spotlights on him, and your character sits there and nods away to the choons. Its a pity the "bootleg" versions you get to then play on yr house's stereo arent the same.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 04:00 (nineteen years ago)

In other news my sea fishing has been a real fizz. I havent caught any sharks in AGES, and I am still yet to catch a marlin at all :( Are they even still in season?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 04:07 (nineteen years ago)

I think they are out of season now. Fishing money ain't too good :-(

The Real Esteban Buttez (EstieButtez1), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 06:34 (nineteen years ago)

Tom Nook's control over this town is starting to bother me. I just upgraded my house for the second time, and my mortgage went to a whopping 298,000 bells. I can pull in 6,000 bells from a fishing run, but that's a lot of fishing. What is the best way to aquire bells faster? Maybe I should play the turnip market.

Jeff. (Jeff), Saturday, 28 October 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

Fishing a few months ago was better, send one-line letters to neighbours to get foreign fruit, plant it, and get 500 bells per piece of fruit.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Saturday, 28 October 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, fruit harvesting was how I made my millions, but then the game started making fun of me for picking fruit all the time! That was a spooky moment.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 28 October 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

It did what?

The Real Esteban Buttez (EstieButtez1), Saturday, 28 October 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
I started this up after 4 months of not playing. THE WEEDS!!!! And the first thing I bought at Able Sisters: The King Tut Mask!

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 8 January 2007 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

I've been digging up tons of dingloids and leaving them lying about the place. I wanna see if they'll come to life and have at me, or something.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 8 January 2007 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

Ooo! Like a popping, clicking, spasmodic army :)

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 8 January 2007 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

I just remembered: it's Pierce's birthday - I'm giving him a shirt I got from the lost and found.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 8 January 2007 23:58 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, didn't I give you access to the King Tut mask?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

No, Martin picked it up I think, but I didn't. I was out ransacking all your fruit varieties :)

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

Yo Jaq, I started playing again a few weeks ago, and I also had to contend with 4 months of weeds. It took a few days to get rid of the bulk of them, and there are still stragglers here and there.

Anyone up for AC wifi action this evening?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

I started again the other week. I've just buried a shovel which will allegedly turn gold if I leave it buried for 24 hours. Then I'll be able to make money trees (unless my mate was ripping the piss out of me).

My museum's starting to look quite good, I've completed a few of the dino skeletons.

I persuaded Roald to stay :)

I don't like this Apollo character :(

onimo (onimo), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

Apollo! Fucking Apollo.
He was the one that had a special TWAT LIVES HERE doormat that I made for him. My advice: get rid, ASAP.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! A proper thread! Do I have to repost my frenz codes and so on? My DS is splat at the moment though and needs charging up so cannae get to it until later.

I heart Roald! He's one of my favourite residents. NICE ABS.

G-kit, g-kit - a cat came to my village who lost her kitten and said she could find her in Pwnage! But she's gone now after I connected to wi-fi again! I didn't do anything, just opened my gates so I could be lazy and cure Cesar of his cold instead of spending my hard earned Bell on his medicine.

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

Aye, I found the lost kitten. I haven't seen her for a week or so, though.

Also, I had a mysterious note in a bottle wash up on my beach from some kook named Starry, declaring her love for BRAN. Strange days!

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

I got another cat with a FREAKO face, saying it had been drawn by Nicole in 'Florida' - seriously people, is that the best name you can give your village?? My Animal Crossing was a secondhand copy, and when demolishing the old town (I AM A GOD!!!), I noted I was destroying Leeds...

onimo (onimo), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

Mine's Pulquedo. And I have many cockroaches in my house! Their little ghosts float away when you stomp them!

I run from Blanca the scaryface cat. She showed up once with a face that was a squirting penis. Oh the trauma of "gameplay may change when on-line"!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

My neighbours keep telling me how cool my youngest son & housemate is:

"Hey h-puff you know that Zapor9000 constellation? Well that's all down to your housemate wyp-up. He's a cool guy, you should take note!"

"You like my t-shirt? wyp-up gave it to me! You're lucky to have such a great housemate!"

I'm working my ass off paying mortgages off while he just fucks around sending everyone presents and currying favour. Oh, and he went and dug up my shovel before it turned gold :(

onimo (onimo), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

Is this the same one that chopped down all your trees?

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yes!

Gracie called me frumpy and gave me a moldy (MOULDY) shirt!! Bitch.

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

I finally started playing this! I'm not quite seeing the point though, yet. I'm sure all the online stuff must be where the fun is. Who wants to let me come and visit them?

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 27 January 2007 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

I have yet to do the online thing, It seems like such a pain in the ass to exchange friend codes, open your gates and be on at the same time. I need someone to buy something from the store in my town so I can get the upgrade though!

Jeff. (Jeff), Saturday, 27 January 2007 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

we need an ILG repository of friend codes

kingfish moose tracks (kingfish 2.0), Saturday, 27 January 2007 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

The online play is basically identical to offline, only with the added thrill of the connection potentially dropping out at any minute! Still, we saw our new year in with it.

I wish I had more friends who played AC, and knew which item group they were in, so I could go over there and finish off the sets I'm collecting. Something makes me really want to put this game down, but I can't just yet.

HA HA or the girl in California Games!

My friends code is up thread somewhere, peeps feel free to add innit.

"Fucking cow" has too many letters for a nickname doesn't it? Even if it doesn't, when would an animal spontaneously say that a nickname was harsh? It might have been on Yay Day, which means she would have typed it in right then instead of the phrase being spread online.

V, Saturday, 12 May 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, quick question -

I'm asking my gf to buy me this for my birthday next week, but does it have multiple save files? That is, can you create two different towns, so we don't have to share towns? I'm greedy and I don't want her fucking my utopian village up.
