Re: Strahan, I don't think his contract is up for another couple years (would have to check) but I think they're hedging their bets NOW to make sure new dudes are up to snuff. No reason not to focus on that part of the team when you've got a pretty young offense*, as long as they can force Plaxico and Shockey to play nicely together.

* though they might also want to start thinking about the Tiki factor at some point, though he's another one showing no signs of slowing with age.

If your backup is on a bye, I don't think you should bench Shockey, but definitely bench him in the future. Dude is a retard who can't even figure out how to get out of bounds half the time and I feel almost like he is being phased out in favor of increasing the relationship between the qb and the younger players (plus because they have Tiki doing mad shit so they don't need to throw the ball to Captain America, ever). It's just a sense I get, I know the announcers claim Shockey is "loved by the fans" but I don't know a single Giants fan who will vouch for that statement, we all want him traded and I have this little thought in my head that it will be happening sooner rather than later.

coughlin's dumb because his players are constantly unprepared and his gameplans never seem to work. when a coach can tell you that a team's gonna do something, and they do it, and this happens week after week, the players will believe that he knows wtf he's doing. dudes will tolerate his doucheness if they buy into him as a coach, but if he treats them like kids and acts like a dick all the time AND it doesn't net any results, then he's lost the team. imo. i know it isn't entirely on him, there's obviously a lot of douchebag players on that team and the bad gameplanning could be on some of the assistants/coordinators for all i know, but overall the guy just seems wildly incompetent.

NFL Network had a cool history of the Giants film on last week that ran up to the mid 80s right after they won their first Superbowl. It was really cool. The elder Mara bought the club for $500 bucks.

It got me going on checking out some stuff at the Pro Football Reference site and thinking about old-time football. The most mind boggling thing is looking up the Bears franchise and seeing Halas as the coach from literally the 20s to the 60s. Halas coached from Red Grange to Mike Ditka. That is just mind boggling. Curley Lambeau also coached for decades.
