I've come round to Big Brovaz, probably one of the most important groups in Britain today, a 4-real so solid crew.

Hi! We've got another racist on Ask A Drunk. I don't want him banned or anything, fun with racists is one of AAD's favourite games as you can see from the thread.

If you could, email me the guys IP.

Here's the thread
SHIT

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 18 May 2003 20:52 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hey there - I don't ever ask for any moderations, but in this case, some dick posted into the Sex - Blood - Etiquette thread with this godawful revolting and graphically sick troll post. I know it isn't nasty to anyone on the board but it really is unpleasant.

If people don't feel it warrants removal thats ok, it just makes me squeamish having to read crap like that (and thats compared to the rest of that thread! heh).

Hello Moderator(s)

Can you delete my ILM "chips and Gravy C/D thread.

I wasn't paying attention and posted it in the wrong place (evidently)

Cheers.

Um yeah I was going to say that too, or something like it. As far as Mr Noodles' comment goes.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 22 May 2003 12:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hi, I just started a thread on ILM entitled "Sasha Frere-Jones and Gerald Marzorati discuss 'Hail to the Thief'" -- which I just discovered is practically identical to one that James Blount started yesterday. Is it worth it to delete or lock mine?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

we can lock and link it to the other if your worried about dividing the conversation till both die off. A link to Blounts would be great help.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

thanks, noodles.

Side note, we need to update the FAQ on ILM/ILE so it points to this thread or whatever active thread we are using for requests.

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 5 June 2003 11:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

have they all been done now? Can't find any more. If porn images causing probs use the "hide images" option in your settings -- this makes it easier to mod thread with images in generally

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 5 June 2003 12:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

cool (yes i think they're all sorted for the moment)

As I think one or two people on this board are aware, visiting a link on this thread: Song Poems: RFI turned out to be a disaster for my computer, which was imediately infected by a Backdoor.Apdoor.bIŽm trojan horse (jfhwlsg.exe) and a series of glossalalia trogan proxies (bdyubdh.exe, joaspoi.exe, kmavwic.exe, krvwfgc.exe, lqsgzhl.exe, pwprvrc.exe, rkddqcm.exe, zdcaedn.exe, and zhbxgrn.exe). The immediate effect was inclement irksome pop-up's and other weird things, which lead to me to suspect the content of my computer was being accessed. It took weeks of inevistigation to locate and eventually delete the offending files (and there's still a startup programme hidden on my computer (impotant now, though, I hope)). According to Boclean, who gave me substantial help: 'It's now possible for a "rogue" website to actually embed trojans, worms and/or viruses directly into a web page. In the past, pages that offer seemingly attractive downloads which contain such malware required you to click to start any download to your computer. BUT Now it's become automatic, using features in the Windows operating system known as scripting. These scripts can load programs without you knowing, and then they run immediately. All you have to do is visit the site, without doing anything besides viewing the page'.

The American Song Archives is one such rogue site, so I propose the post where it is linked to should be deleted to save an unsuspecting user of this board time, expense, anxiety in the future. Can you let me know if and when the post is deleted, 'cos I daren't even visit the thread to check (I know this is silly, but if you'd been through what I have!).

For the record, and to illustarte the sheer pernicuousness of that particular trojan, this is the response I got from BoClean, after sending them a copy of the file and the startup log:

'TRULY nasty indeed. The VIRUS which starts the proxy is that jfhwlsg.exe file in question and it's a cutie. What it's DOING is hiding inside Norton's code space AND inside the EXPLORER.EXE program as well. Fortunately, you can stop this nonsense but it takes a little trick.

First step, OPEN an MS-DOS (console) session. LEAVE IT OPEN ...

Now bring up the task manager and STOP EXPLORER.EXE ...

The traybar will vanish (this is why you have the MSDOS session open) ...
this is what you WANT to happen here.

Now go to the MSDOS window, type in EXPLORER and hit return.

This will bring BACK the traybar. Some icons may be missing, but the
programs that were running there will STILL be running, Microsoft doesn't
do a very good "restart" notify and that works in our favor here.

You SHOULD be able to go and delete that file now. Reboot, then clear out
the rest of the trash and unless it's being fed from another program
somewhere (should have been detected by AV) then it should be gone for good
now'.

This worked - the virus left the building (I hope so and verily).

'It's now possible for a "rogue" website to actually embed trojans, worms and/or viruses directly into a web page.

Assuming you use a bug-ridden browser like Internet Explorer, and/or have stupidly low security settings.

Tip for everyone: never ever use IE or Outlook Express. Your computer will be much safer.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 5 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

theres another 16063 addresses on 'Everyone's Internet' though, with it being an ISP, they'll might have a different one on that range next time?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 5 June 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

could you explain a bit more for me -- I'm hard of understanding and I don't have much time to do all this while I'm working. What is "Everyone's Internet"? is the poster on a range 64.246.x.x ? (Also, I'll need to see all the posts details before they're deleted to do anything more than ban a single IP address)

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 5 June 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Everyone's Internet" is an ISP that has a lot of addreses in the 64.246.x.x range.

(I happen to know this, cos the company I work for uses them for hosting; therefore we have servers in that address range)
